  5. JRay3 says:

Thanks for that update, good to hear not too serious.

  6. tcb says:

Day off for Cutch. He probably needs it.

  7. Thundercrack says:

Regarding the mini-controversy regarding removing McCutchen from the game on Friday.
I am totally fine with the move. Cutch was struggling a bit, and it may have been tough for them to get back into the game. And I understand the issues with the bullpen.

But I also would not have a problem with keeping your best player in the game and removing Snider and putting the pitcher in his spot….and letting the pitcher hit if need be.

As always this is just for fun and entertainment purposes.

Max “wager” is 100 units on each separate line.
All “wagers” must be divisible by 5.
Play as many lines or as few lines as you’d like.

Total INNINGS PITCHED by Jeff Locke in today’s game
    0 – 4.00 (DOUBLE ODDS)
    4.33 – 6.33 (EVEN ODDS)
    6.67 – 9.00 (DOUBLE ODDS)
    9.33+ (TRIPLE ODDS)
Anyone can play, and everyone should try!

Thanks to all for playing and good luck!!

  9. Playoffs, I’ll go with the 4.33 to 6.33 range for today. I hope he goes all 9, though. For 100 pesos, por favor. Thanks.

  10. tcb says:

    75 – 4.33 – 6.33

  11. Frankie says:

    100 on 4.33 to 6.33

  12. tdb1977 says:

    100 on the 6.667 to 9.00 odds

  13. KJX says:

    100 on 4.33 – 6.33

  14. Lad9 says:

100 piasters on 4.33-6.33 please. Thanks Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  15. JRay3 says:

Good morning from out here in the west to the window. Great day to take over first place and win another series.

So today’s line features Jeff Locke and the distance he will go in today’s ball game. In his four starts this year, he has gone 4 2/3-6 IP in them. He is pretty consistent in that range and the odds reflect that.

    I will take 100 in 4.33-6.33.

thanks playoffs and lets go Bucs!

  16. Jason81 says:

    100 on 4.33 – 6.33.

  17. radio wave says:

At playoffs: I will take the 4.3326.33. Let me use 75 on this line. Thank you

  18. Bizrow says:

    6.67-9.00 for 100 nuclear nuggets

    Thanks Playoffs

    Good line once again

  19. Bizrow says:

    or is it 6.34?

  20. Bizrow says:

Now you lunatics see why I am bringing up the rear ;-)

  21. bman says:

    I’ll take 25 on the 4.33 to 6.33

  22. cmat0829 says:

give me 100 on 4.33-6.33; data favors this… the overused pen lends some credence to pushing for 6 2/3 at least and if Locke is keeping us in the game I think Clint will push for that, but too many variables to having this be a lower innings count.

  23. JaxBuc says:

Please sir (or madam), may I wager 50 turtles on the 6.67 – 9.00 choice?

  24. Karen22 says:

I understand it now, too…and I’m also OK with the day off today. Cutch has to regroup and get his mojo back. I have no doubt that he will.

  25. Karen22 says:

    75 on 4.33 – 6.33

    Let’s ROCK, Locke!

  26. Officer Mancuso says:

Can the late blooming Locke pitch us into the division lead versus St. Louis’s boy wonder? Will Alvarez and Martin have a say? Play ball, and go Bucs! (By the way, who is the patron Saint of penitent Pedro mockers? Mary Magdalene?)

  27. John Lease says:

With injuries abounding, why can’t McDonald get hurt?

His appearance in the lineup hurts me, certainly.

  28. cherokee23 says:

    100 on 4-6

  29. It’s sir. There’s a Mrs. Playoffs.

  30. pattonbb says:

    100 on 4.33 to 6.33

  31. Arriba Wilver says:

    100 on 4.33-6.33 please.

  32. Eric Bowser says:

    Talk about a Sunday lineup…

  33. Why Johnny Ringo, what an ugly thing to say. (Val Kilmer as Doc Holladay in Tombstone)

  34. Drew71 says:

If Barmes needs a blow, I was hoping they’d start the OTHER McDonald there.

    He hits better

  35. Eric Bowser says:

Ho hum… another Marte first inning base hit.

