Again, huge thanks to Ryan for subbing in for me yesterday. Much appreciated. Just a head’s up. On most weekdays for the next few weeks, the OVER / UNDER will be posted at or around 8 AM in the previous day’s game thread. I’ll need someone to re-post it for me in the current day’s game thread. So any and all help is greatly appreciated. Once I can get into a decent routine at work, I’ll post them again in the early afternoon. Thanks as always for you help and support. You guys rock!! Thanks playoffs, I can’t believe how good your lines are
Soooo close
@ playoffs
Man, you get a job and now we have to do extra work? Kidding, of course. happy to help out.
I’ll take 75 on the over.
Pedro vs. RHP — 100 on the OVER, please!
If Bucs are looking to rest Barajas… today would have perfect to do so. McK “hot” after 2 hits last night and then RodB would have 3 days in a row, Unless Rod alkways catches JMac or something.
Sensing Friday moves… anyone?
Barajas usually catches JMac and Burnett + catching a day game after a night game is rough on the catcher.
Day game + RHP + pitcher with an ERA of 6+. Going to have to put 100 on the OVER.
Please, kind sir (or madam), may I have 100 on the OVER. Let’s score a dozen today!
@playoffs,
100 on the OVER pls
Thanks
@Bizrow, The Window can’t believe how close the lines are sometimes as well, if only The Window had luck like that at the real window, you got it and good luck!!
@Chico, funny how that works right? You got it and good luck!!
@tmp444, you got it and good luck!!
@Demon, you got it and good luck!!
@jaxbuc, The Window is a true gentleman in every sense of the word, just don’t ask Mrs. Playoffs for confirmation on that, you got it and good luck!!
@manny, you got it and good luck!!
Playoffs, I would like to risk 50 of my accumulated Cruzieros on the OVER for the newly assertive Pedro. Good luck with the job. I am currently winding down my full-time employment, and looking forward to “retiring” at the end of September.
Stuart66
100 on the OVER.
@Playoffs
May I please have 100 units on the over. #Daydro.
OK — I know McCutchen has speed and hits for average, but how long can Clint ignore his power? Bat him 4th I say! — especially on days when you can go with Sutton, Presley, and Walker in the first 3 spots. With today’s line-up it would be a bit trickier, but I like Jones at 3 followed by McCutchen and then Alvarez and then McGehee.
Just an opinion, subject to change.
Day game! 100 on the over.
Jhadar,
Just to be Devil’s advocate; I think putting Andrew in the 4 slot might make some subtle message to him to start swinging for the fences. I say he is in the perfect spot at 3, and I hope he stays there for another 10 to 15 years!
PS Free Marte Now!!!
Stuart66
@Playoffs
If this was the final Jeopardy question, I’d bet all 1,300 of my imaginary points, but since there is a limit…
100 on the OVER please
Let’s Go Bucs!
at playoffs:
As I watch my score sink in the west, I don’t know what to do.
Last night I took the under, and the guy gets 1 strike above the line, ridiculous.
I’m swinging for the fences again, PA has been lousy except for the late night HR, 100 on the over.
Why not give us a line on whether or not Walkers hit streak continues?
I wonder if not batting in the same place in the order everyday is a bother to him?
Go Bucs.
Milo,
That’s 2 posts for you, but who’s counting? (couldn’t resist) Still only 1 for Jandy.
@stuart, congrats on the upcomming retirement, The Window only has about 30 – 35 years to go before that dream will be realized, you got it and good luck!!
@Evan, you got it and good luck!!
@Milo, #daydro, LOVE IT!! You got it and good luck!!
@pants, welcome back, you got it and good luck!!
@Mlr, bet the mortgage on this one!!! You got it and good luck!!
@radio, The Window is a firm believer in hexes, curses, jinxes, mojo, karma, and poxes. The Window has yet to put up a “Walker Only” and will not do one while the “you-know-what-streak” is going on. Just knocked on wood three times after writing that. Everyone else please do the same. You got it and good luck!!
@playoffs
100 OVER, plz
THANKS!
@ playoffs
As stated once or twice….it’s a day game. Let me have the over for 100 units.
Thanks!
