  1. Bizrow says:

    Well, lets go Pens

If you haven’t logged in as to where you currently reside, please add a post to this one, so we can put your place of residence on our list.

If you are in the military or police/firemen, please add that as well.

    Pens in 5??

  2. tpbco says:

    Can’t go there.

It takes 16 wins to raise the Stanley Cup and they have to be done one at a time – can’t really even go with the Black “4” T shirts.

Gotta start with getting #1 tonite.

Game face engaged…the furniture is worried.

  3. Jandy says:

    I’ll drink to that!

  4. Jandy says:

If anyone is wanting good reading about the playoffs, FaceOffFactor has a good one right here, called the Round Table. Good stuff:

  5. tpbco says:

    Almost forgot….

    ALL IN.

  6. theplanisworking says:

Send this Hippo the flash cards, please. :)

  7. Dom says:

My prediction for this series is Pens in five games.

With Fleury in the net, how can one not be confident?

  8. Lad9 says:

    Agree. Pens in 5.

Lets go Pens! Pumped for this one but have to go to a school parent’s meeting tonight at 6:30. They better be quick!

  9. Kevin says:

great news about the local tv ratings for ROOT. now if they could only get better booth guys on the national NBC sports broadcasts. Most times I feel like turning on my radio and listening to Lange instead.

  10. tpbco says:

If I could sync them, I absolutely would.

  11. MrB says:

When will we find out who has been scratched for tonight?

DK: Usually about 10 minutes before drop.

  12. scapper says:

I usually feel that way about MAF, one of my all-time favorite Pens, but this first-born thing he has going on? Whew. Love how it’s trying to be spun into something that can motivate or — even more l laughable — provide some sense of calm and focus. Yeah, because having your first baby is great for that, ha ha. I hope he’s getting teased in “the room” about how irresponsible it was for him and the new missus to time their first one for late April.

    Pens in 7. Go Pens!

  13. scapper says:

When Crankshaft says it’s okay for us to be told.

  14. Sarah says:

Well I don’t wanna jinx our Birds so I will predict a long tough series….
I know the temptation is to overlook the Isles but lets be smart.

How far could a nbr 8 seed go, anyway?…..

  15. Dave G says:

    Let’s Go Pens!

    The journey begins…

  16. Dave G says:

No Sid tonight, or Brooks Orpik.

  17. BillyBaduka says:

  18. likeabugonarug says:

As long as the Pens remember that lower seeds can win if you let them, the Pens take it in 5. Look at the games last night going to OT.

The fun starts tonight. LET’S GO PENS!!!

  19. likeabugonarug says:

As much as I like the nickname, he just doesn’t look like a bus driver to me. :-)

  20. scapper says:

    EGG-zactly! Well said.

  21. Eric Bowser says:

Oh yeah… Pittsburgh Penguins playoff hockey!!!

    Penguins lineup (expected)
    1st: Kunitz – Malkin – Neal
    2nd: Dupuis – Jokinen – Iginla
    3rd: Morrow – Sutter – Cooke
    4th: Glass – Adams – Kennedy

    DP1: Eaton – Letang
    DP2: Despres – Martin
    DP3: Murray – Niskanen

    Fleury – Vokoun

    Islanders lineup (expected)
    26 Matt Moulson – 91 John Tavares – 24 Brad Boyes
    12 Josh Bailey – 51 Frans Nielsen – 21 Kyle Okposo
    40 Michael Grabner – 10 Keith Aucoin – 13 Colin McDonald
    16 Marty Reasoner – 53 Casey Cizikas – 17 Matt Martin

    2 Mark Streit – 37 Brian Strait
    3 Travis Hamonic – 47 Andrew MacDonald
    11 Lubomir Visnovsky – 14 Thomas Hickey

    Starter: Evgeni Nabokov
    Backup: Kevin Poulin

  22. Eric Bowser says:

Sounds like Bennett is playing over Kennedy, which is 100% fine by me.

