  4. Drew71 says:

    No reason to wonder.

    i AM an idiot.

  5. 21sthebest says:

Something’s wrong. This thread is at the top.

  6. theplanisworking says:

when you see this, there are some people who put their wagers on the morning thread.

  7. Frankie says:

    Give me 50 on 6 to 8

  8. Karen22 says:

    Posting this yet again:

50 on 6-8 (and I hope I’m overstating this and am wrong)!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all of the loony dads out there.

    GO BUCS!

  9. Lad9 says:

Lets see, we will put 100 darseks on 6-8 hits given up by young Mr. Cole. Thank you Playoffs and thank you Hippo. Lets go Buccos!

  10. Bizrow says:

    100 on 6-8

    Thanks, Playoffs

  11. JAL says:

the hits keep right on happening. Martin was in the original lineup but scratched due to left elbow tightness.

  12. likeabugonarug says:

How cool that TBS picks up today’s game. That means I get to see it! Let’s Go Bucs!

  13. Joey Mellons says:

    100 on 9 or more.
Hope I wrong but trying to double up.
    Lets go bucs.

  14. Karen22 says:

Twitter says “lower body soreness.” WOW, though…starting to get scary.

  15. Lad9 says:

Huntingdon on the radio claims the lower body soreness is nothing to worry about for Martin. Hope he is being truthful.

  16. Hope Cole is good at holding runners on.

  17. Dadtackular says:

    100 on 6-8

  18. JaxBuc says:

Please sir, may I have 50 unnamed units on 3-5?

  19. 21sthebest says:

Sounds like Martin had a vasectomy overnight.

  20. Jason81 says:

100 units on 6-8 hits, please!

  21. radio wave says:

At playoffs: I will take 50 on the 3 to 5 line. Thank you

  22. cmat0829 says:

    100 on 6-8 please.

  23. Brandie says:

Hello Lunatics. Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads. Let’s Go Buccos.

  24. Matt hoffman says:

Give me 100 on 6-8. Thank you!

  25. Drew71 says:

What a GREAT way to celebrate Father’s Day!

  26. Lad9 says:

Hey Brandie! Thank you. Lets go Buccos!

  27. Brandie says:

Hey there. Hope the Pirates can stay competitive through this rash of injuries.

  28. Thundercrack says:

Barajas is the catcher that needed one of those

  29. 21sthebest says:
  30. 21sthebest says:

  31. 21sthebest says:

    Looks like a sellout.

  32. Dave G says:

Presley out in a play similar to Walker the other day, leaving third too early on a ground ball and getting caught at the plate.

Do we have a third base coach?

  33. pattonbb says:

    Another out at home.

Not to worry though, GI Jones clears the bases with a 2 run double!!

  34. Dave G says:

Jones drives a gapper to right and two runs score.

  35. 21sthebest says:

    That’s on the runner.

  36. Dave G says:

    It’s on the third baseman.

  37. Arriba Wilver says:

    Happy Father’s Day, loonies.

Neverett thought the Parrot’s Mom showed up. smh

  38. We need some baserunning tips. Another runner cut down needlessly at 3rd. He scores on that grounder to short by Cole.

  39. Thundercrack says:

Someone needs to remind McKenry that he is not a fast runner.

  40. Lad9 says:

I have a much better feeling about this years team being able to do that. Mainly for the simple reason that this year when injuries hit the staff, we can bring up actual prospects instead of the likes of Chis Leroux, Bryan Burress, and Chris Jackubauskas ( involuntary shudder rippling through the vital organs as I type that). Even position player wise we have some progress.

  41. Drew71 says:

No. He needed a bat. And a glove.

  42. 21sthebest says:

How close are you to the field?

  43. Drew71 says:

But how many of them were walk-ups?

  44. Drew71 says:

    You’re there, Thunder?

Then this game is Entrusted to you.

    Don’t let us down.

  45. Brandie says:

Amen to the base running tips. The sooner, the better. Anyone know Willie Mays Hays?

  46. Brandie says:

Blog is messed up…none of the time posts are right.

  47. Drew71 says:

Tho you can’t do worse than youknowwhovacevic did on that vote thingee

    Can you?

  48. Brandie says:

Finally. Drafting quality players and getting the best available free agents instead of the cheapest.

  49. Thundercrack says:

Greinie is the human rain delay. This game might be over by Mother’s Day

  50. Drew71 says:

Yes we are. The clock, too.

  51. Brandie says:

    Did you break the blog?

  52. Dave G says:

Presley a liability in left field and on base these last two days.

    Disappointing today.

  53. Drew71 says:

    No. Just embarrassed it.

  54. florida steeler says:

Where the hell do we get outfielders that cannot pick up a ball little league kids do and the Dodgers get a kid like Puig??? Great scouting department.

  55. florida steeler says:

The lack of fundamentals on this team is mind boggling. One of the worst clutch hitting teams in baseball, horrible base running for two years in a row now and Cole decides to quit running on a bunt attempt. What do they do in Florida???–golf??

