  1. Bizrow says:

Here’s some good news – Cubs and the No. 2 pick, Bryant are far apart in a deal.

Always like to see the Cubbies struggle

  2. theplanisworking says:

Well, not the first poster here (SOMEone beat me to that with a worthless Cubs story) ;)

    LEST GO BUCS !!!!

  3. Jim S. says:

He, DK, are you up there?

I don’t know if you noticed, but there seem to be a lot of new names posting here lately. I think you need to get out in front of this thing. It is getting crowded down here in the blog room. Could be time to call a contractor and look into an addition. Pretty popular place now.

  4. theplanisworking says:

It really is crowded! I take up half of the space (literally), so we need a few more rooms to not have people suffocate!

  5. Lad9 says:

Did you see the Lunatic HOF nomination on the game thread last night? Playoffs had a second.. Thanks

  6. Jandy says:

    **** A T T E N T I O N ***

    THANKS! :)

  7. Jandy says:

Haha, we just need to include your pond, Hippo, my friend :)

  8. Bizrow says:

Yes I did John Challis, I’ll put him on tonight, great selection, thanks

  9. Bizrow says:

+ 1, thanks, Jandy, we’re at 365 confirmed locations, what do you say we get over 400 before the trade deadline?

  10. theplanisworking says:

I guess I should leave , so they wont be frightened away by me, huh?

  11. Jandy says:

We gotta try for it, Biz.

Hipposter, you don’t skeer anyone, so perish the thought, you sweetie! :*

  12. theplanisworking says:

  13. theplanisworking says:

    Ever seen a Hippo blush?
    I just did.

  15. JohninOshkosh says:

Doesn’t your son live in the great city of Austin, Texas ? I noticed it wasn’t on your list posted last night.

Actually he lives outside of Austin, but I will check, thanks, am thinking Cedar Lake or something like that.

  18. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Thanks BIZ

  19. Bizrow says:

Gotta take the sucker bet and bet 100 NN on a big WWWWWWW

    Thanks, Playoffs

  20. theplanisworking says:

    I am out for a bit……….
    Go Bucs! (and Hippos).

  21. KJX says:

    50 ND

  22. Playoffs by 2012 says:

You’ve actually done well this month.
May even break even for the month.
    I’ll schedule the parade.

  23. Bizrow says:

    + 1

I just wanna catch AW ;-)

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

    Too easy. Shoot higher.

  25. cmat0829 says:

lets go 100 on the crazy, can’t explain it, WIN

  26. Dom says:

    100 on NO DECISION!!!!!!!

  27. Lad9 says:

No, thank you Biz. That post is one of the main things that makes this blog such a great place and it is very much appreciated!

  28. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  29. Bizrow says:

Welker sent to AAA to activate Gomez

  30. Arriba Wilver says:

  31. JohninOshkosh says:

I hear a bong gurgling somewhere. Pink Floyd in the house.

    50/Loss, please.

    I thank you.

  32. Frankie says:

Give me 50 on the win…..

    Thanks Playoff

  33. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Insert Tim Lincecum / Chris Perez joke here…

  34. Lad9 says:

Going to double down today. Lets put 100 on the win for Jeanmar. We have had much stranger things happen in Buccoland lately than Jeanmar beating the King…. DId I really just type that? What odds would we have given on Jeanmar even being on the team three months ago? Thanks Playoffs. Go Buccos – sweep again!

  35. JohninOshkosh says:

Well, they are playing in Seattle…..

  36. Bill Born says:

    100 on the loss line
    Hope I’m wrong!

  37. Jim S. says:

I was going to post early this morning about Marte, but never got to it.

I am the first to admit, I wish he had better plate discipline. I wish he drew more walks. I wish he was not so susceptible to the low outside off-speed stuff from RHP.

Other than that, what an amazing athlete and player! And he seems to play with such a joy! Love that smile!

    * He can hit with power – as evidenced by the 2 lasers over the LC wall last night. Way over the wall, btw. I believe 20 HR are coming from him, if not this year then next.

    * He can absolutely fly. I thought Cutch was the fastest player I had ever seen from home to 3rd. Marte may be just as fast, if not faster. He has 4 triples in less than a week, and 7 for the year. He may steal 45 bases.

    * Not many leadoff hitters have his combination of speed and power. Closing in on 30 XBH by the midway point.

    * He makes plays in LF look so easy sometimes that I don’t think we always realize how good he is on defense. He has a terrific arm, and he runs down balls to the left field line with such ease.

If anyone is still looking for reasons why the Bucs are better than last year, I would point you in the direction of Mr. Marte as a very big reason.

  38. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Playoffs:

I will gladly lose another 100 Hippos on the WIN for today!

