DK
Didn’t volquez pitch last night?
I thought Marquis was pitching tonight.
Pirates activate Qualls and recall Daniel McCutchen, Wilson and McPherson optioned back to Indy.
yes, it is Marquis tonight
Marquis is beatable….Still can’t believe the gem he threw last time out……….
Not Jason Marquisesk
Another bright spot from last night.
Jose Tabata hitting the ball hard. Looked pretty good at the plate, though I understand his 1st AB wasn’t so good.
Didn’t look like the A’s gave up a lot to get Stephen Drew, I think he could have helped the Buccos…..
Ryan
it was a surprise, his next outing the Braves lit him up for 6 runs in 4 and 2/3rds
AJ to get his revenge on Jason’s home soil.
Liking the odds of a W for the Buccos tonight.
The A’s didn’t give up much, but they also took on all of Drew’s remaining salary.
I don’t think this would’ve been a good pick up for the Buccos right now. Drew’s not hitting and we already have a few guys on this team that can’t hit.
Barmes’s defense has been outstanding as of late and his bat has actually been pretty good in August.
@JAL
I see a repeat of that tonight……
The Friars are 20-17 since the ASB. That includes a 5 game losing streak last week. Good manager, Good young ballplayers. This is not an awful ballclub. Would love to see AJB take care of business tonight.
Great story Milo posted on previous thread. Jim Joyce showed the type of person he is when he apologized to Galaraga after that missed call. Now, he shows what kind of person he is again. Umpires aren’t all idiots, just like all preachers aren’t liars.
I think that my negative opinion of Barmes is so entrenched, that he could put up ARod #s now and I would still want him on the pine or gone.
@Milo – thanks for posting the Joyce story. Great read.

Good to see Barmes staying hot. Batting .304 in August with a .768 OPS. .720 OPS over the last 28 days and batting .364 in the last 7 days with an OPS of .871 OPS. That’s middle of the lineup stuff. Thrilled to see he is having his hot period and dragging his 2012 stats back to where they should be.
@John,
But twentytwo22 said they (the 2012 Padres) were the worst team ever assembled. I don’t know who to believe……….
Playoffs,
Don’t forget what your dad said. Don’t let that clown bother you.
@Playoffs–
100 OVER
Thanks!
@Playoffs
I’m all in on this one. I’ll take 100 OVER.
Beat em Bucs!
100 on the OVER please
@Lucky
Very true. Thank you sir.
@Roberto
He’s getting hot when this offense needs him too. They carried him for the first months of the season…..and now he has their back.
@ Playoffs
Marquis can’t offer up a repeat performance, Can he?
100 on the over.
thanks
Woah,
I just realized that Walker is batting 4th and Jones is batting 5th. That seems weird
Jamo’s starting for the Curve tonight
@Playoffs
Hope you and yours are doing well.
50 battleship class units (nod to the boys and girls in USN at SD) on the OVER, please.
1⃣0⃣0⃣ on the over
100on the over please
50 on the under please.
Hurdle just doesn’t get it. What is the redeeming quality of Rod Barajas? Someone please tell me.
DK: Um … anyone?
Playoffs, 100 on the OVER, please.
By September Hot Rod will be the Doug Mirabelli of personal catchers. He only has one month this year hitting over .200, and that’s May when he hit .302 (however that happened, no clue.) Every other month he has hit under .200, and he’s at .114 for August.
@Neil
He seems like a good Dad. As a member of society, I find that rather redeeming.
Neil – He does have 7 kids…and they seem pretty well behaved. Plus I heard he might even help little old ladies cross the street. Redeeming qualities in my book.
Sorry John. Didn’t see your post.
Dexter Fowler just made the most graceful catch robbing an extra-base hit/home run you will see all year.
No prob, pattonbb. What’s that they say about great minds?