  56. Arriba Wilver says:

  57. Arriba Wilver says:

    Look for sand crabs.

  58. Thundercrack says:

I think it wasn’t so much about scouting. It was more about throwing a ton money at the kid

  59. Lad9 says:

Hah! I just figured out the blog clock and why. The blog is on Nome Alaska time and that must be where DK is vacationing. His flight overshot Winnipeg – or maybe it landed with no brakes and rolled that far across the prairie!

  60. Jim S. says:

All on McKenry. No reason to go with the pitcher up.

  61. theplanisworking says:

Like there aren’t enough of those on this blog……….

  62. Jim S. says:

Tough battle today. LA getting runs on small ball and bad Pirates decisions. Pirates working Greinke hard, and also squaring up some balls but still not much to show for it.

I hated the inning where Puig got the infield dribbler hit, stole second like taking candy from a baby, & moved to 3rd on another slow infield grounder. Then, he scored when, inexplicably, the Bucs left the infield back with Cole pitching to the #6 hitter with a man on 3rd & none out with 7 & 8 hitters waiting. I bring my infield in every time there, because even if they scratch out a hit, I have Cole pitching vs. the bottom of their lineup. Predictably, they hit a slow grounder to SS, and we handed them run #1 while Walk applauded our strategy. I’m sure the “book” said leave the infield back, but logic said bring it in.

They also scratched out the tying run on a bloop hit to LF. That was frustrating.

And, as I type this, Day-dro just made everything I typed a lot less compelling by hammering one to CF. But, I refuse to go back and erase what I already typed! Go Day-dro!!

  63. JRay3 says:

El Toro goes Bucco blast crushing that Greinke hanging soft curve for a 3 run shot….much needed two out RISP hit!

  64. Drew71 says:

    Nice job, Thunder.

  65. Lad9 says:

    Pedro in the hedges!

  66. Bizrow says:

Carry flag poles thru the sand

  67. JRay3 says:

His 15th HR of year, his power when it shines through is such a difference maker.

  68. Arriba Wilver says:

    My thoughts, exactly.

  69. pattonbb says:

Don’t forget about the midnight base running drills

  70. JHadar says:

I think the thing I like most about Alvarez is the constant notion that “He’s about due to hit one out.”

  71. JRay3 says:

Alex Presley may have cost a team a run over running ball for second straight day…totally agree on first run of the game, good throw by Fort has Puig on steal and they barely hit Cole but managed a run.

Given the fact that Marte, Martin, Tabata are down coupled with AJ and Wandy out of rotation to be in position to win another series with the arms the Dodgers have thrown out this series is a testament to the will and fight of this team.

  72. pattonbb says:

It’s all or nothing with him.

  73. Arriba Wilver says:

  74. Thundercrack says:

    You entrusted me.

  75. Jim S. says:

Agree JHadar. He missed that hanging curve with the bases loaded last time and I was thinking if Greinke does that again it is going to disappear.

  76. Jim S. says:

I agree, JRay. This team definitely embraces “next man up.” They all seem to contribute. Snider was scuffling, and then suddenly came up big yesterday.

  77. Jim S. says:

Yes, but it is starting to look like there might be35+ of the “alls” this year.

  78. Bizrow says:

Maybe its time to get Gerrit out?

  79. JRay3 says:

Had a chance to steal one in a Kershaw – Cumpton matchup, like how they battled.

  80. Jandy says:

  81. JRay3 says:

Unfortunate break for Cole there, makes a great pitch on change-up to Ethier and he gets bleeder that takes forever to get through right side, all in all another decent outing by the rookie.

  82. Jim S. says:

From your keyboard to Hurdle’s ears.

  83. Jandy says:

    Good call, Biz

  84. Jandy says:

So, Drew embarrassed the blog, TC is at the game and entrusted with getting us the W, what did I miss?

  85. theplanisworking says:

    Not for nothing,
but was Thunder “entrusted” with today’s game, or “encrusted” with it?

  86. theplanisworking says:

    Sand Crabs.

  87. theplanisworking says:

    Sand Crabs.

  88. JRay3 says:

Huge K by Wilson to end top half of sixth, 97,98 from the southpaw just overpowering.

  89. Jim S. says:

    + Many.

  90. Jim S. says:

Correct, Thunder! We don’t have Cuban prospect money.

  91. Jim S. says:

The Martin flyout was a killer. So close.

  92. Jandy says:

what did the sand crabs do?

  93. Jandy says:

    maybe both…

  94. JRay3 says:

Well I guess this answers the question of whether Marte was headed to DL, good to know Bucs will have him for big Reds series.

  95. Jim S. says:

He does not appear to give up a lot of hard hit balls. I think this is more than just good fortune.

  96. Jandy says:

    Woot! Presley!

  97. We’ll keep entrusting you. I’ll send you some cash toward your season tickets since I can’t be there.

  98. theplanisworking says:

    They populated this blog.

    How were the outlaws? ;)

  99. JRay3 says:

How about that, what AP cost team in field earlier makes up with bat, solo shot over Clemente wall giving him a three hit day.

