  1. Should have taken warning
It’s just people mourning, running, hiding, lost
Couldn’t find, find a place to go
So it’s RED skies at night, RED skies at night
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh, oh

Hope the Bucs can FIXX their offense this weekend….

    Time for THREE-PLAY FRIDAY!!
Let’s open The Window…What’ll ya have? What’ll ya have?
As always this is just for fun and entertainment purposes.

Max “wager” is 100 units on each separate line.
All “wagers” must be divisible by 5.
Please reply in this box, makes it much easier for me to “book-keep” that way.

    LINE #1
Total COMBINED HITS by Neil Walker + Pedro Alvarez in tonight’s game
    LINE is 3.5

    LINE #2
Total RUNS SCORED by the Pirates this weekend against the Reds
    Line is 8.5

    LINE #3
Total WINS by the Pirates this weekend against the Reds
    Line is 1.5

Anyone can play, and everyone should try!

**The Window is on twitter, @TheBuccoWindow, feel free to follow**

Thanks to all for playing and good luck!!

    • 75 under on all 3.

    • OK, let me have:

      1) UNDER 100 units (hope I’m wrong)
      2) OVER 100 units (should be easy, no?)
      3) OVER, 100 units (they take 2 of 3)

    • Line 1 50/Under

      Line 2 50/Over

      Line 3 50/Under

      I thank you.

    • 100 on the under on line 1
100 on the under for line 2
100 on the over for line 3

    • Good afternoon to the Window…well a big 10 game home stand begins tonight with the first six against division foes, time for the team to show us some indication of how it will fare this season against the favorites. On to three play Friday:

Line 1 – Well Mike Leake made five starts against the Pirates last year. In those starts he allowed just 30 hits or 6 a game even thought the Reds were just 2-3 in those contests. Couple that with the fact that in nine games this season neither Walker or Alvarez own a multi-hit game and one would need to do so in this line.

100 on the UNDER for line 1

Line 2- In nine games this season the Pirates have scored a whopping 21 runs or 2.33 runs a game. In six three game sets with the Reds last season the team’s run totals were 4, 7, 17, 10, 7, 5…four time falling under the total and only two times going over the total and those came in the summer. I want to believe the bats break out but Cueto and Latos have been tough on the Bucs and there is not enough evidence to suggest it happens here.

75 on the UNDER for line 2

Line 3 – The Reds went 11-7 versus Pittsburgh last season with the Pirates getting 2 wins in just 2 of the 6 series between the two. The Pirates are piecing together their pitching probables with Wandy forced to skip a start and Locke going in another. Tonight really is a must win with AJ on the mound. Too much for the Pirates to overcome my gut tells me.

      100 on the UNDER

Hoping the team can prove the numbers wrong…thanks and Let’s Go Bucs!

    • 100 each
      UNDER all 3 lines

    • I’ll take:

      100 under #1
      100 under #2
      100 over #3

    • Trying to figure out which way to go with these 3 has made my head hurt, so I’ll just fling some mud at the wall and hope it sticks…

      Line 1–100 on the UNDER
      Line 2–50 on the OVER
      Line 3–25 on the OVER

    • Line # 1 – 100 on the under
      Line # 2 – 100 on the over
      Line # 3 – 100 on the over

    • 1—–100 under
      2—–100 over
      3—–100 under

    • Playoffs, Lets go with:

      Line 1 – Under 100
      Line 2 – Over 100
      Line 3 – Over 100

      Thanks. Let’s go Bucs!!

    • Window,
100 escudos each on the under for all three.

    • 1. 50 on UNDER
      2. 75 on OVER
      3. 100 on UNDER

Merci beaucoup for keeping us involved, Playoffs!

    • 75 under all 3 please Mr. Playoffs

    • Over on all three. 35 units on each line.

    • Line #1—100 on the UNDER
      Line #2—50 on the UNDER
      Line #3—25 on the OVER

      Thanks, Playoffs!

