  1. Milo Hamilton says:

    Chase D’Arnaud has been recalled.

  2. JMB says:

    Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS
justin morneau was claimed on waivers several days ago, w/ no trade completed. so he’s staying in minnesota. #twins

I’m still a Kendrys Morales guy myself.

My guess is Hanny to the Angels in the offseason for Morales & Bourjos.

  3. JMB says:

    More on Morneau

    Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS
#twins “didnt view morneau as just a giveaway,” said person familiar with their thinking. so they kept him.

  4. JAL says:

Good call up with Walker unable to play, needed another infielder.

  5. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I agree. The Pirates don’t need a starter right now to fill Bedard’s slot.

  6. JAL says:

Right, Bedard’s spot doesn’t come up until Saturday

  7. JohninOshkosh says:

I am fiercely loyal to Dejan so I have rarely even taken a peek at the pay per blog since he moved to the Trib. I did not go over to it when the pay was instituted (although I would glob on to it every now and then because, like Groat said, it was always broken and accessible). I just went over there based on your previous post. The same stuff was being posted as since the last time I visited. People complaining about the technical difficulties and posts by DA Frizzi (with the most annoying avatar) about Clemente every 2 seconds. I’m not sure what that is all about.

I gotta say that the simplicity of this blog’s format and the fact it is never down, and that it is FREE, is undeniably great.

  8. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

So there’s a good break. I knew it wasn’t for a few more days.

    Thanks for the exact date.

Take the extra bat for almost a week.

  9. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re right. They need 4 of them.

  10. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I agree. I paid once. Then didn’t go back. Way too much negativity there.

Its like a blog full of 22’s around there.

    Negative Nancy’s they are…

  11. Jandy says:

OshKosh, I’m glad we’re here instead of over there!

  12. JRay3 says:

Not excited to see Walker out a second straight day with the back issue. I know Chase is the logical choice in this situation and he has hit a little better of late as he was up to .247 with a .321 OBP and .379 SLG. But it does point to our need to develop some hitters.

On the bright side D’Arnaud does have 33 SB’s and caught just 5 times compared to the Bucs 55% success rate that should help.

Big game tonight if for no other reason than to get this team to believe and celebrate some success which has eluded them lots this month.

  13. DemonDachshund says:

I hope in 2 or 3 years, when the Marauders and the Power guys hopefully become Indians, the team finally has more to choose from in AAA than the constant stream of Mercer/D’Arnaud/Clement/Navarro type players they’ve been churning through.

  14. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    I’ll admit, I’m a big Chase d’Arnaud fan.

I’m hoping for the best from him. What I like about him for this call up now is he actually knows how to run bases. Exceptional speed.

I’d like to see him as the future SS, but I know he’s struggled this year.

  15. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Did anyone catch the piece Tim Williams did on Jordy Mercer a couple weeks ago because of a tweet from Kevin Goldstein?

Goldsteiin called Mercer a utility infielder, at best.

  16. Bizrow says:

Since I’m still paid up, I go to the old place now and then.

You cannot be in any way negative or question the FO at that place, else you get ripped. There are several folks that try to rule that place.

That being said, there are also quite a few classy folks there.

The only reason I will not completely leave is I will not let myself feel “forced” to leave a place simply because of my love for the PBC and my amazement as to how sleazy the BMTIB is at times.

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

Whoa, guys. Take all the shots you want at the PG, but you are talking out your nether regions to attack the posters there today as “negative” in your view. . (I’m talking PG+, not Smizik’s) . You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. IMHO

  18. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

It could be I was referring to Smiziks.

  19. Bizrow says:

I hope I am alive long enough to see this club and this city enjoying what the PBC once was

And long enough to be at a wedding or two, even if I’m drooling ;-)

  20. Milo Hamilton says:

My original point wasn’t about posters at all.Negative as well as positive views are what makes a horse race. I was criticizing the hired help. Some of the answers on that chat today were downright amateurish.

  21. LuckyNKentucky says:

Good points, Ryan. Spark on the bases, in the field, somewhere is really going to help now. Chase may be the guy to do it. He’s healthy and playing better. If we could take the next 2, things won’t seem nearly as bleak. Then build on that.

  22. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Pretty sure AW was referring to me…

  23. Jandy says:

Biz, I’ll send you some bibs ;)

  24. Boise Bucco says:

My subscription ran out about 2 months ago

  25. Arriba Wilver says:

Ryan, Smizik’s is still free, and there are lots of good people still at + that would add to the conversation here, regardless of their views.

  26. JohninOshkosh says:

I liked Bizrow’s avatar with the Dachshund. Must be a Dachshund family. :)

  27. Milo Hamilton says:

I was just clarifying my original statement which was intended to be a compliment to DK. I noticed JAL was asking a few questions, he should have been answering them.

  28. JohninOshkosh says:

I did not mean to infer that the posters were poor.

  29. Jandy says:

AW, relax, man, you’re shaking everyone up ;)

  30. LuckyNKentucky says:

Where do you’all (you ‘unz) find the time to check all these sights and chats, etc.? I must be a slow reader. Even the negative ones on here are interesting and somewhat knowledgable. Why go all over? DK makes this one more personable, anyway. He acts like one of us instead of an “award-winning”, Tweet-leading journalist.

  31. Bizrow says:

My friend, I totally agree with you that there are a lot of good folks and good PBC fans at the old place.

I particularly enjoy Wabbit and Robshelb Daryle too

As I think Ryan posted the other day, this place folks can say what they think and for the most part, challenges are professional and reasonable in nature

We both know its not always the same over at the paid site ;-)
    Plus we have Drew

  32. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

BTW, I signed up for the FF league finally. Thanks for setting it up.

  33. Jandy says:

Speakin of the errr…Speakin of Drew…where is he????

  34. Bizrow says:

    7 and counting ;-)

Once we get avatars here, I’ll post the puppy Abby and the white sausage Ursula

Four have been rescue dogs, but it got so hard to lose them, as most are older and have medical problems.

Jandy, send me the bibs ;-)

  35. Jandy says:

Lucky, don’t look at me, it’s all I can do to keep up with yinz guys here!

  36. Jandy says:

    Biz, comin’ up!

