Comments

  1. JAL says:

    Moves today–Hughes down Contreras activated

Walker to DL retroactive to April 27 and Mercer brought up

  2. JohninOshkosh says:

If we get a game thread for tonight’s game, could someone please re-post this for me? Thanks.

The Pirates welcome the single worst play-by-play combo in the history of spoken language into town tonight.
My sympathies for those of you who, like me, will be subjected to the DC broadcast feed all weekend.
Friday and Sunday will make me envy the deaf.
I hope those of you attending the games this weekend give Adam LaRoche the “warm” reception a player of his caliber deserves…

Let’s open The Window…What’ll ya have? What’ll ya have?
As always this is just for fun and entertainment purposes.

Max “wager” is 100 units on each separate line.
All “wagers” must be divisible by 5.
Play as many or a few as you’d like.

Please put your replies in this dialogue box, makes it much easier for me to “book-keep” that way.

    THREE-PLAY FRIDAY!!

    Line #1
Total STRIKES THROWN by AJ Burnett in tonight’s game
    Line is 66.5

    Line #2
Total STRIKEOUTS by Adam LaRoche against the Pirates this weekend
    Line is 4.5

    Line #3
Total WINS by the Pirates against the Nationals this weekend
    Line is 1.5

Anyone can play, and everyone should try!
Thanks to all for playing and good luck!!

  3. theplanisworking says:

    JAL,
with Contreras and Mercer brought up,

PLAN THE PARADE, MAN !!!!!! ;)

Does anyone want to guess what role Contreras will play?? I just dont see him being much of a factor.

Mercer we have seen before, and was left lacking.

    Thoughts?

  4. Good moves for right now.

  5. JAL says:

Late innings, probably 7th but might take 8th if Melacon unavailable.

  6. Bizrow says:

  8. Bizrow says:

    Thanks for posting that John

  9. JohninOshkosh says:

    Mr. Playoffs:

    Line 1: No “wager.”
    Line 2 75 Over
    Line 3 50 Under

  10. Karen22 says:

    100 each line: OVER!

GO BUCS!! GO PENS!! Beauteous weekend on tap!

  11. Karen22 says:

I meant to put this here (and it’s too gorgeous out not to gamble):

    100 each line: OVER!

GO BUCS!! GO PENS!! Beauteous weekend on tap!

  12. JRay3 says:

Just read at Tweet: Jason Motte, Cardinals closer did not feel comfortable throwing today, set to have Tommy John surgery Monday, huge blow to Cardinals and their bullpen.

  13. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the Window….great day to begin a series and extend this modest one game winning streak.

    Line 1 – 100 on the UNDER

    Line 2 – 100 on the UNDER

Line 3- 100 on the OVER

    Thanks and Lets Go Bucs.

  14. radio wave says:

at playoffs: I will go with 25 under on line 1, 25 under on line two, and 50 over on line 3.

  15. radio wave says:

I’m confused as to the reference concerning the most terrible broadcast team. The Nats? Radio or TV?

  16. radio wave says:

Why so long to put Walker on the DL?
And how can our wanabe baseball team be blacked out by another sport’s playoffs?(smile)

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

Inge RF? Whoa. I guess it’s because Tabby is down.

  18. Bizrow says:

And Snider might have taken a step back

  19. cosmo says:

    1. 100 over
    2. 100 over
    3. 100 over

  20. JRay3 says:

For any out of market Pirates fans…tonight’s game is the MLB Free Game of the day on mlb.com.

  21. Arriba Wilver says:

True, but I also think this guy is a tough lefty.

  22. cmat0829 says:

They delayed the DL decision because they wanted to see if he could play sooner then the mandated 15-days, i.e. this weekend. Now that they see he can’t they put him on the DL and here’s the good part… it is RETROACTIVE to when he last played, which is April 27th… so all they are really out doing it this way is having a short bench for the 4 games played since the injury.

  23. cmat0829 says:

Like the decision to start Inge in RF. Only other option was Garrett and he is needed on the bench if/when we get Detwiler out of there and are into their RHP pen.

  24. theplanisworking says:

I can watch it on MASN (Nats-Orioles Network) where I live………..

  25. tdb1977 says:

I’m going to get adventurous and take the over on all three lines by 100 units please!

