  1. BostonsCommon says:

I’m definitely not an Andrew Lambo champion, but if NH is seriously considering him as an option, doesn’t get need to get him up here for some ABs? You already know exactly what Presley is going to give you, same with Tabata. Why not get Lambo a look. You can always get Presley back up before sept. 1st.

  2. tdb1977 says:

First of back to back games for me tonight. Really want to see a Pirates victory tonight. Overall season record has not been that good so far this season (6-7) but tonight starts a long winning streak for me.

Did anyone catch Dejans tweet on a blogger from Usomething? The person that is turning into a PBC Fan?
I hit the erase button before I wrote the place down

    Beat Em Bucs

  4. Jandy says:

A lot of people have been saying that, Boston. The counter that others make is you don’t bring him up in a pennant race.
I’d like to see what he can do. Like you said, if he doesn’t work out, send him back and bring Presley back up. Or stick with Tabata if he gets/stays hot.

  5. Jandy says:

    Bring home the W tdb!!!

  6. Jandy says:

Did anyone catch Dejans tweet on a blogger from Usomething? The person that is turning into a PBC Fan?
I hit the erase button before I wrote the place down.

    I didn’t see it, I’m not a twit ;) Anyone???

  7. Jandy says:

Newbies or lurkers, we want to chat with you.
If you post your hometown, Bizrow will add it to the list of Dejan’s Lunatics’ Asylum.
    Don’t be shy, we don’t bite :)

  8. Tom P. says:

The Pirates have historically (and perhaps notoriously) struggled against pitchers with whom they are unfamiliar. Does anyone have an opinion whether they will fair better against Alvarez tonight, having seen him 10 days ago?

  9. Dave says:

Mariners released Bay. Any chance the Pirates grab him?

  10. BostonsCommon says:

I get that, and am actually probably on that Side of the argument, thinking that you don’t want to mess around right now. But if that’s the case, why is NH giving interviews saying that he’s a possible internal option, when he can just as easily say that he doesn’t want to put Lambo in that situation, or he could be an option, next spring?

He’s just running out of time if he wants to give Lambo a fair shot and actually give him a few weeks of ABs before making a decision.

  11. Tom P. says:

Enjoy the game. Feel free to give us some insight before, during or after.

  12. Jandy says:

I would think they should be, since it’s not that long ago.
But with these guys, one never knows!

  13. Jandy says:

Since I agree with you, Boston, I can’t answer that question lol

  14. Zack says:

Alvarez’ number 1 pitch is a 2-seam fastball. His ground ball rate in his last 3 starts is 53% which is very good. The pirates only reached base 3 times (2 hits, 1 walk) against Alvarez on July 26th in miami. Alvarez hasn’t surrended a home run this year. Pirates will need to hope Alvarez makes a mistake with his 2-seamer by leaving it up in the zone and take advantage of it. I’m expecting a low scoring game tonight. Both teams have an outstanding record when leading after 6 innings because both teams have a great bullpen.

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

    Looking for the current standings?

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Tonight’s Line
Total COMBINED RUNS SCORED by Starling Marte + Neil Walker + Andrew McCutchen in tonight’s game
    Line is 2.5

Please Note – All games must be considered official games in order for line(s) to be valid. Any postponement, cancellation, or suspension of game(s) will void line(s).

    GOOD LUCK!!!

67 Down, only 15 more to go!!

  19. Jandy says:

great breakdown, Zack. Might help how I wager on Playoff’s line tonight :)

  20. pattonbb says:

Have fun, tdb. Get us a win.

  21. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Yes… a non-roster invitee for Spring Training 2014.

  22. Zack says:

Thanks man. Marlins and Pirates fan. Been watching both teams games all year.

  23. War Horse says:

100 on the Under, please, though I hope I’m wrong.

  24. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Zach stole my thought.
    Well done sir.

The Pirates struggle against sinker ball pitchers.
If his sinker is working tonight, it could be another repeat.

But if his sinker is off, then we could see a singles/doubles bonanza.

  25. Milo Hamilton says:

  26. Playoffs by 2012 says:

TDB, you’re gonna need to improve that record for the playoffs :)

  27. Jandy says:

eh….not so good on Marlins…lol. Root for the Bucs tonight.
Zack, does Biz have your hometown listed on his list? We’d love to add you if it’s not :)

  28. Zack says:

Henderson Alvarez’ last 3 starts: 2-0 record, 20.1 innings pitched, 13 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 walks, 7 strikeouts.

  29. Jandy says:

So, Mr. Playoffs, what are the odds that Alvarez is off his sinker???

  30. theplanisworking says:

Why dont you leave a trail of Scooby snacks to catch some of these lurkers??? ;)

  31. Jandy says:

pssst..I’m female, but please don’t hold it against me ;)

  32. Arriba Wilver says:

At the risk of sounding , oh, I don’t know, like Neal Huntington maybe, .500 at this point is a done deal, and in a way, meaningless, at least to me. And I was on the bandwagon for breaking the streak. But this team needs to compete in the post-season this year.