  37. Milo Hamilton says:

I have some extra time on my hands. I’m on mental health leave after attending Sunday’s game. Doctors think I’ll be good as new in a matter of months. :)

  38. Arriba Wilver says:

Biz– you had me until the part about Drew. :-)

Sorry, but it’s kind of like attacking “family.”. Sure, you have your weird uncle Ned’s (starts with a J), but nothing wrong with the people.

  39. Bizrow says:

@Ryan, thanks, it will be fun

@Jandy, I think Drew is helping Drew Jr bring home the winnings from Vegas

Seriosly, don’t want to speak for him, but from what I understand, he travels a lot

  40. LuckyNKentucky says:

I’m gonna call the dog catcher on you. When we lived in Beaver County, I had to go 3 different times to that facility up by the BV Mall and bail our dog out of jail. They got to know my name. She had a license, but always lost her collar. Got the dog free and paid to bail her out 3 times. :(

  41. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Nothings free!!

  42. LuckyNKentucky says:

I totally understand. I thought about taking a month off myself and sleeping until October 1st.

  43. Bizrow says:

My friend, we are in general agreement. The great majority of folks there are first rate

Two of the most frequent bloggers, nameless, but one is here frequently, have called me a “Troll”

I’m not sure what that is, but I was talking about the way the FO is using Mercer yesterday and another blogger just came out of nowhere

I am so tired hearing about the minor league system’s “success” and being corrected on typos ( a hint for two of them)

    Uncle Ned, sigh……

Here, people can say what they like

  44. Bizrow says:

Ok, we need a change of Hidden Vigorish

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

Every time I see Mercer sitting on the bench, all I can think of is Pedro Ciriaco.

  47. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Mountain Home AFB* is previously listed, sorta. Its in Idaho.

Feel bad for that lost sole.

  48. Bizrow says:

My girls are legal beagles only longer and shorter

They all have had licenses, except for Abby, as they are building a new Humane Society on Broadhead, once I get her fixed and that place is open, she will be a legal beagle too.

Dachsys are couch potatoe in nature, much like their master, mine never go out on their own.

Cmon boys, tonight you need to bring the A game

  49. bobhasis says:

    Ryan@#128 on the earlier blog

Your rebuttal to my entry; you said Presley runs worse routes than Tabata.

My friend the operative word is RUNS. Tabata lopes, jogs, meanders, trundles in every freakin move he makes on the diamond.

Presley would have been there – maybe even waiting for the ball to descend, while Tabby watched it hit the ground and let Cutch pick it up. I am taking issue with your evaluations of both Tabby and Presley.

  50. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

That’s really a tough arguement. There’s no way of actually knowing if he would or would not be there.

Running styles are different. Because Tabata looks to be slower than Presley ( I have no idea who’s faster) does not actually mean that he is.

Because a guy looks like he’s jogging, doesn’t mean he actually is.

  51. LuckyNKentucky says:

Just kidding. I wouldn’t call any dog catcher on anyone. Even if they ran free. I had to tie up that dog all the time and, when we moved here, she got to roam all over. You could almost see the smile on her face. Nearly got hit a few times, but never did.

  52. Boise Bucco says:

    @Ryan–haha it’s meeee!

  53. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I figured as much. I have a buddy of mine who’s been there for about 10 years, absolutely loves it.

    Most though, do not.

And no, he’s not a nonner.

  54. Bizrow says:

I know, we were just yacking, friendly banter

I do like talking about the girls

I’m hoping we will be able to have avatars someday here, but won’t criticize anyone that doesn’t want to post one ;-)

  55. Boise Bucco says:

haha they told me, “OHH YOU’LL LOOOOVE THE OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE!!” Really…I just spent 3 years in Alaska, but yeah I’ll love Idaho…uh huh…It’s like the desert but colder. Boise is really nice though. I just signed for an apartment there for when I (finally) get home. It’ll end up being around a 50 mile commute one-way, but the interstate is 75 mph, which is really like 90 mph so it’s not that bad.

  56. Arriba Wilver says:

Erik, we hardly knew ye. Is there a game tonight?

  57. bobhasis says:

Ryan, I know you are trying to be objective – no problem with that – but don’t allow yourself to be fooled by some cliche “they have different running styles” or “it just looks like he’s jogging”.

You know if it looks like a duck . . . . . . . . .! Tabata is lazy with no drive and no hustle.
Gorkys, Marte and Presley all would have gotten to the ball, and caught it. Tabby played like Tabby always plays – with very little purpose. And let us not discuss baserunning amongst these either

  58. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I was in Alaska for 3 years as well. Loved it.

I have heard once you get out of MH, its really nice.

Boise is supposed to be one of the most liveable cities in the country.

  59. Arriba Wilver says:

Yeah, Ryan, if we had Presley up here all year, we’d have avoided the losing streak, and his .285 OBP would have us in the playoffs, not to mention his spotty defense.

  60. RobertoForever says:

    Re: Triple A help.

How many guys have to be part of the #FreeXXX meme before it is realized that Triple A success has to be discounted significantly when they reach the majors.

    Matt Hague
    Jordy Mercer
    Starling Marte
    Drew Sutton
    Gorkys Hernandez
    Daniel McCutchen
    Evan Meek
The one except this year was Doug Slaten – a discount but not significant (but he is 32)

And this is not limited to the Pirates. See the Twins for how many triple-A’ers they have run up to Minnesota who have not worked out this season. Cleveland Indians as well.

And Barajas could be replaced by Jose Morales, a competent major league catcher. But no team would cut a personal catcher of the team’s ace. Especially in a pennant race, even a fading one.

  61. Tooch says:

I live in Yorba Linda California. I mostly just read (I guess that means I’m lurking) the posts. tried to post several times and they didn’t get through.

  62. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Actually Bob, its not a cliche, people do have different running styles and some look like they are “trying” or going “faster” than others.

What have people always said about Big Ben’s running? Wow, he seems slower than what he actually is.

I’m not a big fan of Tabata, to be honest, but I’m even less of a fan for Presley.

I hope they both prove me wrong someday.

You missed the Pirates Championship team in the Gulf Coast League! How could you??

