Thanks!
Going deep tonight (and not just over the Clemente wall). AJ deep into the game. 100 on the over, please!
Freudian slip by 24/7. He called Juan Cruz “juan crud” on Twitwell. Must have taken lessons from some ornery bloggers. Cruz goes on the DL and he’s called a crud. Evan Meek will get his chance. He’s been throwing well for Indy and will get a chance to prove Milo right–that he’ll make a difference for the Bucs.
Playoffs, 100 of those blue nuclear dilitium crystals on the OVAH pleez
Although, I would gladly take an 88 pitch shutout

100 on the OVER
This one seems too easy, so I’ll probably be wrong.
25 on the over, please
Playoffs—50 on the UNDER, please. Tough line as usual. A J threw only 82 in his last outing in Mil, in 7 innings. Half the time he’s over, Half the time he’s under.

100 on the OVER please.
@Playoffs-
100 on the UNDER.
Thank you.
Uh, thanks for freaking me out.
Its 4:30 pm and I just thought I’d see what the latest blog entry has and see that the game is scheduled here for 1:05 start, meaning I’ve already missed the whole game. Agghhhhh!!!!
Quick check of my trusty ESPN boxscores and my breathing is brought back under control as I see the game hasn’t actually started and it is not until 7:05 pm like I’d originally thought.
Ya might want to change that start time there.
1:35 pm start listed here, actually.
100 on the OVER
Go Bucs!
@ Playoffs- Good afternoon what a perfect day for the Bucs to go for another series win and their fourth straight victory.
Well an interesting line tonight. I agree with @ Ryan at first glance this looks easy so it needed a little further inspection. After a string of six consecutive games where Burnett threw 100+ pitches he actually has gone through a stretch where he has failed to get to the 100 pitch mark in four of his last six starts. Clint has seemed to be carious with their big arm all year and just building back up from the break in his second start could factor in as well.
Going against my initial thought here and will go 100 on the UNDER.
Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs!
Buccos are 13-2 in Saturday games, and 8-0 on Saturday home games.
Pirates are also 8-2 in sellouts, 19-4 in the last 23 games at PNC. Somehow the line is only -130 for the Bucs.
Pirates also have 27 comeback wins this season, 2nd in the majors. So no one should panic if the Pirates get down in a game.
McCutchen is only 1 HR away from his career high in HR’s. He has also homered 6 times in the last 8 games.
Rosenthal thinks we should get the Flyin’ Hawaiian and partner him up w. Marte & Cutch in the OF.
I’d take him if he is easier acquirable for 2nd or 3rd tier prospects.
He also mentions HanRam, and there is no way I see that happening.

@playoffs – playng the averages tonight – 100 on the UNDER
Let’s Go Bucs!
Steve Pearce has been DFA’d
Not that its a surprise or anything
Dejan,
I saw that KISS opened its new tour Thursday night in the Virginia suburbs of D.C.
They are also selling an officially band sponsored roll of KISS toilet paper on the tour.
I can’t understand how a classy group like that is not in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame!
100 on the over.
I noticed I am back to even, need to make a run or I might become a seller at the trade deadline.
MLB Traderumors says Marlins might be willing to trade Hanley Ramirez. I know that the cost would be alot to snag him, but that would be awesome!
100 on the over
please and thank you.

55 shekels on the Over
Stuart66
The guy I want off the Marlins is Giancarlo Stanton.
I’d even wait for him to come off the Disabled List if Pirates could get him. A bopper from the right side would look mighty good before/after Pedro.
Playoffs
Now that my computer virus has been healed (I hope) with an injection of steroids, I might be back in action.
Let me have the UNDER 99.5 for AJ, for 50. I’m looking for a complete game W for him.
Thank you
Cruz to the DL, Meek up to replace him
I was at the game in Balmer when Pearce had 5 RBI against us. Why couldn’t they have DFA’d him before that fiasco?
@Playoffs
A big 100 on the OVER, please.
Let’s Go Bucs!
Jose Cruz has allowed 17 of 37 first batters to reach base.
Convenience List couldn’t have come at a better time!!
100 Under! Thanks!
@playoffs
50 on the OVER pls
Thanks
Playoffs –
Wow, only someone that hasn’t been paying attention would play the under tonight. On that note –
100 units on the UNDER please.
Hopefully, my own personal mid-season slide will be the only one we see this year……
Lets Go Bucs!!
Playoffs –
100 on the OVER please. And thank you.
