Comments

  1. Playoffs by 2012 says:

MAJOR ANNOUCEMENT regarding “The Window” for the 2013 season. Hopefully on the radio today. That is if DK takes my call…

  2. JohninOshkosh says:

    Now there is a tease…..

  3. Jandy says:

    It’s good news!!!! I can tell ;)

  4. Milo Hamilton says:

Does anyone get the feeling that management is so obsessed with averting another collapse that they are overlooking the importance of starting well ? These players they are stockpiling for the end of the season won’t mean a thing if they are buried in the standings by the time they get there.

  5. Bizrow says:

This new format on the site will help Playoffs immensely, if he continues this season.

We can help too by not giving him any hassles

It was a lot of fun and greatly appreciated.

And a heck of a lot of work on his part.

  6. Bizrow says:

Good point, and the fact that there are three starting pitchers that the club is expecting as the cavalry coming over the hill also means it would be very difficult and somewhat expensive to add a starter for the beginning of the year.

  7. John Lease says:

It’s the ‘due’ theory. This year it’ll be a hot streak at the end to win that elusive 82nd game.

  8. Milo Hamilton says:

Interesting to see how the interim general manager will handle the trading deadline in that scenario.

  9. Milo Hamilton says:

Here’s a 1st guess. No way I would have let Jonathan Sanchez pitch a major league game. I would have had him get his work in at minor league camp.

  10. NMR says:

“… won’t mean a thing if they are buried in the standings by the time they get there.”

Ah, but how do you fire a management team that produced a 10 game improvement over the first half of 2013 (in which they went 25-36)???

  11. Hope he doesn’t blow up today now that he has his contract.

  12. Milo Hamilton says:

Larry Doughty was fired after winning 2 straight division titles. I’d fire them kinda like that.

  13. Bizrow says:

Thanks for signing into the roster of lunatics last night, John

  14. Bizrow says:

Larry was also the fellow that put two guys on irrevocable waivers, one name was Chamberlain, I think. Bottom line they were both picked up by Philly, Philly relented a bit and gave us a bag of practice balls in a trade.

None of the guys made much of a splash (the guys we lost), but it was a pretty ugly mistake on his part.

  15. NMR says:

Come on, at least give me some credit for my How-Neal-Huntington-Keeps-His-Job theory.

It’s not easy to think of scenarios in which that actually happens.

  16. NMR says:

IKIOST, but Sanchez won’t face many lineups as dangerous as Reyes-Cabrera-Bautista-Arencibia.

  17. Bizrow says:

A question. If the Brewers lost the 17th pick in the first round for signing Lohse, why are the Cards getting the 28th pick in the first round this year as compensation? Or was that just a mistake by the folks reporting it?

  18. If I believed in jinxes, that above comment would aptly qualify.

  19. Bizrow says:

3 – 1 bad guys, two out in bottom of the first

  20. Bizrow says:

    See score below ;-)

  21. 3 runs, 3 hits and a walk. But he did have 2 K’s. And he hit his spots, right Groaty?

  22. Milo Hamilton says:

    I think he has pictures.

  23. Maybe that’s his bad inning for the day.

  24. Bizrow says:

Humbly nominate as Post du Jour.

    Or at least a tie

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

    Thunder,

I was surprised how tall Felix Pie is.

  26. Arriba Wilver says:

I was surprised his name was pronounced in two syllables.

  27. Big THANK YOU to DK for taking my call.
The Window will be back for the 2013 season!!

The first line of the season will be posted on Wednesday’s wake up call.
Looking forward to a great 2013 season with my fellow lunatics!

Also, The Window is now on Twitter, feel free to follow @TheBuccoWindow

  28. Jandy says:

    like

  29. Thanks for the kind words. I’m looking forward to this season!
No epic collapses for me this year.

  30. NMR says:

As far as I can tell, the signing team gives up its pick and the receiving team makes said pick at the end of the first round while the teams after the signing team move up a spot.

Milwaukee’s 17th pick was the first one to be surrendered, thus St Louis makes the first comp pick at #28 and so on.

  31. Jandy says:

NMR LOVES to play the Spoiler ;)

  32. Bizrow says:

Ok, thanks, in the old contract, the Cards would have gotten the 17th pick, I think.

What you said makes sense. 30 teams, 3 lost picks, PBC has an extra.

  33. Jandy says:

    Wa-hoo!!!!!!

  34. Bizrow says:

Does anyone think he has a chance to come north with the club?

