  1. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Line #1
Total INNINGS PITCHED by Francisco Liriano in tonight’s game
    Line is 6.25

    Line #2
Total RUNS SCORED by the Pirates in tonight’s game
    Line is 3.5

Please Note – All games must be considered official games in order for line(s) to be valid. Any postponement, cancellation, or suspension of game(s) will void line(s).

    GOOD LUCK!!!

61 Down, only 21 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  2. Bizrow says:

Where did Alex Presley come from?

    No Marte?

  3. Bizrow says:

100 on the over for both lines

    Thanks Playoffs

  4. Lasedog8 says:

Marte could use the break, but why Presley? Call anyone up but him.

  5. Dom says:

Mike McKenry on the 15 day DL.

  6. Jandy says:

    it’s his turn :)

  7. AJS says:

No Marte is a plus in my opinion tonight. He can’t hit the broad side of a barn right now. Until he decides there actually ARE some pitches he is incapable of making contact with he shouldn’t be anywhere near the line-up.

Pressley is up due to Snider on teh DL.

Tabata at lead off? Haven’t seen that in over a year.

  8. Karen22 says:

    Both lines: 100 on OVER.

Here we go. I don’t know what to think…

  9. Bizrow says:

Marte ain’t gonna get out of his funk picking splinters out of his rear end.

    Just sayin

  10. AJS says:

Go to the four letter netowrk’s website. Look at the 40 man. Then tell me who you are calling up. I don’t think there is another outfielder on it! OK I lied. Sands is on the 40 man. So your choices are Presley and Sands.

  11. Snider to the CL for toe problem, right?

Now what is Fort’s deal? Did he get hurt over the weekend?

  12. Dom says:

    This lineup really stinks.

  13. AJS says:

So has Sanchez been recalled or are they going with 1 catcher tonight?

  14. AJS says:

    Strained his knee.

  15. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I was hoping they’d recall Danny Noonan, you know, since Sonja Henie is out…

  16. AJS says:

    Pressley, Barmes, and Tabata. Ick.

  17. pattonbb says:

Marte needed a break a week ago, not now.

Really scratching my head over the back to back games without Cutch AND Marte in the lineup together.

  18. Patrick(RI) says:

This lineup actually has pretty decent stats against Westbrook. Considering he is not a rookie with a weak era and, therefore will probably not set a personal K record, fret not.

Personal longshot: Presley hits one to or over the Clemente wall.

  19. Dom says:

Here is a good article on the guys the Buccos would potentially want to target:

  20. AJS says:

And there is the reason for Barmes. .292 against Westbrook. 24 at bats. That’s ALMOST statistically credible.

  21. Dom says:

    #1 100 OVER!!!
    #2 50 OVER!!!

  22. pattonbb says:

    Sanchez came up yesterday.

  23. Dom says:

    He was up yesterday.

  24. pattonbb says:

    Line 1 – 100 UNDER
    Line 2 – 100 OVER

  25. Dom says:

Why didn’t we add Lambo to the 25 man lineup and just release Presley?

I’m not one of those guys who thinks Lambo is the answer at RF but he’s a better option than Presley.

  26. AJS says:

Clint said a week ago or so that he wanted to get Cutch a day off soon. And Marte just needs a break…what is he doing now that makes him need a break less now than last week? There are 2 schools of thought…let him play the weaker opponents and let him try to figure it out so that he is ready for the Cards feeling that you can sacrifice the at bat vs the weaker teams and the rest of the line up can pick him up. And if he doesn’t come around put someone in there who isn’t a wasted at bat vs a team where every at bat counts.

Pull him against those weaker opponents and coach him up every day and throw him back into the fire against the Cards.

Clint has always been one to pull guys out of “tough” situations when they are struggling and let them play when the stakes aren’t as high.

  27. AJS says:

    Sorry. Missed that.

  28. cmat0829 says:

well right now, the ball boy batting, taking pitches and hoping for a walk would be a welcome respite from Marte’s at bats. The breather is the best thing right now, maybe for Marte, but definitely for the Bucs.

  29. The Gunner says:

Great info, Milo. Pedro, Tabata, Walker & Cutch have the 4 highest OPS against Westbrook. Let’s go strap it on ‘em!

  30. cmat0829 says:

Alex really is either pull the ball for a double or HR or make an out, nothing in between…. I too can visualize Alex going deep tonight…. let’s hope for the best!

  31. JAL says:

Have to add him to the 40 first

  32. Nate83 says:

    line 1 – 100 on the over
    line 2 – 50 on the over

  33. cosmo says:

100 over on both lines please.

  34. Bizrow says:

Dunno, but I think you go with the guys that got you where you are this series.

Marte is young, high upside, one swing could get him back on track.

Plus there is that defense thing…

  35. Nate83 says:

Marte hasn’t exactly been tearing it up of late. Pressly could provide what Marte did at the beginning of the year. That being said I do not like what this does to the outfield defense. The Cardinals have a lot of gap power hitters and Marte and Cutch cover a lot of ground. I hope this doesn’t cost them one or two doubles tonight.

  36. cmat0829 says:

the analysis wasn’t bad, but no solid reporting in there just fantasy baseball yet again. And got to LOVE the fan comment at the end of the article… talk about not having a clue… I quote:

The Pirates usually panic this time of year and trade top prospects for rental players…

um, in what milennium is this fan? or is he commenting about his season of MLB The Show he has going in his alternative universe….

  37. Bizrow says:

Do we have any openings JAL?

What with McPherson getting TJ surgery, he could be put on the 60 day DL to open a spot for someone?

But I can see how you would not want to tinker with the 40 man this close to the trade deadline

  38. Naterosboro says:

Don’t let Bob Hasis see this post.

  39. Milo Hamilton says:

Oh Neal panicked last year, but to the opposite extreme. Well said sir.

  40. Naterosboro says:

    Get-away day.

    Play 2 tomorrow.

  41. JRay3 says:

Well many have wanted to have Sanchez up as the backup catcher for some time and they now get that for the next 15 days. Fort, however was playing better of late.

Time to see if AP is any bit of an upgrade to Snider, he like Tabata have been given numerous chances and has never seized them. I know the trade market is a bit dry or a bit expensive but this team HAS to add a RF at minimum.

Don’t mind Barmes getting the start tonight and Marte sitting. Marte needs a day, long overdue and Barmes is 12-40 since early July hitting .300. If he continues with an improved bat will certainly take his glove out at SS.

  42. blazer says:

100 on line 1 for an under
100 for the over on line 2

  43. cmat0829 says:

there are gonna be 5 games, plenty of opportunities for Marte to get back in there…

  44. Bizrow says:

I am not fond of the idea that Sanchez will make his first start in the show probably in the twinight doubleheader with either AJ or TBD on the hill.

  45. Dom says:

I’m aware of that. We can get rid of Presley or someone like Jerry Sands.

  46. cmat0829 says:

100 over on both lines. STFD Redbirds!

  47. TK says:

    Line 1 – 100 on the OVER
    Line 2 – 100 on the OVER

  48. SeattleMatthew says:

I’m dying for the Pirates to trade for some offense. Dying. The lineup posted up there looks putrid.

Also, how many of the games against the Cards will be sellouts?

  49. JohninOshkosh says:

My brother and I were big golfers and quoted that movie all the time. In high school my brother and I got pulled over when he was speeding. After the cop gave him the ticket, my brother, out of habit, said, “Thank you very little.”

Man, did that cop get irate!

  50. pattonbb says:

Jose Tabata has one hit in his last 26 at bats. I’m thinking he should sit down and get a few days off before Marte.

  51. Bizrow says:

    From MLBTradeRumors

The Pirates and Diamondbacks are the strong front runners for free agent reliever Brian Wilson, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today, who notes that Wilson has offers from four NL teams and one AL club. Yesterday, Yahoo’s Tim Brown noted interest from the same mix of five teams.

Wilson, 31, auditioned for teams Thursday with the Pirates, Diamondbacks, Athletics, Giants, Phillies, Rangers, Rockies and Cardinals in attendance. The former Giants closer had Tommy John surgery in April 2012.

  52. Bob Hasis says:

    It’s too late.

I’m amazed at the pervasive disregard for Mercer and Presley, but that appears to be the consensus here

  53. cmat0829 says:

it wont be with AJ… it will be catching Jeanmar Gomez… I’m not worried about Tony… He may be weak throwing but the Fort wasn’t gonna throw a ton of runners out anyway.

  54. TJ says:

Pirates and D-Backs considered front runners for Brian Wilson the pitcher.

  55. cmat0829 says:

well, the shark tank has started growing mustaches, guess they will have to switch to hideous black beards….

  56. Nate83 says:

I’m not fond of it either but it sure will be fun to watch. I hope he contributes and it kickstarts a nice long career with the Pirates. He really seems to have matured. If he catches for TBD and it’s not Gomez it would probably be someone he caught for in AAA more then a few games so it’s not the worse situation.

  57. Milo Hamilton says:

I think they’re going to call somebody up to pitch that game. Send Presley or Harrison back & the new guy should be here the day after that.

  58. pattonbb says:

Pirates are one of the front runners to sign Brian Wilson.

    Not the crazy one, Milo.

  59. TJ says:

With Hanson being promoted from A to AA yesterday is it safe to say he’s off the table? Guess it started the rumor mill churning when he was pulled from the lineup.

  60. John Lease says:

It may be a consensus, but it’s forged in ignorance.

Why Snider was handed the job over Presley is beyond me. Presley’s done more, especially this season.

    Maybe his toe is healthier?

  61. Because he only has 26 HR’s in the minors this year, Dom. He’s too unproven for a “pennant race”.

  62. Nate83 says:

Cost zero prospects and gives good depth against injury to bullpen. Not the worse move. Low risk, high reward. I think I saw somewhere that his fastball was back up to 94-95.

  63. Dom says:

We should have at least Mercer and Marte start today so they could play one of the two tomorrow. I hope they’re not off today so they can play two tomorrow.

  64. cmat0829 says:

tony has caught most if not all of the pirates pitchers… including AJ… I think in ST, there was a story about him not being afraid to lead the pitchers, including AJ. That said, we need Martin catching AJ, if nothing else to keep the running game somewhat in control…AJ is about as bad as it gets holding runners

  65. Bob Hasis says:

That defense provided between Cutch and Marte IS irreplaceable!