  23. Don’t drink too much or you’ll fall asleep and miss it.

  24. Milo Hamilton says:

The reason the #8 upsets the #1 so often is that the #8 usually has to get hot down the stretch to make the playoffs while the #1 is coasting. The Islanders have lost only twice in regulation in their last 17 games. The Penguins have won only 1 series the last 3 years & Marc Andre Fleury has spent those springs making his aging counterparts look like Ken Dryden. They’re going to have to show me.

    Islanders in 7.

  25. Eric Bowser says:

    You’re joking right?

  26. Bizrow says:

    Respectfully, not this time

    Pens are loaded

    Its time ;-)

  27. JohninOshkosh says:

The Wild took the mighty Hawks to OT last night with their sparsely used backup netminder in goal on short notice. Take this as a hard reminder, Penguins, that playoff victories are hard earned.

One game, one series at a time. These kids from the Island are not pushovers.

  28. Brandie says:

One day at a time…The Pittsburgh Penguins and me…Getting It Done!

  29. Eric Bowser says:

Ok, I was right the first time… Kennedy is in, Bennett scratched.

  30. Eric Bowser says:

    Engelland in, Despres out. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Martin – Engelland
    Eaton – Letang
    Murray – Niskanen

    Really hate that move

  31. JohninOshkosh says:

Leafs up 1-0 early against the B’s.

And there is much rejoicing in Ontario.

  32. Jandy says:

    Good advice Spunky!

  33. Jandy says:

  34. Jandy says:

  35. Jandy says:

    He’s serious

  36. Milo Hamilton says:

I was trying to build a plausible scenario. A defense mechanism. Here’s one I forgot. They get outshot so consistently that if Fleury at all resembles the guy from the last 3 post seasons, they’re in real trouble.

  37. Jandy says:

    Amen OshKosh

  38. TJ says:

Couple things before we drop the puck on this playoff season…

    1. Is there any other professional team that has an atmosphere outside their arena like the Pens do during the playoffs? Any Pro Sport….

    2. Is anyone else afraid of the Casa Doro guy? Freaks me out.

  39. Jandy says:

    atta girl!

  40. theplanisworking says:

MY EYES!!! MY EYES !!!! ;)

  41. Eric Bowser says:

OMG… it has changed again…. now BB in, TK out…. geezus.

  42. Jandy says:

I’d love to see Toronto advance

  43. TJ says:

I think the key was mentioned during the pre-game. Neither Crosby or Malkin have ever scored on Nabokov. He’s got to be like Halak was a few years ago

  44. Eric Bowser says:

Oh, I agree it could happen.

I think it comes down to goaltending… Fleury would have to crap the bed and Nabokov play on cloud nine.

  45. BillyBaduka says:

Both scenarios are plausible and that’s why the anticipation is excruciating for me.

    Hope both scenarios are wrong.

  46. theplanisworking says:

One Day At A Time………. RIP Bonnie Franklin.

    One shift at a time.
    No turnovers.
    No Overconfidence.

    Lets Go Pens!

  47. Jandy says:

  48. TJ says:

I think this is where the additions of Morrow and Iginla is going to really pay off. I think they will be all over these guys despite the fact that they haven’t been around long. Its like we picked up Roberts and Guerin at the same time

  49. Jandy says:

  50. Milo Hamilton says:

Dwayne Roloson, Jaroslav Halak & Ilya Bryzgalov aren’t exactly preparing their Hall Of Fame induction speeches.

  51. Eric Bowser says:

    1) No… I don’t think so

    2) Same here…. what is he wearing under that suit

  52. TJ says:

I got freaking chills watching the intro and I’m not even in the arena

  53. Eric Bowser says:

Who needs them, we have Dupuis

  54. JohninOshkosh says:

I wish I was in Pittsburgh tonight.

  55. Eric Bowser says:

    freaking awesome intro….

  56. TJ says:

I was at game 3 of the cup finals the year they won and I thought that was by far the most amazing sports moment of my life. I can’t remember the last time I was this jazzed

  57. TJ says:

And a guy named Kunitz, and Neal, and a couple others named Morrow and Iginla, and forgot about that Letang guy. We might be ok.

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

    There is nothing like it.

  59. theplanisworking says:

They do a nice job, dont they?

