  3. Today’s song for Devils at Penguins

Sympathy for the Devil – by Rolling Stones

  4. Ray Shero’s first NHL draft as the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins took place during the 2006 Entry Draft, unfortunately, one could say since the first round, second overall selection of Jordan Staal, there has been one cold draft hovering over the Penguins prospect list.

Ten of 44 players drafted by Shero and his team of scouts have played at least one game in the NHL. Of the ten players, only three remain in the organization.

    Breakdown:
    3 Forwards:
Jordan Staal (06)- traded to Carolina, 120 goals
    Dustin Jeffrey (07) – 12 goals
Luca Caputi (07) – traded to Toronto, now AHL journeymen, 3 goals

    2 Goaltenders:
Chad Johnson (06) – traded to Rangers, backup G for Coyotes, 8 games
Alexandre Pechurskiy – was let go in KHL, 1 game in NHL as emergency goalie

    5 Defensemen:
    Simon Despres (09)- 23 games
    Robert Bortuzzo (07) – 7 games
Jake Muzzin (07) – went unsigned, Kings signed as free agent, 16 games
Carl Sneep (06) – traded to Dallas, 1 game
Brian Strait (06) – placed on waivers picked up by Islanders, 19 games

The below is a list of the current Penguins prospects at forward, not a glamorous group of players.

  5. Time to build off of the last win. Show consistency and that it was not a fluke. Get this one at home.

  6. Is this the Pirates’ thread or do we have to go to the Pitt one? :P

    Just kidding. Go Pens!

    • Hello, Mr. President.
      .
I don’t participate much on Pens threads. I root for them but don’t know enough to tell a 4th line winger from a wingnut. Maybe there is no difference.
      .
I don’t participate much on Pitt threads. i DON’T root for them.
      .
From TRIB-REVIEW coverage of PIRATES BASEBALL:
      .
Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington is non-committal about the likelihood of finalizing a deal with Francisco Liriano before the start of spring training, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The process continues,” Huntington said. “We have ongoing conversations. I’m not an oddsmaker, so I don’t know if it is likely or unlikely that we will add another pitcher.”
      .
On the content — ok, whatever.
      .
On Neal being Neal — you talk too freaking much and sound too flipping defensive.
      .
      Try this instead:
      .
Q 1 from Media re Liriano
      .
A 1 from Neal: Discussions are ongoing, nothing to report.
      .
Q 2 from Media re Liriano
      .
A 2 from Neal: Really, (insert name of reporter), I know no more than what I just shared.
      .
Q 3 from Media re Liriano.
      .
A 3 from Neal (tersely if you wish): I believe I just answered that.
      .

    • So Spunkster hunts me down and then moseys off so some Kentucky woodpile.

      Or bourbon.

  7. 4 hours until puck is dropped.

10 DAYS UNTIL PITCHERS & CATCHERS REPORT TO PIRATE SPRING TRAINING

  8. Do we have paragraph spaces now? I’ll try without periods:

    (trying)

If that didn’t work, you are you guys doing it? The periods are distracting.

  9. MLB Rumors says only 3 free agent catchers left: Rod Barajas, Chris Snyder and Matt Treanor.

What pops out at you from that group?!

  10. Rumbunter has up today a really interesting article/interview with Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez. They are training at IMG Academy in Bradenton and the interview is from that group. Good, positive read.

Maybe JAL can stumble by and add a link here.

  11. Rich Chere from The Star-Ledger reporting a few changes to Devils roster

    - LW Matt Anderson sent to AHL

    - Top 2 lines are changing to
    1st: Zubrus-Henrique-Kovalchuk
    2nd: Elias-Zajac-Clarkson

    - defenseman Peter Harrold will be playing RW

  12. A D man playing wing…wow…sounds like Therien lol

  13. Fleury is back in goal!

  14. Let’s see what Boychuk can do

  15. Eric, I agree…I can’t figure out what Jeffrey did to Bylsma

  16. Pens start game with Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis-Despres-Letang.

  17. Nice effort all around..,hope it starts to pay off for us

  18. Kovalpunk hands us our first PP

  19. too much passing already

  20. Pens work their PP high in the offensive zone, way too much. This makes easy for the PK to pressure the points and get advantage situations for loose pucks and clear the zone or worse, SH scoring chances.

