Looking ahead to faceoff …
Game: Penguins (3-3) vs. New York Rangers (3-3)
Time: 7:08 p.m.
Site: Madison Square Garden, New York
TV, radio: Root Sports, NHL Network (nationally), WXDX-FM 105.9
Here is the official live summary.
Here is the the Trib’s Penguins page. Rob Rossi is on the scene.

Jandy,
Good Q in the chat about the PP, and potential coach/specialist. Also glad DK brought up EJ. I remember how prolific the PP was in the 80s.
If Bylsma’s smart he gives EJ a call. I think he is still on the payroll?
Stuart
If he isn’t, he should be. The PP is pathetic and needs a wise man to fix it. EJ could be that man.
Paul Martin is terrible…There I contributed all I know about the Penguins to this discussion.
Paul Martin is doing better this season.

warren, pa
Springfield Virginia is on the list, but can you add an asterisk? I’m retired Air Force and currently a civilian at Joint Base Andrews. Thanks.
Add Beaver Falls, PA to the list.
Real nice to hear Charlie won that award, BTW, Homestead’s finest
All the coaches have ample opportunity to watch tape of other teams’ successful power plays and apply what they see to the Pens own talented players. It seems pretty inexcusable to think that this isn’t / can’t be happening to get this stuff untracked. It’s not chemistry- it’s execution.
Or is Jordan Staal THAT terribly missed?
Lets go Pens!
Jordan Staal didn’t play on the #1 Power Play.
It IS chemistry between Sid and Geno. Only one puck.
Sid and Geno are talented enough to be flexible in their roles on the power play. Something has to change in their approaches in order for the power play to click. It’s execution. Staal was valuable on the second PP unit. Plus he could get back to defend if necessary.
Dave from Cincy,
You and I do not usually disagree. Yet we do here . . . .
.
Kobe Bryant and Big Boy Dwight Howard are the best at their respective positions in the NBA (depending on what position we cast Durant in), but they have no chemistry and the Lakers are under .500.
.
Sid and Geno are 2 of best 4 players in the world, but they have yet to display in their years together the wherewithal to be able to complement one another. It’s not their ability——it’s chemistry.
When they achieve that 6th sense chemistry—when it clicks—the execution will follow.
They are being coached to play a certain way. Something needs to change. They may need to shoot more. They may need to be repositioned. They may need to be more aggressive in certain spots on the ice. They may just need a different quarterback than Letang. It isn’t about their abilities; its how their abilities are tapped and coached You cant do the same things over and over and constantly fail and expect that things will suddenly change.
When the coaches draw something up, such as the power play, it’s about execution. Chemistry is something that occurs naturally.
And I love ya, Groat. Looking forward to baseball this season.

