being an early afternoon game, this team seems to have issues with them.

I hope that changes today at home.

  4. Eric Bowser says:

Today’s song for Devils at Penguins

Sympathy for the Devil – by Rolling Stones

  5. Eric Bowser says:

Ray Shero’s first NHL draft as the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins took place during the 2006 Entry Draft, unfortunately, one could say since the first round, second overall selection of Jordan Staal, there has been one cold draft hovering over the Penguins prospect list.

Ten of 44 players drafted by Shero and his team of scouts have played at least one game in the NHL. Of the ten players, only three remain in the organization.

    Breakdown:
    3 Forwards:
Jordan Staal (06)- traded to Carolina, 120 goals
    Dustin Jeffrey (07) – 12 goals
Luca Caputi (07) – traded to Toronto, now AHL journeymen, 3 goals

    2 Goaltenders:
Chad Johnson (06) – traded to Rangers, backup G for Coyotes, 8 games
Alexandre Pechurskiy – was let go in KHL, 1 game in NHL as emergency goalie

    5 Defensemen:
    Simon Despres (09)- 23 games
    Robert Bortuzzo (07) – 7 games
Jake Muzzin (07) – went unsigned, Kings signed as free agent, 16 games
Carl Sneep (06) – traded to Dallas, 1 game
Brian Strait (06) – placed on waivers picked up by Islanders, 19 games

The below is a list of the current Penguins prospects at forward, not a glamorous group of players.

  6. Jandy says:

    Amen!

  7. Poz says:

Time to build off of the last win. Show consistency and that it was not a fluke. Get this one at home.

  8. LuckyNKentucky says:

Is this the Pirates’ thread or do we have to go to the Pitt one? :P

    Just kidding. Go Pens!

  9. 4 hours until puck is dropped.

10 DAYS UNTIL PITCHERS & CATCHERS REPORT TO PIRATE SPRING TRAINING

  10. Drew71 says:

    Hello, Mr. President.
    .
I don’t participate much on Pens threads. I root for them but don’t know enough to tell a 4th line winger from a wingnut. Maybe there is no difference.
    .
I don’t participate much on Pitt threads. i DON’T root for them.
    .
From TRIB-REVIEW coverage of PIRATES BASEBALL:
    .
Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington is non-committal about the likelihood of finalizing a deal with Francisco Liriano before the start of spring training, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The process continues,” Huntington said. “We have ongoing conversations. I’m not an oddsmaker, so I don’t know if it is likely or unlikely that we will add another pitcher.”
    .
On the content — ok, whatever.
    .
On Neal being Neal — you talk too freaking much and sound too flipping defensive.
    .
    Try this instead:
    .
Q 1 from Media re Liriano
    .
A 1 from Neal: Discussions are ongoing, nothing to report.
    .
Q 2 from Media re Liriano
    .
A 2 from Neal: Really, (insert name of reporter), I know no more than what I just shared.
    .
Q 3 from Media re Liriano.
    .
A 3 from Neal (tersely if you wish): I believe I just answered that.
    .

  11. Press Secretary Drew, your job awaits you at Federal Street!

  12. Drew71 says:

Do we have paragraph spaces now? I’ll try without periods:

    (trying)

If that didn’t work, you are you guys doing it? The periods are distracting.

  13. Drew71 says:

    whoopie!

  14. Drew71 says:

I believe I just answered that.

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

    Except for maybe Liriano.

  16. Drew71 says:

I believe I just answered that.

  17. Who put out the press release that Liriano and Bucs had re-worked his contract: Pirates or Liriano’s agent?

Whichever one did it should be made to listen to KISS recordings for 24 hours straight!

  18. Drew71 says:

    Good choice.

    KISS.

No rock n roll for THEM.

  19. Drew71 says:

    And besides.

    KISS doesn’t like baseball either.

  20. MLB Rumors says only 3 free agent catchers left: Rod Barajas, Chris Snyder and Matt Treanor.

What pops out at you from that group?!

  21. Drew71 says:

That Treanor needs to finish his career with the Pirates?

    And I mean FINISH it.

  22. Drew71 says:

So Spunkster hunts me down and then moseys off so some Kentucky woodpile.

    Or bourbon.

  23. Drew71 says:

The other two names made me cry.

  24. Rumbunter has up today a really interesting article/interview with Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez. They are training at IMG Academy in Bradenton and the interview is from that group. Good, positive read.

Maybe JAL can stumble by and add a link here.

