Looks like they are playing to have a strong bench tonight

  5. Bizrow says:

Well, I wonder what I’m going to lose 100 units on tonight ;-)

Its far too cold for an old fa*& like me to go to the game, there were snowflakes out as I went to the store around 1 today

  6. cmat0829 says:

Really like the lineup, though I know some live to criticize at any possible chance…. Maholm is on fire this year so good time to load up on RH bats and give the Pirates every advantage we can take….

Bucs are in a stretch of 20 straight games, Pedro/Snider need a break at some point so you pick your spots….

  7. JohninOshkosh says:

A lot of music lovers here on the blog.

Try to get to a local independent record store today for national “Record Store Day.”

I picked up some vinyl today myself.

  8. Brandie says:

Time for James McDonald to get out of his own rear and pitch. Clock is ticking as Liriano and Morton are on the prowl.

  9. JAL says:

vinyl making a comeback. Many artists releasing vinyl editions of new works.

  10. JohnH says:

Everything better today on the blog?

  11. kr70 says:

See where the Braves really screwed up. That pitcher Teheran is only 22. They started the clock early on him………..Oh wait, they want to win now.

  12. Let’s open The Window…What’ll ya have? What’ll ya have?
As always this is just for fun and entertainment purposes.

Max “wager” is 100 units on each separate line.
All “wagers” must be divisible by 5.
Play as many or a few as you’d like.
Please put your replies in this dialogue box, makes it much easier for me to “book-keep” that way.

    Tonight’s Line
Total RUNS ALLOWED by Paul Maholm in tonight’s game
***This is Total Runs Allowed NOT Total Earned Runs Allowed***
    Line is 2.5

Anyone can play, and everyone should try!

**The Window is on twitter, @TheBuccoWindow, feel free to follow**

Thanks to all for playing and good luck!!

  13. Brandie says:

    And we’re off!

  14. kr70 says:

Don’t know why the BMTIB is not using their talent in the minors. According to the owner (per Dejan) they have to win NOW. Tallion is looking real good for the Curve. If their jobs are really on the line you’d think they might be worried about the rotation. If Cole isn’t a better option then their 4 and 5 they deserved to get canned.

  15. Brandie says:

I will have 100 on the over Mr. playoffs. Thank you kind sir.

  16. KJX says:

    50 Over

  17. MadTurk says:

I didn’t hear a ready, set, go command from our leader.

  18. Frankie says:

50 on the over my man, my man………

  19. TJ says:

    100 on the over

  20. cmat0829 says:

100 units on the over…time for Pauly to regress to the mean. LETS GO BUCS

  21. JUCOFan says:

    50 on the under.

  22. TJ says:

I can appreciate the fact that Jack Edwards took to twitter to appologize for his comments directed at Matt Cooke. Its extremely ironic however that someone can make malicious comments whether it was intentional or not and simply appologize and its over with; give the guy a pass. Yet come Monday night every player on the Ottawa bench is going to be going for blood because of the idiotic fans wanting pay back on Matt Cooke.

  23. JohninOshkosh says:

    35/Under. Thank you, Squire.

  24. TJ says:

Yeah how is that working out for them so far this year? ERA over 7; yep thats certainly going to help them win.

  25. kr70 says:

100 on the over, Maholm couldn’t pitch at very well at PNC

  26. JaxBuc says:

Please sir (or madam), may I have 100 snowflakes on the OVER?

  27. TJ says:

Is that a typo…. Russell Martin at 3B? 16 total games at 3B; last time was 2011. Having Pedro on the bench after back to back HR games. But then again Martin has been hot the past couple games too.

  28. Bizrow says:

    Yes ;-)

  29. Bizrow says:

    + 1

It was either that, or dandruff, and I don’t have enough hair anymore to grow dandruff

  30. Bizrow says:

Ah, thanks Playoff, my streak is broken

    100 on the OVAH ;-)

  31. Bizrow says:

Anyone that has not logged in, location wise, to the Lunatic Nation, if you wouldn’t mind, please add a reply to this post with your current residence.

    We are 333 strong

Double bonus for military/police/firefighter heros, let us know if that is what you are doing for us ;-)

  32. Brandie says:

He is hunting Moose and Squirrel with Boris and Natasha.