  60. Karen22 says:

    LET’S GO PENS!!!!!!!

  61. Eric Bowser says:

    DK tweets

Vokoun, ever the leader, just had one whale of an animated motivational talk by the crease with Fleury

  62. TJ says:

Yeah I’d say so; don’t think they need a fireworks night to fill the seats

  63. theplanisworking says:

  64. BillyBaduka says:

    + 1

  65. Milo Hamilton says:

When I took my walk this evening I noticed houses decorated with Penguins paraphernalia like it’s Christmas. It gets really nuts here. Gets you fired up.

  66. TJ says:

I think Fleury missed the pre-game smacks from Talbot

  67. Eric Bowser says:

    Iginla’s eyes…..

  68. TJ says:

As long as cousin Eddie doesn’t show up with his RV in the driveway Clark

  69. Eric Bowser says:

real nice cycle down low by Sutter line

  70. JohninOshkosh says:

I’m listening to Lange on XM. The excitement is coming right through my radio into my kitchen. You can just feel it.

I’d like to be in that parking lot.

  71. Eric Bowser says:

early PP.. guess Matt Cooke draws penalty

  72. Milo Hamilton says:

    You made me look.

  73. TJ says:

    Keep it away from Grabner

  74. Sarah says:

Wow glad Cooke didn’t get knocked into next week….

  75. Eric Bowser says:

    Malkin looks amped up

  76. TJ says:

Come on; puck control. Set it up

  77. TJ says:

the back up is probably crapping his pants right now

  78. Eric Bowser says:

Nabokov looks out of it, get the pucks on the net.

  79. Sarah says:

And yes you can really smell the rubber on those.

  80. TJ says:

  81. theplanisworking says:

    BENNETT !!!!!!

  82. Eric Bowser says:

  83. Sarah says:

    Glad we didn’t sit BB!

  84. TJ says:

If Crosby is playing; I doubt Bennett is in there

  85. Eric Bowser says:

That’s why Beau Bennett needs to play. He doesn’t need big minutes to produce & be effective.

  86. Eric Bowser says:

    big stop by Fleury!

  87. Sarah says:

    Was that short side???

  88. TJ says:

First shot in the playoffs you get a goal; how many guys can say that???

  89. TJ says:

yep over the shoulder. No idea why Nabokov was down on that; he stands up and there is no shot

  90. Eric Bowser says:

    first shift, first shot, goal.

    Take that Mario

  91. TJ says:

Even Shero’s non-trades work in our favor! Streit takes the penalty; we didn’t trade him he was picked up on waivers!

  92. TJ says:

I think one of the biggest injustices in Pittsburgh sports was when Root removed Lange from TV. HORRIBLE decision.

  93. theplanisworking says:

you know, not trying to be a smart-butt Hippo here, but whenever that awful song by Fallout Boy comes on, I wish one of the following would happen:

    1) Someone throw water on them and shut them up…………
    2) Someone throw Gas on them and REALLY make them on fire, or
    3) Someone shut up that screaming cat.

    Back to the game……….

  94. TJ says:

Did they even show the forward combinations? I saw the defense but didn’t see the line combo’s

  95. TJ says:

Its like the Pens are sitting back waiting for the Isles to make a mistake

  96. Eric Bowser says:

    early in game, they did.

  97. Milo Hamilton says:

The Islanders have to be really happy with how things are going.

  98. TJ says:

    Morrow just laid a hit

  99. TJ says:

  100. theplanisworking says:

    DUPER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  101. Eric Bowser says:

Adams, Dupuis and Iginla… crazy action around Nabokov… gets out of position and Dupuis backhand

    2-0 Pens

  102. Dave G says:

Duper scraps one in. 2-0 Pens.

Root Sports switches to a replay of today’s Pirates victory.

  103. Dave G says:

Duper scraps one in. 2-0 Pens.

Root Sports switches to a replay of today’s Pirates victory.

  104. theplanisworking says:

  105. TJ says:

    BS call

  106. Sarah says:

    Standard technique on short angle

  107. TJ says:

Malkin is going to score tonight

  108. Eric Bowser says:

I was fine with penalty call, it was late in my view.