  33. Jandy says:

    Now that’s a capital idea!

  34. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Gotta hope (as a Bucs fan) that tonight is an off night, and locating the sinker is an issue.
The pitches that are put in play find the gaps in the infield/outfield.

Also, sorry I spelled your name wrong.

  35. Jandy says:

So, AW, with the team playing well, you’ve changed your expectations?

  36. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I’ll let you know in the 6th inning ;)

  37. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    One milestone at a time…..

  38. theplanisworking says:

I propose that we trade Travis Snider, and Nick Kingham to the Yanks for A-Roid.
Then, we can call up Lambo.

  39. tdb1977 says:

    I know! I know! I know!

  40. Zack says:

No, this is my first time posting on here. Btw, I’ll be at the game tonight wearing a marlins shirt. Rooting for them this series but I’ll be rooting for the pirates rest of the year. The streak ends this year. They’re gonna make the playoffs.

  41. Jandy says:

if that jackwipe even attempts to wear a Bucs uniform, I may just have to annihilate him!

  42. Jandy says:

and I’m NOT referring to Lambo

  43. Arriba Wilver says:

In a word, yes. I will be happy the streak is over, but not breaking out any champagne if the only thing we do this year is break the streak.

  44. Jandy says:

    LOL! BRAT!

  45. Jandy says:

Well, start with your hometown, then tdb will track you down and spill his beer on you ;)

  46. Jandy says:

I will be happy to break the streak, but I have to say I want MORE!

  47. Arriba Wilver says:

Neal Huntington’s agent thanks you. (Sorry, I don’t mean that to be as snarky as it sounds, but I couldn’t resist–I’m a bad person) :-)

  48. theplanisworking says:

Oh Jandy, I am sorry, but I just knew you would be the first in line with a torch and pitchfork!!!

  49. Jandy says:

You, bad?” yeah , and I’m Mother Theresa :P

  50. pattonbb says:

  51. pattonbb says:

Stranger things have happened, but very doubtful.

  52. Jandy says:

  53. Arriba Wilver says:

  54. Jandy says:

Hey, I resemble that remark…so no need to be sorry lol

  55. Nate83 says:

Yes 3 weeks ago but currently the team is putting up 4 to 5 runs a game and right field has been contributing to that. It hasn’t been a black hole of offensive production during this homestand. I would be reluctant to fix what seems to currently not be broken.

    Tabata .265 avg. .339 OBP .401 SLG
    Marte .279 avg. .335 OBP .442 SLG

The production out of right field offensively is not that far off from left field. Snider brings down the overall right field production for the year but it hasn’t been that bad since Presley and Tabata have been platooning. We need more from Walker and Jones/Gaby. They have shown signs of heating up lately. Hopefully it continues.

In the last 15 games the offense has put up 68 runs and the includes being shutout twice. If that run production continues they will be more then OK.

  56. Nate83 says:

The Pirates have games 19-25 on the upcoming schedule at home. The 10 after that are on the road. They will need to go 15-10 during the next 25 games to break that record at home which I think would be awesome. If that doesn’t happen it more then likely happens on the road. Oh yeah I forgot to mention those last 3 games before the road trip are against the Cardinals. Wow that would be a nice game to attend.

  57. Playoffs by 2012 says:

One day I hope to have the best fake wagering dynasty with the best blog crowd in all of baseball.

  59. Playoffs by 2012 says:

For those of you that remember SCTV……

  60. Jandy says:

    You mean you DON’T?????

  61. Jandy says:

    obviously I don’t lol

  62. Arriba Wilver says:

What time period are you referencing for the stats with Tabata and Marte?

    Marte’s established in my mind.

  63. Nate83 says:

I think if you see RF go into a prolonged 7-10 game slump Lambo will get his shot. The timing for Lambo has been bad. A move to him wasn’t made earlier because Tabata was just getting healthy and then it was close to the trade deadline. While the trade deadline was happening right field started playing pretty good.

Also the fact that Lambo wasn’t really on their radar at the beginning of the year also contributes. The same goes for Dickerson who has produced nicely and plays a position that hasn’t gotten a lot of production at the major league level.

  64. theplanisworking says:

Is that with or without wagering steroids?

  65. Nate83 says:

Those are their stats for the entire year. Obviously Tabata’s are helped by his last game and Marte is helped by his first 20 games which if you take away he has been very average. Nothing wrong with average for practically being a rookie and the above average stuff he brings in other parts of his game.

  66. Playoffs by 2012 says:

You will need to direct that question to my union rep.

