  7. pattonbb says:

    Line 1 – 100 UNDER
    Line 2 – 100 OVER
    Line 3 – 100 OVER

  8. PirateFaninGA says:

Predictable. Team needs to see if Hughes’ sinker is back or not. If it is, he could be a nice middle inning piece while they wait to get Grilli back. Black will be back sometime in early Sept along with Reid and Welker to save some innings for the key names during games like last night. Black wasn’t ready for primetime, but this should help him in the long run.

Haven’t heard anything on Jeff Karstens. Is the guy even going to log an inning this year? I thought he would have been ready by Sept to take on roll of 2nd long man in the pen for the final month. But unlikely if he has not even started throwing yet, although he won’t need to be stretched out as a starter.

  9. Kevin says:

I haven’t see this announcement anywhere else yet, thanks Eric!

  10. Kevin says:

#1 – 100 cheesy fries on the under
#2&#3 – 100 sauteed potato pockets each on the over. Please and thanks, Mr. Playoffs, sir!

  11. Keith says:

    1. 100 on the OVER.
    2. 100 on the UNDER.
    3. 100 on the OVER.
    Thanks!

  12. SeanAY says:

Per Cory Giger, Taillon being moved to AAA.

  13. buggee says:

ahhh, it’s been awhile since I’ve enjoyed the utter thrill of the syntha-wager. Please accept my humble thanks for this entertainment, good sir, as well as my wagers on all 3 lines in which I state clearly and unequivocably…

    100 OVER!

    Raise the jolly shuttlecock!

  14. Eric Bowser says:

According to Cory Giger, Jameson Taillon is moving to AAA.

  15. Keith says:

Here’s a 40-man roster quandry: When McKenry went down, they put him on the 15-day DL, which keeps him on the 40-man. We know McKenry will be out for the season, seemingly making him a candidate for the 60-man, which opens up another spot on the 40-man roster. It would also give them only two catchers on the 40-man, which seems like too few. I mean, if somebody goes down, they have to bring someone up from AAA, and they have to be on the 40-man, so there has to be room.

So, the quandry leads to two questions: 1. Why are the Pirates keeping McKenry off the 60-day DL, and for how long? 2. Who will they replace him with on the 40-man when he does come off? Lambo or a catcher?

All this to say that I think they’re planning a strategy to bring up Lambo soon, but he has to be on the 40-man.

  16. JRay3 says:

I said last evening I was hoping this move would be made, now I just hope Hughes has that sinker working and can be a fresh addition that can aid this bullpen.

    Thanks for the update.

  17. Milo Hamilton says:

You can’t use the 60 day until you need it. The 40 man needs to be full before you can move someone from the 15 to the 60 to make room for an impending move.

  18. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Milo gets the square!!

  19. Dom says:

    About darn time!

  20. Jim S. says:

I believe Milo predicted it about an hour or so before the announcement. He knows things.

  21. Jim S. says:

Yeah, read it from a few people as well.

  22. Dom says:

Would they demote Presley if they call up Lambo?

  23. Milo Hamilton says:

More hits than IP at AA & not averaging a K an inning ?

  24. bizrow says:

    100 over line 1
    100 under line 2
    100 over line 3

    Thanks per usual, Playoffs

    Beat Em Bucs
    Go like 60

  25. Dom says:

    Just kidding around

  26. NMR says:

    23 starts at Low-A
    23 starts at High-A
    23 starts at Double-A

Get ready for Jameson Taillon’s Major League debut after the 2014 All Star break.

  27. Milo Hamilton says:

All good Dom. I was just surprised his numbers are so pedestrian.

  28. theplanisworking says:

    Bout time.

This bodes well for making the team out of ST next year.
( If he continues pitching well. )

  29. NMR says:

I could care less about AA numbers as long as he brings a big league changeup to the show.

  30. Milo Hamilton says:

Love the symmetry. How about we master AA first. Listen to me saying they’re moving guys along too fast. I need happy hour.

  31. theplanisworking says:

    Jim,

just wanted to say it was wonderful for you to offer Matt H. those gas cards for his trip.
    Well played, sir, well played.

  32. NMR says:

    Come on, plan.

    You know better than that…

  33. PirateFaninGA says:

    Nice piece of info. Thanks.

