Sunday column: Iginla, Morrow and the chance of a lifetime

By Dejan Kovacevic | Trib Total Media

The Sunday column sizes up Jarome Iginla, Brenden Morrow and the chance of a lifetime.

I honestly hadn’t realized how closely their situations parallel until beginning to ask questions for this, but it’s amazing. And from there, it became that much more fun to put together.

Hope you enjoy it.

I’ll be at the ballpark today.

Love the article. You know, what really occurs to me reading it, is the amount of time Sid had carried the Pens on his back this year. Think about it. Sid and his line was pretty much the engine of the Pens wins up till Sid was injured. Since Sid has been out of the lineup, Iggy, Morrow, and Jussi have been workhorses, getting the offense moving. Think about it.

The fact that the Pens have kept winning has been mentioned as knock against Sid’s bid for MVP. But without Shero buying a Iggy, Morrow and Jussi, no way the Pens win many of the games they have since Sid was injured. I hope Shero is able to work deals to keep these three, and Duper. Those four players are maybe more critical than Geno. What a team!

    DK: Thanks, Deb.

Awesome article! I really enjoyed it!

    DK,

Thanks for the awesome read. Talk about passion, wow!

    Hi Fellow Lunatics!

Happy Sunday to everyone. Missed the game in Beantown since we are out with the kiddos, and the DVR was all goofed up because of the time change. Great to read though that the “new guys” continued to help with key goals!

The column was awesome! Really enjoyed the additional insight to what it has been like for Iggy and Morrow since the trade and their incredible desire to win the Cup. Like I mentioned on a previous thread, this years team feels so very different than the previous couple of years versions, especially how it is playing now moving into the playoffs. Much more grit, sandpaper, tenacity, that was just kinda missing.

Hmm, Martin back before Malkin and Sid and Neal? Something that I am missing? I can understand Neal being slow due to the concussion, and maybe Malkin being wonky with his shoulder, but what’s up with Sid? Am I getting a little too concerned? Last week coming up and there truly isn’t any seeding to play for, but would like to see those guys get some ice time together before the playoffs start.

What a fantastic TEAM that GM Ray Shero & Co. have put together – I’m really looking forward to the playoffs and what I hope (and expect) to be a long, long run.

    Let’s go PENS!

    Have a great Sunday all.

    Randy in RVA.

    DK: Thanks, Randy.

  6. Vette60 says:

    Hi Biz.

See you have RVA (Richmond, VA) listed, but technically, I am in Glen Allen, VA. So please add to your Lunatic Listing!

    Thanks.

  7. Stuart says:

The Pens are a TEAM. That comes over big time in DK’s feature. It must be really hard on the “downers” to follow this team. Just think how long it’s been since we’ve seen “Disco” Dan, or “Paulina” Martin, or any other perjoritive name applied to a Penguin! Odds are we won’t be seeing any Isabelle Iginlas, or Melissa Morrows either.

    What a TEAM!

    Stuart

  8. kr70 says:

When your 8 year old says “let him have his chance at the cup” that gave me goose bumps. …….. we get used to your writing, thanks

  9. TJ says:

DK great article. Perhaps the one thing that can get Iginla and Morrow the cup they so desire is the fact that they didn’t come here to be the captain or the leadership. They can simply play hockey. And man oh man has every pick up Shero has made looked good so far.

I might add Carolina to the list of teams that might not be answering phone calls from Shero any time soon. Joikken??? Myron might give him a double Joi!

  10. TJ says:

    FIRE BYLSMA!

Lets not mess with the system here; seems to have been working for most of the year.

  11. Karen22 says:

WONDERFUL article! I’ve embraced these two stars from the get-go, but you’ve made me love them. I pray their dream comes true!

    DK: Thanks, Karen.

  12. Lad9 says:

Awesome column DK! Echo on kr70 on how we get used to your writing. We are a very fortunate group of lunatics.

    DK: Thanks.

  13. Iceman says:

Really enjoyed the article this morning. Have loved watching these two on the ice and they just seem like genuine good guys. Really cool thought thinking about how both are now just able to play since they no longer have to C on their jersey. They can just go out and do their business. I really hope the Pens win this year for those guys. They deserve it.

    DK: Thanks, Ice.

  14. Bobbo says:

    One of your best, DK.

    DK: Thank you.

  15. SJB says:

This just in: Carolina interested in trading Jordan Staal back to the Pens for Jokinen. ;)

Also; Is it too late to dig up all the “We don’t need Iginla, it would ruin chemistry” posts, or the “The Pens should stand pat” ones?
