Saw the thread opened up and figured I would re-post for you.

    Line #1: OVER 100
    Line #2: UNDER 50
    Line #3: OVER 75

  6. Kevin says:

Line 1: 100 on the OVER

Line 2: 100 on the UNDER

Line 3: 100 on the OVER

    Please. And thank you.

  7. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I didn’t notice if JAL posted this link in his morning links, but its pretty good info for the Pirates divsion.

  8. @Playoffs, I don’t mean to sound like a broken record here, but I would like to go for OVER on Line #1, UNDER on Line #2, and OVER on Line #3. Thanks. Let’s Go Bucs!

  9. MarkV says:

Line 1- 50 on the OVER
Line 2- 75 on the UNDER
Line 3- 75 on the OVER

    Thanks as always!

  10. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Its smart of you and others to follow the leader, its ok.

  11. JaxBuc says:

Line 1: 100 on the OVER
Line 2: 50 on the UNDER
Line 3: 50 on the OVER

From last night’s thread, I think: No, I don’t know who Bucco_Jax is. Maybe he (or she), and JayG_in_Jax_via_New_Castle (hope I’m close on that one) and I will have to get together to watch playoff baseball together this fall and cheer on our beloved Pirates. This will be while everyone else in Jacksonville is agonizing over the Florida Gators only beating Western Carolina by 24 points instead of the expected 40.

  12. Dcpinpgh says:

    100 on all above

    Let’s go bucs

  13. JaxBuc says:

@Steve J Smith #8, you’ll need to designate a number of units to apply to your (only for fun) wagers.

  14. DemonDachshund says:

    @Playoffs –

    Line 1 – 100 OVER
    Line 2 – 100 UNDER
    Line 3 – 100 OVER

  15. cmat0829 says:

Let’s go OVER OVER OVER for 100 fake units each. Pirate bats are hot for HRs and I think they’ll get a slew of them this weekend.

  16. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Dont you dare bust on the Gators……….

  17. Bucco_Jax says:

Unfortunately, you are incorrect. I am not the person you think I am, though I am from up near Sharon. I used this handle back on the DK’s PG Blog and carried it over here, but don’t post a lot. Hopefully it won’t cause alot of issue.

  18. Mike C. says:

    Line #1: OVER 100
    Line #2: UNDER 50
    Line #3: OVER 100
    and thanx again

  19. JRay3 says:

@ Playoffs – Greetings from Tucson, AZ….interviews all day before the drive back home to hopefully catch the start of the Bucs series versus the Fish. Big game home stand ahead, time to get off on the right foot behind Kevin Correia.

    As for the lines:

    Line 1 : 100 on the OVER
Line 2: 100 on the UNDER
Line 3: 100 on the OVER

Thanks so much check back in later when things slow down.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  20. cosmo says:

    @ Playoffs

    line 1- 100 over
    line 2- 50 over
    line 3- 100 over

    thanks as always

  21. Karen22 says:

I assume Correia is pitching tonight and not Jeff Karstens, as the lineup states??

  22. @JaxBuc and Playoffs, sorry about that. 100 on each of the three. Thanks for catching that.

  23. Arriba Wilver says:

    #1. 50 on the UNDER
    #2. 100 on the UNDER
    #3. 75 on the OVER

  24. Milo66 says:

100 on the OVER Line 1

100 on the OVER Line 2

100 on the OVER Line 3

    Go Bucs!

  25. dcpfjr says:

100 on the over on all 3.

  26. Arriba Wilver says:

Other sites are still saying Nolasco v. Correia.

  27. manny _sanguine says:

    Line 1 100 Over
    LIne 2 100 Under
    Line 3 100 Over

  28. Drew71 says:

Crap. I’m in a car for three hours and I miss all the fun on the last thread.

I didn’t know it was a holy day.

    First Holy Condescension

  29. Evan says:

Lets go 100 on the over for all three.

  30. 21sthebest says:

“I’m in a car for three hours and I miss all the fun on the last thread. ”

Not sure if you’re new to following technology Drew, but they have smartphones with internet access now that you can check when you make your pit stops.

  31. Dejan Kovacevic says:

DK: Sorry, guys, about the pitchers. This actually was Sunday’s post that I put up from inside the clubhouse. It’s fixed now.

  32. LuckyNKentucky says:

Another mistake for DK. I’ll add that to his list.

  33. Drew71 says:

21, my wife also wants me to text while I drive.

    Should I worry?

  34. yinzguys says:

It was actually hard to get tickets for todays game. Almost had to got to stubhub… for the Pirates??!! Gotta believe.

  35. Drew71 says:

    Yes, Lucky.

    And tell Nate.

  36. 21sthebest says:

    Do you have life insurance?