Also Kyle McPherson is not on the 60 day I believe. So one spot if you need another catcher at some point and the other when you want to bring up Lambo.

  34. theplanisworking says:

Think he might make it here out of ST next year?

  35. theplanisworking says:

    Thanks, Peter Marshall. !!

  36. BostonsCommon says:

If you remove his start from 7/13 when he got blasted for 10 runs on 13 hits in 3.1 IP, that first number goes away. And its not like 8.6 K/9 for the season is miles away from for you from 1K/IP. In his two starts since hes 12IP , 9 hits, and 13 Ks.
    .
He’s fine to move up and on his way to Pittsburgh next June. Be happy.

  37. theplanisworking says:

Hey, just floating a trial balloon………. sort of like Crumpton pitching this year :)

  38. theplanisworking says:

    Sorry……….. didnt see response above……

  39. NMR says:

I’m usually with you here, but I could stand to let him learn on the job like Cole is this year.

Bad precedent, since the guy is a freak, but watching Jose Fernandez over the first half has made me re-evaluate the whole prospect process.

Elite talent will always play through.

  40. PirateFaninGA says:

You just never really know at AA and below. With the Pirates emphasis on FB command, etc. you don’t know how many he is throwing. Teams could just be waiting for it if he is throwing it the majority of the time. let’s see how he does after he gets some AAA starts under his belt.

  41. Kevin says:

You are correct, sir… several hours ago he and JRay postulated that Vic should be sent down and Hughes should be coming up. I skimmed the morning java blog without reading much of it I guess. I was glad to see someone re-post the announcement anyway.

  42. 21sthebest says:

“You can’t use the 60 day until you need it. ”

I’m not exactly clear here Milo. Are you saying McKenry can’t go on the 60 day DL until he has been on the 15 day DL for the full 15 days? Or that he can go on the 60 day until they’re sure he’ll be out 60 days. Or something else?

  43. NMR says:

On talent alone, I don’t disagree at all…but I think we all know JT won’t be up for good until that magical date passes in June.

  44. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I hope Lambo is promoted soon…
Only so I can stop having to hear about him everyday.

  45. Milo Hamilton says:

You talked me into it. See, that was easy.

  46. theplanisworking says:

    Forgot about that.

    Well played.

  47. Jim S. says:

I agree with the sentiment that Black needs to head back down. He’ll come back up, in due time, and be more ready for the opportunity next time.

Hughes had some great stretches last year, but I am just not quite sold on him yet for some reason. As you say, though, if the sinker is working he can really help.

  48. bman says:

    @playoffs

Line 1: 100 on the UNDER
Line 2: 100 on the UNDER

    Thanks!!!

  49. theplanisworking says:

    FREE LAMBO !!!!

  50. NMR says:

Hey, since when do you wait for Happy Hour? :)

  51. Jim S. says:

    Yup.

  52. Kevin says:

where do you guys get this info about the 40-man, 60-day, 15-day, etc? I had no idea they didn’t have a full 40-man. Just curious if its listed somewhere and who’s all on the list.

  53. Milo Hamilton says:

I usually wait til Saturday but this week there’s no chance.

  54. Jim S. says:

I’m in Milo’s camp on this. I thought it was about earning your way to the next level? I’d like to hear the reasoning.

Won’t it be getting crowded at Indy? Makes me think there’s no room for Cole to come back there. Do we need Stormy any time soon? Or Cumpton gets more chances with the big club?

  55. 21sthebest says:

Just dbeat me to it. Check out Cole.

    13 starts at High-A
    12 starts at Double-A
    13 starts at Triple-A

  56. BostonsCommon says:

Perfect pace to be in Pittsburgh next summer. The other thing I like about how they are bringing him along is his workload. 142 IP last season. Already at 110 this year, with 5-6 regular season starts left, plus the playoffs, he could get up over 160. Which means he could push for 200 innings next year… No need to even bring up the idea of shutting him down like Strasburg.

  57. JRay3 says:

Jim – Enjoyed your entry on the other thread and saw where you may make it out to a few more road games this year.

Let me know if you will be in St Louis for the Sep 6-8 series always enjoy meeting up with with Bucs fans from here before the game.

Had a blast meeting @Playoffs by 2012 a few weeks back.

