  1. Karen22 says:

Tabata! Barmes!! YOU’RE KILLING ME, SMALLS!!!

  2. Bizrow says:

How did they add Fryer to the 40 man?

  3. radio wave says:

I must have missed news earlier. What was the extent of Barajas’ injury last night? DL?

  4. Waving at the Radio,

He took a foul tip off the knee cap in the top of the 2nd and left the game when it came time for him to bat. No Disabled List: just day-to-day.

  5. RobertoForever says:

Looks like a pretty good lineup for tonight, considering Barajas is injured.

The Bucs beat Worley with these guys before. I think they can beat him again.

On opening weekend Sunday, this was the same lineup except McGehee is in and Presley is out.

  7. Milo Hamilton says:

    @Roberto

They didn’t beat Worley. He gave up 1 run in 6 innings & struckout 5. They beat the bullpen.

  8. Lawnbeaver says:

    @playoffs

I’ll take 100 on the OVER. I’d double down if it was allowed.

  9. jaxbuc says:

Playoffs: Please place 30 units on the over for tonight.

  10. Playoffs by 2012 says:

@Lawnbeaver, welcome back, the window is happy to be able to write that name down again, you got it and good luck!!

@jaxbuc, you got it and good luck!!

  11. JD says:

Playoffs – 50 on the over please.

    Go Bucs!

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Playoffs:

    75/Under, if you please.

  13. radio wave says:

    At playoffs:
Got to go better for them tonight.
Give me 70 on the under.

  14. JohninOshkosh says:

46 people so far wagering fake units. Pretty impressive.

  15. jeffsbar says:

    Playoffs-

I’ll take 100 on the under.

    Thanks.

  16. OZ says:

    50 on the under please

  17. SlackBoss says:

    @Playoffs – 75 on the over

  18. JRay3 says:

@ Playoffs – Your timing of this line is hysterical, your sense of humor shines through. OK but time to get serious, as it was pointed out to me yesterday I have competitors right on my heels.

So let’s dive into the numbers shall we. Firstly, I am going to not factor in any errors because if either of these two make one tonight a riot will erupt in here. Barmes should for all intents and purposes have two in his last two games so I have to believe he can field the position as many claim in this forum. Tabata fingers crossed he goes all out one of these days.

Tonight the Bucs face Vance Worley. In his last start versus the Pirates he pitched six innings and struck out five. On the year Worley has pitched 68 innings with 61 K’s. In 10 of his 11 starts he has pitched six innings six times and seven innings four times. He is a safe bet to go six inning tonight with 5-6 K’s.

Barmes has 50 K’s in 205 AB’s. His K rate is 24.3%. He has not had a K in his last two games (but has hit into multiple double plays- boy I like this guy). He averages .77 K per game. Tabata has 39 K’s in 230 AB’s. His K rate is 16.9%. He has struck out once in each of his past three games. He averages .59 K per game.

So the numbers sense a slight edge and I will forgo getting trapped into an emotional play and side with the numbers and take 60 on the UNDER.

If either makes an error than this becomes a debacle.

    Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs!

  19. JUCOFan says:

$75 on the under. I need to get to the good side of the .500 mark.

  20. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @Playoffs

Tough one…..I’ll take 100 on the UNDER

Gonna getcha JRay, I took a 2 week vacation and lost my lead.

  21. bman says:

    @playoffs

I’ll take 50 on the UNDER

  22. cosmo says:

    @ Playoffs

Let me have 70 on the over.

    thanks

  23. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – I’m keeping tabs on you…but just remember I have not peaked just yet, pacing myself through the dog days of summer!

Also, fyi on earlier blog I meant the Red Sox Cody Ross as some national outlets say he could be made available due to Ellsbury and Crawford soon to return. So I amend and say the Bucs could use a Ross or Willingham type bat to infuse into the lineup.

  24. Kevin says:

    Playoffs –

100 on the over please. And thanks, again.

  25. pattonbb says:

Playoffs – I’ll be surprised if the Pirates don’t play a very sound game tonight. I don’t see either Barmes or Tabata having a multiple K game either.

How about 75 on the UNDER.

    Thanks.

  26. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    J

You better…I sure as hell don’t take the statisical analysis approach that you do……though that is a pretty good giveaway to your job….at least I hope you have experience instead of doing that for fun…I hate it.

I figured it was that Ross…I wanted the Bucs to pick him up when the Marlins DFA’d him in 2010. Great spark he brings to a team. I watched the entire streatch run in ’10.

  27. MarkV says:

    @Playoffs

I’ll take 30 on the UNDER. Thanks.

  28. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – Not my job in the least,….in a former life worked in minor league sports now actually a Regional Sales Manager covering the SW in marketing/advertising related work.

I do enjoy numbers especially as they relate to baseball and figured I would give my best attempt at “capping” these over/under lines that @ playoffs puts out.

  29. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Ah ha! but it is……sales and stuff. Excel extraordinaire I bet……

  30. @Playoffs, I would like to bet 100 on the UNDER for tonight’s throw down. Thanks.

