  1. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Line #1
Total Combined HITS + WALKS + HBP by Pedro Alvarez in tonight’s game
    Line is 0.5

    Line #2
Total Combined HITS + WALKS + HBP by Andrew McCutchen in tonight’s game
    Line is 0.5

    Line #3
Total OUTS RECORDED by Jason Grilli in tonight’s game
    Line is 1.5

    Line # 4
Total OUTS RECORDED by Mark Melancon in tonight’s game
    Line is 0.5

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. Nate83 says:

It’s nice to see the window doesn’t take a break during the all-star break. I hope you enjoyed the games during the New York series.

I will put 100 on the under for line 3. Thanks.

  3. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Thanks, NATE!

    I love PNC.
    Always a good time.

Even better when the Bucs hang up a couple W’s.

  4. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

BTW, I got my sticker. Forgot to tell you………ITS AWESOME throw back style.

  5. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Did I hear correctly that the Pirates are pushing Jeff Locke’s start back so he can pitch in tonight’s game?

DK: Locke is not pitching. We just talked downstairs for quite a while, and one of the topics was how he’s going to keep himself entertained while not pitching.

  6. Nate83 says:

If that is true that would be a nice reward for him. Imagine going from fighting for the 5th spot in the rotation to playing in the All-star game.

  7. Playoffs by 2012 says:

No problem. Glad you like it!

  8. AJS says:

Seeing as how I thought Melancon was named as a replacement for Locke I don’t think that is the case. On top of that I don’t think Locke’s back miraculously healed in 2 days. They may put him last in the reshuffled rotation to give his back more rest, but I highly doubt it would be so that he can pitch tonight.

  9. Arriba Wilver says:

Yes. I didn’t connect pushing Locke back having anything to do with the All Star game, just giving his back more rest, but can’t say for sure.

  10. kr70 says:

Lambo with 23 Homeruns….why not give him a shot??? Don’t have to give up anyone to see what he can do.

  11. Bizrow says:

I think those are all readily attainable, so

100 on over for all 4 lines

If you put a monkey in front of a piano long enough, he will play Bathoven (sp), thats my theory and I’m sticking to it ;-)

    Thanks Playoffs

  12. Sisyphus says:

No. When they announced that he would be missing his start, the also stated that he would not pitch in the ASG. Melancon is Locke’s replacement.

  13. Bizrow says:

I thought his next start would be this Sunday, did that change?

  14. Arriba Wilver says:

I normally don’t get into lineup criticisms, but with that lineup having Wright batting cleanup?

  15. tdb1977 says:

    line 1 – 100 on the under
    line 2 – 100 on the over
    line 3 – 100 on the under
    line 4 – 100 on the under

Thanks for another great set of lines Playoffs

  16. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    At least Barmes isn’t playing…right?

  17. Arriba Wilver says:

  18. Lad9 says:

On the other side of the coin, I am not sure you could construct a lineup any better than our old skipper did with his nine….

  19. Lad9 says:

    Line 1 – Under
    Lines 2, 3 & 4 – Over

All for 100 star notes please. Thank you. Go Buccos!!

  20. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Thanks. I didn’t read up on anything, just something I was told.

  21. NMR says:

No kidding. Best of luck, Mr. Harvey.

  22. AJS says:

Would require a 40 man move. Not going to happen. They buccos don’t like to mess with the 40 man in season unless it is moving people off of it to make room for an acquired player.

  23. AJS says:

I haven’t heard any different but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was moved to the 5th hole. ESPN has it as Liriano, Burnett, Locke Firday, Saturday, Sunday. Imagine it would go Cole then Morton from there. But I could see them bumping Cole and Morton up to give Locke a little more rest.

  24. Arriba Wilver says:

I saw Locke Friday, then Morton, then Cole at #5.

  25. Arriba Wilver says:

On second thought, that could be something I saw in the paper before Locke was out. It was talking about the order coming out of the All Star break, with Liriano first and Cole last.

  26. stickyweb says:

4 lines in one day! This is where I make my big move (hopefully in the right direction). I’ll take

    100 UNDER line 1
    100 OVER line 2
    100 OVER line 3
    100 UNDER line 4

  27. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    It’s literally a BONANZA!!!

  28. cosmo says:

    line 1 – 100 under
    line 2 – 100 over
    line 3 – 100 over
    line 4 – 100 over

thanks, and keep up the good work with the window!