awww, it’s a budding Bromance
ZACTLY!!!!!
Lots of questions about Simon Despres before last game . . . . . he was the best Pens D-man on the ice!
.
Lots of questions about the Power Play before this game . . . . . let’s hope they tear it up!
.
I give Bylsma credit: he knows his bread is buttered with Sid and Geno. He keeps hanging in there with them, not splitting them up, not dissing one of them; until they finally (we hope) find a rhythm playing together. Please find a rhythm playing together!!
Personally, I’m not worried about the Pens yet
Cream rises to the top
Bizzy,
The problem is——Spring Training does not start for 12 days and we have nothing else to worry/complain about. The Pens are tied for the last playoff spot right now, but we must scream that they are falling off a cliff.
.
You are right: they will rise to the top. I agree with you.
I’m not panicking, not complaining and I’m not screaming about a cliff. But I am concerned about their play. It is more than one issue, but the same ones that plagued them last season.
You can certainly hope cream rises to the top. I hope it does too But I’ll be looking to see it on the ice – perhaps tonight.
Sorry to bring in baseball but Pirates announced they reached agreement with Walker and JMac, so no players going through arbitration. No details yet
Good news.
Now if they only could sign Casey Mcgehee.
.
They miss him, you know.
No apology necessary. That’s what the reply function allows. Separate conversations which don’t interfere with the primary topic.
.
And besides. It’s news. Thanks for sharing…much appreciated.
.
Now if only we can get some morning links on competitive tattooing.
.
I think I am considered an apologist. So I may have to apologize. Or apologize for JAL
You wear the badge proudly…
Sorry you feel that way.
that’s good.
That is great news.
Now I can’t wait until they release the salary numbers. Then when we learn that they are lower than what the players demanded, we can start a thread where we blast the front office for low-balling and worry about how this is going to mess up the players’ heads and our season is doomed.
We can also use that thread to craft a strategy to rescue Casey McGehee from Japan.
Why is it great news?
.
Was there fear of the Pirates walking away from arbitration award?
.
Who is the backup 3B… Josh Harrison? Maybe there should have been something to that McGehee rescue.
For me it is great news because they settled with all their players. And they didn’t have to go through the arbitration process. And it seems that this was done early.
.
Now back to the left-wing lock.
I thought the only left wing lock you knew was the Right Wings wanting to lockout the Democrats?
…Pens don’t play a left wing lock… actually, I’m not sure the Penguins play anything resembling a true defensive system.
Rob Biertempfel
@BiertempfelTrib
Multiple sources confirm: #Pirates sign Walker for $3.3M, McDonald for $3.025M. All arby guys are signed. Bring on #ST13
….Or….We could start a thread that raves about the money that they’re spending till July (Unless they get in another pesky pennant race).
Well, another long day working from home, still sick and just did our taxes…..
turned the game on and saw Malkin score the goal, nice timing I guess.
Um, Pens picked up Boychuk…. not much of a player, good speed. Not sure another midget is what the team needed but when you consider the team’s second best NHL skilled prospect behind Bennett in WB/S is Jayson Megna, an undrafted free agent, it tells you how terrible Shero has been with forwards.
Terrible line matchup…
.
Engelland-Bortuzzo against Rick Nash, Marian Gaborik and Brad RIchards…
Anyone else watching the Ranger’s broadcast?
Thankfully no.
NHL suspends Colin MacDonald for 2-games for boarding Lovejoy.
.
Crosby gets drilled and no penalty.
.
Sure would be for NHL to come out with guidelines on boarding.
Ranger’s announcer claims it was a textbook clean hit. And they also said Sid spends way too much time looking at refs.
typical reaction from an announcer…. such homers any more.
.
Pittsburgh is home to two (Errey and Steigerwald)
The name of the textbook would have to be…
rules were meant to be broken.
This is the stuff that makes me want to scream at the referees and Shanahan.
say it with me…. Anybody but Kennedy
.
Remind you of someone in Penguins past?
.
Anybody But Murray…. Glen Murray, former Penguins RW
.
Kennedy has great scoring chance in slot, can’t score
Pens 11-6 shots and score 1-0
.
Nasty cross-check by Staal late in periodd, yet ref gives Malkin a penalty too?
.
I didn’t know NHL put in a new rule for being a punching bag.
.
Can you imagine if officiating was a stock, always up and down… sell, buy, sell, buy… ugh
if officiating was a stock, it would crash and burn.
Pens had a good first period, only 2 turnovers.
.
Lack of speed for NYR is evident.
Typical John Tortorella….. only way to stop it is scoring on PP
Are you kidding me??? Is there ANYONE on this team who can score???!!!????
Crosby just isn’t himself
is anyone on this team “themself”?
The good news…. no goals against in 2nd period
Pens had 7 turnovers in 2nd period, 9 for game
SSDG
2-0 Penguins
Malkin into zone, to Crosby gets it and a hard pass to Neal for deflection over King Henrik
finally, a PP goal
breaks 0-16 skid
wow…that was a bad skid
What a goal by Despres…..
GMTA
ahhh that was a sweet goal by Depres….set up by Duper
Maybe they should request to wear white at home.
shut out for Vokoun
He never looked rattled. Calm as a cucumber. Maybe it’s time for two in a row for Tomas.
Sid’s passes starting to connect. Maybe he is coming out of it. Engelland and Bortuzzo played well. Orpik took away Nash. Good game.
Stuart
Have a hunch Tomas will get the nod on Sunday against the Caps, former team and all.
much much better effort, good defensive detail by whole team, Vokoun stood tall
.
Pen 3-0 winners
See Eric, it’s not over yet. Like the Buccos, don’t live day to day.