  67. Bill Born says:

Steven Pearce – OF – Yankees

Steve Pearce will serve as the DH and bat cleanup in his Yankees’ debut on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Well, there’s something we didn’t expect to see in late August. However, Yankees manager Joe Girardi is playing the matchups with Mark Teixeira (calf) and Alex Rodriguez (hand) on the shelf and left-hander Ricky Romero on the hill for Toronto. Pearce could have some fleeting value in AL-only formats.

There is a reason most guys are in the minor leagues. Because they’re minor leaguers.

  73. stuart66 says:

    @John and your #7
I too was a former paid member of the Dark Side paid blog. I quit after 3 months over a dispute about payments, and the general unreliability of the site itself. They acknowledged my quitting, but continued to bill me monthly through pay pal, and the amount was so little that I didn’t notice for almost a year. My main dispute was with “automatic” payments, and my main point was validated when they continued to take out a subscription fee for long after I no longer had access. (I did get my money back eventually.) It was also true, and remains true to this day, that I had and have a bone to pick with the PG. It’s simple.. They no longer deliver the paper to my home area which is a short 100 miles from their Pittsburgh distribution point. Pi$$ Poor Management. I loved the content, although it has plummeted in the last two years.
Sorry for the RANT, but I too LOVE this site, and have no interest in seeing the same old posters on the paid site, especially the one with the dumb dog wearing the Pirate hat who talked incessantly about his grandchildren. And though I frequently disagree with Dejan’s take on things, i consider him the best Sports scribe in the area. And, though I only post occasionally (probably a good thing) I read this blog religiously.

  74. Bizrow says:

The weekend Dejan left, I cancelled my subscription to the PG and when I called, I told them why

The place is dominated by several bloggers, and I do not, nor have not ever seen that here

  76. stuart66 says:

    Biz, Me either!

  77. Bizrow says:

    Ryan and Stu66

How bout some domination from the PBC? ;-)

  78. McG says:

  79. JohninOshkosh says:

I appreciated your post. I live about 90 miles from Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel stopped home delivery to my county several years ago. That paper has a baseball writer, Tom Haudricourt, who is one of the best (even though he writes mostly about the Brewers!). I miss getting my hands on that paper. It is a universe apart from how I was raised to sit at the breakfast table looking at a monitor instead of a paper. I know that I am aging but it is just not the same. I lament that loss more than anything with modern technology.

@Slackboss: Not sure what happened to Playoffs. He got caught up in the tense Sunday blog over the Pirates. Don’t know if he took his bat and ball and left the playground or if he is simply busy at work. Hope he is well.

  80. Bizrow says:

    Thanks McG

And an askerisk to boot ;-)

  81. Randy from Enola says:

Chase D. may be a fine back-up infielder, but is he really going to help this team win when the starters keep giving up 5 or more runs? Sprinkle in the AAA starting pitchers the next couple weeks so everyone can get a couple days extra rest for the last month. Can’t they try something new? I’m glad to see Bedard released. JMac and AJ could use some extra time off to see if they can turn it around. Also, I’m not too upset with the trade for Snider (though I was a big Lincoln fan), but giving up the 1st round pick for Gabby was ridiculous. And trading Casey and cash for Qualls was insane–Pirates could have claimed him earlier when the Phillies DFA’d him!

  82. LuckyNKentucky says:

    I counted posts. That’s your eleventy-second one of the month! 8). #freetodominate

  83. Drew71 says:

Well Biz. To your #74 post?

I suppose I’ll just have to post more.

And to that nice stuff you n Jandy said about me?

    My wife would like rebuttal.

  84. Arriba Wilver says:

stuart–there’s a reason I don’t pay to be there anymore (having to do with the PG). I was totally referring to the bloggers as not being the problem ( and the idea they were all negative as being ridiculous), and your reference to the one poster was “Uncle Ned.” :-) No dispute there, but that isn’t why I don’t pay.

  85. cosmo says:

I live 45 miles from Pittsburgh and I can’t even buy a copy at the local Sheetz.
I read it on line but will not buy into PG+

  86. Arriba Wilver says:

OshKosh–you must have been taking lessons from Lucky. Very tactful post.

  87. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I would love to see the Buccos dominate the opposition.

  88. LuckyNKentucky says:

If you’re out there, we all miss ya’. Don’t let a couple people bother you. If you’re at work, we all understand. Milo is on mental health leave and Drew is on leave to count his winnings from Vegas. The rest of us as per normal. Let us know how ya’ are.

  89. LuckyNKentucky says:

Thanks, AW. If I have tact, it’s from having 5 kids, 4 of them boys. And all the boys still live at home, believe it or not.

  90. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Did someone tick Playoffs off?

  91. LuckyNKentucky says:

Sunday’s game thread was unusual, to say the least, Ryan. And with the game results, that added fuel to the fire.

  92. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – I know he had his obvious moments with 22. But I thought 22 had settled down a bit and was starting to post some good information with statistical analysis.

Ironic that 22 has gotten so mad at team’s performance he does not post as frequently and now the search committee is looking for Playoffs.

  93. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – Also it has been a few days since we have seen the over/ under could you possibly tell me who was in the top spot?

  94. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

People losing their minds or what? Did DK have anything to say about it all? He’s usually a pretty good moderator.

I tend to avoid the blog during the game.

  95. Chico says:

    Maybe Playoffs is actually Bedard…

  96. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Shut up

  97. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Ah, I see. 22 was in the house.

He took the threats from DK seriously it seems and has turned the “this team sucks” bantra off.

  98. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Good one though

  99. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

First Place at the end of the season will win:

Second Place at the end of the season will win:

Third Place at the end of the season will win:
    (1) 2012 Topps Roberto Clemente Card

  102. LuckyNKentucky says:

That ain’t Playoffs. Just wanted Ryan to see the standings and how far behind he is. Of course, he’s on Pacific Time.

  103. JRay3 says:

Nice, but where did patonbb come from? Who is that guy trying to make a competition of this?

  104. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Hmmm, How did I drop down so much??

    It all started with Houston.

  105. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – When did you become the Houston Astros of the Over/Under competition?

  106. pattonbb says:

I’ve been on your heels for a while JRay. Don’t nap.

Milo referred to Playoffs as the “the self-appointed blog monitor”. Couple that with a pretty tense back-and-forth with a couple others that night, not to mention a disgustingly poor Bucco game, and he might be taking a break.