  29. Chuck H says:

I would favor bringing Lambo up for a trial run. After all. we still need to do something about our pitiful bench. Send some automatic outs elsewhere and get some HITTERS to back up the starters. You all know the ones I’m referring to, don’t you?GO, BUCS!!! Stay
    in the race.

  30. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  31. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    Cool,thanks DK.

DK: Also, yes, Locke affirmed that he’s scheduled to pitch Sunday in Cincinnati.

  32. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Cole last could cut down on his innings, depending on the schedule and I’m not about to look that far in advance for off days and such.

I like the move and he should be the oppositions #5 guy on most occasions.

  33. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

  34. stickyweb says:

So Car Gon’s finger is too hurt to do the HR Derby but fine to start a game the next day? And 3 Rockies are starting? How many would they have if they were at least an average team?

  36. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

Mark Melancon: “When we get to the World Series home field advantage will help out.”

Love that attitude. Everyone plays for that and there is no reason why the Pirates shouldn’t expect to make it there at this point in the season.

  37. Lumbergh says:

    Burbank, CA

  38. Those of us who have suggested that have been shot down pretty quickly, Chuck.

    1. Not on the 40-man
    2. Second run at AAA, failed miserably the first time
    3. Lefty bat and we need righty power
    4. Too old at the grizzly age of almost 25.
    5. Career minor-leaguer
    6. AAAA at best

    And the list goes on.

Although he worked hard over the off-season, as many do that want to succeed, then made the proper adjustments, we are out-numbered, but I agree with you.

  39. Playoffs by 2012 says:

He most assuredly will be up in September.
If he’s got what it takes, he will stick.
    If not, it’s anyone’s guess.

  40. NMR says:

If the 40-man is an issue, September ain’t happening.

That being said, the 40-man excuse is one I don’t particularly care for.

    There is always room.

  41. Arriba Wilver says:

True. You have Inge, obviously. I’m thinking/hoping they might be ready to part ways there, but I also think Wandy’s not far from being put on the 60 day DL. Just a couple that jumped to mind.

  42. Jason says:

any interaction between Cutch and Chapman?

DK: Funny that you ask, because their locker stalls actually are adjacent, albeit separated by a slight wall. But no, I didn’t see them actually interact. Don’t think Aroldis’ English is all that great.

  43. I agree with all 3 of you.

That being said, I think there are 2 or 3 guys ahead of him on the food chain.

    Time will tell.

  44. Frankie says:

    Line 1. 50 on under

    Line 2 50 on over

    Line 3 50 on over

    Line 3 50 on over

  45. bizrow says:

    Thanks for logging in

  46. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

-Cool article on The Game of baseball.

Funny how the chemistry thing was mentioned as well, something I truly believe in also.

This game we watch, played, coach, etc is what its all about, not the name on the back. I hate names on the back of the shirts.

  47. bizrow says:

Cutch is channeling Danny Murtaugh to spit tobacco juice on Chapmans shoes.

Chapman is busy getting his latest GF out of a pickle in their hotel room

  48. I don’t think he and Cutch speak the same language.

    I don’t mean English.

Cutch is the son of a minister.

    Chapman is a son of ( ).

Fill in your own word until Jandy gets here.

  49. Jason says:

    nice witness

  50. motherless goat if two words

  51. nice witness is 2 words, but I like your style, Jason.

  52. Brandie says:

    Darling Playoffs,

Please give me 25 Groupons on the over for all 4 lines. Thank you.

  53. bizrow says:

    + countless, times infinity

  54. bizrow says:

This all star stuff is fine

But when do the Bucs play?

Lets get back to the real stuff

  55. Keith says:

    1. 100 on the UNDER.
    2. 100 on the UNDER.
    3. 100 on the OVER.
    4. 100 on the OVER.

The pitching lines are gimmes: they will mostly pitch an inning each, especially Grilli.

  56. Derek Smith says:

Can’t wait for tonight! Should be a fun game to watch. Oh, and DK, really enjoyed your interview Steigerwald this afternoon. I loved your points about everything to be honest with you. I don’t think I disagreed with a thing you said, which kind of surprised me. I was quite enthralled with it actually. I was so disappointed when it was over. And thanks for turning me onto the Kansas City Star piece today. Good column there.

DK: Thanks, Derek. Whether anyone agrees or not, I’m always happy when a column is read and considered. Or, in this case, an overcaffeinated rant on TribLIVE Radio.