  36. Eric Bowser says:

This team still can’t make productive outs. Tabata K’s and Jones flies out to LF.

  37. Drew71 says:

We talked about the Bylsma’s job security all over the morning thread.

    Neal’s turn. Only fair.

    Probably the Riverhounds’ turn.

I cannot offer a name. I fear I shall never know their names.

  38. Martin going deep again! Awesome. Bucs up 1-0.

  39. JRay3 says:

Rusell Martin continues to tattoo the baseball takes 1-2 pitch deep to center, his 4th HR of the year to give Bucs lead. What a difference having a catcher that can receive, throw out a runner and hit makes!

  40. tdb1977 says:

Only needs 17 more to match last years production. And his batting average is up at .254, which is 43 points higher then last years BA. What was Rod’s average and how many HR’s did he have at this point last year?

  41. tdb1977 says:

Anyone catch Buster Olney’s top 10 this week.

    10. Pittsburgh

  42. JRay3 says:

Interesting tidbit as Bucs play 25 th game of season, they own 4th best record in NL in addition to being just a1/2 game from first. But more impressive is they have compiled this start against oppositions with a combined 85-79 record .518, one of most difficult opening schedules.

  43. JRay3 says:

To be fair we could say that about Cards as well, both Beltran and Craig two of their best hitters had non productive outs in bottom half of inning.

  44. Officer Mancuso says:

Martin looks to be progressing toward his career batting stats, leaving last year as an aberration.

  45. Officer Mancuso says:

We’ve been here twice before, and collapsed. If this team can avoid the toxin in the wings….

  46. JRay3 says:

Actually could make argument it is a bit different. This year’s April record better than past two seasons.

    ’11 – 10-12 in April
    ’10 – 12-15 in April
    ’09 – 10-13 in April

14-10 with couple games left this April, good sign to be winning early at better clip than previous seasons.

  47. Officer Mancuso says:

Locke waoolks Locke. Political scientists suspect collusion

  48. JRay3 says:

Supposed to read ’12, ’11, ’10 most recent three seasons.

  49. JRay3 says:

GI Jones with double in corner, tough break as Leyva has to hold up Tabata as could not assume throw in would bounce away from cutoff man.

  50. tdb1977 says:

A poke down the line sends 2 more home for the good guys. Come on Gaby!

  51. tdb1977 says:

    Nevermind :(

  52. All I can remember is that it wasn’t good.

  53. I thought Tabata had some speed at some point in his career. With two out, he should have been able to score on that play, in my opinion.

  54. Eric Bowser says:

    What a play by John McDonald… e, i, e, i… OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  55. WAy to stay with that catch JMac Sr.

  56. JRay3 says:

WOW, what a a tach by Johnny Mac, over the shoulder basket catch running full steam out to center, be tough to find a better defensive play.

  57. tdb1977 says:

So that is why they traded for McDonald? Nice catch.

  58. JRay3 says:

And than very next play makes a diving play flashing the leather a bit more, can not underestimate the importance of defense.

  59. Eric Bowser says:

Martin with a double now… one man wrecking crew

  60. Yeah. Defense is holding strong for Locke today. Let’s get him some more run support.

  61. JRay3 says:

Don’t look now but Jeff Locke has not allowed a run in his lat 10 1/3 IP. With Liriano and Morton coming, Locke is stepping it up certainly would be nice if there are tough decisions to make.

  62. Eric Bowser says:

Jose Tabata’s bat is alive… opposite field HR

    2-0 Pirates

  63. Tabata makes up for not scoring before by tattooing a ball the opposite field in right. 2-0 good guys!

  64. JRay3 says:

BOOM, Tabata goes opposite field for first HR, 2-0 good guys and Miller now at 95 pitches…keep it going Bucs.

  65. The Gunner says:

Tabata finally comes thru, it has been a long drought for him.

  66. Patrick(ri) says:

The McClouth trade with Atlanta is starting to look terrific!

  67. Jeffy dealing today. Keep it up and keep the offense going. We should be getting close to getting into their pen. Miller at 98 pitches through 5.

