  1. Dave says:

Boy our offense looks awesome and scary with Paul batting 6th. Why isn’t Hurdle using Doumit in RF and Wood at 3b or SS? You’ve got essentially 1 month of baseball left Clint see what Wood can do as a regular. We already know Ronny stinks and isn’t going to get any better.

With Doumit being one of the best bats on the team why he isn’t starting somewhere every game blows my mind.

  2. JAL says:

Would be nice if they hit the more more than last night. 16 K and 5 hits last night, how about 16 hits and 5 K tonight

  3. JAL says:

Maybe he saw enough last night when Wood struck out 4 times in 4 at bats

  4. I’m sorry Ta—ba—ta is not playing tonight.
I’d like to see Presley, McCutch, and Ta-ba-ta, with Walker, Jones, and Doumit play as much as they can together . . . . to see what we have there for next year.

Play around with SS and 3B however you want, but put the other 6 out there consistently, with The Fort spelling Doumit 1 out of 3 games. These games are not just Spring Training games. If Garrett Jones can put a good September on top of his August, that tells us a whole lot.

I also like Presley batting leadoff, with Ta-ba-ta batting 2nd, going to right field.

Presley, Tabata, McCutch, Walker, Jones, Doumit, 3B, SS, P. Consistent batting order and lineup. Let ‘er rip!! Let’s see what we’ve got!

  5. Dave,
I do not get the call for Doumit to play right field. He can’t play it. His play there two years ago makes “stand still and hope it comes to me” Matt Diaz look like a Gold Glover.
Ryan Doumit’s value as a hitter is in the catching spot. No where else.

  6. Keith says:

I don’t get the call for Wood playing tonight. He struck out, like, 19 times in four at-bats yesterday.

  7. Steve Smith says:

@Groat, Tabata, I think got hit in the hand the other night and had it wrapped yesterday, so there may be the possibility that it hurts too much and Clint is just giving it some time to heal by giving him the night off. Just my opinion. Also, I agree about Doumit in Right, the only thing he has going for him there is a good arm, but sometimes it is not accurate as we see constantly from behind the plate.

  8. Bizrow says:

So are we going to lose 90+ this season?

  9. Bizrow says:

Sorry, but its disappointing to see us do another nose dive this season.

I was drinking kool aid earlier this year and was loving it.

There are a ton of questions still with this club.

Are we better off now than we were four years ago?

The check is in the mail, trust me.

I’m not so sure, we burned out several of our starters, now the bull pen is getting toasted.

    I’m just sayin

  10. JAL says:

Tabata hurt his wrist last Wednesday and it has been increasingly been bothering him. The injuries continue.

  11. JAL says:

Pirates Prospects Are We There Series has done a nice job comparing the 2007 minor league teams with the 2011 teams. 3 of 4 parts have been in the morning links over the past couple of weeks.

  12. Jim says:

Seriously, Have they cut Cedeno and Diaz yet? This just gets more and more ridiculous day after day. I suggest they go to the plate an dlook at the first pitch the whole night. We may just get a run or two that way. I am sorry to be a negative Nelly, but I just don’t see our offense doing anything, EVER!! Our pitching has been better than expected (thank GOD) and now that they are faltering, we are seeing the losses pile up. The middle relief is bad as of the last 2-30 games, and the starters are never able to make it to the 7th inning? Why not go with a 6 man rotation the rest of the year and give Karstens and crew an extra night off and see what Lincoln and others can do the rest of September.

  13. Bizrow says:

Thanks, JAL, but the proof to me has to be the ML club, I’m getting too old and too tired of promises

Prospects is a good site, the owner speaks intelligently on the FAN on Saturday mornings

  14. JAL says:

The proof is always in the ML club but if you have better players in the minors the odds are you will have more do well in the majors.

  15. JAL,
Thanks for the heads-up on the Wilber Miller articles on Pirates Prospects.

Whether I agree or not, interesting reads all.

Hey Justice Action League: you’re a good man! (what my farmer boss told me when I was a kid and did my jobs right. I heard it too infrequently!)

I will sleep a lot better if Bucs win tonight. Last night was a tosser-and-turner.

  16. JAL says:

    Thank you

They are interesting reads. Surprised me how few players from just 4 years ago are still in the system.

  17. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    8 K for Morton

  18. Steve Smith says:

Good night folks. That be all she wrote, yet again. 2 hits and 7 K’s by this offense doesn’t bode well for a comeback against the bullpen. Man this is getting old.

  19. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Could this BULLpen be any more appropriately named?

  20. Cheez!!
It seemed like we were throwing batting practice!

It’s gonna be another tosser-and-turner night!

  21. Naje says:

Will anyone on this team show that they give one bit of damn about how pathetic they look?

  22. hsages211 says:

Been without power since Saturday so I haven’t been able to watch the past few games, but I think I can definitively say “We are who we thought we were”

  23. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Two hits vrs the 29th ranked pitching staff in the majors. Says it all.

  24. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Now they are toying with us by putting Myers in.

  25. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

… and AGAIN double-digit strikeouts for the Bucs’ hitters…

  26. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

So here’s that hopeless feeling again, like during the losing streak. Brutal.

  27. Dejan Kovacevic says:

No question, the Pirates look absolutely flat right now.

  28. pghboyinca says:

This team sucks because the organization sucks, “it is all coming together now boys” as Lou the Indians manager would say in the movie “Major league.”

Where are the peopel who 40 days ago were trumpeting “the plan”. If that was part of it then so is this. And I htink when the season isover the body of work will speak for itself. 4 years in and still atotal and complete embarrassment. Cubs, Padres, and Astros just pimp slapping us and no response to be found. Raise the Jolly Roger!!!!!!!!!!!!!
