  1. Thundercrack says:

What’s the crowd look like over there?

    (sorry, I couldn’t resist)

  2. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    Ha TC

It should be low, full price for preseason? C’mon NFL.

  3. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    DK

Like the chat transcript. I can’t ever log on at work though.

The best answer, IMO, was the one about the sources. I think we all wonder about that stuff. Its pretty cool deal.

Kind of a “you scratch his back and he’ll scratch yours” aspect it seems.

  4. LuckyNKentucky says:

Steelers are 2-1. Did someone lie to DK when he was in London and tell him they won that Eagles’ game? Oh well, doesn’t matter anyway. I still say preseason records should be based on how many regulars go down. The Steelers are down a couple.

  5. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

good write up today by Alan Robinson of the Trib about the cut possibilities.

Hardest part of the coaches job’s gotta be telling one of these guys that they got cut.

  6. It just came across the wire that Mark McGwire said that there is no excuse for the Carolina Panthers not to be able to hit Charlie Batch and the soon-to-be-on-the-Practice Squad rookie quarterback. He will be real disappointed if the Panthers get shutout. The Panthers have enough hitters that they should never be shutout.

  7. MarkV says:

I knew a professional hockey coach who made a similar comment to a retired general. The general told him what was difficult was sending men into battle knowing that many would never return. The coach allowed that cutting players from a game would be easier when he remembered the general’s words. Still not a pleasant task, but neither is it the end of the world.

  8. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

    @Mark

For those kids, It could be the end of the world. So to speak.

I did say the hardest job for these coaches.

  9. Arriba Wilver says:

G2M—it’s obvious you hate McGwire. Hahaha.

  10. pattonbb says:

Garcia looks very hittable for the Redbirds tonight.

  11. LuckyNKentucky says:

It would be funny if the Cards got shut out again tonight by a hittable Edwin Jackson. Only 3 hits after 4.

  12. TDB1977 says:

Its great to see the Redbirds being shutout into the 5th inning tonight. I think Mark really needs to start pumping his batters up with more Andro to help them out.

  13. Schmed says:

McGwire might be behind bars before sunrise….they were last seen scoring off AJ on Monday.

Charlie Batch is my hero…I was thinking earlier that we should cut him and bring him back if needed, but I honestly think that he would be an upgrade for about the league. Sweet grab by Manny Sanders, too.

I have liked Woods over Bryant at D-end, but what do I know. Spence is impressive for the most part…Rainey might make the squad as well….he seems to have a lil zig n zag.

Love watching Dwyer make guys miss, but also initiate contact instead of going out of bounds. He looks strong and will probably overtake Redman at some point. The line looked pretty good, too…nice to see them get a good lather together.

I am intrigued by the playing time for C Brown and C Allen. Allen might be having his worst game as a pro (interference call was BS and face mask should have been 5 yards), but I’m just surprised he’s still in there. Frederick made a great play in the end zone….great coverage.

Why don’t punters angle punts out of bounds at the 10?

  14. Schmed says:

On this night, Big Snack much superior to McLendon….Hamp is so stout at the point.

I thought Carter and Robinson looked pretty good on the outside, too….I could see them surpassing Worilds very quickly, but ARob is probably headed to another 34D.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr…..Spence looks hurt.

I wanted to say I like the rotation this weekend….any word on Walker?

  15. LuckyNKentucky says:

DK had a small piece on Sulia saying Walker was doing much better. May be ready soon.

Brock Holt may be our SS of the future. He’s had 3 straight games with 3 hits and his average since being called up to AAA is .440. Toledo walked him intentionally in the top of the 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the game tied tonight. Not bad for a leadoff guy.

  16. Schmed says:

This veteran Steelers team seems to have a tremendous amount of respect for Spence…maybe just the timing, but some guys are just natural leaders.

The last thing I was thinking on Monday as the ball was flying around the yard a bit was that AJ would be the last guy to give up a run in that series. Pretty good pitching and it seems to be contagious with this team. No back-to-back shutouts with a healthy Molina though…he and his 8-10 pitch ABs that end in singles or worse.

DK: You could just see the Steelers were moved by this. Haven’t seen Mike Tomlin look that angry — guess that’s just how he reacts — all summer.

  17. Schmed says:

I hope Holt is one of those big surprises the Pirates deserve, especially at short. I was really holding out hope for some wild Castro deal at the deadline, but I knew better.

  18. florida steeler says:

Great job by the special teams tonight with penalty after penalty. Maybe Tomlin’s buddy isn’t such a good choice to coach special teams. 3 good returns–3 penalties negating them.

DK: Well, yeah, but 10 of 11 guys nailed two TDs, right?