  109. Eric Bowser says:

He was oh so close on the rebound.

  110. Eric Bowser says:

Solid first period by Penguins, lead 2-0.

Playing a 1-2-2 at even strength, which I don’t think the Islanders were prepared to see.

  111. Drew71 says:

And you people thought I was jinxing.

    Sweep. Sweep. Sweep.

I’ll even call it an Absolute Lock.

  112. Eric Bowser says:

oh man, I was hoping you would have lost the link to here…. lol

  113. Drew71 says:

By the way. I just heard that Dejan was asked to leave the press box.

    You know why.

    Good for him.

  114. Jandy says:

    Another premonition, Eric?

  115. Sarah says:

  116. Drew71 says:

    You nervous?

    Afraid i jinxed em?

    C’mon. Really.

  117. Jandy says:

I’ve been saying that for years

  118. JohninOshkosh says:

  119. Drew71 says:

I hear he brought a broom.

  120. Jandy says:

    That was Strait

  121. theplanisworking says:

Did you give him the pom-poms? ;)

  122. Jandy says:

No later than any of the hits the Islanders make

  123. Jandy says:

  124. Jandy says:

    lol POTD

  125. Drew71 says:

    No. That was his idea.

I gave him the face paint.

  126. Jandy says:

That shot by Bennett….a thing of beauty

  127. Drew71 says:

Especially because it was kind of a surprise. (Sorry, Bennett)

  128. Eric Bowser says:

No fear, just messing with you.

  129. theplanisworking says:

  130. Jandy says:

Didn’t surprise me. The kid has it. Made me happy tho :)

  131. BillyBaduka says:

    It’s great stuff.

I understand your defense mechanism, use it myself.

And appreciate the foil it provides.

  132. Jandy says:

Is that during or after the game? Or both?

  133. theplanisworking says:

  134. Drew71 says:

Say it along with me, Eric.

    Pens In Three

  135. Jandy says:

  136. TJ says:

    What a shot

  137. Drew71 says:

    Well? Well?

  138. Eric Bowser says:

oh no… Neal hurt, way too much time and space for Letang, blows it by Nabokov. 3-0 Pens

  139. TJ says:

Time to pull Nabokov! SUPER DUPER!

  140. theplanisworking says:

    DUPER AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  141. Jandy says:

    Duper does it again!

  142. Drew71 says:

    Pens In Two!!!!!

  143. Eric Bowser says:

Here comes the onslaught….. 4-0 Pens

another chip shot by DUpuis on backhand

  144. Jandy says:

Neal got up is he ok?

  145. theplanisworking says:

I just swept my place today.
How long do I have to keep this broom??? ;)

  146. TJ says:

Well Jandy I guess if Malkin scores tonight it will be the other type of scoring ;-)

  147. Jandy says:

    And Nabakov chased

  148. Milo Hamilton says:

    Dupuis just tortures the Islanders.

  149. theplanisworking says:

    Drew, I like your style.

Hippos can not count, so the lower you go, the easier it is for me.

    Thank you. ;)

  150. Jandy says:

LOL Teddy Bear, I had to ;)

  151. Drew71 says:

Announcer: “This is when you gotta make a goalie change.”

    To WHO???

    Ken Dryden???

  152. TJ says:

I just saw Shero on the phone; I think it was Rutherford from Carolina calling to see if they couldn’t re-work that Jokinen deal. Hard to believe he made it through waivers only a week earlier

  153. Jandy says:

Buckle up, are you kidding me???

  154. theplanisworking says:

Couldnt happen to a nicer guy.

Nabokov always choked in the playoffs with San Jose.

  155. Ed says:

Wow. I took a break to have a snack and come back and they pumped in two more goals. I doubt the Islanders will even win a game in this series. And I felt this way before the puck was dropped tonight. Just too much experience and hunger on the Pens side.

  156. TJ says:

Keep the pedal on the gas

  157. theplanisworking says:

If I am any of the other 29 GM’s, and I see Shero’s name on the screen, I dont answer it. :)

  158. TJ says:

    Yum; snacks

  159. JohninOshkosh says:

Now this confuses me. I see the bold font. Is it from Dejan or Drew?