  25. Eric Bowser says:

Rich Chere from The Star-Ledger reporting a few changes to Devils roster

    - LW Matt Anderson sent to AHL

    - Top 2 lines are changing to
    1st: Zubrus-Henrique-Kovalchuk
    2nd: Elias-Zajac-Clarkson

    - defenseman Peter Harrold will be playing RW

  26. Eric Bowser says:

Tedenby assigned to AHL as well. geesh, Lou is already messing around with guys.

  27. LuckyNKentucky says:

No bourbon. Not even The Devil’s Cut. I saw where they make that stuff. Doesn’t thrill me.

Had to run to the bank, Drew. They close at noon here on Sat. Streets are rolled up by 3.

  28. Drew71 says:

    Sure they are.

    Dinner time.

  29. LuckyNKentucky says:

Not on this thread. Naughty Groat!

  30. Jandy says:

Any links are welcome anytime :)

  31. Jandy says:

A D man playing wing…wow…sounds like Therien lol

  32. Dom says:

    Fleury is back in goal!

  33. Jandy says:

Let’s see what Boychuk can do

  34. Eric Bowser says:

I hope he does well considering Jeffrey played well with Malkin against NYR. Not thrilled with them just dumping Jeffrey to the side.

  35. Jandy says:

Eric, I agree…I can’t figure out what Jeffrey did to Bylsma

  36. Eric Bowser says:

    Pens start game with Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis-Despres-Letang.

  37. Thundercrack says:

Treanor is thinking that maybe he can get an overpriced contract from the Bucs.

  38. Jandy says:

Nice effort all around..,hope it starts to pay off for us

  39. Jandy says:

Kovalpunk hands us our first PP

  40. Jandy says:

    too much passing already

  41. Eric Bowser says:

Pens work their PP high in the offensive zone, way too much. This makes easy for the PK to pressure the points and get advantage situations for loose pucks and clear the zone or worse, SH scoring chances.

  42. Eric Bowser says:

Really dumb decision by Orpik to go for the hit in that spot in the defensive zone. The missed hit gave Kovalchuk a chance for a wicked one-timer that thankfully missed.

Big TIME save by Brodeur on Sutter with wide open net.

  43. Jandy says:

no score after the 1st. Doing a lot of positive things. See if it pays off next period.

  44. Eric Bowser says:

Playing well, just no goals to show for it. Still need to be better with the puck with 5 turnovers to Devils 1.

  45. Jandy says:

5 is better than 9 or 10….that said, need to improve…still..much better.

  46. tcb says:

Playing the Devils is always a chore. They play their system very well.

  47. Jandy says:

    NICE DIRTY GOAL

  48. Jandy says:

Brodeur totally robbed Sid on that save

  49. Jandy says:

    WOAH!

  50. Eric Bowser says:

1-0 Penguins, looks like Sutter will be credited with the goal.
    Assists Crosby and Malkin.

2-0 Kunitz scores unassisted as Volchenkov with terrible turnover as quick shot by Brodeur, who had no chance.

  51. Jandy says:

for being sick, that was a helluva fine goal by kunie

  52. LuckyNKentucky says:

I know. Just digging Groaty. :)

  53. Jandy says:

and here we go with a Sh goal smh

  54. sarah says:

    …and now a shorty…Geno lost his man.

  55. Jandy says:

    Paul Martin lookin good today

  56. Jandy says:

    Hi Sarah :)

  57. Jandy says:

Who was that took Sid’s feet out from under him?

  58. Eric Bowser says:

I thought it was 11, so that’s Gionta

  59. Jandy says:

someone needs to slam him hard

  60. Jandy says:

    bad giveaway by Kunitz

  61. Eric Bowser says:

After two periods, Penguins 2 – PP absurdity 1 (Devils)

    Turnovers: Pens 12 Devils 5

    PP – Pens 0/2 Devils 0/1

  62. sarah says:

Hey Jandy! New here – glad to join the group!

  63. Jandy says:

I see that they caught up to their turnovers

  64. Jandy says:

Good to see you…need more females here ;)

  65. sarah says:

Eric where do we find the turnover stat? Nhl.com somewhere? Thanks!

  66. sarah says:

Hah! I’ll try to do my part!

  67. Eric Bowser says:

    Here’s today’s NHL.com game summary
    http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2012020108

You take Pens giveaways + Devils takeaways = turnovers

  68. Eric Bowser says:

Here’s the season breakdown for turnovers

Game Pens TK Pens GV Opp TK Opp GV Pens Turnovers Opp Turnovers
    PIT at PHI 10 8 8 12 16 22
    PIT at NYR 7 5 5 7 10 14
    TOR at PIT 3 2 3 7 5 10

    NYI at PIT 4 11 6 2 17 6
    PIT at NYR 3 6 6 3 12 6

  69. Jandy says:

    Great!