Assuming new guys can join? I have 0 pts… usually optimistic but I’m bearish on Pedro. Was 0-5 with 3 Ks last night. Trying to remember last time he had more than one hit and he strikes out a lot. Betting he goes 1 for 5 tonight. 2 run homer. and 3 more strikeouts. 100 pts on UNDER.
@Playoffs
I’ll take 75 on the OVER. Thanks.
@JMB, you are welcome, you got it and good luck!!
@crkkid, you are welcome as well, you got it and good luck!!
@K. PenFan, all are welcome at The Window, you got it and good luck!!
@MarkV, you are welcome, too, you got it and good luck!!
Walker has one of the prettiest swings in baseball. Glad to see the ball drop “where they ain’t” lately. Here’s to the you know what continuing. I tell you, the AS break couldn’t have come at a worse time for our Bucs…..cooled them off a little. And teams not firing on all cylinders (Cincy) got a chance to regroup. But I’m positive we’ll get rolling again.
@Playoffs:
50 edamame beans on the OVER, if you please.
My Mets fan brother is visiting and we watched your game last night. Looked like a lot of empty seats for a division leader. Hope you yelled, “You Suck!” to Bob Carpenter and F.P. Santangelo!
@ OshKosh BGosh. LOL!
Pick time!
Well we arent in round B.
round A is later. I think two teams get stiffed, so it will be interesting.
Playoffs:
50 on the over
DK,
Am I missing the point as to what rationale is being employed by Appel?
Could the team that chooses him lowball the offer, being that his alternative is independent ball for a year if he declines?
Round A
Pick 6 Miami
5 reds
4 orioles
3 zona
2 pirates
1 KC
WooHOO – we got the 2nd lotto pick!
Quentin for the comp pick?
If we had gotten the 1st pick, would we have heard any conspiracy theories about a “give back” after not getting Appel?
After reading about NBA draft conspiracy theories, people can think up anything.
Way higher than I thought was even possible.
I officially have no idea how the new draft rules work.
I predict that pick will be the 1st one ever traded.
Here is an interesting fact – Going into action today The Yankees have 75 RBI from the #7 spot in their line-up.
“2 different worlds we live in…”
Need this one today-Lets go Bucs’!
@ playoffs – 100 units on the over please
Playoffs:
75 on the OVER
@JMB -
Clearly, Bud gave the Pirates the 2nd pick after seeing what happened with the NBA situation.
Clearly.
@NMR -
Bottom 10 teams in revenue and market get put in Pool A. Some of those are the same, so 13 teams this year. I THINK it’s an uneven distribution of chance based on previous year’s winning percentage, kind of like what the NBA and NHL do.
Pick 6 of those teams in some order as Group A.
Pool B is any team from Pool A that didn’t end up in Group A plus any teams that got revenue sharing. This year, that was the Tigers.
Pick 6 of those teams as Group B.
Draft order is now:
1st Round
Free Agent Compensation Picks (Much fewer than in the past, have to offer something like $12M+ if I understand it correctly)
Group A
2nd Round
Group B
May be something else between 2nd Round and Group B, not sure.
Playoffs- I’d like 100 on the over please. (hoping to still get in since Pedro didn’t bat yet)
Well, that’s a lovely start. JMac falls behind the first hitter 2-0, then gives up a bomb. Now 3-0 to the second hitter. Great “bounce back start”….
The other good thing about the lotto is that the Cards got nothing.
Oooof! This is not a good start.
Settle down dude
This just means they need to trade for an arm, bring up the bat from internal personnel.
Coors Field or no Coors Field, this game is OVAHH.
HR, 4 pitch walk, HR. Ugh.
Playoffs, 100 on the OVER please. Thank you! (and congrats on the new job)
McDonald has been bad with his control the past few outing. He looks like the pitcher from last year. I think we definitely need some pitching help before the trade deadline
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I heard somewhere (maybe the Fan) that JMac’s ERA in the 1st inning is somewhere in the high 4s, and in the 1s after the 1st?
I hope Jeremy Guthrie gets back to his old self here next inning. Gonna take some offense today.
–Coors Field or no Coors Field, this game is OVAHH.
Naah. JMAc has had some rocky starts in the past only to bounce back and mow down 10 in a row. Add that to the fact the offense has looked much better as of later(save for a couple of games recently) and add that to Coors Field playing like it is 1998 all over again and this game is far from over.
blech. Probably too late.
