Storylines for tonight’s matchup
- Penguins need to own home ice (3-3-0)
- Vokoun (3-2-0) gets his first start since 2/10 vs NJ, stopped 20/23
- Bortuzzo was knocked silly last year by Rinaldo, curious to see if those two hook up
- Crosby (24 pts) vs Giroux (13 pts), who captains their team to an important victory
Here’s hoping the Pens don’t try to show off too much on home ice…..
Real good start for Pens working puck low and getting puck to the net and with traffic.
Shoot the puck and good things happen
1-0 Pens
Letang shot deflected out to Niskanen and he blasted it.
7-2 shots. Simple is good.
Where’s Laviolette’s orange tie ? Looks like he’s dressed for a funeral.
Wow what a board. Ejection?
DK: No definition of boarding anymore. None.
Players have no idea and doesn’t look like refs do either.
Dejan – Have you tried to get someone in NHL to provide explanation?
Geno second times the charm!
LOVE IT!!!
2-0 Penguins
Malkin has goal taken away (common sense doesn’t exist in NHL) but buries another that they can’t take away.
I’m kinda sorta glad they didn’t award him that goal…and he got the clean one…just so the Flyers couldn’t be Criers about it.
They’ll p-ss n moan anyway lol!
true!
Are you kidding me?????
Phil 9 is in the crease that entire sequence. Wth?
H*ll , he was riding Vokoun’s back , isnt’ that interference???
I’m getting flashbacks to Monday night’s Pitt game.
W. T. F.
sheesh! I’m with you Sarah!
Penguins have to STOP blowing 2-0 leads….
Amen!
No D within 15 ft of Vokoun. Beer league.
Why is it the name of Schenn makes the player an azzmunch?
They will just never learn their lesson about this extra curricular crap. Maybe they need to lose like 10-2 & that will teach them.
somehow I doubt they will ever learn when it comes to the Flyers
I can’t believe Glass took on Simmonds….wow….
Pens now descending to Phil’s level. Just what Laviolette wants.
yeah we gotta settle down.
Penguins are a wreck in their zone right now
This is where I just can’t believe they’re a disciplined enough group for playoff 7 Game series……
Let’s bet no one questions Bylsma for the team constantly blowing 2-0 leads, having spurts like the one they just had giving up 10 shots and 2 goals in short period. Those are the things that happened late last season and in the playoffs.
At what point is he going to recognize a problem and fix it.
Yep. He needs to be fired after the 1st period.
I haven’t changed my opinion… Bylsma should be fired
Recogizing is easy. Fixing not so much.
Well I thought if they didn’t learn last spring they never will. Unless they get a new HC. Which I guess is a strong possibility if its another short playoffs. They can’t afford early exits, and there’s been 3 straight now.
Flyers are sucking the Pens right into their game. Byslma needs to stop it now…. make the adjustment
They seem to be cutting off passes to the middle….Pens keep trying to stretch instead of brining FSLIC back closer…..thoughts?
Erm forwards back closer! Damn you auto correct!
Jandy,
I think I have the same affinity for this Zac Rinaldo clown that you do for the Schenn brothers.
Milo, actually Rinaldo is lower than BOTH the Schenns. He’s in the class of a Carcillo ~ animal!
OK. I have the word but I want to keep it clean. Starts with a “p”.
and rhymes with brick
Bingo.
This is all Drew’s fault…where the heck is he???
Four sets of eyes out there & nobody saw that ?
it’s called intentionally blind.
Flyers initiated everything after the 2-0 deficit… same thing as last season.
Let’s hope intermission gets them settled down. Can’t keep biting all the Flyers’ taunts…gotta shrug it off and play hockey.
I have my doubts that Bylsma walks into that room at intermission and says the things that need to be said. It happened how many times last season, he didn’t learn and they’ve blown 2-0 leads now what… 5 or 6 times already this season?
Continuing to lose your mind defensively has to be a concern.
Well I’ve never heard that that is his style. He’s a technocrat.
Not the best approach when the problems are discipline/emotion-based….
Pens were out hit 10-3 in the 1st period. You just should never get out hit on your home rink.
It’s so easy to see that and I have no idea why the Pens just accept getting pushed around. Really weak effort in the last 10 mins of 1st period.
PHL gets in their head. Pens are not a mentally tough team.