Too bad, by the way.The window is fun, but his ability to defend this team, no matter how ugly they look, without sounding like an “apologist” always makes for interesting reading to me.

    DK: Where’s Playoffs?

Need him back. Unless, of course, he’s been hired by the Pirates to scout shortstops, in which case he’s off to a higher calling.

  107. JRay3 says:

@ Lucky – Speaking of Pacific Time can I tell you how upsetting it is to be stuck in the office with game time at 4 pm out here, another night of rushing home in rush hour.

  108. LuckyNKentucky says:

HA! With all your other good qualities, JRay, you’ve got a sense of humor, also. How was that D-Backs game last night?

  109. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I have no idea……that last series against them, blew my score apart.

  110. LuckyNKentucky says:

I thought Milo was referring to that Poz guy. Guess I missed that.

  111. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I’m with ya on the time…..I do like it though. get home and put the game on…..

    Even better for football.

  112. JRay3 says:

@ Lucky – Dbacks game was fun my seven year old made it until the end of sixth inning.before he got cotton candied out. Got to see Bronson Arroyo (former Bucs minor leaguer) with the GWHR….the Reds just find ways to win games.

  113. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Maybe that’s what his new job was all about?

So it got pretty ugly huh?

I might have to go back to it just to read.

  114. Karen22 says:

Son and fiancee are at the game tonight…hope JMac and company make them (and us) VERY happy! Four days till September…need an attitude adjustment and some fairy dust. I really, really don’t want to switch to football yet. Miracles, anyone?

  115. Reading says:

Missed the blog game threads this past weekend while making the pilgrimage to PNC Park for the Friday and Saturday night Brewers games. Hopefully nobody missed my witty insightful comments. I’ll try to contribute tonight- at least until the power goes out. Thanks Isaac.

  116. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Key tonight is JMac.

If he pitches effectively, the Pirates have a chance, if he does what he did last outing, its another one of those games.

He must attack the strike zone, not try to pick it apart.

  117. LuckyNKentucky says:

Arroyo has hit some HR’s in his career. Too bad you had to see one.

  118. pattonbb says:

Whoa…I have the Bucco game on mlb tonight.

  119. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I have it every night…ha ha

  120. LuckyNKentucky says:

Why the RT of the Yankees-Jays lineup? The Pearce factor?

  121. Boise Bucco says:

So this means I win for the season, right???

  122. Boise Bucco says:

@Lucky–maybe to show that a .196-hitting catcher can still contribute to a first-place ballclub?

Russell Martin’s hitting 5th in that lineup too…

  123. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

It seems after 1, JMac took my adive.

    Pretty quick inning.

  124. JRay3 says:

First two runners on, potential for an early big inning, time for Cutch and Jones to get it going.

  125. Milo Hamilton says:

    Am I in trouble ?

  126. JohninOshkosh says:

    @Arriba Wilver:

    Thank you.

  127. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

  128. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Go back to Cutch being Cutch……

  129. JMB says:

Phew — Tabby made it. I never know how fast he can go with that groin.

  130. JRay3 says:

Cutch now with 27 K’s in 99 AB’s in August. Early run on Jones Sac, will take it.

  131. JohninOshkosh says:

Jakey not missing many bats early on-lets take advantage.

  132. Boise Bucco says:

haha Pedro thinks it’s a day game

  133. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Keep it rolling Fort.

  134. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I’m sure Tabby was jogging around the base paths.

  135. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

That’s his one hit for the game.

  136. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Welp, can’t complain for a 1st inning there.

  137. Reading says:

We won the first inning. Eight more.

  138. Milo Hamilton says:

Allen Craig is a great hitter, but he runs like Barajas.

  139. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Beltran is the one I worry about the most.

  140. The Gunner says:

this damn Molina – he kills us

  141. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I know he does…..such a good player all around.

  142. Bizrow says:

Anyone lately seems to have the ability to stab us in the heart

  143. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

On that note, enjoy the game all…….

  144. The Gunner says:

JMac is looking good so far. Maybe they are all running scared because of the Bedard situation.

  145. Bill Born says:

    I’m watching Yanks vs. Toronto
    Steve Pearce struckout first atbat.
They said that the Yankees have sent Casey McGhee down to single A Tampa-
What strange trip it has been .

  146. The Gunner says:

Is McGeeheehee hurt or what? Pearce must have been flashing his Pittsburgh form in his first at bat.

  147. Bill Born says:

McGehee is NOT hurt- Waiting for Sept 1 to be brought back.

  148. Milo Hamilton says:

    Oh my.

  149. JMB says:

    KO’d Molina, but out

  150. The Gunner says:

    great effort by JHay

  151. The Gunner says:

let’s hope JHay’s effort awakens the sleeping Pirates

  152. Milo Hamilton says:

    Brian Sabean is very upset.

  153. pattonbb says:

Best collision at the plate I’ve seen in a while. Wow..

Now, if LaRussa was on the bench, a Bucco would catch one in the ribs. Lets see how Matheny handles this.

  154. Reading says:

    There’s a 100% effort right there by J Hay!

  155. MadTurk says:

What real baseball? Good clean and hard play by both players at the plate.

  156. Schmed says:

Here comes another fine for Harrison!

  157. Schmed says:

WOW, these guys are mashing tonight

  158. Reading says:

    A 4-bagger.

  159. Boise Bucco says:

  160. pattonbb says:

    Welcome back el toro!!

  161. Milo Hamilton says:

Lefty batters simply just don’t hit the ball there at PNC Park. You can count the opposite field homers to left in any given season on one hand. Goodness.

  162. The Gunner says:

I thought it was a pop-up at first. Holy crap! Pedro is sooooooooooooooooooo strong.

All you Pedro detractors don’t know what you are talking about!

  163. Boise Bucco says:

For real though, great job by Pedro. Look at the lineup tonight–Tabata with a hit, Cutch with a double, GFJ with a sac fly, Pedro’s 2-2, the lineup’s really coming through tonight. Let’s keep it going!!!

  164. Milo Hamilton says:

Tonight’s all access night is just for bob hasis. :)

  165. Matt says:

I bet good money that harrison gets beaned.