  33. Bizrow says:

I’ve kept my records, one on the 60 Bucs, but I don’t have a record player that works anymore

    Flea market time, I guess

  34. DemonDachshund says:

    100 on the OVER please.

  35. Bizrow says:

Yeah, TJ, when I saw that tweet, I was thinking what???

Then the logic, well it was a tough week??

Here in Hopewell, PA, it was a dam tough week

And I’m sure everywhere else in the nation

Next time Jandy posts, I’ll ask her if she can send that fellow a wide 9 or two

  36. Bizrow says:

    Nah, he’s at Starbucks

Personally, I will not mention the folks that reside on Federal Street till they do the next stupid thing/comment.

Its been a while, so they are due

    I’ll wait

  37. Bizrow says:

And three or more hits from Cutch, please

  38. TJ says:

Yeah that “its been a tough week” line was lame. Leave it at the appology and move on. I can sympathize; I really can but that doesn’t mean you can lower your level of responsibility when your words are being heard and read by millions. Just a completely disrespectful and juvenile thing to say.

  39. TJ says:

I would say just for today we are 617 strong

  40. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window on another great day for baseball. Well I have to admit tonight’s line is a doozy and tantalizing at first look, but this is a line that the numbers spot a trend.

Paul Maholm has made three starts and comes in with a 0.00 ERA. Earlier this week Jake Westbrook came in with the same ERA and was roughed up for 4 runs in two innings, which did not count due to rain.

However, when you take a peek at last year Maholm made three stars versus the Pirates in Pittsburgh in May, July and October 1. In those three starts he gave up 2, 2, and 1 run.

It is tantalizing with the recent surge of Bucs offense to see easily 3+ runs, however the numbers side with the other direction.

Playing the numbers I will take 75 on the UNDER

    Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs.

  41. radio wave says:

At playoffs: please give me 50 on the over for tonight’s line. Thank you

  42. cherokee23 says:

    100 over

  43. Brandie says:

Thank you for posting the links. They make quite interesting reads.

  44. Bizrow says:

Some folks have a hard time admitting that they were an ass*(^%

Me? I’ve done that so many times, I am well versed on admitting it ;-)

  45. Drew71 says:

This is boring. We need some fisticuffs.

Somebody wake Chip. It’s past noon.

  46. Brandie says:

    Make that Army Strong.

  47. TJ says:

And to be honest I’m not sure what his comments had to do with the events of this week. The way he drew out that analogy it almost sounded as if it was prepared. I just listened to it for the first time of DK’s link. Listen to it; it was something thought out. Not something just off the cuff out of emotion. Give me a break.

  48. Brandie says:

Welcome, you seething cauldron of anarchy. :-)

  49. Bizrow says:

Just a thought, how bout 617 Strong gets entered in the Lunatic Nation HOF?

And I have no problem if we don’t

TJ what does 617 Strong stand for?, What does it mean?

  50. JohninOshkosh says:

In honor of your day, the only boat joke I know, long told by Wisconsin fishermen (and I suppose told by boaters everywhere):

Q: What are the two happiest days in a man’s life?
A: The day he buys his boat. The day he sells his boat.

  51. JMB says:

    100 on the UNDER.

  52. Bizrow says:

Sports is fun, even though we love the teams, in the overall scheme of things it means nothing to the ultimate counts in life.

Dejan said to let it go, so I will

If that guy has any character, I’m sure he feels worse about letting his mouth run than we have anger about his statement

    Just sayin

  53. JohninOshkosh says:

Good gravy, I totally forgot about the Bucco Blog. Thanks, Bobby. I’ll have to check that out!

  54. TJ says:

I agree; but I’m not sure he does. Look at his profile on twitter. He almost sounds like a off the hip type of guy. Say what you want and appologize later.

I love guys that are passionate about the teams they call for like Greg Brown but could you ever imagine something like that coming from Brown? Or Errey?

  55. TJ says:

That is correct the 617 is the Boston Area code; the patch that the Pens wore today

  56. Bizrow says:

Thanks for the insight, those folks were tremendously strong, the whole darn country was strong

  57. TJ says:

Always liked the statement; what does BOAT stand for… Bust Out Another Thousand.

