Another game?
Get out of town. This is too good to be true.
How many of these games do they play?
Who’s this Mercer guy??
They are scheduled to play 75 more but hopefully it will be more then that. I don’t even remember what it felt like to care about the baseball playoffs.
They have playoffs in baseball???
A series win should be a Brewin’ today. Let’s open the window!!

Third Place at the end of the season will win:
(1) 2012 Topps Roberto Clemente Card
Last night not good for the pitching prospects. Taillon and Cole both were hit hard in losses. Taillon gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks (2 strikeouts) in 4 2/3. Cole gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks (3 strikeouts) in 4 innings. Only 55 of Taillon’s 99 pitches were for strikes, although Cole did a bit better (55 of 81). At least Alex Dickerson upped his average to .296 (8 homers and 64 RBIs).
In fact, it was a bad night for pitchers. Bradenton’s second game starter gave up 9 runs in a 11-10 loss, and Justin Wilson, for Indianapolis gave up 8 in 3 innings of Indianapolis’s 12-9 victory. Doug Slaten reduced his ERA to 0.34 with the win. Starling Marte hit a homerun and now stands at .286 with 10 home runs and 55 RBIs.
Yes Biz. Once every two decades.
100 Under… Like to see OVER 2.5 RBI’s today though…
@Playoffs -
Day game, so I’ll put 100 on the UNDER.
100 on the under please
Playoffs
Back from a week long vacation and ready to go big in an effort to make up some ground I lost. 100 on the under please. Thanks.
Playoffs, 100 on the UNDAH, Pedro bounces back today
Playoffs…50 on the under, please!
I hope Mercer goes 3-4 and scores a couple of runs.
The victory would be nice too, but I want to see this blog blow up
Playoffs….
75 on the under please!
Here’s to AJ throwing 8+ to get the second line from Friday….
@ Playoffs – Time for a series win today.
I will also take 100 on the UNDER….thanks.
What no Gorkey for Sutton today?
I’m guessing that’s one last start for Mercer before being sent back to Indy, when Presley’s ready to go on Tuesday.
Presley went 2-4 with a walk in his first rehab start last night.
Some interesting stats:
Lifetime Stats vs. Yovani Gallardo
Clint Barmes 0-13, 1 walk, 4 K’s
Pedro Alvarez 0-5, 1 walk, 2 K’s
Neil Walker 2-5, 1 walk, 0 K’s
Andrew McCutchen 4-15, 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s, 1 walk, 2 K’s
Garrett Jones 4-11, 6 walks, 1 K
@ Pig Legs
You are right about the firing of Bob Prince & Nellie King being the all time stupidest move in Pirate history. How Milo Hamilton survived for the 3 years he was here with the constant comparisons to Prince had to be difficult. He was doomed to fail and I personally never cared for him.
So much for this topic, the Gunner is looking down on today’s Buccos and is very proud. Him & Clint would have had great chemistry; he would have helped make CH a folk hero in Pgh., just like he did with Steve Blass back in the day.
Now AJ has to go out and dominate the Brewers today so the Bucs can win another series!
@playoffs – i’ll take 50 for the UNDER plz. thanks
how about a line that goes something like
“the MLB Roster will see someone new through a trade or a call-up of someone we haven’t seen yet (Marte, Clement, R.Owens, Locke etc) over/under 30 days”
100 on the under. Thx!
Hoping that Marte joins the club for the Rockies series.
Although the routes that Sutton sometimes takes on fly balls can be entertaining!
Time to win the series. Let’s Go Bucs!
GO BUCS
50 on the over. Thanks Playoffs……

Marte in Denver………come on brass, get him there…..
Drew — well said LOL
@playoffs,
100 on the UNDER pls
Thanks
@playoffs,
Great day for a series win. It is a day game but indoors, so that may mitigate. Would love to see a Day-dro HR.
I am going to go 75 under. Need to get back on the winning side.
Thanks.
@Playoffs
100 on the UNDER please
@Playoffs
I’ll take 50 on the Under. Thanks.