  66. cmat0829 says:

dont see it has any impact on his availability….

  67. Naterosboro says:

The staple in the Hanrahan deal (Sands)? Surely you jest sir…

  68. AJS says:

What PROOF do you have of that. And don’t give me minor league numbers. We no absolutely nothing about Lambo as a major league bat. We do know that Presley is fast. We do know that for a stretch of time in ’11 it seemed like he was the cog that made the team go batting from the lead off spot. We do know he hasn’t been as productive as that first flash showed. With lambo we knoe he hits AAA pitching well…

  69. TJ says:

just seems odd you’d move a guy if he was part of on going trade negotiations.

  70. AJS says:

Sands isn’t going anywhere yet. He was part of the Hanny deal. he’s going to get a chance to prove his worth.

  71. cmat0829 says:

hmmm, interesting not to have gomez make that start… cool though gomez is an important part of the pen now and he may be needed for multiple innings over these 5 games….

  72. War Horse says:

Line #1 100 on the OVER

Line #2 100 on the OVER

  73. AJS says:

And let’s not forget that lambo has kind of a rough history. They are going to check his maturity level before they give him any shot.

  74. Bizrow says:

Actually there are around 60 more chances to get Marte back into a game.

    We’ll see what happens.

  75. JRay3 says:

Milo – I believe the new rule for DH is in play to expand roster to 26 for that day only, do not believe they will need to option anybody.

  76. Bob Hasis says:

This Panic Move #1 by CH, starting Barmes ahead of Mercer. AS I stated on the earlier thread, there is not one – zero, nada, zilch offensive stat that Barmes can claim over Mercer – with the one exception – 15 more K’s in 210 AB’s

I’m certain there will be others within the game

  77. AJS says:

All I am going to say to this is Matt Hague. He of the mashing AAA pitching that everyone was SURE would be a better fit in the majors at first than Lyle Overpaid. When Hague got his shot, what did he do? hitting 26 in AAA doesn’t mean squat.

  78. Bob Hasis says:

    Other Panic Moves

  79. Bizrow says:

Fort however, can make the throw back to the catcher and can actually get the ball close to second base.

And calling a game is another aspect unless the dugout calls the game for him

  80. Bizrow says:

Do you live in Seattle Wash? Or otherwise reside there?

  81. John Lease says:

    Alex Presley

    Travis Snider

Let’s see, Presley has a better average, slugging and OPS than Snider (Snider has the better OBP, by 3 points). Of course, Snider has been given far more opportunities (700 more ML PA), but by all means let’s run down Presley, who’s been given SO MANY opportunities.

  82. JohninOshkosh says:

Was anybody seen at any airports today ? Or cleaning their lockers ? Or hugging a teammate ? Or checking apartment rental availability on Chicago Graigslist ?

I haven’t looked at Twitter all day so I’m tragically out of the loop.

By the way, who exactly is the poor sap that has to monitor the comings and goings of people at the Altoona and Indianapolis airports ?

  83. Matt hoffman says:

My personal opinion is that Presley should have been starting all along in the Burgh. I have always liked him. Mercy people, he had 10 homers last year in limited at bats! I believe that he is our answer in RF. The area I would like to see him improve is to cut back on strikeouts. Just my opinion, thanks.

  84. Dom says:

How about getting rid of Chase D’Arnaud or Russ Canzler? These are odd circumstances and we can’t exactly be looking to the future. We have to look to the present.

  85. AJS says:

Presly can cover a lot of ground as well. And prior to his hammy issues so could Tabby. Tabby in right isn’t an issue and Presley has manned left in PNC on many occasions and done it quite well. Doesn’t bother me any.

  86. Naterosboro says:

Just saw this from Pirates Prospects, a tweet from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale:

Former #SFGiants closer Brian Wilson has 5 offers-from 4 NL teams and 1 AL team with #Pirates and #Dbacks considered strong front runners.”

  87. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Too funny.
I try to quote Caddyshack at least once a day.
I’m glad you always get the references.

  88. Bizrow says:

    To quote Mr Playoffs

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

    Take some Tums.

Still 3 hours till gametime. ;-)

  89. AJS says:

TBD is Jenmar Gomez. Count on it.

  90. cmat0829 says:

you can’t stop what you are doing just in case something happens… maybe it also reinforces his value, though I doubt any smart GM would weigh that vs. prospect lists/status…

  91. JRay3 says:

Barmes had RBI single off of Fernandez yesterday, more than most the lineup did against him and is hitting .300 since early July.

When he was struggling with the bat made a lot of sense for Mercer to play, if Barmes has bat going, which he does of late, no harm in playing the plus defense.

  92. John Lease says:

Barmes has good career numbers against Westbrook. It’s not much, but it is there.

  93. TJ says:

How is this a panic move?

  94. Dom says:

Of course I have no proof. I just deem him to be the lesser of two evils.

I did look at Presley’s numbers and I guess I was being a bit hard on him.

  95. Eric Scot says:

If the Pirates traded for Pence, we wouldn’t have to give up any of Taillon, Polanco or Hanson. Signing Wilson is HUGE for the Pirates because he has a ton of experience and trading for Pence would bring a lot of hitting potential for the Bucs. Let’s go NH. Pull the triggers.

  96. TJ says:

Yeah I mean saying that starting Barmes over Mercer is a panic move is just plain silly.

  97. AJS says:

Unless he comes in and looks like last years bull pen “upgrade”

    Chad Qualls for the loss!

  98. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Do we have a resident doctor here in this blog?
    This man is dying!!

  99. Milo Hamilton says:

Ah yes. The old 26th man rule. Brandon Cumpton last pitched on the 25th. Tomorrow would be perfect. That roster’s going to be in big time flux the next 3 or 4 days.

  100. AJS says:

Because according to Bob every move hurdle makes from here until October will be a panic move. Even the ones that turn out OK.

  101. cmat0829 says:

Matt, not opposed to giving Elvis some more at bats, but he is not the answer in RF. It be awesome if he was but he is not.

  102. JRay3 says:

CH said yeterday that was original thought but has since changed his mind and they plan on calling up arm from AAA for spot start.

One area he cited was Gomez value to pen and not being shutdown for five days when they have arms at Indy that can go 100 pitches.

  103. cmat0829 says:

what other NL teams do you think offered Wilson a deal? Cards/Reds, perhaps? Dodgers?

  104. Bizrow says:

IMO that weakens the bullpen too much, would rather have them bring up a starter. Jenmar starts, he is unavailable for up to 4 days

  105. AJS says:

Thanks for pointing that all out. Snider was a trade piece last year. His “potential” was so much higher than Presley’s of course. So he gets to keep plugging away everyday.

Actually I don’t know that Snider ahs any options left where as Presly did. So often that plays a part in who gets to sit on the bench for the major league club.

  106. TJ says:

Another bat available… Brad Hawpe DFA

  107. Bizrow says:

He could be expensive though unless the contract is full of incentives

  108. Bob Hasis says:

Look at the comparison figures which people here seem to do usually

  109. Playoffs by 2012 says:

  110. cmat0829 says:

Qualls still kicking…and looked pretty good the other night vs. the Bucs… it really is about players performing… just like Ryan Ludwick, NH can only trade for or sign the players, the players actually have to perform. It was so annoying for Ludwick to play like a dud for us and then do so well for the Reds in 2012.

  111. cmat0829 says:

    Hawpe/Bay our new RF!!

  112. Milo Hamilton says:

Someone might want to take one last look at Cumpton too.

  113. TJ says:

Explain how its a panic move

  114. Bob Hasis says:

We’ll be watching and counting, while you’re ignoring and shrugging your shoulders, saying “Oh well”

  115. NMR says:

You mean like only starting twice in the last 8 games?

  116. JohninOshkosh says:

    St. Louis Cardinals ‏@Cardinals

Lineup at PIT (7/29): Carpenter, 2b; Beltran, rf; Holliday, lf; Craig, 1b; Molina, c; Freese, 3b; Robinson, cf; Kozma, ss; Westbrook, rhp.

  117. cmat0829 says:

Well, the Sox just lost their leverage if indeed NH is wanting to pick up Rios from the Sox…..

The Rangers are no longer seriously pursuing Rios, tweets Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

I’m not opposed to picking up Rios but the price has to come way down. Let’s wait until 3:55pm on Wednesday.

  118. TJ says:

counting what Bob? You’ve made a silly statement with no backing other than some offensive numbers. Unfortunately this is a HUGE series for the Pirates and some times you want a veteran who’s played in big games before out there over someone who hasn’t. This is big boy baseball; not lets look at the USA today and see that Mercer has a better BA so he should start.

  119. Bizrow says:

Looks like we have two openings on the 40 man roster?

  120. Bob Hasis says:

For a team so bereft of offense, to put his friend weak-hitting Barmes in is a cop out. It tells me CH doesn’t know much.

Let’s see, he a “maintenance day” to Cutch. Was that necessary?

  121. Bob Hasis says:

    gave a “maintenance . . . . .

  122. Bizrow says:

Folks seem all nervous and irritable today

    Wait till playoff time ;-)

  123. NMR says:

When was the last time you were in Indy to see Tony Sanchez, Biz?

  124. TJ says:

Bob you ever managed a big league team or even a little league team?

You really believe CH put Barmes in because he’s a friend? That statement alone smacks of ignorance. Your really reaching and not coming up with anything.

  125. cmat0829 says:

Eric, you must not be listening to Brian Sabean… he ‘prefers to re-sign Pence and not trade him’ and his asking price is sky high….

  126. TJ says:

Looks as though Crain has been dealt; that from comments from him directly. No word on where he’s going.

  127. Playoffs by 2012 says:

  128. Bob Hasis says:

It’s a Panic Move because CH didn’t know what to do – so he panicked by inserting the weak-hitting Barmes, when we need all the offense we can get.

YOU explain to me why it was a good move!!

  129. NMR says:

Why would the Pirates trade Pence for anything less than a prospect with 1st round talent?