  100. Jandy says:

Are these two a nice one-two or what?

  101. theplanisworking says:

Nothing like baking a win with cheese, eh?

  102. theplanisworking says:

    Are you an owl? ;)

  103. Jandy says:

  104. Bizrow says:

This feels like the 13th inning

  105. Jim S. says:

Presley makes up for the fielding miscue. That little guy has some pop. I’m ok with him as an extra OF.

  106. Jandy says:

Happy. Stuffed themselves on our stuffed shells, had blueberry jello with blueberries and cool whip for dessert, and departed for home to watch the game. He’s a Dodgers fan, remind me to call him when the game is over ;)

  107. Jim S. says:

A lot of people were down on him last year because he slumped for a long time, and his batting avg. was lower. But, he really seems to get a lot of XBH. He’s a contributor, for sure.

  108. Thundercrack says:

Groupings. We got all got them

  109. Jandy says:

    tell me about it!

  110. theplanisworking says:

  111. Jandy says:

Presley with a homer, Jordy with a double…

  112. Jandy says:

Nah, just a crazy beyotch ;)

  113. Jandy says:

    Gropings??? Ohhh groUpings ;)

  114. theplanisworking says:

Or, you can grope the group.

  115. theplanisworking says:

Wash your mouth out with soap.

  116. Jandy says:

    is that a mass orgy???

  117. Jandy says:

Nice DP to end the inning

  118. theplanisworking says:

Just the blog on a Pens game night.

  119. theplanisworking says:

If you dont, I may have to sit on you. ;)

  120. theplanisworking says:

What would happen if in the bottom of the 7th, you took a Hippo out to the ballgame?

  121. Jandy says:

    lol good one Hipposter

  122. Jandy says:

Better not, I’ll goose ya :P

  123. Jandy says:

    HONK! lol

  124. theplanisworking says:

Now THAT I want to see!

  125. Jandy says:

He’s do the purple Hippo dance for the stretch ;)

  126. Jandy says:

    LOL just be careful ;)

  127. theplanisworking says:

    You Rang?? ;)

  128. Jandy says:

    Nice catch!!!!!!!!!!!

  129. 21sthebest says:

Tell her about it, tell her everything you feel.

  130. Jandy says:

  131. Jandy says:

    two down, one more Cheese!

  132. JRay3 says:

Behind a Pedro Alvarez three run blast, another decent start from rookie Gerrit Cole who earns his second win and a MLB best 25th save from the league’s top closer Jason Grilli, the Bucs beat the Dodgers to take the series 6-3 and there was noooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Pirates move back to 13 above .500 at 41-28, and have won three consecutive series. The Pirates are 14-6-3 in series this season. The Pirates return to action tomorrow night when they begin a nine game road trip in Cincinnati in a key four game series with their division rival. Francisco Liriano will take the ball in the opener of the set.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  133. Jandy says:

And a huge K to finish it off :)

  134. theplanisworking says:

    Raise The Jolly Hippo!!

But lower me quickly, coz I need to go to bed, as I am under the weather.

Good job to Thunder, for encrusting the win.

Good job to DK, for, well nothing. ;)

  135. Lad9 says:

Raise it!. Like the way this team is hanging and fighting adversity.

  136. JRay3 says:

Backend of bullpen continues to be invincible.

  137. Jandy says:

Go rest, and feel better Hipposter

  138. Jandy says:

    Gotta love it!

  139. Jandy says:

    you know what? Never mind.

  140. kr70 says:

4 big games in Cinncy and the rotation is a mess

  141. Jim S. says:

5-4 trip would work, but of course I will hope for more.

  142. Jim S. says:

Split there works for me. This team battles. They also like to hit in Cincy. That is a HR ball park, and we are a HR team.

  143. JohninOshkosh says:

41 wins needed from Father’s Day to October.

    I like their chances.

  144. Drew71 says:

To add more of the math, 41-52 (.441) or better.

    We’ve been here before.

  145. cherokee23 says:

    Billy Joel?

  146. Bizrow says:

    I want more

    Just sayin

  147. John Lease says:

Kicking the Dodgers around is always good for the soul.

And we did it without Jose Hernandez, the whiffiest whiffer of all time.

  148. Arriba Wilver says:

  149. tdb1977 says:

I felt like the 19th inning by this point in the game. Sat through the heavy rains around noon to 2. And then the game seemed to drag for parts of it today. No matter, we won. Cole looked good again. Pedro sent a ball to the hedges. Finally got to see the Grilli entrance for the 9th. And best of all, sending the Dodgers packing with a 2-1 series win. Also, seeing the Marlins take 2 of 3 from the Cardinals, which has alowed the Bucs to climb to within 3 of the lead.

  150. Playoffs by 2012 says:

As promised, here are the updated standings.
One caveat though — The game thread for Friday’s game has disappeared from the blog. So I am unable to add any “wagers” placed for Friday’s game. If we get that thread back I’ll update accordingly.
