Pittsburgh sports talk with the Trib columnist

Chat with Dejan Kovacevic

  1. Randty Cyphert says:

Would iginla have been more productive if he was put on Sid RW immediately? Why is Beau Bennett the Pens version of Steve McClendon? Finally Will Bylsma finally lose his job? And how would Rick Tocchet be received by Shero? Thanks DK!

  2. Duffy says:

Between Dupuis, Cooke, Iginla, Murray, and Morrow, who do you think stays? Cap geek says we have 7.8 million to spend. I’m hoping for Dupuis and Cooke but who knows…

  3. Chris H says:

How much blame if any does Ray Shero get? No draft picks playing any role (granted the trades), deviating from a roster type that won the cup full of grit and defense to surround Sid / Geno. Drafting heavy not only towards one position but mostly a certain type in that position that has a high bust rate, takes longer to develop and do not have as much value until they prove they are not busts.

As of now we are still at least 2 – 4 years away from really, I mean really counting on these puck moving defensive players to carry the load on defense.

Not destroying his plan long term as he has better prospect trading chips to a point and it could still work out especially if we can drop some prospects for ready to play guys this summer. But are we not wasting prime years of Sid and Geno right now with a very long developing prospect plan?

  4. Jordan says:

Hey Dejan, hope all’s well. We’re seeing the unraveling of the Pirates that’s been predicted. The bullpen is overworked, forcing Hurdle to use second-rate relievers, starting pitchers are dropping both physically and in terms of results and the offense is terrible. I don’t see this team winning more than 73 games. What are your thoughts on what you’ve been able to see in your limited exposure to them thus far? Thank you.

  5. Ryan says:

We have heard it all year. “We didn’t get to our game and that’s why we lost.” Well, let it be known, “Your game” is completely flawed and the Pens were in trouble from the start in this series. The Bruins support the puck for 200 ft (on the forecheck, backcheck, in the neutral zone, etc.). Dan Bylsma’s stubbornness and unwillingness to adapt has left the team in peril. We still try these long stretch passes and aerials out of the zone that are never effective against good teams,

It actually was a great hockey game last night. I am not going to say it was not. But having said that, if the Pens are content with playing these close games where one bounce can decide it, then the Pens are done. The Pens have to win 4 games in a row and playing the same exact way is not going to work. If Bylsma is not going to change, then it’s up to the Pens captains to have a meeting with him and demand it. Enough is enough.

  6. Tim says:

Hey DK, thanks for staying up late last night. If you were Mario, not Ray Shero, what’s the first move you make this off-season?

  7. tim m says:

it has been said that the penguins are a team built like a ferrari when you need an svu to win in the nhl playoffs do you agree with this statement?

  8. Ted says:

After his helmet came off and Sid played well, maybe this doesn’t make much sense to ask, but have you noticed Sid not going to the same spots on the ice after his jaw protector came off?

  9. Mike A. says:

Couldn’t agree more with your comments about Vokoun. But, he’s 38, bordering on 39. Now that this season is, for all intents and purposes, over, who do we see between the pipes in October? I seriously doubt it will be somebody wearing number 29.