Bizrow –
The Angels scout was at the game watching Correia yesterday. Peter Bourjos has been talked about I guess. He was displaced by Trout and could be a nice fit, along with Cutch and Marte long term.
100 on the UNDER
Go Bucs!
rumor that an Upton deal could include Marte!
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/justin-upton-rumors-sunday.html
ESPN is reporting Bucs willing to offer Marte in a deal for Justin Upton.
I think that would be a mistake. Would rather take my chances with Marte long term.
Playoffs: 65 on the OVER, please.
I read a report yesterday that Appel is a childhood friend of Ryan Braun and his family, and it was Braun who urged him not to sign with the Pirates.
@Bizrow, sorry about that, thanks for the reminder, you got it and good luck!!

another view on the Upton-Marte rumor
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/15/pirates-serious-about-a-justin-upton-bid/
@Playoffs
I’ll 100 on the UNDER for today.
Thanks
@Playoffs
HOw many innings does AJ need to get to break the Friday OVER/UNDER for innings pitched?
I’ve lost track and think I went OVER.
I took UNDER on the wins though, hope I’m wrong.
wait, wait, wait…….who’s this “Mercer” guy at SS?
Did I pronounce that right? LOL
Braun = Evil
Marte is not in the line-up today in Indianapolis.
Wondering why.
Playoffs. 40 on the UNDER, please
@Playoffs
I’ll take 50 on the UNDER today. Thanks!
Let’s Go Bucs!
@Playoffs:
50/Over Merci.
What in the heck would make the Red Sox think they could get Cole for Lester?
And why would Arizona give up Upton without getting one of the big name pitchers back?
So many of these rumors just don’t make much sense.
Heh, maybe Mercer is starting today to showcase him for a trade. I should tweet that so it can become a rumor.
@Ryan, AJ needs to go 8 innings for the OVER to win on that line, as for today, you got it and good luck!!
@jaxbuc, good to see you again, you got it and good luck!!
@Mlr, thank you sir, you got it and good luck!!
@John, you got it and good luck!!
Yikes…….I may take a pretty good hit today if I’m wrong on these 3.
Playoffs – 50 on the over please.
Go Bucs!
At playoffs:
50 on the under please.
@playoffs
100 on the UNDER, plz!
muchos gracias!
Being a musician, I don’t care for rap too much…Turn the channel everytime that god awful Buctown song comes on…..But seeing the story on Okobi and how big of a Pirate fan he was growing up (big Van Slyke props) got me more psyched up about Pirate baseball…….Props to Chukky……
@JD, you got it and good luck!!
@radio, you got it and good luck!!
@JMB, denada senor, you got it and good luck!!
Window will stay open until Pedro Alvarez’s first at-bat or Pedro Alvarez takes the field, which ever comes first.
I’d love to get Upton, depending on the price.
I figure he is better than Pence (if HP is made available) in a couple of ways: cost & control. Pence will cost around $20mm for the rest of this year and next, and Upton will cost around $43mm to have thru 2015 or $30mm thru 2014. I think he has a cheap buy-out for 2015.
They would cost about the same in prospects based on what I’ve read.
Lot of talk in the Wisconsin Sunday sports news that the Brewers first nine days out of the AS Break, all against NL Central teams ahead of them, are critical for the direction of the club going into the trade deadline. I think I even read that today was a “must win.”
Wow. How nice would it be for the Pirates to begin the Brewers derailment. And how nice is it that the Pirates are viewed in such high regard. I have to say the the Wisconsin sports media has been very impressed with the Bucs. Even heard good things about Barmes! Tom Haudricourt, the fine baseball writer for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, has the Pirates rated #2 in his NL power ratings.
PRNW stays RED hot!
Rumors of the Pirates serious in Upton talks are huge in my opinion. Upton is just 24 and signed for multiple years and you put him with Cutch and somebody in LF and you have perhaps the best OF in the game a a bat to protect Cutch.
Marte is unproven, Upton has done it, a move like that seriously puts us in position to compete for it this year. Especially if we do not have to add one of our TOP arms, get this deal done if possible!