DK: I need to get some. Seriously, I pull out that phone and look at every red light. Need to knock it off. Not worth it.

  37. RobertoForever says:

    thanks for filling in.

Love the lines. After the 0 for 8 performance of Cutch and Walker, now we have to decide if they make up for it with 2 hits apiece. Looking at their history against Nolasco, Cutch is .333 but Walker is way below the Mendoza line. I don’t see a .500 night between the two, probably Walker pulling them down. So I will go 50 on the UNDER.

6.5 HR’s for the weekend. Bucs have been banging HR’s but, rarely over 6.5 for a 3 game weekend, and almost never at PNC. Plus with the lower temps for the weekend, it will be even harder to bang it out of PNC Park. So I will go 100 on the UNDER.

1.5 wins. Whichever way I went, the results were the opposite. But I like the Bucs chance against the Ozzie-led fish. So I will go 80 on the OVER.

    Thanks again! Beat em Bucs!

  38. Drew71 says:

I didn’t notice the pitching mistake.

But I’m new to following the Pirates.

  39. LuckyNKentucky says:

Nate already knows. BTW, haven’t you and DK seen that Will Smith movie where he texts and has an accident and kills his fiance and some others? Then he donates his heart to a lady to make up for it and gets in a tub with a deadly octapus?

Do you want to be in a tub with a deadly octapus? Then get rid of cable….rather don’t text in the car.

  40. Bizrow says:

This line is easy ;-), kidding, famous last words

One hundred glowing blue nuclear nuggets on the OVAH for all three lines

  41. Drew71 says:

I haven’t had blue nuclear nuggets since a freakish dodgeball accident in junior high.

  42. radio wave says:

    at playoffs
On this Hall of Fame weekend, I need an HOF prediction to get back in the race.
I’ll follow the lead of most of the posters above:
    100 over on line 1
    100 under on line 2
    100 over on line 3.
How about a line on whether Ozzie can go the weekend without being ejected.

  43. Stuart says:

50 Pesetas on each of the lines. #s 1 and 3 will be over, while #2 will be under.

  44. Stuart says:

All, How’s the weather for the game? Raining pretty steady in DuBois, PA

  45. Bizrow says:

Drew, I’ll send you a picture of the reactor and the beautiful blue glow, Sherenkov radiation, unless Sherenkov is someone from Star Trek

  46. pattonbb says:

    Playoffs –

    line 1 – 100 UNDER
    line 2 – 100 UNDER
    line 3 – 100 OVER

  47. Drew71 says:

    Make it so.

  48. Bizrow says:

    It has been done

  49. Curt says:

Line #1: 100 on the under

Line #2: 100 on the over

    Line#3: 100 on the over

    Let’s Go Bucs!

Read little blurb from Ken Rosenthal stating Pirates are buyers, however they are looking for “low asking prices”. Sounds like we want the cheap route.
Cheap routes do not win divisions, playoff games, etc.

  50. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Big THANK YOU to Bocco_Jax for posting the line for me today. It is very much appreciated.

Fellow fair weather fans, I am here and have your (fake) wagers written down. To all of you, YOU GOT IT AND GOOD LUCK!!!

  51. Drew71 says:

  54. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Let’s Go Bucs!!

  55. Drew71 says:

Those pictures of the Dilithium Crystals are amazing.

  56. jeffsbar says:

    Line 1 – 100 Over
    Line 2 – 100 Under
    Line 3 – 100 Over

  57. Evan says:

    From Ken Rosenthal on Twitter:

Source: #Pirates close to acquiring #DBacks Justin Upton. Teams made significant progress yesterday. Centerpiece looks to be Starling Marte

    DK: Look again, Ev. Fake.

  58. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

We’ll see…But I’m in favor of Marte going if the Pirates pick up Upton.

Some kid name Josh Bell might be ready by the time the Pirates lose control of Upton.

  59. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I don’t know if anyone mentioned or not, but Hanley Ramirez is out for tonight…good news.

    DK: Whole series, actually.

  60. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    AWww, you ruined the excitement.

  61. JD says:

Playoffs – I’m in Toledo scouting Marte. I stopped in for a few beers to ready myself for this assignment.

I’m going 100 units on the over for all 3 bets. (it may be the beer talking)

I’ll try and send updates of this game, through beer goggles, of course.

  62. Mlrgenuine says:

    Live from Section 322.

    Line #1 – 50 on the OVER
    Line #2 – 50 on the UNDER
    Line #3 – 100 on the OVER

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  63. SlackBoss says:

    @playoffs – line #1 – over for 100

    Line #2 – under for 100

    Line #3 – over for 100

Good to be back home although I really enjoyed the July 8th game in the burgh.