  58. Bizrow says:

You could probably add a pool to that scenario

  59. Bizrow says:

So what do you think we will see from JMac tonight?

  60. TJ says:

Probably him slapping his glove and trotting to back up the catcher after he serves up a couple crooked numbers

  61. Bizrow says:

No, the statement that guy made was totally irresponsible and I would hope his supervision would handle it

Totally, well, trying to think of a word here, irresponsible, unprofessional

Best word is just plain stupid, oops, that is 3 words

I’ll bet he gets sh&& canned, but you never know

  62. Daquido_Bazzini says:

I’m afraid we may see the opposite of last night’s game with the Braves.

  63. Bizrow says:

    Ok, who is Chip?

    I need a scorecard, I think

  64. Bizrow says:

    3-5 Starters

    All question marks right now

  65. Bizrow says:

+1, but do not mention you know what :-)

    I’ve been checking him out

  66. Bizrow says:

Jets are losing, with 2:15 to go

  67. Playoffs, I would like to go with 100 on the over tonight. They have averaged 5 runs over the last two games, so hopefully they can get to Paulie and keep this win thing going. Thanks.

  68. Bizrow says:

Jets tie it up, but I am watching on ESPN game cast

  69. Pucknutz says:

Jets website says tie game at 17.56

  70. Lad9 says:

    100 on the over.

    Thank you Playoffs Go Bucs!

  71. Brandie says:

Will Liriano, Morton, and Cole be the answers?

  72. Bizrow says:

Goin to a shoot out, looks like

  73. pattonbb says:

When they score 6 or 7 runs a game for him, it isn’t hurting like it would most clubs.

  74. pattonbb says:

    100 on the UNDER.

  75. Bizrow says:

Well, the new reporter, I will soon remember his name had a post about the Cavalry coming over the hill

I posted, I hope its not F Troop

I’ve always had trouble remembering names

But so far, he seems very solid

  76. Bizrow says:

Travis Sawchuk, crap, I knew there was an earlier post on this thread about him

  77. Bizrow says:

Lost in the shoot out, but its not OVAH yet

  78. Pucknutz says:

Ya, they got a point – really like to see them knock out the Caps.

  79. Drew71 says:

    My favorite definition:

    Boat (bôt) n

A hole in the water into which one pours money.

(But not really. Not my boat.)

  80. Brandie says:

I am going to have to check him out. In the meantime, kudos to CH and the strong stance he took when JMac announced he was “tired”. CH basically said, and I am paraphrasing…there are others to take your place.

  81. Karen22 says:

    50 – OVER

  82. Bizrow says:

    Me too

  83. tcb says:

    75 over.

  84. tcb says:

    75 – over

  85. theplanisworking says:

Must not make Fearless Leader angry……. ;)

  86. cosmo says:

100 on the over kind sir.

  87. JAL says:

    You are welcome

  88. theplanisworking says:

Are we allowed to comment on the uncommentable subject?

Until then I will just keep whistling thru the tulips………. 8-)

  89. theplanisworking says:

    Meeeeeester Playoffs:

    This hippo says………

Pleeeeeeeeese put me down for 75 on the over.

    LETS. GO. BUCS!!!!

    (Still whistling…………….)

  90. theplanisworking says:

Still whistling thru the tulips……………. ;)

  91. OZ says:

100 on the over window, thanks as always

  92. Brandie says:

    Do the tulips take requests?

  93. cosmo says:

go jets. I think that would make a fun series.
And DK will get to go back to Winnipeg.

  94. JoeyBats says:

    Hoka Hey everyone,

Tuning in Altoona Curve game tonight….Francisco Liriano pitching his 2nd rehab assignment tonight.

    1st Inning:
    3 up …3 down….with 2K’s
    2nd Inning
    2 K’s….1 Walk…1 double…1HR…..and 3 runs
    …….he’s been in the 90-92mph range….so far….

    Altoona losing to H-burg….3-1…end of 2 innings/

  95. Thundercrack says:

I see someone has taught Travis that old crusty columnist trick of “I write about that tomorrow”………and provides a link

  96. theplanisworking says:

    Yes, Brandie, they do.

I am an accomplished whistler. Seriously.