  67. OZ says:

    100 Over, thx

  68. Arriba Wilver says:

    Marte has 479 PA ‘s to Tabata’s 183. I don’t think that is irrelevant,

  69. theplanisworking says:

    Or your attorney………….

  70. Lad9 says:

Will take the over for 100 mgs of dianabol please. Thank you Playoffs. Go Buccos!!

  71. Jason81 says:

    100 on the OVER, please!

  72. Nate83 says:

Just to be clear AW I’m not suggesting Marte be replaced I was just pointing out that maybe Tabata/Presley have not been as bad as those season long stats we keep hearing about for all of right field.

I did not include Presley’s stats because I feel as if it is to small of a sample size with only 58 at-bats. His stats actually are better then Tabata’s. Snider has more at-bats then Tabata and Presley combined. I didn’t have a problem with that because I was one who incorrectly thought Snider had more to offer. Going forward the year long stats for RF are not fair to use in evaluating Tabata and Presley’s abilities.

  73. Sisyphus says:

I’m pretty sure that you’ll be seeing Lambo very soon, unless there is something about his game that we don’t know about holding him back. Defense, for example.

  74. radio wave says:

And playoffs: I will take 100 on the under.

  75. bizrow says:

    Thanks, pattonbb

  76. Nate83 says:

Agree that is not irrelvant at all. When right field is talked about alot of people (not you) keep saying they are 14th in production for the year among NL teams. That includes 234 Snider at-bats. The Tabata/Presley stat line gives the Pirates an average right fielder production wise. It lacks a little power but it’s not a black hole.

  77. bizrow says:

Welcome maddamma, you just logged in location 383

  78. PirateFaninGA says:

It’s doable but harder than it looks. You have to take 2 out of 3 in every series except the road at St. Louis (1 win) and the SF 4 gamer (2 of 4). If you do that then the Cards come to town for that weekend with the Bucs at 80. Take 1: 81; Take 2: 82.

Would be very cool to see!! Home fans deserve it for sure. Plus at this point, the sooner they hit 82, the sooner they can focus on trying to reach the playoffs.

  79. Arriba Wilver says:

I didn’t think for a second you were criticizing Marte. I just thought the comparison was off. Still do.

  80. bizrow says:

If he would sign a minor league contract and play in Indy till September, he might be worth a shot

  81. Tom P. says:

Good analysis. It would be more fun to break the streak at home.

  82. bizrow says:

You will need to direct that question to my union rep

    Priceless ;-)

  83. Thundercrack says:

I keep hearing how Andrew Lambo has 29 home runs in the minor leagues this year.

Do you know how many major league players have 29 or more home runs so far this season?

  84. TCB says:

    75 on the over.

  85. bizrow says:

    Just so we break it

    I’m a beggar, so I can’t be a chooser ;-)

  86. bizrow says:

So are you for bringing him up, or agin it?

  87. Thundercrack says:

I like Lambo – and have followed his career since he’s been a Pirate.

But I would temper the enthusiasm surrounding him – a minor leaguer who had to repeat AA – in regards to coming up and making a big difference.

If he does I would be very happy. But I’m not convinced he would be much better than Tabata / Jones / Presley

  88. theplanisworking says:

Biz, he doesnt want to talk about the past, only the future.

He never let any illegal wager in to his body…… wags finger….

  89. Nate83 says:

I do not think for one second that Marte is not a better all around player then any of our right field options including Lambo. I was just pointing out that the players currently contributing in right fields offensive stats are not that far off of what Marte is giving us. They are hardly the black hole that the season stats that include Snider would suggest.

Do you think Lambo should be brought up?

I’m not completely against it. I don’t think it would be the worse decision ever made but I also don’t think it’s a slam dunk decision that has to be made. Only Hurdle and NH know everything about these players and which gives us the best chance to win. I think they have done enough this year to earn our trust that the right move will be made.

Thanks you for allowing me to appeal this til 2014.

After all, you are the all-time wagering king, because those before you used greenies, or uppers, or booze, or anything. After all the record book says you are #1, why bother with technicalities???

I certainly wont lose any sleep over it. ;)

  94. tpbco says:

But at least Lambo has the potential to be a 5 or 6 in the batting order. If your RF is batting 7, unless you are the ’60 Yankees or the Lumber Company of the ’70’s you have a problem. And this line up ain’t either one.

If Presely or Tabata can’t lead off or bat 2nd then they, IMO, are not adding enough value.

50 on the over. Tough line I’m hoping Cutch hits a home run with one of these guys on base and takes care of 2/3 of this. What the heck I will be greedy and say 3 run home run in the first to get the over around 7:22.

  108. theplanisworking says:

Yes, A-Roid looks like a 50 pound sausage in a 10 pound casing.

Personally, I think he is our SS of the future. ;)

  109. Brandie says:

    It’s the Radical One!