  166. Matt says:

I would have lost good money. Lol

  167. Boise Bucco says:

Lol…Huntington ought to release someone every day

  168. Milo Hamilton says:

“Cutting won’t be difficult. Stopping will be.” Chuck Noll.

  169. RobertoForever says:

True. But the next victim on the chopping block would have been J-Mac, based on his post-AS break performances.

  170. Boise Bucco says:

@Milo–that’s the quote of the day!!!

  171. Bizrow says:

Can we get Chuck Noll to run the PBC?

  172. JRay3 says:

Just settling in to see a fine turn by Barmes for the DP….so JHay runs over Molina on a play at the plate, Alvarez belts a HR and J-Mac is looking like his first half self.

    What a night.

  173. JRay3 says:

And now Tabata with a running catch in the OF on a ball he had to hustle to get…these aren’t your fathers August Pirates or whatever the saying is.

  174. TDB1977 says:

I’m glad to see them winning this game tonight, so far. I must be a glutton for more punishment because during the rain delay last night, I went and got game tickets for the Cubs series and the final Friday night game against the Reds. And then today, my boss offered his entire team tickets to next Tuesday’s game in work’s box. So, I went from have only one game left (Labor Day) to going to 4 more games. I would love to see a couple more wins this year and stop the personal 4 game losing streak.

  175. Boise Bucco says:

    way to go, Cutch

  176. Boise Bucco says:

The players would Never say this to any reporter, at least not on record, but maybe the release energized them…shows them that the GM’s paying attention and wants to help out the club.

  177. JRay3 says:

Don’t look now but Tabata has been on base three times from the leadoff spot, Cutch with a couple of hits maybe getting back on track, Alvarez a double, HR and three hit night and is now hitting a respectable .246.

Nice to see some life from the team tonight.

  178. Boise Bucco says:

Haha, or maybe I’m just looking too deep into it and Westbrook’s just pitching an awful game…

  179. Bizrow says:

Fort gets a big darn hit

  180. Boise Bucco says:

@TDB–maybe you’ll get lucky and see some wins!

Way to go Fort, keepin’ the scoring alive!

  181. JRay3 says:

Every Pirate player with a hit tonight except Barmes after Fort smash.

Cardinals go BUSH LEAGUE hitting JHay, he ran Molina on a clean baseball play. Hurdle has every right to be upset we never have a chance to protect our guys.

    Just horrible umpiring.

  182. Reading says:

Sissies! Take your getting shelled like a Man, Westbrook!

  183. Boise Bucco says:

    @Matt–there’s your HBP

  184. JRay3 says:

Maybe this will unite the new look Pirates! And on cue Barmes gets into the hit parade! Every player with a hit now, take that StL.

  185. Boise Bucco says:

BAAARRRRRMMMMEEEESSSSSS with the 2 RBI single, breakin’ this game open

  186. RobertoForever says:

Wow, every position player with a hit, and even J-Mac drew a walk.

Maybe Neil Walker needs to be cut next

  187. The Gunner says:

Barmes comes thru – this guy is really stepping up these days!

  188. pattonbb says:

So, I guess Molina getting run over because he was 5 feet up the line counts as a beaning? That’s why we also get a warning?

    What a bunch of…..stuff.

  189. Boise Bucco says:

I think it was more ’cause Molina got run, plus he got injured, put out of the game, and is a noted Bucco killer…

A HBP is fine by me

  190. The Gunner says:

Scatata weakly grounds out / time for Snider to get a bingle

  191. Matt says:

There was nothing dirty in what Harrison did by running over Molina. By the same token, westbrook did nothing but follow the unwritten rule of the game. He didn’t throw at Harrison’s head or anything. Glad to see us playing well tonight. This may just be what we needed tonight to get some psitive momentum going! Go buccos

  192. The Gunner says:

OK Cutch / put these babies from St. Louis down for the count!!!

  193. Jandy says:

    now THIS is fun!

  194. JMB says:

    Nice inning!

  195. pattonbb says:

I don’t have an issue with Westbrook hitting Harrison. It is part of the game. I just can’t stand when the umpires warn both benches after 1 guy gets hit.

  196. The Gunner says:

Now JMac better hang tough and not get sloppy

  197. TDB1977 says:

Barmes should have went in with spikes in the air!

  198. JMB says:

In a game like this, does a warning even matter?

I don’t know the suspension rules, but if it’s 7-0 and JMac nears 100 pitches, why not plunk a dude in the back.

  199. Bizrow says:

    Baseball is fun?

Its been 20 years or so..

  200. Jandy says:

    JMB sounds like a plan!

  201. Jandy says:

    Biz..c’mon…this is fun..admit it dude :p

  202. Bizrow says:

    JMB, suspension, 5 games

It might screw up the BMTIB’s plans

But I say Drew it ;-)

  203. RobertoForever says:

Its interesting, because I remember when Chapman hit Cutch, many of the writers in Pittsburgh said, don’t hit anyone. The Pirates are in the middle of a pennant race, and it would create too much of an issue.

Wonder if the St Louis writers will chastise the Cardinals for Westbrook’s action tonight?

  204. MadTurk says:

    #194 pattonbb

  205. Thundercrack says:

All those runs were nice in the 5th.

But the most amazing thing about that inning is that the pitching coach nor the manager made a visit to the mound. Love it.

  206. Bizrow says:

1960, 1971, 1979, they were fun, and truly amazing

I’m old, I want IT ALL

    Or at least a start

Hope but expect, thats my story and I’m stuck with it

  207. Thundercrack says:

Looks like Pedro likes hitting 5th.

  208. JRay3 says:

Nice shut down inning by J-Mac after putting up the four spot.

  209. Jandy says:

    Biz….sometimes older IS better

  210. RobertoForever says:

Did J-Mac just strike out a .300 hitter with 3 straight curveballs that Shumaker just watched go by? That must have been an awesome site!

  211. Jandy says:

  212. TDB1977 says:

WOW!!! Pedro with 2 homers tonight!!!!!

  213. LuckyNKentucky says:

    You are right, as always!

  214. Milo Hamilton says:

    Really likes batting 5th.

  215. Jandy says:

  216. Bizrow says:

    I like the Fort, regardless

  217. Jandy says:

damn…did he do that on his own???