At all.
That’s a ridiculous thing to say.
Really? I don’t agree. They lose their composure way too easily, Esp v PHL. That is not mental toughness. For that, see NJD.
Sorry. I left my psychology degree in the other room.
The Flyers are forechecking hard & that’s how you beat the Penguins. Put pressure on their defense & force them to cough up the puck. I’d credit it to good coaching but it’s certainly no secret.
Things have really settled down. Flyers have only 3 shots in the 2nd period. Must be a coincidence, I’m sure no adjustments were made.
The game is tied…this is unacceptable. FIRE EVERYONE!!!!
Now we’re losing 3-2 THAT is unacceptable >:/
love the passive PK
DK: Tough to watch, huh?
Nothing like a last minute goal. I really hate watching us play PHL.
The “elbow” that brought on the power play might have been the most unacceptable thing to this point tonight.
it was a terrible penalty
Jason Grilli says management did not have the Pens’ backs during the first intermission.
LOL Osh Kosh, don’t get me started!
like
Is it time to put this on Scrapper yet?
C’mon Pens-get IT together!
It must warm the hearts of any Penguins prospect knowing you will get recalled, have more talent than some, and be attached to the bench.
Beau Bennett is a top six winger, yet Bylsma has him still on the third line and tonight, he’s barely played.
Include Despres in that. What redeeming value does Engelland have that means more wins for the Penguins?
Better at absorbing cheap shots from Rinaldo?….
>(
Are u effing kidding me?
What a gorgeous city at night. No matter what, Philly can never beat an aerial view of the Golden Triangle!
Better view than watching this game
Don’t watch a lot of hockey, but the last time I watched, this back-up goalie got burned being way out of position, and now it’s twice.
if we don’t get back in the game now, shame on us for six weeks
6 weeks comin up….
there’s one
shhhhh no jinxes!
THE REAL DEAL!
Ca-razy game!!!
Time to tie this mother up! Electric scene
uh oh Mad Max is pissed lol
That’s what I’m talking about!!!
Don’t waive it!
did Kunitz kick it? make contact?
are you kidding me???
we can still score another…c’mon guys!
Kicking it in should be legal. We need to get that rule changed. Unfortunately, that can’t help us now.
Gotta get a point here. Need to tie this one up.
GOAL!!!!!!!!
No kicking there! Unbelievable
Now hold them down…score one more guys!!!!!
Oh my.
Ugh!
AAARRRGGHHH!!! WTH is wrong with Vokoun???
Entertaining America. SMH.
That one hurt.
un-eff-ing believable
Truly deja vu to last spring. Incredible.
Bet this jump starts Philly…..
I’m so angry I could just scream.
If these two meet in the playoffs, not sure my cardiologist will let me watch it. Sorry about the outcome but that was a heckuva way to spend 2 1/2 hours!
I agree, with all the good and bad in the game I was impressed we came back after being down by 2 goals. We showed a little heart which I was not counting on. Still wish we won the game. It it was a good one to watch.
Agreed on the heart. But I just don’t see how we beat these guys in the playoffs. Seems like they can score at will when needed the most.
Two points:
1. I hate to say it, because I have loved the guy’s character and locker room presence over the years, but Orpik is just too slow anymore — particularly laterally and in puck reaction time — to continue on the PK. Thought some of it was attributable to an undisclosed injury towards the end of last year, but now convinced otherwise.
2. Note to Danny B: Please stop overthinking this and play Simon Depres on a consistent basis. This business of not playing him against Buffalo and Philly because Bortuzzo is perceived to have a greater physical presence has to stop. Speed and skills count for something.
Gee, why? Just because Brooks was on the ice for 4 of the Flyers goals, pretty much all scored with him nearby?
DK: Had an awful game. But context is fair: Orpik’s been very good this season.
Have isolated on Brooks this year and just not seeing it on PK. It’s not just his lateral movement — which is nil — his reaction time to loose pucks around the crease has deeply fallen off. Just calling it like I see it, and as one of his bigger fans.
Despite the rosy picture painted recently by resident Pens ‘expert’ Rob Rossi, this club is no closer to being a contender than it was last spring. And that is to say it isn’t one at all. Lack maturity, fall apart at first sign of adversity, and zero killer instinct–all clear signs of a team which lacks leadership.