  31. Milo Hamilton says:

The Pirates have DFA’d Daniel Moskos. Maybe he can buy a ticket to watch Matt Wieters in the All Star Game.

  32. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Or, they figure nobody will pick him up…..he’s as good as gone I would think.

  33. Mlrgenuine says:

@Playoffs – I missed the window yesterday, so gotta go big and optimistic today.

    100 on the Under please.

    Lets Go Bucs!

  34. LuckyNKentucky says:

I’d say they’d trade Moskos rather than release him. We’ll know in 10 days or less. Another Burnett. Maybe a AA bat could be had.

  35. Milo Hamilton says:

    @Lucky

    Carol ?

  36. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Lucky

    What Burnett??

  37. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Ohhhh, maybe you mean to add to a trade to get a “Burnett” type of deal?

  38. cmat0829 says:

Give me 100 fake units on the UNDER please… last night was a maximum disaster so hoping to bounce back… as are Tabby/Barmes and the Bucs.

  39. likeabugonarug says:

Bedard is pitching, which probably translates to more chances at SS. Can Clint play error free? He better! And then there’s those K’s. WOW.

Playoffs, please give me 83 on the under….. I hope…..

  40. LuckyNKentucky says:

    Ryan and Milo,

Sean. They took him off the 40-man and nobody wanted him. Then he became a viable RP. Another number 1 pick is what I meant. Carol didn’t pitch I don’t think. She was a good hitter though.

  41. LuckyNKentucky says:

Wish we could get another A.J. for Moskos. Wonder what JAL and DK’s takes are. DK tweeted another number 1 DFA’d.

  42. bob hasis says:

Playoffs, One of those two you named in tonight’s proposition will go OVER with just the K’s alone. So with that in mind, I would like 50 donuts (as in 0) on the OVER.

    Thank you.

  43. pattonbb says:

    Moskos dfa’d? Wow.

So does that create another opening on the 40 man? Or is that how they added Fryer?

I get the feeling something’s in the works here folks.

  44. Karen22 says:

    Moskos DFA’d! Epic FAIL!!!

  45. Thundercrack says:

Does this mean the Long Littlefield Nightmare is over?

  46. manny _sanguine says:

    @playoffs,

    50 on the under, pls

  47. LuckyNKentucky says:

DK on Sulia says it’s a big move for a week’s backup catcher. That may indicate more, such as McKenry and his .181 average off the 40-man later. Hope not.

  48. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Moskos gets DFA’d. Again amazed at the sheer inteptidude of Littlefield and his cadre of fools. Sad thing is that the same thing will happen to Tony Sanchez sooner rather than later…….

@JD, you got it and good luck!!

@John, you got it and good luck!!

@radio, you got it and good luck!!

@jeffsbar, you got it and good luck!!

@OZ, you got it and good luck!!

@Slack, good to see you back here, you got it and good luck!!

@JRay, the stats you provided show that both players won’t cover tonight, oddly enough most of the mob agrees, we shall see…….you got it and good luck!!

@JUCO, you got it and good luck!!

@Ryan, you got it and good luck!!

@bman, you got it and good luck!!

@cosmo, you got it and good luck!!

@Kevin, you got it and good luck!!

@pattonbb, you got it and good luck!!

@MarkV, you got it and good luck!!

@Steve, welcome back, you got it and good luck!!

@Mlr, welcome back, you got it and good luck!!

@cmat, you got it and good luck!!

@bob, the Great Pierogie Extravaganza took way too long, as much as The Window loves them homemade from scratch, that was much more of a debacle than The Window originally figured it would be, good new, they came out delicious, bad news it was close to 9 before everything was done…..for tonight’s game, you got it and good luck!!

@manny, you got it and good luck!!

  49. Bizrow says:

Playoff 100 units on the UNDAH

    Thanks, good line once again

  50. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @TC

Littlefield nightmare of Cutch, Walker, Marte in AAA…..still has some strings on this team.

  51. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @Lucky

The Fort needs to have a short leash. I don’t know how many options he has left, if any, but if he doesn’t start to produce, gotta try something else.

  52. Milo Hamilton says:

    @Playoffs

    75 on the OVER please.

“I’m so glad we had this time together. Just to have a laugh or sing a song…”

  53. Thundercrack says:

    Ryan,
    Thanks for reminding me.

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Milo:

    You know the 70′s, man!

  55. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

If you look at the Pirates 40-man rotation, I guess Moskos does make the most sense.

  56. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    TC

As far as I can think of, that’s all that remains.

  57. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Milo:

When I was a kid, I loved it when she took questions from the audience.

  58. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Oh wait…….Brad Lincoln as well.

  59. Dcpinpgh says:

    100 on the under please

    Thanks
    Dave

  60. LuckyNKentucky says:

    You’re right, Ryan, 51 and 55 above.

  61. JohninOshkosh says:

Bure, Oates, Sakic and Sundin into the NHL HOF

  62. JohninOshkosh says:

    Correction: Hockey HOF

  63. Playoffs by 2012 says:

@bizrow, thank you sir, you got it and good luck!!
@Milo, you got it and good luck!!
@Dcp, you got it and good luck!!

