Tonight marks ‘The Final Word’ … from you!

By Dejan Kovacevic | Trib Total Media

I’m effectively off break today, which means I’ll have a column in tomorrow morning’s Trib, all the usual blog fodder will be back and, of course …

… the joint venture between WPXI and Trib Total Media into sports TV continues tonight at 11:35 p.m. with the latest episode of The Final Word.

>> Who’s on: WPXI contributors will be Alby Oxenreiter and Bill PhillipsThe Trib will be represented by myself and Rob Rossi. Our topics will be led by the Pirates’ continued strong play, but we’ll also talk some Penguins in advance of a momentous few days on the personnel front.

>> How to participate: Each week, we also take comments from viewers through 20-second videos you submit on The Final Word’s Facebook page, as well as comments to The Final World’s Twitter account

>> Where to watch: In addition to the regular broadcast on WPXI-TV, we have WPXI’s live online stream for Pittsburgh’s many out-of-town sports fans, as well as video podcasts available on both outlets’ Web sites.

Here’s last week’s episode.

Really hope to have you, not only watching but also joining in!

  8. War Horse says:

Since being swept by the Braves earlier in the month, the Bucs have been playing .667 ball. That’s 10-5, up to today. Four series wins and one draw. The Pirates’ pitching staff has the lowest ERA in the major leagues = 3.19. The average number of runs per game in those last 15 is up to 4.20, good enough in theory to win when you’re only giving up an average of 3.19 runs to the opposition. California teams, including the Giants and Dodgers, have added significantly to the improved Bucco stats. The Angels appear to be in disarray: pitching, coaching and fielding problems abound. They’ll be battling for all they’re worth to salvage one game out of the series this afternoon. But, keep in mind it’s a day game and Pedro is seeing the ball particularly well these days, day or night. Go Bucs!

  9. Pucknutz says:

    Morning Loons,
Just stopped by to say hello.
Been away from the blog for a bit. Almost detoxed from the Pens playoffs and since I am still boycotting the Nuttings I have not had much to say.
Rosssi has a great article on Shero/Letang this morn.

Tried to watch Game 5 of the Finals last night – just could not bring myself to turn it on.
Like watching your ex girlfriend make out w/another guy or sumpin like that. LOL
Sounds like its been a pretty tough series so far. Might force myself to watch if it goes 7.
Game 7’s are just too cool.

My golf game is getting worse not better, was never much to start with but I still have fun. 1 or 2 good shots a round make me happy.
Maybe I should go hit some balls today.

  10. Sarah says:

    Bergeron possible ruptured spleen, yikes.

  11. Where is Drew. On vacation again?

  12. Drew71 says:

Haven’t had much time lately to post.

Just like Dejan. We’re keeping our jinxes off the Pirates.

If Dejan and I keep this up, we may be eligible for playoff shares.

  13. Drew71 says:

Yesterday we moved our son out of his college apartment and, temporarily (i hope), back home. Graduated (BS) Magna-something in two years. Starts grad school in January for clinical psychology and needs a home for awhile.

    Sounds mature, yes?

Not if you saw his apartment. Appallingly, um, euphemistically, dirty.

He sometimes shaves his head. We used to think to be trendy. Now we think to avoid lice.

There are no stories of his apartment I can share in mixed company. Even with Thunder.

And now he’s coming home. To live with his OCD neat freak father.

    This can’t end well.

  14. I know a good candidate for his first consultation.

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

    My house, my rules?

Or, you could say “I have the Final Word.”

  16. +1

Who are you rooting for today, AW?

  17. Drew71 says:

    The lice

  18. Lice vs. Nats. Lice are worse.

  19. Thundercrack says:

    Graduated BS.

Well considering who his father is no wonder it only took him 2 years

  20. Arriba Wilver says:

The Nats. My buddy even said if the Nats were out of it he’d root for the Pirates, so it has to be the Nats. I went to school with a bunch of people from Northern Virginia in any event, and the Washington teams are like a second home from that.

  21. theplanisworking says:

I would have thought he could have skipped skool for that………………….. ;)

  22. Thundercrack says:

If the Nats somehow come back and beat the Bucs out of a wild card , I’ll blame you AW.

But I guess either team could do that.

  23. Thundercrack says:

Once again the only team in baseball with more wins than the Pirates is the one team ahead of them in the standings.

And is it OK to say “if we can’t beat Joe Blanton….!!”

(hey, at least we didn’t sign Joe Blanton)

  24. Drew71 says:

Only if it’s a journalism degree, Plan.

    Well. Not exactly a degree…

  25. Arriba Wilver says:

If they miss by one game, you can blame me. But I’m in the Nats home. And I will be wearing my Pirates shirt and ball cap. It’s not like I’m Benedict Arnold. :-D

  26. Arriba Wilver says:

  27. theplanisworking says:

  28. theplanisworking says:

    Who is Joe Blanton? ;)

    Go Bucs!

  29. Thundercrack says:

OK AW, you’re wardrobe gives you a pass today.

  30. Bizrow says:

    Go like 60

  31. Thundercrack says:

Funny line in the other paper about James McDonald

‘His rehabilitation clock could pause and start anew if another injury emerges.’

  32. Thundercrack says:

    Your wardrobe

  33. Thundercrack says:

Just read Starkey’s article on Charlie Morton.

Great article with a lot of good insight.

I am officially back on the Charlie Morton Bandwagon

  34. Naje says:

Finally, a story about a guy who was faced to make some tough decisions and made them in order to better himself, earn his pay and contribute to his team.

And there was no mention of his dog. But there was mention of him being re-signed, even though some chose to ridicule the signing. Guess the money was wasted on Karstens and not so much on Morton…yet. And seems like the PBC paid a lot of money (relatively speaking) for those starting pitchers…all 11 of them. And they now sit at 45-30.

    Imagine that.

    Nah. It’s unsustainable.

  35. Drew71 says:

In Pittsburgh, wouldn’t that be “your cupboard”?

  36. Drew71 says:

    Or is that cubberd?

  37. Karen22 says:

If another injury “emerges??” HAHAHA!! It must be lying dormant, kinda like shingles, awaiting another “convenience” listing.

  38. radio wave says:

thanks for those stats. I was wondering what the June record was.

  39. radio wave says:

    plus 100

  40. radio wave says:

Come on TC, that was below the belt.

  41. radio wave says:

Just found an audio clip on twitter from siriusxm radio. They are reporting on an article in the other paper that the Bucs might send Cole down because of the Super 2 situation.

You have been missed at The Window.
Please feel free to stop by and visit again.

  43. Brandie says:

    Good Day Lunatics,

Just got back from a small hippie festival. Had a good time camping. Quite tired, though. Got back to good news that the Buccos are lighting it up. Thanks to CH who has the magic touch and seems to be getting his guys opportunities to compete not just offensively, but defensively as well.

I hope Cole does not get sent back down due to Super 2 status as I would like to see the Bucs win now and having your best out there gives us the best chance.
It makes me excited to know that the Pirates will be movers and shakers at the deadline, though I am not sure if getting Stanton would mean giving up an arm, as leg and a few eye teeth as well. Time will tell who will be out there. One of the best things about this is the Pirates will attract talent because of the winning. Talented players will no longer feel that they are relegated to MLB’s version of Siberia when sent here.

Oh well! Excited for the afternoon game today. Have a good day all.

  44. Playoffs by 2012 says:

The Rockies have acquired former Bucco, Hisanori Takahasi

Ryota Igarashi was shocked by this news….

  45. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    It truly never gets old!

  46. Drew71 says:

Which is especially painful, considering how I always blog buck, stark nak…
