  1. Wonder if Malkin will dress tonight?

Oh, I know he will be in uniform, but I hope he puts his big boy pants on and focuses on playing hockey.

  2. Pucknutz says:

    GO PENS !

Don’t be so sure Groat, the Saint was adamant about benching him, and I am not sure how much pull those halos have! lol

I agree w/ya he needs to play a “good” game.

  3. JaxBuc says:

Anybody heard who will be between the pipes tonight? Vokoun needs to get back in the saddle and erase the memory of his previous start.

  4. MadTurk says:

    MAF will be in goal

  5. Bizrow says:

First reported by Jandy, earlier today.

She is a hockey fiend ;-)

  6. TJ says:

I think everyone needs to get back in the saddle and forget the past 2 games.

The thing that haunts me the most however isn’t the fact that they gave up 10 goals in 2 games but rather that they continue down this path of 1 goal games. In 8 of their last 10 games they have scored 2 or less goals. And one of those games included a OT win.

Everyone says the Pens can make up for the loss of Crosby, Letang and Martin with their depth. Sure they can put quality hockey players on the ice but I think you can see right here that their offense has dipped with Letang and Martin out of the lineup.

  8. TJ says:

Gotta throw a couple items in here before the game…

    1. Good for Pitt on not allowing Arizona and Arizona State to be a school that Shell transfers too. Leaves him with Cal and UCLA on his list.

    2. Is there something going on in the NFL like the NFLPA are claiming? You’ve got guys like Urlacher, Charles Woodson, Harrison all without teams. In the past these guys would have signed by now. I mean Stevenson Sylvester was signed before the 3 of those guys.

  9. MarkV says:

As an honorary member, what about Mr. Debartolo? He bought the Pens out of bankruptcy and gave us a Stanley Cup? Should be there if you already include McClachey.

  10. TJ says:

Debartolo was gone before the cup came to Pittsburgh. Sold the team in 1991 to Howard Baldwin and his crew which eventually took the team into bankruptcy which led to Mario taking over in 1999.

  11. Bizrow says:

    Lets talk about it

    How about nominating Eddie Johnston?

DeBartolo did save the Pens, but it was all about money, a business decision, EJ was a coach, and tanked the team to get Mario, and he was a pretty darn good coach, still is an advisor for the team, I think.

McClachey basically saved the PBC by getting PNC built

  12. JohninOshkosh says:

Dejan must be angling for Quebecois blog support. Now listing Quebec’s TV coverage for a game involving two American teams.

  13. Jandy says:

    Saint??? Lol that’s hilarious ;)

  14. Jandy says:

Hey now I resemble that remark!!

  15. “I’m a priest not a saint”. Richard Harris in The Count of Monte Christo.

    J-girl, you’re a hockey fan, not a saint, right?

(Don’t get mad at me like Roberto. I’m kidding).

  16. Jandy says:

Roberto can be a total **** when he wants to but he can also be a funny and interesting lunatic. But one thing Jandy is NOT is saiintly! ;)

  17. Dave G says:

I believe tonight’s game is at Consol, not at Madison Square Garden as listed above.

  18. Jandy says:

Besides, Roberto is the one who said he was missing something. I just agreed with him! ;)

  19. Jandy says:

Hopefully more than just empty sweaters show up to play tonite

  20. Jandy says:

I believe you are correct, Dave!

  21. Jandy says:

    i vote for Eddie

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

    Yep. In the ‘Burgh.

  23. Pucknutz says:

Trib interns put his one together – DK would NEVER make a mistake like that!!!

  24. Pucknutz says:

“Sweaters” I like the old time traditional term – rather than jerzeys – although I am guilty of using the latter term.

  25. MarkV says:

Debartolo sold the team in November of 1991 after the first Cup. And while it may have been about the money, it was HIS money that made it possible for the Pens to become champions.

And remember what a mess Al Savill and Wren Blair left for Debartolo to fix. Or should I say Paul Martha. Martha may be the biggest unsung hero in that story.

Maybe we should also thank Baldwin for giving Mario those large, deferred money contracts so he had a reason to buy the team!

  26. Arriba Wilver says:

I’d vote for Eddie over Eddie.

What are we talking about again?

  27. Jandy says:

Puckers, I picked up the term sweaters from FaceOff Factor.