  21. Really dumb decision by Orpik to go for the hit in that spot in the defensive zone. The missed hit gave Kovalchuk a chance for a wicked one-timer that thankfully missed.

Big TIME save by Brodeur on Sutter with wide open net.

  22. no score after the 1st. Doing a lot of positive things. See if it pays off next period.

  23. Playing well, just no goals to show for it. Still need to be better with the puck with 5 turnovers to Devils 1.

  24. 5 is better than 9 or 10….that said, need to improve…still..much better.

  25. Playing the Devils is always a chore. They play their system very well.

  26. NICE DIRTY GOAL

  27. Brodeur totally robbed Sid on that save

  28. 1-0 Penguins, looks like Sutter will be credited with the goal.
    Assists Crosby and Malkin.

2-0 Kunitz scores unassisted as Volchenkov with terrible turnover as quick shot by Brodeur, who had no chance.

  29. for being sick, that was a helluva fine goal by kunie

  30. and here we go with a Sh goal smh

  31. …and now a shorty…Geno lost his man.

  32. Paul Martin lookin good today

  33. Who was that took Sid’s feet out from under him?

  34. someone needs to slam him hard

  35. bad giveaway by Kunitz

  36. After two periods, Penguins 2 – PP absurdity 1 (Devils)

    Turnovers: Pens 12 Devils 5

    PP – Pens 0/2 Devils 0/1

  37. I see that they caught up to their turnovers

  38. Here’s the season breakdown for turnovers

Game Pens TK Pens GV Opp TK Opp GV Pens Turnovers Opp Turnovers
    PIT at PHI 10 8 8 12 16 22
    PIT at NYR 7 5 5 7 10 14
    TOR at PIT 3 2 3 7 5 10
    PIT at WPG 1 9 10 7 19 8
    PIT at OTT 9 9 12 9 21 18
    NYI at PIT 4 11 6 2 17 6
    PIT at NYR 3 6 6 3 12 6

  39. 3-1
perfect play there. Work the play down low, cycle along the boards, Kunitz finds wide open Letang that moved into slot and fired a shot through Brodeur.

  40. You gotta bury that Duper!

  41. OOops that was Sid

  42. Just 12 shots on my man Fleury. Meanwhile, we have 23 shots on Brodeur.

  43. That insane shift by Crosby and Dupuis, Sid had 1:26 TOI

  44. Well, this one better be in the bag

  45. 4-1 Pens
Sid takes pass, skates into zone with Dupuis charging to net and he blows it by Brodeur

  46. Sid’s patience paid off. nice goal

  47. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bortuzzo bomb

    5-1

    great work by Crosby there

  48. Brodeur is rattled

  49. Apparently Pens have chased Marty more often than any other team…

  50. this is the chit p*sses me off…our PP and the opponent has the friggin puck! Grrr!

  51. Fleury is in a zone now…love it

  52. Home win…about time…

  53. Thats two good ones in a row, now on to Washington

  54. Pens way better with turnovers 13 to Devils 7

    • I want to look closer at TOs…not sure we have stats to help us….but turnovers are most important when they lead directly to quality opps for the bad guys….Pens gave up what 13 shots…so clearly TOs not a killer to it even tho they were more than NJ….bears further thought and discussion….

  55. So that’s the Devils’ first loss? No sympathy.

Now, does this turn to a Pirate thread, Jandy? :P

  56. Anything you wanna talk about Spunky :)

    • I know. Just yankin’ your chain while you’re in a good mood after a win.

No Pirate stuff to talk about except Neal’s latest comments, which don’t mean anything.

  57. Neal is an azzmunch lol
    Yank harder, SPunky lol

  58. OK off to the grocery store :)

  59. Shhhh. 1st place in the Atlantic.

  60. Is my avatar working?

  61. Good for Sid for taking that penalty at the end there. I don’t think it was so much for the hit on Geno as it was for the unnecessarily hard hits they laid on Pens when there were under 3 minutes left. Game was out of reach at that point and both teams were pretty much playing it out, but the Devils went WAY too hard a couple of times. No call for that crap at that point in the game. Sid was being a captain right there.

  62. For those of you who missed the Bortuzzo goal, please check out my breakdown on the outstanding work by Crosby, Kunitz and Dupuis to win the battle along the boards to get the puck up to the point for the Bortuzzo bomb.