  110. Stickyweb says:

tdb, no offense, but it looks like the Bucs would be about 10 games up if you never went to a game. Just sayin’ :-)

  111. blazer says:

I’ll take 100 on the over please for tonight.

  112. Karen22 says:

I’ll take 50 Lambos on the OVER, please and thank you! :)

  113. Brandie says:

Bring back the ghost of Rafael Belliard!

  114. Thundercrack says:

I think if you bring Lambo up and he has to be your #5 hitter in the lineup, you have a problem.

  115. theplanisworking says:

    Or, Sammy Khalifa. ;)

  116. Brandie says:

Good Afternoon / Evening Dejan’s Looney Tunes!

  117. Stickyweb says:

100 on the UNDER tonight. Thanks.

  118. Chico says:

    100 on the under please!

  119. Karen22 says:

Hello, Brandie! Beautiful evening for a WIN!

  120. Brandie says:

Can I get a Dale Berra?

  121. Karen22 says:

Jay Bell looks like he can still play…

(Actually, he’s still a cutie; don’t care if he can play).

  122. Brandie says:

Good vibes from Madame 22! We Want A Win!

  123. theplanisworking says:

I will raise you a Brian Bixler.

  124. Stickyweb says:

I’m pretty sure the players are already focused on reaching the playoffs. If it were in doubt, they might be shooting for .500, but there’s just no way this team goes 14-37 the rest of the way. I’m usually one to worry about a jinx or a kibosh, but not this time.

  125. Brandie says:

    Karen…you Animal!!!! :-)

  126. theplanisworking says:

    No thats you!

    Karen just needs a napkin………… ;)

  127. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I grew up idolizing Fred Norris.
Something about a sound/video clip always adds to the conversation…in my opinion.

  128. PirateFaninGA says:

I’m still paranoid. lol. Basically, until they reach 82, I’m not trying to think too much about the playoffs. Insert Jim Mora “Playoffs” clip here.

I know it is borderline ridiculous at this point to think that they won’t hit 82, and most fans will consider this season an Epic Collapse 3 if they don’t reach the playoffs at this point, but I still want to see 82 in the W column before I fully move on to postseason dreams.

But I agree with you, the players have moved on even if paranoid guys like me haven’t. Wasn’t Russell Martin quoted as saying 82 is in the bag the other day?

  129. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    This press conference is over!

  130. Playoffs by 2012 says:

If he does just that, and hits it at exactly 7:22PM EST tonight, I’ll give you 5x odds.

  131. Bryanhsc1 says:

Long time reader and only my second post. I am originally from Cresson PA but have lived in North Charleston SC or there about for 33 years. I was back in Pittsburgh for the Cardinal series and had a terrific time!
You guys are an informative blog and still have some fun without getting too combative.
I am for a Free Lambo. Anyone remember Jones was a career minor leaguer till he got an opportunity

  132. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    You got it!!

  134. Bryanhsc1 says:

forgot to give Props to Dejan, I enjoy his writing and his videos and agree with MOST of what he says. Interesting to note the way his opinion of the Pirates this year has tended to become more positive.

DK: I appreciate that, and welcome. Can’t say I find it interesting, though, that an opinion would “change” when the subject matter changes. Horse always precedes cart.

  135. Hal Smith says:

first 100 on the over – thank you

Bizrow I’ve moved from Lansing Mi to Mason Mi.

I’m not so much a stat geek so I’m asking. Isn’t the production from 1st less than the product from RF in the last month?

  136. Brandie says:

Gettin’ a little schmutzy in here!

  137. bizrow says:

Now there is a goal ;-)

  138. Brandie says:

I’ll see your Brian Bixler, then add Alfredo Amezaga.

  139. bizrow says:

Thanks Hal, Mason added, I do not remove because

    Its too much work
    I’m lazy
Others may not have logged in because the location was there
    Too confusing to me
And repeat No 1 and No 2 ;-)

  140. tpbco says:

I agree, he would need to earn it.

I think we have a pretty good handle on the other two, as I said, if they can’t lead off or bat 2, over the long haul, which we are in, then the batting order is exposed. Too many .240 hitters in the middle of the lineup.

  141. bizrow says:

Welcome and thanks for posting, your location is No. 385

  142. Brandie says:

Hey, Hey, Hey! It’s Plan Musial!

  143. bizrow says:

TC, agree with you, IMO, Lambo is like the “second string QB” for the Steelers used to be, Put him in, he can’t be any worse.

I don’t think you throw the guy into a pennant race.

    September callup, fine

  144. cosmo says:

    100 on the over.

  145. bizrow says:

Folks, just want to say, no matter what happens, this is truly a priceless season

For the first time in many years the burgh is knee deep in a pennant race, not counting 97 where it was a year of attrition, not success.