  130. JRay3 says:

Bob – Barmes is hitting .300 this month, his bat is playing well of late and he is a far better defender than Mercer who struggles both with range and with routine balls hit to him at times. If this were the Barmes of April and May maybe your point would have some validity.

As for Cutch, yes the day was necessary especially to a guy who lays it all out on the field each and every day, runs out routine outs, chases balls all over the OF and sacrifices his body all the time. I rather have a rested Cutch at optimum performance than a burnt out one.

  131. Bill Born says:

    Liriano line over for 100

under the 3.5 run line for 100

Marte is 4 for his last 37

I’ll Presley over the 4 for 37 if given a chance.

  132. NMR says:

    A Pirate blogger.

  133. JRay3 says:

I read he was headed to Tampa Bay, and that it might be a three team trade.

  134. NMR says:

    Reds and Dodgers.

  135. TJ says:

I give up Bob. You should too.

  136. Naterosboro says:

Presley got the 52 games in 2011 where he did well. He was given an opportunity last season to seize the LF job and hit .237 in 104g (370 PAs) with an OBP of .279.

That was his opportunity, and he blew it. Obviously, the Pirates now do not view him any more than OF depth.

Combine that with the poor (and injured) play from Tabata last season, and that facilitated the move to go get Snider (plus Polonco wasn’t viewed as highly as he is right now).

Travis Snider has hit .219 over 95g (265 PAs) with a .287 OBP in his opportunity to win the OF job. Obviously, management isn’t enamored with his performance as he’s basically become a bench player with Jones or Tabata getting the majority of starts there (I think they even started Brandon Inge over him!) recently.

While I don’t think anyone should be praising Snider, I also don’t think there’s any cause for singing the praises of Presley. They’re both AAAA players that provide depth.

Essentially what I’m saying is, no one is trying to make Travis Snider out to be any better than he is, and I don’t think you should be doing so with Presley either. If someone is trying to make Snider look good, well then, what has the world come to?!

  137. Bob Hasis says:

You are right, and cutting back on strike outs should be the teams mantra – especially starting tonight.
We might though with Marte getting a “maintenance day” off, until he will be req’d. to enter as a pinch-hitter.

  138. cmat0829 says:

Pretty quiet on Bucs rumors on trades…except for the Wilson posting from the excellent Bob Nightengale…. i think quiet is actually a good thing… I could be wrong, and we will know in 48 hours, but I think NH will definitely acquire either a 1B/RF or both and also a bench piece by the deadline.

CH was pretty clear that he and Neal were talking trades over the weekend and CH ‘prioritized’ the list for NH…. given NH has been talking to GMs for a long while now, and knows what the price is and is likely to be, I can’t see the Bucs standing pat at this point… I just hope and pray they don’t overpay EXTREMELY…. but let’s face it folks, they WILL OVERPAY, so get your complaining out now and zip it when they pull the trigger…in this market, buyers will overpay that is assured. ALL buyers, not just Neal.

  139. NMR says:

Who says the Sox have to trade Rios at the deadline?

They still have every bit as much leverage as they did this morning.

  140. Bob Hasis says:

It’s amazing cmat that you already know all of that

  141. Stuart says:

No, I’m betting on Johnson, the lefthander.

  142. Tom P. says:

Who? I am missing something. 15 day DL creates an opening on the 25 man roster, but not the 40 man.

  143. cmat0829 says:

if dodgers, surprised that doesn’t appeal to him being a west coast guy … be great to beat the Reds out for his services…. wonder if the strong offer includes some type of ‘role guarantee’… i.e. is he given 8th inning commitment as incentive to sign with us over the others…..

Dbacks may give him a chance to close, who knows… unless Heath Bell eats him accidentally

  144. Nate83 says:

Maybe on not remembering exactly right but I thought Ludwick played pretty good the year we picked him up.

  145. NMR says:

    As it should be.

He’s got an excellent chance of re-signing Pence and even if he doesn’t, the Giants will get a 1st round pick from the team that does (assuming they extend Pence a qualifying offer).

No reason for Sabean to trade Pence for anything less than an outfielder to replace him or a 1st round talent.

  146. cmat0829 says:

I could eat my words, but the bottom of the Cards lineup isn’t exactly the ’27 Yankees… Freese/Robinson/Kozma aren’t too intimidating…. the top 5 is a different story, and like always Molina likely holds the key…if we can keep him in check, like we’ve kept Cabrera and others in check this season, you have a decent shot to keep the Cards down……

I know I would liberally pitch around Craig and/or Molina if given the opportunity, and take chances with Freese.

  147. Jim S. says:

  148. Naterosboro says:

He didn’t know what to do?

Here were his options (albeit with maybe a tinkering to where these things go in the order):

    1) Write “Mercer”

    2) Write “Barmes”

Did Clint lie on his application?

  149. Nate83 says:

Nope I was wrong. Just checked he batted only .232 but he did have an OBP of .341. Not exactly what we where hoping for.

  150. Jim S. says:

He’s had that chance at a lower level all year, and hasn’t done it. This isn’t the Littlefield regime. I think they have now learned to cut bait when it is time. He is a AAA roster filler now. I sure hope that is all he is, anyway.

  151. cmat0829 says:

You are right, if they are stupid they will not take the chance to unload an overpaid and relatively unproductive player in their broad rebuilding effort…. but they may indeed be stupid. They should study Theo on the north side for tips on how it’s done.

I prefer Schierholtz actually so I really hope they do hold onto Mr Rios.

  152. Jim S. says:

    I love the phraseology, Bob.

  153. cmat0829 says:

Are you saying Bob that Neal can stop calling GMs to acquire an impact bat to play RF because Elvis is just what we need for this offense?

I don’t disagree that Snyder got more chances than Presley did, but it isn’t like Alex hasn’t had a shot…. he has skills just not those impact skills we are seeking…. would you start Alex in RF over Pence? Rios? Schierholtz? All of them?

  154. Naterosboro says:

It’s only the contenders, so those teams I’d say. I’m not sure of the Dodgers bullpen sitch’, but I’d say the Reds could use another arm.

  155. Stuart says:

Playoffs, give me 100 octo-spiders each on the overs for both.

  156. Jim S. says:

Jake the Snake strikes out 3.3 per 9 innings. This should be the perverbial irresistible force vs. the immovable object.

  157. JRay3 says:

    Well stated.

  158. Jim S. says:

    + many.

  159. AJS says:

Is Presly a downgrade in left for defensive purposes? Yes. But not a major one. We’ve seen him make some plays out there.

  160. NMR says:

You don’t seem to be considering the option of them trading him this winter, when more than just teams in playoff contention will be bidding.

  161. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window on an emotions running high Monday with this key divisional series about to start. Great night for the Bucs to take the first game of this five gamer (and for entertainment purposes only the Bucs a -150 favorites in Vegas tonight).

    Line 1 – 100 on the OVER

    Line 2 – 75 on the OVER

    Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs.

  162. Jim S. says:

Barmes had to pick now to start hitting. Couldn’t he have done it when Jordy was scuffling? Jordy had an 11 game hitting streak just stopped. He has been hitting very well of late.

  163. cmat0829 says:

well there’s TOP of the FIRST ROUND talent and BOTTOM of the FIRST ROUND talent, for starters…..

also, we’ve all discussed the difference between newly drafted prospects (and how many fail to succeed) vs. prospects that have a few years of development under their belts and are more projectible…. IMHO there is no way the Giants should expect a Taillon or Polanco for Pence… that said, I am not saying he shouldn’t get a very good prospect plus a couple of midlevels…. that is a high price, just not a ridiculous price.

  164. Jim S. says:

I heard Wilson said he isn’t coming unless we get Rios.

  165. Naterosboro says:

  166. AJS says:

I don’t think D’Arnaud is going anywhere aright now. He’s playing his way back from injury and played streaky ball for the bucs in the past. i don’t think he projects to much of an every day player but I’m willing to bet they aren’t ready to cut ties with him just yet.

And like i believe you conceded earlier, it is hard to mess with the 40 man leading up to the deadline.

  167. cmat0829 says:

take away the desparation of the Pirates and Rangers to be kicking tires on Rios and I doubt there’s much a market there at all to be honest. But I could be wrong. The winter is full of teams who build their springtime dreams around their own controllable players… like the Bucs did around Travis Snider.

  168. NMR says:

Amazing how many runs the Cards have scored with Freese and Jon Jay both having bad years.

  169. cmat0829 says:

their ridiculous .338 with RISP goes a long way….

  170. Nate83 says:

That haven’t overpaid yet under this front office. They undersold in some cases but have never overpaid. They know what they are willing to give up I don’t think they will move off of that. They will let the process play out and if that means ending up with nothing except for some bench help and a middle reliever then that is what they will do.

In my opinion the focus for the front office has been and always will be to remain competetive for years to come and not flinch in situations like this. It won’t be popular but I’m guessing they have 3 or 4 guys they consider untouchable and are problably only willing to trade one of 4-10 away.

  171. AJS says:

I had not heard that statement. being out of town all weekend and extremely busy really had me lose touch with what was going on…other than checking the score frequently and swearing at my phone often.

  172. NMR says:

A team that drops out of the bidding three days before the deadline is desperate?

I guess if thats what you want to believe, you’re entitled.

  173. AJS says:

I agree. Ludwick was a dud of epic proportions and then looked like he-man last season.

  174. Playoffs by 2012 says:

OMG…The Reds are trying to get Pence.

  175. Lad9 says:

Over on both for 100 please. Bucs go up 1-0 in the series tonight. Thank you. Go Buccos!

  176. AJS says:

OK you can count them based on your clouded perception of what is a panic and what is not. Counting judgment calls always turns out unbias right?

  177. NMR says:

Reds are going to regret giving him a $15m extension.

I think its crazy for them to expect him to come off the DL in a pennant race and be the player he was last season.

  178. AJS says:

Well it might just have been. Cutch hadn’t had a real day off since prior to the break. A couple of times a month the big boy gets a day off. It may be his last before the end of teh season actually.

  179. Thundercrack says:

You wanted it, you got it. Alex Presley is up.

    Print the playoff tickets!!

