  1. Bizrow says:

Well, just wondering what treasured memory today will bring us?

  2. Joey Mellons says:

How about 3 hits instead of 2.

  3. Bizrow says:

Right now, I’d probably bet the under

  4. NorthPirateFan says:

A 39 year old UTI starting at SS in a game that will determine whether they get swept just two series in to the season is plenty for me. Anything more would just be salt in the wounds.

  5. Officer Mancuso says:

    I’m having a panic attack.

  6. Officer Mancuso says:

Hey, there are 3 ways to lose that one. No thanks!

  7. Bizrow says:

    100 units on TWO

    Thanks

  8. Dave G says:

    Cheer up, Sir

The Bucs have faced some quality pitching so far this season.

Wait til later this summer when they… ummm… face them all again…

    Never mind.

  9. JMB says:

Ryu is hittable, so today is the day.

On the bright side, AJ is raising his trade value. I can’t remember what his no-trade ten teams are, but one of the possibilities should have some value for 2014.

  10. cherokee23 says:

With the exception of several weeks early last summer, it seems pretty obvious that this team can’t hit with any consistency. Hitting coaches don’t seem to matter. At some point have to realize “It is what it is!” with most of these guys. Almost every game I watch, I’m reminded of Ryan Doumit’s “Dude! We’re gonna Hit!” comment. Makes me laugh every time!

  11. bman says:

I’ll go 20 units on ZERO

Excited to see the Window back for 2013!! And cool to see the Window on Twitter as well (@TheBuccoWindow)!!

  12. Joey Mellons says:

    Zero/25 units.

  13. cosmo says:

    50 units on 1 HR.

  14. JohninOshkosh says:

Remember that one time the Pirates scored a run? That was great.

  15. Pucknutz says:

    100 on 0

  16. cherokee23 says:

Have heard Hurdle either say this or infer it several times already. I don’t like it. This is the Major Leagues, the pitchers you face are gonna be good day in & day out for the most part. Hurdle can only play the guys he’s given, but most of these guys have had several chances to show whether they can hit consistently or not….they are what they are….not good enough

  18. Bizrow says:

Samardzija has 13 K’s in 5 2/3 today vs the Braves

  19. JohninOshkosh says:

Yeah, the Marlins started a 20 year old, Jose Fernandez, who has never pitched above single A, against the Mets. Went 5 innings, gave up 3 hits and 1 ER. Nice debut for the kid. Like debut stories like that.

  20. Officer Mancuso says:

Why is Locke, not Wandy, following Burnett in the pitching rotation today?

  21. JMB says:

    Littlefield!

    aka NEWMAN!

  22. Arriba Wilver says:

    100 units on Zero.

  23. JAL says:

Because the off day after game 1 gave AJ regular rest but Wandy would be on short rest today. Wandy pitched April 3rd so would pitching on 3 days rest today

  24. Drew71 says:

    No.

  25. Officer Mancuso says:

    Thanks JAL!

  26. Bizrow says:

Those are the memories I’m talking about…..

  27. Stuart says:

Playoffs, I’ll wait till its over/under again.

Hurdle said he had a friend call him “Captain Deadwood”. Hope it sticks. BTW what is spring training for if not to get ready for the season. The Bucs are not ready.

    Stuart

  28. Playoffs/Roberto my friend, I’m going to go with 50 on 1 HR for today.

Day game in LA, and as Bob Walk says the ball travels different during the day. They are bound to hit one. There were at least two to three balls hit the past two nights by the Pirates that sounded good off the bat, but died. Now the Dodgers, on the other hand must have not received that memo about the ball traveling different at night – they have two during the series. Good day, fine sirs.

  29. JosePagan says:

Greg Brown was going on today about the “balanced roster” and how it is better than last season’s. Perhaps Hurdle is trying to give everyone a chance to display their ineptitude.

    Jose

  30. John Lease says:

Hey, a McKenry sighting! And that turd Old McDonald will get his first official Pirate at bat.

I guess this makes it an officially awesome day. Good thing I’m going to the dentist tomorrow, which will be a bit of an upswing.

  31. JosePagan says:

One wonders why this seems to be coming as such a surprise to Clint. Surely he must have looked at the schedule at some point and realized that the PBC would indeed being playing in the majors, rather than AAA this season.

On the good news front, Brad Inge hit a home run in a AAA game today, according to Brownie. Can’t hardly wait for him to join the big club. or something.

    Jose

  32. JosePagan says:

Kershaw is hittable too. Yesterday wasn’t the day. What makes today different?