Evan Meek was the best reliever on a bad team two years ago. So what? Since the Pirates got good Meek has been one of their worst relievers. Earlier in the year he was sent to the minors for two weeks. The day he was recalled the Pirates were rallying in Washington to make the game 4-3 when they put Meek in. He gave up 3 runs and that was his only game. He shouldn’t be used in any important situations. We don’t need this guy costing us games. I don’t trust him in any big spot. He lost his 8th inning job on a .500 team because he couldn’t handle the pressure. This team is much better than that one.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WAS/WAS201205160.shtml
This kind of overcast weather usually brings lots of homeruns out. If the weather here is like the weather in Philly, where the Phils & Giants have combined to hit 6 homers today already (including from both starting pitchers, Cain & Hamels), we could be in for a crazy one.
I’m just hoping they all come from the good guys.
Well, if a reliever gave up 3 runs at some point in his career, he certainly has no business in the majors.
Evan ‘I was great for a 100 loss team’ Meek will be the next Pirate with a stigma to be released to find a fresh start following Daniel ‘I should have been Matt Wieters’ Moskos. A rookie like Bryan Morris is worth a shot to see what he can do while waiting for Cruz to get healthy.
Looking at 52-40 reminds me of the “old” days my fellow fair weather fans.
Playoffs – I had a triumphant day on the links today and I expect the same from the Bucs. Once again, it’s probably the beer talking, I’ll take 100 on the over.
Go Bucs!
@Playoffs, I would like to go 100 on the OVER for tonight. Letz Go Bucz!!
@playoffs
50 on the under please!
@Playoffs
I’ll take 50 on the UNDER.
Thanks as always!
@Playoffs.
Burnett has been bouncing back and forth of your line of 99.5 pitches over his last 4 outings, but has been under in 4 of his last 6 starts.
Miami has only forced a starting pitcher over 99.5 pitches in 2 of their last 10 games. There are a lot of factors, of course, including weather and a team’s batting approach against the pitcher.
I think I wil go with the UNDER on the line tonight for 75 units. AJ is efficient and takes less pitches to get through his 7 IP.
Beat em Bucs!
When a two-hopper bounds past your shortstop – realize then that he has no range
good start for Pirates, Marlins have to be frustrated with another stranded runner in scoring position.
That’s the way to start off an inning Alex see a lot of pitches and earn a walk, lead off guy on base.
Good piece of hitting by Walker taking the pitch where it was thrown than hustling to get a double…time for an early crooked number here.
Hello! Is this thing on?
Everyone must be at the game tonight.
They need to take advantage of these walks and defensive miscues by the fish.
Jandy is at the curve tonite. Doubleheader. Curve wins 1st game 5-1
Score?
1-1 after 3
Leavin’ a lot of baserunners stranded…not good
Thanks!
Boise no it’s not good
I’ll check in later!
Jandy – nice curves (I hope).
If Burnett runs he should have been on second after Buck overthrew on that bunt attempt. 2-1 good guys with the aid of the fish. 1st and 3rd with no out. The two guys that reached were hit by pitches, though Barmes would have walked as it was ball four anyway. Come on top of the order!!
Haha Barmes’ elbow didn’t want to take the chance that that wasn’t gonna be a ball 4…
Bases loaded with no out for Neil Walker. Come on Neil!!
YESSS
For anyone not watching, AJ laid down a sac bunt, the throw to first went wide and Barajas scored. 2-1 Buccos!
HERE WE GOOOO
Sac fly for Walker. 3-1 Bucs. 1st and 2nd with 1 out for Cutch.
Bases loaded again. The two runs in this inning are the result of 2 HBP, 2 Walks, an error, and a sac fly. Come on Jonesy!
I love when we get under Zambranos skin!!
Jones swings at ball four for strike two. Full count with bases juiced.
Walked in the fourth run. 4-1 Bucs with just one out and NO hits in the inning. Time to get to their pen.
did the Bucs even get a hit in that inning? 3 walks and to HBP’s. Still only 1 out.
Three runs and not a single hit, wow good patience being shown tonight, now can the Brewers help us out,
Gaudin has Duke-like numbers. .293 BA against.
Another walk leads to a 5-1 lead now.
make that four runs without a hit, just unreal….certainly will take the gifts.
Wow, the umps are NOT doing any favors to the Marlins pitchers. Oh well, it’s good to be at home!
Still NO hits in the inning, come on Pedro!!
1 big swing by Pedro and PNC Park will probably explode.