  180. JohninOshkosh says:

And the Tigers got Jose Veras in a trade.

He could have replaced Grilli……looks like the Pirates postseason chances are now nil.

  181. Jim S. says:

Thanks for no one telling me you all left the other thread! I was in a meeting, came out and started posting, and you were all gone. My self-esteem is waning. I have fear of abandonment issues.

Ok, seriously, I did post about the RF situation. I did some exhaustive research. Yes, even more than earlier for the great Hughes vs. Morton debate, NMR.

Rios total stats in ’13: .272/.325/.427/.752. He’s a dime a dozen with a bad ‘tude.

He has 12 HR in 393 AB. He has 35 XBH, so less than 1/10 AB.

Pence is a far better everyday option. He is hitting .277/.320/.457/.778. Pence hits LHP at a .320 clip, but only .263 vs RHP. He has a lot of XBH, with 42, but he only has 8 HR in 308 ABs vs. RHP.

Schierholtz is murdering RHP: .289/.338/.570/.909. 14 HR and a whopping 39 XBH in 249 ABs.

Pence and Schierholtz both whiff 1/6 ABs.

In my mind, Schierholtz/Tabby is a good platoon. Keep in mind, Tabby would only get 25% of the ABs or so.

  182. NMR says:

I heard Wilson is will only come if Brett Keisel shaves his beard.

This town ain’t big enough for two self-absorbed marginal players.

  183. pattonbb says:

    Twice too many, NMR.

    Anyone but….

  184. Jim S. says:

Maybe that will hasten a deal.

  185. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies!
    Rivers and seas boiling!

    Forty years of darkness!
    Earthquakes, volcanoes…

The dead rising from the grave!

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!

  186. Thundercrack says:

If I was a Tiger fan I would panic

  187. AJS says:

I’m pretty sure he has and you have ignored it. Barmes is hitting .300 since July 1. That makes him at least equal to Mercer at the plate as of late. He also is a career .292 against tonights starting pitcher.

Mercer has been booting the ball a bit the past week or so and has nowhere near the defensive range of Mercer.

A tie on offense and a plus for Barmes on defense seems to me Barmes is the right call.

Lets look at it another angle. Essentially the same argument but coming at it from the back side…

This offense is pittiful right? Does the choice of Barmes or Mercer really inject enough offense to make a difference? No. So knowing you aren’t going to score a dozen runs no matter who pitches and that you are going to have to give up as few as possible to win, you want your best defense out there. That is Barmes.

  188. Nate83 says:

I will get this one for Milo. Schierholtz is batting .232 away from Wrigly and since we only play 3 games in Wrigly………Just kidding. I still like Schierholtz as an option especially after seeing how little Theo got for Soriano.

  189. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    They were -144 earlier

  190. AJS says:

And also…bad move does not mean it was made in panic.

  191. Jim S. says:

I originally didn’t like Schierholtz, Nate. But, I admit he has grown on me. He has pretty consistently hit RHP year after year. But, he really has big power #’s vs. them this year. His power numbers home vs. away are a little better at home, and he is hitting .252 away vs. .311 at home. So, Milo has a point. But, I would say that might just be an anomaly. Hard to say, really. Wrigley is typically a hitter-friendly park, but not necessarily so to RF where Nate hits. Nate is regarded as a very good RF.

I’d be comfortable with him getting 75-80% of the ABs in RF for us. I don’t think he’d come nearly as cheaply as Sori, though. There is no financial albatross with Nate, is there?

  192. TJ says:

Crain is in fact dealt to the Rays. No details yet

  193. Jim S. says:

Supposedly, Detroit gave its #4 prospect to Houston for Veras. That deserves a “sheesh!” from me.

  194. JohninOshkosh says:

859 posts on the two threads today by 4:10 CT, still 2 hours to go until the game…

    We are all certifiably insane.

  195. Stickyweb says:

Relax all. I actually like this lineup. Tabby, Cutch, Pedro and Walker all own Westbrook. Even Barmes and Presley have been decent against him. Marte and Mercer will both be back for the 1st game tomorrow since Cards are starting a LHP. Take a deep breath.

  196. Jim S. says:

    Jesse, Frazier, or Niles?

  197. Brandie says:

Can I have 100 on the over for line #1 and 50 on the over for line #2? Thanks!

  198. NMR says:

Not if you know Detroits farm system!

  199. Matt hoffman says:

Any anouncement on who our starter is in game #2 tomorrow night?

  200. Jim S. says:

I should also say there is Sweeney and DeJesus from the Cubs also, as other possibilities. They all have decent stat lines. I may have to rethink my Wrigley split for this year, though. All 3 of those guys hit a lot better at home than on the road. In fact, Schierholtz hits the best of the 3 away from the Friendly Confines.

  201. Stickyweb says:

Awesome Jim, but I may have found a loophole in the proverb. What if the Bucs still strike out 10 times, but 7 of those the 3rd strike gets away and the runner gets to 1B safely? Would anyone hear that tree falling?

  202. Jim S. says:

I thought about that, but I figured everyone ought to have at least 4 coveted prospects. Veras?

  203. SeattleMatthew says:

Yep, I live in Seattle. But grew up in Pittsburgh. Both are great cities!

  204. Stickyweb says:

But we have to start someone in the OF. Why isn’t J-Hay manning RF? AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

  205. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    I’m not crazy.
    My mother had me tested.

  206. Irish says:

    50 on Over for #1
50 on Over (really?) for #2
    Let’s Go Bucs!!!

  207. Jim S. says:

Can go 0 for 238 and still lead the league!

  208. NMR says:

    Oh come on, nobody?

I thought that was gold, Jim.

  209. Jim S. says:

I’m hoping Alex can get on a hot streak. I don’t think of him as any sort of answer, just hoping for lightning in a bottle. Snider was awful for the last month. He has to be better than that.

  210. TJ says:

CH is in panic mode; I think he forgot he has to name a starter…. Right Bob?

  211. Stickyweb says:

I’m sure we have a few doctors in here, but how are they gonna get to Seattle in time to save him? Oh the humanity!

  212. theplanisworking says:

Just like Snider is getting a chance to prove his worth, which is nothing.

    Ladies and Gentlemen…………. TBMTIB !!

  213. Jim S. says:

I think the regret is in full effect.

  214. TJ says:

As long as I take my meds the Dr told me I’m fine; now if I can just remember where I put that bottle.

  215. kr70 says:

100 on the over for 1
100 on the over for 2
    and thanks

  216. Stickyweb says:

I heard Wilson was gonna shave his beard but he has the exact same hickey tat as Tabby, and that would be AWKWARD.

  217. TJ says:

If I were the Rays I would have gone with Niles; he brought a half way decent British wife that would do wonders for morale.

  218. Jim S. says:

No way. That tree never gets noticed.

  219. Stickyweb says:

Agreed Jim, they’re a full 2 or 3 months of regret in already.

  220. Jim S. says:

    Thanks, NMR.

  221. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Maris or Lillith?

  222. JRay3 says:

Was reported that Pirates know who will start but will not reveal yet if Cumpton or Pimental, a little gamesmanship.

Interesting move by Matheny who counters AJ wanting to pitch the first game by moving Lance Lynn up to first game to match veterans and now will have Tyler Lyons throw nightcap for Cards.

  223. Stickyweb says:

Josh Bell for Pence. DONE DEAL. And they throw in Scutero and we’ll give them D’Arnoud.

  224. theplanisworking says:

Snider was neals “big get” last year from Toronto. Cant admit he made a mistake, so he will play forever.

  225. Jim S. says:

Lance Lynn pitched well in his last start, but was slumping for several starts before that. He did the same thing last year – hot start, then cooled. We’ve hammered him before, I believe.

  226. theplanisworking says:

    You maybe?? ;)

  227. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I’ll send the card and flowers.

  228. Jim S. says:

    “Sheesh” hereby removed.

  229. theplanisworking says:

    That is Lucky’s job !!! ;)

  230. OZ says:

    Line 1: 100 over
    Line 2: 100 over

  231. theplanisworking says:

    Lay off the meds……………….. ;)

  232. 222 comments and it’s not even game time yet. DK is going to have to start making two threads one for pre-game and the other for the game. Don’t know if it has been said above (though it likely has), but everyone know iti s a bog series when MLB Network is showing two of the 5 games and the four letters is actually getting off their behinds and actually making the trek to Pittsburgh to show another on their precious network. Hopefully the crowds know that and show up in droves to block out any Cards fans that make the journey to PNC. Go Buccos!!

  233. Bob Hasis says:

Hawpe was another of CH’s boys in Colorado, right?

  234. Stickyweb says:

No doubt starting Cumpton over Jeanmar in 2nd game tomorrow will be a PANIC MOVE too. I’ll go with the guy that has the 2nd best record in baseball over the blog commenter anyday.

  235. TJ says:

Why not move AJ back then? LOL. Are these things in stone?

  236. theplanisworking says:

    Panic at the Disco?
    Nice little band.

  237. Bob Hasis says:

This is amazing – maybe I misunderstood – but I agree with cmat.

  238. theplanisworking says:

Glad you left Hippos out of that.

    Resume panic and plagues…………

  239. theplanisworking says:

OH COME ON, LIGHTEN UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  243. Stickyweb says:

Kenny Williams was the cab driver that took Hanson from the airport to the stadium in Altoona. Reportedly, Hanson’s a bad tipper and the deal fell apart.

  244. Bob Hasis says:

You have to be careful how you throw around that PANIC word.

    Please use it discretely.

  245. Bob Hasis says:

I’m heading down to the window at PNC right now! Tickets printed or not!

  246. Bob Hasis says:

Jim, Tabby is out of the equation. We have Presley now – a lefty bat which we need

  247. Stuart says:

Chill, you can’t announce it until the player you are going to send down is OK to go, and he might be in tonights lineup.

Too many people here looking at subtle sign portending an apocalypse.

  248. Bob Hasis says:

That’s what I’m saying. Why do you think his face gets purple during the game?
His blood pressure is racing, his brain is addled, and that gum never stops. Or I should say his mouth never stops – even though his brain does.

Keep a close eye on his pinch-hitting decisions tonight.