Lets not forget how this feels and make sure to enjoy the ride

  146. Hal Smith says:

biz I know I wasn’t the only one from Lansing. I should have mentioned it before. I’m new at this.

  147. bizrow says:

    Hal, no problem

The list is for fun ;-)

There are tons of more places where Dejan is followed.

  148. Dadtackular says:

    100 P.E.Ds on the under

  149. bman says:

    50 on the UNDER please

  150. Irish says:

    Optimism! 50 on Over, please.

  151. Joey Mellons says:

    100 over. Thanks.

  152. pattonbb says:

Shane Spencer? A-Rod’s buddy that beat up the pizza delivery guy?

  153. theplanisworking says:

Those things are messing with the contrast and tint on my TV.

  161. theplanisworking says:

Lets not put the Hippo in front of the cart, please.

After win #82, then you can put the cart in front of me all you want.

  162. Milo Hamilton says:

Well, I think that’s the 1st umpire Jones has gotten. It won’t be funny when it costs them a game. Just awful.

  163. theplanisworking says:

So does the Parrot, so I tend to give those things a pass.

  164. pattonbb says:

Whoa…..the game is on mlb. Thank you mlb for blacking out the Braves.

    Lets Go Bucs!!!

  165. Lad9 says:

I just wish it was Meals that got hit….. GI is not much of a first baseman to be honest. Somebody on here complained about him being removed for defensive reasons a couple of weeks ago and I was stupefied.

  166. Milo Hamilton says:

The poor guy was stunned. I’m sure in all his years umpiring that’s the 1st time that ever happened. I can laugh now, Locke got out of it.

  167. theplanisworking says:

At least the ump laughed about it………….. didnt grandstand like the fool who went after AJ 10 days ago.

I dont mind when the Pirates win or lose, I just wish they would control the Keystone Cops act in the field.

  168. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m losing sleep over Biz’s total. We need to get him above -3000 by the end of the year. :-)

  169. Milo Hamilton says:

Listening to our announcers talk about the Marlins it reminds me of how Joe Paterno used to talk about Temple the week Penn State played them. Please.

  170. pattonbb says:

    Barmes makes that play.

  171. Karen22 says:

    Heh heh heh…

  172. Arriba Wilver says:

Jack Wilson makes it in his sleep (and retirement).

  173. theplanisworking says:

Poor Biz is going to need PED help to raise his #’s. ;)

  174. Milo Hamilton says:

Their heads are not in this game. Pedro has to be waiting at the base for that throw.

  175. Arriba Wilver says:

+1. In real time I thought the tag was on time, but in slo mo it was way late. Weird inning.

  176. Lad9 says:

No excuse for Pedro not being on the bag and it just cost us a run.

  177. theplanisworking says:

If I didnt know any better, I would swear Locke thinks the plate is 59 feet from the mound.

He looks out of it tonight.

  178. theplanisworking says:

    +1 Professor Lad!!

  179. Arriba Wilver says:

Lucky to get out of the 2nd with only one run.

  180. Brandie says:

Good evening Lad and Plan Musial!

  181. Brandie says:

    Is that the “safe word”?

  182. theplanisworking says:

    Hello Brandimal Snifter.

Hoping your world is good, root the Bucs onto a W

  183. Arriba Wilver says:

  184. Arriba Wilver says:

  185. Brandie says:

Your wish is my command, Hipposter!

  186. JD says:

100 on the over if I can still get in please. They all batted once so far w/o scoring. Thanks man.

    Go Bucs!

  187. pattonbb says:

“I don’t care what the stats say, Chris Paliscak is a good football player. If we’re not prepared, he’s gonna give us a lot of trouble. This team’s no pushover. Temple will be ready to play Saturday. I just hope we are too”.

  188. Brandie says:

Is that cart running on 300 HP ( Hippo Power )?

  189. Looking too easy for Alvarez right now. Bucs not being aggressive right now, so they are easily falling behind each AB. Need to start hitting those straight fastballs before he throws any breaking stuff.

  190. Milo Hamilton says:

Locke only went 4 innings in his last start & he’ll go no more than 5 tonight. Already at 50 pitches.

  191. Milo Hamilton says:

First pitch fastballs to all 7 hitters. No swings.

  192. Milo Hamilton says:

Exactly the same point that last year James McDonald imploded.

  193. Thundercrack says:

Locke not looking great tonight. Command is off and he’s lucky they haven’t hit any over the fence

  194. theplanisworking says:

Is anyone even up in the pen?

He just looks out of it tonight.

Milo, excellent point about the similarity between JMac and Locke.

  195. theplanisworking says:

    + many Hippos.

    Good One!!!

  196. Arriba Wilver says:

    JMac II?

  197. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    The safe word is popcorn.

  198. Brandie says:

He just does not have it tonight. It becomes a different ballgame when you are playing to not have the game get away from you.