  160. Drew71 says:

    By the way.

How many goals does it take until they apply the Mercy Rule?

  161. theplanisworking says:

I just cooked dirty rice and jambalaya.
    Great minds think alike.

  162. TJ says:

I think I saw him walking across the mon river today on his lunch break

  163. Sipper63 says:

Lets go pens from Morewood Ontario

  164. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yum Brands ?

  165. TJ says:

Now that the Islanders have been lighted up can they change the music?

  166. TJ says:

There are different brands of snacks? Hell I just see snacks and start eating

  167. Drew71 says:

    It is from drew.

    From drew.

  168. JohninOshkosh says:

I like how this series has started.

The Islanders don’t play at Miller Park, do they?

  169. TJ says:

Pittsburgh Marathon officially canceled this weekend. Ray Shero named the winner

  170. Sipper63 says:

One game at a time. I like this one so far…..

  171. TJ says:

Was that Paul Martin on a wrap around on the back hand?

  172. Eric Bowser says:

Is that Bobby Orr or Paul Martin… what a rush!

  173. Drew71 says:

    ANYbody can be bold.

    Even me.

but only when my wife is not around

  174. theplanisworking says:

    Magic Beans again?

  175. J Walter Weatherman says:

Neal not back out since that hit. Maybe another concussion? Really slow to get up.

  176. TJ says:

He shot it right into the goalies chest. What a bum. He should be cut this off season!

  177. TJ says:

Thought he took a puck off the ankle

  178. Ed says:

Although, it was nice to see the Boys of Summer get one today.

  179. JohninOshkosh says:

Ha! I’ve noticed some of you can italicize and boldize. I don’t know how to do it in this format, and I don’t want to know. I do know how to do emoticons-that’s enough wasting of the brain.

  180. TJ says:

Or I could be completely wrong

  181. Jandy says:

I love seeing Martin so confident, this is the Martin we signed for $5M

  182. J Walter Weatherman says:

You could be right. I couldn’t tell, but it looked like it stemmed from a hit he took right before Letang scored on the PP. Hope I’m wrong.

  183. J Walter Weatherman says:

NBC crew is clueless on it. He was on the ice when Letang scored on PP in 2nd period

  184. TJ says:

Errey and Steigerwald don’t know much either; they are throwing out how he landed on his leg after the hit or it could have been the hit itself

  185. Eric Bowser says:

James Neal is out right now, took a good hit along wall, may have tweaked knee/ankle.

  186. TJ says:

  187. J Walter Weatherman says:

    The dreaded “lower body injury”?

  188. theplanisworking says:

    GLASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  189. TJ says:

1 GAME all season and gets one in the first playoff game

  190. Jandy says:

    Oh my. Glass too!

  191. Drew71 says:

    Now that’s BOLD.

    RIGHT, Oshie?

  192. Eric Bowser says:

Glass scores, 5-0 Pens… um, I think Isles are getting their playoff education.

  193. J Walter Weatherman says:

Danger of getting over-confident now. I’m hoping Iginla and Morrow help keep them grounded

  194. Milo Hamilton says:

Maybe they’d be better off playing without a goaltender.

  195. TJ says:

Tanner Glass scores and the Pirates win in Miller Park on the same day. Would love to see the odds of that happening

  196. Jandy says:

  197. Eric Bowser says:

Fleury making some real nice saves in 5-0 game, don’t miss his contribution.

  198. J Walter Weatherman says:

    1,000,000,000 to 1

  199. Jandy says:

I hope Dom reads this :)

  200. TJ says:

Trevor Gilles isn’t playing is he? Could see this get nasty in the 3rd

  201. TJ says:

Seriously I would love to see Mario suit up one more time. Looks like he could still rip it

  202. TJ says:

    Behind the woodshed

  203. Milo Hamilton says:

The longer you go without them scoring – it gets in their heads. Especially the star players. Let em sleep on it for a couple nights.