    Thanks !

    Go Bucs!

  39. Jandy says:

  40. radio wave says:

At playoffs: I will take 50 on the note decision. Thank you

  41. Nate83 says:

I’m a big fan of Marte. His ability to put pressure on the other team’s defense and take away hits in the field alone make him valuable. I think his floor is set as being a slightly above average major league outfielder. His ceiling all depends on that discipline at the plate. He is still very early in his career and he could definately mature as a hitter. That being said players like vladimir guerrero had good/great careers with no plate discipline.

  42. Jason81 says:

Eh, why not…50 on a WIN, please!

  43. Karen22 says:

100 on the WIN! A big WELCOME BACK, Jeanmar!

  44. Karen22 says:

Yessirree! It’ll be fun to watch Marte progress. Marte Partay!!

  45. JD says:

100 on the Win please. Lets Go Bucs!

  46. pattonbb says:

I’d like to put 100 sticks of juniper incense on the WIN.

  47. Matt hoffman says:

    100 on the “W” please.

  48. TCB says:

75 on the L. Hurts to say but Jenmar vs. King Felix -mismatch, on paper.

  49. Joey Mellons says:

    100 on the win.

  50. 21sthebest says:

Aaron Hernandez being charged with murder.

  51. 21sthebest says:

    Dan Zangrilli’s reaction:

    “Crazy stuff.”

  52. TCB says:

I’m a long time lurker from Huntington, WV.

  53. Nate83 says:

King Felix is so good and everything except my heart says Gomez winning is ulikely but I just can’t imagine even thinking about the Pirates losing at this point so I will put 50 on the win. First time this year I have went with what I wanted to happen instead of what I think will happen.

  54. steelercrazy says:

    100 no-decision.

  55. Playoffs by 2012 says:

  56. Jandy says:

hey Matt, did you see our post close to the top at 1:40pm about hometown listings?

  57. Bizrow says:

That makes sense, what with all the things that went on the past several days.

Choosing to have your house scrubbed down right after the murder, kinda gave something away….

  58. Jandy says:

it *IS* crazy stuff. The guy has/had a job playing football for the NFL. Why would you throw all that away?

  59. Jim S. says:

True, Nate. Guerrero & Soriano immediately come to mind. Guerrero being a great player, and Soriano a very good hitter, overall.

I bet there are good players who never get 3 XBH in one game

  60. 21sthebest says:

Because you care deeply about Tim Tebow and want him to have a shot at tight end?

  61. Nate83 says:

Who would have thought that Gronk wouldn’t be the Tight End making the worse decisions on the Patriots team. What a shame. It’s unfortunate when things like this happen and somebody had to lose a life and others a loved one.

  62. Jim S. says:

Kind of figured he had a lot to hide when he had his house “scrubbed.” Seems like an odd thing for an innocent guy to do at that point, as that would make everyone suspicious. On the other hand, if you are guilty maybe that is his only chance – destroying the evidence. I guess we’ll find out in time.

  63. theplanisworking says:

    along with……………………..

    smashing your house security system,
    smashing your cell phone,
    hiring top-notch murder attorneys……………

Just another shameful episode in todays NFL………….
    the New Felon League.

  64. Bizrow says:

Reports are he had a fight with the guy at a strip club a couple of days before the murder.

Some of those guys never realize how fortunate and blessed they are. Seems as though sometimes the success just makes them stupider.

Now, me, I’ve gotten stupid without the need for or benefit of any success……

  65. Nate83 says:

It really is unexplainable Jandy. I guess some people are just born a certain way and don’t factor in things like that while making decisions. No other explanation as to why Hernandez and many other athletes do the things they do. They have what many could never even imagine. They take god’s gifts and throw them all away.

  66. Jim S. says:

I admit that I thought he was close to worthless when they got him, judging by last year. I thought it was a case of NH over-valuing someone from his old organization. But, I didn’t know that: a) he is still very young; b) he throws ground balls, and that formula works for our organization; and c) he has a pretty good arm.

  67. Put yourself in harm’s way and it usually hits you.

Probably wouldn’t have happened to him if he was in church instead of that club.

  68. Jandy says:

    now 21, don’t be jealous :*

  69. stuart66 says:

Playoffs, Please give me 100 on the “no Decision” for Jeanmar.

  70. Jandy says:

Yes, Nate, it just blows my mind.

  71. Jandy says:

Spunky, all that withstanding, church or club. At some point, common sense SHOULD prevail. obviously his ego was larger than anything else that SHOULD have taken precedence over his actions. Sad.

  72. Jim S. says:

    Yeah, really sad.