  249. I still would like Carl Crawford in right field and batting Leadoff, if Dodgers would pick up half the contract.

Polanco won’t be a “positive factor” on Pirate roster until 2015 season, maybe 2016. Marte wasn’t a “factor” last year.

  250. bizrow says:

When was the last time you were, NMR?

    What does that matter?

    He’s having the yips

  251. pattonbb says:

    Beat Em Bucs

  254. stickyweb says:

I thought we lost Noonan in the rule 5 last year. Or didn’t the Bushwood Bombers keep him on their roster all season?

  255. theplanisworking says:

Dont know if this was already posted………..

MLBTradeRumors reporting Arizona out of the Wilson sweeps.

  256. pattonbb says:

    Well said. Detroit’s #4 prospect instantly becomes Houston’s #16.

  257. Bob Hasis says:

Just give him the same shot Tabby and Snider have gotten. Let him play for two weeks. Is that asking too much?

Keep in mind this; he hustles where Tabby and Snider don’t. On the bases, and definitely in the field. His arm – for a little dude – better than Snider at least.

He brings an energy to the game, just like JHay. There is value in that and it spreads.

  258. Bob Hasis says:

I actually don’t know enough about Rios or Scheurholtz. I would have loved Pence last year – and probably even now.

Do any of us know enough about Presley?

And if you are going strictly on numbers that he doesn’t measure up to those others, then how can some people on this blog desire Barmes over Mercer.

  259. JRay3 says:

No one will be sent down, the Pirates are able to carry 26 tomorrow in the new MLB rules regarding DH’s.

CH stated he was not going to tip his hand yet.

  260. stickyweb says:

Did Sonja Henie get caught up in that Biogenesis mess?

  261. Bob Hasis says:

Correct. Same with Barmes and his 10 and a half million foible.

  262. stickyweb says:

Over for 100 on both lines please. Thanks.

  263. KenKopp says:

Yes, lighten up. Take a breath and act like we’ve been here before. It’s been over twenty years, but some of us have been here before. So you young’uns in the clubhouse listen to us caggy old vets. Have fun and enjoy the game. Of course the last time we were here some of you probably weren’t born and we didn’t have this here blog gizmo. So heck, do whatever makes the game work for you. It’s worked so far this year and if we keep the pressure on the Cards they will wilt. They probably don’t even blog in St. Louie.

    Enjoy Lunnies and Go Bucs!

(Was all that okay Drew and Jandy? :-)

  264. Jandy says:

GO BIG!! 100 big ones on the over for both lines! Thank you Mr. Window.

  265. KenKopp says:

    W. Melbourne, Fl

  266. diehard says:

Yes, but we let him go in Spring Training.

  267. BDHumbert says:

100 on the over on both – what the heck – if we don’t believe who will?

  268. stickyweb says:

SeaMatt, do u have any pull with the Mariners GM? We’d love to get Kendrys and Morse from them for next to nothing.

  269. pattonbb says:

Nice shout out by DK on twitter to our fellow lunatic Alexandre Giesbrecht who’s making his first trip to Pittsburgh from Brazil.

  270. BDHumbert says:

Would have preferred Lambo – but agree that Marte should pass on Westbrook…

  271. Bob Hasis says:

No TJ, I managed Pony and Colt, and if you don’t think friends aren’t chosen over better players, then the ignorance of which you spoke falls in your lap.

It even happens in Legion ball and high school.

  272. stickyweb says:

I’m not nervous or irritable so STFU.

  273. stickyweb says:

I hope you know I was kidding Biz!

  274. bizrow says:

    Thanks Ken, welcome

  275. bizrow says:

A long time follower of Dejan and his blog

The luck is now with us

  276. stickyweb says:

The Rangers have dropped in the standings since horribly overpaying for Garza. I doubt they’ll do it twice in a few weeks.

  277. Nate83 says:

MLB network just spent the first 7 minutes of their show talking about Pirates and Cardinals. Rosenthal said only pence and tips available and the pirates won’t and shouldn’t overpay for those marginal upgrades in right field. Also mentioned reds unlikely toake any major moved.

  278. Nate83 says:

Rios not tips. Darn auto correct.

  279. BDHumbert says:

Tabata should be GONE – he is not an answer – he is a problem…

The opportunity is NOW – put your best 25 on the field…

I would bring up Lambo and DeJesus – dump Barmes and the previously mentioned Tabata.

  280. Joey Mellons says:

100 and over on both lines.
    Lets go get em

  281. Bob Hasis says:

I would like to say this; I think maintenance days are unnecessary.

These guys are playing a game for 3 hours, most of which time they are sitting in the dugout or standing at their position.

Stress and pressure, of course that exists in most games. These guys aren’t road graders, or working in a hot strip mill, or any other really physically demanding job.

I love those stats where they say, “since June 19th he’s leading the league”. Why not say from June 18th or June 10th. Selective analysis methinks.
Or as you say, he’s hitting .300 this month. The fact is he’s hitting .219 this year as opposed to Mercer .275.

So we should play Barmes because of this small sample, yet last week JHay gets 3 hits and is immediately back on the pine. Why not use the same rationale for playing JHay again?

  282. stickyweb says:

Nate you’re too reasonable so you don’t belong in this blog. I also agree with just about everything you said so you probably belong in an asylum. NH will add a bat either a starter that also helps the bench by trickle down or a platoon player that does the same. He won’t overpay. Of course a lot of people cried when he sent Lincoln out last year, and even though it didn’t work out, it was worth the try

  283. Keith says:

    1. 100 on the OVER.
    2. 100 on the UNDER.

  284. stickyweb says:

Bob are you really panicking over how we PANIC? This is vetting ridiculous :-)

  285. Bob Hasis says:

Wow, how condescending can you get?

You refer to “some offensive numbers”? That’s all this blog ever does – you included. I know when the numbers don’t suit your line of reasoning, belittle them.

    The counting of CH’s blunders.

Pathetic response TJ – absolutely pathetic!

  286. JUCOFan says:

Line 1 100 on the over

Line 2 50 on the under

    Thanks Playoffs!!

  287. Baywatch says:

Evening, Guys & Girls. Been awhile. Was wondering if anyone else here finds Everett’s obligatory “Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Night” after someone strikes out on three pitches ANNOYING. I like him alright in the main, just think it’s a little bushleague that he uses that every game.

  288. stickyweb says:

Panic in the dugout not nearly as good.

  289. radio wave says:

at playoffs: The current standings were painful. I will take 100 on the over for line 1. I will take 100 on the under for line 2, with Liriano pitching , 3 should be enough.

  290. JaxBuc says:

Please sir, may I have 100 shuttlecocks on the UNDER for both lines.

  291. Baywatch says:

    Make that Neverett!

  292. Karen22 says:

Whoa! I blinked and there are 300 comments!

  293. Karen22 says:

    Atta girl, Jandy!

  294. SeattleMatthew says:

    I’m on it! ;)

  295. I actually am lightened up and also a caggy old vet. I was just amazed at the amount of info for even before the game on a weekday.

  296. radio wave says:

    And a stronger bench tonight.

  297. Karen22 says:

    All of them??

  298. theplanisworking says:

    Plus 665 this morning!

  299. bman says:

Line 1: 75 on the OVER
Line 2: 50 on the OVER

  300. Karen22 says:

    Absotootly! Certifiably!

  301. pattonbb says:

Hey Baywatch. I wouldn’t mind the “good morning….” stuff if I hadn’t heard it before. Unfortunately, it gets used by other announcers. Gets a little old, in my opinion.

  302. Karen22 says:

And much fingernail biting going on. And game #1 hasn’t even started. It’s going to be an acid-reflux kinda week!

  303. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Playoffs……………

    Line 1 — 100 Hippos OVER.
    Line 2 — 100 Hippos UNDER.

  304. theplanisworking says:

    Pass the Tums, please. :)

  305. bizrow says:

Get used to it, the season has 34some percent to go

This could just be the first of many big series ;-)

Of course, we could ask NMR

    Just to be sure ;-)

  306. cosmo says:

maybe he can get the boys back together for the after game concerts.

Oops, my bad, wrong Brian Wilson

  307. bizrow says:

Saw a lot of roughhousing today here

Some stuff from the usual suspects, but some from others.

A thought, from this seat in the peanut gallery.

Maybe we should kinda bond together and help each other get thru this race?

Our passion for the burgh is deep and solid.

From what I read here, and I’ve never been to Indianopolis, that I can remember, a lot of us either have not been thru a pennant race, or were too young to remember it.

IMO time for a little tolerance, time to get behind the Bucs

    Just sayin

  308. bizrow says:

    Evening Bay

    Do you live near Austin?

  309. bizrow says:

One thing I loved about Barry Sanders was when he would score this ridiculous touchdown, he would simply hand the ball to the Ref. When asked why, he just said, well, I’ve scored before. ;-)

  310. Nate83 says:

    Actually looked today.

    14 against the cards
    6 reds
    3 diamondbacks
    3 Texas

For a total of 26 games the other 33 are against below .500 teams including 13 against Colorado and San Diego and 12 against brewers and cubs.

  311. Matt hoffman says:

    Welcome Ken!

  312. theplanisworking says:

Tonights series easily qualifies for most over-hyped.

We play the Cards at PNC Labor Day weekend, I think.

Take them one at a time.

  313. theplanisworking says:

    Biz, I agree.

    Some dont want that.

    Their loss.

    Go like 60.

  314. theplanisworking says:

    Same with Johnny Stallworth.

  315. Brandie says:

    Good Evening all!

  316. JRay3 says:

Nice easy 1-2-3 for Liriano and we are underway in what should be an exciting five games featuring the top two teams in the NL.

Crowd looks great, fans are out in force for a Monday, 24/7 tweeted it is shaping up to be a lot of standing room only crowds this week.

  317. bizrow says:

    I know you do Roger

    A good start for Liriano

  318. theplanisworking says:

    MUPPET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good to see you. :)

  319. Brandie says:

    Rad Karen! How goes it?

  320. cmat0829 says:

its not sustainable…their bats will turn to ash and their hands will turn to stone, right?

  321. Brandie says:

    PLANET HIPPO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Goods vibes to ya!

