On location: Capitals 3, Penguins 2, OT

Looking ahead to faceoff …

Game: Penguins (3-0-1) vs. Washington Capitals (2-0)

Time: 7:08 p.m.

Site: Consol Energy Center

TV, radio: Root Sports, NHL Network, 105.9 The X.

Here is the official live summary.

News updates are on our Penguins page, including Sidney Crosby being cleared for contact and Chris Kunitz signing an extension. Rob Rossi is covering the game.

  1. DK, it seems on the forecheck so far this year that the Pens are not looking for the big hit as much and are more focused on the puck. So far it seems that it is helping the puck possession time. Am I looking for something that isn’t there, or are you seeing some of the same things?

Also, anyone who didn’t think that Malkin being out wouldn’t hurt the PP didn’t see the first PP in the game. That was about as good as you can be without scoring a goal.

  2. Pens missed the net about 20 times already in this game, that has to get better.

  3. Glad to see the power play is back to normal. Feh.

  4. @Milo – Thought the same thing after that one.

Need to get bodies in front and actually hit the net on the shots. Too many shot attempted missed wide/high or blocked.

  5. Gotta admit, I’m quite surprised to see Mark Letestu as the healthy scratch considering the coach’s pet tag that I and others have placed upon him. He’s been a virtual non-existent entity over the first four games of the season and that can’t be acceptable for a guy getting ice time on the top line in Edmonton and at home against Florida or little sandpaper on the third line with Cooke and Dupuis in Vancouver and Calgary.

Once Crosby returns, you’ve got Sid, Geno, Staal, Vitale, and Park above him on the depth chart at center and Jeffrey working his way back as well. I can’t see the Penguins keeping Letestu and after today’s news of resigning Chris Kunitz to a 2-year extension, don’t see much room for Eric Tangradi as well.

  6. Of course, Ovechkin scores his first goal of season to give Washington 2-1 lead early in 3rd period.

  7. Capitals beating the Penguins ticks me off more than the Pirates-Brewers

  8. If they really wanted to reduce concussions, they could just get rid of that. That being said, you might as well win them if they are allowed.

  9. @Milo – I’m done with the fighting, I want it out of the game.

  10. Had the refs made the call on Beagle, there wouldn’t have been a fight.

That said…if you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.

AA’s gesture was rude, I agree. He apologized for it. Nuff said.