  58. NMR says:

piratesprospects.com actually has a terrific roster spreadsheet detailing who’s on, who’s off, how many options they have, what they make, model of first vehical, mothers maiden name, and just about anything else you’d imagine.

They update faster than the major league team site, from what I’ve seen.

  59. Milo Hamilton says:

No one can go on the 60 day until the 40 man has 40 players on it – AND – you need to shift someone from the 15 to the 60 to remove them from the 40 man to make room to add someone else.

  60. Jim S. says:

Thanks, plan. But, really, no big deal. Matt’s post got me. I think he has an occupation where you give up a lot of material things. I sure hope I have to pay off now.

  61. 21sthebest says:

Never mind Milo, I got it.

  62. JRay3 says:

Good afternoon to the window and TGIF! A weekend series with the sub .500 Rockies awaits and time to build off the momentum created during the five gamer with St Louis.

    Line 1 – 100 on the UNDER

    Line 2 – 75 on the UNDER

    Line 3 – 100 on the OVER

    Thanks and Let’s Go Bucs!

  63. NMR says:

“Earn” seems to never be defined by numbers with this organization, Jim.

They challenged him early this year to work out his changeup before earning promotion, even if he gets hit around using it.

Looks like the challenge was met.

  64. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Maybe he can be our Shane Spencer.

  65. Jim S. says:

Thanks, JRay. Sept. 6-8 is a possibility, but as I check my schedule I have a few kids’ events that weekend. If I can make it, though, I would love to say hello and maybe hoist a cold one.

  66. 21sthebest says:

Thanks. I said we had 39 on the 40 man the other day and I was told we had 40 with the acquisition of Andino, which made no sense to me since he wasn’t on Seattle’s 40 man.

  67. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    ANDREW LAMBO aka:Shane Spencer 2K13

  68. Jim S. says:

    Good point.

  69. theplanisworking says:

    HA!

Long as he isnt another Jerry Sands. :)

  70. Jim S. says:

    So, if he’s sitting on a 4.82 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP 23 starts from now …

  71. Dom says:

Spencer had a good career didn’t he?

  72. cosmo says:

Do I see a special window line opening soon? “How many days til Lambo arrives in Pitt”

  73. Milo Hamilton says:

A great payroll list also, very detailed.

  74. cosmo says:

    John Bowker?

  75. NMR says:

There’s a good chance he’s not doing what he needs to succeed in the show.

  76. kr70 says:

    1-100 on the over
    2-100 on the over
    3-100 on the over
    and thanks

  77. Matt hoffman says:

    Hey JRay
My wife and I might try to make one game of that series as we are not far from St.Louis and I have some parishioners that get Cardinal tickets from the coal mine where they work! If so, I will let you know and we can meet. Maybe Jim S. can make it also?
I hope Hughes can get back that aggressiveness and attitude he had for awhile last year. That is the biggest difference I see with him, he tries to avoid the plate too much in my opinion instead of saying “here’s my best pitch, good luck”!

  78. Jim S. says:

    Soupy Sales for the block.

  79. Jason81 says:

I’ll take 100 on the OVER for all 3 lines, please!

  80. Playoffs by 2012 says:

He had an amazing run in September and October of 1998.
If Andy Lambo could equal that…..well I’ll let you do the imagining ;)

  81. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Negative Mr. Kramer.
But as soon as he does show up, I can guarantee you he will make his Window debut as well.

  82. theplanisworking says:

Red Foxx would like to have a word with you. :)

  83. Matt hoffman says:

We need “like” buttons on here like facebook has! Lol

  84. Milo Hamilton says:

He sure did. But they were going to be OK without him. :)

  85. Jim S. says:

But, the symmetry? The symmetry must be respected.

Didn’t Nostradamus … or Notre Dame alumnus … or someone like that foretell of this?

  86. Bob Hasis says:

Actually, the idea came from Milo and JRay3, the BMTIB agreed with it and the reacted accordingly.

  87. Jim S. says:

Ok, right after Rich Little answers the next question.

  88. JRay3 says:

Matt – that would be great.

I remember talking to Jared Hughes in San Diego last August as he was conversing with a group of fans, some I think he knew. He mentioned to them his off-season plans after the team got done with the World Series.