  57. Nor Cal Stlrfanrc (Ryan) says:

    You Da’ Man!!

  58. Keith says:

Today on SportsCenter they showed the “Top 10″ All-Star Game moments. I kept waiting for Dave Parker’s throw from the wall to nail the runner at the plate. He was MVP that year, if I recall. (Well, I’m still waiting.)

  59. pattonbb says:

    Line 1 – 100 UNDER
    Line 2 – 100 OVER
    Line 3 – 100 UNDER
    Line 4 – 100 OVER

  60. pattonbb says:

  61. pattonbb says:

    Great post, Lucky.

Have I mentioned how bad I hate the Reds lately?

  62. Brandie says:

Amen! Talk your talk, Brother Bizrow.

  63. Brandie says:

A putrescent buzzard…three words, but extremely descriptive!

  64. tdb1977 says:

Friday is so far away for the next actual game that means something in the win/lose column. Can’t wait for this second half to start. Excited to see what the next half brings because the first half was down right awesome. To be 19 over, one game back of St. Louis, there are no words to describe it. Let’s go Bucs!

  65. tdb1977 says:

How many boos does Pedro get in the introductions?

  66. pattonbb says:

You know, seeing all of those Buccos in a line during the introductions is one of the cooler things I’ve seen this year.

  67. +1 on Brandie and Patton

  68. Milo Hamilton says:

I hope the first 3 batters in the National League order suffer tragic season ending injuries in the 1st inning. Other than that – Play Ball !

  69. Milo Hamilton says:

OK, I really didn’t mean that. For batters 2 & 3, that is.

  70. tdb1977 says:

Did you mean the American League Milo because that has got to hurt? Right on the knee, OUCH!

  71. Drew71 says:

How bout a plunking battle to revenge Cano?

  72. Milo Hamilton says:

That’d be awesome. Hit Phillips. 2nd baseman for 2nd baseman. I’d love to see that punk’s reaction.

  73. Drew71 says:

I miss the OLD Shea Stadium.

If giant concrete walls could talk.

  74. Drew71 says:

I’d love to do it myself with my blazing 43 MPH fastball.

  75. Arriba Wilver says:

  76. Drew71 says:

I’d have to ice my shoulder for three days after letting loose with that kinda heat

  77. Lad9 says:

Biz you nailed it. + 56-37. Can’t wait for te second half!

  78. Brandie says:

    No. I’m Dripping with Venom.

  79. Brandie says:

Minister Spunky Luckmeister! I hope the world is treating you well!

  80. Brandie says:

    It’s Glad Lad! Good tidings!

  81. tdb1977 says:

Come on. We know you can reach back and get it up to 45 without any trouble. Just need to stretch you out. Maybe Uncle Ray could help you out to find those lost MPHs in that shoulder.

  82. Brandie says:

Sounds like Mrs. Butterworth’s Syrup would run faster than that ball would travel. Not saying I would do any better, but bring the heat, Brother Drew!

  83. Brandie says:

Searage needs a show for kids, like Johnny Bench had “The Baseball Bunch”. It could be called “Uncle Ray’s Bullpen Bonanza”.

  84. Arriba Wilver says:

With 5 there even LaRussa wouldn’t have been able to avoid playing Pirates.

Just kidding, Bochy has been nothing but classy.

  85. OZ says:

    Line1: 100 under
    Line 2: 100 over
    Line 3: 100 over
    Line 4: 100 under

  86. Milo Hamilton says:

Maybe someone out there in blog land can help me. Who was the last Pirate to homer in an All Star Game ? Dave Parker maybe ?

  87. Brandie says:

Send good vibes to all who have to make important decisions that they receive proper guidance (I.e. Buccos management with regard to trades, Hippo with regard to work, etc.) and to all those traveling…stay safe.

  88. pattonbb says:

    Parker – 1981

  89. Milo Hamilton says:

    Thank you sir.

1st game back after the strike in Cleveland,

  90. Brandie says:

    Yes, in 1981.

  91. Drew71 says:

I wonder how many times a 43 MPH baseball bounces before it reaches the plate.

  92. Lad9 says:

The kids would start the show throwing like the kid in the State Farm commercial and finish throwing 80 mph with late movement! :)

  93. Brandie says:

    Sounds like a math equation.