  199. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Jeff Locke

  200. Brandie says:

Hungry, Hungry Hippos! Let s get the win, boys!

  201. Brandie says:

    Mmmmm! Popcorn!

  202. Milo Hamilton says:

The Cardinals is one thing, but the worst hitting team in the league (.231) is 8 for 15. Red flag.

  203. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Raise it?

  204. Thundercrack says:

    Why did you write that?!??

EVERYONE, get that thought out of you head!

  205. Brandie says:

Is that Joan Rivers ugly or Drunk Nick Note ugly?

  206. Milo Hamilton says:

Good one. It happened to Madison Bumgarner last year too.

  207. pattonbb says:

Any pitcher that fails to get the bunt down should be made to run laps, during the game.

  208. Arriba Wilver says:

My original post was going to be “not” JMac II. Then I looked at Baseball Reference.

  209. theplanisworking says:

    Whats the frequency, Kenneth?

  210. theplanisworking says:

    You are a nut!

  211. theplanisworking says:

    CUTCH !!!

  212. Brandie says:

    And your point being?

  213. Arriba Wilver says:

I thought that was gone. cutch just doesn’t come through. :-)

  214. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    That’s right.
    Something about lefties….

  215. pattonbb says:

    Fastball is coming Pedro……

  216. theplanisworking says:

and, as an added “bonus”, Brown with the obligatory heart attack.

  217. Arriba Wilver says:

I can’t believe Alvarez went for 3, but he made it. And I didn’t care if he made it, either,

  218. theplanisworking says:

Do we lose sleep over this??? ;)

  219. Playoffs by 2012 says:

ANNNND just like that the game is tied and the OVER wins.

  220. Brandie says:

  221. Milo Hamilton says:

Two things. OK Jeffrey, cut the crap. And #2, Clint has to be ready with the quick hook.

  222. Brandie says:

Losing sleep right now just listening to this game.

  223. Arriba Wilver says:

    Not me. I’m thinking MVP.

  224. Brandie says:

Way to call that, Captain Milo!

  225. JD says:

I agree, that was cool. The dugout loved it.

  226. Milo Hamilton says:

Look at the bright side, at least he gets to face Stanton with a guy on 2nd. :)

  227. Arriba Wilver says:

Should have been an error on Marte. We should be out of this inning.

  228. Arriba Wilver says:

    And now we are.

  229. Milo Hamilton says:

    Atta boy Jeffrey.

  230. twentytwo22 says:

This Mickey Mouse defense the Pirates are playing tonight isn’t helping Locke find his game.

  231. Arriba Wilver says:

  232. chethejet says:

Pirates I hope are still in the market for a hitter. Waivers clearing may be difficult especially from the American league.

  233. Arriba Wilver says:

Pirates don’t seem to be having any trouble hitting fly balls to the outfield when no one is on Third with less than 2 outs. Just sayin’.

  234. Milo Hamilton says:

Alvarez has thrown a first pitch fastball to 16 of 17 batters (only Pedro’s 2nd AB). Hacking at the 1st pitch if it’s in the zone is absolutely the correct approach.

  235. bizrow says:

Lets see if Locke can go 6

  236. Brandie says:

APB for more Lunatics. We need more vibes to secure the win!

  237. theplanisworking says:

We already have blog legends you, Milo, AW, and others.
    What more do you want?

  238. bizrow says:

    Pup night looks pretty cool

I like em sleeping on the couch beside me though

  239. Brandie says:

  240. Brandie says:

Mine likes to sleep on my feet or pressed against my tummy.

  241. theplanisworking says:

+ many for the Queen reference!

  242. Milo Hamilton says:

    The decision maker, Vin Mazzaro.

  243. Eric Bowser says:

I missed the first 5.5 innings as I watched Star Wars Episode 6 with my son and daughter.

Looking at the box score, doesn’t look like Jeff Locke is getting hitters to swing at his curve and that’s getting him to ring up a ton of walks and pitches. Tonight wasn’t too bad with 3 but 102 pitches and only 59 strikes isn’t very good.

Wow, I have to see Pedro’s triple.

  244. Matt hoffman says:

Andrew Lambo homers to RF for Indy tonight!

  245. twentytwo22 says:

Somehow, some way they are where we want them to be – 9 outs left tie score, playing at home. Good chance to win.

  246. theplanisworking says:

Say more prayers for him, Reverend Matt.

  247. Lad9 says:

Good evening Brandie and Hippo. Finally back in the house. Good comeback to tie it up for Buccos.

  248. pattonbb says:

    Barmes makes that play too.

  249. Lad9 says:

  250. Eric Bowser says:

Oh what a catch by Andrew McCutchen

  251. Milo Hamilton says:

Some leakage in Mercer’s defensive game since the break, that’s for sure.

  252. When is your Pittsburgh trip, Matt?

  253. Thundercrack says:

The thought of moving McCutchen out of centerfield is just crazy.