I cannot, however carry a tune singing-wise, even if you gave me an entire set of luggage.

    Just sayin’ ;)

  97. Thundercrack says:

That could easily be JMac’s line tonight too.

    Hope not.

  98. Pucknutz says:

Was wondering the same thing Biz – I think it is the guy that was rooting for the Jets but never roots for any team. Not professional you know. :)

  99. Joey Mellons says:

100 on ex Bucco great paul maholm give up more than 2.5 total runs. The over.

  100. Bizrow says:

I heard something pretty cool on the CBS news, Boston had the fans sing the national anthem?

Why not do that everywhere? Many know the words, but some do not. We sing take me out to the ballpark with the dancing cookie

That would be such a cool thing, much better than what we do, put the words on the scoreboard, and let us pledge our allegiance to our great nation

    Just sayin

  101. Bizrow says:

You are at the game, right?

Check around your seats when you leave, make sure you don’t leave nuttin ;-)

Somewhere Florida residents are hitting an smiley button

  102. theplanisworking says:

+ how many people would sing it.

Beats the hel* out of Roseanne Barr mutilating it.

  103. Brandie says:

That is cool. You are quite the Renaissance man, Plan.

  104. Here! Here! Seconded!

  105. Bizrow says:

    Exactly, WE THE PEOPLE

A celebration and a respect of pretty much any darn thing

  106. tdb1977 says:

100 on the over please Playoffs

  107. Cutch goes off tonight since it is his bobblehead night!!

  108. theplanisworking says:

But if you see my post above, I CANNOT carry a tune. Small children and animals would be irreversibly harmed.

    But I can whistle.
So that may be my substitute.

  109. Arriba Wilver says:

    50 on the UNDER, please.

  110. Bizrow says:

No, the beauty is you singing

But, yes, whatever measure one chooses to do ;-)

  111. Bizrow says:

Me? I’m partial to any Burgh team and dachsys ;-)

    Starbucks, meh….

  112. JoeyBats says:

Liriano was on a pitch count tonight (65 pitches) ….and could NOT get out of the 3rd inning …. :-(
    2 2/3 IP …. 4 H….. 4 R ….4K ….3 BB…
    Altoona losing 4-1 to H-burg

  113. theplanisworking says:

I whistle because if I sang, small children and animals would be irreversibly harmed……………..

  114. tdb1977 says:

How is making the start tonight for the Pirates because it surely can’t be James McDonald?

  115. Excellent start for JMac. Way to go. Come on Bats, get it started!!

  116. pattonbb says:

Hello J-Mac. Nice to finally see you again.

  117. Bizrow says:

It would be very much a reminder of what a great place we are blessed to live in

A commitment from all that attend

    It will never happen

But we can think these thoughts when we take our caps off, put them next to our hearts, and we can still sing, crappy as our voices may be ;-)

  118. That is called “Taking one for the team.” Get on base any way you can.

  119. Keith says:

Okay, so I guess it’s Dr. Jekyll on the mound tonight. Good to know.

  120. They said it last night, but this dude Gattis does look like Wehner with a beard.

  121. Marte felt the footsteps of the wall on that dropped ball. Now JMAC is in trouble.

  122. JRay3 says:

Although that ball was crushed and it was not an easy play….Marte has to make that catch, he slowed up because of the wall and still had a bit of room.

    Already JMac in trouble.

  123. cherokee23 says:

4 pitch wallk with bases loaded to #8 hitter?

  124. Wheels and doors falling off now.

  125. MadTurk says:

Have you watched any political events or just plain politics lately?

  126. JRay3 says:

Just terrible JMac…four pitches no where close to the zone to walk in a run to light hitting #8 hitter.

    Two walks lead to undoing.

  127. Bizrow says:

he got out of it, but lots of pitches

  128. Brandie says:

Came back to strike out the last two…He is an enigma.

  129. They don’t score if Marte catches that ball. Not entirely on JMac that half of the inning – the walk and HBP aside. 1-0 bad guys – and they are very bad guys.

  130. Keith says:

    Oops. Spoke too soon.

  131. JRay3 says:

Paul Maholm now at 22.1 IP to start the season without giving up a run.

  132. JRay3 says:

Approaching 50 pitch mark in 3rd inning…third walk of night does not help.

