DK,
Greatly enjoyed the content on the Trib Live Show today. I lasted until about midway through the final section.
By way of feedback though: There are Way Way Way Way Way too many “commercials”. The fact that it is just one person “reading” all of them makes them less effective also. Hearing the same voice over and over tends one to tune out this portion. Since there are so many of them, it takes a huge effort to last through all of them to hear the content.
Bottom line: Content was interesting and generally great. Too many commercials.
just sayin.

DK,
BTW, that is the most energized Chryst has been. Rossi was good also. Looking forward to your reports from Fla.
Stuart
DK: Thanks, Stuart, regarding the show!
Is this Drew’s Pitt-South Florida thread?
I just wonder if when the Pitt- South Florida thread does return whether the comments from its early appearance will still be there.
If it is, it’s in camoflage
No sir. This is my Duquesne thread.
- NHL realignment – love it!
- Marc Bergevin with great trade to deal Erik Cole with 2-yrs remaining to Dallas for 2013 3rd round pick and future unrestricted free agent Michael Ryder.
- Not sure what the Flyers are thinking re-acquiring Simon Gagne from the Kings as they take on salary and give up a conditional fourth round pick. Philadelphia has zero cap space now according to Capgeek.
- Penguins signed Mark Eaton putting the team at eight defensemen. Someone has to be on the block or Despres is going to be sent to WBS since he can be sent without having to clear waivers.
- Hopefully Penguins play the Panthers smart and don’t get themselves mixed up with revenge for a hockey hit on Evgeni Malkin by Erik Gudbranson.
Penguins D pairings tonight…
Orpik – Martin
Niskanen – Letang
Engelland – Bortuzzo
…. Despres scratched again.
Kunitz – Crosby – Neal
Bennett – Sutter – Dupuis
Cooke – Jeffrey – Kennedy
Glass – Vitale – Adams
You sure Eric? Bennett demoted to 3rd line?
WTH?
There’s no one in Florida for this game… terrible.
Lots of north-south skating…not much else….yet…
Not much passing
1-0 Panthers
Kennedy penalty (dumb) for checking on an icing. Campbell with half slapper on goal, easy easy rebound off Vokoun and Kopecky has easy tap-in.
looked pretty bad
Man I hope someone wakes these guys up. They look like Penn State could beat them
Sleep walking, so far. I don’t see much energy.
Seriously, I didn’t see this as I didn’t hit refresh when I posted my comment.
Pens are sleepwalking in Florida.
Great minds think alike, I guess.
Yawn.
DK: One gets the idea they’re doing that right now in the visitors’ locker room, too.
dEAR lORD…PATHETIC
Just got a look at the realignment. Hate it. The playoffs are so convoluted, only the NHL could think this is a good idea. Hate it. Switch Winnipeg & Columbus & leave the rest alone.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opinion/2013/02/nhl-drops-4-conference-realignment-plan.html
The big “concession” from the league is that they’re going to call them divisions instead of conferences. What a clustermess.
DK: What don’t you like?
Leave it to the NHL to try to reinvent the wheel & make it square. Why so set on 4 whatever they’re calling them this week – divisions or conferences. And what’s the allure of the 80′s playoff set up ?
Obviously Detroit were made promises (that’s Canadian).
Did the NHL learn nothing from the MLB NL Central. Why would you do all this realignment to leave one conference with 14 teams and one with 16. Detroit should be in the midwest but I can see they want in a division in the same time zone. Maybe just find anywhere in the central timezone to send florida and put them in the midwest division. How can you have that many empty seats with Crosby playing and deserve to keep a hockey team!
dEAR lORD…PATHETIC
Thank goodness Vokoun got yanked. I like the guy…but wth is wrong with him the last couple games??
Speaking of goaltending, Theodore hasn’t exactly been Ken Dryden tonight.
no he hasn’t. luckily for the Pens
Now, there will be no goals scored until the shootout.
DAYUM! Ice storm killed my Dish reception. no game :/
Did anyone hear if anything happened between Troy Brouwer and Alexander Semin during the Caps/Canes game? Brouwer really threw him under the bus with his comments to the media. Don’t see dirty laundry aired publicly like that very often in today’s sports world.
Troy spoke truth ;X
The penalty killing is a real concern. They had dropped to 17th before this mess tonight. I’ll blame it on what I all of their problems on. Managements refusal (unless you count Mark Eaton) to address their substandard defense corps.
Florida’s hockey television studio broadcaster is named Allsion Williams.
NBC news anchor Brian Williams has a daughter named Allison Williams who stars in HBO’s “Girls.”