  204. JohninOshkosh says:

Do you take requests, Drew? How about a “—– called” post. I love those!

  205. TJ says:

I keep going back to my talk with Eddie Johnston at the airport in Ft Lauderdale after the Pens started 2-0. His comment to me on Bennett “Pittsburgh is going to love this kid; if he didn’t have the flu and lost 12lbs he would have made the club”.

I would say Eddie was spot on

  206. Drew71 says:

Weeeeee are in danger of overconfidence. Not them.

    And we don’t skate.

  207. Eric Bowser says:

Refs ignore some blatant hits from behind by both teams and charging… and now teams are agitated with each other taking runs. Real nice way to manage the ice by refs…(sarcasm).

  208. Dom says:

It’s now a little hard to believe that this game will go five games.

  209. TJ says:

The nice thing is; we went up 3-0 and didn’t give up the lead like we did last year. Not saying its impossible but 5-0 is about setting the tone for game 2 for the Islanders.

  210. TJ says:

Just some bogus garbage. Pens have to stay composed.

  211. Dom says:

I saw we only had three more shots on goal thus far.

  212. theplanisworking says:

These refs, and the St. Louis umps came from the same school maybe?

  213. TJ says:

You’d think they have enough officials in the NHL that even the linesman could wear the arm band and have 4 officials on the ice

  214. TJ says:

But the key is that we have 5 more that crossed the goal line

  215. TJ says:

I say we all pitch in and send some of the high classy ladies in Pittsburgh to the Islanders hotel tonight. Got to score some how

  216. TJ says:

As much as I feel for Boston and what happened during the bombings; I really hope this doesn’t turn into a 9/11 situation where NY made the WS.

  217. Jandy says:

  218. TJ says:

Ok… I know we are all excited about the Pens but did anyone see the news about the shooting in the Oregon grade school? 2 masked men stormed into the school and began shooting… Where the story gets more disturbing is that this was a DRILL set up by the administration after they had received training over the past couple weeks. The masked men were shooting blanks. WTF would have happened if one of those teachers were actually carrying a loaded gun? Might be one of the DUMBEST things I’ve ever heard.

  219. Jandy says:

Does anyone know if any other hockey organization puts up the outdoor jumbo tron for their fans? Just curious.

  220. TJ says:

I asked that same thing before the game Jandy. I don’t know of any PRO team that has an atmosphere outside their arena during a game like the Pens do. College is another story.

  221. Jandy says:

Thanks Teddy Bear, I missed that. I just think it’s pretty cool.

  222. Milo Hamilton says:

Aroldis Chapman can help them out with that.

  223. theplanisworking says:

    From Yahoo………..

” It’s becoming somewhat common place for teams to do that, especially late in the playoffs. Dallas, Buffalo, and Carolina are three teams I know do it just off the top of my head. ”

So, I am sure Pittsburgh was the first.

But it also is becoming more popular.

  224. Jandy says:

Thank you Hippo my friend :)

  225. Jandy says:

    That could have ended badly…

  226. Eric Bowser says:

My preference would be 1 head ref and 2 linesmen… get rid of 2-ref system. I hate it.

  227. Eric Bowser says:

oh, linesmen would be allowed to call penalties

  228. Jandy says:

  229. JD says:

What the heck is with all the hippo comments??

  230. Looks like a good night in the mecca.

  231. Jandy says:

  232. Jandy says:

Hey Spunky! It sure is :)

  233. theplanisworking says:

As I explained to Playoffs on the Pirate thread yesterday…….

    I am 6′ 3″, and weigh over 300 lbs.

I have a bad heart, and an infected leg.

I move slowly, and waddle like a Hippo, hence the Hippo references.

  234. Eric Bowser says:

    Real nice night.

Relaxing on the couch, house is quiet… eating Chips and Salsa… Pens are winning 5-0, Pirates shocked the world earlier today in Milwaukee..

  235. JD says:

Thanks for the explanation. I must have missed it. Good luck with all that.

  236. theplanisworking says:

    Its all good.

If one cannot laugh at oneself, one cannot laugh. 8-)

  237. theplanisworking says:

Glad that tickled your funny bone, Miss Jandy!