And let’s be honest–if AJ goes out and throws an awesome game tonight and Barajas goes 0-3 like normal–I can deal with that. If AJ likes Barajas to catch him and he thinks Hot Rod gets better results–cool by me. I’m perfectly fine with personal catchers for $18M pitchers that produce results, zero sarcasm intended. I just don’t think that Hot Rod is an every day player anymore, and I think that McKenry should be taking on most of the playing time. In the off-season, the Bucs need to take have a long conversation with AJ and Wandy and, if Bedard sticks around, him too–and ask them if they’re comfortable with a catching tandem of McKenry and Tony Sanchez next year.
@ Playoffs – good evening from sunny San Diego where currently I am right across the street from the ballpark. have to get in on the action before checking out BP.
100 on the OVER
Have a really good feeling tonight….let’s go Bucs! And looking forward to meeting @ JMB.
@DK
Does Barajas and McKenry call their own game? It seems like McKenry does not call his own game, but it is hard to tell.
I’m going to take 100 on the under tonight. Only because AJ is going to hold the Friars to a hit or two while throwing a shutout. Marquis is also going to hold the Bucs bats in check, but the good guys will be able to push across 3 runs tonight. Bucs 3 Friars 0.
DK,
I saw it (#31). Thought it was so obvious I just let it go. 4 out of 5 days that’s a good post.
Playoffs–100 on the OVER, please.
Boise, you got it all wrong, it’s Hurdle’s fault for letting AJ push him around.
haha I’m in full-on Bill Swarsky’s Super Fans mode with the Bucs right now…
“ehhh I’ll hand it to the Padres, they got a heck of a team down there, but the Buccos n’ AJ will be too much to handle tonight. I got Buccos 127, Padres 1, bullpen might still be a little depleted and all.”
@Neil
Every roster needs 2 catchers. As bad as Rod Barajas is, he is hardly being buried by McKenry in the last 7 day period (.125 vs .000 – McKenry is 0 for 17 in the last week) or the last 14 day period (.077 vs .107)
Also, its entirely possible that McKenry is at his best catching 2 times a week.
@Boise
Tony Sanchez ? You are kidding ?
Here’s the one big problem though: The last good year AJ had (by his standards) was in 2008 with Toronto. He went 18-10 and had 231 K’s. Even in Spring Training this year, he credited Hot Rod a lot–that was his catcher that year. So, the problem becomes–what if they get rid of Barajas, and AJ’s performance drops off? Now, he’s a vet and it “shouldn’t,” but reference his 2009-2011 years, and it did. The Bucs need AJ to pitch how he’s pitching, and it’s worth having a .190 hitter to get it, at least in my opinion.
@Milo–no, not really…I’m pretty sure Sanchez could come up and hit better than .190, if that was the only option. And he could surely throw out runners at a better rate.
@Boise
.213 at AAA. Hasn’t earned it.
@Milo–no, he definitely hasn’t, won’t argue with you there. Bucs would be better off with a FA if they can get one. I’m just saying that as a backup catcher for McKenry, he wouldn’t be a terrible option.
@Neil Parker,
Barajas is fluent in both English and Spanish. A great quality for any manager to have in their catcher. I believe that is the reason he is playing tonight.
Taillon is mowing down the Trenton Thunder thru 3.
I didn’t know AJ spoke Spanish.
Barajas reportedly finished a close 2nd to Michael Strahan as Regis Philbin’s replacement with Kelly Ripa. Tonight’s start is his consolation prize, along with Gelman’s home phone number.
@ Milo
Darn, I was so looking forward to watching Live With Kelly and Hot Rod
@Playoffs:
–100 fake units on the over 6.5 hits, please. Thanks.
Speaking as a forty-something, someone needs to preserve some of that Ripa DNA.
Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but…
With all the talk about Strasburg getting shut down after a certain number of innings… Wouldn’t you have to consider pulling the plug sooner and saving some of those starts for the playoffs? Especially if they win another game or two this series, having a 6 or 8 game lead in the division and even more in the WC race with just under 40 to play seems like a good cushion, and if you’re only talking another handful of starts anyways… I’d have to think about it.
And what if they wanted to sit him before rosters expand? Would they try to CL him? Send him to AAA to not play?
Barajas and AJ have a great working relationship.
Also, almost every baseball person will tell you catcher and SS are the two positions where they would give up offense for defense or calling the game.
