  1. The one guy that has been raking the last two games at least – Alex Presley is not in the lineup tonight? Hopefully Paul carries on for him. Come on Buccos lets win this thing and keep the Brewers down a tiny bit! Thanks for all the reporting DK. Great stuff as always!

  2. Any reason or explanation for Presley being out of the lineup? Surely this is not a gesture of kindness to a guy like XPaul who won’t be with the team next season, right?

  3. Really quite amazing that no beat writer in all of pittsburgh has an answer for this… or a tweet for this… or something for this very odd situation.

  4. Just saw the tweet from RB… and that is the only source for Presley’s (sore back)…

DK: There’s an hour time difference, and updates like the one you were seeking usually have to wait until the manager’s session. I’m sure that information was passed along to you as soon as it was given out.

  5. Dejan, what are the plans for off season coverage of the club?

I must say I do enjoy the fact you cover most every thing regarding Burgh sports

DK: Thanks, Biz. As you can guess, I no longer have an offseason. Not much will change for me at all, outside of filling out my baseball scorebook every day.

  6. Naje – do you think we should wrap current players with bubble wrap? They seem to get dinged up constantly anymore

  7. How bout the “cone of silence”, Biz? I mean, really, how in the heck does this continue to happen? Another soft bed to blame? Doubtful, as Presley plays pretty hard he may have dinged it last night. Or the pressure of hitting .300 on the final game of the season v. Zach Greinke got to his sub-conscious and psyched him into a sore back.

Bubble wrap… this team needs truckloads of that stuff.

  8. @Naje

Not the “cone of silence”. Second time I fell for that one this week.

  9. I’m a longtime lurker on other site, now this one… just wanted to say I really enjoyed the best Pirate season in a long while (well, at least part of it was fine!). Great job as usual, DK, and many thanks…
Also, thought I should check in with Bizrow… really nice feature! Indiana: South Bend (Irish)

  10. Curious, why is Paul Maholm not with the Pirates… there has to be something to this for him to be away from the team for this long.

  11. Worst day of the year.

  12. Sec143 – It should be a great day of the year, if and when we finally have a playoff winner in Pittsburgh again.

  13. Alex Presley can hit .300 with a pinch hit. Even 1 for 2 gets him .2995. Maybe he’s got one swing in him. He could even pull a Reyes & drop down a bunt.

  14. Only 138 days (give or take) until pitchers and catchers report. Can’t wait ’til next year. Let’s Go Bucs.

  15. Best wishes to all the fellow Pirates fans here on the blog… see ya next year!

I’ll still be around for Penguins games…

I’m moving back to Pittsburgh by the first of December (likely NW of the city).

Gotta get ready for work… Go Bucs!

  16. Last game of the year and Pirates have Jeff Locke pitching, doesn’t that tell us all we need to know about the state of the pitching staff for 2012?

In 2012, Pirates need Taillon, Allie, Heredia, and Cole to really dominate their competition and move up quickly.

  17. Can we STOP giving up homeruns, PLEASE!!!

  18. Brewers will just continue to beat up on the Pirates if our pitchers refuse to pitch inside.

    Grow a set already.

  19. @Steve

    Yes. Tomorrow.

  20. Very true @Milo, but I really want that next win. Doesn’t mean much, but you got to start somewhere.

  21. More walks that hurt with two out. See you in AA next year Locke.

  22. Every SINGLE run scored over the last two games for these yahoos have come from homeruns. The Bucs have one over the last three games, and he is not starting tonight.

  23. Nice touch by Root Sports to show batting practice on the last day of the season.

  24. My sentiments exactly, @Milo! It’s been that way the last three games.

  25. Cedeno mentioned that he needed to do more this winter in the Dominican on driving in runs. He actually needs to learn how to not swing at balls WAY out of the strike zone and actually hit the ball first.

  26. It doesn’t help that Grenke is getting some calls by the ump. The ump has a hot date or something.

  27. At least we kept Braun from getting the batting title.

  28. So long Bucs fans! Can’t watch any more of this game. Maybe something goofy will happen once I tune out and the Bucs score more than 5 runs to come back. Chat with you next year. Hopefully that will be the year we have another 15 game improvement, and finally break this horrible streak. @DK, I’ll be keeping in touch with your work over the fall and winter with the Steelers, Pens, and Pitt. Have a great one!

  29. Poetic Justice = The Braves losing a long extra inning game on a bad call and being eliminated from the post season.

  30. Goodnight Mary Edgerly wherever you are.

  31. Buh-bye Boston…..Go Rays!!!

  32. Pedro Alvarez is clueless. He never made any legitimate adjustment all year. His swing sucks, and until he changes that, he will never hit big-league pitching. Anyone who thinks he just has to “get his head cleared” or get in better shape is as clueless as he is. It’s all about the mechanics of his swing and his hitting approach.
