  1. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Let’s Go Pens! Losing streak ends tonight in fine fashion…

  2. Eric Bowser says:

So… 6-game losing streak – quick let’s shift 100% focus to an obviously concussed Crosby. This isn’t to criticize the obvious story reported by Dejan about a player meeting on filling the role of captaincy on a temporary basis but the overreaction by some fans and media about this whole Crosby thing is beyond absurd.

The Penguins and Crosby along with his father, his agent, and his teammates should have handled this latest concussion better than they have. Just be open and honest, answer the questions and wait.

Instead we had six weeks of innuendo and half answers, was that the Penguins trying to sell hope for the fans and players or was it refusing to answer questions because they don’t want to admit what everyone fears, Crosby’s struggling again and they have no answers.

Lame. I’m sick of the attention this concussion has received when I root for the team of this city, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Going forward, everyone needs to relax and wait for his return, answers have been given and now it is time for the coaches and players to do their job. No more whining behind closed doors, no more gossip off the record to a report, and no more selfish play on the ice.

It is time for Fleury, Malkin, and Orpik to step up and lead this team. It is time for Dupuis, Kunitz, and Cooke to skate hard and finish their checks.

It is time for Martin and Michalek to provide leadership and much needed presence on the defense to get the penalty-killing unit back to the top of the league.

Time for the coaches to admit some of their decisions have failed – looking at you Bylsma —> like the power play. Mike Yeo isn’t around to blame, even if they are jokes.

Win the first shift, then the next and so forth.

  3. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

04:39 Asham, Barch 5 min each for fighting

  4. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

05:40 Dupuis 2 min for Tripping

  5. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    Cooke misses on shorthanded breakaway

  6. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Cooke kind of gave away his shot direction by lifting his skate just before shooting but show was wide anyways…

  7. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

10:13 Pens lead in shots on goal, 10-3

  8. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Eric- So much of the Penguins’ game ebb-and-flow hinges on Jordan Staal and his absence has created a gaping hole both ways.

  9. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

11:33 Neal tripped. Pens on PP

  10. JohninOshkosh says:

I am working tonight with no access to satellite radio. Thanks for the live blogging. Along with DK’s tweets, I can really follow the action.

  11. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Neal bangs on off the post about a foot high. Still scoreless.

Then hits the other post… seconds later.

  12. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    Malkin rings the left post.

  13. Eric Bowser says:

@Dave – Exactly, what I’ve been thinking in this game. They miss his leadership on and off the ice. They miss his work ethic defensively and yes, they miss his goal scoring, even if he’s not exactly a high scoring forward.

  14. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    13:39 Versteeg 2 min Slashing

  15. Eric Bowser says:

games like this, I’ve seen too many times where a let down happens and Fleury gives up a weak goal. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

  16. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

16:51 Shots on Goal: Pens 15, Panthers 4

  17. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Kunitz hits the post on a breakaway. Unbelievable.

  18. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    It was crossbar.

  19. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Ends of 1, no score. Pens two power plays, 4 hit-posts.

  20. Dejan Kovacevic says:

Bizarre period. But if they keep playing like that, they’re not only win this game but also make the playoffs. This roster is plenty good enough.

  21. Eric Bowser says:

probably their best period of skating and solid forechecking that I’ve seen in a long while, though I admittedly haven’t seen the games this week.

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

If the Pens score, promise me you will pay tribute to the Florida radio guy-can’t recall his name-and use a line from a movie.

  23. scapper says:

I thought it was a good period, then I thought, “Yeah, but it’s Florida.” Then I remembered that Florida is actually decent this year, so…GOOD PERIOD!

  24. Eric Bowser says:

looking at Sid’s face, he’s gained some weight in his face – hmmm, that’s a bit concerning.

  25. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Pens definitely shaking the funk. Good things will happen very soon.

  26. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Sullivan scores off a steal by Matt Cooke

    1-0 Pens!

  27. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

@nd 04:47 Tangradi, Gudbranson 5 min each for Fighting

  28. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Orpik breaks a stick. Kunitz gives his up as Florida pressures

  29. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

07:43 Florida pressing hard; great opportunity thwarted by a high stick on the puck for a face-off and TV break.

  30. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

09:12 Richard park gets tripped. Pens on PP

  31. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Fleury shines with 3 big saves around 3:30 left in period

  32. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Another big save for Fleury 1:20 remaining in 2nd

  33. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

What a goal by Malkin! Two on one, Malkin and Kunitz, Malkin shoots and puck blocked to left of net by goaltender. Malkin grabs it and wheels toward the goaltender from the corner and it goes in for a 2-0 Pens lead!

  34. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    Malkin goal @ 19:25 Unassisted.

    2-0 Pens after 2

  35. Eric Bowser says:

Did not like the slapper attempt but I’ll take the goal, lol. 2-0 Pens

    ripped Sullivan tonight – goal

    ripped Kennedy tonight – goal

    3-0 Pens

  36. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

01:39 Repik 2 minutes for interference on Michalek. Pens on PP

  38. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

06:55 Repik deflects a Garrison shot from the point for a goal.

Neal had been out late forechecking and changed behind the play.

  39. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

When Kunitz got on the ice and caught up the play was already developing.

  40. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    * Capitals win to stay ahead one point ahead of Pens at 8th place in conference standings.

  41. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

** IF the Pens win tonight.

Did today’s column restart the Pens?
Appreciate the blog updates as I can’t watch the game tonight.

  43. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Great pressure by Panthers at 13:00 mark. Pens holding on.

  44. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

    *** Correction ***

Caps have 48 points. Pens can tie them, but Caps have tiebreaker.

  45. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

15:53 Neal with a wrister from the half boards. 4-1 Pens

  46. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Kunitz with an assist @ 15:43

  47. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

No extra attacker late for the Panthers. Florida raises the white flag.

    Pens win 4-1!

    Losing streak is over.

    Malkin, Fleury: stellar performances.

Solid, solid effort from the entire team tonight.

  48. Eric Bowser says:

    back to fundamental hockey.

Skate hard, aggressive puck pursuit, finish checks, good passes, plenty of shots on goal, good goaltending, solid defensive effort.

  49. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

The Trib’s AP article on the signing of Resop states that:

‘The Pirates finished 18th in the National League with a team 4.04 ERA.’

Interesting, since there are 16 teams in the NL.

In all honesty, though, sometimes it does seem that way…

  50. JAL says:

    Dave G

They actually finished tied with the Tigers for 17th in MLB