  28. He’s an interesting person for sure.

  29. Milo Hamilton says:

I remember him vividly at the 1st cup rally at Point State Park. Said it was possibly the happiest moment of his life. Then he made a joke about how many millions it cost him.

  30. Bizrow says:

    AW votes two Eddies

Heck, most of us don’t know who we are voting for.

    Eddie added

Now, if I can only remember what Eddie

  31. Jandy says:

  32. Milo Hamilton says:

I love the idea of Eddie Johnston. Plus I met him once, he was very nice.

  33. Sarah says:

    It’s a sweater

  34. Pucknutz says:

I believe it is still the “correct” term . Eric our resident expert can confirm that I am sure.

DK used it today on twit thing I think – and he is a hockey pure boy.

And I seem to recall watching those media events where players change teams and refer to being proud to wear the new “sweater”.

    Sweatin now need a beer!

    DK: Sweater.

  35. Brandie says:

I vote for Badger Bob Johnson…How could you not?

  36. Iceman says:

Spirited first shift from Morrow. Like to see that. Also been impressed so far with JJ. Could be a great deadline pickup.

  37. Milo Hamilton says:

One of these days Tanner Glass is going to score a goal. No, really

    DK: How about a point?

  38. Iceman says:

    Not going to happen.

  39. Jandy says:

    See we agree again :)

  40. Iceman says:

Still referred to as a sweater. Probably will never change.

  41. Jandy says:

Get Dejan to say it won’t happen.

    DK: 79-83.

  42. Jandy says:

  43. Milo Hamilton says:

    Capital idea.

  44. Milo Hamilton says:

  45. Jandy says:

Hey no sleeping on the blog!

  46. Jandy says:

So far I like the energy and effort this game. Just need to bury some chances

  47. MadTurk says:

With all the low shots we may need to supply shovels.
When we going to learn to shoot high? That is how we scored our only goal last game. Kunitz did try once tonight.

  48. Milo Hamilton says:

Thanks Jandy. I could feel that elbow all the way from Central PA.

  49. Milo Hamilton says:

Boy do they miss their puck movers on the back line.

  50. Jandy says:

Hope it didn’t hurt too bad, Milo. It was just supposed to be a nudge. Sometimes I don’t know my own strength!

  51. Milo Hamilton says:

    Sutter’s hurt.

  52. Milo Hamilton says:

    Back on the bench.

  53. Milo Hamilton says:

    Especially against Lundquist.

  54. Jandy says:

  55. theplanisworking says:

Isnt that the ice cream thing from McDonalds??? ;)

  56. Milo Hamilton says:

    This game needs Mike Rice.

  57. theplanisworking says:

    This game needs Chris Christie!

    DK: No politics, please.

  58. Jandy says:

    lol pfffftt!!

  59. Jandy says:

    SAY IT Dejan ;)

  60. Jandy says:

    close…but no cigar :P

  61. Jandy says:

  62. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry about that plan. My fault.

  63. Jandy says:

Next elbow will be sharper :P

  64. MadTurk says:

Shot was high he must have heard me.

  65. sarah says:

    Welcome to the Burgh!

  66. Jandy says:

    he must have.

  67. theplanisworking says:

Thats ok, I am not a very political person.

I will just think back to last night’s Big Bang Theory.
    Much nicer thought. ;)

  68. Jandy says:

    And Fleury robs Stepan

  69. J Walter Weatherman says:

Good thing, because Malkin literally watched Stepan skate by him to get that wide open shot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play this bad.

  70. Jandy says:

    I’ve seen lots worse

  71. Milo Hamilton says:

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

    Let’s not lose Kunitz too.

  73. JohninOshkosh says:

    Shut it Torts!

  74. Jandy says:

    5 on 3 comin up

  75. JohninOshkosh says:

UPMC should just move to Consol. Now, Neal is wobbly with a head hit.

  76. Milo Hamilton says:

    No penalty, of course.

  77. Jandy says:

    no? Are you kidding me????

  78. Jandy says:

    friggin garage league

  79. Jandy says:

Boyle shut your pie hole. You can dish it but can’t take it, wuss

  80. JohninOshkosh says:

Playoff series between these two would be a bloodbath.

  81. theplanisworking says:

    Quit insulting garages!

  82. Milo Hamilton says:

Dupuis gets 2 minutes for whiffing.

  83. Jandy says:

hard to believe anything would be worse than Philly…but I can see it Osh Kosh

  84. Milo Hamilton says:

Why do the words raving lunatic come to mind ?