  73. Jandy says:

Ahhh….the SADDEST thing in this whole mess….someone lost his life. His family has to suffer.

  74. theplanisworking says:

Jandy, I think Matt gave his a while ago.

Or, I could be delirious again……

  75. Dom says:

Why would the Pats want Tebow to be TE when they have Michael Hoomanawanui.

  76. Ermine says:

    100 on No Decision

  77. Jandy says:

eh…I suffer from CRS (Can’t Remember Sugar) so I really couldn’t say.

  78. Nate83 says:

That is funny you said Soriano because I was going to mention him and Ichiro as other examples but left the post short because I was asked to help with something.

  79. 21sthebest says:

This doesn’t make me look down on the NFL.

  80. Jandy says:

ehhh….I suffer from CRS (Can’t Remember Sugar), so I really couldn’t say. Please don’t hold it against me, Matt, or anyone else for that matter!

  81. theplanisworking says:

Biz, if what the report says is true………….

Hernandez had a FIANCE. Why was he at a strip club??

The guy he killed (supposedly) was dating his fiance’s sister. What was he doing there?

And the solution to a fight at a strip club (or anywhere), is MURDER???

And I thought I was the one that was mentally slow…………..

  82. Nate83 says:

Dom I think you had something in your mouth when you said that last name. Hoomana-who????

  83. True. And he made the choice to do what he did, whatever that may be.

  84. Jandy says:

Dom, 21 is just razzing me, hon. He’s being funny :)

  85. cosmo says:

let me have 100 units on a win for Jeanmar, please.

  86. Jandy says:

Hahaha Nate, Dom mentioned that name in the other thread today, and I said….Is that name for real????

  87. Jandy says:

Roger Goodell makes me look down on the NFL

  88. tdb1977 says:

Put me down for 100 on the No decison. Thanks as always Playoffs

  89. Jandy says:

Hippo, I told ya sweetie, you don’t fool us :P

  90. Arriba Wilver says:

Maybe he was at a strip club BECAUSE he had a fiancé.

  91. Jandy says:

This one is tough I’ll tell ya Playoffs.

I’m going to go against my heart and say 100 JG units on a No Decision.

  92. theplanisworking says:

    That’s nice.

Others dont share your viewpoint. For the record, I dont look down on the NFL either, but I think the criminals in the league make Mr. Morality, Roger Goofdell look silly.

  93. Jandy says:

  94. theplanisworking says:

Is that like “Take My Wife, Please”??

  95. cosmo says:

    so true

  96. theplanisworking says:

CRS === Crooked Roof Syndrome. This is what happens when I sit on your roof. ;)

  97. 21sthebest says:

“And I thought I was the one that was mentally slow…………..”

Stop throwing softballs like that to me plan.

  98. Mike A. says:

Does that mean we should look down on the NHL because of Gary Bettman?

  99. Jandy says:

    LOL! ya nut!

  100. Bizrow says:

Whats that old saying? Nothing good ever happens after midnight?

    Ain’t that the truth…

  101. theplanisworking says:

But your windows are cleaner than mine, 21

  102. Jandy says:

No, that means we should look down on Gary Bettman. besides, he’s short :X

  103. theplanisworking says:

  104. Jandy says:

    for sure!

  105. Bizrow says:

Hippo, seems like more all the time, you see stuff going on and just have to shake your head…

But it always has happened, we just hear about it more often now adays

  106. Jandy says:

Boys! take it outside to the pond!

  107. theplanisworking says:

Mike A, if you are new, welcome!

For the record, Bettman would be a midget next to me.
For the record part 2, he IS a mental midget. :)

  108. theplanisworking says:

Mom T, if you would stop rockin back and forth in your seat, we might ! ;)

  109. Jandy says:

Yeah, maybe we’re jumping on the guilty wagon here without a trial by jury…but man, the things he did make him look really bad.

  110. Jandy says:

Keep it up and I’ll run you over with my Hover Round ;)

  111. Jandy says:

Mike A, of the FF fame?

  112. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, Ernie Holmes comes to mind.

I think the pro sports leagues just mimic society as a whole.

  113. Arriba Wilver says:

I always loved this line from Jackie Mason: Jewish wives don’t believe in sex after marriage. (But you have to hear it with his voice)

  114. Jandy says:

it’s amazing what one can learn, eh, Jim?

  115. theplanisworking says:

    Oh Goodie!!!!

You can get your Hover Round, I can sit on you, and we can go in circles !!!

  116. 21sthebest says:

That’s nice. Others probably don’t share your viewpoint. Players in the NFL whether they’ve committed crimes or not have nothing to do with how I view Roger Goodell.

