  1. Kevin says:

havent watched a bucco game in awhile, is Walker still hurt?

  2. Brad, Indiana PA says:

Is he ever really not hurt?

  3. Rehabbing in Altoona.

  4. Ghost says:

Marcum’s ERA of 7.20 you cite is over only 10 innings pitched. He has been hurt this year and is the biggest unknown for this game.

  5. Ghost says:

Emphatically applaud DK’s tweet directing those who are happy with the prospect Joel Hanrahan is headed for surgery to unfollow him. I, myself, get pretty upset when others relish the misfortunes of players who happen to be former Pirates. Have seen it a lot, whether the player was Jason Kendall, Freddy Sanchez, or now Hanrahan, apparently.

    DK: Sickening, isn’t it?

  6. Arriba Wilver says:

    I wonder if Martin’s hurt?

  7. Playoff by 2012 says:

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Line #1
Total PITCHERS USED by the Pirates in tonight’s game.
    Line is 3.5

    Line #2
Total COMBINED HITS by Andrew McCutchen in the 3 remaining games this weekend against the Mets.
    Line is 4.5

    Line #3
Total WINS by the Pirates in the 3 remaining games this weekend against the Mets.
    Line is 1.5

    Good Luck!!

  8. Playoff by 2012 says:

    + INFINITY!!

Joel was a professional while he was here. He came over as a reclamation project and left as a 2 time all star. I wish him nothing but the best.

  9. Bizrow says:

100 nuked goldfish on the undah for line 1

100 nuked goldfish on the ovah for lines 2 and 3

I got nowhere to go but up ;-)

    Thanks, Playoffs

  10. Arriba Wilver says:

Same with Lincoln’s troubles. I agree, Ghost. Well, maybe not so much with Kendall. :-)

  11. Playoff by 2012 says:

Or day game tomorrow and Sunday so he gets tonight off?

  12. Frankie says:

    100 on each

    1 under
    2 over
    3 over

  13. Arriba Wilver says:

Didn’t realize tomorrow was a day game. I live in Pittsburgh. ;-)

  14. Ghost says:

“Three-play Friday”, eh? Is next week foreplay Friday?

Okay, give me 50 smackaroos on the UNDER for Line 1, pretty please.

  15. JRay3 says:

Could not agree more…the Hammer gave the Pirates all he had and left it on the field. All-Star and great player during his time here, hope a speedy return for him.

  16. Milo Hamilton says:

Why in God’s name would anybody be happy he’s hurt ?

  17. TCB says:

#1. 50 on the under (Wandy, Melancon, Grilli).
    #2 50 on the under.
    #3. 50 on the over.

  18. Nate83 says:

I really like Joel when he played for us. It’s a shame this happened to him just before he was able to get a big payday for his hard work.

  19. Ghost says:

Whoops! Failed to place bet within this thread. Sorry. Please see my bet in very next comment after this thread. THNX!

  20. Nate83 says:

    LIne #1 – 100 on the under
    Line #2 – 100 on the under
    Line #3 – 100 on the over

  21. Jason81 says:

100 on the OVER for all three lines, please.

  22. JohninOshkosh says:

Love the guy. From my home state. Great tweet from Dejan! Worst thing about twitter-the twitiots.

  23. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window, time for these Bucs to get back in the win column.

    Three play Friday here goes:

    Line 1 – 75 on the OVER

    Line 2 – 75 on the UNDER

    Line 3 – 100 on the OVER

Thanks Playoffs and Lets Go Bucs!

  24. Playoffs, got to make up for last night, so here it goes:

    Line 1 – UNDER for 100
    Line 2 – OVER for 100
    Line 3 – OVER for 100

    Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs!!

  25. JohninOshkosh says:

Have not played for awhile, Lord Playoffs.

    Line 1: 50 Over
    Line 2: 25 Over
    Line 3 25 Under

And in honor of Mr. Gary Cohen “And a pleasant good weekend” Mr. Playoffs.

  26. Thundercrack says:

  27. Kevin says:

Not to be incredibly obtuse, but does that include wishing injury on non-former pittsburgh players as well? Cause there are moments… however brief… when I wouldn’t mind if tripped over his children’s toys and broke an ankle.