Tony LaRussa once said he didn’t care if Molina hit 0 because the job he did behind the plate.
@Playoffs -
100 on the OVER please.
DemonDachshund
Living in the DC area I have a lot about Strasburg and what the medical people say is that he should shut down completely and rest. It is not just the number of innings. They could have held him out at the start of the season but the doctors say pitching him 120 innings, stopping him, then starting him again would not do the job.
I’m all for a soft hitting catcher who plays great defense and calls a great game getting playing time.
However, the Bucs have Barajas, who is a soft hitting catcher who calls a great game.
That being said, Fort deserved yesterday off, and AJ can have Bedard catch for him if he wants.
@JAL -
Ah, I’d never heard the stop and restart portion of that explanation. I’d just heard it as an inning limit, and I’ve always wondered. Makes sense then… They should certainly do whatever’s best for his long term health.
Taillon’s final line for 5 innings in his AA premier against the Trenton Thunder:
0 runs
4 hits
6 K’s
0 bb
67 pitches
DemonDachshund
The stations here have covered every possible thought on the issue.
Reds just had bases loaded in the top of the 6th, trailing 1-0 in Philly.
Cliff Lee got a grounder, 3rd to home. Then Jay Bruce grounded into a 4-6-3 DP.
Happens to every team.
First @ Playoffs –
Please may I have 50 on the OVER for tonight’s line.
Second –
Barajas (IMO) has been as close to MVP for this pitching staff as anyone else on this team. I realize that he doesn’t have the bat, but his leadership, knowledge and skill behind the plate has been perhaps the single most reason for the success of our pitching staff. If there is an unsung hero award for this team, it belongs to Barajas. Not to mention his mentoring of the Fort.
Barajas was one of the BEST pick ups for this team for this season. Period. ‘Nuff said?
100 on the over all the way. Marquis gets his tonight. Re Barajas, he has the respect of the pitching staff and is a veteran presence but his offense has been lacking for sure.
Halliday pitches–11 runs of support
Cliff Lee pitches–of course they only score 1 run…
@playoffs,
100 on the OVER pls
thanks
rut roh…Reds have 1st and 2nd, nobody out…
Explain this to me Mike Rizzo. Strasburg started tonight’s game. There was a 51 minute rain delay after a couple of innings. Strasburgh came out after the delay to pitch again in the game. Teams rarely do that with non TJ pitchers. Can’t think of much more stress on an arm than that. Don’t get it, Davey and Mike.
@Playoffs
100 OVAH, OVAH, OVAH
Or as they say OVER
10 hits tonight
Thanks
BEAT EM BUCS
@Playoffs
Please sir, may I place a wager of 100 quesadillas on the OVER. We’re breaking out the bats tonight, guys (and ladies).
Alright , I’m here and ready!
Chris
No sense in talking logic vs some folks
Billy Hamilton, Reds prospect, 146 SB in 120 minor league games. Breaks Vince Coleman’s professional baseball record.
No word on how Hamilton is with avoiding tarps.
@John,
Imagine how Hamilton would do vs our catchers
To Jray — 108, which row?
Reds finally broke through, took the lead in the 7th–up 3-1 now
Phillies tied it up 3-3, runners 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.
I almost want the Reds to win though… Seems like every time they lose, the Pirates lose too.
@playoffs
100 on the OVER please
@Playoffs
100 on the OVER please
Thanks
Let’s Go Bucs!
Well great start to the night, talked briefly with Jared Hughes and he told some fans he knew he planned on being in LA for a baseball academy for a few days after we win the World Series, you have to like his attitude!
Just met @ JMB who is sitting just one section over from me, always nice to meet a fellow Bucco fan that shares the same passion. Now I just hope AJ is on and we get to witness a Bucs win.
Phillies tie the Reds at 3, however does not appear the Astros will be much of a help against STL.
Same here JRay.
AJ will get us a win tonight.
@playoffs
100 on the over
@playoffs – 100 on the OVER . thank you
believe in AJ
@JRay
I’m glad Jared Hughes has survived all the roster shuffling to this point. Should have never been sent down in the 1st place.