    Jose

  33. Officer Mancuso says:

Random reflections: When I first went to a Pirates game Bing Crosby was one of the owners, and the GM who broke the MLB color barrier was our GM. Pittsburgh ranked much higher in the list of USA’s largest cities, and was even more outsized if you listed cities by number of major corporations headquartered there.

Corporations (see “Mellon bank” ) have no loyalty to location, and now there are none left. We have “non-profits” as the city’s largest employer, extorting a troll’s ransom from workers who labored for decades making the city’s industrial giants profitable.

Now the industries have moved on to greener pastures, and a profiteer from West Virginia owns our storied baseball team.

  34. JosePagan says:

That clever rascal Clint! Keeping Martin fresh for the day when both he AND Brad Inge can be in the same lineup! I swoon at the thought that Travis “Dripping With Power” Snider will join them.

    Jose

  35. Bizrow says:

    Theres one!!!!

  36. JMB says:

    Boom!

  37. Sorry, wife on the computer, but there is my dinger from Cutch! I’d gladly lose 50 duckets if they can hit some more!!!

  38. Steelag70 says:

Good start…of course by Cutch, and Marte hopefully is getting in a groove…now…if Pedro could just get a hit sometime soon…

  39. Arriba Wilver says:

Second time you mentioned Walker as an All-Star. What league are you referring to? You had it right the first time–Gaby and Cutch were MLB All-Stars.

  40. JHadar says:

I’ve been a bit down after the last three games, and no doubt others have vented along the same lines as I’m about to,

    but ….

A team batting average of .117 after 145 at bats. If a single player did that you would probably give him an unconditional release. (Unless he was a shortstop?)

    A team ERA of 2.08 and a 1-4 record????????

Five games into the season and only seven players have a batting average??????

Only two players hitting over the Mendoza line????????

Is Jeff King installing some new system that the players aren’t buying into, or did he just inherit an even bigger mess that we thought possible?

What is going on? Seriously? This would be impossible if it wasn’t happening.

    Reality: .117

    Reality 2.08

    Reality 1-4

And still wouldn’t be nice if the hitting snapped out of it and the pitching remained effective? The optimist in me likes to believe that that can happen.

Sorry if this has been beat to death earlier, but sometimes a little venting helps.

Comes down to it, and I’m just a fan. Ill root for the Bucs win or lose, but I sure to prefer winning.

  41. Arriba Wilver says:

    Vintage Locke.

  42. Officer Mancuso says:

    Bravo!

  43. JosePagan says:

No, I didn’t. But Kershaw is not unhittable, otherwise he would never lose a game. Is Ryu in Kershaw’s category? No. Neither is Travis Wood.

Hitting is not automatic just because Ryu is pitching….

    Jose

  44. By all means get a lead and try to give it back.

  45. Arriba Wilver says:

First post blaming Jeff King, JH. :-)

  46. JHadar says:

Tounge ever so slightly in cheek.

  47. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  48. Shift kills the Pirates offensively and defensively. They always hit into them, and they always let the other team hit by them. Tie game already!

  49. JRay3 says:

Go figure, we spot a pitcher two runs in the first and Locke promptly gives up three hits consecutively to give lead away.

  50. JHadar says:

Wow, I wonder if we can lose a slugfest, too.

  51. Steelag70 says:

That great depth of our starting pitching is really showing today… ;)

  52. Bizrow says:

When you flood the system with guys like Locke……

  53. Officer Mancuso says:

Cutch is the real deal. But not even Babe Ruth could have carried this hapless bunch of losers on his broad back. May I again express utter contempt for “Practice Swing” Alvarez? If NH really is smarter than the team’s fans, perhaps he can enlighten us as to what his Commodore saw in that man’s stats?

  54. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Hooray for finally scoring a run in LA, but Jeff Locke takes care of
    that immediately.

  55. Steelag70 says:

I am even beginning to have my doubts about Walker…he needs to ditch hitting from the right side.

  56. Officer Mancuso says:

This is demonstrably the most hapless team in professional sports.

  57. JosePagan says:

While others were wondering if Ryu was hittable they forgot to ask if Locke was as well…

    Jose

  58. JosePagan says:

But they gave up Years of Kontrol!!! The Horror, The Horror!

    Jose

  59. Bizrow says:

Jose, we all know the answer to that question about Locke, we’ve seen him before. Ryu, his first start vs PBC

  60. Officer Mancuso says:

A proud city’s diaspora, who’ve had to traverse a continent to earn a wage, waits breathlessly to hear from “All’s well in Paradise” Roberto.

  61. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Jose…Always good to cross paths with you.

  62. MadTurk says:

Just got home from out playing I the warm weather. What happened we have 2 runs did the Dodgers feel bad and spot us 2? I can’t believe we would actually score them ourselves. Oh wait to do have the blasting backups in today right?

