NEW YORK — Looking ahead to first pitch …

Event: 15th All-Star Futures Game, U.S. vs. World

Pirates’ participants: CF Gregory Polanco, 2B Dilson Herrera

Time: 2:05 p.m.

Site: Citi Field

TV, radio: ESPN2, MLB.com (Internet), MLB Network Radio XM 89

Twitter: @MLBFutures

Here’s the official live box score. I’m here and will write off this event and more for Monday’s Trib.

UPDATE 11:52 p.m.: Polanco is in the starting lineup for the World, batting seventh. For those of you with long — and bitter — memories, Miguel Sano of the Twins is batting cleanup. And based on the BP I just saw him take, you’ll want to watch.

I’ll post videos of some of my conversations with Polanco and Herrera in a bit.

12:01 p.m.: Here are the vids …

Comments

  1. Patrick(ri) says:

I read somewhere that Sano has really bulked up, is no longer a flashy SS, but a good fielding, power-hitting 3rd baseman. It will be fun to verify that image.

  2. Drew71 says:

    I’m not watching.

    - Long And Bitter Drew

  3. Lad9 says:

Have fun DK. Would love to attend a Futures Game one of these days.

  4. Thundercrack says:

    We’ve switched our bitterness

It is now on David Wright

  5. radio wave says:

    DK:
Glad to see you are covering this event. It is ashame the game competes with regular mlb games. They should play this on Monday, hr derby Tuesday, asg Wednesday.

  6. JoeyBats says:

LOL …I can be bitter about BOTH……………Sano & Wright.

  7. Drew71 says:

    I can.

And Sid Bream. Neil O’Donnell. Thunder. Barry Bonds. Dave Littlefield. Ray Lewis. Turkey Jones.

  8. Drew71 says:

    And Richard Nixon.

For his Mythical National Championship trophy.

  9. You forgot Urban Meyer.

  10. pattonbb says:

    and Jim Tressel

  11. Tressel didn’t wrong Drew. He hurt himself more than anyone.

Urban did when he quit on Florida, only to come back to his “dream job” at OSU.

  12. Drew71 says:

    No bitterness.

A man who knew his limits.

    He knew he reached his.

Water finds its own level. So he moved to the shallow end.

  13. Drew71 says:

And besides. With the notable exception of a certain QB, the criminal element thing was wearing thin at Florida.

May as well take that act to where it would be welcome.

  14. Thundercrack says:

Looking at the number of people in the stands = no groupon available for this game

  15. 21sthebest says:

“Miguel Sano of the Twins is batting cleanup. And based on the BP I just saw him take, you’ll want to watch.”

    We talking ’bout batting practice?

  16. doc says:

I cannot understand why no live box score…

I still “sigh” every time I think of Sano replacing Pedro at 3rd in 2015

  17. JoeyBats says:

** wonder if Pedro plays 1B for the Mets?
    .
** ….or if he goes directly to 3B for the Yanks?? :-(

  18. Thundercrack says:

I’ll worry about that after he hits his first home run in the majors

  19. doc says:

just so it isn’t after *every* home run. I worry about ya ma.

    :-)

  20. doc says:

    radio wave for Commissioner!

  21. 21sthebest says:

Sano has 92 errors in 290 games at third in the minors.

  22. Drew71 says:

Move him back to SS. Easier position.

  23. Jandy says:

    ZING!!!!

  24. Jandy says:

BUcs hammering at the right field corner…keep it up guys!

  25. Jandy says:

    C’mon Petey!!!

  26. Jandy says:

    is that worse than Barmes??

  27. Drew71 says:

    Don’t be bitter, Thunder.

    …..

    (21. I think I left something off.)

  28. Jandy says:

    friggin nice pitch…and he looks…:sigh:

  29. 21sthebest says:

    16 errors in 34 games!

    0 as a DH though.

  30. 21sthebest says:

    What is Jones swinging at?

    !@#$%^&*()(*&^%$

  31. Jandy says:

Tha’ts what I wanna know Grrrr!!!!!

  32. John Lease says:

Dilson Herrera looks SO young. I guess that means I’m old?

  33. kr70 says:

Peter Gammons says Sano is the next Bo Jackson.

  34. 21sthebest says:

    Poor Sano.

  35. OZ says:

What makes you think the criminal act will be welcome at OSU?

You realize they self reported all of their violations right?

    Jealousy sucks!

  36. Thundercrack says:

Holy Crap. Gammons need to retire.

Either that or be reminded that he predicted Kris Benson would win a Cy Young Award before he makes another stupid prediction.

A kid in Double A is the next Bo Jackson.

  37. tomp says:

Why doesn’t Espn , or whoever puts a mic in front of this jackass, fit him with a bib?.

It’s only a matter of time before Gammons gets overly excited about a red sox prospect, that he lets out a pool of drool, that will nail the camera, and short it out.

I stopped listening to him, when he said he believed in Dave Littlefield, to get the Pirates back to being a NL powerhouse.
I am sure the comparisons of Julio Inglesias to Ozzie Smith are coming soon.

  38. absolute59 says:

Neil O’Donnell….really….He got us to a Super Bowl

  39. absolute59 says:

How can he be the next Bo Jackson unless he plays Major college football and wins a Heisman trophy?

  40. absolute59 says:

Makes an NFL Pro Bowl game and ML All Star game

  41. Dcpinpgh says:

And got Larry Allen on Martied With Children

  42. absolute59 says:

DO I assume that is in reply to my Neil O’Donnell post and I wanted to hit a like button but I couldn’t on this new/outdated blog….But that made me lol