    • @playoffs:

Line 1: 50 on the UNDER
Line 2: 50 on the OVER
Line 3: 50 on the UNDER

    • Playoffs, you’re a beautiful person. JRay jumps right in with his stuff. Just a lurker here, but this is one great blog – - except those times when a few go for the super snarky or butthurt. – - which I do not get at all. No way, no how.

  3. Well, I see me and my buddy JMB are tied for the cellar,

    Gotta change that

100 nuclear nuggets on lines 1, 2 and 3 on the OVAH

    Its only nuclear nuggets ;-)

  4. Lets see now….

Line 1 – 100 gold talents on the under
Line 2 – 75 talents on the over
Line 3 -100 talents on the under

    Thanks Playoffs!

BTW, that collective wail just heard across North America was from the National League hitters after hearing that Chris Leroux was DFA’d. Lets go Buccos!

  5. Skimmed through the discussion about Carlos Quentin and Zack Greinke on previous thread. I’ve always felt it an injustice that pitchers can throw missiles at the hands, elbows and heads of batters with virtual impunity. That fact that (some) teams get a modicum of vengeance on a pitcher’s teammate in the next frame does not even it out. By then, A) everybody knows it’s coming, B) the stakes are usually not the same, and C) the pitcher who started it all is not the one paying the price. (Even when they do get a suspension, it’s a joke because the suspension is finished before their next start anyway). Along with Chapman nailing Cutch, Roger Clemens throwing at Mike Piazza’s head and Cole Hamels hitting Bryce Harper (as a “welcome”) stand out as other examples of chicken_ _ _t pitchers throwing at opposing players with impunity. Perhaps for just a little while anyway, pitchers will think twice about being Carlos Quentined before they aim at a batter.

    • That said, as there is an exception to every rule and senitment, I do exempt Nolan Ryan for that one time he stood his ground and womped on the brash Robin Ventura’s face.

      • That was a great fight. Nolan grabbed Ventura around the neck with his arm and let go with the other arm on Ventura’s face. Ventura was a young strong man and Ryan was middle aged. I remember Ventura walking away red faced and embarrassed.

        • It was pretty cool. Ryan should get another no-hitter put in the books for how he shut down Ventura and pounded him.

  6. I know it seems counterintuitive, but…
    100 under
    100 under
    100 over
    Pitching gets it done.

  7. If you haven’t posted your place of residence, please add a reply to this post with where a lunatic resides, I think we are close to 330 locations

  8. First wager of the season for me. Good to see you back here, playoffs!

    Line #1:
    50 on the under

    Line #2:
    50 on the over

    Line #3:
    100 on the under

  9. Just saw the movie “42″ today. It was pretty good. It really went into the verbal abuse that he took on and off the field. Of course there were several instances of people laughing when Pittsburgh was brought up. Of course back in the later 40′s through the mid-50′s the Bucs mostly sucked as well, so that is pretty much why they were laughin. Just couldn’t help thinking of how Branch Rickey was also instrumental to bringing in Roberto Clemente to the Pirates.

    • Branch Rickey did good!!!!

      • Does Rickey belong on the honorary ‘Lunatics List?”

        • I thought about that, what do the lunatics think? Part of me says, he’s represented by Roberto, but, due in part to your question, it made me think, he helped break the color barrier, which the reason for such a barrier is probably the stupidest thing I’ve seen in my lifetime

          Hope that made sense

          • I would say no. His record as GM in Pittsburgh was uneven. He did help build what would become the ’60 World Champs. But I think Clemente represents what needs to be represented for him on the list.

    • I’m going to it tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Interested to see how Christopher Meloni does as Durocher and John McGinley does as Red Barber.

Saw an interview with the director. He said he spent a lot of time talking to Rachel Robinson and Ralph Branca, who just happens to be Bobby Valentine’s father in law.