  63. radio wave says:

What is wrong with Walker so far this year? A lot of Ace pictures were knocked around MLB pretty good today. Almost as shocking as a Pirates homerun. For the first time in days I have a little hope.

  64. MadTurk says:

Looks like I have Jandy disease. )Typo’s)

  65. Officer Mancuso says:

Call me ” lucky in Chicago”

  66. JosePagan says:

The opportunities have been limited lately, Daq, but likewise!

    Jose

  67. Officer Mancuso says:

Walker was advertised by the GM as no good.

DK: And the farm director benched and PUBLICLY ADMONISHED Walker for not running out an INFIELD FLY. You know, that play where you’re automatically called out?

Hey, who needs actual experience at these jobs?

  68. Bizrow says:

ROOT had a flashback on Lastings Milledge.

How many exPBC players are not having sushi?

  69. Officer Mancuso says:

    NealHuntingtonSucks.

  70. Steelag70 says:

And there is the GW RBI…haha…

  71. JRay3 says:

Well that is fundamental baseball…double, sac bunt, sac fly and Dodgers take lead 3-2. Amazing how some teams just know how to play the game.

  72. Bizrow says:

OOPs, I meant are having sushi

  73. Bizrow says:

We just don’t have the knowledge Neal does. Plus he has a family, and it hurts him to read criticism

Other than that, your post is + 17645638265.5

  74. Steelag70 says:

Walker needs to give up hitting from the right side…

  75. John Lease says:

I’m with you on that practice swing. Drives me nuts. It looks like he is saying to all the world, see I can hit the ball.

A dude like that should be doing Pops windmill. Make your whiffs exciting Pedro. You get enough of them, they can’t all be looking!

  76. Bizrow says:

But, they can’t carry telephone poles worth a lick

  77. JohninOshkosh says:

    Exactly JP. :)

  78. John Lease says:

I still have one sister left back home, the rest of the relatives are rooting from the cemetery. And how is it possible that cemetery doesn’t have an A in there?

  79. John Lease says:

That’s true, we just aren’t sophisticated enough to enjoy eating turd sandwiches each and every year.

Youngsters are though. They’ve never been served anything BUT turd sandwiches. They find them invigorating.

  80. John Lease says:

How are they jamming their fists into sandpiles though?

I bet our minor leaguers would destroy them in that.

  81. Steelag70 says:

I forgot…Pedro doesn’t start his season until May at least….

  82. cherokee23 says:

Not sure if the stats back it up or not, but to the “eye test’, I think Walker has been trending down since his first season

  83. radio wave says:

How many times has Alvarez struck out so far this year?

  84. Reading says:

I didn’t even have time to get on the bandwagon today before the lead was gone. With that one-run insurmountable deficit, the bandwagon will have to wait for AZ.

  85. JRay3 says:

Pedro just one of many that look lost at the plate…Fort continues to sting the ball in his chances, just hitting right at them. Our RF albatross is a head scratcher, going to need production from the corner OF and Tabby and Snider are what 0 for 6 games?

  86. cherokee23 says:

Pedro can look so lost at the plate so often, it could make you think he could hit 30 homers by accident…..wait, he did that last year

  87. Thundercrack says:

McKenry batting in front of Pedro. That’s a problem.

Bit after seeing that last ab by Pedro I may understand why

  88. Steelag70 says:

Pedro probably has as many K’s as Burnett does this year…

  89. tdb1977 says:

Thanks RF. I see the mobile device put me on the wrong thread. Hope the entry made it, in time.

  90. JohninOshkosh says:

What’s the old baseball saw? You cannot win a pennant in April but you can lose one.

At least they are dressed like a visiting ballclub today. Not a fan of the softball look sported last night.

  91. JosePagan says:

But he puts together great bullpens that consistently finish at the statistical bottom of the National League every season! he Knows More Than We Do.

Lastings Milledge, at least he could hit the ball. of course, he ran the outfield routes like a flea on meth…unlike Travis Snider, who has to watch those hamstrings so he can continue to drip power.

    Jose

  92. JosePagan says:

Plus, our minor leagers get up lots earlier in the morning.

Hoka hey! Today’s a good day to wake up early!

    Loose lips sink ships…

    jose

  93. JRay3 says:

You don’t like bringing out the colors from the tops worn by the Pirates of the 70′s? Grey gets kind of boring to me.

  94. JRay3 says:

Time for Locke to help his cause and get runner into scoring position.

  95. JosePagan says:

Next up on ROOT: The Bobby Crosby Era…

    Jose

  96. JosePagan says:

    For which team?

    Jose

  97. JRay3 says:

Or not…would really be nice if our pitchers could lay down a bunt when needed.

