  1. theplanisworking says:

    LEST GO BUCS !!! 8-)

  2. Bizrow says:

    + 1

Did you ask yesterday if we could put some location on the Lunatic Nation list?

    What state?

  3. theplanisworking says:

    Oh, lol.
I was asking about Hippos Pond as a location………………. being I am a hippo, and hippos live in ponds……..

Just a little hippo humor there……….

  4. Bizrow says:

You would think today the cards are a bit more in our favor pitching wise, but thats why they play the games

  5. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  6. theplanisworking says:

    Wandy pitching………. plus.
    Bucs above .500………plus.

    Bucs on road………….minus.
    Halladay pitching well….minus.

    Hopefully we pull one out.

  7. Bizrow says:

    Hmm, Strasburg drops to 1-4

    Go figure

  8. Bizrow says:

I thought Halliday was struggling a bit?

  9. NMR says:

Halladay had his first good outing of the year last start against the Cards (Miami doesn’t count) holding them to just two hits over 7 innings.

He’s already given up five homeruns in just 22 IP on the year.

This is a lineup Wandy should be able to cruise through.

  10. SeanAY says:

Not very often you have the better end of a pitching match-up with Roy Halladay…but Wandy has been electric.

There’s nothing I love more than a win over a team from Philadelphia. Even beating Central Michigan. And I REALLY love to beat those guys. But as I’m sure is the case with most here, beating Philly just sparks something in me.

Also, I finally took the five minutes to create my Gravatar. Hope it works out.

  11. NMR says:

3.16 ERA, 4/5 quality starts, only once given up more than three runs or went less than six innings.

And he has one less win than Jeff Locke.

This is why people say Wins are a meaningless stat for pitchers to track.

  12. theplanisworking says:

Halladay struggled the first 2 games, but he seems to do that every year.

I think a deciding factor is the fact the Pirates are on the road tonight…………..and they dont do too well on the road.

    But anything is possible.
Is tonight McDonalds first start at SS?

  13. NMR says:

Picture of you on the keys in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden?

  14. Iceman says:

Just read the whole Pens – Bucs TV argument from yesterday. Wow there was some priceless stuff in there. I’m not trying to rehash anything. Just wanted to say:

“Go Bucs!” from your friendly, neighborhood, diehard Penguins fan.

On a side note, has there been any word regarding Wandy’s injury the other day? Any nagging soreness or is he all well and good?

  15. Iceman says:

Says something about the Nats bats. Strasburg’s stuff is wicked.

  16. theplanisworking says:

I zoomed in on your avatar, and I couldnt make out who that is?

Looks like David Byrne of the Talking Heads………

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

Wins may be overstated, they may be overweighted, but they’re never “meaningless.” That’s overstated. Unless they are all robots that only stats matter. There’s a human element, which I believe factors into a Win/Loss record.

  18. NMR says:

You know what, thats completely fair.

I can imagine someone like you and Biz hearing “meaningless” evokes the same reaction I have when I hear wins used to justify anything of significance.

Both sides overstate their point, you’re right.

  19. NMR says:

David Byrne reference gets a +1 any day of the week.

  20. SeanAY says:

If only….that would be the one and only Mr. Rob Barraco.

  21. SeanAY says:

“Hi. I’ve got a tape I want to play.”

  22. JAL says:

He didn’t struggle last year–shut out Pirates on 2 hits opening day

  23. So much work today…not enough time to get it done.

    Let’s open the window!!

How many HITS will John McDonald have in tonight’s game?
    ZERO (Even Odds)
    ONE (Even Odds)
    TWO or MORE (Double Odds)

    Max ‘wager’ is 100 units.
Sorry for the late posting and shortness of it.
Super busy day at work today.

    Good Luck and GO BUCS!!