  117. Jandy says:

    Woah! lol

  118. Jandy says:

    Hipposter, you’re a goofball!

  119. NMR says:

Ichiro strikes out at less than half the rate Marte does. The plate discipline issue isn’t just about drawing walks.

Just to put a scope on Marte’s current hitting profile, it has been six years since a single major league outfielder has qualified with less than a 5% BB rate and more than a 20% K rate.

The last two guys to match Marte’s current pace also happen to be my two favorite – optomistic – comps: Adam Jones and Carlos Gomez.

  120. Jandy says:

    Dang, 2 outs already

  121. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Ah heck with it, going against my gut.

    100 on the Win.

  122. Jandy says:

    make that three.

  123. 21sthebest says:

That’s why this Jew married Catholic. Catholic girls only start much too late.

  124. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Pacman? Not a good comp.

    Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  125. theplanisworking says:

That’s nice. Others dont share your viewpoint again. How you view Roger Goofdell doesnt effect others on how they view Roger Goofdell.

    But thanks anyway!!! :)

  126. Jandy says:

Boys! take it outside to the pond!!!!!!!!!!

  127. 21sthebest says:

Yeah no kidding. People have all kinds of different viewpoints. I thought that was obvious.

  128. Jandy says:

    And Gomez strikes out Seager

  129. theplanisworking says:

You do a good job as our out-of-town scoreboard. ;)

  130. Jandy says:

eh…gotta go here in a minute or two. And I’m just looking on the link Dejan has ^^ there. Need to get some contracts out before I leave for the day.
    Go Bucs!

  131. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Is Hernandez and the other guy the first married/attached guys to be at a strip club?

The strip club or the association of it, has nothing to do with the fact that somebody was murdered.

  132. theplanisworking says:

So, how about that Pirates FO??? :D

  133. Jim S. says:

Sure is. Jeanmar was definitely contributing in a big way before he got injured. It would be nice if he picked right back up.

  134. Jandy says:

OK scoreboard messed up. Bucs up again, and Jones and Pedro on base with no outs :)

  135. Nate83 says:

Hits are going to be hard to come by today. If this guy pitched for almost any other team you would hear a lot more about him. He is every bit as good as Kershaw, Price and Verlander. I think those 4 are ahead of the rest of the pitchers in the league by a good margin.

I hope Cole becomes that for us but only time will tell.

  136. Jandy says:

And Walker pops out..infield fly rule.

  137. Bizrow says:

A good reason to never clean your house

I’ll have to remember that one…

  138. Jandy says:

  139. Nate83 says:

Scoreboard can be messed up as long as the information eventually given is good news like that.

  140. Jandy says:

Doesn’t take away from the fact that it wasn’t a great place to be.

  141. Jandy says:

Now Gaby strikes out on Foul tip. :sigh:

  142. Jim S. says:

I pointed out that he is a sucker for that low and away off-speed stuff from RHP, NMR. And I know he also swings at a lot of balls, which gets him behind in counts a lot.

But, he does so many freakishly good things that I also don’t want to overlook them.

Not everybody profiles as good in every category. I’ll take his defense over maybe any OF in MLB within 2 years.

  143. Jandy says:

And I gotta go for real. Send the good vibes to Seattle guys! Go Bucs!

  144. Jim S. says:

Maybe they are struggling with fitting his name on a jersey.

  145. Arriba Wilver says:

Lighten up, Ryan. I got this covered already.

  146. Jim S. says:

That is exactly the saying, Biz.

  147. theplanisworking says:

where I come from, strip clubs are no good. Drugs, fights, murder………… just not a good scene.

Obviously something happened at that strip club to lead, directly, or indirectly, to Hernandez’s actions, resulting in a murder.

  148. Ghost says:

    Plus many +’s!

  149. Jim S. says:

I was reading in his voice, Arriba.

  150. Dom says:

I heard that Hernandez is being held w/o bail and there was a surveillance camera that caught him on tape with guns on the night of the event.

  151. Bizrow says:

He’s also getting sued by someone else for shooting him in the eye or some such thing

  152. Arriba Wilver says:

He had guns? Well, THAT narrows it down. :-)

  153. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Ok. Aw, I am late to the party, my bad.

  154. Brendan Ryan is at short and just fielded Mercer’s grounder.

I have to confess that I have hated Brendan Ryan ever since they gave him the shortstop job in Seattle over Jack Wilson.

    I can’t help it . . . . . . I will always like Jack Wilson!

  155. Arriba Wilver says:

    Sorry, apparently I didn’t. :-)

  156. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Not necessarily at the strip club, nothing much obvious about this case, other than someone lost their life.