  218. Jandy says: too!

  219. JRay3 says:

Pedro 4-4, now with 25 HR’s and hitting .248 maybe we will cut him some slack.

  220. Thundercrack says:

    See post #206

  221. radio wave says:

    Save some for tomorrow.

  222. dcpfjr says:

    A Pedro sighting.

  223. Jandy says:

    TC…sure does

  224. Jandy says:

    and he’s fielding well also

  225. JRay3 says:

Wow Pedro’s shot went 469 feet longest HR hit by a Pirate in history on PNC!

  226. JoeBucco says:

When Pedro is on, great googely moogely.

  227. RobertoForever says:

Alvarez has raised his season average 8 pts with his 4 for 4 day. Now also hitting .300 for August.

  228. JRay3 says:

And not to go unnoticed in the offensive barrage, J-Mac with 7 innings of 2 hit ball and 6 K’s.

  229. JoeBucco says:

More impressive… his diving stop and throw from 3rd earlier this game, or that jack?

ok, well, the jack, sure… but man, this is an amazing game he’s having tonight. And at the time when he is needed most. Would love to see this start quite the roll. And no reason why it can’t. Cards tomorrow, then 9 against Milwaukee, Houston and the Cubs.

If it’s going to happen, it starts now.

  230. JMB says:

That dude wearing the Pedro getup in the stands is having a good day too. haha.

  231. Bizrow says:

    6 outs to go

JMac has to do it again next start

  232. Jandy says:

JMB he’s cracking me up lol

  233. Jones says:

Longest homer by Bucco ever at PNC Park. Ridiculous. If he stays healthy and plays in Pittsburgh long enough he’s going to eventually put one into the river on the fly. You figure this one was longer than Daryl Ward’s so it would have had it been pulled.

  234. JoeBucco says:

FWIW, after that stretch, it’s 3 against the Reds, then 10 more against the Cubs, Brewers and Astros.

  235. Bizrow says:

    Two more teams needed

    Dejan’s Lunatics (ID# 362238)
    Password 1203

  236. JRay3 says:

Couldn’t the hometown scorekeeper have given Clement the hit?

  237. Jandy says:

  238. Milo Hamilton says:

The Cardinals are the only team McDonald can get out. And conversely, the Pirates are the only team Westbrook can’t. Baseball, you just can’t predict it.

  239. Jandy says:

    Lucky #213…not always…but sometimes…and when it counts ;)

  240. TDB1977 says:

Guess what, Pedro is coming up next inning. Come on you bum, hit a triple!

  241. JRay3 says:

Travis Snider with two hits and a walk to reach base three times today. Hitting .300 with the Bucs with a .370 OBP, not too bad.

  242. Keith says:

So, Pedro needs to bat fifth moving forward. Move Neil to 2nd full-time and Snider, as well as he’s hit, can hit 6th (or Sanchez, if he’s platooning). Pedro is at the cusp of .250, which, anyone will tell you, is what we’ve all wanted from him all along, combined with prodigious blasts.

  243. Jandy says:

JRay..yup! Snider is having a good game

    Hey Biz???

  244. DemonDachshund says:

Yes, this is promising… And they certainly have the schedule to make a move. But they have to play well. They have to win the games.

    We’ll see.

  245. Jandy says:

    Milo, seriously???

  246. LuckyNKentucky says:

    My thoughts exactly.

  247. Thundercrack says:

How can JMac do it next time out when he is being sent to the pen and being replaced by Jeff Locke?

And Jordy Mercer will start every remaining game at shortstop.

  248. Jandy says:

OK I’ve seen enough of Resop

  249. Jandy says:

    TC..good point

  250. Bizrow says:

    Still awake

    6 outs to go

  251. TDB1977 says:

Agreed! Don’t let them make any sort of a comeback. Bring someone else in NOW!

  252. Milo Hamilton says:

Pedro’s 2nd homer was 469 feet, the longest ever by a Pirate at PNC Park. The longest was 484′ by Sammy Sosa (steroid aided) in April of 2002.

  253. Bizrow says:

    Count outd, 5 to go

  254. Keith says:

Pitchers will have some issues with Cutch, Jones, Alvarez when they’re all hitting. That’s lineup protection, something the Bucs haven’t seen in a long while.

  255. Jandy says:

Biz, are we having fun now??? =)

  256. cosmo says:

come on Clint go get Resop, It feels like a big comeback coming

  257. Thundercrack says:

This just in: JMac and Pedro will be sent down to Indy after tonight’s game to help the Indians with their drive to a championship.

    We will get a championship!!!

  258. TDB1977 says:

    Pedro is EVERYWHERE tonight!

  259. Keith says:

Outside of Headley, Snider looks to be the best pickup the Pirates could have made. Hustles, has a little speed, plays all-out on defense, and can rake at times. Add that he gets on base better than any Pirate not named McCutchen, and he’s a find.

  260. cosmo says:

August 28th, 2012, now to be known as Pedro Alvarez Day. Mayor Luke make it happen.

  261. JRay3 says:

Well that will get Resop out of it nicely. Pedro doing a little bit of everything tonight.

  262. JoeBucco says:

Someone probably already said this, but the guys on the radio earlier tonight said that Pedro was 8 for 16 against Pedro lifetime. Before tonight. I guess that would be 11 for 19 now. Impressive.

  263. DemonDachshund says:

    I love this tweet:

    Dejan Kovacevic ‏@Dejan_Kovacevic

#Pirates just announced they’ll be re-signing LHP Erik Bedard, then releasing him again, every day rest of season.

  264. Jandy says:

    TC ~ BOOM!

  265. cosmo says:

Can this hitting and run support carry over into tomorrow for Wandy?

  266. JoeBucco says:

Biz… I took one of the spots in the league. Been meaning to get in sooner, but I’m a slacker.

  267. Thundercrack says:

Why is Snider’s face always so red?

I mean, we have to find something wrong with every player. :-)

  268. Jandy says:

    DD LOL

  269. TDB1977 says:

Is tomorrow a day game or an evening game?

  270. Jandy says:

    TC’s on a roll :p

  271. JoeBucco says:

    Chase d’Arnaud for team MVP.

Just look at what this team has done with him on the big club as opposed to without him.