That is your odd pop culture note for the day.
New net minder for Fla in the third.
Are you kidding me??
Ugh. And the tens of people at the game jump up in excitement as Fla goes up 5-4
Should have left the TV off.
heck yeah!
Jonathan Huberdeau won’t be twenty years old for 3 1/2 months.
Going to be a good one.
he’s looks darn good tonight
While folks are happy with the Pens, I see a team with a terrible PK 17th, 10th most penalties PK chances, blown 2-goal leads, a statue for 6th defenseman (Engelland) getting ice time over Despres, Vokoun has given up too many goals (PHI/FLA games not exactly all on him), Tyler Kennedy is a lost soul without Jordan Staal, too many pucks just given away by stretch passes that creates counter-attack chances for opposition, and Beau Bennett scores 5on3 goal against Lightning but sees little PP time tonight.
I could go on… but I’m going to just cross my arms like Bylsma does behind the bench and go into my passive mode like the PK.
How dare you see the obvious! Now, drink your kool aid, squint your eyes and watch the game with the rest of the obtuse, stepford zealots…I mean, Pens fans.
After this performance, I’m labeling this the 4th installment this season for “it is just one game” or so some will want to say.
Yup, don’t know what’s worse, that, or “it’s still early”. But don’t worry, “They’ll get em next time”. lol
Let’s all gush over Letang’s skating abilities with Lange. Who care if he turns the puck over like it’s his job.
yes yes and yes, couldn’t have summed it up better myself Eric. Why Crosby is ever on the left wall on the power play is mindboggling. Let’s see, a righthanded shot would be nice over there, hmmm, do we have anyone like that? Oh Bennett, and he scored last game? well let’s not do that again!
I’ll say it until I can says it no mo…Regardless of the score at the end, this is why the Pens won’t be successful in the playoffs and if I’m Bylsma, I’m throwing $hit in the locker room after the game. No excuse to play that kinda of road game against a struggling team who’s out key players. They just don’t get it, or don’t care, or both and will never learn at this rate and if I’m Mario and Shero and Bylsma doesn’t rip into them, then he should be putting his house up for sale and looking though the help wanted ads now.
And Tanner Glass brings what exactly ?
another Arron Asham…
How did they not score during that flurry?
If I had the answer to that Pens would win nearly every game…
::sigh:::
It’s just one game.
a very ugly one at that….on that note ~ good night!
Captain Obvious Mike Lange says that empty netter “might” have put the Pens out of the game. Really? Ya think?
Pathetic performance. This team is an extreme disappointment from the front office on down.
Can’t wait for Crosby’s tired, old and predictable statements after this one. Yet another player on a sub .500 team nets a hat trick against the Pens.
same old problems
Have always been a Bylsma supporter, but I think it is time to give Tony Granato a shot.
I think what this team needs is a Mike Keenan. They need someone to crack the whip again. Someone who will demote a player or cut his ice time regardless of who it is if he does something stupid or fails to listen because this team just isn’t getting it.
The perfect end to the perfect day.
When you lose 6-4 to the Florida Panthers…. you’ve got problems.
They just need more offense. If Geno was healthy, it coulda shoulda been 7-6 Pens.
I’m sure the injury excuse will be rolled out there by those who refuse to see clearly…namely; the talking heads on The Fan’s morning show. Don’t believe me, just listen tomorrow.
Oops. Thought this was the Penguins thread, but apparently I stumbled onto another Pirates thread where there is talk about Koolaid and the FO. My bad.
After 4 years, I think Byslma has very little to offer the Penguins that the league hasn’t already figured out about this team under his guidance. The players are tuning him out, there’s no accountability, no discipline, and just the same old problems.
Come playoff time, you can’t hide the third D pairing, you can’t have a PK more passive than Switzerland, can’t keep taking penalties, and can’t have a backup goalie unable to stop the puck.
Outstanding stat that shows how passive the Pens are on the PK
…they don’t have a SH shot on goal in the last 15 games…..
PATHETIC
DK: No way! For real?
This team lacks aggression…on either end of the ice. When’s the last time this team just forechecked the other team into submission and really just out worked them? That used to be more the identity of the 2008-2009 teams. Now, it’s get in, get a shot on goal and chase the other team up the ice (while getting caught flat-footed and drawing a dumb penalty to boot). No sustained attack to speak of. Someone’s always sure to make a bad pass, or lose a battle for the puck along the boards, or in the corners and it’s heading the other way in numbers. To much finesse, not enough testicular fortitude, or what we used to call “work ethic”.