  64. bob hasis says:

    Playoffs,

Rolling the dough is a pain in the butt, especially if you are working with (under the supervision of) a tyrant who thinks she knows everything. (that’s a LOL interjection).
After that, (again with an opinion from the tyrant) you must have just the right amount of mashed potatoes folded into the dough which must be properly cut to a shape.

While the cooking may take an hour or slightly more, once you get them into the skillet with butter and onion and the final process is under way, the intoxicating aroma becomes your preliminary reward.

You probably spent 4 of the best hours of your life in recent memory.

Congrats, on your labor of love adventure.

  65. RobertoForever says:

    @Playoffs

I’ll take 85 on the under. Just not buying into the “Jogata” criticisms or BarmEs. Cute snide comments, but not reality. As always appreciate the work.

And this lineup beat Worley AND this bullpen, so I think they have a good chance tonight, even though the beating has driven up the line on the Phillies winning.

  66. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Andy LaRoche released by Indians AAA club……..

  67. Playoffs by 2012 says:

@bob, thanks, next time I’m gonna streamline the process a bit.
@Roberto, you got it and good luck!!

  68. Convenience List!! Convenience List!! Convenience List!! Convenience List!!

  69. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Ladies and Gentlemen of the blog……….

I would like to thank one and all for the way opinions are said on here.

Just glanced over at the “other” paper and read some of the comments in Smizik’s blog……..I think I just threw up……….just a little.

I do see NMR hanging out in there….shame, shame

  70. LuckyNKentucky says:

The Pirates just signed Andy LaRoche and assigned him to State College. Just kidding. We were talking about epic failures and his name flew out there.

  71. Milo Hamilton says:

    @Roberto

Not only did they not beat Worley, he left that game on Easter Sunday with a 2-1 lead. Stop playing fast & loose with the facts.

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Ryan:

You didn’t see J.D. (not JD) over there, did you? Piece of work.

  73. Playoffs by 2012 says:

When your 3-4-5 hitters come up with runners on and can’t get a single ball out of the infield, it’s going to be a long game.

  74. RobertoForever says:

The overreaction to the errors last night is interesting.

Barmes 60 games – 9 errors – not reflective of his career numbers, but 1 error/ 6 games

    Tabata 57 games – 3 errors – that’s 1 error every 19 games.

Not a very good chance either of them makes an error tonight. About 18% chance. JRay was right when he called it an “emotional play”. Vegas gets rich on those (as do oddsmakers, of the fake and real kind, ;) )

    #BeatEmBucs

  75. RobertoForever says:

    @Milo

“Fast and loose” – Haha. Talk about pot and kettle. Hilarious.

  76. dcpfjr says:

Well it’s official. Tabata gets my vote for Least Valuable Player.

  77. Matt says:

They sure didn’t have a problem getting a hit with runners in scoring position. C’mon guys!

  78. 0-2 two out hits with runners in scoring position kill this team. Why throw three straight curves to their best hitter. He baited him into throwing the third one. Just like that 1-0 bad guys when we couldn’t take advantage of their gift in the top of the first.

  79. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    I didn’t stay long……..couldn’t take it.

  80. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Tabata running on contact. Right thing to do early in the game. Jones hits it ANYWHERE but pitcher, he’s safe.

  81. JohninOshkosh says:

C’mon Fort. Lets get an Ribbie

  82. Eric Bowser says:

    scare alert:

Gerrit Cole hit in the neck by a line drive…..

  83. Roberto for Now,

You made a mistake about Worley early on the thread. Milo courteously corrected you.

You turn around later and insist on the same mistake——Milo calls you on repeating the mistake by questioning your agenda, and you turn around and attack him instead of admitting or correcting the Worley mistake.

Dude, you must have been an only child and your parents never spanked or corrected you. Gotta build up that “self esteem!”

We all make mistakes——admit it and move on without attacking those who correct you.

And . . . . . I ask you out of courtesy for the 10th time: please discontinue using the word “snide.”

  84. JohninOshkosh says:

    atta boy, Michael

  85. Milo Hamilton says:

Atta boy’s for Pedro, Barmes & The Fort. Nicely done.

  86. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Nice AB by Fort……..at least what I can tell my GAMECAST.

  87. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Can I make a wager that Pedro will go yard tonight?? Just my thoughts, guys locked in right now. Tremendous power…as he’s shown here and there…

  88. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Bedard needs a 1,2,3 inning from the bottom part of the order…go after em!

  89. twentytwo22 says:

The ball wasn’t that deep but Mayberry caught the ball running diagnally into left center field and had to throw back against his body. Alvarez scored easily.

  90. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Thanks 22….That’s all it takes. Look for something up in the zone to get it up in the air…….

  91. Mike Shigley says:

Not a good second start for Cole. Five hits and three runs in one inning — three singles after two were out.

  92. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @Mike

    Did he get pulled?

