Had SO much fun in a Tampa Bay sports bar today watching the game. Fleury looked amazing, and everyone in the pub, Lightning fans, was cashing in their chips for the season.
How bout the Lightning starting a fight which stopped play, JUST as St. Louis had a breakaway going?

I may be “local” but am NOT a lightning fan. So this was a ball.
Interesting tidbit from the boxscore: every Tampa player was at least a -1 today. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that before.
If this team can shore up its defense, and maybe these new pairings will help, they stand a good chance of going far this spring. And if Sid comes back and is able to stay healthy? They have the talent, and they have the players that desire to kill off penalties. And MAF today had the luck of a goalie who is on his game.

Love Jordan Staal. Just so damn good. Often, you have to watch him without the puck and you see his positioning or his stick control and now that he looks supremely confident offensively, man this kid is just so great. I’ve been tough on Martin pretty much since he came to the team last year. Not to beat a dead horse, but I played defense for 18 years and once again, I am no Martin on his worst day in bed, but playing defense for me was and is about being physical, ala Orpik or Engellend (love them both). Never a fan of the Paul Coffey’s, (that’s shinny(sic.) That being said, obviously, others more skilled than I deem him a talented defenseman. So the idea that his game has deteriorated at the age of 30 is not likely. Same guy, same tools, looks healthy. What’s my point? My point is that confidence is everything in this world. Once you lose confidence, or question yourself or think too much or whatever, you cannot react to things unconsciously in the moment, you start to think too much, worry too much and lose the flow and ease in which you were accustomed to doing your job or going through life. Maybe that’s where Martin is, in his head and those things can be fixed. One simple victory, one step at a time. Maybe.
Hey Tim…your Staal comments…EXACTLY!!! All you have to do is watch his entire shift to see just how invaluable he is and why every NHL general manager covets him. The increased scoring is just a sweet bonus. Staal = Hockey Stud.