  133. Walks and Ks are a good thing to rack up pitches on, but not innings. Hope he can make 7 innings, but may not be good at this rate.

  134. This team loves to make 1-0 seem like 10-0. Hopefully the second time through the order will go better.

  135. JRay3 says:

Maholm making quick work of Pirates with 9 up 9 down, not overpowering but is spotting and throwing his pitches exactly where he wants to. Going to need to find a mistake to capitalize and earn it, now need to keep game close.

  136. Thundercrack says:

Not at the game tonight. At the Ballet.

    Can you tell I’m married?

  137. JRay3 says:

Nice inning of work put in by JMac who has settled in a bit after rough second, time for the bats to wake up.

  138. Bizrow says:

Still a long way to go

  139. JRay3 says:

    Liriano final line for Altoona tonight: 2.2 IP 4 H 4 R 4 ER 3 BB 4 K.

Conteras K’s one in one clean inning of work.

Cutch with Bucs first hit of night with deep double to center. Let’s bring him home.

  140. JRay3 says:

Just noticed @Joeybats had Francisco info above.

Gaby swinging 3-0 and flys out, stranding Cutch at third, funny Maholm chirping the ump on way off field about not getting strike call on the SB pitch and laughing.

McDonald dodges one as Upton misses a four baser by inches.

  141. JohninOshkosh says:

Cleveland leads Houston 14-0 in bottom of 2d.

  142. pattonbb says:

    The historic comeback begins.

  143. Excellent bunt for Walker. Cash in NOW!!

  144. JRay3 says:

No problem Schaub can get that back….oh wait.

  145. JohninOshkosh says:

    First and second, no outs.

    Fort strikes out.

    Barmes up

  146. JohninOshkosh says:

..and there it is. Barmy strikes out.

  147. JRay3 says:

Two really bad AB’s with RISP by Fort and Barmes as they both go down on unhittable pitches way out of zone.

  148. Undiciplined ABs. Opportunity waisted unless James can help out.

  149. JohninOshkosh says:

…and Jimmy Mack strikes out as PM strikes out the side.

  150. In a game like this, when you have two on and no out, I know you want to go with the 3 run dinger, but when this guy has not been scored upon all season, get the runners into better scoring position and then see what happens. Martin is slow as molasses, so get him to third.

  151. JohninOshkosh says:

At least top of the order comes up in bottom half.

  152. JRay3 says:

Top of order, third crack at Maholm, how about getting JMac a couple of runs here.

  153. JohninOshkosh says:

Trib Total Media needs to put up a banner behind the plate with Dejan’s mug on it and the slogan “Yeah, We Can’t Pronounce His Name Either But Read Him In The Trib” on it.

  154. JohninOshkosh says:

    Cutch=Hit Machine.

    Whole new ballgame.

  155. JRay3 says:

CUTCH! Belts one off Clemente wall and ties game at one, shocked Maholm challenged him with base open and knowing Cutch already ripped him earlier.

  156. Cutch!!!! 1-1 now, get him home!

  157. JohninOshkosh says:

Missed a dinger over Clemente Wall by a few inches.

  158. theplanisworking says:

  159. JohninOshkosh says:

Into the lawn bushes in straight away center!!!!!!

  160. Gaby!!!! 3-1 and the OVER has it tonight. Way to get Cutch home.

  161. JRay3 says:

Have to give JMac credit for battling back after awful second, still is going to need better command, too many walks which prohibits going deep in games but great bounce back by him, he needed it.

  162. JRay3 says:

    Ok 3 works for me.

  163. Frankie says:

    Winner winner chicken dinner

  164. JRay3 says:

Gaby Gaby Doo, nice to see him square one up, would like to see him regain some of that stroke he showed two seasons ago.

  165. Iceman says:

Just turned the game on. Looks like I picked a good time. Saw all three runs off the guy who hadn’t give one up yet this year. Hard not to be excited about the way this team is showing some heart these last two games.

  166. tdb1977 says:

All this taking place with one out in the 6th. Great to see the bats heating up on this cold night. Let’s get a couple more this inning as Paul is definitely on the ropes right now.

  167. Arriba Wilver says:

Happy to lose the 50 tonight on the Under.