  94. Lad9 says:

Brandie I hope our friendly neighborhood hippo roared through his big day today.

  95. Brandie says:

Me too. It has been a tough year for him. He’s due for a bit of sparkle in his pond!

  96. Milo Hamilton says:

    And thank you.

  97. Brandie says:

That’s the thing with Leyland…He looked grizzled and weather beaten 25 years ago. It looks like he has not aged further. How is that possible?

  98. Brandie says:

    You are most welcome.

  99. Keith says:

Dejan needs someone to play rim shots for his Twitter feed.

  100. Milo Hamilton says:

“Brandon Phillips, one of the game’s really good guys.”

Joe Buck really just said that.

DK: Actually, my very favorite thing about Phillips — and he’s always been good with me, including yesterday — is that the Pirates’ announcers really, really hate him.

  101. Drew71 says:

Florida Gators’ head coach Will Muschamp commenting about Ohio State and Urban Meyer reporting Florida for alleged secondary recruiting violations:

“That’s really a dead issue with me. In both situations, we were turned in by Ohio. We didn’t do anything wrong. The University of Florida didn’t do anything wrong. And so we appreciated our friends from Ohio making sure we’re compliant with NCAA rules. They certainly know a little bit about that subject.”

    They sure do, don’t they?

    Loved the “Ohio” stateless reference.

I am seriously hoping that someday these two teams meet in the national championship game.

When Ohio is, you know, off probation.

And of course before Urban moves on. Again.

  102. pattonbb says:

I like the Pirate’s announcers a little more than I did 5 minutes ago.

  103. Milo Hamilton says:

Not as much as I do.

  104. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m guessing one of the best things about your job is hanging out with race baiters.

  105. Brandie says:

Animal can do it…He is a drummer, after all. :-)

  106. Lad9 says:

That is awesome! I love when coaches get snarky with each other. Thanks Drew.

  107. Brandie says:

I could converse with you all night about race baiters and the evil and destruction that kind of group think has wrought, but I would have to sleep eventually.

I think part of DK’s job is not to get mixed up in that kind of mess.

  108. Brandie says:

Gettin’ a little catty gentleman. :-)

  110. Jandy says:

I don’t care what color Phillips is, he’s a punk.

  111. Jandy says:

    Beyotch works fine ;)

  112. Lad9 says:

Going to hear a cheese interview! Woo hoo.

  113. Jandy says:

    Love me some Cheese!

  114. Lad9 says:

Cover of SI for Grilled Cheese! Whoa! The Buccos will stomp on that jinx – it didn’t hurt Kate Upton. :)

  115. Drew71 says:

    1 hit.

Did the NL bring the ENTIRE Pirates lineup?

Was that mean? I hate it when I’m mean.

  116. Milo Hamilton says:

    1 bleeping hit ?

Just practicing for the 2nd half.

  117. Lad9 says:

  118. T.S. says:

Here’s a thought: sign free agent Johnny Damon to play RF. Give up zero prospects; add, at worst, a bench piece whose got to be better than Gaby Sanchez.

  119. Eric Bowser says:

Melancon and Grilli are used to it.

  120. Milo Hamilton says:

Mo is looking over his shoulder for John Wetteland.

  121. Patrick(ri) says:

That is how you do it– ovation for MR.

  122. Thundercrack says:

Power out at my house. Listening to the game on transistor radio

I feel cheated. Booing David Wright isn’t the same on radio as it is booin at the TV

  123. Milo Hamilton says:

Maybe if he came back for one more season they’d let him pitch the 9th next year.

  124. Thundercrack says:

Btw….I LOVE that the Pirate announcers hate Brandon Phillips

  125. Thundercrack says:

Even the All Star team couldn’t get Cutch in from third with 2 out.

  126. J Walter Weatherman says:

    Prince Fielder: still tormenting Pirates

  127. Thundercrack says:

What is Damon’s batting average this season?

  128. Milo Hamilton says:

    Good old reliable Nathan.

  129. Reading says:

    Great job by Grilli!

  130. Milo Hamilton says:

    Same as mine.

  131. Thundercrack says:

    Enthralled with it
    Disappointed when it was over.
    Didn’t disagree with a thing.

    Hat Trick!

  132. J Walter Weatherman says:

Hey, I figured out why the Pirates are good this season. The rest of the NL sucks.

  133. Bob Hasis says:

    As in Detroit
