  1. Pucknutz says:

Gotta get it in: Go Pens!

    Morrow for Morrow ? Hmmmmm.

  2. JohninOshkosh says:

It’s always a great day to beat Philadelphia.

  3. sjb says:

Outside of Iginla, Brenden Morrow is the trade deadline player I most liked for the Pens ans their current situation. Another former captain and role model player who will bring them great leadership on and off the ice with solid veteran play and goal scoring capabilities. Joe Morrow was a good prospect but the Pens still have plenty of D prospects, and prospects are for the future. Joe Morrow isn’t going t help this team this season or probably even next so even if he pans out to be a solid pickup for the Stars, you just can’t fault the Pens for making this deal. This isn’t the Pirates people, no reason to hoard ridiculously for the future when a cup is within their reach now and it’s not like this leaves them hurting for future prospects even if this doesn’t get them the cup. I guess the Pens will have to fall back on the other half dozen or so D prospects in the pipeline now.

I also like the fact that he choose the Pens trade option over the Bruins which makes the Bruins less threatening if they meet in the playoffs. I just hope they don’t land Iginla instead. Now the Pens can focus on maybe a 3rd, fourth liner and a top 4 shutdown defenseman over the next 10 days.

  4. sjb says:

Please excuse my bad typing, I was excited. lol ;)

  5. Milo Hamilton says:

Good general managers have a knack of trading their “prospects” before everyone else realizes they stink.

  6. Eric Bowser says:

I’m reading a ton of revisionist Penguins fans talking about the prospect value and status of Joe Morrow. Pretty funny considering many said he was untouchable unless a long-term winger is acquired… what happens but a rental type and they still love it.

I wanted Morrow, pretty sure I had his name in one of my posts awhile back but just surprised the cost was the top D prospect.

  7. Pucknutz says:

Just a note on the face shield issue: I think its a no brainer, 70% or more of the players are wearing them already. Just “grandfather” it in like they did with helmets years ago.

Thinking about the “grandfather helmet” issue caused this old fart to have a blast from the past flashback.

I am seeing Ron Dugay flying around the old Igloo ice , 86, 87 I think, those long curly locks windswept behind him! One of the last few guys not to wear a helmet.
Played pretty well with the Rangers not so much with the Pens – but the ladies just LOVED him!!! LOL

Attempted to paste a picture but would not take it, not that I have a clue about that stuff!

  8. Jandy says:

    H*ll yeah!!!

  9. sjb says:

Rentals are always expensive in that fashion, but who knows, Billy G was signed by the Pens, so who knows if Morrow will be signed by the Pens after this season or not. If he fits well, he might be affordable enough since he’s only making $4 million now. Plus; the Pens moved a 5th round pick for a 3rd. Not bad.

I guess the Pens will have to suffer and make do with all their other 1st round and highly touted D prospects.

  10. Jandy says:

It’s a good thing to have a reason to be excited!

  11. sjb says:

How many games have the Pens won against Philly in their Blue jerseys?

  12. Jandy says:

Craig McTavish sticks in my head as being among the last to not wear helmets. But he didn’t have the hair Dugay did.

  13. Jandy says:

    Eric?

  14. Eric Bowser says:

Jeffrey with two good chances but can’t get the puck on net.

  15. JohninOshkosh says:

Nationally televised game…so tragically denied the pleasure of Coatesy observations.

  16. sjb says:

    No. Just curious actually.

  17. Jandy says:

No I meant Eric might know that lol

  18. Jandy says:

    ::snicker::

  19. Eric Bowser says:

No idea… I hate those jerseys though.

Team colors are black and gold (yellow)

  20. sjb says:

    Sad, I know.

  21. sjb says:

    Oh. lol

  22. Eric Bowser says:

If Pens can keep the puck down low against Flyers defense, they are going to wear down and Pens speed and skill will then pounce on open ice for scoring chances.

  23. Jandy says:

I’m not wild about the blue either, even tho I have a light blue Crosby jersey

  24. sjb says:

Pens missing on a lot of decent scoring chances.

  25. Eric Bowser says:

I have a light blue Malkin jersey but these jerseys… ugh.

  26. JohninOshkosh says:

    Like.

  27. Eric Bowser says:

They have 5 scoring chances that haven’t resulted with a shot on goal, get the puck on net and score or rebound chance.

  28. sjb says:

Crosby Sucks! Crosby Sucks!…oppps, sorry…I just thought something was clearly missing until I realized they weren’t playing in Phillthy. ;)

  29. sjb says:

Unreal the bush league crap the Flyers use to delay the game and the officials allow it. Surprised the goalie didn’t have equipment issues as well.