  157. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    I might’ve missed it…

  158. Arriba Wilver says:

  159. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Usually they are about having fun. I’m not one that frequents those places, but I have been to a couple and always just for a good time.

  160. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    IN THE FACE!!!!! WTH??

  161. theplanisworking says:

    Is he in baseball anywhere?

  162. Dom says:

I don’t believe that one is true. That particular victim seems more like someone attempting free money. But it could be true for all I know.

  163. Brandie says:

Good afternoon, all. Hope the genial mood of the blog is sustainable.

  164. Arriba Wilver says:

Jack’s retired. Announced it on DK’ radio show. But not sure if he is doing anything within baseball. Seemed he always talked about being able to see his kids grow up.

  165. theplanisworking says:

    Hiya Muppet!

    How is ya? :)

  166. Milo Hamilton says:

Jeanmar really makes it a point to load it up for breaking pitches.

  167. theplanisworking says:

    That is nice to hear.

Jack and Freddie were two of the good guys.

  168. pattonbb says:

He was one of my favorites too Groat.

I’d be willing to bet we’ll see him hanging around Pirate City in a couple years.

  169. Brandie says:

I am okay. Good to talk to ya, my man Plan!

  170. Milo Hamilton says:

By the way, Fred has scored again for Brazil. I don’t know why, but I get such a kick out of a Brazilian guy named Fred.

There is KMart commercial of a family with a swimming pool enjoying the day. A hippo is in the swimming pool as well. Made me think of you.

  172. theplanisworking says:

    You are missed, Brandie.

You bring a sense of sunshine to this blog……

  179. theplanisworking says:

I will have to look for that commercial. Never knew we were KMart type of Hippos. :)

  180. theplanisworking says:

    Welcome Back !! :)

  181. Brandie says:

  182. Brandie says:

Oh yes…Hippos are quite cultured. Thanks for the sunshine compliment.

  183. Milo Hamilton says:

So we’re saying they had no idea it was going to rain ?

  184. Lad9 says:

Hey there Brandie! How goes it? And guess who put Neil on the bench on his fantasy team becasue he was against the King ? Yep, Mr. over-think it. But I could care less as long as it helps our Buccos.

  185. NMR says:

    Why so defensive, Jim?

I gave him an Adam Jones and Carlos Gomez comp.

    That’s incredibly high raise.

  186. NMR says:

  187. Lad9 says:

  188. Good call, General!

I’m not sure Huntington ever liked Jack Wilson though.

No question, Jack loves the Pirates! Still!!

  189. Lad9 says:

In Seattle? Nah, they would never figure that… :)

  190. Brandie says:

Some times it bees that way, as my dad is fond of saying.

  191. Milo Hamilton says:

    Stupid shift.

  192. {musical notes} “Oh, it never rains in Southern Se-e-attle.”

  193. theplanisworking says:

    You are welcome.

The only culture I get is when i eat some yogurt. ;)

  194. theplanisworking says:

Lad, thanks for the +, but Hippos cannot count that high. ;)

  195. JRay3 says:

Poor throw by Gaby on what should have been double play ball to get out of inning instead results in M’s first run of game off Gomez.

  196. Brandie says:

A little too much English by Sanchez.

  197. Milo Hamilton says:

All this because of that idiotic shift. Inning should have been over 1 run and 12 pitches ago.

  198. JRay3 says:

A lot of needless pitches being added to the pitch count this half inning….might cost Gomez a shot to get through five, with Wilson warming in pen.

  199. Milo Hamilton says:

Throw was right on the bag. Mercer got in the way & tipped it away from Pedro.

  200. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Right, that’s not a good thing…i’m by no means saying the dude is innocent, he’s guilty of something, for sure.

  201. Milo Hamilton says:

    17 extra pitches in all.

  202. JohninOshkosh says:

    …but, Groat, don’t they warn ya ?
    It pours, man, it pours.

  203. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Drinks cost too much……..that’s my excuse.

  204. Lad9 says:

I am sure they could (I have developed a healthy respect for the species recently), but why bother? Not likely to see four digits worth of other hippos at one time anyhow.

  205. Arriba Wilver says:

Yeah, those $1 bills add up. ;-)

  206. theplanisworking says:

  207. Lad9 says:

I was thinking the same thing. They just changed the error to Mercer btw.

  208. JRay3 says:

I stand corrected, yes Mercer and Alvarez both too close to bag and confusion on taking the throw.

  209. Arriba Wilver says:

He’ll be pulled by 75 pitches regardless.

  210. Milo Hamilton says:

I can’t blame any of the players there. Show me where they practice that one in Spring Training.

  211. JRay3 says:

Bucs now 0-6 with RISP today, have had a couple of chances.