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

    I hope it’s not an 8-Track. :-)

  25. JAL says:

Wandy pitched a gem last time out, first game after the injury

  26. Milo Hamilton says:

I was reading about the Pirates “Take The Fort To School” program (sponsored by the Trib). You can enter to have Michael McKenry visit your kid’s school. What a cool idea. I was thinking maybe we could expand it with maybe “Take Clint Barmes To School & Leave Him There”.

You can never have too much of a good thing.

  27. JMB says:

    100 on ZERO.

  28. theplanisworking says:

Would we have to pay the location to keep him there?

  29. TK says:

    100 on TWO or MORE

  30. theplanisworking says:

Talking Heads, one of the most underrated bands of all-time……

  31. Ghost says:

Fifty on ONE HIT, por favor, señor.
Thanks in advance, gotta run to a baseball game myself!

  32. JohninOshkosh says:

    Once there were parking lots
    Now it’s a peaceful oasis
you got it, you got it

    This was a Pizza Hut
Now it’s all covered with daisies
you got it, you got it

    I miss the honky tonks,
    Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens
you got it, you got it

  33. KJX says:

    100 on one

  34. cosmo says:

    50 on 1 hit please.

  35. Frankie says:

Give me 50 on zero…….Thank You

  36. JohninOshkosh says:

Don’t look now but look who has strung 9 wins in a row together.

I did not think that ballclub, as currently construed, was capable of such a streak. I was wrong.

And the Cubs have one less win than the Astros.

  37. radio wave says:

At playoffs: please give me 50 for the line for one hit. Thank you

  38. stickyweb says:

    100 on ZERO please. Thanks.

  39. NMR says:

I’d be impressed if the last five weren’t against the Cubs and Padres.

  40. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  41. NMR says:

Who am I kidding, I couldn’t force myself into typing anything nice about the Brewers.

  42. theplanisworking says:

Who, or what came to Pittsburgh?

  43. Bizrow says:

What does that have to do with the price of rice in China?

  44. Bizrow says:

As I need to catch a break,

    100 on two.

I’m counting that he gets 20% of his hits for the season in this game ;-)

  45. Bizrow says:

That post is off limits, I mean, hasn’t SOMEONE posted a negative Barmes-stick post in the past??? ;-)

    Same old, same old ;-) :_) :-)

  46. JohninOshkosh says:

  47. JAL says:

    no idea–

  48. Jim S. says:

And they have done it all w/o Hart & ARam. I think the Brewers are a pretty decent team. I don’t see holes in their lineup, especially when they get healthy. They can really hit. I have a feeling they are pretty bad in the field, though. You can’t see that in the box scores. That may be the Bucs greatest strength, and what keeps us relevant in what may become a really tough division before all is said and done.

  49. JohninOshkosh says:

At least the front office knows their phones work.

  50. cherokee23 says:

    100 on 1

  51. JHadar says:

    How much?

It might be worth it. . .

  52. theplanisworking says:

for someone to post that, Barmes has to have a stick.
    Just sayin’

  53. JAL says:

trade has PTBNL and or cash written all over it

  54. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  55. tdb1977 says:

    100 for 1 hit please.

  56. Joey Mellons says:

Any south jersey or eastern PA lunatics going to Thursday buccos/Phil’s game at citizen bank park? I will be there and would love to say hello and talk about the buccos with the sun shining on our face and a frosty cold one in our hands.

  57. Lad9 says:

I wil go 100 on zero hits for Old McDonald.

    Thanks Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  58. MadTurk says:

If he has a stick maybe he is trying out for hockey?

  59. Brandie says:

Fear the Headband. Going to Darkstar Jubilee. They are also playing A Bear’ s Picnic in August.

  60. Bizrow says:

Probably get as many goals as hits

  61. Bizrow says:

We don’t have a lot of lunatics logged in from that area.

Just post a reply where you are currently residing

  62. Joey Mellons says:

I live in hammonton nj. About 25 from Philly.

  63. theplanisworking says:

I live near Lebanon Pa. about 1 and 1/2 hours from Philly.
Not going to the game…………. hate Philly traffic.