    Let’s Go Bucs

  64. Evan says:

Thanks, DK. Saw the retweet and it looked just like the usual. Sorry everyone for the false alarm.

DK: I fell for it, too.

  65. OZ says:

    Line 1: 100 under

  66. JMB says:

    Line #1 – 100 on the OVER
    Line #2 – 100 on the OVER
    Line #3 – 100 on the OVER

  67. Milo Hamilton says:

    Line #1 – 50 Under
    Line #2 – 50 Under
    Line #3 – 100 Over

  68. Eric Bowser says:

First inning again for Correia, Jose Reyes leadoff HR……

  69. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Window is closed. Thanks to all who played. Your (fake) wagers are logged. GOOD LUCK!!

  70. Milo Hamilton says:

The typical Kevin Correia start recently has been 4 runs in 6 innings & the Pirates win 6-4. Exactly what happened last Saturday. We’ll see.

  71. twentytwo22 says:

Barajas not setting up far enough inside to those lefties.

  72. radio wave says:

Should that be an error on PA?

  73. Milo Hamilton says:

What’s the record for stolen bases in a game ?

  74. JD says:

Indy update. 1st inning. Beers still flowing.

    D’Arnaud – pop up
    Tabata – weak grounder
    Marte – K

  75. radio wave says:

    at JD #74
What brand are you drinking out there?

  76. twentytwo22 says:

3 batters in and it’s ugly baseball. That’s 7 for 7 post-break in some version of ugly. Hopefully, they can luck out another win but this is not acceptable.

  77. Milo Hamilton says:

Terrible umpiring crew, by the way.

  78. Boise Bucco says:

i need to make some “units” this weekend–

    1. 100 OVER
    2. 100 UNDER
    3. 100 OVER

  79. Boise Bucco says:

ah crap, game already started, huh…

  80. Mike Shigley says:

Well, good first inning in Altoona. Gerrit Cole – 7 pitches, 6 strikes, 1 strikeout, scoreless.

  81. Mike Shigley says:

Not so good last night in Bradenton. Taillon only went 5 2/3, but threw 98 pitches, only 57 for strikes — two walks, three strikeouts, and one earned run.

  82. Mike Shigley says:

Oh, in Toledo, Jose Tabata made two thowing errors in the first, and the MudHens lead 3-0 after one.

  83. Jay Jax Fl via New Castle says:

Looks like KC had a small strike zone in the first. By the way, tons of Pittsburgh people down here in Jax. Go to a Jags game and all you see is black and gold. Isn’t that true JaxBuc????…….good job Walker……….Let’s go Cutch!!

  84. Drew71 says:

Twenty or 21 year old kid gives up one run in 5 2/3. One run. But too many balls.

  85. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Sorry Boise, missed the window closing by about 10 minutes.

  86. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Mrs. Playoffs just mentioned she wants to go to Pittsburgh to see them on August 11th and 12th for her birthday. AMAZING!! This woman couldn’t stand baseball 4 years ago when we met. Now who’s got tix I can buy for those games :)

  87. Eric Bowser says:

    nice DP turned by Walker.

  88. JD says:

@radio – anything and everything. Right now it’s a Yuengling.

Hague had an infield single. Clement double off the wall. Both stranded.

@ Shigley, 2nd error didn’t look like it was Tabby’s fault.

  89. Mike Shigley says:

Not so good second inning in Altoona. 28 pitches for Cole, only 18 for strikes, 1 walk, and two runs (only one earned, because of two errors behind him).

  90. Mike Shigley says:

@88. Sorry, all I have is Gameday. I will always defer in that case to an eyewitness.

  91. Boise Bucco says:

eh, it’s ok, I’ll make it up next week.

  92. Bizrow says:

Just like sometimes its the trades you don’t make

Bets are pretty much the same

  93. JD says:

@ Shigley – it was actually a great running catch with his back turned to the plate. He turned and threw to 2nd. It glanced off SS glove with nobody backing up. 3rd baseman was near pitchers mound, so runner on 2nd easily advanced to 3rd.

  94. Mike Shigley says:

@93 Thanks. Much more like him.

  95. Mike Shigley says:

Cole is back up. In the third, only 8 pitches, 7 for strikes — and, no runs.

  96. Arriba Wilver says:

Biz— I wouldn’t take that from Drew. Number 1 was a woman.

  97. Milo Hamilton says:

Dale Scott is the only competent umpire of the 4.

  98. JD says:

    2nd at bat:

    Tabata – ground out
    Marte – HBP

  99. JRay3 says:

Just getting in and see another stolen base that does not garner a throw, that has to stop! Too many K’s early in the game by the hitters have to put the ball in play.

