Comments

  1. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Playoff preview?? I hate the flyers. Go Pens.

Firsties…(this game would’ve already been played if it were in my time zone…….or continent)

Headed home today. Can’t wait to get home.

  2. cosmo says:

Is Doc staying for the Pirates opener?

  3. RobertoForever says:

@cosmo – He might – the Pens and Flyers play again in Pittsburgh next Saturday.

But I am guessing no. NBC Sports is starting the daily doubleheaders leading up to the playoffs. My guess is he will be pretty busy this week.

  4. RobertoForever says:

    Interesting end to the game.

While the Flyers clearly outplayed the Pens in the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd period.

The end of the game only resulted because the officials did not give Schenn a penalty after his unprovoked cross-check on Crosby. Even if they wiped out the 2 min cross-check because of the goal on review, they could have given him a misconduct.

In most sports, that type of away from the play, cheap shot, while people are standing around would result in ejections and probably a suspension. Strangely enough, the announcing crew PRAISED Schenn, with Pierre McGuire saying that it was “showing character” that he was standing up to everyone, no matter who it is. Eddie Olczyk then chimed in saying that you “have to pick your spots” but that it was good to see that type of intensity from him. Doc did not chime it.

I would bet if it was Cooke who did it, it would have been a misconduct and a suspension. Schenn deserves a 1 game suspension.

It was also telling that Flyers coach took a stick and broke it over the wall, causing the blade to break off and go flying into the air. Nothing was said about that on the broadcast, even though I am sure it happened right in front of Pierre. Peter could have easily injured a fan, other coaches, players, even the linesmen. Should be a suspension as well. But I am sure the NHL is just happy to have the “intrigue” and “intensity” leading up to the playoffs.

  5. Karen22 says:

Hmmmm…not much liking how the Pens are limping into the playoffs despite being mostly healthy finally. They looked great in the first period…then awful…so many goals of late scored due to turnovers and inability to clear the puck from our zone. Disappointing, to say the least.

  6. likeabugonarug says:

This is 2 in a row against the flygirls where the Pens have started off great and then let philly take control. Work won’t be fun tomorrow. Pens are getting thrown off their game when they go up against this team. And Lavy needs to just sit down and shut up. That was a great check by Vitale, clean and hard. His players started the ruckus. Next Saturday should be interesting, especially if it means home ice in the series.

Schenn’s penalty gets wiped out because the rest of the play never happened. No misconduct deserved. My guess is he knew he had a free shot. But, Sid has no right to complain after the slashes he got away with during the game.

This frustration level doesn’t bode well for the series coming up.

  7. Jandy says:

Bug, Sid slashed because Philly was taking cheap shots most of the game. it does get tiring.
But yeah, the Pens need to focus on hockey, and not take dumb penalties and turn the puck over.
    Flygirls? How original ;)
