  1. Wonder if Malkin will dress tonight?

Oh, I know he will be in uniform, but I hope he puts his big boy pants on and focuses on playing hockey.

  2. Anybody heard who will be between the pipes tonight? Vokoun needs to get back in the saddle and erase the memory of his previous start.

  3. I think everyone needs to get back in the saddle and forget the past 2 games.

The thing that haunts me the most however isn’t the fact that they gave up 10 goals in 2 games but rather that they continue down this path of 1 goal games. In 8 of their last 10 games they have scored 2 or less goals. And one of those games included a OT win.

Everyone says the Pens can make up for the loss of Crosby, Letang and Martin with their depth. Sure they can put quality hockey players on the ice but I think you can see right here that their offense has dipped with Letang and Martin out of the lineup.

  5. Gotta throw a couple items in here before the game…

    1. Good for Pitt on not allowing Arizona and Arizona State to be a school that Shell transfers too. Leaves him with Cal and UCLA on his list.

    2. Is there something going on in the NFL like the NFLPA are claiming? You’ve got guys like Urlacher, Charles Woodson, Harrison all without teams. In the past these guys would have signed by now. I mean Stevenson Sylvester was signed before the 3 of those guys.

  6. As an honorary member, what about Mr. Debartolo? He bought the Pens out of bankruptcy and gave us a Stanley Cup? Should be there if you already include McClachey.

    • Debartolo was gone before the cup came to Pittsburgh. Sold the team in 1991 to Howard Baldwin and his crew which eventually took the team into bankruptcy which led to Mario taking over in 1999.

      • Lets talk about it

        How about nominating Eddie Johnston?

DeBartolo did save the Pens, but it was all about money, a business decision, EJ was a coach, and tanked the team to get Mario, and he was a pretty darn good coach, still is an advisor for the team, I think.

McClachey basically saved the PBC by getting PNC built

        • i vote for Eddie

        • Debartolo sold the team in November of 1991 after the first Cup. And while it may have been about the money, it was HIS money that made it possible for the Pens to become champions.

And remember what a mess Al Savill and Wren Blair left for Debartolo to fix. Or should I say Paul Martha. Martha may be the biggest unsung hero in that story.

Maybe we should also thank Baldwin for giving Mario those large, deferred money contracts so he had a reason to buy the team!

          • I remember him vividly at the 1st cup rally at Point State Park. Said it was possibly the happiest moment of his life. Then he made a joke about how many millions it cost him.

        • I love the idea of Eddie Johnston. Plus I met him once, he was very nice.

  7. Dejan must be angling for Quebecois blog support. Now listing Quebec’s TV coverage for a game involving two American teams.

  8. I believe tonight’s game is at Consol, not at Madison Square Garden as listed above.

  9. I vote for Badger Bob Johnson…How could you not?

  10. Spirited first shift from Morrow. Like to see that. Also been impressed so far with JJ. Could be a great deadline pickup.

  11. One of these days Tanner Glass is going to score a goal. No, really

    DK: How about a point?

  12. Capital idea.

  13. Yawn.

  14. So far I like the energy and effort this game. Just need to bury some chances

  15. Boy do they miss their puck movers on the back line.

  16. Sutter’s hurt.

  17. This game needs Mike Rice.

  18. Shot was high he must have heard me.

  19. And Fleury robs Stepan

  20. FIVE.

  21. Let’s not lose Kunitz too.

  22. Shut it Torts!

  23. 5 on 3 comin up

  24. UPMC should just move to Consol. Now, Neal is wobbly with a head hit.

  25. Boyle shut your pie hole. You can dish it but can’t take it, wuss

  26. Playoff series between these two would be a bloodbath.

  27. Dupuis gets 2 minutes for whiffing.

  28. Why do the words raving lunatic come to mind ?

  29. This turned into a fairly entertaining game

  30. BOO!

  31. BOO!

  32. Dang!!!!!!!!! 1 to 1

  33. I guess they need to get Jokinen out there for all the faceoffs

  34. This game has my blood flowing. Lucky the Pirates are coming up to put me to sleep.

  35. Did Boyle just beat Orpik down the ice?

  36. They are not the better team right now. Holding on for a point.

  37. over half their line up is out….sheesh

  38. The might finally get that second dash to their record line tonight.

  39. Fleury is the only reason the Pens got at least one point out of this game. Rangers completely dominated the 3rd period.

  40. Is it just me or is Fleury having a good game?

  41. Jokinen is very good at these.

  42. c’mon Jussi

  43. Flower says no to Nash

  44. That game was hard. :)

  45. The only shoot goal was a high one. Pens Win Pens Win

  46. Yesss!!!!!!

  47. Now can the Pirates get a win? That would make for a great night.

  48. Ok so I didn’t see the hit on Neal; but I’m guessing that if it was bad enough of a hit to the head that he did not return that it should have been a penalty but I don’t see one in the box score.

Kunitz gets 5 and a misconduct for a shoulder to shoulder hit…. Lucy you gots some splainin to do.

    • Steigy & Errey were manufacturing some kind of controversy by trying to say Del Zotto purposely swung his arm and landed the elbow to Neal’s face. I mean, that’s about as absurd as the raving lunatic in Ottawa complaining about Matt Cooke.

      DK: Honestly.

  49. Great game, really enjoyable to watch that kind of playoff hockey.

Great goaltending, good defense, some scoring chances, big hits, intensity…

  50. Neal injured tonight?

Time to get rid of those cursed black sweaters?