KC seems to be his usual self…battling out there to keep team in the game, big to get out of third striking out the side….time for some offense!

  100. Bizrow says:

    AW, its Star Trek

    Fantasy ;-)

  101. Arriba Wilver says:

Biz—not to Drew. He was calling you a girl.

  102. Bizrow says:

No big deal, he’s called me much worse

  103. Bizrow says:

Crap, get Correia out of there

  104. Arriba Wilver says:

    Good point, Biz.

  105. JRay3 says:

Two strike safety squeeze for a run, that hurts.

  106. DemonDachshund says:

Could someone please declare the game to be over? I’d like the comeback to start soon.

  107. Eric Bowser says:

love that HR swing Pedro, 3-2 Marlins

  108. JRay3 says:

#20 for El Toro as Pedro golfs one out back within one!! go Bucs!

  109. Milo Hamilton says:

Pedro Alvarez has 20 homeruns, and I thought he should spend the entire season in Indianapolis. Another one to add to the list.

  110. Arriba Wilver says:

And he doesn’t even look like he’s swinging hard.

  111. Bizrow says:

20 dingers for Pedro, who’da thunk that was coming

  112. Arriba Wilver says:

    Milo– me, too.

  113. JRay3 says:

Have to love the production we are getting from the catching position offensively, now if they just add throwing out runners to the mix.

  114. Eric Bowser says:

All these HRs would be even more productive if the team’s OBP was better.

  115. Eric Bowser says:

Barmes clutch and Barrajas scores from 2B on that hit? HA HA

  116. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Here’s a weird thing to get your head around. I was looking over the hitting stats last night and noticed that no Pirate pitcher has hit an extra base hit this year. It is long overdue.

  117. JRay3 says:

Clint Barmes with the RBI single…let’s keep the rumors of adding a SS out there.

  118. Drew71 says:

Arriba. Will Riker is Number One. Will. Short for William.

  119. Bizrow says:

Barajas scored from second on a single??

  120. Arriba Wilver says:

    Correia is a Pro.

  121. Bizrow says:

To be honest, I couldn’t remember a female on Star Trek being No. 1

But then, I can’t remember what I had for lunch today, scabetti???

  122. JRay3 says:

@ Demon – #106 was this soon enough?

  123. Bizrow says:

    EYE balling them right now

  124. Drew71 says:

in that context, you better spell it that way

  125. Arriba Wilver says:

Drew–check out the Pilot. Majel Barrett, the future Mrs. Gene Roddenberry and Nurse Chapel, played “Number One.”. Don’t mess with me on the original Star Trek. I saw the first runs. :-)

  126. Kevin says:

Etc. ad naseum (sp?)…don’t get to watch, but do ya’ll get the feeling that the rest of the season is going to be a dog fight?? Like what I’ve seen, like the attitude, but it’s gonna be a struggle…

  127. DemonDachshund says:

The Marlins broadcast just explained the Zoltan Z… But the woman doing the explanation did it backwards, right hand on top.

Zoltan needs to strike the Fish down in punishment.

  128. Arriba Wilver says:

    But wait, that wasn’t your intent . . .

  129. DemonDachshund says:

    @JRay3 –

    Yes, that will do nicely.

Going to assume someone started to type it out just as Pedro launched his shot, and then just neglected to post it.

  130. Drew71 says:

don’t make me go trivia on you.

In the context of referring to him as Number One, AND saying Picard’s catch phrase Make it so, it could ONLY have been a reference to Riker.

Yes, Mrs Gene was also referred to as Number One, before Riker. But the phrase Make It So?

Don’t make me start quoting the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition.

    Because I will.

  131. Pig Legs Robinson says:

I was wondering when the last time was that the the Pirates had 2 of the top 3 homerun leaders in the NL this late in a season. I’m guessing that the Bonds-Bonilla years may have seen this, but I doubt it. Even back when Willie Stargell was bombing the NL back in the early 70’s, (led league with 48 & 43 in ’71 & ’73) he didn’t have any teamates as close his high totals.

  132. Drew71 says:

#3 Never pay more for an acquisition than you have to.

I never new Neal was a Ferengi.

    But he is short.

    And look at the ears.

  133. JMB says:

  134. JRay3 says:

The Pittsburgh Kid goes yard and the Bucs take the lead!

  135. DemonDachshund says:

4-3 and the OVER wins, I believe.

  136. Drew71 says:

#261 A wealthy man can afford anything except a conscience.

    #266 When in doubt, lie.

    Frank too!

  137. Pig Legs Robinson says:

If you want to se a ferengi, google a picture of former tigers second baseman Carlos Guillen. That guy is definitely ferengi material.

Way to go, New Age Lumber Company!