I thought to myself at that time what a great mentality and attitude he had which I thought would serve him well in his role. When he has that edge (like when he defended a team mate from getting plunked) he can throw shutdown innings.

This year has gone a little sideways for him, I just hope he gets some early confidence going again and can help eat some innings.

  89. theplanisworking says:

Paul Lynde on line 1, Jim……………..

  90. NMR says:

Ah yes, The Plan is The Plan until it’s not The Plan. -BMTIB

  91. Matt hoffman says:

    Hey Plan.
I am not saying Sands should be called up or is even anything great at Indy, but did you get a chance to check out his assist from Indy’s game last night?
Wish I knew how to share the link on here! It was a GREAT throw.

  92. theplanisworking says:

    Yes, Madam Cleo.

  93. Jim S. says:

Is he the guy from Sha Na Na?

  94. Playoffs by 2012 says:

You;re gonna need Jim J. Bullock for the win.

  95. Lad9 says:

Over on all three for 100 Mr Playoffs sir. Thank you once again. Go Buccos!

  96. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I believe that is our very own Eric Bowser.

  97. theplanisworking says:

Matt, I would offer you accomadations in the Pond, but I really dont think you would enjoy sleeping in the water like I do…………….

  98. Jim S. says:

Not to be confused with Sean Spence … although, ironically, I may have them confused.

  99. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Had it not been for Shane Spencer the might have only won 112 games that season.

  100. theplanisworking says:

In that case, we all lose. ;)

  101. MarkV says:

    line 1 – 100 under
    line 2 – 50 over
    line 3 – 100 over

    Beat ‘em Bucs!

  102. Matt hoffman says:

I do agree with you Plan, overall he is not a very good baseball player. I have watched a LOT of Indy games in person the last 5 years and I am very rarely wrong about who is ready or not. I will say that Lambo has been impressive in the field and his power is very comparable to Alvarez when he was at Indy. I have NO doubt that Lambo is ready. He is NOT a AAAA player.

  103. Dom says:

Or Shawn Spencer, the protagonist on the show Psyche.

  104. Milo Hamilton says:

Well. Shane Spencer suffered a terrible knee injury in July of 2000 costing him the rest of the season. Happened at Shea Stadium if memory serves. So, they have that in common.

  105. Matt hoffman says:

I was at that game in Cincy where he plunked the Reds player and jawed at him. Would like to see that toughness back.

  106. Hal Smith says:

Playoffs – another great contest.. Thanks

    #1 100 over
    #2 100 under
    #3 100 over

  107. Milo Hamilton says:

And only won the division by 20. :)

  108. NMR says:

I think I speak for a lot of people here in saying that we’d love to hear more “eye-witness” accounts of these guys from you.

I personally get a bit tired of reading the same scout-speak over and over. It’s refreshing to get reports from real guys like you that talk on our level.

    Thanks!

  109. NMR says:

Speaking of the 40-man, yikes. Gonna be a loooooot of house cleaning to do.

But we’ll have plenty of time to debate the 39th man protected this winter, I’m sure. :)

  110. Jim S. says:

I would say he would be the likely candidate, Dom.

I am not convinced Lambo is coming up, though. If Presley hits horribly, maybe. But, it is a lot to expect of Lambo to come up for the first time and make a big impact. Would be a great development.

  111. JAL says:

Andino did go on the 40–there are 39 players on the 40, or one open spot. Although technically they have one open spot realistically they have two since they can move McKenry to the 60 if they need a second spot on the 40. In short, pick up a player and fill the 40 then pick up a second player and move McKenry to 60. Players on the 60 have to be put back on the 40 at season’s end of they can be lost. Right now pirates have 3 on the 60 but word is Irwin might be activated soon. That would leave Karstens and JMac on the 60.

  112. JAL says:

left out not–Andino did not go on the 40

  113. Milo Hamilton says:

Keep it coming Matt. Thank you & let us know when you’re coming to town.

  114. Jim S. says:

Yes, they do. Speaking of Sean Spence, I never know what to believe. It sounds as though the Steelers really thought he was going to be a star before the injury. What a great story it would be, if he could find a way back 100%.

I thought Dan Mason was going to pull off a miracle like that last year, and then it fell apart on him.

