  1. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Standings will be updated this evening

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
What will the Pirates get in today’s game?
    Win (EVEN ODDS)
    Loss (EVEN ODDS)

Please Note – All games must be considered official games in order for line(s) to be valid. Any postponement, cancellation, or suspension of game(s) will void line(s).

    GOOD LUCK!!!

70 Down, only 12 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  2. MadTurk says:

Well we will finally get to see Presley and Tabata get some playing time (games in a row) to see if they have what we need or not. I know most minds are made up but this is a new year and injuries are behind them for now.
    Anyway Go bucs

  3. Nate83 says:

    100 on the win.

  4. blazer says:

100 on the win. Can’t be swept in Colorado can we?

  5. Nate83 says:

This thought process makes way to much sense. Such rational thinking is not allowed.

I’m actually looking forward to what they can do.

  6. JAL says:

very good piece on minor league play. No Pirate mention, just a good baseball story.

Postcard from Myrtle Beach: Running the bases, one step ahead of fate

  7. OZ says:

  8. CWalton_67 says:

Whenever I hear this line, I recall my neighborhood growing up.
    “Italian contractors”, and such.
Specialized in a certain type of shoe, if ya catch my drift…….

  21. Arriba Wilver says:

Don’t get too excited, Mad. Nate’s really just saying you’re thinking like him.

First thing I thought, though, was “isn’t this the outfield that we began last year with?” Should be interesting, And we don’t have much choice.

  22. Jason81 says:

100 non-sports discussions on the WIN, please!

  23. bizrow says:

100 on the win, thanks Playoffs

    Beat Em Bucs

    Go like 60

  25. Drew71 says:

    Sunday afternoon.

    Hair’s On Fire lineup.

  26. cmst0829 says:

    100 win.

  27. Bob Hasis says:

Within the last week, the Pirates and Steelers honored a recent service veteran ( and embarrassingly I have forgotten his name ) who lost both legs and also survived two strokes as a result of severe injuries suffered.
I would like to nominate him for your honor roll, as well as separately, All Service Personnel Deployed into Battle – Ever.

As a bit of a question, I seem to recall that Dick Groat is from Swissvale. (This may have already been brought to your attention). Back in the day, Wilkinsburg and Swissvale were rivals akin to Beaver Falls – Aliquippa, or Bethel Park – Upper St. Clair.

    Submitted with all due respects.

  28. bizrow says:

Thanks Bob, servicemen/women added and Mr Groat clarified.

  29. Lad9 says:

Great call Bob. His name is Sgt Doug Vitale and he deserves every honor we can give him. Shout out to Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band, for doing so much for a wounded vets. Thanks Bob.

  30. Lad9 says:

    “our wounded vets”

  31. Dadtackular says:

    + infinity.. thanks bob

  32. Nate83 says:

I really don’t want them both in the line up but at least we will get to see what each of them bring to the table. Tabata is really the only one I was interested in seeing play 80% of the at bats. I have liked his approach at the plate all year. Reminds me of how he looked his first year. He also has shown good hustle going from first to third and second to home running hard as soon as the ball is in play.

  33. War Horse says:

    100 to WIN!

  34. Arriba Wilver says:

    100 on the WIN please.

  35. JD says:

    100 on the win please.

    Go Bucs!

  36. Arriba Wilver says:

  37. Eric Bowser says:

Since there’s a Bettis on the mound for the Rockies, maybe he’ll fumble the ball on the mound.

  38. JD says:

    + many for Guinness!

  39. Hope it doesn’t continue to go this way, but third major league start, 6+ ERA, 2 Ks already. Let’s not make this dude look like Cy Young against us.

  40. theplanisworking says:

  41. Brandie says:

Amen. It is time to find the offense.

  42. theplanisworking says:

    I left you a cartoon above. ;)

  43. Eric Bowser says:

The little things like that Tony Sanchez passed ball will hurt a team like the Pirates. They don’t have the offense to give away bases.

  44. theplanisworking says:

    PEDRO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. theplanisworking says:

    PEDRO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Brandie says:

Eeyore kind of sucks all the happy out of everything! Cute cartoon, American Plan-stand!

  47. Finally Pedro with a HR!! 1-0 Bucs.

  48. Eric Bowser says:

    Pedro says…. “kick this”

    1-0 Pirates

  49. Bob Hasis says:

Pedro, Timing is EVERYTHING. We’ll take it, but it is one at bat too late

  50. 21sthebest says:

    That’s baseball!

  51. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, but he got a tail today!
Thats a good thing, right, Brandie-mal?

  52. Thundercrack says:

I think you should petition the league : the timing wasn’t right and we don’t want to take it

    Give the run back!

  53. Thundercrack says:

This team’s pitching and defense has allows them to overcome errors like that and not scoring a lot of runs.

  54. Thundercrack says:

  55. Timmy says “46-17 when the Bucs score first.” Let’s add to that total on the good side. Cubbies just tied it up against STL.

  56. 21sthebest says:

Might be successful. Neverett declared it, “hammered into the right centerfield gap” at first.