  35. Bizrow says:

    This is good news indeed.

Now I gotta get to the bank and make sure I have plenty of nuclear nuggets ;-)

  36. Arriba Wilver says:

Biz–don’t know if you saw it but there was a belated Hillidaysburg sign in on yesterday’s game thread.

  37. Bizrow says:

No, did not see that, thanks AW

  38. Arriba Wilver says:

    Hollidaysburg

  39. Arriba Wilver says:

Pirates tie it up in the top of the 4th, and the pitcher gives up a go ahead HR in the bottom of the 4th. Sounds like the Pirates.

  40. tdb1977 says:

Window or no window? I couldnt listen to the show. Eagerly waiting to find out :)

  41. tdb1977 says:

    WOOHOOO!!!!!!

  42. Jandy says:

You gonna play for last place tdb???

  43. stuart66 says:

Sanchez coming out with no one on and 2 outs in the 5th. Hope he’s not hurt. Didn’t see the total pitch count.

    Stuart

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

Forgot to tell you this earlier. Brenden Morrow will wear #10, Tanner Glass #15 & Dustin Jeffrey #17. I guess Glass has been trying to get 15 off Jeffrey all year. Maybe that’ll change his luck.

  45. Not a horrific outing for Sanchez, especially after that first inning. 4.2, 4 ER, 6 K’s, 1 BB.

  46. Sammy Khalifa says:

Does Felix Pie make this team? His play this spring has intrigued me…..

  47. Bizrow says:

Another former PBC on the move, from MLBTradeRumors

Traded for Vernon Wells by Yankees

Cayones, 21, was acquired by the Yankees from the Pirates in the A.J. Burnett trade in February of last year, so he’s again attached to a salary dump. He hit .228/.374/.291 in 200 Low-A plate appearances last year, playing mostly right field.

  48. Especially to another ex-Buc, which there are quite a few of around.

  49. JAL says:

It was pitch count and he pitched better than his line. Cabrera’s hit in the first was pop up in front of the plate which should have been caught. Completely different inning if the play is made.

  50. Bizrow says:

Inge went 6 for 37 in ST, but made the club?

  51. Milo Hamilton says:

It took some Cayones to make that trade.

  52. Arriba Wilver says:

Agree. I think he made the club when they invited him to ST.

  53. Bizrow says:

    Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk….

  54. Arriba Wilver says:

    (Groan). :-)

  55. Bizrow says:

They can send Pie down to Indy, without the 100k bonus.

    Tabby is out of options

I’m betting Tabby stays, for now

  56. Bizrow says:

Maybe someone is going to get traded?

  57. NMR says:

Yeah, but his vetereness easily makes him worth at least a 6 for 37 performance. Just ask Clint.

  58. Someone is going somewhere because they’re still at 36, right?

  59. NMR says:

Pie misplayed Lind’s double in the first after Melky’s popup was dropped.

Against that lineup, I’d say the team is darn happy with his performance.

  60. Excellent. Wish I could think on my feet like that.

  61. Didn’t know any of that until you and JAL mentioned those plays.

  62. Milo Hamilton says:

They just mentioned Al Martin. Sorry, but just like Jose Tabata’s fake baby, the two wives will always make the 1st paragraph.

  63. Milo Hamilton says:

You know what the penalty for bigamy is ? Two wives.

  64. TJ says:

Jamie Dixon would have got a 10 year extension

  65. Bizrow says:

Depres gets sent to WB per a Dejan tweet

  66. Jandy says:

    Saw that coming.

  67. Jandy says:

Problem is Spunky, you’re not on your feet! :P

  68. TJ says:

Pirates should consider a reverse rotation. Have Sanchez and the 5th starter go against the other teams #1 and #2 starters. Why waste Burnett and Wandy in games against other teams real aces when we are more than likely going to lose every 4th and 5th day any way.

  69. True, most of the time here. ;)

  70. Bizrow says:

I would think that means either Malkin or Letang plays tonight?

  71. Milo Hamilton says:

You, me & Jim Colony on that one.

  72. Jandy says:

    No neither plays tonight.

  73. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m wearing #23 for Team Window.

  74. TJ says:

I would think it means Letang is playing since Murray has yet to arrive.

I see Bennett being sent down once Murray arrives and Malkin is ready. That is until the team trades a few assets at the deadline for 2nd round picks that are worth nothing around here!

    Sorry had to say it!