  115. NMR says:

How awesome would it be if the Pirates gave Kelly Shoppach a million dollar major leaue contract to backup Martin for two months, just so he wouldn’t sign with St. Louis while Yadi Molina’s out.

    They ain’t my doll hairs!

  116. blazer says:

100 on all three lines for over please!

  117. Jim S. says:

What part of Indy do you live in, Matt? We lived in Fishers for two years between 2002-2004, and absolutely loved it. When I said I had been offered a job there, my wife (who was born and raised in Chicago) said, “Why would we want to move there?” A month after the move, she fell in love with the area. When he had to move back two years later, she cried about leaving Indy. She still misses it.

We were fairly close to Geist Reservoir. The people of Indianapolis are terrific.

  118. Jim S. says:

    FREE KELLY SHOP-VAC!

  119. Jim S. says:

    Ah yes, Madam Cleo. Priceless.

  120. Jim S. says:

Paul Lynde was a mainstay, plan.

I’m actually laughing out loud on Jim J Bullock.

    Scoey Mitchell, anyone?

  121. Milo Hamilton says:

By the way, you do know the Rockies are going to win 2 out of 3 this weekend. Better make sure we get the 1.

  122. Jim S. says:

Fantastic recap, JAL. Really. Your knowledge of this is amazing.

That was the part of MLB GM school where I had to drop out.

  123. Matt hoffman says:

I live in SW Indiana, about 100 miles from Indy, but I have to go to one of the hospitals there about once a week to see parishioners/pray with them before surgeries…etc. And if the Indians are playing? Well….the Lord wouldn’t mind if I stuck around as long as my work was done, would He??? Yes Fishers is great!

  124. Drew71 says:

How bout we pay the cards a million dollars if they AGREE to sign Shoppach.

    Stinks.

Watched him with the Rays. Lost his job to a converted outfielder who couldn’t catch.

An all star pitcher who threw to him (different team) said he was the worst catcher in MLB. this was neither reported nor rumor. It was told to me personally. The advantage of living in spring training land, with easy and sometimes accidental access to players.

  125. Dadtackular says:

Line one. 100 geodes on the under
Line two. 100 sandstone on the under.
Line three. 100 granites on the over.

  126. Jim S. says:

    Credit to JRay as well.

  127. JRay3 says:

I sure hope not, peering ahead to the Marlins series, the Bucs are slated to see the same exact pitching set – Alvarez, Koehler and Fernandez and we saw how two of those arms fared.

  128. Milo Hamilton says:

They’re going to see 3 pitchers in the next 6 games that are better than anything the Cardinals had to offer. And I left Henderson Alvarez out of that mix.

  129. Jim S. says:

Their two best go tonight and tomorrow. The Bucs have not “missed” anyone this year, it seems.

  130. Jim S. says:

Wow! Thanks for the detailed report, Drew.

  131. Jim S. says:

God is a baseball fan. I truly believe that, Matt! Haha! Enjoy the weekend!

  132. radio wave says:

After playoffs: I will take over on number one. I will take the under on the number two. I will take over on number three. Headed to the park right now.

  133. JD says:

Hey Playoffs. I’m in Ireland and can’t follow the game but will place 100 Guinness on the over for each line.

  134. theplanisworking says:

    Charlie Weaver??

  135. theplanisworking says:

    ZING !!!!!

  136. Keith says:

Well, they missed Shelby Miller, but since that Joe guy blanked ‘em, it didn’t really matter.

  137. Bob Hasis says:

The best record in baseball does get the attention of the impending opposition, and that is what this team of ours had better be prepared for – no soft touches or guys making their “maiden voyage” on the mound, henceforth

  138. Bob Hasis says:

I’m sure the Cards felt THEY would take 4 of 5, otherwise we probably would have gotten him in the 1st game

  139. JohninOshkosh says:

    Awesome JD-Have a blast Irishman !

  140. Frankie says:

    100 each

    Line 1 over

    Line 2 over

    Line 3 over

  141. Joey Mellons says:

100 and over on all three lines. Thanks.

  142. theplanisworking says:

Do you bribe your sources with bacon beer?

  143. JohninOshkosh says:

Missing tonight’s game as in-laws are taking me to see an Elvis impersonator.