    And sports teams.

  64. Bizrow says:

    Thanks, that makes 335 locations

  65. theplanisworking says:

    You already have me, Biz.

    But not Hippos Pond. ;)

  66. Playoffs, I would like to say one hit for Mr. McDonald for 100. Thanks.

  67. Brandie says:

    Dear Blog Land,

Go BUCCOS! Now that I got that out of the way, I just wanted to say I did the best I could on my interview. I will learn toward the end of next week if I earned a second interview. In the meantime, I do have another interview scheduled for May 1st for a different position and that looks promising. To those who have sent good vibes my way, I cannot express enough my sincere gratitude. I will now go back to saying my “Hail Jandy’s” to continue to push The Buccos toward relevance.

  68. Brandie says:

    Dear Mr. Playoffs,

I would like 50 Republic Credits on 1 please. Thank you.

  69. Jim S. says:

Make a nuisance of yourself when Wandy shuts down that pathetic lineup, Joey M!

  70. theplanisworking says:

Say Hail Hippos for continued good vibes interview-wise.

Continue to knock them dead, kid!

  71. Brandie says:

    The tulips appreciate it.

  72. cmat0829 says:

lets go 50 units on ZERO.

  73. theplanisworking says:

    Any song requests tonight?

  74. Brandie says:

No wonder why I like you. That is one of my all time favorite sayings I picked up from my mom.

  75. Bizrow says:

    We do now ;-)

  76. Joey Mellons says:

    15 units on zero hits.

  77. Bizrow says:

All you can do is the best you can do

It’ll work out for the best

  78. Brandie says:

For the job I currently have…Take This Job And Shove It!

  79. Jason81 says:

    100 on ZERO

  80. Brandie says:

That’s a sports metaphor as well. Wandy will do the best he can and give the team a quality start. I just wish The Buccos hadn’t gained such a reputation of taking on all reclamation projects. Just takes the recycling thing a little too far. Thanks for the support.

  81. Joey Mellons says:

At plan. Hear ya, I HATE all Philly team with a passion (especially the flyers) except for the Phils. I kinda-of adopted them as my “other” team. I root for them to win as long as its not the buccos they are playing against. The buccos haven’t given me much to cheer about in the past 20 years.

  82. theplanisworking says:

Only Philly team I ever ike was the Sixers, due to the one and only Dr. J.

  83. theplanisworking says:

    Ah, Johnny Paycheck’s classic.

Good choice, I feel the same way about my job. :(

  84. Chico says:

I’ll go 50 on 0 hits for McDonald.

  85. theplanisworking says:

Caution, this roster is made up of 64% recycled content. ;)

  86. Brandie says:

    Recycled from what?

  87. theplanisworking says:

    This is a family-friendly blog. 8-)

  88. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the Window…seems like a good day for Wandy to pick up his third win of the season.

Like you busy work day so going off the cuff.

    50 on ONE hit.

Thanks Playoffs, and Lets Go Bucs

  89. Brandie says:

See, I wasn’t going in that direction. I was thinking pixie dust and rainbows.

  90. theplanisworking says:

Senor Playoffs, this is a difficult line tonight at the Window.

McDonald isnt very good, hasnt done well this year, but has a small rate of success against Halladay.

I am going to hesitantly going to place 50 tulips on ZERO hits tonight.

  91. theplanisworking says:

    You forgot the Unicorn………. ;)

  92. Bizrow says:

    A hopefully quick true story.

1976, we have a son, we’re living with my parents, I’m getting desperate, graduated from Slippery Rock in May 75 in Environmental Sciences. So I go to the Army Recruiting center in Carnegie, I was already in the Reserves, I ask, do you have any Environmental positions? They say, well, we do have spots where people test drinking water in the field. I say how do they do that? The guy is kidding, but he says well you drink it first…

So I’m depressed a bit, then I see a PA Employment Center close by, I go in and start looking at the microfish files. There is a job in Shippingport. Its basically QC, you wash dirt and scratch rocks, literally. I had a bit of experience in that, believe it or not. A week later, I get a call, a week later I’m working. 37 years later, I’m getting ready to retire.