  212. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Assumption or knowledge?

Or did Clint Hurdle’s old friend Jim Tracy call him?

  213. theplanisworking says:

    Cant afford that against Felix.

  214. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Good pitching beats good hitting everyday. I’m kinda suprised that they were able to get 2 on the board against him.

I hope nobody expects a continuation of the offensive outpour today.

    Would be nice though.

  215. JRay3 says:

He’s at 77 now, probably trying to get him through fifth, but I would imagine short leash…quick first out.

  216. NMR says:

Hurdle has actually come out and said that Gomez turns back into a pumpkin at 75 pitches.

  217. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    4 pitches, 2 outs.

That’s how you extend your outing…..see what happens for the 3rd though.

  218. Milo Hamilton says:

    He thinks he’s Karstens.

  219. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Thanks, I haven’t had a chance to read anything about it. Wasn’t trying to be a SA about it.

  220. JRay3 says:

And he gets through the fifth at just 81 pitches, another stellar outing by Gomez, more so in his first game back from DL.

  221. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  222. JRay3 says:

A’s up 4-0 on Reds in 6th as they go for sweep of Cincy, hard to believe we have moved 2.5 up on the Reds and are 8.5 games up for playoff spot, nice little run.

Next up taking top spot in the Central.

  223. Brandie says:

Gotta be more careful out there!

  224. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

The A’s are up 4-0 on the Reds through 6.

Can someone please beat the Cards???

  225. Milo Hamilton says:

Wonder if AJ ever told A Rod to shut the ____ up ? Or sit the ____ down ?

  226. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Nevermind, they’re still playing Houston.

  227. Arriba Wilver says:

Clint has said more than once that Jeanmar’s history is he falters after #75. He went 79 on May 1. Otherwise it’s been less than 75. With coming off a rehab I can’t imagine that would change. But we’ll see.

  228. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I thoght it was awesome for Cashman to say that…probably shouldn’t have to the media, considering he’s supposed to be a little more professional than that.

  229. Arriba Wilver says:

  230. Brandie says:

Someone needs to put that pompous, one dimensional, self important wind bag in his place. Having talent does not make one a better person. What an over paid loser.

  231. Brandie says:

A-Rod…Otherwise known as Captain Jag off!

  232. theplanisworking says:

    A-Fraud………. Worse living through chemistry.

  233. Arriba Wilver says:

    Hoka Hey?

  234. Milo Hamilton says:

Prior to the homer, all 5 pitches were in the strike zone. The count was 3-2.

  235. Brandie says:

Can one have a contract voided for being a schmuck?

  236. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Welp, so much for Jeanmar’s nice outing..

Pirates need to get to the BP to win this game.

  237. theplanisworking says:

No. Jagr has done it for years. ;)

  238. Brandie says:

Well, we knew that. Jagr…Jag-off, not a coincidence!

  239. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Not for being a schmuck, but probably for fraud.

  240. Brandie says:

Just ask the guy who was supposed to be Pitt’s football coach before Paul Chryst.

  241. Milo Hamilton says:

3 called strikes to Snider, 1 in the strike zone. No question they’re getting the short end back there today.

  242. Milo Hamilton says:

The schmuck continues to be the AD. With a contract extension.

  243. NMR says:

As if Felix needed the help.

  244. theplanisworking says:

Most MLB umps dont know a strike zone from an Auto Zone.

  245. Brandie says:

Ah yes…the consequence of lowered expectations.

  246. Brandie says:

    Or a construction zone.

  247. theplanisworking says:

    or a Twilight Zone. ;)

  248. BFD says:

anyone else not buying Nuttings contention that the Cole decision will have nothing to do with money and that Nutting is like “any other fan”?

one nice 1/2 season with potential does not erase 20 years of stink

  249. Brandie says:

How did the strike zone become such a subjective nebulous thing anyway?

  250. Brandie says:

And it is a deep, rotten stink.

  251. War Horse says:

Relief pitcher, Wilhelmsen, has lost his killer stuff lately.

  252. Karen22 says:

DRAT!! He should have won…First run should not have happened.

  253. NMR says:

By empowering umps with this antiquated human-error-is-part-of-the-game state of mind.

They know they’ll never be held accountable because dinosaurs still run the game.

  254. theplanisworking says:

Come on, BFD, you know the FO normally speaks with forked tongue!

I dont think Nutting is any other fan.
He has too much $$$ to be one. ;)

  255. Milo Hamilton says:

It is amazing that the Pirates have been able to accumulate the fine record they have with Andrew McCutchen being nothing more than an innocent bystander.

  256. theplanisworking says:

The Umps wanted to be the show, instead of doing said jobs. In other words, the ‘look at me” stuff.