  254. Milo Hamilton says:

They deserve to lose this game. What a horrid defensive effort.

  255. Eric Bowser says:

I’ve seen one inning and already wishing I hadn’t turned this game on. This inning is brutal.

  256. Eric Bowser says:

Does Mazzaro ever have a 1-2-3 inning?

  257. theplanisworking says:

Very fortunate to get out of that inning.

  258. Lad9 says:

AW I saw that you are thinking MVP for Cutch above. I have to concur. We are seeing a much different season from 22 this year. He is steadily improving and building to a peak, getting better seemingly every day, where last year he flashed and then flamed out. I like this version much better. Just an absolute joy to watch!

  259. Matt hoffman says:

Whenever they make the playoffs. Loved Pittsburgh in 2001. I would love to move there someday! Where is the best place to eat in Pittsburgh?

  260. theplanisworking says:

I agree Cutch is getting better all the time.

My choice for MVP might be Russell Martin. The job he has done with this pitching staff, and throwing out runners is nothing short of miraculous.

  261. Thundercrack says:

    We wanted him freed

  262. Brandie says:

Like the new avatar Revvie Baby!

  263. Brandie says:

Good to talk to ya, Rad Lad. Going to see the Curve Friday night!

  264. Brandie says:

    I aim to please! :-)

  265. Milo Hamilton says:

Bring us back a report on Alex Dickerson.

  266. Milo Hamilton says:

The devil you know, or the devil you don’t know.

  267. Eric Bowser says:

Nice and easy 1-2-3 inning from Watson…

  268. Lad9 says:

Right back at ya Branimal! I have been trying to get to a Curve game for two years and I always seem to put it off. Glad you are going. Let me know what you think of Polanco, Hanson, and the other notables. Now we need to bring this one home!

  269. Milo Hamilton says:

Has anyone asked Chad Qualls to pee in a cup ?

  270. Eric Bowser says:

    was thinking the same thing.

  271. Thundercrack says:

    Qualls owes us

He stunk & ruined our chemistry

  272. pattonbb says:

Looks about the same to me….

  273. theplanisworking says:

There is the Chad Qualls we know and love.

  274. Thundercrack says:

It would have a high concentration of steak sauce & BBQ sauce

  275. Milo Hamilton says:

I want to see him fall down again. Literally & figuratively.

  276. theplanisworking says:

  277. Patrick(ri) says:

Nice play. Who wants an easy, anyway. This is the Qualls I recall.

  278. pattonbb says:

How bad would it screw people up if Cutch laid down a bunt here?

  279. Patrick(ri) says:

    Easy out, of course

  280. Patrick(ri) says:

The only utility a bunt has IMHO: surprise.

  281. Lad9 says:

Ah yes, you are so right Hippo. It is like running into an old friend at the local tavern and picking up a conversation as if a year hasn’t passed. Thank you Chad

  282. Patrick(ri) says:

Our Mike Dunn had an “e” on the end? (3rd player in the Van Slyke trade for you youngsters)

  283. theplanisworking says:

    Better have a re-enforced chair if I go to a tavern. ;)

  284. pattonbb says:

When Pedro missed that fastball, this at bat was over. Pedro had no idea what was coming. None.

  285. Eric Bowser says:

    Absolutely pathetic

  286. theplanisworking says:

    HUGE opportunity wasted there.

    HUGE !!

  287. Milo Hamilton says:

If Brian Morris comes in I’m walking the dogs.

  288. Patrick(ri) says:

Unbelievably bad team when presented easy scoring opportunities. Marlins treied hard to give it to us. “Pathetic” is too kind.

  289. Eric Bowser says:

    Have fun walking those dogs….

  290. theplanisworking says:

    See Ya, Milo.

  291. Patrick(ri) says:

+ 1. Not quite his specialty — only the 9th.

  292. Thanks, Branderiffic. Can you read what it says?

  293. florida steeler says:

Way to go Pedro and Martin–pathetic that neither one of them can hit the ball out of the infield. Pedro stands there at a pitch right down the middle with two strikes!!! Amazing.

  294. Patrick(ri) says:

pattonbb nailed it — we should have bunted.

  295. pattonbb says:

Nice job by Morris. Lets see if Jones can end this one.

  296. Eric Bowser says:

    Pedro: 2-2 count
    2013: .086 avg
    2010-12: .123 avg

  297. theplanisworking says:

  298. pattonbb says:

    I meant J-Hay!!!!!!

  299. theplanisworking says:

    RAISE THAT JOLLY HIPPO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  300. Patrick(ri) says:

Another weak performance by this hopeless, overmatched player.

  301. Milo Hamilton says:

    Oh my.

  302. JHAY BABY!!!!!! Raise it after my Flash Player Crashed.

  303. pattonbb says:

    ….fear the Bones….