Strike 3 to Pedro was a gift from the ump to the fish. inch or two outside. He has given some pitches outside to Zambrano during the game, so I don’t think it is on us.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a crappier 4-run inning…that should’ve been about 10.
I don’t want to get greedy, but c’mon, not even one hit.
Rod K’s while half swinging at a Ball WAY outside. Way to much of that this season. After 4 innings the Bucs are up 5-1. Also, Zambrano was just that bad at pitching tonight. He got some calls early in the game but just wasn’t close enough most of the time to get the umps benefit of the doubt. Nice patience until Pedro and Rod’s at bats. They got a little greedy at that point.
Baseball is fun.
Who knew?
Cincy leading the brewers 4-2 in the top of the 6th.
Call Elias
What is the record for most runs in an inning without a hit?
@Steve-
That may be true about earlier in the game. I was just looking at pitch f/x which showed that the ball 4′s for both Walker and Jones were firmly in the strike zone.
Seems like when a guy is wild, it puts hitters back on their heels. Like the guys that pitch no-hitters and walk 7 or 8. Still, 4 runs and no hits, not bad.
To be fair to Pedro, they showed the 3rd strike on the pitch tracker on the Marlins broadcast… You know how the plate is 3 squares wide? If you added a 4th square on the outside of the plate, the pitch STILL would have been a few inches outside.
Holy crap it’s a hit
Neverett just mentioned that the last ones to score 4 or more in an inning without a hit were the 1998 A’s.
Cutch having an off night tonight with two swinging Ks.
Watching the Marlins’ broadcast. About every three minutes they mention how the Marlins have outhit the Bucs, 5 to 4, as if that makes the5-1 score easier to accept.
Baseball is a beautiful game.
AJ at 91 pitches through 7 innings, and he has been really efficient.
Burnett at 91 pitches thru 7…If he comes back out for the 8th the OVER is lookin’ pretty good.
There’s the OVER.
Going out on a limb here…what’s the best trade we could make at this point? I fully realize a bat and another arm would be ideal, but what’s out there and what do we give up? This team has found a way ALL season…
Just another great outing by AJ Burnett and so awesome to see the crowd and their reaction to him, the love affair continues.
The Burnett trade is gonna go down as the trade that cements Huntingdon’s legacy…who else in baseball gets a standing o every time he leaves the mound.
Cincy up now 6-2 on the drunks from Milwaukee.
Lincoln just earned himself one each AJ fistpump
Who is this Jody Mercer kid?
@ Kevin #96
I think Upton might be the guy coming real soon. Have no idea what pitcher might be coming though.
Two things…did I lose on the over/under? (probably)
@ Gunner –
I would take Dempster (not likely), Garza (maybe) or Shields (hope to see it).
What would you be willing to give up for Upton?
I see the Cubs are going to be primed to come to PNC this week. They have given up a 12 spot to St. Louis in the 7th inning along.
@ Kevin #103
I think it’s gonna be a blockbuster deal. Marte will definitely be involved, possibly Lincoln, and another prospect or two. I still can’t believe Nutting is willing to pay Upton. But, I think Nutcase is going to bite the bullet and spend the moolah.
Matt Garza came out of that game after 3. He only threw 33 pitches with no runs, 2 hits, 2 walks. Wonder if he’s been traded.
Brad Lincoln deserves a lot of kudos for the job he has done this year bouncing from pen to rotation to pen and he looks fierce tonight with his stuff.
@Lucky
No – he is injured. Had x-rays on for cramping in his right triceps
You can raise it tonight! 13 games over .500. 1/2 game behind the Reds. Going to sweep the fish tomorrow!
Grand.
RAISE IT!
Don’t worry about the Reds. Just keep winning and things will work out.
We had ‘em all the way!!!!!
Behind 7.2 innings strong innings from AJ Burnett who earns his 11th win of the season the Bucs take game two of the series with the fish 5-1 and there was noooooooo doubt about it.
The win improves the Bucs to a season best 13 games above .500 and have won four straight and will look for their first five game win streak of the season and a sweep of the fish tomorrow afternoon when Jeff Karstens takes the hill for the Bucs.
Let’s Go Bucs!
TDB,
Thanks. His name has come up a lot in rumors.
I cannot wait to go to the game tomorrow. The place is going to be electric.
A lot of bad at-bats by the Pirates the last two games and yet they’ve scored 9 runs and won both.
Another season series win sewn up for the Pirates. One more game on Sunday to put Miami (3-1) in the books.