  138. JD says:

Not sure if anyone cares, but last time up:

    D’Arnaud – double, picked off 2nd
Tabata – double off the wall in center
    Marte – flyout deep center

Still down 3-0. Beers still good.

    DK: Appreciated!

  139. JRay3 says:

@ Pig Legs – I do know that I looked up the other day that the last time the Pirates has two guys with 30+ HR’s was ’01 when Giles and Ramirez did it.

  140. JRay3 says:

@ JD – thx for update.

  141. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Ricky Nolasco used to own the Pirates, but is not your father’s Pirates. Not the team he used to own, at least.

  142. Pig Legs Robinson says:

I knew that about Giles & Ramirez, but that was during the steroids years so I doubt very much that either were among the top 3 leaders in the NL at any time that year. Guys were hitting 50 back then.

  143. Drew71 says:

#203 New customers are like razortoothed grubworms. They can be succulent, but sometimes they can bite back.

    Ah. That would be Rose.

  144. Arriba Wilver says:

Very happy to lose 50 on line #1.

  145. DemonDachshund says:

@Pig Legs – tells me that in 1990, Bonds hit 33 (T-4th NL) and Bonilla hit 32(T-6th).

In ’78, Parker hit 30 (3rd NL) and Stargell hit 28(T-5th NL)

Giles made it up to 9th once, but I’m giving up at this point and saying it’s been awhile.

  146. Bizrow says:

    Yinz are nutz

Lets get a few more runs?

  147. LuckyNKentucky says:

I thought Pedro needed mental counselling. Maybe he got it.

  148. Drew71 says:

Washington ahead 9-2 and Stephen Strasburg on his way to win #11.

So. If he was a Pirate. Indy or Altoona?

I think Indy. Up in September.

  149. DemonDachshund says:

Reds up 3-0 on Milwaukee in the 8th.

    That game is over.

  150. Drew71 says:

(and the poster formerly known a Hopester would be ranting now)

  151. JMB says:

Who is plenty of hope now?

  152. Pig Legs Robinson says:

I wasn’t convinced the Pirates should lock up Neil Walker to a long term deal this spring when Cutch was signed and people were calling for him too. Now though I have to say that it’s looking like a very good idea. This year he has certainly come into his own and is making the case for himself. That is really what I wanted to see first before they dove headlong into it.

  153. Drew71 says:

  154. JMB says:

    Ah, thanks Drew

  155. Bizrow says:

With Strasburg, it will be interesting to see if and when they shut him down

And once you shut him down, it would be pretty bad to panic and try to start him back up again this season.

  156. Milo Hamilton says:

Funny, the more games the Pirates win the more I’m convinced the Nats should shut down Strasburg.

  157. cosmo says:

    @ Pig Legs

I agree with you about Walker. Lock him up. Funny though when he first came up,he was projected as a utility infielder. Then Aki had that miserable 2 months and
as they say the rest is history.

  158. Arriba Wilver says:

Rose– if you’re out there, I don’t know if you follow the Pirates, or if you “get” Drew, but it’s not exactly a state secret he can be incorrigible, so know that his reference to you was meant as a high compliment. He’d be easier to figure out if he used smileys. And I’m confident that I am correct about his intent.

  159. Drew71 says:

And Joey Votto. Shut him down too.

  160. DemonDachshund says:

Whoa, cardboard cutout sighting at shortstop!

  161. cosmo says:

The invisible man has just made an appearance !!!

  162. Drew71 says:

    I know what I meant.

  163. Bizrow says:

And make sure you drug test Ryan Braun

This time though, take your procedure with you and FOLLOW THE DAM thing

    Just sayin

  164. cosmo says:

    @ Demon

Is that Mercer or Hasselhoff ???

  165. Bizrow says:

    Need some insurance

  166. Mike Shigley says:

    And Hughes saves them again!!!

  167. DemonDachshund says:

Can’t say I understand the double switch there. Isn’t Grilli coming in for the 8th anyways? Seems like you could have kept Barmes in the lineup and just pinch hit for Hughes this inning.

  168. DemonDachshund says:

I guess MCC does need his weekly at bat.

  169. Mike Shigley says:

Another mediocre outing for Cole in Altoona: 5 1/3 innings, 5 strikeouts, 3 walks, 3 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), and only 57/87 pitches for strikes. Rain delay middle of 6th (don’t know how they got far as hard as the rain has been) with Curve trailing at home 3-0.

  170. Milo Hamilton says:

If they bring Grilli in for the 8th, that double switch makes no sense.

  171. Bizrow says:

Who is that guy that got the double

    Did we make a trade?

  172. JD says:

Marte just scorched a double off the LF wall and scored on Clement single.