Things will work out, they did for me and have done so for many others.

Just be yourself, as you are here, and when you get that chance make the most of it ;-)

  93. pattonbb says:

0 hits for 100 make believe units.

    Thanks, Playoffs.

  94. Milo Hamilton says:

    Well that was pathetic.

  95. JRay3 says:

Marte leads off with a walk, steals two bases but Snider, Cutch, and Jones all go down looking at strike three…have to swing the back to have chance to knock him in.

  96. He got some calls, but those pitches are too close to take. Jones’ AB was more pathetic than any. He swung at two balls out of the zone.

  97. Milo Hamilton says:

Haven’t had a hit with a runner in scoring position in this series.

  98. Thundercrack says:

I truly believe I could have had a better at bat than Jones in the first inning

  99. JohninOshkosh says:

    RBI’s are meaningless.

  100. theplanisworking says:

    and wins too……..

  101. Brandie says:

Well, McDonald almost had a hit. I know, I know…almost foes not count.

  102. Brandie says:

Should not say foes, should say does. “Duh”.

  103. Milo Hamilton says:

20 games into the season here’s how the Pirates offense ranks in the NL.

    Runs – 11th
    HR – 11th
    AVG – 13th
    OBP – 13th
    SLG – 13th
    OPS – 13th

  104. theplanisworking says:

Its spring time, and the Pirates have a new allergy:

Swinging the bat. Called third strikes are not “cool”, fellas………..

  105. Long game already when they can’t take the bats off their shoulders. 6 K’s through 3 innings. 1-0 bad guys.

  106. theplanisworking says:

    Where’s Jandy? ;)

  107. Is the an MLB13 curse like the SI and Madden Football video game curse for those on the cover. If so, Cutch is feeling it. Hasn’t been his same self this year so far.

  108. radio wave says:

Robbbie Grossman Started his MLB career today with a pair of doubles for Houston.

  109. Milo Hamilton says:

    Here are the 2012 rankings.

    Runs – 10th
    HR – 4th
    AVG – 14th
    OBP – 14th
    SLG – 9th
    OPS – 12th

Amazing how pretty much the same players produce pretty much the same results.

  110. Brandie says:

How nice of you to pass the inspiration my way. Thanks, Biz.

  111. Brandie says:

Sharpening her size 9’s. Watch out. :-)

  112. JRay3 says:

Wow we are actually ahead of two teams in most categories.

  113. Thundercrack says:

Looks like a lot of pitch and catch.

    Too many K’s

  114. Arriba Wilver says:

  115. Way to go Pedro! 1-1 now and a 6 game hitting streak for him. The lefties are making Halladay work this inning.

  116. Brandie says:

Vote for Pedro. Game is tied.

  117. JohninOshkosh says:

Pedro with a hit with a RISP!

Can’t believe he laid off that two strike pitch by Halliday. Good for him.

  118. Brandie says:

And the pink hearts, orange stars, green clovers, blue diamonds, yellow moons, purple horse shoes, and red balloons…sorry, started drifting.

  119. Whatever happened to 0-2 waste pitches. Howard almost hit that out of the freakin’ stadium (though it was only the second deck).

  120. JohninOshkosh says:

Ryan Howard with an absolute moon shot off Juan D. 2-1 Phils.

  121. Yet again, we tie the game up to only give it right back the next half inning.

  122. JohninOshkosh says:

Per Philly TV: prior to this game Phils had not had a homerun off a southpaw all year.

    Two tonight.

  123. Milo Hamilton says:

The double plays you don’t turn will kill you.

  124. JRay3 says:

Up until that upper decker Howard was hitting .111 against Wandy.