  85. MadTurk says:

Ask Milo he saw it too and knows Lungy takes away the low shots. Man this game is heating up I love it!!

  86. J Walter Weatherman says:

This turned into a fairly entertaining game

  87. MadTurk says:

    Nice call

  88. Jandy says:

  89. theplanisworking says:

  90. theplanisworking says:

  91. MadTurk says:

    Dang!!!!!!!!! 1 to 1

  92. J Walter Weatherman says:

I guess they need to get Jokinen out there for all the faceoffs

  93. Jandy says:

  94. JohninOshkosh says:

This game has my blood flowing. Lucky the Pirates are coming up to put me to sleep.

  95. theplanisworking says:

  96. J Walter Weatherman says:

Did Boyle just beat Orpik down the ice?

  97. Milo Hamilton says:

They are not the better team right now. Holding on for a point.

  98. Jandy says:

over half their line up is out….sheesh

  99. JohninOshkosh says:

The might finally get that second dash to their record line tonight.

  100. Jandy says:

  101. J Walter Weatherman says:

Fleury is the only reason the Pens got at least one point out of this game. Rangers completely dominated the 3rd period.

  102. Dom says:

Is it just me or is Fleury having a good game?

  103. Jandy says:

    don’t jinx him Dom!

  104. Jandy says:

    what a save

  105. Milo Hamilton says:

Jokinen is very good at these.

  106. Milo Hamilton says:

    30 for 66 career.

  107. Jandy says:

    c’mon Jussi

  108. Milo Hamilton says:

  109. Jandy says:

  110. Jandy says:

    Flower says no to Nash

  111. Jandy says:

    and to Zuccarelli

  112. Milo Hamilton says:

    That game was hard. :)

  113. MadTurk says:

The only shoot goal was a high one. Pens Win Pens Win

  114. Jandy says:

    and Callahan!

  115. JohninOshkosh says:

  116. Jandy says:

    my heart is pounding

  117. Jandy says:

  118. Jandy says:

OK Dom, now I will say it…Fleury was stellar!

  119. MadTurk says:

Now can the Pirates get a win? That would make for a great night.

  120. Jandy says:

  121. Dom says:

Jinx him? Fleury can’t be jinxed.

  122. TJ says:

Johnston would certainly get my vote. Will never forget meeting him and talking to him for a few moments.

  123. TJ says:

    Sid who?

  124. TJ says:

Ok so I didn’t see the hit on Neal; but I’m guessing that if it was bad enough of a hit to the head that he did not return that it should have been a penalty but I don’t see one in the box score.

Kunitz gets 5 and a misconduct for a shoulder to shoulder hit…. Lucy you gots some splainin to do.

  125. Pucknutz says:

DK thanks for the “official” confirmation!
Thought you was “off”- can’t stand to have the loonies run amok can ya!! LOL

  126. Eric Bowser says:

Great game, really enjoyable to watch that kind of playoff hockey.

Great goaltending, good defense, some scoring chances, big hits, intensity…

  127. Eric Bowser says:

Steigy & Errey were manufacturing some kind of controversy by trying to say Del Zotto purposely swung his arm and landed the elbow to Neal’s face. I mean, that’s about as absurd as the raving lunatic in Ottawa complaining about Matt Cooke.

    DK: Honestly.

  128. Pucknutz says:

Gotta agree w/ya Eric, from what I saw -just a so called “hockey play”.

  129. Pucknutz says:

  130. Pucknutz says:

Was and still is a cool guy.

  131. Jandy says:

Except Kunitz gets kicked out and DelZotto gets nada

  132. TJ says:

Doesn’t hurt when the new guy comes up bigger than the other 3 have so far.

  133. MadTurk says:

The guy who will be demoted to the third line when he gets back :-)

  134. Dave G says:

    Neal injured tonight?

Time to get rid of those cursed black sweaters?

  135. NastyNate82 says:

Every team has injuries. Rangers really miss Marc Staal.

  136. NastyNate82 says:

Pens did plenty of clutchin’ and grabbin’ themselves in that game. Refs really seemed to have swallowed their whistles for most of it.

  137. TJ says:

How many “hockey” plays require a player to leave their skates?

Del Zotto left his feet; and regardless of whether it was intentional or not his elbow made contact with the head of another player.