Colorado 4-2 .667
Cleveland 2-1 .667
Minnesota 2-1 .667
Washington 3-2 .600
Philadelphia 4-3 .571
San Francisco 3-3 .500
Detroit 3-3 .500
Baltimore 0-3 .000
Stacking them one at a time.
oops
*Kansas City 3-0 1.000
@ TDB – bring your broom and enjoy the game and atmosphere and bring us a W!
The Reds made Yovani Gallardo throw 109 pitches in 5.2 innings. 41 balls 68 strikes. The Pirates have to go to school on that guy and have better at-bats. I think they will.
Not my fault, CBS’ 111 pitches 43 balls 68 strikes.
you know, in all our conversations…not to get too far ahead of ourselves here…but we may be able to soon say we are going to have a plus .500 season. this plus 13 games is really good stuff and is a nice cushion in the remaining games. we are all getting a little giddy (me included), but i feel pretty good about a “winning season”. As Drew said in #112 …just keep winning and the rest will work out.
Pirates improve their record in Saturday games to 14-2 in Saturday games, and 9-0 on Saturday home games.
Buccos are also 9-2 in sellouts, 20-4 in the last 24 games at PNC. Some amazing numbers there. The Pirates now have the MOST wins at home in the Majors, more than the Yankees. Also have the best home record on the season at 31-14. Outstanding.
Line 3 is locked up as an OVER. Keep winning 2 of 3 and good things will happen.
Line 2 is now 4.5 HR tomorrow, if my math is correct.
Good numbers, RF.
thanks for the good info, roberto…
A W back in the Central.
1.5 up (2 in the loss column) on ATL to play the first ever WC at PNC Park.
3 games up (4 in the loss column) on LAD for the 2nd WC.
29-40 required for an 81-81 finish.
For a team that I thought was a mortal lock to lose 90, I can’t complain about where they are right now. Just keep those 2 of 3′s coming in.
Bringing my broom to the game tomorrow! Can’t wait…this is just unreal!
I remember listening to Chicago sports talk when the White Sox were on the verge of winning the World Series. One of the on senior air personalities said there was a part of him that just could not believe he would live to see the day a Chicago baseball team win the World Series.
Sometimes there is a part of me that can’t believe I might live to see the Pirates have a winning, and dare I say, playoff season. I just wasn’t sure it would happen again in my lifetime.
These are waters we haven’t tread in for twenty years.
Yes John. As long as Meals doesn’t cross their path.
What a feeling to be playing meaningful baseball as we approach August, so much fun to be scoreboard watching once again. Just exhilarating!
I betcha Yankee fans are soooo happy for AJ
And to those still expecting a collapse….Bucs now 5-3 after AS Break and 11-5 in month of July.
Drew,
I know 2 Yankee fans in my office who won’t even mention his name. (initials ?)
We were lucky tonight
Zambrano melted
I was there, thank goodness for fireworks, was in the car by the time it ended
Great crowd, and a nice standing O for AJ,
A beautiful, pleasant night
Memo to Yankees, got any more guys you want to get rid of?
Glad you got to be at the game, Bizzy.
A.J. and Lincoln were both dealing. It would have been a good pitchers’ duel if Zambrano had shown up.
Discipline by Buc hitters on a night when McCutch wasn’t seeing the ball.
4 in a row yet again. As Ashford & Simpson would say, AJ Burnett looked “Solid……Solid as a ROCK” tonight, and the OVER wins. Thanks to all the fair weather fans who played tonight. See you tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone else getting bored with winning? I mean we’ve been losers for so long! I think I could go for some counseling to learn how to act being a fan of a winner now.
Miles to go before we sleep,
People are hoping, but still expecting
A natural reaction, IMO
It was nice to see youngsters in the stands tonight
As much as I am thrilled with the way Brad Lincoln has progressed, becoming the very good pitcher he was hoped to be ever since he was # 1 draft pick in 2006, I feel uneasy about it all. Teams have been scouting him and his name has been mentioned in the current trade speculation. Teams know he is good.
I just hope the Pirates don’t give him up too easy. He is a genuine good trade chip that should bring a good return. If the return is not exceptional, I would be very hesitant to let him go. He may be more valuable as a Pirate pitcher than as a trade chip.
Get back home day for Miami while the Pirates aren’t going anywhere. Jeff Karstens is the right pitcher on the mound. The Pirates beat Sanchez May 14 in Miami. The Pirates are better now. Today is a good time for 3 hour offense and 2 hour pitching. Not a slam dunk like San Francisco but a good opportunity for a sweep. Pirates are due to put it all together.