  75. Milo Hamilton says:

They took Letang off IR. He’s playing.

  76. TJ says:

Say what? Neither are playing. This Malkin injury has me worried. Upper body and he’s skating but not a concussion. They are playing this like the Crosby situation where 3 months later they find he had a broken bone in his neck.

  77. TJ says:

I would say thats 3 very wise men; others might consider the 3 stooges

  78. Bizrow says:

No reason to move Depres if no one is getting activated for tonight, right?

  79. Milo Hamilton says:

Moe, Larry & a talking teddy bear.

  80. kevnj says:

You should be managing the Buccos, Outside the box. Reverse the lineup too, get those early outs out of the way with Barmes and the pitcher

  81. Bizrow says:

Hey Moe, wheres the cheese??? ;-)

  82. TJ says:

Can’t wait to hear about the number of fights at those games cause you end up pissing on the guy next to you while drunk and trying to play a game involving a urinal. Brilliant idea.

Thought this was a joke at first; like the time I first fell for the “did you hear there are windows in the bathrooms at the new park”. Really? “Yeah so you can P “N”C the park”.

  83. tpbco says:

I would think it’s most likely a minor shoulder seperation. Doesn’t prevent him from skating, they said he was doing some contact work. In an interview he said it (the injury, not specified) was still a little sore.

May not be right, but fits the known info.

  84. TJ says:

If Tabata or Presley are the leadoff guy would we notice a difference?

  85. Bizrow says:

Or is it Moe!! Larry!! Cheese!! ?

I wish they were still on TV now and then….

  86. kevnj says:

LOL, its only funny because its true.

  87. TJ says:

Yes cause your still adding Morrow without removing anyone.

  88. TJ says:

I think they are some where but no one stops to watch cause its in black and white and not high def 3D TV

  89. tpbco says:

None story. He and/or Bennett will be back on 4/3 when rosters are expanded.

Out of 2nd round picks for a couple of years.

  90. NMR says:

Under the definition of the phrase “don’t trust spring training stats”, this outing would be listed.

I’m also following Groat through the corn field, fwiw.

  91. Bizrow says:

Where’s Nosmo King when you need him?

  92. TJ says:

Yes I know we are out of 2nd round picks. I believe the Pens are going to make additional moves involving perhaps current roster players like TK that may bring back draft picks.

  93. Milo Hamilton says:

    I’m going to try this slower. L e t a n g i s p l a y i n g.

  94. With Paul Shannon.

I have the box set of most of the 3 Stooges shorts ever made. Some that never get shown if anyone ever gets a need for a fix.

  95. Bizrow says:

I thought there was a guy (a winger) that they brought up from WB, Smith?? that they sent back down when Morrow was obtained, but, you know, I could be wrong,

That happened (me being wrong) just last week ;-)

  96. Jandy says:

    where’d you find that, Milo?

  97. Bizrow says:

For the life of me, I could not remember Pauls last name, I kept shorting out and thinking Paul Long.

I met Moe, Larry and Curly Joe along with Mr Shannon when he was helping revive their careers.

At a bowling alley in Mt Lebanon, no less

  98. Bizrow says:

NH and TC would not have liked the Stooges very much, they were kinda short guys

  99. Milo Hamilton says:

Molinari says Despres move coincides with Letang’s removal from IR. They don’t take guys off IR unless they are playing.

  100. TJ says:

Good call Biz; forgot about the 28 year old Trevor Smith.

So yes Despres was likely sent out cause of Letang.

Milo got to work on that spacing a little cause it doesn’t come across slower; just one long word

  101. Milo Hamilton says:

Yohe also tweeted after the morning skate that Letang was acting as if he was playing.

  102. stuart66 says:

    Bucs lose.

I’m betting Despr3s is only a paper move. He’s back to stay after the 3rd of April.

Meantime Shero isn’t yet out of moves.

    Stuart

  103. Pat4PGH says:

Aiming whilst peeing…..can any of us guys do that, other than writing our name in the snow?

  104. stuart66 says:

I’ll bet the Habs would like to have Despres. I’ll be glad when they leave town. I’d move Engelland if there are any takers.

    Stuart

  105. TJ says:

Sorry if your not an insider but here is a link:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9096834/nhl-trade-deadline-moves-ducks-kings-sharks-stars-coyotes

They have the Coyotes problem as scoring; and their suggestion for a fix is…..

    TYLER KENNEDY

  106. stuart66 says:

Great, lets give them TK and Engelland for a second rounder.

