  1. 21sthebest says:

    Baseball! 6-1!

    LET’S DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. JAL says:

If the knuckleball does a dance the hitter have no chance unless they for balls they wait and force a fastball over the plate.

  3. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

This is going to be ugly

  4. 21sthebest says:

There once was a man named Dickey,
Who threw a pitch that was tricky,
It did a jig and dance,
    Like Jose Lind sans underpants,
Can anyone think of a line that ends with hickey?

  5. matmoksik says:

I’ve checked out some over the last week or two, and I was just wondering…what happened to Brock Holt? Do we know why he’s barely playing?

  6. NMR says:

    Who is this Brock Holt?

Everybody knows Huntington hasn’t produced any baseball players that have helped at the major league level, other than Pedro, who even a blind nun would’ve picked.

  7. Ryan (Nor-Cal Stlrfanrc) says:

JHay has had a bit of a hot bat lately……

  8. RobertoForever says:

Woah, a Jody Mercer sighting. He hasn’t had a start since Aug 18th. He must have bought the coaches dinner in NYC last night.

Good luck with that knuckleball, Buccos. Although I hear a knuckleball performs much better in 80+ degree heat. NYC is forecast at 72. Guess that means career high in strikeouts, right?

  9. RobertoForever says:

And JHay has a 1.536 OPS against Dickey. That always helps.

  10. JRay3 says:

With a win today at least we would only have to win the final two home series to achieve 81 wins.

  11. Lifer BucsFan says:

Nothing short of an all-out fan revolt will change the course of the owner and the team on the field.

The local media has to start taking the manager, GM and president to task. I’m talking constant hardball questions.

As for the fans, unfortunately…they need to stay home and/or have some sort of massive protest.

    Occupy PirateFest? Just a thought…

DK: I’m sure you’ll be leading the charge, right?

  12. LuckyNKentucky says:

What’s the over and under on that since we’re 16-35 since the high water mark?

  13. Richard says:

Looks like a good day (lineup) to get no-hit…Kyle Stark

  14. JRay3 says:

@ Lucky – I will be shocked if this team wins two more games this season. So my over/under would be 77.5.

  15. NMR says:

I know defense doesn’t matter anymore in baseball, but Hurdle is just making a joke of it at this point.

Clint, this Correia guy you have pitching today tends to let guys put the ball in play. Plan accordingly.

  16. LuckyNKentucky says:

Couldn’t agree with you more, but sure would be nice to see either 81 or 82 in the W column. Maybe this decade.

  17. Tom P. says:

Competent organizations make sure that only authorized people speak publicly on important matters and that the message to their customers and other constituencies is consistent. I guess time will tell whether Frank Coonelly had authority to say that all of top management will be back next year, or whether his comments are akin to Alexander Haig saying (after the assassination attempt against President Reagan), “I am in charge here.”

  18. pattonbb says:

They gave Littlefield, what….7 years? Huntington will get at least that many to try and right this ship. You don’t break up the BMTIB just because of a record setting, never been done before in the history of professional baseball, collapse. The pieces are here. 2 or 3 more Andrew McCutchen’s, and a coupe more AJ Burnett’s is all it will take.

Sorry, that was stupid to say. I think they have 4 years before Pedro will be hitting bombs for the Yankees. Maybe somebody can teach them how to evaluate talent before that happens.

We’re Pirate fans. Lower your expectations folks. Bob Nutting obviously lowered his.

  19. LuckyNKentucky says:

Considering as bad as Barajas has been most of the year, that was a pretty good piece of hitting. They had a live look-in on Gameday.

  20. Milo Hamilton says:

That, ladies & gentlemen, was one of the best catches I’ve ever seen.

  21. Brad, Indiana PA says:

Neal the SEAL is beaming over that catch nearly as much as HotRod’s RBI.

  22. JRay3 says:

Holy Barajas, Hot Rod goes yard.

  23. Milo Hamilton says:

Interesting to note (TM Vin Scully) no knuckleball pitcher has ever won a Cy Young Award.

  24. Patrick(RI) says:

Isn’t this Mercer guy supposed to be on paternity leave? How old is his kid now?

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

    Just started kindergarten.

  26. JMB says:

Hot Rod is making his case for a tidy, lil $1-2MM contract for next season.

I can see Hurdle going to bat for him with NH.

  27. Bizrow says:

Looking at whats available, they might have no choice but to resign Barrabbas

  28. JRay3 says:

There is no way we this team can go into next season with the catchers they have simply based on their inability to throw out runners. It puts too much stress on the pitchers if every single or walk turns into a double.

Quicker deliveries to the plate with the pitching staff and catchers with better release and throw times to second are a must if this team actually wants to attempt to show improvement.

  29. Milo Hamilton says:

Quicker deliveries to the plate ? They’ll teach that in the minors.

  30. JRay3 says:

@ Milo Hamilton- Well than I guess it is a good thing we have the best development team in baseball according to NH and FC.

  31. JMB says:

Well, the lead was fun while it lasted.

  32. JRay3 says:

And today’s collapse happens in the 5th inning. 76-80 here we come.

  33. T.S. says:

Gee, there’s a surprise. Another non-call by Clint Hurdle. David Wright is 12 for 16 off Correia. 1st base open. Nah, just pitch to him. HR. Chomp on your gum some more, Clint.

  34. T.S. says:

Great stuff on Travis Snider, from the Great White North.

    Part 1 of 3:

Other two parts linked there. Enjoy.

  35. RobertoForever says:

Wow. Just deplaned in Providence and turned on the Bucs to hear Wright’s HR on the radio. I think I saw the ball land out here on the tarmac. Bummer.

DK: Wait till you see Snider’s catch, RF. Will make your day, regardless of the final score.

  36. Milo Hamilton says:

Manny Acta has been fired by the Indians. Still trying to figure out why they hired him in the 1st place. Model organization though. Good place to find front office execs.

  37. JAL says:

Entire series has been in the morning links the past two days

  38. Arriba Wilver says:

JAL–thanks for the link to Snider’s catch.

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

Johnny Cueto pitches against the Pirates tomorrow in search of his 20th win. Has one team ever allowed 2 pitchers to win their 20th in consecutive games ?

  40. The Gunner says:

    @ Milo – 40

Don’t know the answer to your question. But, I think the probability of Cueto getting his 20th win tomorrow night is pretty high.

  41. Arriba Wilver says:

In light of the announcement by FC yesterday, and the computers rule over human evaluation (e.g., Neal saying the metrics show we should have only been 2 over .500 instead of 16) of the people leading our Pirates, I thought this clip from 2001: A Space Odyssey was appropriate to represent my feelings as a Pirate fan (I feel like Dave):

  42. Brad, Indiana PA says:

Saw HotRod flash the Z after his ground rule. What a stark contrast to the unveiling of the Z when he looked like a little kid who just won the Little League World Series. This time it was just depressing. Too bad he couldn’t end it on a better note. I think he deserved better even if he had a bad year.

  43. Milo Hamilton says:

Correction – Johnny Cueto isn’t pitching until Sunday in Pittsburgh.

  44. Bizrow says:

    What happened to Cutch?

  45. Bizrow says:

Acta was fired due to “second half slide”

    What a novel concept

  46. 19 Years and Counting says:

Hunter Pence would have made that catch without using the fence as a crutch

  47. Arriba Wilver says:

Why doesn’t our Buccos coming back in the 9th in a loss warm the cockles of my heart at this point?

  48. manny _sanguine says:

Time to take my “Irate Fan” t-shirt out of moth balls.