    Somebody shoot me….

    …please.

Enjoy the game Bloggers. Even if they lose, remember things could be worse. Believe me.

  144. Matt hoffman says:

Here is my “eyewitness opinion” on each player in Indy.

1B: Matt Hague-another Steve Pierce, Matt was better a few years ago before his stint in the Burgh than he is now. He is one that I misjudged, I really thought he would be above average at Pittsburgh, if not a near all-star! We all can miss once in awhile can’t we?

2B: Chase D’Arnaud: Again, not as good as he was 2 yrs ago. Decent defensively, not that good offensively. Not as quick as he once was.

SS: Brian Bocock: surprisingly impressive despite his stats. Seen him make all the routine plays and a few really good plays. His biggest knock is his bat, but when I have watched him, he looks pretty good at the plate. He is a player that could help the Pirates now if he were on the 40 man roster and called up!

3B: Russ Canzler: Hits ok, not good. Terrible defensively, especially his arm. Can’t throw it accurately to first even warming up!

RF: Andrew Lambo: very solid, if not really good defensively. Strikes out a lot, but enormous power AND gets a lot of base hits on balls he puts in play. He is our solution NOW in RF.

CF: Felix Pie: solid ballplayer all around with good speed. Another Nyjer Morgan without the drama.

OF: Darren Ford: not a defensive liability, neither can he hit.

LF: Jerry Sands: he is good for a home run once in a while, but all around, just not very good. Seems like a good guy that is good for the clubhouse though.

SP: Stolmy Pimentel- live arm, electric stuff and attacks the strike zone. He will be in the rotation next year! Another James McDonald without the head issues!!! He will surprise everyone in my opinion.
Brandon Cumpton- I missed this one, I didn’t think he would succeed like he has. He seems to be more focused when he starts at Pittsburgh.
Kris Johnson- good, but old. He would be average in Pittsburgh if ever called upon. Crafty lefthander
Graham Godfrey- not great stuff, overachieves. If he did well in Pittsburgh (and I believe he could if ever given the chance), it would be because he is mentally tough.

RP: Duke Welker. Good stuff, but would get the same results as Vic Black.

These are just my opinion based on what I have seen, so please don’t get upset if you disagree with me. Right now there are 2 players that I think could really be differencemakers in the Burgh. Stolmy and Lambo.
    Thanks for letting me spew.

  145. JRay3 says:

Hysterical, how did you get so lucky? Have fun!

  146. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Playoffs……….

May I please have the following?

Line 1 — 100 Hippos on the UNDER.
Line 2 — 100 Hippos on the OVER.
Line 3 — 100 Hippos on the OVER.

    Thanka Youa verya mucha.

  147. theplanisworking says:

    Mr. Playoffs……….

    Thanka Youa verya mucha.

  148. theplanisworking says:

Be careful not to get married by him…………..

  149. Matt hoffman says:

Btw: I think I have seen enough of Morton to say that he is a liability. He is always behind the count on hitters. Bring up Cumpton or Pimentel and just release Charlie!

  150. Irish says:

    Line 1, 50 on Over
    Line 2, 50 on Over
    Line 3, 100 on Over
    Thanks, Playoffs!

  151. theplanisworking says:

    Thank You for this.

As NMR said above, nice to see a report from a fan, as opposed to scout-speak, or BMTIB-speak.

Lambo and the Olive should have already been up here to see what they could do.
Now, we have to wait til September callups, and throw them into a pennant race.

  152. Drew71 says:

It’s spring training. It’s that lifestyle.

  153. Bob Hasis says:

I’m curious, without doubting one word of your analysis Matt, how bad is that league?

They have the second best record out of 14 teams, and your characterization of Indy makes them sound very mediocre.

Have we (Pittsburgh) already taken the cream – Presley, JHay, T. Sanchez and ALL of their best pitchers?

  154. Matt hoffman says:

    Bob
Indy will/has fallen off quite a bit since we have grabbed these players. There is a difference obviously between AAA and the majors, but it is all about consistency. A blind squirrel can even find a nut once in awhile, in baseball terms, Jerry sands would hit a home run once in awhile at Pittsburgh also, but for the most part, we would regress to the Pirates of the last 20 years.