  98. cmat0829 says:

I WANT to believe in Pedro but my goodness he looks completely lost. Can he not recognize pitches coming out of the pitchers hand? He lets hittable fastballs go by, he lunges and swings at curves out of the zone and he is late on fastballs often because he is “guessing” offspeed. I’d like to request someone ask him and Jay Bell directly on the approach at the plate, pitch recognition, stance in terms of closer to the plate to cover outside sliders, etc. Seems to me we are way past time for him to make adjustments.

  99. Steelag70 says:

    Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals…

  100. Thundercrack says:

Locke is 25 yrs old and has had over 60 starts at AA & AAA.

    Shoul he look so nervous?

  101. Wait, Pedro can’t hit offspeed, so if he were guessing that, you would think he might at least hit one or two of them.

  102. Do you notice him flinching on every hit, whether it is up the middle of anywhere else on the field? Looks like he is waiting for that comebacker.

  103. BillyBaduka says:

    Lol

  104. Steelag70 says:

All we heard from coaches and teammates was that Pedro’s approach at the plate was so much better this year…

  105. Reading says:

    Why pitch to Gonzalez?

  106. With first and second open, they pitch to a guy, who now has three RBIs on the day, and get BURNED. 4-2 now.

  107. Bizrow says:

And don’t forget the demerits for sloppy lockers….

  108. Bizrow says:

He said he was nervous in ST, starting against the Red Sox, for goodness sakes

  109. I hear yeah, but we all haven’t seen it. Hope it shows up soon. At least Cutch hit his first homerun in Game 6 and not in May. Maybe Pedro will heat up sooner.

  110. Bizrow says:

Commodore 64 stats said its a sure thing

  111. Thundercrack says:

This ump has not been very good today

  112. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  113. cmat0829 says:

I guess it just seems like it’s too easy for pitchers to get Pedro out. Real good pitchers will give him sliders down and away and he cant hit them. Now he seems to unable to hit 92 mph fastballs above the belt, in or out. And he has no chance against leftie curve it seems to me. I know he is an Adam Dunn type so we cant expect him to “make contact” and get singles but it seems to me he is just too easy to get out.

  114. Reading says:

Inputter of info confused RBI for K.

  115. Bizrow says:

    + 1

Those input disks, well you get them near a magnet…

  116. Steelag70 says:

    GEEBUS PEDRO!!!

  117. Steelag70 says:

I’m glad I didn’t draft Pedro in my fantasy league!!

  118. JRay3 says:

Alvarez with his 6th K in this series alone. But don’t worry Bucs fans Mr. Bob Nitting demands and expects a step forward this season and to compete for Central division title. So we must be plenty good to spot every team in this division a few games to start.

  119. Thundercrack says:

That may have been because he grew up in New England and was a fan.
But I know what you mean.

And I have read more than one article that says how smart, calm & confident he is. Haven’t seen it yet

  120. John Lease says:

Maybe that’s what is bothering his hamstrings, too much power drippage?

  121. John Lease says:

Hadn’t seen that one. It has a good utility, when these bums come up, cleaning out their lockers is done swiftly?

  122. John Lease says:

With our top notch instruction, I’m sure you are mistaken.

Or, maybe you don’t appreciate the genius of Neil? :)

  123. JRay3 says:

Tabby makes a nice hustle play only to be followed by one pitch out to Jones and one pitch out to Snider way to make the pitcher work guys…unreal.

  124. John Lease says:

Does McCutchen have a brother? Cousin? Aunt? ANYONE else?

    Getting destroyed is getting old.

I wonder what the excuses will be afetr we get swept in AZ too…

  126. Steelag70 says:

    Game, set, match…

  127. JMB says:

    11-21 here we come!

  128. Steelag70 says:

    Unreal!

  129. JRay3 says:

Leroux throws to the Dodger #9 hitter and it is Legone…5-2 Dodgers. If you are looking for a silver lining in all of this, it can only go up from here right?

  130. Bizrow says:

Well, you know, the cupboard was bare when we came here, we have flooded the system with talent

And my wife cries when she hears I am being dissed

Its all Dejan’s fault (which IMO has been said by the BMTIB on more than one occasion)

5-2 the fat lady has her voice cleared and is setting up shop

  131. Thundercrack says:

Wehner can talk until he is blue in the face about how the ball carries in the day, you cannot give up a home run to that hitter

  132. JohninOshkosh says:

Terrible AB’s, JRay. Total time both were in the box amounted to about 10 seconds.

I sure hope you bring em luck in Phoenix because, with Seller’s homer, this game is over.

  133. Steelag70 says:

So much for that vaunted bullpen!