100 on the over. Thanks
Tips to win: Score more runs than SD.
Distracting camera problem with Root feed.
When AJ strikes people out tonight – can I yell STFD at the TV?
Just 2 “under” votes today…haha looks like if I lose I’ll have lots of company!
Cutch says I CAN STILL STEAL BASES
The time for experimentation is near over. If CH insists on using Tabata, Barajas, Barmes, and Pedro as often as he does, then he will bear the burden of what transpires, or merit the taste of ultimate victory.
I truly wish him GREAT success
Cabrera might have been able to jog to 2nd.
So glad that the final score guess wasnt part of the line tonight
Ah, crap.
So much for having a personal catcher. Next reason the Fort is on the pine.
This is beyond annoying. Terrible choice by Jones, have to get two there. But, he can’t throw to second.
And AJ has to turn this around. He’s already had 2 crappy starts in a row.
These 1st inning struggles are annoying.
Losing to the Padres. Again.
Absolutely unacceptable.
Jones made the right decision; the execution took too long. In that case you must chase the runner back to his base then make ONE throw then the tag. They made three throws.
@bob
All due respect, Bob. Jones absolutely made the wrong decision. Always take 2 outs in the 1st inning.
I guess it was two
There was no guarantee of two outs was there
@bob
Except that he can’t throw to 2nd base which throws conventional wisdom out the window.
Barajas is useless.
eh, it’s one inning, we’ll get it back
I wonder why Jones was deployed in if the intent wasn’t to cut off the run. Did you see where he fielded the ball?
The Pirates as a team really seem to have problems hitting against sinker ball pitchers. Lots of swings over the top of the ball.
Not having been very good at the plate past the age of 14, I don’t know how you go about correcting it. Just an observation I guess.
@Playoffs–I don’t know, but Atlanta seems to have the trick…lit Marquis up last start
…somebody’s quietly got themselves a 3-game hitting streak…
McCutcheon got absolutely lucky there.
Another wasted at bat.
Cutch hits into a sure thing double play, except………
The slide by Snider both stopped a double play and scored a run. Very Impressive.
What?!?!
Cutch, Cutch, Cutch, man……what is going on??
are you talking about Daylon McCutcheon for the Cleveland Browns? Or Mark McCutcheon for the Buffalo Sabres?
Cutch is the worst “fast guy” at stealing bases in the history of stealing bases….
haha but he stole that one back in the first…dang it
@Boise I always add the “o” for some reason.
Regardless, that AB was another waste.
AJ’s about to get a strikeout/DP combo…
Come on, AJ.
Got to get out of this.
@Jay Jax #120
His base-stealing reminds me an awful lot of Bernie Williams. In fact his game in general reminds me a lot of Bernie Williams, too. Bernie Williams in his prime had good speed (not as fast as Cutch, but still way above average), but never could really figure out how to steal bases consistently.
Take a look at Bernie Williams career numbers. I really think he is a very accurate comparison for McCutchen in many offensive categories.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/willibe02.shtml
that’s a huge DP for AJ.
@Clarence
Ever been in a Turkish prison ?
I do not like that back-handed throw from a second baseman to shortstop – especially one that far. I’ll still take the Maz technique, pivot and dart throw.
Nice work by AJ
RBI since All-Star break:
McCutchen 16
Barmes 14
That can’t happen…. ever
@Playoffs
Yeah, but has Cutch ever been nominated for a Grammy ?
Billy Ray Smith sitting behind home plate.
I guess sending Jones was the right call, but why are Leyva’s decisions ALWAYS questionable?
@Milo,
His career is young…….
Cutch on the Claves
OR
McCutchen’s Percussion
@bob #132
because you always question them?
Playoffs…I just remember how quick Chase D’arnauld was out of the box last year and how quick of a jump he got off of first on steals…..decent speed, but great instincts….if he could hit more than .200 that would help, but he had base skills………Cutch needs to put some time in…….
Barajas is almost guaranteed to get a hit here, given the out made at home to end the inning.
Way to go Rod. A homerun may score him here.