    Clowns answering to clowns.

  257. theplanisworking says:

    Embrace the Suck?

  258. Karen22 says:

Home plate ump simply STINKS today. Tired of this nonsense.

  259. Karen22 says:

He’s having a bad day (one of many, actually) and a weird year so far. Still waiting to see the Cutch we know and love…consistency.

  260. Brandie says:

Look at me moments on the part of the umps, then.

  261. pattonbb says:

Mazarro not helping his trade value.

  262. Milo Hamilton says:

I guess bringing in the lefty you had warming up to pitch to all these lefties would just make too much sense ?

  263. pattonbb says:

I stand corrected. Mazarro got the job done.

  264. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Can’t argue balls and strikes, strictly interprutation.

  265. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Be thankful CB Bucknor was last night……worst ump in MLB.

  266. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Proves that one man can’t do it all……….but its kinda nice to be complaining about a guy batting .287

  267. pattonbb says:

I hate the sacrifice bunt. But at least we now know that Walker can do it. He might be the only one.

Pedro on 2nd with 1 out.

  268. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

I love the bunt, especially in this situation. Had to do it.

  269. pattonbb says:

My opinion might be different if I could remember seeing it work this year. I know the situation calls for it, but Walker was 2-3 with a hr. Let the hitters hit.

  270. War Horse says:

That’s easy to judge but somewhat out of line. He has his bad days and down periods, but Cutch has hit .280 over the last month (28 for 100), has a .365 OBP, a .400 slugging average and an OPS of .765.

With that go 14 RBIs and his usual defensive abilities in CF and 3 stolen bases.

He may not be carrying the team as he often has, but he’s contributing like the pro he is.

  271. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

This situation, you play for the run. You dont need a big inning, you need a single run.

I know that NH has done for that day and you hate to take the bat out of his hand, but the situation calls for it, unless it’s Cutch(though his speed might beat one out) or Pedro.

No offense, but NH wasn’t exactly tearing the cover off the ball before today either.

  272. War Horse says:

    Mercer atones!

  273. pattonbb says:

    I totally agree.

LOL….as I typed this Mercer makes it work!!!

I love it when I’m wrong.

  274. Barmes anyone?

    Mercer for Vice President.

  275. Lad9 says:

I almost always hate it, but when you only need one it sometimes make sense. Like this time. Way to go Jordy!

  276. JRay3 says:

Great piece of hitting by Mercer to take it right back up middle for two out RBI and retake lead.

  277. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

And it worked. You win some, you lose some on that.

Jordy might not have even gotten an AB during that inning if they didn’t lay down the bunt…

  278. pattonbb says:

    4-2 Buccos

Snider scores on a passed ball.

  279. JRay3 says:

Strike out and wild pitch, I’ll take it, two run lead for the good guys.

  280. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Is to be wrong in baseball. The right moves don’t always work of course.

  281. theplanisworking says:

    Barmes who?

  282. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

wait, wait, wait……did he score on the wild pitch, strike 3?

Guessing he scored before they got Marte out at first? Stupid GAMECAST.

  283. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    I personally, love small ball.

I believe in putting pressure on the defense, make them make the tough play, sometimes a bunt is a tough play. Could lead to a bigger inning.

  284. pattonbb says:

    marte was safe at 1st

  285. Brandie says:

It ain’t over til Paula Deen sings!

  286. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    OK, thanks.

    GAMECAST showed 3 outs……..and RM to bat…

  287. Lad9 says:

    And sobs. Good one!

  288. Milo Hamilton says:

  289. Milo Hamilton says:

    Righties hit .243 against Melancon.
    Lefties only .154.

  290. Lad9 says:

Was worried that Marte was going to jog to first and get thrown out. He picked it up partway down. But it brings up a sore point for me. Why is it so hard for a professional baseball player to sprint all out for 90 feet? It never used to be. The only guy I see do it every time is Cutch.

  291. theplanisworking says:

Now, now, dont want her insults.
If we want a fat girl singing, make it Adele.

  292. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    I don’t get it

  293. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Which avarages about, Clint Barmes BA, we all know he can’t hit…

  294. JRay3 says:

Behind a nice return on the mound from Jeanmar Gomez, a Neil Walker HR, two runs in tje 9th and a Mark Melancon save the Pirates sweep the two game set in Seattle sinking the M’s 4-2 and there was nooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Bucs are a season best 18 above .500 at 48-30, winners of a season best six straight. The Pirates finish the nine game road swing 7-2 and with their 16th series of year and second consecutive sweep. The Pirates are now 3.5 games up on the Reds an just a half game back of the Cards for first in the Central.