  30. sjb says:

Nice to see the officials even up their own non-call with a ticky-tack call against the Flyers…should have just called them for delay of game when they should have when they put 6 men out on the ice..

  31. TJ says:

I’m confused about the backlash on the Morrow for Morrow trade.

Anyone we would have acquired would have required at least a first round pick. We gave up 2 #1 picks for the Hossa rental.

I’d imagine this takes us out of the Iginla sweepstakes but still have our draft picks to use in order to go after a defenseman if thats what they decide to do.

Besides Shero owed the Stars a little after the Neal deal…lol

  32. TJ says:

I see we get their 3rd and they get our 5th as well.

  33. Eric Bowser says:

And that’s why Kennedy needs to go.. you can’t blow that chance.

  34. sjb says:

Agreed. Even if this doesn’t result in a cup, the trade was a good one and the Pens didn’t give up too much at all.

  35. TJ says:

I’m really excited about the chances of our top 2 lines now; heck even 3 lines if they keep Bennett with Malkin and Neal and put Morrow with Sutter and Cooke.

I don’t think Shero is done

  36. sjb says:

The Flyers, after 6 days off, looked a bit rusty and slow there. The Pens really let them off the hook in that period. Should have had at least a couple goals if they were sharper. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite them.

  37. TJ says:

Jandy…. what are you doing here…. Holy week started today

  38. Milo Hamilton says:

I like to call it “prospect love”. It’s loosely defined as an unhealthy attachment & wild overvaluing of someone you’ve never seen play. It’s really prevalent in baseball. I blame Billy Beane.

  39. Eric Bowser says:

0-0 after first period but Pens could have had four or five goals if they hadn’t missed the net on at least 6 scoring chances and a few others were stopped by Bryzgalov.

The second period won’t be as kind to the Flyers.

  40. sjb says:

Yup. they should be able to build 3 strong lines either way. I would be surprised though if Morrow doesn’t stick with one of the top 2.

  41. sjb says:

    Is it Palm Sunday?

  42. Jandy says:

    yes it is

  43. sjb says:

lol. Also kinda like hoarding…afraid that everything may be worth more than it really is, and shouldn’t be gotten rid of just in case. I mean, if we get rid of Joe Morrow, who will score that Cup game winner in 2020?

  44. Jandy says:

Teddy Bear, I seriously used to be Catholic. I can’t stomach the man-made Church hypocrasy. If I decide to go back to a “church” it won’t be the Catholic Church!

  45. Eric Bowser says:

Bylsma has some good options as he could go

    Bennett-Malkin-Neal or Morrow-Malkin-Neal
    Morrow-Sutter-Cooke or Cooke-Sutter-Bennett

I think Penguins will keep Tanner Glass at LW and Craig Adams at RW, so figure Tyler Kennedy or Joe Vitale will be traded for a veteran center. Phoenix has scouted the last two games at Consol and I think Boyd Gordon would be candidate for 4th line C because he’s good on draws and proven on PK.

For some insane reason, Bylsma just won’t use Vitale on the PK.. I don’t know why.

  46. Milo Hamilton says:

Last summer someone posted that they didn’t want to see the Pirates make a mistake like they did with Moises Alou for Zane Smith. Mistake ? Smith helped them win 3 divisions & gave them a shot to win the World Series each of those years. That was hardly a mistake.

  47. sjb says:

Don’t be surprised if Morrow sees time on the first line if it starts getting unproductive at all. We know it only takes a game or two for him to start tinkering.

  48. TJ says:

I grew up catholic as well Jandy. Went to catholic grade school and even an altar boy. For some reason I can’t figure out why I don’t remember what it was like to be in 7th and 8th grade….

  49. Jandy says:

Agreed about Vitale, on the PK I don’t get it.

  50. DemonDachshund says:

I’m confused… If a team is going all-in for a championship, doesn’t that mean they should trade for promising minor leaguers from non-contending teams?

  51. TJ says:

Eric I was a little bummed the other day when I saw that the Hurricanes had claimed Adam Hall from TB. I really thought had he slipped through that the Pens would have grabbed him.

  52. Jandy says:

TJ, I’ll take you further, I was a reader and helped with communion when that change was made. I taught 3rd & 4th grade CCD.

I love the Bible but I hate the way the men change the rules to suit themselves when they want to. And the abuse of the boys by the priests is disgusting.

    Sorry to go off lol

  53. Neal Huntington says:

    Yes, yes they should.

  54. SJB says:

Pens still not putting those chances in the net. Not good.

  55. cherokee23 says:

Despres has to stay in lineup…..got great talent!!