  68. Nate83 says:

Morton pitched 6 innings today and gave up 3H, 1BB, 1ER and had 4 K’s. It sounds like his velocity and movement was good again.

With Locke pitching well it may be JMac that is odd man out. A good problem to have. Someone always gets injured and to have Cole, Locke and or JMac ready to step in would be nice. Not to mention the ability to trade pitching for other needs or have pitchers step in when and if AJ and Wandy leave or retire next year.

  69. MadTurk says:

Better a baseball then the ugly lip tattoo on his neck!

  70. The Gunner says:

Yep, maybe it is time to extend Neal Failington’s contract

  71. Nate83 says:

shhhhh!!!! don’t tell anyone. Trades are not supposed to end up good for the Pirates. Also Morton from that trade pitched very well today. I think 40% of a starting rotation would qualify as a good trade for McClouth.

  72. pattonbb says:

Brandon Inge fan club now accepting new members.

  73. Dadtackular says:

Hi all. At the game again today 3 rows behind Pirates “on deck” area. Warmer and drier than yesterday! GREAT SCORE! Sloppy defense by Cards!

  74. Inge gets a foot in there, for a 3-0 lead.

  75. JRay3 says:

Pirates B team getting it done today- Tabata, Inge, Johnny Mac, big games by all three of them.

  76. Do you mean Sanchez is the odd man out?

  77. Nate83 says:

Liriano will replace Sanchez. He is one rehab start ahead of Morton.

Also Sanchez should not pitch his next outing anyway which would have been his last. I have to imagine somebody (anybody) will take that start. My hope is Wilson but I think they want him to continue to excel at long relief and not mess with him.

  78. MadTurk says:

The better they do the more worried I get about an epic collaspe. Don’t get me wrong I love that they are winning but it still worries me. Just can’t shake the ugly feeling.

  79. JRay3 says:

You figure Morton is still 2-3 starts away from possible move or about another month. Could very well be a battle between Locke and JMac, the nice thing is with Locke gaining form there is no need to rush Charlie.

  80. Dadtackular says:

    Locke looking Great! 83 pitches

  81. JRay3 says:

First to admit not overly anomored with him, but has exceeded early expectations and I do like the fact he is a veteran that has seen and played through much in his career which could be an asset to the younger guys.

  82. Nate83 says:

Although I’m not a fan of the JMac Sr. and Inge moves I think they where made along with Martin to avoid another collapse. All those guys understand the grind of a 162 games season and know how to stay on track and not go on long losing streaks. They also are all good to great defensive players. Defense is more of a consistant thing that stays good throughout the season and allows you to to maybe steal a few games while struggling offensively.

  83. JRay3 says:

Read today it appears Jeanmar Gomez is going to make spot start Wedenesday.

  84. JRay3 says:

He is Locked in….now 12 1/3 IP without allowing a run.

  85. tdb1977 says:

Come on Clint. Let him come out to start the 7th and record one more out. Don’t call in the bullpen yet. He is dealing right now.

  86. Nate83 says:

Well he would have been about my 4th or 5th choice but anything is better then Sanchez.

Gomez also walks a lot of hitters so his pitch count could get high quickly. I personally think since Liriano is already stretched to 80 pitches why not bring him up.

    Thanks for the information.

  87. tdb1977 says:

    Thats a home run!

  88. Dadtackular says:

Hurdle runs out to request review

  89. Dadtackular says:

    How’s it look on tv?

  90. pattonbb says:

    That’s a HR for Jones!

  91. Jonesy going deep with the review. 4-0 now!

  92. Dadtackular says:

Jones hit a dave “kingman” like rainmaker!

  93. Nate83 says:

I hope Locke pitches the 7th. He deserves it and the bullpen could use a well deserved rest. Mazzaro could pitch pitch the 8th and possible the 9th if he is clean in the 8th.

  94. Dadtackular says:

Wifey says: “3rd Year is a Charm” for Pirates good start. (She is a Cardinals fan)

  95. JRay3 says:

Locke has lowered ERA from 5.17 to 2.82 thanks to the performance he has turned in last two starts.

  96. DADTACKULAR is bringing in the good mojo!!!

  97. Baywatch says:

The old Lumber & Locke Combo!

