  2. Where did Inge come from? I know, Indy, but who went down?

  3. Inge BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Why would any team have Inge, McDonald and Barmes all on their team? Are they not just worse versions of each other. Maybe if Barmes had Inge’s power we would be on to something.

That being said I like Barmes because of what he brings overall but there is no reason to have 2 more of him sitting on the bench especially if Martin can play 3rd and the Fort continues to play well.

  4. Wait a minute!!!!! You mean to tell me I can use one of those contraptions pictured above to hear the game and play out the pictures in my head????? What a novel idea! :D

  5. Do not get the love affair with Brandon Inge at all, especially if it is not coming at the expense of McDonald. Josh Harrison is hitting .281 at Indy, Presley was hitting .357 and Inge a robust .150 in 18 games.

Too many like players on the bench, this better be a short trial period.

    • Here’s my take on it:
They don’t want McDonald to play third because then there is no one on the bench who can play SS.

They are not thrilled with JHay anymore.
Inge can play a lot of positions. And they really wish he had hit more in the minors.

Mercer is not coming up here to sit. (he won’t be here until they officially pull the plug on Barmes.)

DK: All of that sounds reasonable, right up to the point where it’s assumed Jordy Mercer is an everyday major-league shortstop. Haven’t seen that.

      • So, in essence, Inge is the defensive backup at 2nd and 3rd. Which apparently McDonald can’t cover because Hurdle believes it is illegal to shift him to shortstop in the off chance that Barmes leaves the game.

        Makes sense.

(Note that I understand this isn’t necessarily what you would do, but what you believe is Hurdle’s logic)

      • Which I believe NH alluded to that about Merer on his radio show this past Sunday.

        (weren’t you listening!?)

But he also babbled on about how they usually let Chase play shortstop throughout the minors and Jordy is the one that they’ve moved to other positions.

  6. I’m at least going to wait for Brandon Inge to disappoint me before I start the bashing.
I’m sure it won’t take long.
But maybe…just maybe he’ll have a couple Drew Sutton moments before the inevitable happens.

  7. A lot has been written about the Pirates difficult early schedule, but adding to that has been a tough draw on opoosing pitching as well.

Pirates once again get the other teams top three starters, this time in the form of Hamels, Halladay, and Lee.

Smardija, Jackson, Grienke, Kershaw, Ryu, Cahill, Mcarthy, Cueto, Latos, Hudson, Maholm, Medlen in the teams first 19 games. Yikes.

  8. Another good line, Playoffs. The Pirates are averaging a little over 8 strikeouts per game. But the really high numbers were in the early games. Lately they have been 7 or under, usually. Until last night, when they had 11. And the lower rates kind of coincide with Pedro’s improvement. I’m worried about Inge, but they’ve been pretty successful against Hamels overall, so I’m going with

    100 on the UNDER.

  9. As to the NOTV bashing, yes no doubt the Pirates fumbled the ball on TV rights negotiations… but why do the Phillies not telecast the game so us out-of-towners can access via ExtraInnings?

    • I believe it is only available on local Philly TV due to the Bruins vs. Flyers game being broadcast on the Philly cable network.

Normally the Extra Innings will not show a non-cable game feed.

Sucks, but April baseball will never out-draw April hockey as far as TV ratings are concerned in Pitt or Philly.

    • I just got home. Yeah I see no game on extra innings. Remember extra innings channels are shares with hockey. I’m watching the game on MLBTV. I’m lucky to be in NY to see the game via the internet.

I will say we’re all spoiled with all the TV games. Major League Baseball should do something similar to the NFL when it comes to home games. The ballpark should be 50% tickets sold prior to game day for home teams to broadcast. All road team should broadcast all of their road games.

  10. Prediction:

Inge either 1) Goes yard tonight or 2) One of his foul balls hits Hamels’ reality TV wife in the head.

  11. So will the game be broadcast via MLB tv, via the Phillies ,local network.

It appears the game is being broadcast , in the Philadelphia market by the network TCN.

Most of their games are broadcast via Comcast sports Philadelphia. I am thinking this TCN is not affiliated with Comcast, and is a local philly channel.

Oddly enough, i guess they aren’t the only baseball team bumped by the Hockey team in town.
I am just wondering with MLB TV, if that game will still be shown?.

  12. How many times is this team going to watch a called third strike when you have runners in scoring position?

  13. Correia had another nice outing today. 7 ip, 2 er, 5 k’s. Glad he’s throwing the ball good for the Twins.

  14. Marte may be too fast for his own good at times.

  15. Looks like Locke needs to cut down on his walks…..I’d say he gets through 4, then explodes!!!!

  16. Jose Tabata is pathetic. I’m not usually one of those people that rips him, but enough is enough. I could care less about how much better he looks this year. We might be the only team bad enough to give that goof ab’s. At this point I’ll take anyone BUT Tabata in RF.

  17. I found Lastings Milledge, he’s playing goaltender for the Buffaslugs right now

Also, is it possible that Searage has gone to a five-inning limit for his pitchers? Cause it’s looking like Locke’s not gonna make it past that

  18. Anyone notice Cole Hamels’ ERA? You think Philly fans are in an up roar about it?

    he’s 0-2 with an ERA over 5

  19. Inge sucks…LOL

  20. Ha Ha, “that Brandon Inge guy is terrible!!”

    RBI double…nice

  21. That’s for all you Brandon Inge haters out there.

  22. Locke is laying down the law to that other city’s batters through 3, looking like a credible #5 starter. Pitch count through 3 a bit high at 56. Let’s see how he does on his 2nd pass through that order.