El Toro time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pedro now batting. HOME RUN!!!!!!
@John, it was a brutal night for a game in DC yesterday, 100 degrees and high humidity, The Window was surprised they drew as many as they did to that game. The Window didn’t really have time to yell at Carpenter of Santangelo, most of The Window’s taunts landed on Adam LaRoche. Alwys nice to see him fall into a prolonged slump, brings back so many memories. The Window did see Ray Knight there, and yelled NANCY LOPEZ at him. Good times!! You got it and good luck!!
@Hal, you got it and good luck!!
@Slack, good to see you again, you got it and good luck!!
@Bucco_Jax, are you the same as jaxbuc, or a different person?? You got it and good luck!!
@JD, you got it and good luck!!
@buggee, welcome back and thank you, you got it and good luck!!
And just like that #Daydro is only one hit / walk away from covering
DAYDRO
Pedro Alvarez, King of the Daytime Dinger
That was an opposite field moonshot or should I say sunshot. Glad no one told Pete it was ovah.
@DD
That Bud is tricky!
I knew I didn’t need that clearcoat.
@JMB
Don’t forget the floor mats and the rust-proofing!!
Been hoping that we could get out of Denver without Cargo doing some damage.
How long before Brad Lincoln gets up in the pen. Can’t imagine Mr. J-Mac is long for this game at this point. 42 pitches and only 4 outs. Yikes, just not his day I guess.
JonHeymanCBS
according to @DKnobler, kendrys morales is available in trade. makes sense since they are stuck with vernon wells
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/moralke01.shtml
112 OPS+, but only .758 OPS.
Where’s CD brewer?
@DemonDog
Much, much appreciated for the draft rundown.
I have a headache. Blood pressure related I’m guessing.
The Pirates aren’t with it at all. 6 for 6 in **** performances.
I just signed back on…for THIS???
2 innings
52 pitches
5 runs
Not J-Mac’s day today, but this one is still far, far from over.
jimcallisBA
High. #mlbdraft dollars are coveted. __ Any idea what potential value of a lottery pick would be in trade proposals this year?
My dogs are three hours away so I have nothing to kick.
Where’s Thunder?
@Drew
You can kick your Joe Paterno commemorative bobblehead.
Too soon?
Good to see 22 here to add some cheer. I was beginning to get depressed.
Just when I thought all had successfully navigated themselves off the ledge…
G FN JONES!!!!!!!!
The Legend right on cue!!!
Somehow, this is still a game.
Wrigley-style slugfest in the making!! Pitching apparently optional.
——In my best Chris Berman voice——-
Jones blasts one, back back back back….GONE!!
He hits that one to Pueblo!!
Garrett jones makes this thing competetive again with a single swing of the bat. BOOM!
Give him a hit!
bah — error.
Daydro hits the knuckle-puck to short. What is the official ruling?
Back to back errors on the Rockie infield. Getting sloppy.
Kicking and fighting my way back up the ladder…
100 on the OVER, please, Playoffs…Thanks.
Anyone who thinks a Pirates game is over in the early innings, even when faced with a 3 or 4 run deficit, has not been paying attention. This is what they do. Lately, all of the starters have 1 bad inning, and the hitting eventually picks them up and makes the game competitve.
The fact that the Buccos are able to win some of these games, while they struggle with pitching and defense, is a good sign. When they get things firing on all cylinders again. this team will be mowing down the competition. Just hope it doesn’t take much longer. Maybe get it together on the home stand where the Bucs are 15 games over at PNC Park.
C’Mon barmes. Do something constructive for a change.
@Kevin, sorry too late for today. Window closed at Pedro’s first at-bat.
Barmes!
BARMES WITH THE TEXAS LEAGUER FOR THE LEAD!!!
This inning coupled with the news from home that even after a hellacious storm we had no damage & the basement is dry has my headache subsiding.
BARMES!!! The new HONUS!!!
@Roberto
Well said.
I’ve thought for at least a month if they can find a way to win 41 games on the road this year, they take the division.
Wow, he must have been listening! 2 Out 2 Run Single!
Changed Pedro to a hit.
As much as I claim to be a pitching prude, how can you NOT have fun watching baseball in Denver?