  134. That new Trending feature at PNC would now have #PiratesgivingupmoreHRs.

  135. JRay3 says:

Difficult for this team to acclimate to time zone change? I’m reaching I know.

  136. radio wave says:

It is going to be a long year.

  137. JohninOshkosh says:

When does that marine layer come in? Unreal.

  138. Steelag70 says:

At least living here in DFW I can go watch good baseball…going to watch Darvish vs Weaver tonight…

  139. Eric Bowser says:

The kids birthday part was a success.. now I’m tired and turn on the tv… 4-2, Leroux comes in and promptly gives up a HR to a guy who didn’t have a hit.

…now looking at the box score… YAY a HR by McCutchen

  140. Arriba Wilver says:

Officer misspelled “Rocks.” — Greg Brown

  141. Eric Bowser says:

    4 hits… this team sucks.

Marte and McCutchen have 11 of team’s 21 hits….just saw that on twitter by Rob B

  142. Bizrow says:

Thank goodness for Playoffs bets, I need another dinger

  143. Eric Bowser says:

I missed the window today but after winning 100 million with the K line… I’m good.

  144. cherokee23 says:

Now I can say my day wasn’t wasted. Robbie just told me that Barmes & Mattingly have met before. This on top of his dismantling a hamburger with an egg on it wrapped in a sprinkled donut earlier in the week. Riveting television. Will Potash be back after hockey season

  145. JRay3 says:

Well Clint stops managing to win by leaving Leroux who had thrown 28 pitches in to face LH Gonzalez, now he might as well just leave Leroux in to take his lumps.

  146. JohninOshkosh says:

I guess they wanted Leroux to to learn to pitch out of jams that he created.

  147. Eric Bowser says:

Hurdle publicly comments about his strong desire to have 2 lefties in the bullpen, then he decides to keep Leroux in the game against Gonzalez.

    #Hurdled

  148. JohninOshkosh says:

This team is just not playing well. Does not help having the manager fall asleep.

  149. JRay3 says:

Will somebody, anybody please wake rhis organization up. Heck I will offer to do it Tuesday night when I’m on field for BP if I didn’t fear being escorted out.

  150. cherokee23 says:

and forcing a lady who wanted nothing to do with it to hold his once bitten “dodger dog” last night

  151. Eric Bowser says:

John – You just jumped off the bandwagon, now you’ll have RobertoForever criticizing you for being a loser and not a real fan. Great… now who do I have to look up to meet such lofty expectations of NEVER jumping off the Pirates bandwagon.

  152. Eric Bowser says:

Don’t you know Huntington builds great pitching staffs…

  153. Jason81 says:

That’s actually bacon grease he’s dripping.

  154. Boise Bucco says:

Well, at least Huntingdon didn’t burn down the house and trade everybody away knowing that this was his last year unless he was successful.

  155. cherokee23 says:

Over/under on Grillis hair by end of year…..over or under the name on his back?

  156. Karen22 says:

How are we going to win ELEVEN?!

  157. JohninOshkosh says:

I think the bandwagon crashed off one of those winding roads they have along the California coastline.

Hope your kid had a good birthday. A good reminder that there are far more important things in the world than these stinking Pirates.

  158. Karen22 says:

    Why?

  159. Bob Hasis says:

Grilli might be the only “closer” in baseball history with NO saves! He’ll never get a chance.

  160. Bob Hasis says:

Oh that’s right – he has one

  161. Woomer says:

It looks like the Pirates are doing the same thing this year as they did the past 2 years — working their way into 1st place and then completely collapsing. Unfortunately they did it a bit earlier this season — being tied for 1st after the second game of the season and then immediately beginning a losing streak.

  162. JohninOshkosh says:

When do the Penguins play again?

  163. Eric Bowser says:

both kids had a great time, thanks!!

  164. JosePagan says:

That first outing really was a key indicator for Ryu’s performance today, wasn’t it?

    Jose

  165. Bob Hasis says:

Don’t you get excited when you see Pedro or Tabata waiting on deck?

  166. Eric Bowser says:

    Kyle Stark – Hoka Hey
Neal Huntington – Our fans don’t know anything.
Frank Coonelly – We’ll be playing October baseball.
    Clint Hurdle – 95 wins

Is there a more embarrassing baseball organization?

  167. Frankie says:

Bob, another k for Pedro…..tell Little Eddie Hi.

  168. Eric Bowser says:

pretty windy in Pittsburgh, I’d say those winds are coming from the west thanks to Pedro Alvarez.

  169. The Gunner says:

The Gunner (Pittsburgh 15220) is present & accounted for.

  170. JosePagan says:

Jeff Clement has been brought in as a Special Consultant – he of “Light Tower Power.”