  322. cmat0829 says:

rangers have dropped out b/c they have determined this club isn’t good enough to add to and they are building for 2014… a rangers team that was talking about rios was indeed desparate.

  323. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH !!!

    1-0 good guys.

  324. theplanisworking says:

    Planet Hippo?

Nice to have a blog legend here tongiht. ;)

  325. JRay3 says:

Walk, HBP and than Cutch liner his 56th RBI and Bucs strike first and quickly…Let’s Go Bucs!

  326. bizrow says:

    Not a shabby start??

  327. theplanisworking says:

    HOLY CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PEDRO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I GLADLY LOST PLAYOFFS LINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  328. Eric Bowser says:

    We own this…. OWN IT!

    Clutch RBI single
    …then boom Pedro

    4-0 Pirates

  329. BUCCOS!!!!! 1-0 , make that 4-0 now BUCCOS!!!!!

  330. JRay3 says:

The All-Star El Toro one swing and that is the damage he can bring….3 run shot and new NL Leader in HR’s with 27….he is a difference maker.

  331. Brandie says:

You rock my solar system! Also sending good vibes to Jandy, Rad Lad, Revvie, Milo, Groatmeal, Jimster, Drewbix Cube, etc.

  332. That should keep that buzz going at the ballpark.

  333. theplanisworking says:

    You’re a fine Lass, Brandie!

  334. Brandie says:

I can feel it….Thanks for the enthusiasm.

  335. stickyweb says:

Do I get triple odds if I said over 3.5 runs after 4 batters?

  336. cmat0829 says:

Moving veterans to face rookies is about trying to split the doubleheader and avoid the sweep…. I kind of like having our rookie throw in game 1 and let AJ pitch the nightcap….

  337. Brandie says:

I felt the Earth shake from here!

  338. theplanisworking says:

    Do the Hippo shuffle!

  339. Brandie says:

Always playing the angles, huh Sticky?

  340. Difference between two teams and two seasons. I went to the first three games in DC and that stadium took till at least half way to look like there were a lot of people in attendance. PNC right now is filled to gills and it was the top of the first. Go GI Jones with a double!

  341. JRay3 says:

Jones rips double and Westbrook is not rolling anybody…would be great to get to Cards pen early with two on tap tomorrow.

Maybe the Cards are the ones with Panic!

  342. JRay3 says:

They didn’t want to miss this first inning show.

  343. cmat0829 says:

WOW, what a start…. leadoff hitter for Bucs gets a WALK (when is last time that happened??)… Neil takes one off the feet, Cutch rockets in up the middle and Pedro murders an ‘on the platter’ batting practice fastball over the Clemente…..

Park is packed, I’m surprised…was hoping for 30K on a weeknight, the ‘Burgh is ‘all in’ for this team!!

Keep it going vs. the very hittable Westbrook… Cards will have to let him go some innings b/c they can’t overuse the pen with the DH tomorrow.

  344. Brandie says:

Down,Down, Do your Dance! Do your Dance! HIPPO on the Soul Train!!!!!!!!!

  345. JohninOshkosh says:

Would be great to see Liriano go deep tonight while the Cards dip into pen.

  346. theplanisworking says:

Used to love watching Soul Train growing up.
They played the music Bandstand didnt.

  347. cmat0829 says:

I agree, I’m just on record now as saying that if NH picks up an ‘impact bat’ in this trading year, he will have to overpay. And i do think he is leaning to doing that out of fear that last year’s history repeats itself.

I don’t blame him at all…. if it were me, I’d likely pull the trigger also… if Bucs falter, he will be fired and he doesn’t want to “strike out looking”…..

  348. Brandie says:

If all of the games are going to be like this, count me “All In”!

  349. JohninOshkosh says:

Anybody know why tomorrow’s double dip is a true twinight DH and not a day/night ? Missing gate sale on a full game.

  350. Dave G says:

And now… the next episode of “Neverett’s Numbers”

  351. Brandie says:

My mom says I got so excited as a small child over that train!

  352. Brandie says:

If twi-night, give me some Twi-Nght Dro!

  353. theplanisworking says:

Don Cornelius was the Man !!!

  354. cmat0829 says:

Not sure the Bucs have ever done the day/night thing… could be wrong… mostly it is because typically midweek games they don’t draw a ton and it is easier on the players to just go the regular DH….. so they weren’t worried about the gate….

  355. JRay3 says:

Great question….I don’t think the Pirates have ever held a day/night DH. I do know from a friend who works for the DBacks that have hosted one each of the past two seasons you do need to hire a few people to get park ready in limited amount of time.

Maybe that, parking-traffic issues play a role not for sure.

  356. Brandie says:

    The difference being?

  357. cmat0829 says:

Wow, two at bats for our leadoff hitter, two walks…

  358. JRay3 says:

Tabata doing his job in leadoff role tonight drawing two walks in two plate appearances.

  359. Milo Hamilton says:

The Brian Giles grand slam comeback against Houston was the day end of a day/night DH.

  360. JohninOshkosh says:

Just wondering. Nice to see a traditional doubleheader, though. I might be a bit tipsy by the end of one of those, though. Haven’t gone to a doubleheader since I was legal!

  361. JohninOshkosh says:

Westbrook not missing many bats. Looked completely dejected when he had to back up third.

Cutch’s speed comes to the ballpark everyday and the twin killer is killed!

  362. Matt hoffman says:

Glad to see us making Westbrook throw a lot of pitches already. Let’s wear their bullpen out the first game of the series!!!

  363. Milo Hamilton says:

July 28, 2001. It was the first year of the ballpark so they had a lot of sellouts.

  364. Brandie says:

Difference between crazy and insane. Depends on how many personalities we’re talking about.

  365. theplanisworking says:

    Good Evening, Milo.

  366. Milo Hamilton says:

    The man with the plan.

  367. JohninOshkosh says:

Great AB by Pete as he draws the walk.

  368. pattonbb says:

Lets go Bucs, blow this one wide open…

  369. Brandie says:

That MSN did for Afro Sheen what Pam Anderson did for boob jobs!

  370. cmat0829 says:

Cole Mania may be overrated but Bucco Mania lives… Monday night sellout, no fireworks, no promotions…. just good ol pennant fever.

  371. Eric Bowser says:

He’s locked in against Westbrook, great to see.

  372. pattonbb says:

    No Groupon?

  373. theplanisworking says:

Nice to have you in here for your knowledge.

Being I cant remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

  374. theplanisworking says:

    Only for the food. ;)

  375. JMB says:

  376. theplanisworking says:

    BANG !!!!! ;)

  377. JohninOshkosh says:

I’ll give Westbrook this. That was one gutsy 3-2 pitch with the bases juiced that got RM to chase. That might have settled Jake down. So time for Liriano to continue pitching you know what.

  378. Eric Bowser says:

Yeah that was a trust your pitch on 3-2.

  379. theplanisworking says:

I am glad I am watching the game tonight.

Last week, I went into a bar.
There were 3 heavy ladies at the bar………. and I detected them speaking with an accent.
I asked them if they were from Scotland.
    Its Wales, you idiot! Wales.
So I asked “are you whales from Scotland”?

Thats the last thing I remember.

Like I said, glad I am watching the game tonight. :)

  380. Milo Hamilton says:

That ball clearly bounced. You could hear it.

  381. Eric Bowser says:

Yeah, I thought I heard the double hit myself. I won’t argue with it.

  382. Brandie says:

Set a spell. Take your shoes off. Have a heapin’ helpin’ of blog hospitality!

  383. cosmo says:

the Brewers are doing this after the Braun suspension. $10 in food.

  384. JohninOshkosh says:

I know it’s early but call your friends and neighbors time? Francisco looks good this evening.

  385. theplanisworking says:

    Brandie, you are funny! :)

  386. JRay3 says:

Should have been an infield single, ump missed that one.

  387. Brandie says:

So far he is/owning the Dead-Birds!

  388. pattonbb says:

How can an ump miss a call that bad?

  389. They made up for the phantom foul out by calling Presley out at first.

  390. cosmo says:

close play but he did beat the throw

  391. Brandie says:

Playoffs should run a line on how many innings it will take CH to get tossed!

  392. JohninOshkosh says:

What a pleasure it is to watch Andrew McCutchen play baseball.

  393. Milo Hamilton says:

    Here’s Mr. RISP.

  394. Brandie says:

Moral of the Story…Act like You’ve Been there! Good lesson for the Pirates…

  395. JohninOshkosh says:

    RIP Mr. RISP.

  396. pattonbb says:

    Mr. K tonight

  397. cmat0829 says:

    Good pitching beats good hitting.

  398. Milo Hamilton says:

    Now there’s an upset.

  399. John Lease says:

    I want more runs.

    And I’m owed it.

  400. Milo Hamilton says:

What are you hearing from the Brewers camp ? Are they open for business & ready to sell ?

  401. Keith says:

Barmes breaks cardinal (npi) rule and lets pitcher lead off TWICE already.

  402. Jandy says:

I am Mother Theresa and I endorse this post ;)

  403. Keith says:

Walker hit twice in four innings.

  404. Jandy says:

Thanks for logging in, ken…and by the way, i endorsed your post at 6:05 pm :)

  405. Jandy says:

I can’t read all the posts and catch up….so hey, Bucs having a nice showing tonight…keep it up boys!!!!!

  406. Jandy says:

    + many

  407. cmat0829 says:

Per MLB Trade Rumors, Brian Wilson getting ‘close to signing’ and top suitors are Pirates and Giants… not quite sure what the Giants are doing but really makes sense for the Buccos….

  408. Jandy says:

    LOL grand idea, Brandimal!

  409. Jandy says:

    Hippos and whales, oh my!

  410. Milo Hamilton says:

Mystery team. It’s always the mystery team.

  411. Keith says:

Through four: Westbrook 86 pitches, Liriano 47.

  412. theplanisworking says:

    Hiya Mom T.

Little yoke for your enjoyment. :)

  413. Jandy says:

hey Keith, howdy! Does Biz have your hometown listed in Dejan’s Lunatics’ Asylum?
    Just wondering :)

  414. Brandie says:

Jandy!!!. Hugs and good vibes to ya, woman!