Some guys are fast as the wind, but just can’t get “the art of the steal” down. I’d love to see Cutch work in the offseason with someone like Tim Raines. There was a guy who was an amazing base stealer. Raines had great technique.
But honestly, if Cutch can hit .330, and hit 30 dingers with 100 RBI’s I really won’t care how many bases he can steal.
Pitching around Snider to get to McCutchen. My how things have changed.
Have to say that if I’m a shortstop, I’m terrified of Barajas coming at my knees.
I guess you’re right Playoffs, because I don’t trust him most likely. I do concede as I did above this was the right call
Damnit!
Can’t fault Cutch on that one. He hit that really well.
Figures.
Venable was kinda shading that way too…Cutch hit that one into the gap, Venable just played it right.
That’s the 3rd or 4th pitch Cutch has stung only to have somebody catch it. He might not be struggling as bad as we think.
@bob
It’s all good man.
He had to send him though. If he doesn’t you’ve got 2nd & 3rd for Barajas……..who they would have walked. So it’s bases loaded for AJ. Leyva didn’t really have any choice but to send him.
Would rather see hit and run than straight steal, but then we’d have to have a guy make contact.
Two perplexing things about Cutch- speed doesn’t transfer to steals, nor does he beat as many grounders as his speed would suggest. On the other hand, first to third time wins gold somewhere.
Does anyone else think of Blazing Saddles every time they mention Headley’s name? No? Maybe it’s just me.
@patton
That’s Headley !
@pattonbb
YES!!!
That is why I really wanted the Bucs to get him. Literally just to be able to yell, THAT’S HEADLEY!!! every time he came to bat.
“Head them off at the pass?? I hate that cliche.”
“How did he do such amazing stunts with such little feet??”
@Milo Hamilton
Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
…scuse me while I whip this post out.
Big moment in the game alert
I too wanted the Buccos to acquire Headley, if nothing else for the Blazing Saddles references.
atta boy AJ
It’s time for some runs, daggumit!
Glad I’m not alone with that. I also think of Slap Shot every time I here Hanrahan’s name…”Hey Hanrahan….”
I’ll stop there.
Is AJ getting squeezed?
San Diego strandin’ runners like it’s their jobbie
Mongo only a pawn in game of life.
@pattonbb
Re: Hanrahan…Me. Too.
Nothin’ like Peter King talking through PRNW’s at-bat…gee…cool Peter King…
sorry, I’m watching the SD broadcast
Players who have to play in Petco should be allowed to take PED’s.
GIJones!
ATTABOY JONES!!!!
Just so frustrating that these early modest deficits are effectively insurmountable. Ha, as I type a GFJ bomb. You’re welcome.
haha I WAS watching the SD feed…until Mayor Jones’ HR
GO BUCS
GIJones is officially at the Loverboy level: “the kid is hot tonight”
Jonesy!
Garrett moved down in the order tonight because of a poor history against Marquis.
He responds with a HR, part of a 2 for 2 night with a walk. Wtg Jones!
I wonder if some producer had to tell that cute girl who Peter King was prior to the interview?
JONSEY!
Here we go! Here comes one of our hottest hitters, Barmes. Who thought we’d ever say that?
Two base hits for Barmes.
Bizarro Buccos.
OH CRAP BAAAARRRRRMMMMMEEEEESSSSS IS ON FIRE
Next thing you know Hot Rod will get a hit LOL
AJ has really battled tonight. Get some more runs for the man……!!!!!
Jason Marquis reminds me – “…how about this leaflet, Greatest Jewish Sports Legends.”
That’s for you, Captain Oveur.
Rod…..excellent…..l.l
The OVER wins, on the backs of Snider, Jones, Barmes and Tabata.
Who knew?
Barajas pulls a double out of his…pocket
HOLY WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT
@Milo Hamilton
All right…give me Ham on 5, hold the Mayo.
ok…Next thing you know AJ will hit a homer LOL
Tabata needs one of his dumpy Freddy Sanchez bloopers to right……
The Padre pitchers are choking like they are Phil Mickelson or something.
C’mon Snider, time to get the Asylum PAID
Problem is, Hurdle will likely continue to play Barajas as that RBI double will justify it in his mind (although he’d probably do it regardless of that hit).