  238. Milo Hamilton says:

The rare double – Pirates & Penguins win on the same day.

  239. Jandy says:

    You’re the coolest Hippo I know :)

  240. Jandy says:

Just LOVED the win in Milwaukee :)

  241. theplanisworking says:

Um, Jandy, I am the ONLY Hippo you know! ;)

    But Thank You.

  242. Jandy says:

    Gettin ugly now

  243. theplanisworking says:

I look for NY to employ this tactic HEAVILY in game 2.

  244. Jandy says:

that was a slew foot Grrrr!!

  245. J Walter Weatherman says:

Mark Eaton: 8 blocked shots. It’s like having 2 goalies out there.

  246. Jandy says:

Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me!

  247. Jandy says:

    Shut out for the FLower!!!

  248. Jandy says:

    Livin’ the dream!

  249. Eric Bowser says:

    My Three Stars:

    #3 – Bennett
    #2 – Fleury
    #1 – Dupuis

  250. Milo Hamilton says:

The only thing wrong with tonight is more injuries. This team is made out of glass for goodness sakes.

  251. Drew71 says:

Really? Fleury only 2? If D’s goals disappear, it’s still a shutout win.

  252. theplanisworking says:

    Glass scored a goal.

  253. Eric Bowser says:

always easy to give goalie a #1 star in a shutout win but I like what Dupuis gave to the team with two goals, forechecking, and penalty-kill.

  254. theplanisworking says:

    Official 3 stars………….

    3 Iginla
    2 Dupuis
    1 Fleury

  255. Drew71 says:

D was great. But after the last season’s play, I think F’s great play meant more to the game and more to the team than anyone else.

  256. MadTurk says:

    Beau knows hockey!

  257. MadTurk says:

Jerry DiPaola needs to watch the game, the replays or at least listen to others who have already wrote how Jokinen was slew footed and did not get hit with a hip check. Gee whiz

  258. Eric Bowser says:

The Pittsburgh Penguins wanted to get off to a good start Wednesday in game one of their playoff series against the New York Islanders and after their dominating 5-0 win in front of an electric Consol Energy Arena crowd, the Penguins demonstrated they have the superior talent chasing Islanders goaltender Evgeni Nabokov from the game just 1:51 into the second period after giving up four goals on 15 shots.

Penguins rookie winger Beau Bennett playing in his first NHL playoff game scored a power play goal on his first shift, first shot, wristing a puck shortside over the shoulder of Nabokov just 3:30 into the game. Bennett said, “I worked on that shot quite a lot… scored a few times in Wilkes-Barre.”

Just ten minutes later, Pascal Dupuis sent a backhand into a yawning net as Craig Adams and Jarome Iginla were causing havoc around the net and helped lure Nabokov out of position for Dupuis to chip the loose puck into the goal.

Penguins broke the game wide open scoring goals at 1:19 and 1:51 of the second period starting with Kris Letang’s power play goal at the end of a 5-on-3 power play. Letang was able to get the puck in tight in the slot and with all the time to pick his spot, he was able to rifle a shot by Nabokov. Then just 32 seconds later, Dupuis chipped another loose puck behind Nabokov with traffic around the net and that was enough for Islanders head coach Jack Capuano as he lifted the veteran goaltender for Kevin Poulin.

Tanner Glass would finish the game’s scoring by sneaking a shot past Poulin in the second period. Glass scored one goal all season for the Penguins and finished the game with a team high six hits.

The teams got a little testy in the third period as the Penguins continued to finish their checks on the Islanders and center John Tavares. The Islanders, no stranger to dirty tactics against the Penguins, got a little too physical as veteran forward Marty Reasoner was assessed a 5-minute major and 10-minute game misconduct for kneeing Penguins forward Jussi Jokinen. After the game, Penguins head coach refused to update the status of Jokinen or James Neal, who went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury during Letang’s goal and never returned to the game.

As for Fleury, he said he “felt good” during the game posting a shutout to tie the franchise playoff record six shutouts owned by Tom Barrasso.