  125. JRay3 says:

Hanging curve balls, booted DP balls, throwing to the backstop…this all spells a recipe for disaster.

  126. Did the rest of the starters put something in Wandy’s water or something. He just doesn’t have it tonight and is laboring like the rest of them.

  127. Milo Hamilton says:

Said it before, how is Dan Iassogna still umpiring in the big leagues ? He is awful.

  128. MacDonald’s been robbed twice tonight. Do the Phillies know the line for tonight? Nice catch though.

  129. theplanisworking says:

Is it my imagination, or has umpiring gotten worse the past 3 years?

  130. Milo Hamilton says:

    No and yes.

  131. theplanisworking says:

    Oh My God…………..

there is now a segment called the Whiff…… presented by Head and Shoulders.

I have now seen it all………..

  132. When your starter’s given up two home runs through four innings it’s unbecoming to complain about the umpiring.

  133. You may have a future in politics or corporate PR.

  134. Thank you Rollins for your horrible baserunning tonight.

  135. Yes in my book, but for more than 3 years.

  136. Baywatch says:

Walk: “The horse is out of the barn now!” Love it!

  137. Milo Hamilton says:

Sorry Officer. It’s going both ways. I wasn’t saying we were being cheated. He’s just bad. I’d say the same thing if I was watching the ESPN game. Can I get off with a warning ? I can’t afford the points.

  138. Baywatch says:

I was getting ready to say between Wandy’s curve not working and his emotional problem, Phillies getting ready to pound him on the ropes … then we get another break. Maybe out stinker Pirate luck is changing. I HATE to see Halladay benefit from all this. I don’t LIKE that guy!

  139. He’s definitely back. Can he get hot enough, and stay hot enough, to climb above .240, or is this a case of Boras 1, Pirates 0 no matter the outcome? Jury’s out.

  140. theplanisworking says:

Are you saying Milo is a slimy liar? I hope not…….

  141. Eric Bowser says:

Maybe I should turn this game off… I think I’m bad luck for the Pirates….

  142. theplanisworking says:

Actually, I wouldnt want to whiff what they are serving up……….

  143. In honor of Milo, you get off with a commendation for interesting driving.

  144. Go the other way Cutch!

  145. Milo Hamilton says:

Maybe sometime before the night is over we could reminisce about our hit.

  146. Milo Hamilton says:

The roads are very dangerous Officer, I try to get off of them as quickly as possible.

  147. JohninOshkosh says:

I dont know, I kinda like Lasagna if served with a robust red wine.

  148. Interesting question: where does the PBC’s “luck” in recent years come from? When you flip a coin and it comes up tails 20 times in a row you may be unlucky but more likely you have a problem.

  149. Baywatch says:

Come on, Guys! Let’s pick Eric up!

  150. Eric Bowser says:

weak attempt by Pedro… he’s not helping me!

  151. Baywatch says:

    Or a demon!

  152. Baywatch says:

I thought that was a little weak, too, Eric.

  153. Eric Bowser says:

We have a Pittsburgh Nation for the Pirates?

    LOL at Iron City

  154. 3-1 now, but at least Halladay is out of the game. Hopefully we can get another hit from their bullpen. Hopefully our pen can hold.

  155. Milo rocks. I was commenting on the fact that he perhaps ironically took a firm stand on two sides of a controversial issue.

  156. Baywatch says:

We REALLY just have one hit? Funny how there’s hype like nobody’s business over the no-hitter, but give up one – and it gets overlooked! Of course, for my part, it loses some of its luster when we’ve had three or four take GUT PITCHES for a strikeout … and really, Halladay’s command just wasn’t that great.

  157. Eric Bowser says:

Not a fan of Walker batting RH, hopefully he can prove me wrong…

  158. theplanisworking says:

Sorry, when I think of PR people, or politicians, those 2 words come to mind. Which I am losing more of day by day……………..