  173. cosmo says:

    Nice AB by Presley

  174. Milo Hamilton says:

    He’s well rested.

  175. Jandy says:

So Jordy Mercer gets a double…who’s gonna hit him in????

  176. Jandy says:

  177. JRay3 says:

Can we please get a bunt down.

  178. Jandy says:

    Intentional walk for Cutch lol

  179. JMB says:

And so it begins…make’em pay GFJ!

  180. cosmo says:

Just flashed a note on ROOT, Cutch and Pedro the first duo in Pirates history to have 20 HRS thru 92 games.

  181. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Come on, don’t leave poor Jordy out there, bring him home!

  182. twentytwo22 says:

Presley never walks, never looks to walk… until he is in an obvious SAC bunt situation. GJ

  183. Eric Bowser says:

that at-bat by Presley was enough for me to scream for Juan Pierre, better hitter and fielder.

  184. Arriba Wilver says:

    Some yanking going on.

  185. Eric Bowser says:

@Arriba – I’d be yanking Presley, dude cannot fail in that spot.

  186. Bizrow says:

  187. Arriba Wilver says:

Shouldn’t have even been close. That was on Garrett.

  188. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Good work on the numbers, DemonDachsund.
With Cosmo’s latest, it looks like they may NEVER have had 2 of the top 3 HR hitters in the leaders stats.
    Whatever, it looks very nice.

  189. Jandy says:

  190. Bizrow says:

Now, as Clint doesn’t like to bring in Grilli except to start the inning off

Mr Hughes, time to step up and getter done

  191. cosmo says:

Trade for a corner outfielder and put Presley where he belongs, 4th or 5th outfielder

  192. JRay3 says:

So Marte would not be a better fit in LF? After seeing that we need a corner OF to add to the mix.

Time for Grilli to get back on track…last two outings have been rough.

  193. Bizrow says:

Grilli is in? Then why the double switch?

  194. Bizrow says:

Doesn’t matter, lets get the W here

  195. JRay3 says:

Walker with the bat, check, Walker with the glove, check!!

  196. Eric Bowser says:

Pirates get a big break there, Walker wasn’t even close on the tag.

  197. Jandy says:

    Nice, Walker!

  198. cosmo says:

Great play by Walker, with an assist to the second base ump. Makes up for the missed caught stealing in the first.

  199. Arriba Wilver says:

Wow, looks like Walker sold that. Hey, we are owed a few.

  200. twentytwo22 says:

The Pirates bullpen is great and extremely gutty with men on base. Doubly impressive.

  201. twentytwo22 says:

    3 weak at-bats there.

  202. JRay3 says:

OK time for save #27 Joel….Hammer time…let’s finish this.

  203. Drew71 says:

That wasn’t Meals who made that call, was it?

  204. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Rod is on another of his HR binges. I bet he’ll knock a few more in the next bunch of games. He is very streaky with the hard hits. I used to take him every year in fantasy leagues because of that. You just be patient during his droughts, and he’ll reward you.
When it’s all said & done by September, he’ll be among the upper tier of catchers in HR’s .

  205. Pig Legs Robinson says:

    Barajas, that is.

  206. JMB says:

Another Mad Capper night for Hanny.

  207. Jandy says:

    ::double sigh::

  208. Eric Bowser says:

another Mike Williams inning for Hanrahan

  209. Milo Hamilton says:

This is an easy steal for them if they want it.

  210. Boise Bucco says:

  211. Milo Hamilton says:

Wegner is the ump Hawk Harrelson flipped out on.

  212. JMB says:

  213. Pig Legs Robinson says:

  214. JRay3 says:

Kevin Correia goes five gritty innings to earn his seventh win of the year as the Bucs battle back from a 3-1 deficit to down the fish 4-3 behind power hitting from Alvarez and Walker and there was nooooooooooo doubt about it. With the win the Pirates are now a season best 12 games above .500.

The Bucs will go for the series win tomorrow with AJ Burnett taking the mound.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  215. Jandy says:

    Raise it!!!!

  216. Milo Hamilton says:

That’s why those guys make so much money. And why you don’t trade them.

  217. Arriba Wilver says:

    That was impressive.

  218. Bizrow says:

Well, I was nervous about that one, imagine if we were in a pennant race?

  219. Jandy says:

    Biz, you’re sounding like Drew and Milo, you been hangin out with those guys??? ;

  220. JD says:

Top of 9th, runner on 3rd, 1 out:

    d’Arnoud – K
Tabata – clutch RBI single on 3-2 count
Marte – fly out to warning track

Marte looks good, but I can see why mgmt is still waiting.

    Go Bucs! (more beer please)

  221. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Once again the pitching was strong enough but they really clubbed their way to this win. It really is the New Age Lumber Company.