  93. JohninOshkosh says:

Just saw Mike Schmidt on an ad. Guy has aged well. It looks like he could still play. My Dad took me to Wrigley when I was a kid just so I would get to see Schmidt play. He told me that it is very rare to have the opportunity in person to see the greatest player ever to play his position play in a game. Of course he homered.

Of course, as shortstops go-I did see Barmes play in Milwaukee when he was with the Stros :)

  94. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I think Jimmy Rollins is key for a win tonight. If Bedard can tame him, keep him off the bases, they have a pretty good shot.

  95. LuckyNKentucky says:

    Ryan,
He’s out after 1. Probably the injury. Line was bad, but not that bad.

  96. Milo Hamilton says:

Cole doesn’t answer the bell for the 2nd inning.

  97. Mike Shigley says:

No the line wasn’t that bad. Unfortunately, you can’t tell with minor leage gameday what ins and outs are going on. Heredia is not doing much better, 2 runs and 4 hits in two innings. However, Spikes fielding is poor and one of the runs is unearned.

  98. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Hope he’s ok then……rather him get pulled than stay in there.

  99. LuckyNKentucky says:

That’s a pretty good spanking there, Groat. He probably had a pillow tucked in there, though.

  100. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

If that’s all the runs Heredia gives up, its not bad……always looks worse when its early.

  101. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    2-1 bad guys…….geez

  102. RobertoForever says:

    Groat

You ask out of “courtesy”? When courtesy is offered, it is returned. My offer still stands – have folks quit the attacking of posters they don’t like and making snide jokes about them, and I will stop using the appropriate word. Its simple.

And no he didn’t correct a simple mistake. People often say a team “beat” another pitcher and that team, regardless of who received the ND or loss. I guarantee he doesn’t nitpick the comments of his band of “merry” men. And please if you have nothing but ganging up and lecturing me on decorum, when your decorum is of questionable repute, I would rather you use the “ignore” button that gets discussed.

  103. JohninOshkosh says:

Peoples Natural Gas Field is an unfortunate name for a ballpark.

  104. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Shane Victorino possibly on trading block???

Can you say LF and lead off??

  105. LuckyNKentucky says:

Marte a home run, his 7th with 41 RBI’s. Average is up to .269. Maybe not long for the ‘Burgh. K’s are down lately, too.

  106. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @Lucky

    let’s hope so……

  107. LuckyNKentucky says:

Should say not long ’til he’s in the ‘Burgh.

  108. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

OK all, off to get my learn-on…….

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  109. Two straight 90 mph fastballs down the middle to middle outside of the plate should not be looked at during an AB when you team needs hits and runs. Come on Cutch! We are now losing by that same score we ended up winning by back in April, though. Cutch will deliver later in the game.

  110. LuckyNKentucky says:

Victorino would be a great addition. Gamer. Pittsburgh “type’ of guy.

  111. twentytwo22 says:

Ruiz hit a groundball where the second baseman should be. The Phillies are not pulling off the ball they are going with the pitch. Stupid positioning or pitch selection.

  112. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Ryan:

The Phils announcers were talking about Victorino and Hamels both being sent as rentals to another team. They indicated that the Phils would expect a lot in return for either of them. Also, like so many others they are waiting to see how the club does in the next few weeks. I get the sinking feeling that after being swept in Sunday’s DH, the Phils are deciding to turn things around with the Buccos.

Well, I swam competitively in my youth and when I was a young adult, so I am going to watch the US Olympic swimming trials. Go Bucs-Beat the Phils!!!

  113. Ex-Pirate parade continues with that 2 run dinger by Wiggington. 4-1 all scored with two out for the Phills.

  114. twentytwo22 says:

MEMO TO PIRATES WAKE THE **** UP

  115. Milo Hamilton says:

If you listen to our announcers the wind blows out when the Phillies are batting, and it blows in when the Pirates are batting. Could someone get Jim Cantore on this right away ?

This is starting to look a lot like Baltimore.

  116. Baltimore indeed. If they score this inning it will be shaping up that way, and the beating they gave themselves last night didn’t help. They can still split the 4-game set if they don’t get off their behinds tonight. Bad ABs so far by the good guys. Hope it shapes up soon.

  117. JD says:

Hey Groat – Nobody asked me, but I’m with Roberto on this one. If anyone else on this blog has posted that the Bucs beat Worley last time out, Milo would have kept his yap shut. Instead he took the opportunity to yet again bash him (something that quite a few people here do on a regular basis). As far as I can tell, Roberto’s only sin here is that he is always astonishingly (perhaps delusionally) optimistic about the Pirates on a nightly basis. As someone else pointed out, that’s a lot better than the crap you see posted by the Yahoos on Smiziks blog. Alot of people here need to lighten up. Let the man root for the Pirates the way he wants too.

Even Gardy would be cool with that.

  118. Milo Hamilton says:

    @JD

    You’re wrong.

  119. Milo Hamilton says:

    @JD

The part about me, I mean.

  120. Playoffs by 2012 says:

For whatever reason, this team looks completely different on the road than they do at home.

  121. SlackBoss says:

Milo – I am sure you are a fine gentleman – but it seems to me that you act like a Philies fan sometimes – trigger ready to diss a player you don’t like and perhaps a little intolerant of others opinions. Lighten up Francis – or not.