  70. Jandy says:

    Tanger!

  71. Eric Bowser says:

    3-1
perfect play there. Work the play down low, cycle along the boards, Kunitz finds wide open Letang that moved into slot and fired a shot through Brodeur.

  72. Jandy says:

    You gotta bury that Duper!

  73. Jandy says:

    OOops that was Sid

  74. sarah says:

Excellent thanks….would love to see stats how they stack up v the rest of the league. Bylsma’ s scheme is a turnover machine vs speedy teams that time the breakout gap well.

  75. Dom says:

Just 12 shots on my man Fleury. Meanwhile, we have 23 shots on Brodeur.

  76. Eric Bowser says:

That insane shift by Crosby and Dupuis, Sid had 1:26 TOI

  77. Bizrow says:

Well, this one better be in the bag

  78. Eric Bowser says:

    4-1 Pens
Sid takes pass, skates into zone with Dupuis charging to net and he blows it by Brodeur

  79. sarah says:

I think I was the lone Chica on Dejan’ s chat Thursday! But he answered my question!

  80. Eric Bowser says:

    I surely hope so…..

  81. sarah says:

    Sidney!!!

  82. Jandy says:

Sid’s patience paid off. nice goal

  83. Jandy says:

    Nice!!!!!

  84. Jandy says:

    Amen!

  85. Jandy says:

    woah! Again!

  86. Eric Bowser says:

    Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bortuzzo bomb

    5-1

    great work by Crosby there

  87. Jandy says:

    Brodeur is rattled

  88. sarah says:

Apparently Pens have chased Marty more often than any other team…

  89. Jandy says:

    That’s cool..let’s chase him again :)

  90. Jandy says:

this is the chit p*sses me off…our PP and the opponent has the friggin puck! Grrr!

  91. Jandy says:

Fleury is in a zone now…love it

  92. sarah says:

    Don’t get m started on the pp…..

  93. Jandy says:

    Home win…about time…

  94. Bizrow says:

Thats two good ones in a row, now on to Washington

  95. Jandy says:

    I KNOW!!!!

  96. Eric Bowser says:

Pens way better with turnovers 13 to Devils 7

  97. LuckyNKentucky says:

So that’s the Devils’ first loss? No sympathy.

Now, does this turn to a Pirate thread, Jandy? :P

  98. Jandy says:

Anything you wanna talk about Spunky :)

  99. Eric Bowser says:

Was that a play on the music choice I posted, if so… very nice.

  100. LuckyNKentucky says:

    It was.

  101. LuckyNKentucky says:

I know. Just yankin’ your chain while you’re in a good mood after a win.

No Pirate stuff to talk about except Neal’s latest comments, which don’t mean anything.

  102. sarah says:

I want to look closer at TOs…not sure we have stats to help us….but turnovers are most important when they lead directly to quality opps for the bad guys….Pens gave up what 13 shots…so clearly TOs not a killer to it even tho they were more than NJ….bears further thought and discussion….

  103. Jandy says:

    Neal is an azzmunch lol
    Yank harder, SPunky lol

  104. LuckyNKentucky says:

    :)

  105. Jandy says:

OK off to the grocery store :)

  106. bpn8pitt says:

Shhhh. 1st place in the Atlantic.

  107. bpn8pitt says:

    Is my avatar working?

  108. bpn8pitt says:

    I’ll try later, I guess.

  109. Bizrow says:

    It takes 10-20 minutes

  110. scapper says:

Good for Sid for taking that penalty at the end there. I don’t think it was so much for the hit on Geno as it was for the unnecessarily hard hits they laid on Pens when there were under 3 minutes left. Game was out of reach at that point and both teams were pretty much playing it out, but the Devils went WAY too hard a couple of times. No call for that crap at that point in the game. Sid was being a captain right there.

  111. LuckyNKentucky says:

    It is. Nice.

  112. Bizrow says:

    Like +1

  113. Eric Bowser says:

For those of you who missed the Bortuzzo goal, please check out my breakdown on the outstanding work by Crosby, Kunitz and Dupuis to win the battle along the boards to get the puck up to the point for the Bortuzzo bomb.

    http://pittsburghfancentral.blogspot.com/2013/02/crosby-lines-hard-work-on-bortuzzo-goal.html

  114. Jandy says:

I got the last question in…we chicas need to stick together!