  222. Eric Bowser says:

12-games over with 70 to play, it’s going to happen.

  223. cosmo says:

What is really amazing to me is that Cutch has 22 HR’S and he didn’t hit any in April.

  224. Drew71 says:

    Kevin Correia.

For all the angst he seems to generate here, I think that in the perspective of a FIFTH starter, they could do a whole lot worse.

Most teams do in their five spot.

Don’t over-read that. Not comparing him to an ace or the third starter. Just to whoever most teams have at the BACK of their rotation.

  225. Drew71 says:

    Now as for Bedard…

  226. JRay3 says:

    @ Drew71- agreed

  227. Pig Legs Robinson says:

That IS amazing. There are some very interesting stats going on with this season’s Pirates. I spend most of my Winter’s studying baseball-reference .com stats & transactions through Pirates history. This year is adding a familiar and also new story.

I like to study the trends among years for Pirate teams and I see many similarities in individual stats from those major-turning point years.

  228. RobertoForever says:

Correia has now won 5 straight decisions. Tonight was his shortest outing, but he goes 5-6 innings and generally does give up runs, but usually 2 or 3. Season high 5 K’s tonight.

That’s a very consistent effort from a 4 or 5 starter. You know what you get. Solid consistent outings. Bats a little ineffective tonight, but scratched out 4 runs from 4 different spots. It will do for a 3 game winning streak. Bucs win again in front of another sellout.

Oh and for those who complain about Barmes, he has 1 more RBI then Jose Reyes (25 to 24).

  229. twentytwo22 says:

I’ve noticed McCutchen jumping at the ball and rolling over on balls more since he hit that long LF HR.

  230. RobertoForever says:

Pirates are now 8-2 in sellouts at PNC Park this year. And the only promotion tonight was free t-shirt night. Hardly what would cause people swarm a ballpark.

Bucs increase their MAJOR-LEAGUE-LEADING home record to 30-14. That’s a 2-1 chance to see a win if you make it out to the stadium. Oh, and there’s a great view of dahntawn that might have you subconsciously supporting the United Way or the Red Cross.

  231. Dejan Kovacevic says:

DK: What makes the Pirates’ bullpen one of baseball’s best?

Beyond a right-handed closer striking out lefties with the game on the line?

Beyond a 2.63 ERA that’s second only to the Reds in the majors?

Beyond opponents batting .220 against them?

Beyond the team being 41-1 when leading after six innings?

Get this: The Pirates’ relievers have allowed only 17.3 percent of inherited runners to score, best in the majors. Jared Hughes has allowed just ONE of 17 to score.

They pick each other up, too.

  232. LuckyNKentucky says:

Thought that sounded like Sulia talking. Lo and behold…..

DK: Yeah, just saving you guys the trouble. You’re special.

  233. Jandy says:

    The Power of Zoltan!

  234. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Correia has seemed more shaky than he actually is. He usually gives up a few runs but is good at keeping the team always within striking distance. The hitters have done their part to make it all work out. I think if they were to add another starter at this point, Bedard would be out of the rotation. I still hold out hope for him to figure things out though. I hope they will add a good bat or two first & foremost.

  235. twentytwo22 says:

The one ball I can think of that McCutchen hit hard to the middle was the long fly ball to center Wednesday in Colorado. The same type of ball he hit HR to RF in Milwaukee. Not quite staying inside the ball. Still got 2 hits tonight. The ground single between SS and 3B in his next to last at-bat was good though.

  236. twentytwo22 says:

    Look at this bizarro boxscore

    2B – Z Cozart (22), J Bruce (23), S Rolen (8)
    HR – Z Cozart (10), J Bruce (19), S Rolen (4)
    RBI – Z Cozart (20), J Bruce (58), S Rolen (19)

  237. DemonDachshund says:

This is why I don’t get the Maholm talk.

I have no issue with getting a true upgrade and pushing Bedard or Correia to long relief, but Maholm basically is those guys, without KC’s knack for pitching just well enough to win.

If you can get a true #1, #2, #3 type, fine, do it. But Maholm isn’t that, and everyone knows that.

  238. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Yeah, I don’t get the desire to bring Maholm back either. I hope some other team grabs him just so the Pitrates don’t make the mistake of getting him.

  239. Pig Legs Robinson says:

Lincoln would be better than Maholm. Unless they think Lincoln is getting traded. Even then I’d try Rudy Owens or maybe even Chris Leroux first.

  240. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Big THANK YOU again to Bucco_Jax for re-posting the line for me this evening. Your assistance is much appreciated.

On a night in Pittsburgh where the weather was anything but fair, the Bucs win again. Both Walker and McCutchen get 2 hits each, and the OVER wins. Thanks to all who played. See all my fair weather friends tomorrow.