Huge K of Braun there by AJ, now let’s get out of the inning!
And Ramirez goes down on strikes and AJ battles through the lead-off double, nicely done.
I think it is crazy for the Pirates not to pursue Upton. He finished 4th in the MVP voting last year and has been regarded for a few years now as one of the best all around players in the NL. Too much attachment to prospects in this organization. Marte is unproven and still needs to go through the rigorous, often lengthy, Major League learning curve before he is established as a bona fide big leaguer (Pedro Alvarez, anyone?). If there is any validity at all to those rumors, Neal ought to be working his iphone as we speak.
Some of these trade rumors…it is indeed hot stove season…
When I read something like the rumors of Gerrit Cole in a deal for Jon Lester, it makes me wonder if some sports writers write this stuff, just for the sake of sparking drama. If they’re going that route, they might as well just start a Barmes-for-Adrian Gonzalez rumor.
I can’t tell if a trade rumor like that de-values the prospect or over-values Lester. It could also be that since I’ve been a Pirate fan for the last 31 years that I’ve grown to over-value prospects.
Also, the Pirates “may have interest” in just about every single player in MLB, so I think it’s safe to go ahead and not put the “may have interest” part in trade rumors anymore.
I think DK might even agree…”may have interest” is to trade-deadline columns as “Holy ________ Batman” is to comic-book columns.
Alvarez: 5 Ks in 13 plate appearances… gotta do better than that dude…
Hey not only a Jody Mercer sighting but a ground rule double in his first AB, time to take the early lead.
At least Burnett didn’t bunt it into his eye.
Missed sac bunt = missed Sutton SF to take the lead though.
Hope Walker can make it meaningless.
it all depends on relatively cheap “years of mlb control” you get with these young players.
we control Marte through 2019 I believe, i could be wrong.
Upton’s years & salary
2012 $6,750,000
2013 $9,750,000
2014 $14,250,000
2015 $14,500,000
Upton doesn’t come cheap, relative to the Pirates, and I’m not sure they can keep him, Cutch, as well as sign guys like McDonald and others.
This trade would basically be mean WS championship in 2015 or bust. not sure the Pirates can make moves like that.
Here’s a little blast from Milwaukee’s past…Ben Sheets is pitching today for the Braves, and he’s not doing too bad. He’s keeping up with Johan Santana, and thru 5 innings he’s given up 2 hits/0 runs/1 BB/4 K’s. Hope it works out for him!
The Bucs control Marte for 6 full years of service, and his clock doesn’t start until he’s promoted. So assuming they call him up some time in the 2nd half, that would mean they’d have him through 2018, I believe.
Remember too that the Bucs could always flip Upton after the 2013 season if needed. There are a good dozen teams for which $14M isn’t too much to pay someone.
Cutch is AMAZING!!!
Cutch and the opposite field homers……nice…..
Are you serious…CUTCH a solo bomb and the Bucs lead…MVP, MVP
AND BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!!!!
YESSSSS
I’ve never seen a Pirates hitter this locked in, ever.
Yes, I’m including Barry Bonds in statement.
wow
greatness blooming right b4 our eyes
we are just witnesses
It’s really a shame how badly the Home Run Derby has messed up Cutch’s swing.
DUELING STORYLINES…………..
McCutchen’s March to the MVP
Alvarez’s March to the Mendoza
Not only does Pedro strike out, but than to follow it up with a lack of hustle on a ball that gets away is inexcusable, I’m sure Clint will be all over that.
Last Mets/Braves update I swear…Braves put up a 6-spot on Santana in the 5th, Braves up 6-0 and Sheets is in line for his first MLB win in like 3 years!
So is Pedro OVAH the OVAH yet?
Haha Karstens is telling AJ right now, “dude, it took you 7 pitches to get out of that inning!? WAY TOO MANY.”
AJ Burnett is just locked in right now, needs just seven pitches to get out of the fourth. How about a few add-on runs for him?
Playoffs…
Forget Alvarez’ march to the Mendoza… the guy’s struck out 6 times in 10 plate appearances this weekend… Bucs have K’d 23 times in 13 innings (23 of their 39 outs).