  304. theplanisworking says:

    AGREED !!!

  305. florida steeler says:

Don’t criticize him–he is an all star. Yea, right!!!

  306. Lad9 says:

Wow! Wow! WOW!!!! Raise it! I am stunned. Magic, pure magic….

  307. theplanisworking says:

So THAT was the mystery truck that pulled into PNC earlier today………….
a truck full of rabbits feet. :)

  308. KenKopp says:

Hee, Hee, Hee, Too much fun!

    go dogers

    GO BUCS!

  309. Lad9 says:

Nice win, eh fs? Any thoughts on that?

  310. KenKopp says:

Dodgers got the bases loaded, no out, down by one, bottom of the sixth. Hell ya, I’m scoreboard watchin.

  311. twentytwo22 says:

Interesting choice by Hurdle and it paid off.

Could have PH Sanchez for Jones vs. the LHP leading off the inning. He leads the team in BB%. He used Harrison meaning Sanchez could have been in the 9th spot and hit in the 10th inning vs a RHP.

He managed his gut and the Pirates won because of it.

  312. JRay3 says:

And best power hitter in the NL, 29 other teams would love to have El Toro! You must be bu,med team is now 24 over .500!

  313. theplanisworking says:

With some people, they could win by 20, hit m7 HRs, and someone would complain that a shoelace was untied.

  314. KenKopp says:

    Bummer, Dodgers fail to score.

  315. Thundercrack says:

JHay just told Lambo to STFD

  316. JRay3 says:

Another solid 3.1 innings turned in by the pen, Mazzaro, Watson and Morris all worked with no margin for error.

Team dug itself a whole, but as it has all year fought its way back into the game. Very easily could have lost this game, but good teams can finds way to win when their defense, or pitching or timely hitting has a night off.

Bucs now 7-2 on this 11 game home stand, 39-20 at PNC and 24 over .500 and proud owners of the best record in baseball, just another great night of 2013 Pirate baseball!

    What would you have done?

I would have PH Sanchez and we might have lost.

  318. JRay3 says:

No worries, this a TEAM, and JHay picked them up…68-44 enough said.

  319. Eric Bowser says:

I just can’t believe… this is actually happening.

    Never thought I’d see this….

  320. You? I’ve got 30 years on you, Eric. I wondered if I’d ever see another season over .500, let alone playoffs, let alone a real major league team.

  321. Lad9 says:

Same here. Clint needs to go to Vegas – but not with us!

  322. Lad9 says:

Milo I hope you caught that on the doggie cam. :)

  323. Milo Hamilton says:

68 wins. It’s late September right ? Right about now I usually hope they can get to 73 so they don’t lose 90. I really have forgotten what this is like. This one tonight really makes you wonder.

  324. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, but you got something better than rabbit’s feet.

Believe. One game at a time. Smash 82!

  325. Karen22 says:

Lambo hit TWO HR’s tonight – 30 & 31. How you gonna keep him down on the farm??

  326. KenKopp says:

“I really have forgotten what this is like” Me too brother. Been a while. We have paid our dues and stuck by THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES. Let’s just have some more fun. And a bunch of more wins.

  327. JRay3 says:

Team is 12-7 after the All-Star break and have put together a 4 game win streak and current 3 game win streak to push August mark to 3-2.

Tonight is just one of the many in this 2013 season that gets your attention.

  328. JRay3 says:

If Rays hold on to defeat Arizona tonight consider this:

The Pirates will have a 12 game lead with 50 games remaining to clinch their first postseason berth since ’92. That is unreal.

  329. pattonbb says:

Anyone looking for some entertaining, non-Pirate related highlights should watch the recap of the Braves Nats game. Harper hits a hr early, gets drilled his next at bat, starts jawing to Teheran, then McCann yells at him to “Take your &$?%ing base, Clown”. Great stuff.

I won’t spoil the ending for you, but Bryce Harper and a 99mph elevated fastball from Craig Kimbrel are involved.

  331. Arriba Wilver says:

I’m glad I missed the end, because I’d have probably said something stupid, too. :-). :-)

  332. Arriba Wilver says:

Can’t wait to see Mr. Hasis’ complaints about Clint’s managing this one. :-)

  333. Arriba Wilver says:

If Lambo was here, we’d have won by 2 runs. :-)

  334. KenKopp says:

Harper is a big leauger at 20 years old. Saw his first pro at bat. Struck out and looked terrible. Second pitch on his second AB hit a homer in the lake. Rains came and the game was called. Look it up. Signed autougraphes for kids first, old folks second, and reluctantcly for the pro auto seekers third. Good kid and a baseball player.

  335. theplanisworking says:

    Oh Lord…………………………

  336. theplanisworking says:

    It happens.

    Thats why I wait sometimes…….