  122. LuckyNKentucky says:

Guys this is the good JD, not that evil one from last night.

  123. SlackBoss says:

@ JD , Roberto, etc – Can’t we all just be friends? Milo too?

  124. pattonbb says:

5 starters in our lineup tonight (not counting Bedard) are batting below .230.

    Is this winning really sustainable?

  125. JD says:

Milo – Sorry, that was just how it seemed to me.

Lucky – Thanks again for not confusing me with the evil poster from last night. Where are you in KY? I’m at another BW3, this time in Lexington.

Slack – we’re all obviously Pirate fans, so all is good.

  126. JD says:

@Patton – in mid-May, it seemed there were always 2 or 3 under .200. At least they are making baby steps towards becoming a below average (instead of horrendous) offense.

  127. LuckyNKentucky says:

    JD,

South central, near the TN line. Almost 3 hours from Lexington. For example, the nearest BW3 to here is Bowling Green. 60 miles. Like George Clooney said in Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, we’re a geographic oddity. 2 weeks from everthing.

  128. LuckyNKentucky says:

    Or maybe “everything”.

  129. pattonbb says:

Arroyo has a no-no through 7 in Cincy.

  130. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Ug……..see if they can make a comeback, only 2 runs down.

  131. JRay3 says:

Well a little late to the party, what have I missed? Reds winning, Cardinals winning, really could use a come from behind win here tonight.

Lead off walk time to do some damage.

  132. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

looks like the Fort is having himself a good game…….any defensive issues?

  133. JRay3 says:

Watching on game cast and see Fort with single! Avg. up to .213 he must have been reading some of the posts about him!

  134. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Drew Sutton sighting……..hope he knows how to bunt

  135. JRay3 says:

How about a quick start with us Sutton like you did your first two games with the Rays.

  136. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Or hit a double!!!!!!!

  137. JRay3 says:

Double for Drew Sutton! Welcome to the team!

  138. JD says:

    All hail Drew Sutton!!

  139. twentytwo22 says:

no sac bunt for rbi machine tabata smart!

  140. Sutton comes through and the bench indoctrinates him with the “Z” for “Zolton.” 4-3 with 2nd and 3rd and no out. Let’s go Top of the lineup!

  141. Milo Hamilton says:

Drew Sutton, you can’t make this stuff up.

  142. pattonbb says:

You can’t stop Drew Sutton. You can only hope to contain him.

  143. twentytwo22 says:

    Tabata is a joke.

  144. Always goes foul for us for some reason. Neil found the only two inches in foul territory. Straighten it out and farther!

  145. Eric Bowser says:

stupid, why are you sending the CATCHER with McCutchen coming to bat.

    STUPID

  146. Too freaking shallow to send him. Best hitter coming up and the 3rd out at home by 10 feet. COME ON!!!!!!!!!

  147. JRay3 says:

Drew Sutton has never been given more than 78 AB’s in a season at the MLB level, however, in nine seasons in the minors was a career .280 hitter with a .378 OBP and .812 OPS.

Second and third nobody out, you HAVE to be able to get a run across….geez.

  148. pattonbb says:

    wow….just wow.

  149. twentytwo22 says:

Neil’s dad is a better hitter.

  150. JD says:

Why send him with Cutch up next?

I agree about Tabata. He’s killing us.

  151. The Gunner says:

    @ twenty two22

Tabata chokes again – why did Clint start him against a righthander tonight?

  152. twentytwo22 says:

Sick of these punch and judy piles of manure.

  153. bob hasis says:

How about that brilliant decision by Leyva, who was hired by CH, and Leyva just like Barmes continues to plod their way to their respective positions EVERY NIGHT to display utter futility and incompetence.

That’s all for now. More later -stay tuned

  154. Milo Hamilton says:

Why all the negativism ? :)

  155. Playoffs by 2012 says:

That was an absolutely pathetic 3 minutes.

Shame on Tabata for that tapper back to the mound.

Shame on Leyva for sending McKenry with McCutchen on deck.

    Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic

  156. JD says:

Anyone watching Roots telecast? I’m at bar with no sound and wondering what announcers were saying about Leyva. Cameras were on him got a bit.

  157. bob hasis says:

It’s a shame the announcers – at least Walk and Wehner who have played the game – are forced to be muzzled by their employer. I would like to hear an on-the-spot opinion, and honest truthful assessment of badly these situations are handled.

Probably for me, a simple UGH would suffice

  158. Juan Pizarro says:

anyone seriously think the Phils would pitch to McCutchen with 1st base open?

  159. SlackBoss says:

    @ Milo – I agree lol –

@ lots of others – Let’s all HATE on Tabata – after all, I am sure that he is really trying to fail!

  160. Boise Bucco says:

Just to comment on the good parts of the last inning:

    1. Pinch-hit double–always awesome
    2. 1-2-3 inning from Cruz–always awesome

I’m feeling good about McGehee this inning…

  161. Right there is why you don’t send McKenry last inning.

  162. Eric Bowser says:

just a little too much joggin for me by Cutch. Run the ball out.