  56. JohninOshkosh says:

I can’t imagine the flurry of posts had the Pirates traded a prospect. I recall some backlash when Rudy Owens (Rudy Owens!) was traded for Wandy Rodriguez.

  57. TJ says:

We have Dustin Jeffrey leading the rush on our SECOND line. With Beau Bennett on one wing. It would be interesting if Malkin were in this game with the chances Jeffrey has had. Then again I doubt that he would have the space.

  58. Pucknutz says:

Team colors are black and gold (yellow)

    100% w/ya Eric!
HATE, HATE and HATE the Blue!!!
And I am old enough to have actualy to have seen them play in the blue w/ all of 5000 in the arena.
You could smoke in the seats then, and all of the smoke was not tobbaco smoke! LOL
Maybe that, why I am having “flashbacks”.
    Colen right P to Jandy!

  59. TJ says:

Oh crap you taught CCD? Now that explains whats wrong with this city!!!!

    ZING

  60. TJ says:

If it makes you feel any better I went on to bible college in Missouri and actually worked as a Youth Pastor for a few years in a Assembly of God church.

  61. Arriba Wilver says:

    +a gagillion

  62. TJ says:

Jeez could Timmonen be any more obvious on his hold on Sid against the boards?

  63. SJB says:

Yup. Gotta finish when you get the opportunity though. Eventually, especially in a tight scoring game, a goal not scored is just like a goal for the other team.

  64. SJB says:

    He’s old…they give him a handicap.

  65. JohninOshkosh says:

The best thing about the Morrow trade? I have yet to hear Shero say the words “years of control.”

  66. TJ says:

I will say this about the Morrow deal. He’s 34; he’s not in the Guerin, Roberts, Kovalev age range. I think Kunitz is 34 if I remember correctly.

So realistically if Morrow likes it here he could end up like Guerin and resigning with the club

  67. TJ says:

I’ll go out on a limb and say we get that 5th round pick back for Tyler Kennedy

  68. Eric Bowser says:

I was too. I would rather have Hall as 4th line RW than Adams but that’s just me.

  69. TJ says:

Fleury please stay in the net; crazy bounces tonight

  70. TJ says:

Interesting comment; looking to add to our top 9. Did not say our top 6.

  71. SJB says:

Agree. If he works out and likes it here, he could very possibly resign with the Pens. Probably for around $3 mil a year, as long as the Pens can make room for him under the cap and don’t think that will keep them from resigning Malkin and Letang.

  72. SJB says:

C’mon PK. Don’t make it easy for them.

  73. TJ says:

    I cannot stand Tanner Glass

  74. Jandy says:

LOL city? I lived in a small cow path town called Ashville at the time lol

  75. Jandy says:

what turned you off if you don’t mind my asking?

  76. TJ says:

Nice elbow to the head area

  77. cherokee23 says:

don’t like him either, but he made the right play….not necessarily a fluke goal, but definitely opportunistic!

  78. Jandy says:

    Kuntiz 33 until September

  79. SJB says:

Time for the Pens stars to step up. Outplaying the Flyers for the whole game and give them the only goal on a PP. That’s what makes all those missed scoring chances even worse.

  80. SJB says:

Nice give and go from Giroux to Glass to Giroux. Sure fooled Fleury alright.

  81. SJB says:

Listening to the radio feed and if I gotta hear Lange say: “and he just couldn’t put it in the net” one more time….

  82. SJB says:

Now, if this was the Bruins or Canadians, the Pens would be winning and the streak would go on, but because it’s the Flyers, no matter how badly they are being out played, they will more than likely win and end the streak, just like they’ve always don’t. WTF? I’m convinced you could dress a bunch of homeless, elderly women in Orange and Black and the Pens would either lose to them or make it way more difficult than it has to be.

  83. pattonbb says:

    Time to fire Bylsma yet?

  84. SJB says:

    always “done”.

  85. SJB says:

Nope, I’ll wait til after the playoffs.

  86. cherokee23 says:

    …..back away from the ledge…..

  87. JohninOshkosh says:

One period to defend the streak…

  88. SJB says:

Just calling it like I sees it. Not like I said anything really untrue.

  89. cherokee23 says:

Seriously…..they are playing very good hockey……smart, disciplined, aggressive…..win or lose this game, I’m impressed with how they are playing

  90. SJB says:

Is that the 14th time a Pen missed the net?

  91. SJB says:

and if they lost to any other team I wouldn’t even mind much, but the Flyers…how F’ing predictable and annoying is that?

  92. Jandy says:

    extremely annoying >:/

  93. J Walter Weatherman says:

Are the ice conditions really bad? This is a really sloppy game

  94. Eric Bowser says:

Can’t blame it on the ice. Pens have been sloppy in this game and allowing Flyers easy attempts to block shots.