    • All of our starting pitchers have high pitch counts with the exception of Wandy. They need to start trusting their stuff and pitching to contact. If the pitch is located and has late movement you want them to hit it.

  23. Inge yeahhhhhhhhh!!!

I knew this guy should have been up all along. You know what they say. You can never have too many light hitting utility type players on your team.

  24. Anyone but Tabata.

  25. Marte continues to amaze. Two all star outfielders on one team often leads to happy endings.

  26. I like Gabby. Would’ve loved the trade for him last year if it was in the offseason, not at the deadline.

  27. I stand corrected, looks like Locke slowed down a hair on the pitch count. 80 thru 5 innings. I’d be happy if he finished the 6th and the Bucs could give him a few runs to work with.

  28. Locke is going against one of the best and most obnoxious pitchers in MLB

  29. Locke looking good for a fifth starter. Wandy looking good at 2. AJ still looking like an ace 80% of the time. JMac would be an easy #3 on almost any team. Sanchez? Not great. Bottom line – if this team is above .500, the starting pitching has been effective. It’s the knockout bullpen, however, that has been the final blow to opposing teams, allowing the offense to eke out wins.

  30. Locke is dealing now. Nice to see. Get him and the bullpen more runs now to make it less stressful.

  31. Wow just checking in here on road, turn on the game cast and see Locke has made it through six shutout innings and Brandon Inge has the Bucs lone RBI. Somebody pinch me.

Now let’s add a few more runs boys.

  32. I’m sorry, but if I don’t see it with my own eyes on TV then I don’t think Locke is pitching this well.

    #can’ttrustradio

    :-)

  33. I see that Dylan Bundy is going to see Dr. Andrews

    • That’s sad news, TC. He had an unreal approach to conditioning and nutrition (never drank a soda, etc). Was looking forward to his career.

But he is a lesson on putting all your hopes into “can’t miss prospects.” Health is always the unknown variable.

  34. This Pirates team keeps surprising jaded fans.

    • I know OM, I hardly recognize you the past two nights. :-)

Of course it probably helps that Pedro is sitting tonight.

  35. That makes six straight appearances by Tony Watson where he has not allowed a run covering 5.1 innings allowing just two hits and striking out four and lowering his ERA from 5.79 to 2.70 during this stretch.

Certainly has regained his form and is shoring up back end of pen.

  36. Gaby!! 2-0 Bucs with that high drive to right.

  37. Gaby Gaby Doo…Sanchez strikes again with solo HR and Bucs lead 2-0….nice!

  38. Pretty good game going on, on that old fashioned radio thingee, fellow Rubes.

    • I have listened to this game:
      -on my phone
      - with a regular battery powered radio
      - and not on my computer via the internets.

      Fire Bylsma!!!

  39. Who would have thought after first few games of season that Russell Martin and Cutch would have similar batting averages at this point?

Martin .241, Cutch .243….now for Cutch to get going.

  40. Big run. I feel much better about a two run lead. With our back end of the bullpen I like our chances of winning this one.

  41. Hamels at 118 pitches, that is a pitch count the Pirates and CH do not allow there starters to get near.

Sometimes you have to take the reigns off of your top guys.

  42. Pens tie it at 2, but DK will likely not get his wish of Going to Winnipeg for the playoffs, they sucked again against the freakin’ Caps.

  43. WOOOOO Raise it!

  44. Raise it once again, baby!! Nice effort by Locke tonight and the bullpen hangs on to shutout the Phills 2-0. Get it going again tomorrow, boys.

  45. Jeff Locke has beaten Johnny Cueto & Cole Hamels. Go figure.

  46. With only 6 K’s tonight many win on the UNDER for the Window.

  47. Behind six shutout innings turned in by Jeff Locke who pick up his second win on the year, a Gaby Sanchez homer and Jason Grilli’s 8th save in as many tries the Bucs blank the Phils 2-0 to even the four game set and there was nooooooooo doubt about it,

The Bucs will turn to Wandy Rodriguez tomorrow night in the third game of the series.

    Let Go Bucs!

  48. Nice win. Raise it!

  49. Gamecast had revere struck out on 3 pitches. If that thing is right, the ump tonight had vision problems. Perhaps a reason Locke threw so many pitches?

  50. Would not have expected the Pirates to lose yesterday with the pitching match up advantage, much like really did not think the Bucs would win today.

    Funny game this baseball.

  51. …..from Western Union…..

this just in stop… Pirates 2 Phillies 0 stop… Winning Pitcher Locke stop…tomorrow game on television stop…

  52. I think they should play the entire playoffs outdoors. It should be cold enough for one round.

  53. Just pulled in. Rifled through the comments and saw quite a lot of grief directed Brandon Inge’s, and some at Jeff Locke too. We lunatics sure are a neurotic bunch. Good thing Clint Hurdle is the skipper. He is more a Chuck Tanner type. We here in the Asylum? Collectively, we are Woody Allen.

  54. So far this season has been the year of the UNDER.
And with that said, the UNDER wins yet again.

Thanks to all who played tonight.