  272. JoeBucco says:

From #246, I meant against Westbrook obviously. Sorry

  273. Milo Hamilton says:

This is Murry Dickson, right ?

  274. JoeBucco says:

I probably plunk Allen Craig this inning, just because.

  275. cosmo says:

    @ Playoffs

    Bring back the Window Please!!!

  276. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    I had to come back.

    What a game.

Even with the offense, a huge kudos goes out to JMac. Exactly what was needed and the offensive outpour would not have happened without JMac’s performance.

    Great job!

  277. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

BTW, Pedro struck out, shouldn’t he be sent down or traded by now?

  278. Thundercrack says:

    Thanks Jandy.
I have to get these in before Drew gets back on the blog

  279. Eric Bowser says:

    Who are these Pirates?

  280. TDB1977 says:

Tabby laying out for a fly out with a nice diving catch. With a Tabby roll at the end.

  281. Jandy says:

Tabata is on a rolll too :)

  282. JRay3 says:

Did I just see that, Jose Tabata with a running, sliding grab on a short fly ball.

  283. Arriba Wilver says:

Takahashi is shocked he was brought in.

  284. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

Just as I speak, there’s that lazy bum Tabata making another nice catch.

Presley would’ve caught that standing still though.

    I’M KIDDING!! (sorta)

  285. JRay3 says:

@ Ryan – And to think I had the OVER on Pedro 3.5 hits and 1.5 HR’s tonight!

  286. Jandy says:

Keep up the good work, TC :)

  287. cosmo says:

Who on the Pirates staff speaks Japanese?

  288. Jandy says:

    AW lol…yeah he looked shocked

  289. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    I like Taki’s curveball…slow bender.

  290. cosmo says:

I had JMac over 6.1 innings pitched.

  291. Jandy says:

Raise it, ya shuttlecocks!!! (in honor of buggee)

  292. JoeBucco says:

    69 wins.

    That’s more than we had in 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, and 2005.

    Happy August 28th everyone.

  293. JMB says:

    Great win!

  294. TDB1977 says:

There was NOOOOOOOOOOOO doubt about it. You can raise the jolly roger as the Bucs sink the cardinals 9-0

  295. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Me too…for 1000

  296. Thundercrack says:

    See Jandy, isn’t this fun!

  297. Boise Bucco says:

Clement was technically hitless…pinkslip him, we need to win this series tomorrow

Sorry buddy, the scorekeeper screwed ya

  298. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    What happened with Clement?

  299. RobertoForever says:

Sorry, I find something distasteful in dancing on Bedard’s professional grave in Pittsburgh. Besides the fact that the signing didn’t work out. he seemed to be professional throughout his struggles.

Bedard was hardly the biggest reason the Pirates were swooning in August. Instead of being happy with tonight, it has to be connected into ripping Erik? What’s wrong with this picture.

  300. cosmo says:

If releasing Bedard unleashed this attack tonight, a question for the BMTIB,
    What took so long???

  301. Milo Hamilton says:

JMac. Nuff said. If they can just get the pitching straightened out …

  302. Jandy says:

    TC dayum right it is!!!!!

  303. Milo Hamilton says:

Erik Bedard has made nearly $23 million throughout his career. He can handle a little ribbing. Besides, HE STINKS.

  304. Bizrow says:

    Much like the BMTIB

    I will push fun to tomorrow/next year/whenever

    No slackers in football

Gettem tomorrow, or tonight is Nuttin

    Memo to TC

What is your problem with Dejan?

    Just askin

  305. Karen22 says:

    Just WOW!!

  306. Jandy says:

    Karen….isn’t that the truth??? :)

  307. cosmo says:

I originally liked the Bedard signing. After his performance on opening day, I thought it was going to be a really good signing. But after opening day his pitching was hit or miss, more hit than miss. It turned out to be a bad signing by NH. He gambled and lost.

  308. LuckyNKentucky says:

You got it wrong. Igarashi was shocked that Takahashi was brought into the game.

  309. Jandy says:

    Lucky lol!

  310. Jandy says:

    Lucky ~ lol!

  311. Boise Bucco says:

@RF–you’re right, he was absolutely professional. I’d hate to think that another free agent this winter would look at the Bedard signing, then look at the Bucs release of him, and think, “man, I wouldn’t want that to happen to me,” and choose to not sign with the Pirates for that reason. Bedard was 100% professional the whole time, even when someone created the Fake Bedard Thoughts Twitter account (which was pretty funny, for a whole day…) But at the end, he had to have known that it was coming, he probably thought that it was coming a lot earlier. Some day, maybe he’ll take a look back on season and ask himself, if he was the GM, would he have made the same move?

  312. Thundercrack says:

I think he is a very good writer and provides great information about the Bucs.
I don’t have a problem with him. A few issues…maybe. I’ll explain it to you someday when I meet you.

But it looks to me that someone else here tonight has problems with him.

  313. Milo Hamilton says:

He was really shocked when they signed Steve Pearce.

  314. LuckyNKentucky says:

As were we all. And when he batted cleanup tonight for the Yanks.

  315. Arriba Wilver says:

Roberto-Wow, just WOW. Way to find a negative in a 9-0 win.

  316. Jandy says:

some people just can’t be happy

  317. Arriba Wilver says:

    Lucky—I can’t spell Igawhoshi.

  318. Jandy says:

Off to bed…4am comes too soon…night!

  319. cosmo says:

Isn’t Pearce on like his 15th ML team, This year.

  320. Thundercrack says:

I probably won’t explain this good enough: But I liked Bedard’s attitude.
When he was on the mound it looked like nothing rattled him.
In between hitters he would rub the baseball and look around with a certain look on his face, like “Wow, there sure are a lot of people here today” – or- “Wow, it’s hot out here. I hope I get these guys out soon so I can go get a drink of gatorade. Awesome that we get free gatorade”.

AJ Burnett’s demeanor works for him out on the mound. Bedard didn’t take everything so serious. Of course I was there in person this past Sunday and I wish Bedard would have taken a bit more serious.

But hey, it’s a game. Not everyone has to be a macho man.