  168. cherokee23 says:

    last 2 weeks actually

  169. Jandy says:

    Chip is hibernating ;)

  170. JRay3 says:

Good call as Bucs are 8-4 in last 12 coming into tonight’s game against difficult schedule.

  171. They need to put some of that sticky stuff in their mitts tonight. first Marte can’t hold onto a ball in his mitt, and now Gaby – though Gaby’s was more difficult.

  172. cherokee23 says:

I dunno…..I think Gaby made a bad play on the ball, Marte going full speed to make a catch about a step from a wall…..both will say they should have made the catch though

  173. Jandy says:

    The Fort!

  174. Mickey with a line double. Add on!!

  175. JohninOshkosh says:

Get this run in, dang it!

  176. I do hear you on Gaby’s play, but it seemed that Marte was positioned pretty good on that gapper and seemed more like the wall got to him. Either way, what’s done is done.

  177. Frankie says:

Barnes has got to go. Anybody could be our shortstop.

  178. Barmes is thinking too much of that 800th hit, and swings at two horrible pitches with a dude that can’t get it over the plate.

  179. JRay3 says:

Well .091 hitting Barmes won’t do it as he continues swinging at pitches in other side of batters box.

  180. Frankie says:

If the Pirates were in the AL the pitcher would bat and the DH would be used for Barmes.

  181. JohninOshkosh says:

Barmy still looking for his first RBI.

  182. JohninOshkosh says:

I hate not getting those “insurance runs.”

  183. Bob Hasis says:

An over-managed half of an inning if I ever saw one

  184. They have to be the worst team at getting the guy in from third with NO out. Still 3-1 Bucs.

  185. cherokee23 says:

He did pull up a bit, didn’t he!

  186. The Gunner says:

Barmes looked pathetic going after those last 2 pitches. Frankie is right, anyone can be our SS.

  187. JohninOshkosh says:

Update from the Browns/Texans game in Houston:

Schaub with the touchdown pass but the Astros miss the PAT.

18-6. Cleveland leads Houston in the fourth.

  188. JRay3 says:

Melancon in for his 11th appearance already this season, I will say again no good reason he was used in game last night with large lead and low pitch count starter. Now tonight’s game dictates he be used back to back and he promptly gives up single.

  189. The Gunner says:

As you get older, your vision starts to deteriorate. Maybe that is the case with Barmes

  190. Lad9 says:

Out of town line for you to consider and be glad it isn’t ours:

Astros starter Philip Humber: 1/3IP, 8H, 8ER, 1BB, 1 HR in just 30 pitches. That works out to an ERA of 216.00 for this evenings work for Mr. Humber. Remember he threw a perfect game last year. Not so much now. Somewhere, Chris Leroux is smiling…….

  191. 21sthebest says:

Actually the team average in that situation before tonight was .600.

  192. May just seem that way when I watch the games. I may also be thinking of the past couple years, though.

  193. What they couldn’t just send the full Pirates half of the 50/50 to Boston victims? They really needed that 8,000+?

  194. What would that have been if he didn’t record any outs and gave up the same amount? Crazy stat.

  195. Not a bad night for Cutch on his bobblehead night, 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a run scored.

  196. cherokee23 says:

I was thinking it was pretty good….looking for an insurance run….Presley faster than Mckenry…..Martin behind plate….Alvarez bats in pitchers spot and goes to third, better defensively than Martin

  197. Yes, seriously JAL, the links you post everyday are really helpful.
Can’t thank you enough for posting them every day.
    You rock man!!!

  198. cherokee23 says:

I think the 8,000 + was their cut of the 50-50

  199. cherokee23 says:

the other 8,000 went to the fan

  200. Okay, may have missed that part of the conversation. My MLBTV online came back from commercial just after the start of that discussion. That for the clarification.

  201. JRay3 says:

Behind a three run sixth inning led by a Gaby Sanchez two run HR the Bucs come from behind to take the third game of the four game set over the Braves 3-1 and there was noooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Buccos are above .500 for the first time this season at 10-9 and are now 9-4 in their last 13 . The Pirates will look for the series win tomorrow afternoon when Jonathan Sanchez takes the mound for the Pirates.