  98. Nate83 says:

Agree completely but if Morton has two more rehab starts like his last two I don’t know how he doesn’t fit into the rotation somewhere. He induces a lot of ground balls and seems a safer bet to get deep into games and save the bullpen.

If JMac and Locke continue to pitch well it is a great problem to have. One I can’t remember having in a long, long time.

  99. Baywatch says:

Used to be, with the Pirates luck, it was “one more biscuit for breakfast and that would have been outta here!”

  100. tdb1977 says:

    How about another Martin blast?

  101. Looks like Locke is gonna pay the daily double!!

  102. Nate83 says:

DK made him mad with that column he wrote last week.

  103. tdb1977 says:

  104. tdb1977 says:

No more grey man for me! :)

  105. Baywatch says:

The wife has taken to calling him Johnny Mack!

  106. Dadtackular says:

    Wilson hitting 94-95 mph consistently

  107. Karen22 says:

Happy to be wrong on the wager today! Locke was locked in! Nice job!

  108. Playoffs, can we get an updated standings after the game? Thanks.

  109. Dadtackular says:

    Broke 2 of Hollidays bats!!!

  110. Going to top of 9 and the Bucs up 4-0.

  111. chef automatic says:

Will Root let us see the ninth inning of this one?

  112. Dadtackular says:

  113. This makes up for the first game of the series as we go up now 7-0!!

  114. tdb1977 says:

Don’t take all the runs today as we will need them the next three days in Milwaukee.

  115. 2 dingers for Martin for a 9-0 lead!!!

  116. tdb1977 says:

Russell freaking Martin does it again! 9-0 good guys!!! Rod who????

  117. Boise Bucco says:

I’d just like to point out that I called a series win on Friday night after the Sanchez debacle…even offered to wager 100 on the window.

Also, if no one else has said it yet, #lockedown

  118. Naje says:

How’s that for run differential? That’s a good team.

  119. Dave G says:

So… THIS is what first place looks like at the end of April…

    I like it.

  120. Working on it as we speak…

  121. tdb1977 says:

This makes up for the opening game when the Cardinals came into PNC Park and embarassed the Bucs.

  122. tdb1977 says:

  123. TJ says:

So do we actually have a catcher who can hit and throw? Hello Mr Martin!

  124. TJ says:

The upcoming series in Milwaukee should be interesting; lets hope the Pirates get over the curse of Randall Simon and the case of the whacked brawt

  125. tdb1977 says:

I thought of this earlier today. If J. Sanchez stays around, and T. Sanchez is ever called up, and G. Sanchez plays first base in this so called game…we could have a Sanchez to Sanchez to Sanchez double play. How many teams can boost that double play?

  126. Lad9 says:

Raise the Jolly Roger for the first place Buccos! Nice comeback from the Friday night Jonathan Sanchez debacle. Damn this is fun – I will worry about the collapse possibilities later. Go Buccos!!!!

  127. JRay3 says:

Behind seven sterling innings turned in by Jeff Locke and four HR’s off the bats of Martin (2), Tabata, and Jones the Buccos crush the Cardinals 9-0 to win the series and take over sole possession of first place in the NL Central and there was noooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Bucs have won three consecutive series, have gone 8-3 in their last 11, 14-5 in past 19 and are season best five games above.500.

The Pirates head to Milwaukee to close out the 10 game road trip with Wandy Rodriguez set to take the mound in the series opener tomorrow night.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  128. Dave G says:

Raise it… to the top of the NL Central Division!

  129. tdb1977 says:

Time to Raise the Jolly Roger! Great win today by the Bucs. The first place BUCS!!!!

  130. TJ says:

Wow 3 hit shutout. That should give Locke some confidence

  131. TJ says:

Now if they just signed Freddy Sanchez to play second

  132. tdb1977 says:

5 hits in his last 2 starts. That really should give him some good confidence.

  133. Tom P. says:

I like the fact that they have won 2 of three at home and are over .500 on the road. If my memory is correct, that is a formula (over the course of a season) for playoff contention. I also like the fact that they score runs late in games. Too often in the past, the offense put up zeros after the fifth.