  10. “If Chris Leroux clears waivers, he can refuse assignment to the minor leagues and become a free agent since he has been outrighted before.”

    Stop getting my hopes up.

  11. For Ohio viewers, all three games this weekend are on Fox Sports Ohio. (Blacked out on MLB GameCenter)

  12. My statement Wednesday night:

    Groat2Maz2Strangeglove says:
    April 10, 2013 at 5:17 pm

Chris Leroux knows today is “moving day.”
Soon he will be moving to Indy.

I wish I could say that was the statement of a person with superior intelligence———but even Neal Huntington figured it out!

  13. Now it’s time to expect nothing, but hope for the unexpected.

  14. It is 100% completely illegal for Leake to have all that rosin on his cap. Don’t know why he needs it anyway, I understand he has naturally sticky fingers.

  15. Good thing he didn’t drill him, huh ?

  16. The bats have awakened against Leake. AJ with some run support to work with for first time this season has he fans his fifth batter of the night.

    Great start Buccos!

  17. So B Phillips hits a dinger and salutes to the PBC dugout?

    Drill that SOB

    • AJ won’t do it. He’s the only starter they have and can’t afford any kind of suspension (not that it will matter). But as a leader you can’t put your team in that spot. Leave it to a reliever like Morris.

    • C’mon Biz, don’t you know the game’s played on a computer printout ?

  18. ROOT showing Frank Coonelly at the Bowtie Bar.

  19. I’m curious about Pirates Charities that they show over and over and over again and talk about again and again. Is that a play on words or is it a real charity program? The Pirates give away enough wins every year to be considered a charity.

I’m wondering if Nutting tries to get a tax break for all the losses the Pirates take.

  20. Someone needs to teach neverett how to count. First it was a few; then a couple then it was 5 seasons ago for the last triple play by the Pirates

  21. Jameson Taillon goes 6 innings allowing 2 runs with 10 K’s in start tonight for Altoona, encouraging. Just the thought of having two arms in Cole an Tallion that could be true aces…haven’t seen that in these parts since??? ’92 Drabek and somebody?

  22. Nothing says desperation like Fireworks in April and 40 degree nights.

  23. Burnett v Leake is a morality tale if I ever heard one. Great to see the Bucs rising to the occasion. I admire a man who reacts to adversity with calm determination and confidence in his skills, and a willingness to help teammates by the example of a positive attitude and a top flight work ethic. Go A.J. Burnett, in this team’s darkest hours you stood tall as a giant, and go Bucs.

On the other hand, you have your Pedros.

  24. Here is a shocker…. A-Rod paid to former employee of the clinic in florida to prevent documents tying him to the clinic.

I feel an Oprah interview in the near future

  25. Hey, Pedro got a hit! Vin Scully would be soooo proud…

  26. McPherson shellacked again tonight. 7 runs, 7 hits, 2 walks in 1.2 innings. Wonder if he’s hurt. He’s been abysmal in the last 2 weeks or so.

  27. Your #1 starter has only covered 17 innings in three starts. Just another reason this pitching staff is a shambles.

    • Your #1 draft pick is batting .091 and your shortstop acquired.expensively is hitting .115. Are you seriously suggesting that A.J. Burnett’s performance is the reason this team is coming up a loser?

      • No, not at all. It’s only 3 starts. But over the long haul, that’s not acceptable from your #1. Now if you want to tell me he’s miscast as a #1, that’s another discussion.

  28. Oh, here comes JHay so Leake can accidentally hit him.

  29. I really miss those 3 mph that have disappeared from Tony Watson’s fastball.

  30. So is there a clause in Watson’s contract for how many 3-2 counts he pitches out of?

  31. SHOOT !!!

    Lead gone……… :(

  32. Cutch, Jones, Martin up, let’s bring it

  33. Time is merciless, as the dead would tell you, could they speak. Time will not be kind to this team, but A.J., unlike Pedro, will gut it out and perform at a professional level. The team, God help it, will end up with the fans it deserves.