  28. Kevin says:

bah I should known better to use chevron characters. I meant to say (insert hated rival) between the IF and TRIPPED words above. bah, the more I think about it… not many people I would insert.

  29. cherokee23 says:

    100 over all 3

  30. Kevin says:

100 international units of measure on each of the lines above as UNDER, OVER, OVER respectively for each line above. Please and thanks, Mr Playoffs, Sir!

  31. theplanisworking says:

Those people who are happy with an injury to another player deserve to be eaten by a Hippo.

And, I might add, I would have an endless buffet in Philthadelphia.

    Classless, tacky, idiotic. For starters.

  32. Lad9 says:

Will never understand that mentality. And in Hanrahan’s case, he didn’t even leave voluntarily. I was at the game on Sunday and LaRoche was booed every time up. When he was here he seemed to me to be a stand up guy who gave us what he had – a .270 average 25 HR’s and 85 RBI’s. And although he was on record as wanting to try free agency, he too was traded away (for the dual immortals, Hunter Strickland and Agenis Diaz, a return for which NH should be flogged for even with having minimal leverage). Everyone has the right to boo, but I still hate that thought process – a pet peeve for sure.

  33. Patrick(RI) says:

A little worrisome that I am liking a Hurdle line-up choice (Tabata). I guess 3 hits and a line drive out of four “cold” at-bats will give you a shot.

  34. Lad9 says:

100 on the over for all three lines please. Thank you Playoffs. Go Buccos!

  35. Patrick(RI) says:

Even Aramis was hit with the boos when he came back with the Cubs. There sure seem to be a lot of sickos around, but I guess there are just so many homo sapiens nowadays who can not only boo at the games but also vent, on-line, in faceless “despicability.”

  36. cosmo says:

    Line 1 100 over
    Line 2 100 over
    Line 3 100 under

  37. pattonbb says:

    Line 1 – 100 on the OVER
    Line 2 – 100 on the OVER
    Line 3 – 100 on the OVER

  38. blazer says:

    Good lines today as usual!
    100 on each line

    1 Under
    2 & 3 Over

  39. Patrick(RI) says:

On the other hand, how can a major league team start a guy hitting .077? Gonna take a miracle tonight.

  40. Joey Mellons says:

    Line 1. 100 under
    Line 2. 100 over
    Line 3. 100 over.
    Lets go buccos.

  41. Dom says:

    1-100 under
    2-100 over
    3-100 over

  42. Dadtackular says:

    line 1 = over 100
    line 2 = over 100
    line 3 = over 100

  43. Arriba Wilver says:

    Line #1—50 on the OVER

    Line #2—100 on the OVER

    Line #3—100 on the OVER

    Thanks, Playoffs.

  44. Dom says:

The buccos rank 16th in home runs.

  45. T.S. says:

Because it’s unfortunately become the prevailing theme. Taking that a step further, I just heard a sports commentary today where he (the name of the sports reporter escapes me) wondered when (as example) an NBA fan would come out of the stands to assault a player on the court… in a game where many fans feel it’s okay to hurl racial epithets, flip the bird, swear at the refs, and make veiled threats (especially when having had one too many beers). I’m not surprised by any of it. And on the side of the players, sportsmanship has taken a back seat to arrogance, narcissism and garbage like the homophobic and bigoted tweets from so-called star athletes. Okay, off my soapbox.

  46. OZ says:

    1 over
    2 under
    3 under

  47. OZ says:

    100 fake samolians a piece!

  48. Bizrow says:

I’m posting late, but never understood the response to guys let go or traded.

Two exceptions, Barry Bonds, and Jagr.

I know, Bonds walked and supposedly threatened the Galbraith owners if they offered arbitration, he’d accept it, and Jagr got moved due to finances, and he was slowly “dying”

I would not boo JHarrison either, money thing

Other than those two, how do you boo players you rooted for?

Just sayin, with the caveat, I’ve thankfully never had to deal with divorce

  49. Bizrow says:

    But ovah or undah?

  50. Drew71 says:

Personally, I wanted his FEELINGS hurt.

When Pedro hits the World Series Game Seven Game Winning Home Run off Joel.

    And then I woke up.

  51. Drew71 says:

You won’t even be awake by then, will you?