  159. Eric Bowser says:

tons of movement on his pitches tonight… Charlie Morton -esque… lol

  160. 21sthebest says:

  161. Brandie says:

    Well put Officer Mancuso.

  162. Pedro hits a HR, but only a solo shot. 3-2 now.

  163. Eric Bowser says:

    WOW…. LH pitcher…. Pedro bomb

    3-2 Phillies

  164. theplanisworking says:

  165. pattonbb says:

    Hello Pedro.

  166. Can’t fault pitching if you give up 3 or less. The pitchers are over-reaching because they don’t buy in to the lineup.

  167. The ZERO wins for the Window tonight, now that Gaby is pinch-hitting for MacDonald.

  168. Brandie says:

You did this! Eric, Eric, Eric!

  169. MadTurk says:

That was .111 against lefties this year he was batting .304 against Wandy I believe.

  170. JMB says:

  171. radio wave says:

A question for the blog. What is Pedro doing well when he is hot, that he is not doing when he is cold?

  172. theplanisworking says:

    Hitting the ball. ;)

  173. MadTurk says:

    Finding the acorn

  174. theplanisworking says:

    + squirrels ……… :D

  175. Bucs down 3-2, on deck Marte. Like.

  176. Patrick(ri) says:

Back to the future . . . Hurdle goes for the bunt. Fortunately, arte cant bunt.

  177. Patrick(ri) says:

This is your 300 hitter, so far — swing!

  178. Patrick(ri) says:

  179. Eric Bowser says:

Tabata almost gets picked off and now Snider rips RBI single….

  180. Baywatch says:

    Travis Snider! My Man!

  181. JRay3 says:

I think we caught a break Tabata looked out…no excuse for that, best thing about it they lift bunt and Snider rips ine for RBI single.

  182. Patrick(ri) says:

The bunt play almost caught him

  183. JRay3 says:

Time for Cutch to snap out of his funk

  184. Eric Bowser says:

whoa.. Marte almost tagged by McCutchen

  185. tdb1977 says:

You think Marte had his life flash in front of him with that ball hit by Cutch?

  186. tdb1977 says:

Bases loaded with none out. Time to put a couple more on the board this inning and send the Phillies to another defeat. Fear the bones!!!

  187. Patrick(ri) says:

So far, this game seems to have turned on which mgr made the worst decision– CM has the lbonehead lead (taking Halladay out). IMHO.

  188. MadTurk says:

Had to be a short life for that was ripped!!!

  189. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ye Olde Inge !

  190. Eric Bowser says:

I’m sitting here like … WTF… is Inge hitting for Jones, lefty or not… and wham… RBI single for Inge…. and that’s why baseball is great.

    Walker!!!!!!!!!!!! geezus

  191. theplanisworking says:

I am impressed by this comeback tonight.

Thanks to Chuck manuel for taking Halladay out. :)

  192. JRay3 says:

So far the early returns from Brandon Inge have been good…good guys take lead for first time tonight.

  193. tdb1977 says:

More Pedro power!! We need more Pedro Power!

  194. MadTurk says:

We need Pedro to find another package err nut here at this at bat

  195. Eric Bowser says:

    I’m taking credit (lol)….

  196. JRay3 says:

Melancon and Grilli time…six more outs boys.

  197. Baywatch says:

I second that emotion: Smokey Robinson

  198. theplanisworking says:

    Well deserved, too! ;)

  199. JD says:

I love Walker, but he seems to hit into a ton of double plays. More than Pedro?

  200. Milo Hamilton says:

    Was that Horst Muhlmann ?

  201. Baywatch says:

Little Ol’ Inge out there on first base! Hey, The Little Inge That Could! Get it? Like “The Little Engine That Could?” Right, Bay, we’re with ya! :-)

  202. MadTurk says:

To far removed rom the hockey yesterday’s hockey thread?

  203. Baywatch says:

He makes more CONTACT than Pedro!