  155. Olive may get it handed to him. Hope not, though.

  156. Bob Hasis says:

Yes that was basically what I was asking; did Pittsburgh weaken them so broadly by calling up their best? Most likely the pitchers making the deepest cut into the talent pool?
So it seems necessary for Indy so bring up some talent from Altoona or elsewhere.

  157. Bill Born says:

    All for 100
    Line 1 under

    Line 2 over

    Line 3 over

    Thank you for your work!!

  158. Bob Hasis says:

    to bring up. . . . .

  159. Matt hoffman says:

Indy is still very good for a AAA team. Dejan said it right, that last year we lacked depth. We are all seeing now that depth is reflected at the minor league level and we have great pitching depth.
Wait a couple of years for some real fun when we have position player depth (Polanco, Hansen, etc). Fans (myself included) have been frustrated with management at times, but let’s give credit where it’s due, they are getting this turned around and it’s only going to get better.

  160. Jim S. says:

True, but Miller has been in a bit of a rut.

  161. theplanisworking says:

    Rev. Howdy.

I just want the Olive up here so I can hear the 50 mis-pronounciations of his name.

Hope this Friday evening finds you well.

  162. Karen22 says:

    75 each: OVER!!

    Let’s GO Bucs!!

  163. stickyweb says:

    Playoffs,
    100 Over line 1
    100 Under line 2
    100 over line 3

    Thanks

  164. Matt hoffman says:

I had nothing on DeJesus, because he hasn’t got to play much every stinkin time i’ve gone this year!

  165. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Sláinte!!

  166. Chuck H says:

Forget right field, we have someone to play right field (Presley) who can hit. We need someone to play first base who can hit. I predicted that the Jones boy would hit into a
double play. I said to my wife when he came up,” he’s good for two outs”, and so it was.
Also, why doesn’t Hurdle tell his players to swing at the first pitch, because it’s probably the best pitch in the at-bat. Most good pitchers like to get ahead in the count Wouldn’t hurt to try it. GO, BUCS!!!

  167. theplanisworking says:

I swear, I just saw someone dressed up in a cow costume in the crowd.
    Honest.

  168. pattonbb says:

    ***BREAKING NEWS***

A-Rod homers in his 2nd at bat with the Trenton Thunder.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

  169. Milo Hamilton says:

If Neil Walker wasn’t so slow we’d be winning 3-1.

  170. Milo Hamilton says:

Of course if he didn’t have 2 doubles …

  171. JD says:

Thanks OshKosh and Playoffs. My brother and I are back at our Inn. We’ve bad many pints, but just cracked open another and just tuned in the game on his phone. Go Bucs!

  172. theplanisworking says:

Maybe we get him a plaque being it will be his last HR before the lifetime ban……..

  173. Patrick(ri) says:

Ah, he is just like Tabata, lazy and doggin it.

  174. pattonbb says:

    Now you’re speaking my language….

    :)

  175. Milo Hamilton says:

You’re just trying to bait me. :)

  176. Ghost says:

It bothers me too, but I understand the various reasons why. Mainly, hitters want to see the action on a pitcher and consider it worth a strike. Also, it’s better for the team as a whole to work counts and drive up pitch-counts. Ted Williams never, ever, offered at the first pitch. Pitcher knew it was a free pitch to throw down the middle and Williams still let it go. Worked out pretty well for Williams, though.

  177. Bob Hasis says:

If Pedro wasn’t trying for the river, and would have hit that second pitch – a slow lazy curve on the outside edge – into left as he should have, well 2-1 anyway

  178. Ghost says:

Cards beating the Reds 5 – 0 in the third.

  179. Patrick(ri) says:

Ya think? I don’t count you among the Tabata haters. A reasonable critic, no doubt. On a serious note, it seems to me Walker is slowed by his recent injuries. Injury and fear of re-injury, no doubt takes a slice of speed off the top.

  180. Milo Hamilton says:

Oh, I’m at the head of the list of Tabata haters. I’ve laid off him this year because the effort is there. He still stinks.

  181. Chuck H says:

There’s not many first basemen in the league who can’t hit, but the Jones Boy is one of them. Two times up and two double plays. Not his day. He needs help.

