Looking ahead to faceoff …
Game: Penguins (7-3) vs. Washington Capitals (2-7-1)
Time: 7:08 p.m.
Site: Consol Energy Center
TV, radio: Root Sports, NHL Network (national), WXDX-FM 105.9
Here is the official live box score.
Here is the Trib’s Penguins page. Rob Rossi and Josh Yohe are on the scene.

Let’s go Pens!
Ovie breaks out and gets 2 tonight.
Sid will have to be good for Pens to overcome!
Tim Thomas dealt to the Islanders for a 2nd round pick.
That pick is conditional.
Garth Snow is a genius.
Who wouldn’t want to lock up a soon to be 39 year old flake of a goaltender for next year, coming off a year layoff, with a $5 million salary, in a year when the cap will be going down $6 million.
It’s like the Islanders want to perpetually fail by continually doing stupid things with their goaltender position. I guess Thomas and Dipietro can help control the vermin problem in the bowels of the decrepit Nassau Coliseum
Tim Thomas will never play a game for the Islanders. The Islanders were below the cap floor so the contract brings them up to the minimum.
So the Islanders gave up a conditional 2nd round pick to take on 3mil in salary that will never play for you but we couldn’t get more than a 5th for Lovejoy? I’m not busting on Shero here; I think Snow is an idiot. Maybe they can sign Thomas to a 20 year deal.
Excited the game is on the network. Islanders/Pens is one of my favorite rivalries in sport.
Meant Caps/Pens obviously.

I’m following at Davis-Monthan AFB AZ in Tucson
Kris Letang is out tonight.
Bummer, hope its just one game
you and me both!
Looked like interference on Ovi’s goal.
Home crowd obviously to blame for Penguins early deficit.
Maybe the Pens should go after Ovechkin. Looks life a different skater on Consol’s ice.
Argh-I hate auto spellcheck sometimes.
Coming up in the 1st intermission – Dan Potash with Dylan Reese’s kindergarten teacher.
This Zach Boychuk does absolutely nothing.
That was one pathetic period of hockey by the home team.
FIRE, oh you know…
I miss Bowser’s commentary on these hockey threads. How dare he go to Philly for work.
They don’t have internet in Philly ?
He’s probably in full blown schmooze mode right now. Working on a big deal or something.
Or at the hotel bar.
or getting mugged
Hotel bar was first. Then to Chickie and Pete’s
John – thanks, glad you liked the comments. I will be back this weekend.
5 shots & 5 hits in the 1st period on home ice.
Need to split those two up on the power play.
Jandy agrees.
Awesome avatar Lucky.
Thanks. Their “new” logo, rumored to be finished with a Sharpie.
Buckeyes!
darn right i do
The Beltway Butcher appears awake tonight.
Exactly one year from tonight will Dan Bylsma be coaching the US Men’s team in Sochi?
Goaltending change ? Oatsey panic much ?
DK: Bizarre, huh?
I know Neuvirth was deep on both goals, but man …
Neal shoots low.
Crosby’s going to get one tonight. That’s really going out on a limb, huh.
Great call on Sid’s goal…..
Wow…Just turned the Pens game on, only to see 2 quick goals. Impressive
Interesting 2nd period for the Pens and perplexing by the Caps…..curious goalie change, but the good guys have 4 goals…..
… and there’s Sid’s goal.
That sound you hear is the Caps sucking.
and the smell?
Probably Ovie.
I’m sure you’re right
Rumor has it that the Caps have hired Ray Lewis to be spiritual advisor in hopes that he can “save” their season as well.
I’m not sure Oates will survive the season and there might be a major overhaul of that organization after the season. Far away from the 09-10 President Trophy winners.
Isn’t it interesting how their former coach is in Anaheim which is tied for 2nd in the league for points? Does not help when the best player in the world “ovie” went missing. He went missing like some of the baseball players went missing after the steroids were clamped down on… Hmm could Ovie have used PED’s?
Glad he missed on that break away!
like
I wish Glass would knock Ovechicken into next season
Couple of non-pens related notes:
1. Islanders acquire Tim Thomas from the Bruins for a conditional 2nd rd pick — evidently this helps the Islanders get to the cap floor
2. Ravens to build a statue in honor of Ray Lewis — no word on whether he will have Antlers or not
Well, that was some 2nd period. Not quite Thanksgiving Eve 1972, but great nonetheless.
Holtby has to be feeling real good that there is onliy one more game between the Pens and Caps this season. He doesn’t seem to be able to handle the presssure…..
Jim Carey 2.0
Saw some of the game at Chickie and Pete’s in Philly as I asked to have it on. Yeah, who is going to mess with me 6′ 210 lbs. lol.
Listened to some of third period on Iheart radio app. Awesome
Can’t wait to be home.
Hope you had the fries !
Absolutely. Also had pork sandwich and two Magic Hat #9 draft beers.
I love #9. Great beer.
First time having it, I liked it.
Phil Kessel finally scored. Holy Mackinaw.
So. I just want to make sure we have our stories straight.
I’m a fan but not a hockey guy. So I gotta rely on you guys for this.
Are we firing the GM, the coach or the power play?
They’re all getting secret contract extensions that will be announced during the 2nd intermission of a playoff game from the Root Sports spacestation. Wait, I think I just got my management teams confused.
None of the above…we’re firing the jets…5 goals in one period.. YIKES!