  52. Bizrow says:

    Its FRIDAY

  53. I still say Searage could fix Lincoln. He had them talking “future closer” before the trade. Contreras can’t pitch forever. He certainly could pitch as well as Hughes did before he was sent out.

  54. Drew71 says:

Just watched tape of Ovechkin having the crap knocked outta him by the Rangers in Game Four.

    I mean literally.

    I think I saw a stain.

No idea why I was looking.

  55. Drew71 says:

Sometimes I just don’t know when to end a post

  56. theplanisworking says:

    Senor Playoffs………..

Please place 50 Henrietta Hippos on the following……….

    Line 2 — OVER
    Line 3 — UNDER.

    Thank you berry, berry much.

  57. Drew71 says:

And in a totally related matter…I’d like to share that we are just now eating dinner.

    Look at the time.

  58. Milo Hamilton says:

I thought everyone in Florida eats dinner at 4:00.

  59. Milo Hamilton says:

Russell Martin is out because his neck hurts.

  60. 21sthebest says:

Also agree. I also have to say that jokes about drunk driving is even more sickening since drunk driving threatens lives.

  61. Patrick(ri) says:

    Grilli can fix it.

  62. Ghost says:

There’s a reason your name is “we(i)rd” spelled backwards.

  63. He’s probably what caused it. Better keep him away from McKenry or we’ll be seeing Tony Sanchez soon.

  64. Ghost says:

Probably not the first time you’ve heard that, but it WAS the first time I thought of it!

  65. Ghost says:

What actually happened was pretty boring; Martin did it to himself during warmups the other day. But I like how your mind works!

  66. Wonder if anyone will catch up to Marcum’s 87 MPH blazing fastball.

  67. Brandie says:

    Evening, Hipposter!

  68. JRay3 says:

I was just thinking same thing.l.he is between 84-87 which should give a little more time to see ball and Marte and Mercer hacking at everything outside zone.

  69. Brandie says:

    Dripping with speed.

  70. theplanisworking says:

    ………….even a Hippo could hit it……… ;)

    Hi Brandie.

  71. Chuck H says:

Pirates first inning/3 up and 3 down-2 via strikeouts, and by a 7.20 ERA pitcher.

  72. JohninOshkosh says:

So it’s official. Catching the Pirates staff is a pain in the neck.

  73. JohninOshkosh says:

3 up 3 down happens about a bazillion times a year against aces and hacks alike.

  74. Thundercrack says:

    Mercer is tall

  75. Milo Hamilton says:

    Glad you noticed. :)

  76. Brandie says:

    Hey, Hey, Hey!

  77. JRay3 says:

Thought Jones should have scored there.

  78. Bob Hasis says:

A brilliant job of coaching by Leyva – TWICE. He is incompetent

  79. JRay3 says:

When Tabata could not take off immediately to avoid the ball that should have been first clue not to try and take third.

  80. Milo Hamilton says:

Another episode of Adventures In Baserunning by Jose Tabata. The sad part is that he should have been on 2nd to begin with. When the ball got away from the infielders on his single, the first baseman was in cutoff position & there was no one on 1st base. He should have been half way to 2nd on the throw. And then been able to waltz into 2nd when it goy away. Great stuff.

  81. Patrick(ri) says:

The Fort looks ready to hit tonight –

  82. JRay3 says:

At some point you would think the light bulb would go on, at some point right?

  83. Patrick(ri) says:

    A little too ready?

  84. Bob Hasis says:

Do the coaches have any role to play in those misadventures?

Yes Milo, in your scenario, Sofield had to be on his toes. And Leyva, I’ve used all of my expletives on him already

  85. theplanisworking says:

Oh, wait, wrong sport. Just warming up for tomorrow…….

nice AB by the Fort. Staying alive to get the double.

  86. JRay3 says:

Astute observation, he was pulling everything with authority and finally muscled a double.

  87. Brandie says:

I thought base running would be a prerequisite for a job playing baseball. Must have missed that in the interview.

  88. Patrick(ri) says:

Thank goodness they got to 2nd & 3rd!

  89. Brandie says:

  90. JohninOshkosh says:

Hi Robert. Good to “see” you.

Did you get my dues for the Nick Leyva Fan Club yet? :)

  91. Patrick(ri) says:

Talk about a gift. Awful pitching.