  26. cmat0829 says:

I dont think he was their closer but still a big loss for them. I think Mujica had taken over.

  27. Arriba Wilver says:

    Line #2—OVER

    Line #3—OVER

    Thanks, John and Playoffs.

  28. cmat0829 says:

reposting here in case you don’t grab it from the other thread….

100 OVER for each of the 3 wagers. THANKS

  29. JRay3 says:

Really enjoy listening to Gary Thorne of the Orioles broadcasts, great hockey announcer back in the ESPN days as well.

    Bob Carpenter…meh…not so much.

  30. Arriba Wilver says:

    No criticism intended.

  31. JRay3 says:

Since he was unable to pitch this year was basing on his 42 saves from last season and what I had read from St Louis on-line stories.

At any rate, yes a big loss for their bullpen that has been very shaky.

  32. radio wave says:

    Plus one

  33. Ghost says:

Line #2: Love Adam LaRoche but gotta go with the OVER for 50 clams.

  34. theplanisworking says:

I liked it better when Jon Miller called their games. He is truly one of the best.

I still like the older broadcasters better……… Vin Scully, etc.

Maybe I am showing my age…….

  35. Pucknutz says:

100 UNDER on all 3 lines

  36. pattonbb says:

    Line 1 – 100 UNDER
    Line 2 – 100 UNDER
    Line 2 – 100 OVER

    Thanks, Playoffs.

  37. Joey Mellons says:

25 and over on all three lines.

  38. Lad9 says:

Will wager 100 Kuna on each line.
    Line 1 under
    Line 2 under
    Line 3 over

    Thanks Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  39. theplanisworking says:

    Playoff, via John in OshKoshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..

Line 1, assumes AJ will throw a lot of pitches.
Line 2 assumes LaRoche will strike out twice a game, on average.

    So, with all that……….

    Line 1………… 50 UNDER.
    Line 2………… 50 UNDER.
    Line 3………….50 OVER.

    Thank you, Gentlemen.

  40. Ghost says:

“Vin Scully, etc… Maybe I am showing my age…….”
This is a distinct Hippo possibility. I used to enjoy Scully growing up. But he’s intolerable to me now. So. Cal fans still love him though and recently he was just re-upped. This should make you a happy, happy hippo.

  41. theplanisworking says:

I also liked Jack Buck, and even Harry Carey.

Its amazing, but I cannot like Skip and Chip Carey, and Joe Buck. Just never appreciated them.

Old Hippos never die, they just fade into their ponds……..

  42. theplanisworking says:

    1-0 Pens already!

  43. Evan says:

AJ looked really sharp in the first. Good to see.

  44. theplanisworking says:

2-0 Pens 3 minutes into the game.
    Goals by Malkin and Crosby.

AJ looked good in the first. :)

  45. Frankie says:

    If not to late

    Number 2 over

    Number 3 over

    50 on both

  46. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH HR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. pattonbb says:

I think Cutch is out of his funk

  48. Officer Mancuso says:

Only AJ has the superpowers needed to pitch the Pens to victory.

  49. theplanisworking says:

    How correct you are!

    3-0 Pens, Crosby 2 goals.

  50. Ghost says:

Well, if someone had to break up the no-hitter, I’m glad it was Adam LaRoche.

  51. Officer Mancuso says:

Wow.9-0 so far in the series, right? That’s like 102-0 in football points.

  52. Ghost says:

I have no idea why the above posted there.

  53. theplanisworking says:

Sorry, 3-1 Pens. Forgot the Isles got a PP goal…….

  54. Officer Mancuso says:

    Or 3-0 in soccer

  55. Officer Mancuso says:

Something I came across today giving April MLB awards had Hurdle as NL manager of the year. And Davey Johnson is no slouch. Nothing good has happened to the Orioles after owner and tobacco lawsuit rich lawyer Peter Angelos gave Davey the bum’s rush in Baltimore. Two classic type baseball managers on the field tonight. Almost like Casey Stengel and Leo Durocher, except that Hurdle, as he’ll be the first to tell you, has lost more games managed, than won. I hope that aberration is soon corrected by his managing Pirate teams that break through. If he can do it, it will be a great story.