  415. theplanisworking says:

    and I just cant read.

    Good company we keep.

  416. Jandy says:

haha a good little yoke ;)

How are ya this evening Hipposter?

  417. JD says:

    - 82. You complain too much.

  418. Jandy says:

Hey hey, lady, good vibes all around, tonight :)

  419. Brandie says:

    Interesting take their, Groatmeal!

  420. Jandy says:

    excellent company indeed

  421. theplanisworking says:

    Swimmingly well.

    Nice day today.
    Great night for a ballgame.

Hopefully things are good in your Mallo Cup world.

  422. JRay3 says:

Liriano just carving the Cardinal hitter up, with each passing start he further cements his name in serious Cy Young discussion.

  423. Brandie says:

    RIF. Reading Is Fundamental!

  424. Jandy says:

aha! He knows about Mallo Cups!!
All is well here in Duncansville :)

  425. theplanisworking says:

  426. Jandy says:

  427. Jandy says:

    Dang Petey that was juicy!

  428. Jandy says:

  429. Keith says:

Someone needs to show Westbrook our list of injured players.

  430. Keith says:

Yep. For a couple years now.

  431. JohninOshkosh says:

They have been quiet. Laying low since Braun. But it sounds like they are shopping Lohse and Gallardo. Quite frankly, I haven’t heard much about moving Mr. Aoki. Which means, of course, he will probably get shipped-hopefully to the Pirates.

  432. theplanisworking says:

When the plant was on strike years ago, I wanted to get some Mallo Cups.

The guys picketing told me to go to the back entrance, and get some. They didnt even slash my tires !!

    Every time I am in Al-Tuna, I get a box. :)

  433. Brandie says:

Not a direction I would have thought of, but Liriano keeps it tidy and mows em down. Your argument has credence and the needed number proof to back it up. I like your way if thinking. JRAY 3 FOR PRESIDENT!!!..

  434. theplanisworking says:

And here I thought RIF was RAF’s cousin. Silly me.

  435. Milo Hamilton says:

Apparently they feel they have enough.

  436. Brandie says:

If Soul Train and Heavy Metal had a baby?

  437. theplanisworking says:

Please dont say “cement” to someone who grew up in a Mafia neighborhood.
    Bad memories.

  438. Jandy says:

And how often are you in Altoona, my Hippo friend??

  439. Brandie says:

    Groupon sounds so kinky.

  440. Milo Hamilton says:

The good news is it really hasn’t been rumored, other than us kicking it around here.

  441. Jandy says:

    YES! lol

  442. Jandy says:

    good :) Thanks!

  443. Brandie says:

    Revvie! Revvie!

  444. Jandy says:

  445. theplanisworking says:

    Not often enough. :(

  446. Jandy says:

  447. Milo Hamilton says:

    And here we go …

  448. Jandy says:

  449. Jandy says:

Now THAT was a timely K!

  450. Jandy says:

followed by a timely DP :)

  451. theplanisworking says:

    Neverrette tonight has called …………

    El Toro === El Tolo,
    Walker === Warner.

    Mute function now enacted.

  452. JRay3 says:

Just what the doctor ordered as Liriano dismisses Beltran and Holliday!

  453. cmat0829 says:

outstanding pitching by the Pirates ACE…. good to get on other side of Beltran and the walking DP Holliday….. Craig and Molina bat in the 7th, but it is setting up well to get this one to Melancon… let’s ADD ON says me and I’m sure incessantly Bob Walk on the radio…

  454. Jandy says:

heck yeah! Now to get a run or two more!

  455. cmat0829 says:

hoping in the DH we get double dose of Brown/Walker or at the least they switch off … watching Neverett/Blass a full 18 innings might be too much to bear….

  456. cmat0829 says:

oops, pulled a Neverett.. .meant Brown/Walk, not Brown/Walker.

  457. Jandy says:

OK now show Barmes some <3…that was a beauty!

  458. cmat0829 says:

One Clint making the other Clint look good… leadoff double…and the man is playing an effortlessly fine SS tonight, thank you very much.

  459. JRay3 says:

Barmes to the notch with a deep double, plus he has played very solid with the glove tonight, once again no problems with him in lineup.

  460. cmat0829 says:

Holliday in LF plays a very good 1B…..

  461. cmat0829 says:

JRay, you are on point, I think I will just wait for you to post what I’m thinking….

  462. Jandy says:

  463. JRay3 says:

Tabata absolutely stung that ball but has nothing to show for it. Nine more outs boys.

  464. Jandy says:

    Ahhhh nice K!

  465. Wild Bill says:

Your deserve the whole river marsh to yourself for that one!

  466. Matt hoffman says:

Lambo with another home run in Indy tonight. He could be the biggest bat we acquire before Wednesday!

  467. Jandy says:

  468. Matt hoffman says:

I am being sarcastic. I know it won’t happen.

  469. Jandy says:

well I wasn’t being sarcastic…if he hit a homer, it IS nice :)

  470. cmat0829 says:

Liriano is very good folks…. this is the best offensive team in beisbol he is carving through…..OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE… goes 7, keeps the nice lead, saves a lot of the bullpen….

  471. Big out on pitch 102 by Liriano! Get him some more runs!!!!

  472. PIT-AKR says:

Is it just my looking at Gamecast but looks like Frankie painting strike zone and getting balls called???

  473. cosmo says:

Was worth the wait, this year.

  474. Chuck H says:

Where did they find all these blind umpires???

  475. cosmo says:

    Good FA pick up.

  476. Milo Hamilton says:

I just checked, there’s no rule against scoring more runs.

  477. Jandy says:

Ahh yes, the over wins both line tonight :)

  478. Stuart says:

LIRIANO! YES! I have climbed all the way to zero on Playoffs game.

  479. theplanisworking says:

Maybe we need to send them some Groupons to help?

  480. Looks more than 32,000+ there at the game, but what do I know.

  481. Milo Hamilton says:

I’m calling a sacrifice fly. Right here, right now ! Russell Martin or Gaby Sanchez, whichever one hits here. Here we go.

  482. Thundercrack says:

Here at the ballpark they showed Martin over talking with Jay Bell. They were looking in at some papers in a binder

Hopefully they were looking at a diagram on how to hit a sac fly

  483. Jandy says:

LOL! I am still in the hole, Stuart, but climbing slowly out

  484. cosmo says:

What is that? Is it new.

  485. Jandy says:

LOL Milo and TC on a roll

  486. cosmo says:

I made to the positive side. Finally!

  487. Jandy says:

  488. Jandy says:

They borrowed the refs from the NHL ;)

  489. Gaby’s due. Come on buddy!

  490. Bob Hasis says:

If it hasn’t been said already, let me say it; Great strike zone awareness and Great patience at the plate.
No wild stupid swings – and misses

  491. Remember Gaby -a walk is a run.

  492. Jandy says:

    good call Milo!

  493. Dave G says:

    Was that a SAC FLY?

  494. Bob Hasis says:

Excellent maestro Milo – a sac fly

  495. You forgot about Martin with bases loaded earlier swinging at ball 4, but that’s over with.

  496. JRay3 says:

+1….you called it…and there’s your add on run.

  497. Jandy says:

    Good call, TC!

  498. Was that a sac fly? Am I dreaming?

  499. Bob Hasis says:

Was that my main man Presley?

  500. Steelag70 says:

    Will wonders never cease!!!!

  501. AP with a 2 out RBI. 6-1 now!!

  502. stickyweb says:

What is this sac fly thing they are talking about? And nice job Elvis tacking on some insurance

  503. JRay3 says:

Big RBI single for Presley as Bucs get to Cards bullpen.

  504. Jandy says:

Woooot!!!!! And another hit by barmes drives in more runs!!!!

  505. Bob Hasis says:

And my other main man – Barmes

  506. theplanisworking says:

1st Sac Fly since May 27th…………….. BARMES with a hit for 2 RBI’s

    8-1 good guys.

  507. Jandy says:

    I hope not! ;)

  508. Barmes with two shots to the Notch tonight!!! 8-1 now. Me likey!

  509. JRay3 says:

BARMES just continues to rake in July 2 more RBI’s and Bucs up 8-1!

  510. Jandy says:

    sure was@!

  511. stickyweb says:

And some of you guys didn’t like this is lineup.

  512. Jandy says:

    yup!!! :)

  513. TJ says:

Where is Bob at? I’m glad that CH had to panic and put Barmes in tonight.

  514. JRay3 says:

+1…I always knew you could come around.

  515. theplanisworking says:

Both threads today have over 520 posts.

I can safely say, no matter how you cheer for the team, Pirates fans do care.

  516. TJ says:

Ok lets stop; save some of these runs

  517. Jandy says:

oh Lord, another hit.,..Marte piles on!

  518. Steelag70 says:

This team never quits!! Love it!!!

  519. Dave G says:

Would love to see 4 more games like this one.

  520. Joining the Parte is Marte!! 9-1.

  521. Jandy says:

  522. Milo Hamilton says:

    .298 this month.

  523. TJ says:

LOL…. Bob you put up a fight earlier on Barmes.

Pick someone else who is struggling. Maybe your the lucky charm!!

  524. JRay3 says:

Even Marte snaps out his funk and gets into act with PH RBI single, are we having fun yet?

  525. Naterosboro says:

Gaby Sanchez hits the 1st sac fly to an OFer in 2 months (last 1 was May 27). They’ve certainly had numerous chances in the interim. For whatever reason, this team sucks at getting a man in from 3rd with less than 2 outs.

    But I digress…

    they’re winning the ball game.

6 more outs and then it’s

ON TO THE NEXT 1 (or 2…..)!

  526. Patrick(ri) says:

No negativity intended, but why not give this at bat to Harrison? As i write this Marte comes through, and that is a good thing, but I still wonder . . .

  527. TJ says:

I know I’m getting ahead of myself but screw TB and BOS; this game should be the main page of ESPN tonight.

  528. Naterosboro says:

See my post directly below yours.

    Answer: No, never.

  529. Bob Hasis says:

When good solid baseball is played, what is not to like?

  530. Naterosboro says:

And if that’s a Party Down reference, then I applaud you sir (or madam). Sorry, can’t see faces.