  92. Bob Hasis says:

We have to score 7-8 runs off of this stuff Marcum is laying in there

  93. JohninOshkosh says:

The Maple Leafs stink by the way.

  94. Bob Hasis says:

You are a charter member with credentials

  95. JRay3 says:

Wandy hits it hard enough so Marcum could not catch it, and helps his cause by playing another run.

  96. Patrick(ri) says:

Where is Jay B? Marte is flailing atblow and awaynstff lately.

  97. Patrick(ri) says:

    Pardon the ipad clutz.

  98. theplanisworking says:

Hippos dont hit. How gauche! ;)

  99. Brandie says:

Too busy doing The Hippo Hippo Shake.

  100. Bob Hasis says:

I am at a complete loss of comprehension – pitcher or not – he has to score with two outs

  101. Brandie says:

Wheels falling off for the Mets early.

  102. theplanisworking says:

Better than that silly Harlem Shake thing the kids are doing……..

  103. Brandie says:

    You icon of cool!

  104. Brandie says:

    Fly out for Cutch!

  105. pattonbb says:

Cutch missed that one by a hair.

  106. Patrick(ri) says:

What do you suppose the angle of Wandy,s “doward plane” is?

  107. theplanisworking says:

Am I the only one who thinks Ray Searage resembles a skinny Burl Ives?

  108. Milo Hamilton says:

All these extra pitches because of a missed 3rd strike call to Davis. Umpires are a necessary evil. I stress evil.

  109. Patrick(ri) says:

He must be glad his little bitty pitcher didn,t let him down . . .

  110. Brandie says:

And Brett Keisel is Yukon Cornelius.

  111. You’re right. Both men are good at their trade.

  112. Patrick(ri) says:

At least mlb is finally doing a little about them.

  113. :D

    Who’s the Bumble?

  114. theplanisworking says:

    Pedro. ;)

  115. I like both of the above for the job.

  116. theplanisworking says:

    + a whole lot

  117. theplanisworking says:

Colon was my first choice, but thankfully he is gone……

  118. theplanisworking says:

Yep, I will take one badonkadonk butt meal, and she will have the I cant see my toes meal.
    2 Diet Cokes with that, please…………… ;)

  119. Brandie says:

    Let’s Go Wand-Rod!

  120. Patrick(ri) says:

Still a shutout. He is fun to watch work.

  121. theplanisworking says:

Sometimes commercials are so stupid, they are funny.

  122. Brandie says:

That’s why I like the Blog…It’s quite random.

  123. Brandie says:

He looks like he truly enjoys dissecting opponents.

  124. Patrick(ri) says:

Have the coaches told Marte he can duck? He reminds me of Kendal, without the armor -just stands there and takes it.

  125. theplanisworking says:

  126. theplanisworking says:

Brandie, I think random is an understatement.

And I am sure Dejan just shakes his head at us sometimes…….

  127. pattonbb says:

That’s the second time Cutch had a pitch to drive but couldn’t square it up

  128. Brandie says:

He’s like someone’s overwhelmed, thoroughly confused dad. :-)

  129. JRay3 says:

Lets hope the umps get this one right, definitely a three run HR for Jones.

  130. Thundercrack says:

Let’s start making the Mets burn through some relievers.

    Early day game tomorrow.

  131. Patrick(ri) says:

Did you see the sign on the wall where umps went to view replay? “See how good you really are”. — ha!

  132. theplanisworking says:

The umps got it right??? WOW!!!!

    Great shot G. I. !!!!!!!

  133. theplanisworking says:

Or somebody’s uncle who gets driven to drink by rotten kids ! ;)

  134. Milo Hamilton says:

    Yay for Joe West.

  135. JRay3 says:

Back to back multi-hit games for Pedro closing in on mendoza line.

  136. Brandie says:

    Skyrocketing toward mediocrity.

  137. Patrick(ri) says:

6 runs with this batting order and Cutch 0 for 3. = outstanding! This could be the year.

  138. Brandie says:

    All hail the long ball.

  139. theplanisworking says:

  140. theplanisworking says:

    +2 ;)

  141. Brandie says:

    Dejan…The Blog Father!

  142. Officer Mancuso says:

Marcum used to be an elite, under the radar ace. Something’s wrong with him.

  143. Brandie says:

Again…Everybody working together to pick each other up when needed. Winning/playing decent ball changes everything.