  134. TJ says:

very true; ERA under 3…. At least someone knows how to compete for a roster spot

  135. Karen22 says:

    Just WOW! But shhhhhhhhhhhhhh….

  136. Officer Mancuso says:

Go ahead, Division-leading Bucs, put an exclamation point on it this time!

  137. Officer Mancuso says:

    A Pirates pahrhaus.

  138. OK, so here is how the weekend shook out at The Window.

    Line #1 – OVER

Is management ALL IN? Are they willing to get the piece or pieces that *might* be needed in a few months if things keep going the way they are today? Does Huntington actually have the cojones to actually make the move to help put this team over the top?

  141. TJ says:

Nutting already made it clear that no one should expect the Pirates to go out and acquire anyone at the deadline that all their roster building was done in the off season.

  142. Thundercrack says:

    This team is on top.

  143. Thundercrack says:

  144. Thundercrack says:

I remember hearing from Yankee broadcasters that Russell Martin was a very streaky hitter.

Keep it up! Let’s go streaking!!

  145. JAL says:

Last time a Pirate team won 15 games in in April was 1992

  146. Drew71 says:

    Permanent new starting lineup?

  147. JaxBuc says:

Yeah, but I go back to a running gag from last year when there were a number of sir (Or madam) references, so I’ve just kept that as my standard “wager” intro.

    I’ll stop now.

  148. Thundercrack says:

Sure….Andrew McCutchen would make a great pinch hitter off the bench

  149. Drew71 says:

Oy. I just looked up the standings three times.

I was about to go for for but said STOP. Just stop. Stop.

  150. Thundercrack says:

I kept hearing them talk about the 2002 Pirates. That team went 14-10 in April. Take a look at that roster. Not sure how they won that many ….or a total of 74

  151. Drew71 says:

Look at today. Hardly need him.

Trade him for prospects and make Daq’s day.

Olney…only 10th? Somebody tell Buster I’m looking for him.

  152. JAL says:

There are reasons bench players are on the bench. They might have a good game but as they play more their weaknesses get exposed.

  153. Drew71 says:

Too late. Dejan and I are already back.

Did you know you can get to the Charity Sign?

Nobody eat off it after what Dejan did.

  154. 21sthebest says:

No need to trade Cutch. He still has 3 options.

  155. John Lease says:

He actually managed a hit today. Granted a right fielder better than Holliday(that’s everyone) would have caught it, but still. I liked seeing the highlight of it hitting his wrist and bouncing off Holliday’s head too.

    Even I’m not that bad…

  156. John Lease says:

Please, no Greg Brown enabling. He’s Garrett Jones, not in the army.

  157. John Lease says:

I’d also accept a Craig Wilson special!

  158. John Lease says:

The 2001 team was so bad they were due. As I remember, Jimmy Anderson started out fairly hot that year.

  159. pattonbb says:

    Charlie Morton today – 6IP, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 4K. 70 pitches, 8 groundouts,

  160. Eric Bowser says:

I cannot believe THIS team is in first place after the train wreck that was the first two weeks of the season.

I think I’ll head to city council and officially request the city of Pittsburgh to commission a statue outside of PNC Park.

  161. The Gunner says:

Yeah, it is hard to believe. Now a real test comes in Milwaukee. Then, next weekend they play the Nats at home.

It is all about the starting pitchers keeping them in games and hopefully, going deep into the game.

  162. Bill Born says:

I’ve said before – Trade ‘Cutch to the Cubs for Rizzo and Starlin Castro.

  163. Eric Bowser says:

I agree, the Milwaukee demons must be exorcised.

  164. Milo Hamilton says:

Only remember you saw it here first if it turns out to be right. Liriano’s 1st start will be Saturday, May 11th at New York.

  165. Drew71 says:

Saw what? Saw it where? Who are you anyway?

  166. The Gunner says:

at least we have a shot tomorrow night with Wandy on the mound.

  167. Baywatch says:

    Get Thee Behind Us, Satan!

  168. Baywatch says:

    Bah-Ha-Ha! (Excuse me …)