    Stuart

  107. TJ says:

Also Hawks likely out of the running for Iginla

  108. Pat4PGH says:

Wasn’t there a 1st baseman here last year who hit better than that and was a good clubhouse guy with veteran-ness? Canna think of his name….. Also, there are some who thought trading him brought on Collapse Part Deux…

  109. tpbco says:

I dunno hockeymonster wanted to trade PM last week so we could afford to extend him…

I agree more moves coming and it makes sense to get some picks back or Mario’s Box will be full every nite.

  110. He hit .224. He’s in Japan now, shoring up their lockerrooms.

  111. Pat4PGH says:

    ;-(

  112. stuart66 says:

Supposedly the Pens are still in, but I find that hard to believe. Pens are one of the four teams Jarome has consented to be traded to.

I wonder what it would be like to have a “young guys” fourth line?

    Stuart

  113. TJ says:

We have a scout in Chicago to watch the Flames and Blackhawks tonight.

  114. TJ says:

Everyone keeps saying don’t touch the top line. I agree they are playing well and Kunitz and Dupuis are have career years. But my question is how many more goals would a guy like Iginla have than say Dupuis who misses the net quite often.

  115. You knew it was McGeek, didn’t you?

  116. I never got the chance to meet Moe, Larry, and Curly.

But I have met and spoken to Bob Nutting, Frank Coonelly, and Neal Huntington. Does that qualify?!?

  117. Pat4PGH says:

Yeah! Another in a long line of old, injured, used-to-be decent acquisitions by Neal for Clint.

  118. Thanks for info, JAL———did not get to listen to.

  119. stuart66 says:

DuPuis, Cook and Sutter would make a great third line, including PKs. I’d put Bennett with Jeffries and 27 on the fourth and take my chances.

I’ve liked all of the moves So far, but still nervous about Despres.

    Stuart

  120. Pat4PGH says:

Same as having a young guys bench on the baseball team; we may never know….

  121. I noticed that Jandy left when you guys started talking about writing your name in the snow.

I don’t think she left because she was grossed out———I think she went out to practice!

  122. TJ says:

Steelers have a young defensive and offensive line; how did that work out this year?

  123. stuart66 says:

Groat, I don’t think that much really bothers our Jandy. She can give it as well as take it.

BTW I didn’t see a prediction from you for the Bucs.

    Stuart

  124. tpbco says:

I would have concerns with both Bennett and Jeffries on 4th line. Bennett I can see, Jefferies has shown nothing scoring wise, with ample opportunity, and has little sandpaper in his game that the 4th line needs and not a ga great FO guy. Adams. Bennett and Vitalie unless there more moves.

I’m not sure why you are nervous about Depres, no one is down on him, just the facts of life for youngens and a deep roster.

  125. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yankees sign Lyle Overbay. Yesssssssssss.

  126. My heart tells me 88.

    My head tells me 72.

Pirates have no depth and so many holes that all have to go just right for them to be a winning team. Can the sun rise just right very day for a full season?

My biggest worry is that Bucs win 82, and BMTIB is renewed.

Only starter without concerns is Wandy. Is AJ the pitcher from first 4 months last year or is he the pitcher from the 2 previous seasons? Is JMac Dr. Jekkyl or Mr. Hyde? Is J. Sanchez still the pitcher that got CUT from KC Royals last season? Will all of .211 batting Russ Martin’s homeruns turn into long flyouts in PNC’s big left center field? Will Barmes add no field to his no hit stance? Will anyone playing right field hit at all? Will Pedro be another Dave Nicholsen? Can Grilli close beyond July 4?

I see 3 1/2 answers: McCutch, Walker, Marte, and platooning Garrett Jones.
All the rest I see as questions.

If I were betting the house, I’d say 69-72 wins. Crap!!!

  127. kr70 says:

the stooges were good at what they did unlike the BMTIB.

  128. John Lease says:

I held out as long as I possibly could, wanted to keep my virginity in something…

  129. John Lease says:

I will never forget the Al Martin-Kevin Young play as long as I live, 2 outs, single to left, falls down on the way to the plate out. A single turned into a 7-2 fielders choice.

  130. The Gunner says:

The Yanks cut former Pirate great Matt Diaz earlier this spring. Now they sign Overbay (aka Overpaid) when he played for the Bucs. Things must be pretty bleak in the Bronx.

  131. tdb1977 says:

Darn tooting right, I’m playing for last place :)