  182. Patrick(ri) says:

There is evidence to support your view of his “effort.” Having taken my only leave-of-absence from Prate fandom because I could not take watching “joggin George,” I know obvious lack of effort when I see it. However, never having played a professional sport with an injury, I am less certain about some of the claims about Tabata. The other night, it looked like Walker just gave up on a hit to center field near his position. It would be easy to scream “go for it, you lazy bum,” but for all I know, he made a reasoned choice, based on his current health?

  183. pattonbb says:

Does Cole seem more animated than usual tonight?

  184. Patrick(ri) says:

Btw, I am aware there is an i in Pirate (I got nit picked for leaving the h off the end of Pittsburgh).

  185. The Gunner says:

I agree with you on Morton. This is our 3rd or 4th year of watching the same types of performances from him. We can’t win the division with him in the rotation.

  186. The Gunner says:

    Milo

I hate Tabata as much as if not more than you. Not only does he wreak, he desecrated the Great One along the way.

  187. Milo Hamilton says:

We’ve been removing the “P” around here for about 20 years.

  188. The Gunner says:

It’s Lambo time, Buc fans. I think Jones is done

  189. Patrick(ri) says:

When and how? Clemente is one of my heros (who was accused of malingering in his day).

  190. Milo Hamilton says:

Wilson’s location is way off. Ticking time bomb.

  191. The Gunner says:

We’re stuck with Tabata for the time being. The good news is that the Bucs face lefties about 30% of the time. So, we don’t have to look at him that much.

The Bucs appear to be unravelling at this point.

  192. Patrick(ri) says:

It looks like we are regressing to the norm with respect to lucky breaks & weird hits.

  193. Bob Hasis says:

    . . . .and weird moves

  194. Not a good night again for the Bucs. 4-1 deficit now. offense not doing mucha gain unless you call hitting into DPs doing something.

  195. Milo Hamilton says:

    Kaboom.

  196. The Gunner says:

Oh geez! A tweener! C’mon Buccos!!

  197. Don’t care if you throw 97+ all the time, you have to eventually throw some other pitches to get the timing off for these hitters.

  198. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Lambo would have been able to pitch out of that jam.

  199. Patrick(ri) says:

    +1

  200. Reading says:

How about the Pirates stop looking at strike one. Let’s get aggressive.

  201. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Lambo would have tied the game last inning.

  202. Patrick(ri) says:

    Not to mention strikes 2 & 3.

  203. Milo Hamilton says:

Alex Presley just bunted with 2 outs & Clint Barmes on deck.

  204. Dave G says:

So then Barmes is our leadoff hitter next inning.

    Nice.

  205. At least we will still be in first place by 0.5 games.

  206. Doesn’t seem like the bullpen has been fooling anybody the last couple games.

  207. twentytwo22 says:

After losing the series to the Marlins last weekend, I expected them to play this series with something to prove. It’s been a weak effort tonight.

  208. Let down game after those five with STL. Hitting into those three rally killing DPs early in the game certainly didn’t help.

  209. 4-2 now. Nice hit PEDRO. Come on Bucs!! Hits!

  210. And nice hit before by Cutch. Missed the homer by a little over a foot.

  211. Thundercrack says:

“That ball is going to the wall”

As the right fielder picks it up in front of the track.

    Just love Nevrett

  212. Get them tomorrow. Don’t let this turn into the Marlins series, though. We need the next two games.

  213. T.S. says:

Pirates’ bench weakness continues to be exposed. Gaby Sanchez is weak. Josh Harrison is weak. Presley: weak. And Garrett Jones, not too good. Trade deadline zero gonna come back to haunt them. And don’t know how much luck Huntington is going to have with the waiver deadline, considering their league best record (for the time being) puts them last on the claim ladder. Plus the bullpen is coming back to earth. Hope we don’t see a slide.

  214. Eric Bowser says:

    2 things I didn’t like tonight…

    1) 6th inning, 1 out, runners at 1st & 3rd and Troy Tulowitzki comes to the plate. Cole is taken out and in comes lefty Justin Wilson and not Jared Hughes, a groundball pitcher.

    2) 9th inning, LHP Rex Brothers on the mound and Neil Walker is hitting right-handed with Jordy Mercer available on the bench.

  215. Steelag70 says:

And NH couldn’t pull the trigger on any trades….