    Drew double rbi run
    Upton 2-run HR to RF

If Washington loses the Reds are 1 back, Pirates 1.5 for NL best record… I think

  242. twentytwo22 says:

One more, that fake Rosenthal tweet ruined my afternoon.

  243. Pig Legs Robinson says:

I was thinking maybe the Cubs are dangling Alfonso Soriano with them paying most of his salary but insisting the Pirates take Maholm & his remaining salary off their hands to do it.
Then in that case, I’d take Maholm. maybe I would have him in the current Lincoln role of relieving and spot starting, but If Soriano could be had for a cheap price, I’d take the deal.

  244. Arriba Wilver says:

Maholm? Been there, done that . . . pass.

  245. Playoffs by 2012 says:

If the Pirates can find a way to win 41 or more games on the road, they take the division.

  246. Drew71 says:

Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but it seems to be that the only reason they would consider Maholm is if they believe that Bedard is finished. And that Lincoln must only be a reliever.

    Ok. That’s two reasons.

  247. Thundercrack says:

    I agree Arriba, regarding Maholm.

Nice guy. But I know what will happen if he came back.
In his first start he’ll go 7.1 innings and get a no decision….and we’ll end up losing.

In his second start he’ll give up 6 runs in 3 innings….and I’ll storm the offices at Federal Street.

  248. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I missed most of the game…..

Does anybody re-read the comments here…freakin hilarious.

Start from the top down and you can tell what happens in the game, besides the play-by-play stuff.

It goes from GET CORREIA OUTTA THERE TO………Corriea’s a pro.

What I tell my baseball players, one pitch at a time, whether you’re pitching, hitting, or in the field.

    Game changes that fast.

  249. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Not to tute my own horn, but I believe I was one that said Pedro needed to stay up and he will be productive……

    I do know SOME things……..

  251. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

whoa, whoa, whoa…….I don’t know who’s up and logged in here, probably just me but…….ESPN just showed the Pirates highlights, talked about Walker’s whiff on the double play and said “when you’re AMERICA’S team you get those calls!”

Did I just hear that #@$% right??

Won 19 of the last 23 at home BTW

Place was packed, loved seeing that.

  252. manny _sanguine says:

America’s team – I heard that too. Maybe some day they’ll make a movie about these Prodigious Pirates – beloved like Seabiscuit – bringing hope to the downtrodden masses.

  253. CJ says:

Perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself but am I the only one that thinks the WC playoff game is complete bullquirt? In what other professional sporting playoff (sans NFL) is there a one and done situation? It’s not that I am against the whole second wild card scenario, what I am saying is give both teams a fighting chance. Make it best of three. If that adds a few days to the playoffs, so be it. It’s not like MLB doesn’t mind having their playoffs extend into November anyways, what difference does 2 or 3 days make? One of the WC playoff teams is going to lose and all that teams’ fans are going to be hung out to dry. All they will be able to say is “at least we made the playoffs”. Not exactly. In professional baseball, advancing in the playoffs requires a team to win a SERIES, not a game. Maybe commish Bud should have considered all of the ramifications when he enacted this cash grab in the first place. I’d really like to hear DK’s thoughts on this matter.

  254. Arriba Wilver says:

It’ll be called “Zoltan’s Revenge.” (Or will that be the sequel?)

  255. Drew71 says:

Is Zoltan at risk of becoming the new Macarena?

Give it another year, and you’ll only see it with 11 year old girls at birthday parties?

And grandmas and great aunts at weddings?

  256. Drew71 says:

    Thunder just called.

I had no idea he was so passionate about the Macarena.

  257. LuckyNKentucky says:

Looks like you didn’t take your wife’s advice and text while you drove. You’re still alive. Good to see that.

America’s team. Right. This is still America down here and the only Pirate they know about are the ones in Somolia. I like being taken for granted. That way, they still pitch to Cutch and take all the pitching for granted. Then, when we make the playoffs, I can start wearing my Pirate garb and people will say. Who or what are the “Buccos”? And what is “Raise the Jolly Roger”?

  258. Bizrow says:

RE – bringing hope to the downtrodden masses

They are, we’ve been the downtrodden masses for coming on 20 years…..

  259. Thundercrack says:

‘You’re still alive. Good to see that.’

    Speak for yourself.

  260. LuckyNKentucky says:

As Gomer Pyle used to say “what a mean thang, what a mean thang to say”.

  261. Drew71 says:

anybody know to take down a smiley face?

take it down or we will.

  262. Drew71 says:

    Thank you Lucky.

You’re a gentleman and a decent, moral man.

Now beat the crap out of him.