  163. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    @Juan,

Good point, but then you have a bases loaded situation for Jones. Who knows what happens then. The problem is that there was no way in Hades that McKenry was going to beat that throw. Can’t give an out away like that.

  164. The Gunner says:

    @ bob hasis – # 157

Bob…………on TV, it sounded like Wehner caught himself before he said what he really felt. It was quite apparent he wanted to say more but was holding back.

  165. Eric Bowser says:

Are you kidding me…. again, Harrison.

Why are you pinch-hitting Harrison with McCutchen at 2B, OMG, worst bunt call EVER.

    SPEED at 2B…. STUPID

  166. Milo Hamilton says:

They are seriously trying to lose this game, aren’t they ?

  167. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

    quit making Harrison bunt….GD!!!!!

  168. cosmo says:

lead off double going to wasted again. Harrison blows bunt attempt again.

  169. JRay3 says:

Was Harrison trying to bunt for a hit or a sacrifice? Frustrating.

  170. Mike Shigley says:

Sorry I took time off. Final on Heredia was 2 runs, 8 hits, 2 strikeouts, and 0 walks in 5 innings (one more than his first start). Spikes are still losing though, but they have made recent late comebacks. Could find nothing more on Cole leaving early.

  171. Lawnbeaver says:

    BOOOOOOOOO
    Fundamentals!!!!

  172. Boise Bucco says:

I’m pretty sure that if Hurdle sent Harrison down to AAA to “work on his bunting,” he’d get a standing ovation.

  173. Mike Shigley says:

On a brighter note, although Bradenton was pummeled 12-3, Alex Dickerson was 2 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBIs (5 and 46 for the season). Average up to .294.

  174. Juan Pizarro says:

I did not see the play at the plate, but I guess the questions is: what are the odds of Jones coming thru with bases loaded (assume 25% chance?) vs the odds of McKenry making it home (maybe 1 in 3 chance, or 33%)?

  175. T.S. says:

Can someone please explain why the hell Hurdle pinch hit for Jones? To have Harrison bunt? That is just flat-out dumb baseball managing. You’d have gotten the same result with a well-placed groundout by Jones. Wow. If Bucs lose because of this, some of the blame has to go to Mr. Hurdle.

  176. cosmo says:

Question, If you are going to send in a pinch hitter to try to lay down a sac bunt, why not use a pitcher?

  177. Eric Bowser says:

waiting for the Pirates apologist to tell me how that bunt call is the right decision

  178. Game over right there. Do we really think the bottom of the order can manufacture another run tonight. We may be asking too much at this point. P—- poor fundamentals all night long. Chalk it up for another game given to the other team. This was over when they couldn’t get even one run home after two on and no out in the top of the first. Get them tomorrow and the next day.

  179. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

Harrison has messed his last 4 bunts up bad………….real bad….last 2 innings the boys choked hard…………bottom of the line up has to come through…………

  180. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    SHAME!!!

    That’s all I can say.

Shame on J-Hay for still not being able to bunt correctly (for those keeping score, tha’s 3 in a row he’s messed up).

Shame on McGehee for whatever that at bat was.

Shame on Pedro for striking out….AGAIN!!

    SHAME!!

  181. Phillie fans are probably asking themselves, why the Pirates continue to pitch to Ruiz. He has killed us ALL season so far. Walk him.

  182. Milo Hamilton says:

The only thing that could have been worse that inning was if McCutchen had Cadillaced it out of the box and got thrown out at 2nd base. Oh yeah, that almost did happen.

  183. twentytwo22 says:

The Pirates don’t have 1 winner in their lineup who plays every day.

  184. cosmo says:

Why do you give Ruiz anything to hit. He’s like 9 for 13 this year against the Pirates

  185. JRay3 says:

And why are we leaving Juan Cruz to pitch a second inning? In the 30 appearances prior to tonight he has not pitched more than one inning of relief.

This game has turned into a real head scratcher, lots of questionable decisions this evening.

  186. Milo Hamilton says:

All 5 Phillies runs have come on 2 strike counts. SHAME (Sorry Playoffs).

  187. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Are we really going to start dogging McCutchen here? Guy leads off with a double. A double. Who cares how fast he ran, it’s a friggin’ double!! The guy can only carry the team so much. Others have to chip in as well. But seriously, do we really need to dog Cutch?

  188. Playoffs by 2012 says:

@Milo, use it at will :)

  189. Jandy says:

    We need a frickin bat!

  190. T.S. says:

DK, if you’re at the game tonight, please ask Mr. Hurdle what the hell he was thinking about bunting Josh Harrison.

  191. T.S. says:

No Jandy, we need a miracle.

  192. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

You lead by example Playoffs…..Your main man starts doggin’ it, the rest of the team follows suit…..Never assume a ball is going over the wall……No excuses for that…..

  193. Playoffs by 2012 says:

It’s becoming apparent that this team is completely different when they play at home as opposed to playing on the road. The heart, discipline and solid play we see at PNC seems to get lost on the road. Don’t know how exactly one can combat that, but it needs to change quickly.