I don’t think Cole is going anywhere
Pedro is still UNDER thanks to a friendly scoring decision a few innings ago… But it’s not looking good.
@Naje
After Alvarez made that error at third last night that allowed 2 runs to score, you could just see it in his face. I cringed as I watched it. Then the next 2 at bats he barely swung the bat and K’ed both times.
You can see it in the field and at the plate today. Stinks that one bad play can set him back like that. I only hope it’s just a week of this and not the rest of July and into August. He’s come way to far to regress at this point in the season.
Playoffs…
Yeah, your point about that error is pretty clear. I sense it will be a short term thing based on Hurdle’s quotes about Alvarez talking to him and relieving some of that pressure he’s putting on himself. He’s lost again… head just can’t focus on making contact with the ball or whatever approach he’s deciding to use.
Lack of focus…lack of a plan…add those together and even the best hitting talent gets rendered useless.
3rd time through the lineup…time to do some damage.
@Naje,
I hope so as well.
The Window has to log off unfortunately. Dinner at the in-laws followed by hockey coaching. The Window will update the final weekend standings this evening. Take care all and GO BUCS!!
I saw that Gallardo has 50 walks this year. The Pirates are not hitting smart. If a pitcher is going to throw the ball in the dirt and you swing at it, it’s a wonder he doesn’t get 27 strikeouts. Bad approach. My not even matter but it’s still bad.
A Jose Castillo reference…..I will say this Castillo and Jack Wilson turned some great double plays………
Another hit for Cutch……..all fields, all typles of hits……..locked in………..
Horrible throw by Jones, just can’t give up a run like that…. my goodness that was bad
UGGGHHH…..
Just like that 2-1 Milw. Errors kill
Maybe this will light a little fire for the Bucs…1 run was never gonna hold agains the Brewers.
Cross fingers for Walker.
Wheels coming off. Come on Man!
Defense, defense, defense… second half of last year was bad pitching and bad defense.
Not liking the team defense these first three games.
Just looking terrible defensively and are giving the Brewers this game.
Even Cy Young candidates have a hard time keeping it close with defense like this. Pedro was charged with an error on that Weeks play for O/U players.
Terrible inning. Crazy that was ruled a hit and not an error on Pedro… good for the “under” though.
Well, at least we won yesterday cuz otherwise I would be worried!
3 games, 1 game of bad pitching, 3 games of bad situational hitting, 1 game of horrid approach to hitting, and 3 games of bad defense. Hopefully they leave the circus in Milwaukee.
Ha — nevermind. Pedro gets the error. They changed the ruling.
At least we didn’t get swept. Reds 5-game streak. Could be left in dust like last year if we don’t pick it up in Denver.
I really wish they would have shipped Milwaukee back to the American League and kept Houston in the Central, this place is just a house of horrors for the Bucs,
Too bad Gorkys Hernandez can’t hit…
I guess we’re not going to put the ball in play anymore.
They had to play well today. Gallardo might add a Cy Young to his resume someday.
15 K’s yesterday, already 13 today, get the team a bat! Sutton can not play everyday and is a liability in the OF, Hernandez plays great defense but does not hit. Get Presley back up here.
I am headed to Denver tomorrow and will see the Bucs series at Coors Filed and hope they leave this show behind in Milwaukee as the upcoming series will be big against a lesser foe.
Going through the motions. Epic fail.
Struck out the side. Geez, the Pirates can rack up the K’s.
2 more strikeouts on balls not even close.
JRay,
You get around!
Where is your home?
Another career high in K’s
PBC should get bonuses from the pitchers that do that
BTW Franchise record for strikeouts by a starter is 18 (Sheets)
@ JMB – I live in Phoenix, AZ…travel the SW with work which takes me to Denver next week, but I planned it that way so I could catch the series while Pittsburgh was there.
Always try to catch a few of the west coast series that I can get to like San Diego in August to take advantage of my best opportunities to see Bucs baseball.
AJB still in with 81 pitches thrown Wonder if book on him for the next few weeks will be to jump on his first pitch.