    Lets Go Bucs.

  202. tdb1977 says:

You can raise the Jolly Roger! Bucs take game 3 against the Braves!!!! 3-1. Don’t look now, but the Bucs are a game back of first place and are above .500!

  203. Grill-master! Raise it!! Let’s go for the series win tomorrow.

  204. cherokee23 says:

Very nice ballgame tonite…Kudos to J-Mac!

  205. Patrick(RI) says:

Grilli ‘s a hoot. But we’ll have to get a bigger catcher to survive the celebrations!

  206. tdb1977 says:

What a home stand…. Sweep of the Reds, split with the Cardinals, and take two out of the first three from the Braves. Amazing home stands. Let’s take the series tomorrow.

  207. Brandie says:

Good win for J-Mac and the Crew.

  208. Nice to see JMac have a bounce back game and get the victory with the 3 runs the offense put up at the right time. Hope this is momentum for him.

  209. cherokee23 says:

Fun to watch! I love the guy

  210. JRay3 says:

Oops stat error….Bucs above .500 for first time this season at 9-8 and are 8-3 in last 11 and 6-2 on the current home stand.

  211. JRay3 says:

Great home stand is right and they have done so against NL East leader and top two teams of NL Central….will either finish the stand at 7-2 or 6-3, very successful.

  212. TJ says:

Lets not forget we were up 4-2 in the game that got postponed with the Cards. Never know how that would ended up but we got off to a hot start against a good pitcher. Always nice to at least split a series against a team that came in with 2 losses all year.

  213. I’ll take the 3 out of 4. Then they can leave with 5 losses.

  214. Sisyphus says:

Yeah, he’s really helping them pile up the wins with that 7.31 ERA.

  215. Sisyphus says:

Jones has a lifetime OPS of .590 against left handers in over 500 plate appearances. So yes, by all means, if you think that the Pirates need to have another Clint Barmes in the lineup, you should definitely play Jones against lefties.

Imagine it’s the bottom of the ninth, tie game, lefty on the mound, and the Bucs pitcher is due to lead off the inning. Only Garrett Jones and either John McDonald or Clint Barmes are left on the bench. If you want to win you send up McDonald or Barmes to pinch hit, BECAUSE GARRETT JONES IS A WORSE HITTER AGAINST LEFTIES THAT EITHER OF TWO GLOVE ONLY SHORTSTOPS.

Garrett Jones should only start against lefthanders if the rest of the team couldn’t get to the ballpark in time for the game.

    Sorry about the caps.

  216. Sisyphus says:

Another typical Daq prediction, in that it misses badly.

  217. Daquido_Bazzini says:

That’s a Pirate team with some potential. If they had an owner that would spend a few more dollars and real GM they could make the playoffs.
The ball remains in Nutting’s court…..

  218. Bizrow says:

    Lets see what happens

  219. Thundercrack says:

Is it too early for Riverhound Front Office jokes?

  220. Ghost says:

“If they had an owner…and a real GM.” I love it! With, eh hmm, ‘those guys’ running the team, we’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s kinda like when my dad used to smack us kids and then say, “That’s for when you do something I don’t know about.”

  221. Ghost says:

As in “the Buccos are actually looking pretty good, so can we do Riverhound front office jokes instead?” Or, “let’s do Riverhound FO jokes… just because!” :)

  222. theplanisworking says:

    Uh Oh, Daq.
    You mentioned an unmentionable topic.
    I amma runnin’ and hidin’………………..

  223. theplanisworking says:

Do the Riverhounds have a Front Office?

Have they lost for 20 consecutive years?

  224. The OVER wins for tonight’s line.

  225. Does that count the 100 on the UNDER for Line #3 on Friday?

  226. Bob Hasis says:

Well, I’ll say this; we didn’t get an insurance run, we used a pinch-runner who could have been a needed pinch-hitter later “IF”, we eliminated a catcher from the game, and your assessment of “better defensively” flies in the face of conventional opinion in this blog. And as a pinch-hitter PA represents a great possibility of a K which gets you nothing.
And did we really need a pinch – runner at that point?
And our new Mr. Wonderful hits into a DP.

That’s a lot of over-thinking and maneuvering for 0 runs.