  56. JRay3 says:

The dangers of having Inge in RF rear their ugly head in Nats first run…a throw anywhere near the plate gets LaRoche by a few feet.

Really nice crowd at PNC Park tonight considering there is a playoff hockey game on TV and across the way.

  57. JohnH says:

    Go Bucs!!!

  58. Lad9 says:

Jordy with a 2 run shot! Wow

  59. JRay3 says:

Jordy Mercer goes Cannon Ball! Two-run shot in first game back with parent club…3-1 good guys.

  60. pattonbb says:

    Mercer? Are you kidding me????

  61. JRay3 says:

    Oops typo…Jordy Mercer

  62. theplanisworking says:

Looks like he should have been called up sooner?

  63. Milo Hamilton says:

Charlie Morton forced to leave his rehab start with shoulder tightness. At least it’s not his elbow this time.

DK: Just saw that. Certainly hope it’s nothing serious. Fine young man who’s done a lot to come back from Tommy John.

  64. Bob Hasis says:

Yes and if he was playing where he is supposed to (at SS), the shot would be even more profound and more appreciated

  65. JRay3 says:

They always say things have a way of working out when you think you may have a surplus of arms for the rotation. This news makes JMac getting right of greater importance.

  66. Milo Hamilton says:

    Amen brother.

  67. JRay3 says:

He was certainly hitting down in Indy…I believe the question is can he field the position at the Major League level.

  68. JRay3 says:

Great pickoff move by AJ catching Harper napping.

  69. pattonbb says:

Hate to say it, but I agree with you Bob.

  70. JohnH says:

    Awesome

  71. Milo Hamilton says:

Hopefully the Nats leave town before Adam LaRoche wakes up. As JAL has reminded us many times, he generally struggles in 1 of the first 2 months. Not both.

  72. pattonbb says:

He didn’t have much to show for it, but LaRoche hit the ball hard in their last series with Atlanta. Several good swings, just hit balls right at someone.

  73. Ghost says:

    +1

  74. Patrick(ri) says:

He is in Pittsbugh — they will have to stay until July.

  75. Patrick(ri) says:

I just got here, but didn’t
    I just see AJ bat?

  76. JRay3 says:

    +1…hysterical

  77. theplanisworking says:

    is he hurt?

  78. JRay3 says:

Huge K of Harper by Melancon who comes in and wiggles out of the 8th for his 11th hold of the year. Another insurance run would be great and than Grilli time.

  79. Patrick(ri) says:

Watching Melancon piitch is like watching M. Riveira — cool, direct and almost inexplicably unhittable. Very impressive.

  80. JRay3 says:

Gaby Sanchez and Travis Snider with two singles and Pirates have some runners on for Pedro and chance to add on.

  81. JRay3 says:

Pedro to warning track, just missed it.

  82. pattonbb says:

    I think Pedro’s missing a few things…

  83. theplanisworking says:

Golden Corral isnt one of them………… ;)

  84. MadTurk says:

Isn’t that were the hippo’s eat?

  85. MadTurk says:

Oops forgot the smiley face :-)

  86. JRay3 says:

Behind seven dominant innings from AJ Burnett, a 12th save from Jason Grilli and HR’s from Cutch and Mercer the Bucs take the opening game of the three game set versus the Nationals 3-1 and there was nooooooooo doubt about it.

The win moves the Pirates back to a season best five games above .500 at 17-12 and makes the club 2-0 to start the month of May after 15-12 April. The Pirates return to action tomorrow afternoon in the FOX Saturday Gameof the week with Jeff Locke taking the hill and looking to build on his 13.1 innings pitched without surrendering a run.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  87. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  88. JohnH says:

How did that other Pittsburgh Team Do?

  89. Lad9 says:

Raise it and fire a salute. Good solid major league performance by the local nine. Go Buccos!

  90. theplanisworking says:

Golden Corral, Old Country Buffet, wherever thers is unlimited grub, there will be Hippos. ;)

  91. theplanisworking says:

    Raise the Jolly Hippo…………………
but not too much. I will bend the flagpole……..

  92. Ermine says:

The Steelers don’t play in May.

  93. MadTurk says:

    And Travis Snider

  94. theplanisworking says:

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

    + many……..