The OVER wins. PICK ‘EM WEDNESDAY tomorrow. Thanks to all again.

ackkk….well, it’s tied up…AJ will hold it, Bucs’ll take the lead in the 7th
Cameron Maybin completely stinks this year & we can’t get him out.
Pedro, why did you drop to your knees before the ball even got to you?
haha i didn’t even notice the Bucs were up, stupid Ethics paper…
Wow Barajas.
Wow.
Well this went downhill quickly……..
strikeout/DP
LET’S DO THIS AJ
And this is why I damned near threw something through the TV when Snider grounded out with the bases loaded.
Can’t waste away opportunities to score runs. Just can’t.
Qualls/Watson in the ‘pen…
Jones, all concerned about having to throw to 2nd.
This is a complete 2nd guess. Pinch hitting for AJ in the top of the inning doesn’t seem like such a bad idea now.
Should have pinch hit for AJ, just needed to get a ball put in play to extend the lead and sorry, but he was dancing through the rain drops all night and really a one run lead wasn’t enough and now this entire debacle is happening because it finally caught up to him, though granted no help from his teammates this inning. Way to just throw it all away Bucs.
Just a nasty 3-2 pitch.
Now a DP to stop the bleeding. Please.
#STFD!!!!!!!,
NICE K AJ
AJ saves our a$$e$ yet again.
Wow…..just wow.
#STFD & #STFD!!!!
THAT’S WHATCHA NEEDED AJ
NICE DP 5-4-3 WAY TO GO
AJ has shown big time guts in this game. Let’s go lumber!!!!!!
Great Recovery! Still would have pinch hit for him though. Hopefully, the middle of the order can put up some runs.
What a play by Walker to complete the DP.
Good job by AJ to stop the bleeding.
Now we need some runs, daggumit.
OK you Eastcoasters-let’s see a show of hands-how many of you stay up for the whole thing if this one goes 19 innings?
MAN I can’t wait to see the replay of that double-play! Haha Greg Brown’s call was more exciting for that than it was for GFJ’s homer!
@John,
That’s a negative. I’m fading as it is. God bless the DVR.
Seriously, if Pedro can throw a slider, he might have a career as a relief pitcher in an alternate reality…
You think Cutch remembers Brach’s strikeout of him from last night?
Cutch, what’s your problem?
@Oshkosh
Midnight is the point of no return for me so I’m in for the long haul. Don’t have to leave the house until 9:15 tomorrow.
Me too Playoffs and I’m a Centraltimer. Amen to the DVR and “Quick Pitch” for that matter.
Bahaha BY ALL MEANS IBB Pedro to get to Barmes
21,000+? Sounds like about 300 people are there.
And that’s why we’re in the top 3 for strikeouts in the league.
Pathetic.
I will continue to watch so I can see the “Grease” Nissan commercial as many times as possible.
Milo:
I’ve got a 40 pound alarm clock in the form of my daughter that gets me up at 6:30 no matter when I check out for the night. But I am going to try to hang in for awhile.
1010 strikeouts coming into tonight’s game.
Awful.
I can’t believe they’re letting him out there.
#STFD!!!
STFD
Clarence, dude you are becoming cancer. Relax.
Yasmini Grandel ought to marry Yasmine Bleeth.
hmm…how’s AJ gonna get outta this one…2nd and 3rd, 1 out?
POPUP/STRIKEOUT. BOOM ROASTED
Pitching change por favor
Should have never let him back out there, and that’s a 1st guess.
I say load em up and try to induce DP.
Nice call Blue.
@Playoffs by 2012
Because I call things for what they are?
Fact is this team strikes out far too often.
Leave ‘em in Hurdle, he’ll get out of it. Watson…doesn’t exactly thrill me
@Clarence,
Your point?
Well, this is why pitchers in the bullpen get paid.
Jared Hughes throws a sinker that was tailor-made for double-plays
AJ allowed 17 baserunners in 6.1 innings. That’s just too much traffic.
First pitch Sac Fly…no kidding.