  194. Jandy says:

Mother Theresa is prayin for a miracle!

  195. bob hasis says:

My apologies and sympathies to those of you who CHOOSE to remain unaware; Hurdle is a horrible manager. He can’t fill out a lineup card and his in-game strategic decisions are a joke. And HE alone chooses his unwitting coaches – Leyva and Ritchie.
Searage is fantastic. No comment on the others.

So please tell me why he is so great, those of you who drink his Kool-Aid and follow the piper.

  196. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

you’ve gotta be kidding me they didn’t get those 2 runs in…….2nd and 3rd, none out?

Can’t win without getting those guys home.

  197. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    @Jay-G,

I understand that, but the guy is leading by example. He was the only one to get a hit that inning. He’s been the only consistent one in the lineup all year. I don’t understand how anyone can get on McCutchen. The guy is our team this year. It’s up to the others to pull their weight for a change.

  198. cosmo says:

    ex Pirate update:

Kip Wells (remember him) pitching for the Padres against the Astros tonite.

    4 IP 4H 1 ER 3BB 2K 1 HR allowed.

Teams aren’t desperate for pitching??? But according to NH trades don’t happen this time of year.
BTW Toronto signed Jamie Moyer to a AAA contract.

  199. cosmo says:

    DK

Does this game fall into the middle 54 also?

  200. All threes tonight. Welcome to 3 games back, 3 games above .500, and 3rd place and a game back of the Cards. I say this with a 5-3 deficit, 1st and 2nd and no out.

  201. Jandy says:

cosmo, sure looks that way :/

  202. SlackBoss says:

Wow – some fans – criticize a potential MVP – such smart baseball critics that all of you are employed by a MLB team as a manager, coach, scout, player, former player, lmao – we are all frustrated pros, but guys, get real. Criticize Harrison for failing three straight bunts, but not he manager that asks a guyno do something hat is not his strength? Let’s forget that the guy that doubled had his bat taken out of his hands by a third base coach that thinks a catcher has a better chance to score on a short fly to left than your MVP putting he ball in play. The players are not as big a problem as the coaching staff, in my opinion.

  203. Jandy says:

SlackBoss, look up there, bob hasis already said that

  204. pattonbb says:

I don’t care if Cutch does cartwheels to second. He’s the only legitimate major leaguer (positional player) on this whole team.

It’s almost July. Time to shake this squad of AAAA players up.

Oh, and I’d like to also say if Leyva was fired tomorrow I wouldn’t care, but I was afraid that would make me sound grumpy.

  205. The Gunner says:

Barmes, McKenry, a pinch hitter & if anyone gets on, Tabata. Is there a miracle on the horizon???

  206. Jandy says:

    Gunner, I’m prayin for one!

  207. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    against Paplebon………nope

  208. SlackBoss says:

@jandy – sorry I was not fast enough to read while I was writing – thanks for your support?

  209. cosmo says:

Maybe when Harrison attempts to bunt, he has flashbacks to AJ in spring training.

  210. cosmo says:

    @ Jandy

Better say alot of prayers for that lineup.

  211. Jandy says:

Slack Boss, don’t mention it ;)

  212. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Put in perspective……….yes, its frustrating, however its one game, 3 games out, 2 more to go with the Phils.

Fundemental breakdowns happen, have to see how they bounce back…it happens, even to the best of teams……

    relax

  213. Jandy says:

cosmo, I’m tripping over my Ave Marias!

  214. cosmo says:

The fort has climbed up over the Mendoza line tonite with 2 hits.

  215. Jandy says:

Thanks Ryan, the voice of reason :)

  216. Mikey!!!! 5-4 now with only one out. Too bad that couldn’t happen last night – darn wind.

  217. Jandy says:

    Way to go FORT!!!!!

  218. The Gunner says:

    Call a doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  219. cosmo says:

    @ Jandy

Do you have one more in you.

  220. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I called The Fort out earlier………one game, stepped up. I tip my hat.

  221. Jandy says:

    cosmo I’m tryin!

  222. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

On the bright side and the real reason everyone is paying attention, those that picked the UNDER should be ok

  223. Come on Tabata, make us all eat crow and tie this monster up!

  224. Jandy says:

    dang! C’mon Tabata!

  225. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

Size it up any way we want….we are competing for the division… Hurdle has been awesome dealing with the cards he has……Cutch has been great, but we all need a kick in the pants once in awhile…..Tabata needs to get going, no doubt…..Let’s be happy we have something going on to care about……We do have a few AAAA guys, but less than what we’ve had throughout the years……And the minor leagues haven’t looked better in 20 plus years…..!!!!!!

  226. Milo Hamilton says:

How apropos. Not to be negative.

  227. Jandy says:

    dayum!

  228. Under barely wins on that game ending K.

  229. T.S. says:

    Thanks Clint Hurdle. For nothing.

  230. The Gunner says:

    typical Tabata

  231. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Tomorrow is a new day!

The UNDER wins. Nothing more to add. Thanks as always to everyone that played. See you tomorrow.