    Go Neal!

    Jose

  171. Eric Bowser says:

Pirates are 1-5, they will need to go 94-62 to get Hurdle’s 95 wins.

  172. JosePagan says:

    To Infinity and Beyond!

    Jose

  173. Milo Hamilton says:

    No.

  174. MadTurk says:

Yes even on a deep fly ball. I noticed that as well.

  175. cherokee23 says:

Doesn’t Neal H speak on Sundays? Did he have anything noteworthy to say today

  176. JosePagan says:

Kyle Stark personally instructed Jeff on unleashing his inner “Hello Kitty” to make him a better bunter.

    Jose

  177. Bob Hasis says:

Little Eddie is 6’2″ and 215. Starting at LB for West Virginia Wesleyan next season.

    LOL

Will do Frankie. Will he know who you are?

  178. JosePagan says:

Thats because Ray Searage is waving the return trip ticket for a flight to Indy at him…

    Jose

  179. Eric Bowser says:

If anyone has the audio, I’d like to hear it.

  180. The Gunner says:

    Lucky

Remember what I said last week about the Bucs. I said let’s see where they are after the road trip before we push the panic button. Well, they are 60% thru the road trip and they sure haven’t given us much to be excited about. They better put on a better showing in Arizona. NH needs to be the 1st head to roll.

The best thing to happen this weekend was the induction of the Living Legend, Bruno Sammartino into the WWE Hall of Fame.

  181. JosePagan says:

The race to the statistical bottom of the heap has begun in earnest.

You have to give him credit: he’s consistent.

    Jose

  182. Daquido_Bazzini says:

“Even if you’re rooting for the Dodgers, you have to have some heart and hope this kid at least hits the ball”-Vin Scully regarding Pedro batting in the 9th

  183. JosePagan says:

Great school and Buckhannon is just a cool little town. Good luck to him…

    Jose

  184. Woomer says:

Wow….the Pirates have scored 8 runs in 6 games. No other team has fewer than 13. And six teams have 36 or more. Where did the people running this team get the idea that this group of players could score?

  185. Arriba Wilver says:

    That’s sad.

  186. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    It’s VERY sad!
I’ve never heard an opposing announcer so sincere and sympathetic.

  187. Milo Hamilton says:

Every time I think that all the losing might not be so bad because it gets us closer to the end of this regime, I’m reminded that the same guy that brought us this group will bring us the next.

  188. JosePagan says:

    Unfortuantely…

    Jose

  189. Bob Hasis says:

    Thanks Jose

  190. Eric Bowser says:

Maybe… just maybe… Nutting will act like he cares about the long-term family business long enough to hire a qualified person to run this organization.

  191. SeanAY says:

At least they’re breaking my heart in April this year and not September.

This means I should be able to get over the grief well before the end of the season. Unlike last year, which stung all the way to the end.

  192. Eric Bowser says:

Yeah, I don’t think we’re seeing .500 again this season.

  193. JohninOshkosh says:

Gotta say for a dude on vacation, Dejan has been on fire with laser beam tweets from his couch. Yesterday, Duquesne felt the wrath. Today, the Pirates.

  194. Eric Bowser says:

that’s the great thing about Twitter, he can give his opinion without a schedule of having to do so.

  195. Milo Hamilton says:

What did he say about Duquesne ?

  196. Dave G says:

I just woke up (working midnights).

    And I see I didn’t miss anything.

  197. Eric Bowser says:

Pirates are 1-5 in the first week of the season and have 22 games left to play this month.

    I’m thinking they’ll go 6-16 to close out a 7-21 month.

  198. Eric Bowser says:

I missed most of the game myself… consider ourselves lucky.

  199. Bill Born says:

The Bucs’ are just being patriotic -
Taking the lead of our President by leading from behind.

  200. Karen22 says:

    What do you mean “again??”

  201. Milo Hamilton says:

If the Devils lose tonight, the Pens clinch a playoff spot. Hey, it’s something.

  202. JohninOshkosh says:

    Milo:

It was stuff about Duquesne’s handling of the basketball shootings. He provided a link to a You Tube video about Sam Ashaolu.

I believe his quote about Old Main was “cesspool.”

He erased it today. See his note to RF above.

  203. Eric Bowser says:

    They were 1-1…. LOL

  204. Eric Bowser says:

We need a Cup run for the Penguins because I think that’s slated to end the last week in June and then we can skip the Pirates and go right to Steelers training camp.

  205. Milo Hamilton says:

You know, making the playoffs every year is nice. But I can’t help but think it would be more fulfilling if they talked more about “the process”.

  206. theplanisworking says:

  208. Milo Hamilton says:

    Thanks John.