Shame on my hypocritical self.
Official scorer changed error on Alvarez AB, I believe, to a hit so Over wins already?
ALL WITH 2 OUTS!!!!!
Well as of now Pedro has covered the OVER. Will wait and see if they change the ruling again before making the tally official.
AJS
Yes, that error on Pedro’s AB was changed to a hit, so the OVER wins already.
#Dayrdo strikes again (too bad I was too late for the window, lol)
Now, how about putting up a few zeroes?
It’s Colorado, and it was Guthrie, so was way early to panic. If JMac can’t recover, turn it over to Lincoln.
I’ve seen a lot of games this year where the official scorers have waffled on calls. Bizarre. Maybe it’s just selective perception on my part.
I’m a different person.
I guarantee Marte will be called up tomorrow for this weekends series….It just seems like the right time…..(past the right time)……
Did JRay play the O/U today and take the over? Maybe he and his “employees” paid a visit to the official scorer’s booth.
@Bucco_Jax, thank you and welcome to The Window!!
Bill Romanowski jersey spotted in the crowd.
Scavenger hunt is now complete!!
@John,
JRay had an excused absence today.
Thanks for the easy one today @playoffs.
My losing streak was getting concerning!
There’s one 0!
Apparently two 0s in a row was too much to ask for.
Maybe the Window should consider a line on when/if Marte is called up?
McDonald’s pitches have no confidence or conviction behind them.
Think Hurdle needs to look for whatever he found wrong with Bedard’s mechanics…I can’t watch the game but the box score looks awful.
Playoffs –
I apologize. I just walked in the door from work and plunked my 100 at the window. Nice way to save a fake 100!!
Lumber Co.!
This is going to be a long game with all this offense on both sides. No lead is safe today.
So, Garrett Jones is now 5 for his last 8 AB’s against LHP, IIRC.
So, isn’t it time to start playing GIJones in RF/1B regularly instead of sitting him against Lefty starters? McGehee is getting lots of starts for Righties, and Jones is hitting better lately on the tougher splits.
And Barajas and McGehee have BOTH HR’ed since I started typing this, lol.
God, these Pirates are playing so sloppy, I don’t even know why they show up {sarcasm alert}
DK: Great point about Jones, RF.
Daaaaannnnnggggg
@Kevin, no worries, that’s what I figured.
For those at work today: Roethlisberger and Isaac Redman have looked good. But so has Peyton for them.
I’m not watching, but is McDonald pitching well enough to be earning a trip out to the mound for the 5th inning and a chance for the win? 6 runs thru 4 innings seems like a lot, and I know that they don’t want to get into the bullpen too early, but what else is Lincoln gonna do today? Read a book?
Kind of surprised to see JMac go back out for the 5th.
Guess they want to try to get him the W?
I started to follow a baseball game and a home run derby broke out.
Jones in right, McGehee at first, and MARTE in left for Friday night would look good!
99 pitches as I type. one down
Might as well give J-mac the chance to win.
Looks like this one is going to have a football score before it’s over.
Boise Bucco, 6 runs in four innings is a lot.
Still we have 9 in 5 and MacDonald is going out for the 5th.
Wish I had this on TV, looks like fun (except when they’re batting)
What happens if they call Marte up and he goes 0 for his first 25?
uh-oh time
I’m glad that McDonald now qualifies for his 10th win but I think him and the Pirates staff need to get back to the aggressive pitching that was the foundation of the team for 3 months. With this offense they have now it’s like the pitching and defense have gotten sloppy.
All of the tough losses JMac had earlier in the season, he deserves a payback win today….Thanks offence for picking him up…Let’s get more…..
@ Reading….I’d rather see Presley in left/Jones on first/Marte has a cannon for RF…Casey can platoon…………?????
Cutch is 0-3 and they STILL got 9 runs…not a bad day at all!
Whaaaaa?
Clutch grounds into double plays??? On a 1-0 count, after a 4 pitch walk to Walker? Awww, even my heros have flaws, lol.
So MacDonald goes out with a 2.93 ERA and Lincoln comes in with a 3.04 — wonder if his will be higher or lower by the end of the day. Air must be thin in Colorado today.