@Playoffs by 2012
So producing a statistic to support a point isn’t allowed here? Because you find it inconvenient?
Too bad.
My plan was an intentional BB by Burnett and then Burnett induces DP. Poor execution of a brilliant plan.
Time to produce some runs.
How about another double, Rod?
Could have been worse, that’s for sure.
@Clarence,
No, you’ve been cancer all night.
Whine, complain, blither, repeat.
I’m standing up to cancers like you.
———————————–
Losing to the Padres. Again.
Absolutely unacceptable.
———————————–
Barajas is useless.
———————————–
McCutcheon got absolutely lucky there.
Another wasted at bat.
———————————–
Regardless, that AB was another waste.
———————————–
Problem is, Hurdle will likely continue to play Barajas as that RBI double will justify it in his mind (although he’d probably do it regardless of that hit).
———————————–
Cutch, what’s your problem?
———————————–
And that’s why we’re in the top 3 for strikeouts in the league.
Pathetic.

1010 strikeouts coming into tonight’s game.

STAND UP TO CANCERS ON THIS BLOG!!
@Clarence–it’s more that we all know they strike out a lot. Haha we don’t need stats, it’s a fact–they strike out a lot. We know. We also know that Cutch is in a slump, Hot Rod can’t throw out base stealers, and Tabata tends to jog out grounders. We know.
I actually thought it was closer to 2,000 strikeouts. Seems that way anyway.
The 20-0 game was remarkably positive for what it was, now that I think about it
Why is Yamaico Navarro in the Major Leagues ?
Need to light up R. Cey in 9th.
@Clarence
Surely you’ll be more positive ?
I have been impressed with this SD club, A little tinkering over the winter and they just might have a playoff contender as early as next year. Good young club.
@Playoffs by 2012
So a poster isn’t allowed to point out something obvious? Sounds like I need your permission to say what’s on my mind. Didn’t realize you were in charge here.
And labeling someone a “cancer” for speaking their mind when that’s the whole point of a comment section is as childish as it gets. Let me guess, next you’ll call me a “hater”.
I’ll criticize (or “complain” as you put it) as much as I please.
Got anything else for me?
@Milo Hamilton
If we weren’t reverting to old habits and playing poorly against a team that is 15 games below .500, I would be more positive.
And don’t call me Shirley.
BTW-I think it is just about time for Jandy to wake up.
IS THIS VENABLE GUY SECRETLY A MOLINA
@TwentyTwo22, what do you think of this game so far?
I think we all deserve bereavement time for having to watch Chad Qualls pitch.
@Milo Hamilton
But he Qualls so hard…
NO DK, NO MORE SOCIAL MEDIA.
I don’t know what SportsYapper is, but I’m not getting it. Or Sulia.
Qualls sucks. I’m pretty sure he has naked pictures of Hughes’ old lady or something.
There ya go, Cutch.
Walker and Jonesy, here’s your chance.
@Clarence
“I’ll criticize (or “complain” as you put it) as much as I please.”
——————————————————————————–
That’s exactly what a cancer does. Just speaking my mind.
Thayer went to Chico St. same school as Nellie Briles.
@Playoffs by 2012
So you’d prefer that I blow sunshine up your arse instead?
Amateur hour ended a while ago, bud. Grow some thicker skin.
@Clarence,
I don’t care what or who you blow. As Vince Neil once said, don’t go away angry, just go away.
hahaha
“I’m not your bud, guy”
“I’m not your guy, pal”
“I’m not your pal, chief”
“I’m not your chief, dude”
Ok, I’m done
Come on, Garrett…need something here
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OHHHHHHHH
GFJ GFJ GFJ GFJ GFJ GFJ GFJ GFJ
GFJ!!!!!!
GFJ!!!!!!!!!!!! PEDRO NEXT!!!
CAN WE ALL AGREE THAT HE’S THE MAYOR NOW
@Playoffs by 2012
I’m not going anywhere, Kemosabe.
@Boise Bucco
That episode never gets old. Ever.
Hahahaha NOW I see Hurdle’s strategy using Watson and Qualls early, get them out of the way so that they can’t Jose Cruz the game up when this sucker goes 19 innings!