May I nominate , as an honorary member, New Castle’s own Mr. Charles Tanner, who guided the Pirates to their last World Series Championship.

    Thanks.

  211. theplanisworking says:

  212. theplanisworking says:

    anyone heard from Aki recently?

  213. theplanisworking says:

I thought it was “Soft Kitty”…….

  214. Eric Bowser says:

In Canada, they talk about the PRO-cess and PRA-cess, so obviously the Penguins have their cesses covered.

    so were the Rockford Peaches……..

  219. theplanisworking says:

    +1 for you.
    +1 for Vin.

  221. theplanisworking says:

    This just in from Huntington………..
even turtles are smarter than all of you…….

  222. Eric Bowser says:

I don’t get the turtles reference, did I miss something ??

  223. Jandy says:

NJ 1 Buffalo 1 end of first

  224. Jandy says:

I dunno either but it makes me think of chocolate and caramel ;)

  225. Officer Mancuso says:

One person has left Pittsburgh in search of work? This is the last time I ill address you directly, as I don’t believe in feeding self-important, self referential whining sociopathic trolls, but Robero, in you, Nutting has found a worthy fan.

  226. SJB says:

it was on Tosh.0 Google it on youtube.

  227. SJB says:

it’s got like 40 million hits

  228. Officer Mancuso says:

Let’s just say that as #1 draft picks go, Pedro won’t cause anyone to be remembered as having an eye for talent. Perhaps they scouted the pretentious practice swing.

  229. Milo Hamilton says:

I think I got it. Daniel McCutchen took all the steroids with him.

  230. Thundercrack says:

We’re not last in our division.

    We’re TIED for last.

  231. Jandy says:

does that mean I can have a beer?

  232. Drew71 says:

Anyone know who the Pirates are likely to take with the first pick in the draft in 2014?

  233. Milo Hamilton says:

    We have to ask ?

  234. Eric Bowser says:

I haven’t heard of anyone being tagged as the next one like Bryce Harper or Stephen Strasburg…

  235. Thundercrack says:

    Have 2

  236. Jandy says:

Buffalo 2 NJ 1 3 minutes left in the second

  237. Jandy says:

    sounds like a plan

  238. Thundercrack says:

    You haven’t been paying attention.

Before last year’s draft NH has been warning fans that the talent level is not deep for the 2013 & 2014 draft. Unfortunately for Neal and all the fans, this coincides with a free agent list that isn’t deep either. So says NH.

  239. Eric Bowser says:

Apparently NC State LH pitcher Carlos Rondon is the top guy

“as a true freshman last season, posting a 9-0 record and 1.57 ERA with 135/41 K/BB and 71 hits allowed in 114.2 innings.”

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1519769-how-next-years-mlb-draft-class-superstar-talent-compares-to-2013

  240. pattonbb says:

Good pitching makes bad hitting teams look terrible. There’s no way that team is this bad. No way. Except for Gabby Sanchez. He’s terrible.

    That’s all I have.

  241. theplanisworking says:

makes me think of slow, slow, slow losing……..

  242. Arriba Wilver says:

Actually, I think Neal was saying that last year for the 2013 draft. The 2014 draft was supposed to be deeper . . . until they didn’t sign Appel. Then it became a weak draft, too.

  243. theplanisworking says:

    someone call me? ;)

  244. theplanisworking says:

Joe Shlabotnik’s glove. And a resin bag too……

  245. Jandy says:

    you’re paying attention ;)

  246. Arriba Wilver says:

I Feel much better. They won’t end the season with a .167 winning percentage. ;-)

  247. Eric Bowser says:

No way am I giving Jackson, Wood, Ryu or a variety of relievers that much credit.

    Jeff Samardzija – 8 IP
    Edwin Jackson – 5 IP
    Travis Wood – 6 IP
    Zach Greinke – 6.1 IP
    Clayton Kershaw – 7 IP
    Hyun-Jin Ryu – 6.1 IP
    Starters: 38 2/3 IP
    Relievers: 14 1/3 IP

  248. Jandy says:

NJ and Buffalo tied 2-2 14 minutes left in the third

  249. Thundercrack says:

Ha! You may be right AW.

But I may have also heard K. Law say the same thing. And he hates the Pirates :-)

  250. Eric Bowser says:

’13 is supposed to be weak and ’14 about 10-15 deep of quality arms and bats.

  251. Arriba Wilver says:

I have no idea. I get my info from Neal. I, personally, was under the impression at the time of last years draft, that one of the reasons that NOT signing Appel wasn’t such a big deal was that this years draft was deeper. Then, after the draft, the 2014 draft sucked, too. But far be it for me to suggest the Pirates FO might be trying to shape the facts. (That is pure sarcasm, if it isn’t clear).