The Pirates’ pitching staff now has the 7th most walks in the NL. Good time to clean that up against the below .500 teams they are playing.
I think that McGehee has done a great job defensively at first. I’d leave him there and play Jones in right. Presley can PH.
Presley could also spell Marte if Marte goes 0-25
El Toro w. the Ole’
HEADS UP TO ALL
The lines for THREE=PLAY FRIDAY will be posted on THIS THREAD no later than 8 AM on Friday. Just need one of you fair weathered souls to re-post it onto the Friday game thread for me. Thanks in advance.
That was a quality top half of the seventh.
Wow. I disappear for an hour, losing 5-1, and I come back to see a lacrosse score.
Did you just say Drew needs to go away?
Sorry, we like you and all, but the results speak for themselves.
Very nice and tidy 2 innings for Lincoln.
Nice job by Lincoln.
@Playoffs
Exactly lol
I’m kind of chuckling as I read—we have the game DVR’d, and have just been following the updated score and comments on the blog online. Actually AFRAID to watch it live! God, I hope we win so I can watch the fun AFTERWARD!
Phew — Tony Watson!
Good point.
Dodged one there.
On the radio, they mentioned that the TV side put up a graphic on Walker’s hits.
99 hits
33 to LF
33 to CF
33 to RF
Wow.
Score 9 runs & the only 2 guys to go hitless are Walker & McCutchen.
Also,
Pirates have 9 runs, and Walker and Cutch combine for 0-8. Cutch’s average falls 5 points to .269
Time for the Hammer. Let’s hope its less gut-wrenching than last night!
3-3, I’ll take it!
RAISE that road Jolly Roger!
Garrett Jones with a 3 for 5 day, a triple shy of the cycle, and a monster 3 run HR, after the Rockies pitched around Cutch. He also got a hit off a LHP, making him (I believe) 5 for 9 against Lefties lately.
J-Mac struggled, but got the win, going 5 innings and giving up 6 runs.
Buccos off tomorrow and then start a homestand against the Astros. Time to get healthy. Would love to see the D-backs take today and tomorrow’s games against the Votto-less Reds.
Come on D-Backs. Hammer those Reds.
Correction – the homestand starts with 3 games vs the Marlins and then 3 vs the Cubs
Time to follow Reds/D’Backs…unbelievable.
In Morgantown where my internet connection comes and goes so if you don’t see morning links tomorrow or Friday, that is why
Did get to watch the game today.
Well. I did MY job. Disappeared so they’d win.
MVP?
Here are the stats: 3-3 road trip, 33 RS 31 RA +2. I haven’t looked it up but I think the defense cost them at least 5 runs. Here are the gruesome walk totals.
Pirates IP BB
Starters 36.1 16
Bullpen 15.1 10
TOTAL 51.2 26
Opponents IP BB
Starters 30.0 7
Bullpen 24.0 9
TOTAL 54.0 16
I believe that will get cleaned up. 3-3 is fortunate. I’ll take back gutless and choking dogs and losers and apply the proper term for that trip ‘sloppy’.
God I hate Milwaukee.
Great win for the big bad Buccos today! J-Mac’s line looked awful but the offense stepped up.
I agree with DK’s comment @ 121 regarding playing Garrett Jones in RF no matter if a lefty or righty is pitching. Marte in left, Cutch in center, and Garrett in right – sounds like a winner to me. Presley can be the late inning replacement guy for Jones.
I am all in!!!
DK: Giving credit where it’s due, the comment — a good one — came from Roberto Forever.
I’m cheering on the Phillies. I want the Dodgers buried.
Carlos Ruiz still batting .350.
Bury the Cardinals too (47-45). The Mets are 0-5 since the break, bury them too. Bury all the Wild Card contenders just in case.
Does anybody here believe that #allbuntsarebad ? The Phillies had 1st and 2nd 0 out in the top of the 12th and Carlos Ruiz made an out without advancing the runners.
Jamey Wright pitching:
Shane Victorino : Strike looking, Victorino singled to left center.
Chase Utley : Ball, Pickoff attempt, Ball, Victorino stole second, Intentional ball, Pickoff attempt, Utley intentionally walked.
Carlos Ruiz : Ball, Strike swinging, Strike looking, Ruiz flied out to left.