Come playoff time, if forwards don’t shift laterally with puck, it is too easy to clutch and hold and block shots.

This game is like Penguins vs 1996 Florida Panthers, refs just letting Flyers get away with a ton of holding.

  95. Eric Bowser says:

really dumb penalty by Simmonds… everyone is watching you on that play.

  96. J Walter Weatherman says:

Thanks – haven’t been watching the whole game. What I’ve seen is pucks and players bouncing all over.

Special Teams the story of a Pens-Flyers game again?

  97. J Walter Weatherman says:

Great shot. Let’s get another one!

  98. Jandy says:

    HELL YEAH!

  99. Eric Bowser says:

puck had eyes on that one.

  100. Eric Bowser says:

    Heaven Yeah!!

    wait, what?!?

    ;)

  101. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Jeffrey stinks

  102. Milo Hamilton says:

If this trade means I never have to look at Dustin Jeffery again, I would have sent the whole minor league system for Morrow.

  103. Jandy says:

    Dupuis down,not good

  104. Jandy says:

Freakin Overtime! Let’s do it Pens!

  105. J Walter Weatherman says:

Every once in a blue moon, he’ll score a pretty goal – pick the corner. You’ll think that maybe he can put it together and be more productive. At this point, it’s doubtful that he will put it together. Too afraid of contact to be a grit player and too hesitant to be an assertive playmaker.

  106. J Walter Weatherman says:

No freakin way did Kennedy just score a big goal. Move him to the 2nd line!!

  107. Jandy says:

Tyler Freakin Kennedy wins the game :)

  108. Eric Bowser says:

    OMG….. Kennedy scores in OT

    12 in row!

    Fire Bylsma!

  109. Milo Hamilton says:

How many is that now ? I’ve lost count.

  110. Jandy says:

    he sure did lol

  111. Jandy says:

    ZING!

  112. Eric Bowser says:

as I was saying… fake shot, change angle and get the opening… TK did it perfectly.

  113. J Walter Weatherman says:

I’m just glad Scott Fartsmell didn’t end the streak. I do not like that person.

  114. Jandy says:

It was a perfect roofer :)

  115. Milo Hamilton says:

Hopefully, some really desperate general manager saw that overtime.

  116. Jandy says:

    person? You mean jackwipe>??

  117. Jandy says:

    like

  118. Jandy says:

    ZING!

  119. DemonDachshund says:

    Well played, sir.

  120. cosmo says:

    Or “downward plane”

  121. J Walter Weatherman says:

My apologies. I do not like that jackwipe. Scott Jackwipe Fartsmell.

  122. cosmo says:

Does that goal increase his trade value?

  123. SJB says:

Well, I’m amazed they were able to do it. This had loss written all over it especially seeing as how they were getting none of the bounces for the first 50 minutes and when it comes to Pens/Flyers, we know if the Pens can lose to anyone, it would be them.

With this win and the past few come from behinds, I’m convinced now that this team is ready for a long playoff run. In the beginning of the season, I was convinced they weren’t.

    Tyler Friggin Kennedy!…who knew!

  124. Milo Hamilton says:

    I can dream, can’t I ?

  125. Jandy says:

    Now you’re talking!!

  126. cosmo says:

One thing about Kennedy, he’s not afraid to shoot the puck. You are not always sure
where it’s going to end up, but he’ll shoot it.

  127. J Walter Weatherman says:

Coburn will probably be missing some upcoming games for that hit on Dupuis. Maybe 2 games, but don’t know of his history.

  128. Pucknutz says:

I Think he is definitly trade bait.
Believe or not I like the guy, just for the way he plays 110% all the time.
But 110% of his skill set maybe equals – what?
Nice goal I will give credit where it is due.
    Shero ain’t done!!
    Goi Pens!

  129. cosmo says:

Question? Does the flyer who rammed Dupuis into the boards get a phone call from Shanahan this week.

  130. Eric Bowser says:

Penguins have won 12 in a row and only given up 9 goals in the last 8 games.

Tremendous turnaround defensively and in goal.

  131. Pucknutz says:

I would certainly hope so! Way high on that hit!

  132. Pucknutz says:

Jackwipe -New one on me -can I look that up in Websters or will you define it for me Jandy???

  133. Milo Hamilton says:

Brenden Morrow is married to Guy Carbonneau’s daughter.

  134. JohninOshkosh says:

Anybody have both LaSalle and Florida Gulf Coast in their sweet sixteen? Just one of ‘em?

Florida Gulf Coast had OPEN TRYOUTS before the season!

  135. Jandy says:

I didn’t know that, thanks, Milo.