Marte isn’t in the lineup for Indy.
Get rid of Pedro!!
@ Eric – interesting…could he be coming to Denver? Could a trade be imminent?
@JRay3 – I’m hoping Pirates promote him and see what they have or don’t have before the trade deadline. I’m not real high on their chances to acquire outfielder Justin Upton if the team won’t offer Jameson Taillon.
The Rockies will throw two LHP against the Pirates to start the series with Francis and Friederich. Maybe Marte is coming up to get the RH bat into the lineup. Also, the Rockies use a four man rotation with their starters capped at 75 pitches.
I think Sheets won for Atlanta today??
Sutton 0 for last 8 with 5 K’s.
This team cannot win with Garrett Jones and Sutton in the outfield with Barmes at shortstop and Alvarez at third. Cannot wonder boy Huntington see this??
And, how about Bob Walk today being so stupid to say Pirates striking out may be a strategy to get the starters tired and get to “their under-belly–the bullpen”. Pirat announcers homerism has caused them to lose all touch with reality because they always look for ways to paint a pretty picture. How dumb do they think all of us are??
@Bizrow:
Yes, Sheets won. The line:
Player IP H R ER BB K HR BFP Pit B-S ERA OpBA
B. Sheets, (W 1-0) 6.0 2 0 0 1 5 0 21 88 31 – 57 0.00 .100
Atlanta is an organization that has always been aggressive and thought outside of the box.
McCutchen is only guy who showed up today.
Funny how the Cubs got LaHair starting in right today and both the Snakes and the Cubs have all the potential trade pieces in the starting lineups, knowing that Pirates are scouting Upton today. Can’t fault the Cubs for that.
Upton is stinking it up with the bat as he has all year though. Did have an outfield assist, although Rizzo isnt exactly a speedburner.
I hope they don’t trade Marte. He’s a special player.
Well Cutch came to play after the break, but he needs some help.
I can’t describe how bad that at-bat was by Jones. He was ready for the game to be over. That was bush league.
and Milwaukee’s house of horrors does it again to Pirates.
Get out of that city now.
We can’t win????….We’re tied for first place….We hardly ever lose series…We are going to lose a few more….We’ll get Presley back, will get Marte up…..That’s a big upgrade there…..We’ve had to battle the last few weeks because of Presley’s injury and Tabata’s goofiness….but have still won!!!!…..Trying to take pitches and get their starter out early was Walk’s point….Not striking out 300 times….Horrible game…Great season…Looking good for the upcoming week…………
There is no excuse to look that bad in a series when you are in first place and playing a sub .500 team. I don’t care where the game is played. Somebody better be pissed. 3-3 road trip is fine but that caliber of baseball couldn’t beat Houston.
@ twentytwo22 – tough to argue, did not look like a first place team the past three days, only thing to do is move on and hope for better out in Denver.
One more thing from that game, when a rookie scrub catcher cheap shots your second best player that guy needs one buried in his ribs. Chicken pitching by the Pirates.
Root for STL tonight.
Well, time to go cook some wings.
That was an absolute STINKBOMB. And so was the whole series…amazing we won one. NOT happy!
The AB by Weeks where the ball was smoked by Alvarez (who was unable to get in front of it) was first ruled to be a hit, then changed to an error, and later officially changed to a hit giving Weeks the double. The over/under action was still in play at that time. However, Alvarez later-wait for it-struckout giving him three strikeouts on the afternoon.
Thus, the OVER wins it.
F Milwaukee. There I said it. Pedro K’s 3 times today to make the OVER a winner. The Bucs 3 starters this weekend put up a combined 17.67 innings making the UNDER a winner, and they only take 1 in Milwaukee so the UNDER wins that as well. Thanks to all who played this weekend. MULTIPLE LINE MONDAY is up for tomorrow. See you then.

Please don’t trade Marte. he is a special, special player. I’d like Upton as well, but not at the expense of Marte. Trade Tabata instead, trade 4 or 5 guys for just him if you absolutely have to, but please do not trade Starling. He’s gonna be really, really good.