Smooth Move Hurdle! That’s Manager of the Year stuff right there
Prediction – Qualls gets the Juan Cruz treatment tomorrow. Since, you know… that run was kinda a ‘game coster’ now. In hindsight and all.
Now please, PLEASE force extras.
It’s 1:26am and I’m wide awake. Ready for the long haul.
Not enough there Alonso.
OK. If it ends at 2:00, I still get 5 hours.
@JoeBucco–YESSSSS DO IT
I can’t believe what my eyes just saw!! GI Jones thank you!
Maybe Jones was not real happy with NH trying to replace him at trade deadline.
If this blog is allowed to clamor for Pedro come hell or high water, then certainly Jones must receive the same adulation whether lefty or righty, first base or right field – HE MUST PLAY
@JRay–you ready for 19 innings!?
haha if Hurdle penciled Mayor Jones in at Catcher I wouldn’t argue at this point
Grilli…come on…
Come on Cheese
Milo:
You ought not to have mentioned Maybin earlier. This is scary.
This is starting to look like that game in Denver after Pedro tied that one up.
Thank you, Pirates Jesus.
Cutch had no business catching that ball.
MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a big ballpark. With marine layer. And Cutch.
Can of Corn. Wondering if radio call was #TNDP.
Petco Park and Andrew McCutchen bailed us out big-time just now.
There we go…Extra Baseball!
LETS GO BAAARRRRRMMMMEEEESSSSS
I can’t believe what my eyes just saw # 2….Cutch, thank you and MVP
@ Boise Bucco – strapped in not going anywhere!
They called up Daniel McCutchen today too…that’s some serious premonition…
Everybody has won- Cards Reds. This needs to end in the W column.
You’d think that by now Barmes would know that big looping curve is coming with a 2 strike count. But no, it gets him every. single. time.
Bizarro Barajas.
Hot Rod’s 2 for 5? Well of COURSE HE IS
@Reading
Braves, Dodgers & D’Backs all lost. Arizona scored 5 in the 1st & lost 6-5.
All right, come on bullpen.
The thing about having by far the easiest remaining schedule of all the NL playoff contenders is that you have to beat those bad teams left on the schedule.
Need to get this one…
JAL- For your morning links song, I humbly recommend:
NO SLEEP TILL BROOKLYN
FLY THAT LITTLE GIRL IN ASAP
A loss puts us only a half game up on Cards. Need the W.
@John
Should be Louisiana next ? Battle of New Orleans – Johnny Horton ?
Walk Headley.
come on, DCutch. Dig deep.
F
Damn.
—- that.
Technically, Venable’s a Molina so he was gonna get on base anyway, so a walk really doesn’t hurt THAT bad…
Why let their best guy beat us? His run meant nothing.
Ouch…
Any reason why Hurdle chose McCutchen over Hanrahan?
Allow 23 baserunners in 9 plus innings, that was a just result.
@Milo Hamilton
And don’t capitalize on opportunities with RISP ourselves.
Just disheartening. Can’t lose games like this to teams like San Diego.
If you can’t beat San Diego you don’t have much. After they lose tomorrow they will be 7-13. Last year they went 5-15. They finished 16-30 for a 72-90 record. They will finish 15-24 for a 82-80 season. The perfect Pirate way for ruining the end of the losing seasons.
@twentytwo22
To hell with that, I’m greedy and want the Wild Card.
Suffered for too long to witness another collapse. The winning season is pretty likely at this point. It’s playoffs or bust.
And they can’t say that they didn’t have the solution in place yesterday either…small sample sizes being as equal as they can be and all, McPherson got 2 innings and Wilson got 1 to prove themselves, and they did pretty good. And they both sport 95 mph fastballs. MLB had DMac at 90 on his. I’m not a hitter, but there’s gotta be a reason that DMac was a part of the 2011 Bucs, but couldn’t find a roster spot on the 2012 version. I always thought that DMac should’ve been in the ‘pen, but hey, I’ve been known to be wrong–so far I’m 700 in the negative and all…