  531. pattonbb says:

    They got the message.

  532. TJ says:

Harrison has more versatility that should the Cards mount a miracle comeback he could be of more use later in the game. But I see your point.

  533. Jandy says:

  534. Bob Hasis says:

That’s why people love me; I’m not a pushover. You gotta earn my affection.

  535. TJ says:

520 posts divided by 10 lunatics only equals 50 per person.

  536. TJ, be happy they are actually showing the Bucs on Wednesday. I hear you, though. If BOS was playing NY, the Monday and Wednesday games would be them both.

  537. TJ says:

According to MLB Trade rumors teams have started to call about Barmes.

  538. Milo Hamilton says:

Really important that we use Tony Watson to protect this 8 run lead.

  539. TJ says:

    Kudos to you; and Barmes!

  540. Steelag70 says:

  541. TJ says:

    James McDonald was unavailable

  542. Steelag70 says:

    Agreed TJ!!

  543. Jandy says:

  544. Jandy says:

Cutch is getting quite the work out tonight

  545. TJ says:

Seriously; up 8 and still playing balls to the wall or to the ground on this play

  546. Drew71 says:

    A Tony La Russa moment.

8 run lead against a dread rival.

    Start plunking.

  547. Matt hoffman says:

I agree Jandy, it is nice to see Lambo doing well. I am would like to see him given a chance. I am frustrated that he probably won’t get that chance. I have seen him play several times in person this year and really like to watch him.

  548. JRay3 says:

Just another sick, hustle play by Cutch that not many OF’s make, an absolute joy to watch and a true superstar.

  549. Patrick(ri) says:

If B Wilson arrives and actually improves this bullpen, it will be an incredible group — one of the best of all time.

  550. cmat0829 says:

was thinking it might be a good time to get Vic Black in there…. but Watson had already warmed up and I dont remember when he was used last… Vic in the 9th to close it out?

  551. TJ says:

I’d rather see a Hurdle moment and pile it on

  552. Bob Hasis says:

Not many K’s tonight though, and in place of dumb swings, good balanced strokes for a lot of hits

  553. JRay3 says:

  554. Milo Hamilton says:

If he uses Melancon in the 9th I’m going down there & taking his gum.

  555. cmat0829 says:

well we know larussa era is over, we’d have had 6 pitching changes by now….. good news is that we got to Mr. Scrabble and Salas, two of their key bullpen pitchers…. helps our confidence when we face them later in the series….

  556. TJ says:

I honestly don’t think CH wants to give the Cards another run. I think he wants to set the tone and use the guys as if it were a 1 or 2 run game. That doesn’t mean Melancon but I don’t know if he’s going to give the Cards any hope.

  557. theplanisworking says:

    Where have you been?

    Drinking Bacon Beer?

  558. JRay3 says:

Watson comes in and makes the Cards look very elementary in the 8th.

  559. TJ says:

You might lose a finger or two getting near that jaw

  560. Jandy says:

    Now THAT’S a mean threat!!!!

  561. Milo Hamilton says:

    That’s a capital idea.

  562. Patrick(ri) says:

    And chew him out?

  563. Jandy says:

  564. TJ says:

A 5 game series is as rare as a Pirate sacrifice fly to the outfield

  565. Jandy says:

Bacon Beer. Sounds positively disgusting lol

  566. theplanisworking says:

    Good One, Sherlock.

  567. TJ says:

And there is Vic Black in the dugout. Shows you what I know

  568. TJ says:

Down to the Bucs and Giants. How would you not want to join the shark tank?

  569. Drew71 says:

I hate hyperbole. But really. Can we agree that Liriano is the best broken armed pitcher in baseball?

  570. Jandy says:

  571. JRay3 says:

And Victor Black gets the appropriate call to finish this one off tonight.

  572. Jandy says:

    we sure can

  573. TJ says:

Was that Josh Hamilton jumping into the stands in that Head N Shoulders commercial?

Good thing he was jumping for a ball and not tossing one.

  574. Jandy says:

I gotta say, I love seeing AJ and Locke interact in the dugout all the time. Thick as thieves

  575. Drew71 says:

    You know what they say.

    No Hits, Sherlock.

  576. TJ says:

He’s the best one arm man since the guy on the fugitive.

  577. TJ says:

Dude that is awesome about Grilli. Mad respect for that guy

  578. Jandy says:

Even better to see Cheese in there :)

  579. stickyweb says:

    Well played TJ

  580. Jandy says:

  581. Drew71 says:

    Oh please.

Please don’t let him do to Locke what he did to McDonald.

(How’s that for stoopid analogy of the day?)

  582. Milo Hamilton says:

    Mystery team.

  583. Jandy says:

JMac is a head case, nothing to do with AJ

  584. Patrick(ri) says:

    Shame on you.

  585. Drew71 says:

Jandy. There IS a bacon beer. Bacon-Maple-Syrup.

    No fooling.

  586. Jandy says: thanks. sounds utterly gross

  587. Drew71 says:

    Oh crap.

    Now I’m hungry

  588. theplanisworking says:

Food and drink all at once. ;)

  589. Drew71 says:

    Young Frankenstein

  590. Drew71 says:

  591. Jandy says:

  592. Drew71 says:

  593. TJ says:

Exactly why I didn’t want that joker in the game

  594. Jandy says:

Please, just get Black out of there. Please.

  595. Patrick(ri) says:

Putting Black in is a great idea, no matter how he performs.

  596. JUCOFan says:

OMG, Jerry Meals just blew a call at home tat may have cost the Red Sox the game to the Rays!!!

  597. TJ says:

I totally agree; after seeing him at the airport in capri pants I was sold that he was not all there

  598. How bout that for a make up HBP.

  599. Jandy says:

how do these jokers stay in the business?

  600. Jandy says:

PLEASE GET BLACK OUT OF THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  601. TJ says:

God dammit. This is a series. Your blowing them out of the damn park and you give them confidence. WTF

  602. JUCOFan says:

    Must have a great union!

  603. Steelag70 says:

    Ok….enough Black….

  604. theplanisworking says:

    Pancake beer?

  605. He needs a second pitch. Dang 9-2.

  606. Patrick(ri) says:

On the other hand, not taking him out . . .

  607. theplanisworking says:

    Um, he is white.

    Calm down ! ;)

  608. Drew71 says:

    Jandy. No fooling.

I’m reading from a package in my pantry.

    “Maple Bacon Premium Pancake Mix”

  609. Jandy says:

  610. Jandy says:

    Make some Drew!

  611. TJ says:

The Richmond Flying Squirrels are hosting the Anthony Weiner $1 hot dog night on Thursday. Fans are encourages to tweet their pictures during the game! BRILLIANT!

  612. JRay3 says:

Behind seven shutdown innings by Francisco Liriano who earns his 11th win, and coupled by the monster three run HR by Pedro Alvarez, a rare sac fly by Gaby Sanchez and two doubles from Clint Barmes the Bucs sink the Cardinals in the opener of this five game set 9-2 and there was noooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Bucs are back to 20 over .500 at 62-42, are now 4-2 against the Cards this season and are 11-12 in July. The Bucs move to within a 1/2 game of first place in the Central and hold a 8.5 game lead for a playoff spot.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon for a twi-night doubleheader with AJ Burnett throwing the opener and most likely Brandon Cumpton getting the call in the nightcap.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  613. theplanisworking says:

    RAISE THE JOLLY HIPPO !!!!!!!!!!!

  614. Jandy says:

    Raise it!!! hang it high!!!

  615. TJ says:

They should do like Hostess and move MLB overseas to avoid Unions.

For those that do not know Twinkies are back; but they are from China. Gives a whole new meaning to ding dongs

  616. Raise it and get some more tomorrow!!

  617. theplanisworking says:

    See you tomorrow, Miss jandy.
    Have a great night.

  618. TJ says:

    Statement game. Tremendous.

  619. Jandy says:

    You too, Hipposter :)

  620. Steelag70 says:

I think it might be time to start considering Liriano for the Cy Young..

  621. Milo Hamilton says:

Everyone named Huma admitted free ?

  622. Steelag70 says:

    Amen to that!!

  623. JUCOFan says:

I hope this is the Red Sox Meals’ moment

  624. twentytwo22 says:

    Two years too late, bro

  625. Lad9 says:

Raise it! Wow 9-2 win over the best team in baseball. I need to go on vacation more often.

  626. Wild Bill says:

Bucs open up a can on the Cards! The ill side of me had fun watching the Card fans looking like they stepped in something smelly. Seen too much laughing by them at PNC over the recent years.

  627. KenKopp says:

    Wow that was fun.

  628. Karen22 says:

Ohhh, yeah! That was a total “WOW” game!!

  629. Karen22 says:

Very well, thank you, Ms. Brandie!

  630. Drew71 says:

    I’m watching the Rays telecast.

They’re showing The Play At The Plate over and over.

The Rays’ paid announcers are saying they got away with one.

    Jerry Meals Calls It Safe.

As Ghostie likes to say, That’s Baseball.

  631. JUCOFan says:

  632. Karen22 says:

    Positively AbbyNormal!

  633. Brandie says:

    Rad Lad!!!!! Enjoy the vacation!

  634. Thundercrack says:

Is that where your wife makes you sleep now?

  635. Lad9 says:

Brandie! Was poolside yesterday and the guitar dude was playing “there’s a girl, in this harbor town….” and I immediately thought of you. Hope all is well my friend. Having a good time but dying to see the Buccos. Will see them Wednesday!

  636. NorthPirateFan says:

It was very promising to see Starling Marte and his .713 OPS on the bench against the RHP in the first game of this critical series. It almost makes me think the Hurdle and the Pirates’ front office are starting to see his limitations and gives me hope he won’t tanks this season as he did the last two.

Almost, because there was Jose Tabata in his place, who while doing okay last night is clearly no better a long term option in the lead off spot against vs RHP and virtually all the names being mentioned in trade talks are more of the same light hitting right handers the Pirates already have to many of and weighing down the offense.

  637. Baywatch says:

Don’t know if you’ll still get this, Biz: I live about 3 hours drive from Austin. My son lives there.