  34. Of course the strikeout comes one batter too late. Now it is up to our bats. Come on Cutch, upstage Phillips for a change. Getting tired of Phillips’ act. Maybe the next AB he has, someone needs to at least pitch a little more inside. You can’t throw him meatballs and expect not to get burned. Let’s go Offense!

  35. Mike Leake still has time to get to Macy’s.

  36. YAY CUTCH!!!

  37. Cutch!!!

  38. There you go Cutch, hope you winked at Phillips as you went by him!!

  39. Playing the role of Phil Regan tonight is Tony Watson.

  40. Time is merciless, as the dead would tell you, could they speak. Time will not be kind to this team, but A.J., unlike Pedro, will gut it out and perform at a professional level. The team, God help it, is ending up with the dead-ender fans it deserves.

  41. 2 Extra base hits in a row, keep it going!!

  42. Dusty’s look to take out the reliever was almost like: “Get the ___ outta here!”

  43. Oh, Barmy

  44. Would’ve been nice to get one more there…give the ball to Melancon and Grilli, get this one done

  45. Anyone see the side of Tabata neck? Looks like a tattoo of a hicky.

  46. Boom, 1-2-3…I know Hanny will turn it around in Boston, but I can’t imagine why Melancon didn’t show this side of himself last year. Maybe it was just a bad year? He was good enough in Houston to be worth Jed Lowrie, so he’s got the talent.

    • He had a really bad month and was actually shipped to AAA. If you have a bad month as a reliever its almost impossible to get your ERA back to being respectable again.

  47. Huh, I just found out via Twitter that today is National Grilled Cheese Day…

  48. So Carlos Quentin gets an 8 game ban for his role in the brawl with LA. Is that because Greinke was injured? Find it a bit much if it was just for charging the mound

    • I think it was solely because Greinke was injured. If Greinke hadn’t been injured, probably would’ve been less than 5 games per side. As it stands, I felt like he should sit until Greinke gets back. Seems only fair. Likewise, if a pitcher beans a player and the player gets seriously hurt, the pitcher should sit until the batter comes back.

      • I disagree. Greinke had just as much to do with the incident. Not hitting Quentin but his mouthing to Quentin after plunking him. Greinke chose to engage Quentin the way that he did; there is no way to predict that Greinke would be injured the way he was just as there is no way to predict if Quentin would be injured if Greinke plunked him. Greinke chose to engage and take on Quentin and at that point became part of the problem.

  49. Ump fell asleep. Votto was out on “ball 3.”

  50. Is Grilli pitching from the handbook of Hanahan

  51. STFD Phillips!!! Raise it!!

  52. Ahh I hope Phillips pointed to the Pirates dugout after striking out

  53. Hopefully this gives ol’ Dusty heartburn.

    Raise it!

  54. 4 DOWN, 78 TO GO!!
    The UNDER wins again.
CONGRATS to Jray3 on reclaiming the Clubhouse Lead!!

    • You’re the one that rocks, Playoffs :)

    • Yes, you are Rocket Man. Can’t imagine how much time you put in, always recording everyone’s wager and recalculating the standings. Whew!
Alright, so how’s this played? Everyone seems to be having so much fun, I want in. Imaginary $$? How much do we start off with, etc.?

      • Its pretty simple ghost. When Playoffs puts the daily line on the game after the Pirates put the lineup up, you can put up to 100 fake units onto that line and he will record it. Once the game is complete, he will then tabulate the standings and post them. Its free, its addictive, and it fun as everything that some Pirates games can’t be. Give it a try, you will never want it to end! Step up to the window tonight when the line goes up and put down some fake units.

Or else, the poodle will come after you ;)

      • Thanks guys! Plan on getting addicted tonight if I get back in time before the window closes. If not, tomorrow’s will be the date I’ll recite every time I stand up at a Gamblers Anonymous meeting.