  252. Chuck H says:

Is anybody ready to admit that Pedro looks lost at the plate. Three out of the four at-bats,
he took the first pitch-right down the middle for strike one. That leaves him only two
strikes to swing wildly at, which he did, and looked like a fool. I bet that if the pitcher rolled it in, he would still swing. Honestly, the whole team sucks, but the Pirates cannot afford a
player who doesn’t even try to make contact. He is probably the worst hitter ever.

  253. Eric Bowser says:

I’d like to know how you “build up” to the regular season and Alvarez looks this terrible.

  254. Jandy says:

    now in OT

  255. Milo Hamilton says:

    Sez you. :)

  256. Jandy says:

Shoot Out. I’m off to bed…4am comes too soon. Night!

  257. The Gunner says:

    Sufferin Catfish Eric!

Even if they end up 1-27 instead of the 7-21 you mention, it doesn’t matter. As long as B-Nut’s Income Statement shows plenty of profit, that’s all the matters.

  258. Eric Bowser says:

Ryan Miller clinches playoffs for the Penguins!!!

  259. Milo Hamilton says:

Pens are in the playoffs. There I go focusing on stupid results again.

  260. The Gunner says:

Maybe Daydro is a slow starter like Adam LaRoche. Worse yet, maybe Andy LaRoche.

  261. theplanisworking says:

Neal Huntington’s Pirates: results dont matter, its the process that counts.

Ray Shero’s Penguins: results do matter, process be damned.

That is difference between being all in vs. nothing to be in with……..

  262. The Gunner says:

Yeah, what was this guy swinging at when he struck out at the end of the game. Maybe salary dumping time will come early this year.

  263. Milo Hamilton says:

Back in the 80′s the Pens went 6 straight years without making the playoffs, and I thought that was a long time.

  264. Well, like Cutch said before they left Pittsburgh, at least they’re not getting beat 6-2 or anything like that. Oh, wait………

I believe he said 15-0, but 2 runs in a 3-game set doesn’t take much to beat you.

  265. Arriba Wilver says:

    +1

  266. I was really looking forward to this season, too. Not sure why. Still not sure.

  267. Eric Bowser says:

I look forward to Cole pitching in June…

  268. Woomer says:

I agree that Pirate ownership needs to put more money into player salaries to keep up with the rest of MLB. I mean, $66 million and change just doesn’t cut it at all in this day and age.

But to your opinion about “plenty of profits”, DK just answered that one in the chat this week to my satisfaction. He wrote: “Lustig confirmed the ownership does NOT take profits from the team, that all the money goes back into baseball ops. Been writing that for years.” And that was DK capitalizing “not”, not me.

  269. Arriba Wilver says:

I look forward to Neal and FC getting fired, no matter when it is.

  270. JRay3 says:

    Billy Butler had 7 RBI’s today in 4 AB’s, the Pirates have 8 RBI’s in 6 games and 177 AB’s.

  271. theplanisworking says:

    + 1,000,000,000,000, ;)

  272. Mizery says:

I don’t watch the games, but when the game is over I like to jump on the blog because the comments are far more entertaining then the actual play of the organization.

  273. Karen22 says:

Oh, DUH! Seems so long ago already!

  274. JohninOshkosh says:

If they ever make a movie about this blog, Bobby Moynihan will play Chuck H.

  275. JohninOshkosh says:

Sorry, JRay, meant that post to stand on its own. But while, I’m replying I seem to recall the Buccos won 2 out of 3 when you saw them in Arizona last April. So I’ll hang my hat on that. :)

  276. DemonDachshund says:

Marlins might give them a run for the money…

  277. JRay3 says:

Indeed they did great recall. I will be thrilled with that if we see a repeat this time around. Face Cahill, McCarthy and Miley who is battling a bit of a dead arm in the set so there certainly is a chance.

Admire what GM Towers has done with that team, adding Cody Ross, Martin Prado, Aaron Hill, locking up Montero and Goldshmidt long term just a bunch of guys who play the game the right way and battle you all nine innings each night. If only NH could do the same in constructing a team.

  278. Stupid Dodgers-garbage-face
(if anyone remembers what “stupid … garbage face” line comes from I’ll throw in 20 free points)

Crap-tacular weekend. Tome to turn it around in AZ.

    One home-run wins today’s line.
Pirates starting pitchers managed 16.3 total innings this weekend to the UNDER wins that line.
The Pirates got a big ole’ 0 wins this weekend, so the UNDER wins that as well.

***By the way, I will start giving some odds on PICK ‘EM lines, if the group would prefer that I do.***