    Awesome……….still beat the UNDER!

  233. Eric Bowser says:

    Pirates beat themselves

  234. Jandy says:

    Milo, you negative? Never ;)

  235. JRay3 says:

Some losses are easy to deal with ie facing Justin Verlander, or just a bad night all around like last evening, and some are tougher to stomach. I put tonight’s in the latter category.

Another game we could have won, and poor execution down the stretch results in a third straight loss and drops us into third place in the Central behind both the Reds and Cardinals.

Really need our two aces J-Mac and AJ to help salvage this series and stop the bleeding.

Try again tomorrow but this one will sting for a little bit.

  236. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    @Jray3

    Well said.

  237. twentytwo22 says:

Can’t wait to hear from the camp counselor. He’s always good for rationalizing away games his team gives away from shoddy execution. Would like a drill sergeant occasionally. Two games in and the Pirates have yet to show up to play ball. Losers is as losers do and no one to snap them to attention and bring them out of it. Not their manager and certainly not a position player. They only respond to their starting pitcher. If their pitcher shows life, they show life, but if not they look meek. They need players who show passion every day and demand execution no matter what and you can still win with a dead dog on the mound. They are losers because they have no balls. Management needs to do the operation for them.

  238. Jandy says:

    4am comes too quickly…g’night everyone.

  239. JAL says:

Too many missed chances tonight but it is a long season. The team is 38-35, many seasons fans would give a lot for 38-35 at this point in a season. So they lost 3 in row, happens to the best. Pirates are 6-4 in their 10, Reds 5-5, west leading Dodgers 3-7, east leading Nats 3-7.

Frustrating loss yes, but no more frustrating than the excitement of some of the unexpected wins this season.

  240. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    22

You do realize that there are 2 teams on the field?

As far as needing a drill sergeant mantality; How do you know there isn’t anybody in that clubhouse NOT doing that.

Critisize the game, that’s cool, but trying to critisize things that we really have no clue on??

    This team isn’t a bunch of losers…..last time I checked, 3 games over .500 = winning record.

One series, game, AB, pitch……..the tides can change that easy.

  241. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    and my spelling sucks………sorry

  242. RobertoForever says:

Tough game to stomach tonight. Bad fundamentals in several spots. Harrison needs to learn how to bunt. Need hustle from the team leader. Cruz continues to give up runs at seemingly tough times. Need some timely hitting. 6 of the 8 hits from Cutch, Fort and the Saviour. Now a 3 game losing streak. Don’t understand sending Fort, but I didn’t see the situation. If you assume the Phils walk Cutch, I think Jones with a .350 avg with RISP is a better option than forcing the sac fly attempt with the Fort. Maybe that had a scouting report that said that the tagup is more successful than normal to RF.

Positive signs – Hurdle was right to send Harrison up to PH for Jones, since a LHP was on the mound. Not sure I would have had J-Hay bunt, but maybe it was a test. J-hay needs to be able to do it.

Also, Pirates had a 4 game losing streak earlier this month and then won 6 of 7. Need to see a bounce back, especially with AJ and J-Mac on the mound for the next two. As someone said the other day, need to be having bunting drills for the team, sans AJ.

DK: I actually didn’t have a problem with sending Fort. They’re never going to pitch to Cutch, and it still took a perfect one-hop throw to get him. To me, you’ve got to try tie right there.

  243. JUCOFan says:

Not sure what to say about a team that pinch hits for its clean up hitter in the eighth with no outs and a runner on 2nd, and bunts?!?

  244. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

that clean up hittter can’t hit LH pitching.

Play for tie on road, win at home…….

  245. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    late in the game

  246. JUCOFan says:

You are making my point for me.

  247. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    negative…….1. jones isn’t a typical #4 guy…….2. he can’t hit LH pitching…….3. bunt over and you got 2nd and 3rd, I believe one out…….base hit scores 2.

    Simple plan…

  248. JUCOFan says:

Or sign a true clean up hitter and platoon your #7 hitter

  249. Chuck H says:

So, Tabata is the new whipping boy, although he deserves to be . He seems to do everything haphazardly, like he really doesn’t care one way or the other, and as a leadoff hitter he sucks. A leadoff hitter needs to get on at least one third of the time. He is not that great a fielder either. Try somebody else in the outfield and leadoff hitter.

  250. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

That’s a different conversation all together.

  251. The Gunner says:

    @ Chuck H. – #249

Chuck – thank you for jumping on my bandwagon regarding the lazy malcontent Jose Tabata. If the great Roberto Clemente (supposedly his hero) was still alive, he would want to literally beat the hell out of this disgruntled, belly aching bum. He is absolutely awful ability wise and since his contract extension from the Bucs last year, he has basically quit. Presley is a much better alternative even though their #s are similar. But, at least AP brings some passion and fire to the party. Tabata, once regarded as the “jewel” in the Xavier Nady trade, basically sucks at life.

NH (aka Opie) needs to go get Josh Willingham or Cody Ross IMMEDIATELY and hopefully include Tabata in the deal as a throw in.