After the off day the Pirates return to action when they begin a series with the Brewers at PNC with Gerrit Cole getting the call in the opener.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  295. Lad9 says:

Raise it! 18 games over .500 and a west coast double sweep. Wow this is fun!

  296. theplanisworking says:

    Raise the Jolly Hippo!!!

But someone come back later and lower me, ok?

  297. War Horse says:

Looking at the video, it was apparent that Marte did not realize that the ball had bounced well away from the catcher and that he had a chance to make first. As soon as he saw where the ball was, he took off. Unfair criticism of Marte.

  298. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  299. radio wave says:

Do we dare get optimistic? It is only June 26. But it is starting to look good. And the Brewers are starting a first time rookie making his MLB debut on Friday against tcole.

  300. Brandie says:

Reds blanked 5-0. Buccos 4.5 up on ‘em = Sustainable.

  301. TJ says:

Incredible; the Pirates are 18 games over .500. Last time they saw a record like that it cost $3000 for a desk top computer, AOL was pay by the hour for internet, and the founder of facebook was still learning how to share like a good boy.

  302. TJ says:

Did anyone happen to see that the Cubs designated Carlos Marmol for assignment today? Talk about falling apart. Jeez

  303. Bizrow says:

    Thanks TCB, welcome

  304. War Horse says:

Once again, as seems to be the standard this season, the Bucs’ win was the result of excellent (not just good) pitching. Gomez was great for as long as he could last in his comeback from injury. That Wilson gave up a home run in relief was not out of the ordinary in that park. (The Bucs’ 5 homers yesterday were their most for one game this season.)

Melancon may be the new 9th inning closer if Jason Grilli doesn’t get back to his old stuff. (What a wise decision to let Mark instead of Jason close this one.)

But, apart from a very tough chance on Gabby’s throw to Pedro at 2nd base for the attempted DP (which led to a Seattle run), the fielding was again flawless. It was so good to see Mercer make up for his awkward try to intercept the Sanchez throw to Alvarez by getting the game-winning hit in the 9th. Pedro made up for his earlier bad throw to first, which Gabby stretched hard to make an out, with his sensational pick and throw in the ninth. It seems to me that these Bucs seem to prefer to battle back in the final innings rather than put games away for the closers early on.

But this one, as nerve wraking as it was for a few innings, was a pleasure to watch.

Funny thing, though. After the misplay in the bottom of the 4th on, I was expecting the Bucs to blow it. I hope it doesn’t take 20 years to turn this normal reaction around, in part because I’m not likely to live that long.

  305. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

He doesn’t have to carry the team like he has……..

  306. Bizrow says:

    + 1

  307. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Are you seriously concerned about Grilli? Did you really expect him to save every opportunity?

Yes, MM is a good fall back guy, some closing experience, but to say “if” Grilli doesn’t get back to his old stuff, is a little premature.

BTW, this might be Grilli’s “Old stuff”

  308. Bizrow says:

Living long, I worry about that too War Horse

    I’m 63

    Where do you reside?

  309. Thundercrack says:

    We are good

  310. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

As of now TC, those 3 words sum them up…

  311. tomp says:

Due to the massive rain/storm in the st petersburg area during the bottom of the 9th, my direct tv went out.

Does anyone know the explanation why Grilli did not finish this game?.
Certainly, that one shaky outing sunday couldn’t lead to a changing of the guard at closer, can it?.

I just hope he is not hurt.

  312. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

No way it will change…my guess is rest.

Ah, St. Pete and rain storms……

  313. Ray Searage is on the postgame right now.

He said Grilli’s legs were a little tired, a little “heavy.’ Said they decided to stay away from him today, with off game tomorrow, to allow him to recup.

  314. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

One thing to keep in mind, and I’m just throwing this out there, but what about the effects the body takes from the travel? Especially from one coast to the other.

I have no problem with MM stepping in today. Grilli doesn’t have to get every save or opportunity. That’s an added bonus that MM brings.

Disclaimer: I use MM because 1. I like M&M’s and 2. I really can’t spell his last name with a cut and a paste.

  315. Karen22 says:

This is INSANE! Bring on the next game!

    Smilin’ over this one!

  316. Bizrow says:

    I’m thinking

    CH chose well.

    My two cents anyways

  317. Karen22 says:

  323. tdb1977 says:

Awwww, man. I was going to leave the hippo up until after the Cardinal’s game so all of their fans can see who is tied for first place with them since they are losing to the Astro’s currently.

  324. theplanisworking says:

Retired to rural England. Living here plays havoc with my sleeping schedule, trying to watch the Bucs’ games live, especially night games on the West Coast.