  144. Milo Hamilton says:

His arm is being held together with bailing wire & chewing gum.

  145. JRay3 says:

With Walker set to return on Sunday has Mercer shown enough to stick and release McDonald? Just zero stick from Johnny Mac, he makes Barmes look like an imposing hitter.

  146. theplanisworking says:

    Point well taken…..

  147. JRay3 says:

Marte belts out Bucs 10th hit of night, four players with multi-hit games and only McDonald, Wandy and Cutch Sioux hit tonight.

  148. Officer Mancuso says:

Doubt he gets a rebate from the famous surgeon. Too bad. I always liked Marcum.

  149. JRay3 says:

Sioux? Should be without hit tonight.

  150. Officer Mancuso says:

Marte is a phenomenon. You need Duquesne (top of the hill on Blvd of the Allies) philosophers to unpack that.

  151. Jandy says:

    Divorce sucks.

  152. Jandy says:

Just got round to my dinner at 8pm

  153. Jandy says:

  154. theplanisworking says:

    Where is Jandy?

  155. Jandy says:

where did that come from? lol

  156. Officer Mancuso says:

The year Milwaukee hired Greinke & Marcum, I thought their GM walked on water.

  157. Jandy says:

Mrs. Dejan would roar at this stuff lolol

  158. Jandy says:

  159. Jandy says:

    Please don’t diss Barmes…

  160. theplanisworking says:

    There you are!

Was gonna send out an AHB for you………

  161. Jandy says:

ehh..daughter is having one of those hoity toity parties for a bunch of women tomorrow and I volunteered to make macaroni salad for her….didn’t get dinner until 8. Cleaned up all the mess, got nice hot shower…and here I am :)
    Glad someone missed me!

  162. theplanisworking says:

Ok, can we just cut him? ;)

  163. Patrick(ri) says:

Any bets on who pitches for us next inning? I think he should get aother inning or two out of current guy. Good chance to rest whole late inning pen.

  164. theplanisworking says:

    We do miss you.
    And any other “regular”.
    And Groat.

  165. Jandy says:

yeah Groat was kinda upset I think. I miss him too

  166. Jandy says:

  167. theplanisworking says:

    Do not thwack the Hippo!

  168. Jandy says:

Hey Brandie, I see you and Hipposter were rocking the blog earlier lol

  169. theplanisworking says:

I cant even remember what got him so upset.

  170. Jandy says:

  171. theplanisworking says:

Hippos do rock…….. its natural for us to walk……… ;)

  172. Jandy says:

It was Dejan trying to clean out the same ol rigamarole beat on the Pirates BMTIB schtick stuff

  173. Jandy says:

  174. Patrick(ri) says:

You see strange and wondrous things on Pirate basepaths.

  175. theplanisworking says:

    Such a shame.

  176. theplanisworking says:

    Yes you do.
Cirque de Soleil got nothing on us………

  177. Thundercrack says:

Mazzaro is going to get tired

  178. Jandy says:

I’m pretty sure that’s what it was…in any case, yes it’s sad :(

  179. Patrick(ri) says:

Good for the kid. Give him the 9th. Would he get a save?

  180. 21sthebest says:

Phenomenomial Psychology. I can picture the plaque on the building.

  181. Patrick(ri) says:

Old man of the sea in the 9th?

  182. Milo Hamilton says:

Indeed he would have. Three innings is a save no matter what the score.

  183. Patrick(ri) says:

I think I would have preferred a tired Mazzaro.

  184. theplanisworking says:

I am a confused Hippo on many counts here.

    1) DK posted this thread as Pirates 7, Mets 2 final before the game was over. Early deadline?

    2) They just said Grilli could get a save. I thought there was a 3-run lead or less limit on saves?

  185. JRay3 says:

Behind the solid start of Wandy Rodriguez and three RBi’s to go with three extra base hits from Garret Jones the Bucs even the series with the Mets by virtue of a 7-3 win and there was nooooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Pirates improve to 19-16 on the year, 4-4 in the month of May. The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon in the third game of the four game set with Francisco Liriano set to make his Pirates debut on the mound.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  186. Ghost says:

Old Man River. Who didn’t keep rollin’ along. He cost me fifty fake bucks because now we’re on our fourth pitcher.