Hunter Pence : Strike looking, Ball, Foul, Ball, Pence reached on fielder’s choice to third, Victorino to third, Utley out at second.
Juan Pierre : Ball, Pierre grounded out to second.
You gotta bunt there. That’s bad baseball.
Phillies lose 5-3. That’s why you’re in last place. Now give us Cole Hamels and Hunter Pence.
Good 3-3 road trip considering the house of horrors in Milwaukee.
Missed last night’s game because of the power outage and today’s because it was a day game.
Hopefully, Pirates can continue their strong home performance this homestand.
We chanted MVP for you earlier, Drew.
People at work were looking at me funny though.
A few team hitting categories that you’d like to see improve soon. (stats prior to today’s game)
Strikeouts
Pirates: 739 (15th) = 8.21 per game
NL Avg: 689
Walks
Pirates: 219 (15th) = 2.43 per game
NL Avg: 273
Pinch Hit Avg
Pirates: .196 (13th)
NL Avg: .237
Caught Stealing
Pirates: 33 (worst in MLB)
NL Avg: 23
Looks like I missed all the fun, but hey, glad to see the W
Lucky, sorry i couldn’t post more to p^ss someone off, I was on the road today.
Good Demon. (Does that make any sense?)
JANDY! i KNEW you had it in you!
No really. I knew you had it in you.
Drew, I DO possess SOME intestinal fortitude :p
is that what the kids call it now?
Kids? hahahhaa! Drew, you’re so funny! ;p
Xavier Paul sighting. He pinch-hit for the Reds.
@22
And he made an out. Go figure.
LOL
Reds being routed in the 8th by Arizona.
The Pirates were on the road for 6 games while the Reds were at home for 6 and they only lost 1 game in the standings.
The Reds have 4 games remaining on a 10 game homestand. (1 vs ARI, 3 vs MIL)
The Pirates begin a 6 game homestand Friday. (3 vs MIA, 3 vs CHC)
Next week, the Reds play 3 at Houston and then 3 at Colorado.
The Pirates play 4 at Houston next weekend.
These schedules are so similar that it is tough to find areas that favor either team aside from the 6 games just played.
What a day and what a game. I have to tell you games like that can be a little nerve-wracking but are sure fun to watch, especially when the final out is recorded and you have won the game.
It was funny after the Rockies took a big lead I stood up and got excited when Pedro hit his HR and some fans behind me yelled scoreboard. I turned and told them talk to me about that after the 9th. Even when down 5-1 for some reason I felt good about today and Jones, McGehee, Barajas, Barmes sure aided in that. I was sitting in the second row in sec. 116 near RF so after Jones hit his 3-run bomb I yelled out to him and told him big hit and way to start the rally, he looked over and gave me a wave and a point. Awesome!
Stayed down in LoDo to watch the Reds game, and my hometown DBacks came up big and have taken 2 of the first 3 and the Buccos are back in first place. Coors Field is a great stadium and the area surrounding the stadium is awesome and has a great vibe.
3-3 road trip I think we can take that. Could have been better but easily could have been worse. Time to head back home and take advantage of the six-game homestand. Correia, Burnett, Karstens due up next.
Let’s Go Bucs!
Reds lost, so Pirates now back in first place (with a tie).
Bucs off tomorrow, Reds host series finale with D-backs
@JRay
Way to bring home two wins!
@ Roberto – Can’t get to the home games like you but trying to get a record similar to yours when in attendance. This year so far 4-2 when I have seen them in AZ and COL, next up SD in Aug.
Great salvage of a series after game one, this team seems to just pick each other up. J-Mac is off today, he gets the run support. Walker and Cutch don’t hit, no problem everybody else does. Grilli struggle for second straight game Watson gets the job done and ball to Hammer.
Just a fun team to watch!
What a day to be a fair weather fan!! After a somewhat messy road trip the Bucs come back home still 11 games up. Can’t complain about that. Pedro covers the OVER today with an assist to the official scorer. Thanks to all who played. See you Friday for THREE PLAY FRIDAY!!
The lines for THREE PLAY FRIDAY will be posted on THIS THREAD no later than 8 AM on Friday. Just need one of you fair weathered souls to re-post it onto the Friday game thread for me. Thanks in advance.
