Pittsburgh sports talk with the Trib columnist

  1. Jay Jax Fl via New Castle says:

I have direct tv and am still missing most of the first quarter…..Time for them to lose their monopoly over the NFL

  2. Eric Bowser says:

and that’s what happens when your only good cornerback loses a step, your NT gets pushed around, your strong safety is injured again, your right outside linebacker is injured again, and your defensive game plan is to give teams time to throw the ball and rarely blitz.

  3. Eric Bowser says:

wow, that was a horrible 3rd and 4 play-call to hand it off to Rainey as Jets have been destroying the middle line of scrimmage. Steelers need to keep ball to the edges and quick throws.

  4. Frankie says:

    Bring back Arians

  5. Eric Bowser says:

Jets lead 7-6 (two field goals by Suisham of 45 yards each), early in 2nd quarter.

  6. Eric Bowser says:

Nice to see Lawrence Timmons is playing… overrated.

  7. Frankie says:

Coudn’t have been Hood he was watching the play.

  8. Eric Bowser says:

    Ike Taylor is toast.

  9. Frankie says:

Overpaid and overrated. Timmons,Hampton, Keisel and Hood…

  10. RobertoForever says:

Steelers march down the field to close the 1st half and Ben floats an awesome pass to Heath Miller to the corner of the end zone.

Steelers lead 13-10 at the half.

  11. twentytwo22 says:

I could have sworn I saw some white chalk fly into the air. I’ll take the 10 point lead though. The defense has stabilized since the Jets second or third drive.

  12. RobertoForever says:

Steelers ALWAYS start slow. Whether everyone is healthy or not. Rarely do the Steelers jump out to a big early lead. I’ll take a 20-10 lead with the defense shutting down the opponent and the Steelers scoring regularly in the 3rd qtr.

  13. Arriba Wilver says:

22–must have been your imagination. All green between Wallace’s yellow shoe and the white sideline. Not much, but clearly all green.

  14. Eric Bowser says:

Ben has the whole field in front of him, why not run and get the first down, easy 10 yd gain, instead 3rd and 6. argh

  15. RobertoForever says:

Replacement Refs seemed to handle that challenge on the spot very well. Except I wish they would have just backed up their original call of the Steelers first down. But the replay spot was right.

  16. RobertoForever says:

Nice work by Wallace getting onto the field late for that possible 4th & 6 play. Might have been able to at least get the Jets to use a TO.

Great punt coverage to down it inside the 5.

  17. RobertoForever says:

Totally bad call on that completely legal hit by Clark. And that is not a commentary on the replacement refs.

  18. Eric Bowser says:

Can someone tell me, what did Taylor do to get a penalty?

  19. Jandy says:

Pressure late in the game. I like it.

  20. Jandy says:

He was there I guess. sheesh

  21. RobertoForever says:

GREAT job by big Ben to stay alive and create the defensive holding penalty on that 3rd down. Simply amazing.

  22. RobertoForever says:

And after a sack and a false start, nice dump off to Redman on 2nd and 18 for a 15 yard gain.

And a HUGE climb the ladder by Brown to convert the 3rd down. And Brown took a big jarring hit but held onto the ball. Let’s get those points!

  23. RobertoForever says:

Big challenge here by Jets. If they are wrong and the call stands as down and no fumble, they will lose a timeout and that would be the end of the challenges.

My initial reaction is he was down. Have yet to see a slow-motion replay.

  24. RobertoForever says:

    Steelers dominating time of possession.

And Heath Miller with another big catch, this time to convert a 3rd down.

    1st & 10 on the 13.

  25. Jandy says:

  26. Eric Bowser says:

Good running by Redman and Dwyer to break tackles.

  27. RobertoForever says:

Didn’t realize earlier that Big Ben had gone over 27,000 career passing yards earlier in the game.

He’s #2 in career yards for Steelers QB behind Bradshaw’s 27,989

  28. Eric Bowser says:

    Impressive 10:13 drive

  29. LuckyNKentucky says:

As the late Don Meredith use to say, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over”. Could reflect the Bucs’ dignity, also.

  30. RobertoForever says:

Agreed. Really saps the life out of a team to keep the ball away from the other team’s offense, making them nervous. And then punching it in for 6 at the end. Steelers football.

  31. Eric Bowser says:

@RF – Absolutely, big fan of the thunder and lightning type makeup at running back with Redman/Dwyer and Rainey/Mendenhall. Then you mix in Miller/Pope at TE and sick depth at WR with Wallace, Brown, Sanders, and Cotchery. The issue will be and has been the quality of play on the offensive line and health/depth of it.

  32. JMB says:

    Awesome win!

  33. RobertoForever says:

    Big Ben with a great game. 24 for 31. 275 yards, 2 TD’s and 0 INT.

  34. Drew71 says:

    “Wow” (looking around in awe)

“So THIS is what a successful franchise looks like.”

“And on top of that, bloggers who give the franchise the benefit of the doubt. I definitely don’t belong here.”

    “Why am I quoting myself?”

  35. aglebagel says:

Haha, love reading those comments after the first Jets drive of the game…

  36. Chuck H says:

I need an answer from somebody about that so-called interference penalty on the Steelers. It looked to me that Holmes caught the ball and took four steps with it when hit by 2 Steelers (legal hit) and he fumbled the ball. Where was the interference? That was about the worst call I ever saw. Someone please explain, where was the interference?