  204. Baywatch says:

Horst Bucholz from The Magnificent Seven!

  205. Milo Hamilton says:

    Both born in Germany.

  206. MadTurk says:

Some insurance runs would be nice then bring on the cheese

  207. MadTurk says:

He would boot it for 3 runs

  208. MadTurk says:

Wow I was bitten by Jandy it seems

  209. Boise Bucco says:

Holy crap are these MY Pirates?

I go to the gym and Halladay is 1-hitting them. I get back to find out that the Phillies have been Inge’d.

    Let’s Go Bucs!!

  210. pattonbb says:

    Anyone but Tabata,

  211. theplanisworking says:

    Marte is fast!

  212. pattonbb says:

    Starling Marte is a rockstar!

  213. tdb1977 says:

Grill Cheese time! Shut them down and go to a 12-9 record gentlemen!

  214. Patrick(ri) says:

The heck with batting practice — i would pay t o see a flat out race, home to 3rd between Cutch and Marte.

  215. Drew71 says:

    That’ll teach him.

    Stinking Philly.

  216. JohninOshkosh says:

    You betcha!

  217. Ed says:

Just how far ahead is the live game ahead of the radio feed? Already final?

  218. tdb1977 says:

You can raise the jolly roger! Bucs win! Bucs win! 12-9 in the young season and these battling Bucs are showing a little bit of moxie this young season. Can go for the series win tomorrow.

  219. JRay3 says:

Scoring four runs in the last three innings behind clutch hits from Alvarez, Snider, Inge and Marte and another shutdown performance by Bucs pen highlighted by Jason Grilli’s 9th save in as many chances the Bucs down the Phils 5-3 and there was noooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Pirates move a season best three games above .500 and are 11-4 in their last 15. The Pirates will look to take their second consecutive four game series against a NL East foe when James McDonald takes the mound tomorrow afternoon in the series final.

    Lets Go Bucs!

  220. Ed says:

    Raise the Jolly Roger!!!

  221. Raise it, Baby!! Nice come back against their pen. I had a feeling once we got him out we might start doing something. Do it again tomorrow!!! Go Bucs!

  222. Drew71 says:

    Holy Crap.

    Another One Bites The Dust.

  223. MadTurk says:

    we Grillied the Phillies

  224. MadTurk says:

    verus the alternative

  225. Lad9 says:

Lets go for the series win tomorrow. What a nice win-raise it!

  226. Milo Hamilton says:

    Ye Olde Inge.

  227. JohninOshkosh says:

    This is fun.

    April is the coolest month.

  228. Baywatch says:

I was sorta surprised – and nervous, truth be known: I figured Utley’s a hard man to strike out. And Grilli did it anyway! The wife and I liked the outfielders’ little mini-jump!

  229. theplanisworking says:

if after every win we “raise it”……. when does it come down?
If we win 2 in a row, the flag should already be up, right?

  230. Baywatch says:

    Good one, Mad!

  231. Baywatch says:

Planis, this is no time for logic! :-) Up here, Bro!

  232. It SHOULD, but someone at the stadium thinks that taking it down each time will let them raise it the next time. I say leave it up and just keep raising more flags like K’s for strikeouts.

  233. theplanisworking says:

    That resembled my Hippo Jump………

  234. Baywatch says:

I bet that stinker Halladay isn’t feeling/acting much like a good teammate right now.

  235. Baywatch says:

What say we just run away with the division? Nah … (slap: Remember, Bay, no getting excited after two collapses!)

  236. Baywatch says:

I’m pretty dadgum happy, too, that we got Wandy off the hook. I LIKE that guy, and he was having a bad hair day. He needed another reminder that we got his back!

  237. 12 down, only 70 more to go!!

Congrats to the new Clubhouse Leader – theplanisworking!!!

  238. Naje says:

Anyone still crInge-ing? Who would you have wanted in that bases-loaded, no out situation: Mercer, Harrison, Inge?