  321. Thundercrack says:

    I think he doesn’t care for a certain person’s tweet. (see #265)

  322. Boise Bucco says:

@TC–it seems that Charlie Morton could’ve used some of that attitude at times. JMac, certainly. I’m still holding out hope for #electricstuff…

  323. RobertoForever says:

Your point about how free agents will look at the team is something I thought about as well. If the Bucs DFA any free agent mid season that doesn’t perform well, they will have to overpay for every free agent. I don’t disagree with the DFA of Bedard, but these calls for DFA’ing Barajas and Barmes are a joke.

Bedard pitched VERY well for us in the beginning of the year and got little run support. Never heard him say one negative word about the losses being hung on him.

  324. Nancy52 says:

As Karen said WOW!! Now that’s the Pirates I love!

@cosmo No one on the Pirates needs to speak Japanese, he travels with his
    personal translator.

  325. cosmo says:

    @ TC

Teke mention something about Bedard being low key, not an excitable person in the room. I threw the ball, some got hit, some left the park. no emotion.

    just sayin

  326. Thundercrack says:

McLouth went 3-4 tonight. His average is up to .215.

Bring him back now! Fire the hitting coach!

Is it too late to resign Bedard?

  327. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

I dont care about Bedard’s attitude or what anybody has to say about him.

He’s been in this league for awhile, he’s a big boy and knows that these things happen if you don’t perform.

I’m sorry, but if someone works for me and performs at his level, they’d be getting fired too. (well, not really since I can’t officially fire people)

This is the business side of sports, can’t handle, go sell insurance.

I’m sure somebody might give him another opportunity.

  328. Thundercrack says:

I didn’t say I was a fan of his post game interviews.
But it did seem to p*ss off the media in this town.

  329. cosmo says:

    @ Nancy52

    Wow, didn’t know that, thanks

  330. Thundercrack says:

Bedard is Canadian and spoke French.
I heard in an pregame radio interview ( YES he did one of those and spoke alot) Bedard said that in the offseason in Canada he only speaks French.

Maybe he needed his own translator.

  331. Drew71 says:

    “I find something distasteful”

    “These calls…are a joke”

For someone who is so unfailingly, automatically supportive,
there seems to be a deep, deep well of anger.

  332. Drew71 says:

    I’m pretty happy.

  333. Arriba Wilver says:

    Gotta love Clint Hurdle,

  334. JRay3 says:

    The Pirates are 69-60.

The Pirates in games Erik Bedard started: 9-15

    Erik Bedard’s pitching line: 125.2 IP, 129 H, 56 BB, 118 K 5.01 ERA, 1.47 ERA

This is the big leagues, he was paid handsomely to perform, unfortunately not only did he not perform well, the team played six games under .500 in his starts.

And I am sure if I made 4.5 million I would not mutter a negative word either.

The fact remains the Pirates are a better team without him and that is ALL that should matter when you play for keeps!

  335. JRay3 says:

    oops that was 1.47 WHIP

@ Arriba – Did Clint say something in his presser?

  336. Thundercrack says:

I’m happy they cut the guy.
But I didn’t hate him. Thanks for the contribution, later dude.

And I am of the opinion that there is NO guarantee that the Pirates would have been any better than 9-15 with Jeff Locke, Justin Wilson, or Kyle McPherson as a starter (or the combination of the 3)

  337. Drew71 says:

Foo is NOT gonna love that, Arriba.

    You better buckle up.

Cause he’s gonna find that distasteful.

  338. Boise Bucco says:

Maybe Bedard’s true calling was coach of the Montreal Canadiens? They wouldn’t DARE fire him there!

  339. Milo Hamilton says:

I find a 5.01 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP distasteful. In English and French.

  340. Milo Hamilton says:

    No. He soff.

  341. JRay3 says:

@ Thundercrack – No guarantee for sure, but you have to try and see if you can get better results with any of the three you mention. And keep trying until you find better results.

  342. Boise Bucco says:

  343. Thundercrack says:

    JRay, I agree.

But even though Clint didn’t agree with this today, I still think teams like to rely on veterans for as long as possible.

  344. Arriba Wilver says:

JRay–he always does. Nothing in particular. Just being Clint. BTW, Leyva was shown after because he had a mic on him, and the Cardinal’s 3B seemed to be OK with the play at the plate with Harrison at the time.

  345. Drew71 says:

Drop back six months. Subtract Maholm. Add AJ and Bedard.

    I was thrilled.

    I said it.

The first step to recovery is not being bitter towards everyone else.

  346. Thundercrack says:

If we drop back, and then fall forward and be bitter, the debate is much more lively.

If this is considered a debate.

  347. DemonDachshund says:

I want potential free agents to know that failure is not tolerated. I don’t want a player who is afraid to play in Pittsburgh because he might get cut if he doesn’t perform… I want players who EXPECT poorly performing players to get DFA’d. I do NOT want another round of Jeromy Burnitz.

The biggest reason why the thought of DFA’ing Barmes and Barajas is a joke is that there’s no other option available that’s a definite (or even probable) improvement. And that even if those guys lost their starting jobs, they’d still be qualified and useful as backups. The only place they could demote Bedard to was the pen, and he wasn’t suited to that. He served no purpose, and he is now gone.

I will admit, however, that his lack of emotion bugged me. I work with people who don’t care how the product turns out so long as they keep getting paid, and fair or not, his attitude always reminded me of that. That sort of “professionalism” is not needed, especially on a young team.

  348. RobertoForever says:

Strasburg gave up 7 runs in 5 innings, including 5 runs in the 3rd inning.

Mike Rizzo is considering DFA’ing Strasburg and bringing Bedard.

  349. Drew71 says:

These calls for DFA’ing are a joke

  350. JRay3 says:

    @ RF –

I think the Nationals fans can forgive one bad start from Strasburg when he has done this so far for them:

    Strasburg – 15-6 3.05 ERA 1.14 WHIP 186 K’s in 150 IP

  351. JRay3 says:

After losing 10-0 to the Rockies last night, the Dodgers trail 8-3 tonight. How are all those new players working out so far?

If things hold Pirates will leap LA and be just 2 back of STL for final playoff spot.

  352. Arriba Wilver says:

KDKA had a long sports bit on the Pirates game in the news. Very unusual. Lots longer than the couple of seconds they gave to Mike Wallace’s return.