And how bout the play McDonald made early in the game? This team needs to make every out, every play they can in the field. Until Mercer can prove he can do that, we will see Barmes and McDonald (who had two hits stolen from him by A+ plays from Utley and Brown).

  239. MadTurk says:

Sounds like a Viagra commercial somehow

  240. Naje says:

Loved Martin’s conference with Grili before the final pitch of the game… they set him up very well with inside breaking balls… and then Barmes got into the conversation and Grilli let him know they were going outside. Martin then had a late set-up so Utley couldn’t see or sense they were going fastball away…

Martin is very good at what he does… invested in making this pitching staff and this team better.

  241. MadTurk says:

We did have one day of hot and humid weather. a couple warm and nice the rest were cool for sure. :-)

  242. MadTurk says:

For all the bashing he received from some posters I do like him behind the plate. I see improvemnet over ‘who was that guy last year’ :-o

  243. Ghost says:

The Bucs are finding ways to win. Hope they can draw upon these experiences later in the season.
But there were two bad efforts tonight. Both involved Marte at-bats. The first was when Marte failed to get down the bunt. Sure, he ended up with the infield single. But he and his teammates need to pick up the fundamentals on the fly (because we know they’re not getting good enough instruction down on the farm). And then there was Chase Utley’s screw up on the ball he let drop that allowed Marte to go to third. You see this all the time — infielders running into the outfield to make unnecessarily difficult plays instead of yielding to the outfielder. And then Utley compounded his screwup by trying to one-hand the catch. I know both of these stupid practices are the norm in the pros, but there is a reason we teach kids otherwise.

  244. Ghost says:

Yes, so far he is an improvement in every dimension.

  245. Thundercrack says:

I know I should probably wait until after tomorrow’s game, but the Phillies do not look like a real good team.

    Great win by the Bucs!

DK: You know, it’s funny that you think in that direction. I actually had the very same thought watching the Braves this past weekend, but I wasn’t about to included it in any of the writings because it would have been genuinely unfair to the good play of the home team. Wouldn’t be surprised to see both fade.

  246. theplanisworking says:

Compared to the Walking Dead behind the plate last year, Martin looks like the second coming of Johnny Bench!

  247. Naje says:

    DK …

That Twitter discussion of pitch framing/receiving was about as Seinfeldian a discussion you could ever have in sports.

DK: It was kind of lacking that big thumping bass line, wasn’t it?

  248. Naje says:

Yeah, but you know those lessons are so much easier learned after wins…after your teammates pick you up on the mound, in the field and at the plate. The team is beginning not only to believe that, but to expect that.

Standards are being set a bit higher, not by the front office (except for Nutting’s decree that starting slowly is not acceptable…) but by the players. Pretty cool to watch.

Wonder how much that player committee has had an effect on accountability…certainly seems so.

  249. Naje says:

You know the guy who wrote that music lives down the street from me… very neat neighborhood.

But after the first few exchanges I was sucked in… worlds collided.

DK: This was ridiculous. I’ve never seen a group of people more closed-minded while simultaneously tossing words like “objective” in your face. They’re seriously discussing pitch-framing (how you receive the ball) and passed balls (whether you receive the ball) as if they happen in separate realms.

  250. Jason81 says:

If the flag stays up for more than four hours, who do we consult? The parrot?

  251. Naje says:

I can’t stop laughing… this is bizarro world. And catching was position, so I’m just crackin up over the whole thing.

  252. theplanisworking says:

    No, the Pierogie.

  253. Naje says:

And what I mean by that is I’m a bit of catching geek…I get into that stuff. But this is just killing me. They give geeks a bad name. And I mean no disrespect by that.

  254. Ghost says:

The player committee: Good question. In the least it has not hurt, has it. And corny as the idea seemed at first, it might well be the reason things have turned around.

  255. Thundercrack says:

We should watch the games together.