  57. Thundercrack says:

Melancon and his high school coach look like they are the same age

  58. Brandie says:

Any day you get tail us a good day! :-)

    Dig the Double Entendre.

  59. theplanisworking says:

  60. theplanisworking says:

With all the goofy things that have gone against us the past 2 games, it is very nice to see things even out today. We deserve some breaks.

  61. CWalton_67 says:

Pedro absolutely smoked that ball. Good possibility of a rain delay here. Coors is a great venue. Not PNC, buys very nice ballpark. Cutch just now with the infield hit. We’re throwing the Zoltan.

  62. Thundercrack says:

Mo Rivera blew another save today

  63. Brandie says:

Goods to see Barnes hitting. If we care stuck with him, he might as well produce.

  64. Brandie says:

I took the opening you have me, Plan!

  65. Brandie says:

    Gave me, not have me.

  66. 21sthebest says:

Cutch with a swinging bunt RBI single (two at bats too late).

  67. CWalton_67 says:

  68. Brandie says:

Again with the timing…or lack thereof.

  69. Thundercrack says:

Lots of first strike pitches from Locke today

  70. Eric Bowser says:

    He stepped OFF the rubber….

  71. Bob Hasis says:

I’m waiting for the day that Locke drops the ball when getting the sign; he continually spins it, and it’d be a balk!

    What do you think TC?

  72. theplanisworking says:

Guess I spoke too soon about getting the breaks.
The umps seem to be calling every single thing Colorado’s way. Interesting.

  73. Patrick(ri) says:

Rocky announcers say he clearly stepped off.

  74. Thundercrack says:

I’m not waiting for that day.

  75. Thundercrack says:

Does his foot have to be completely off the rubber?

  76. Brandie says:

Is there a conspiracy afoot? Should I adjust my tinfoil hat to pick up the coded messages?

  77. Patrick(ri) says:

Seems Walk doesn’t think so. Anyway, his foot was off.

  78. Brandie says:

Locke needs to let this go, no matter how frustrating the outcome.

  79. theplanisworking says:

No, just get a set of rabbit ears. ;)

Just odd how Colorado has gotten all the calls this series. And, no, I am not saying there is a conspiracy. Just a bit unusual.

  80. Bob Hasis says:

Well I’m not actually or eagerly awaiting it, but in the heat of battle, in a tight game, in a pennant race – nerves do weird things.

  81. Brandie says:

    A Conspiracy of the Unusual.

  82. 21sthebest says:

His pivot foot was completely off the rubber. He stepped back and threw to a base which is specifically allowed by the rules.

  83. theplanisworking says:

Is that the new name for this blog?

  84. Brandie says:

    It would be appropriate. :-)

  85. Ghost says:

But we want to be inappropriate!

  86. Brandie says:

See comment above about getting tail.

  87. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Has Tabata been able to get a ball out of the infield this week?

  88. Ghost says:

    Me like.

  89. Lad9 says:

I leave for an hour to pick up my car and I miss a Locke balk (alleged) and a tail conversation. No frigging way that the Cardinals blog gets this stuff. Just another reason they “tail” us in the standings. BRANDIE!! How goes it today?

  90. Lad9 says:

He has looked awful. You get ahead in the count like that and you need to come out of your shoes when you swing. Not throw out an excuse me like that.

  91. Eric Bowser says:

The little things keep going the Rockies way…

  92. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Bob Hasis the floor is yours….

  93. BDHumbert says:

Will someone explain to me why Barmes is on this team – he is a JOKE!

  94. theplanisworking says:

Oh, but that was the GOOD fielding Clint Barmes.

  95. BDHumbert says:

  96. theplanisworking says:

Yeah, but those Cardinal blogs stick to all sports stuff! ;)

  97. BDHumbert says:

What I would really like to see if for Locke to go over and punch Barmes right in the face!

  98. 21sthebest says:

You think he’s still on this team because they gave him a $5M contract?

  99. Thundercrack says:

    Hair on fire!

  100. Lad9 says:

He is in there for his (im)potent bat I guess because it sure isn’t the glove. His fielding % is just a hair better than Mercer and he is getting to one ball a game per 9 innings less. And it is no longer a small sample size.

  101. Arriba Wilver says:

  102. Ghost says:

Barmes is fine. Errors do happen. Barmes also happened to score one of our two runs, today. No punches in the face.

  103. 21sthebest says:

    Well said.

  104. Bob Hasis says:

    Absolutely YES!1

Two questions for you, and the panel; Is Barmes on this team next year, and if so at what salary?

I say the major league minimum – plus cab fare.

  105. Chuck H says:

Another no-name pitcher with a high ERA is having his way with the hitless wonders. Why
can’t Pedro hit a homer with someone on base? Not that a homer isn’t great anytime, but
he’s had his chances lately with the sacks full, and didn’t even come up with a single. I
have a feeling that we’re going to get swept by these Rockies. It’s a good thing that the
Cards are losing right along with the Bucs. Do you still think we don’t need some hitting

  106. 21sthebest says:

  107. BDHumbert says:

    and not worth $5,000

  108. BDHumbert says:

  109. Arriba Wilver says:

I don’t. I thought that excuse was put to bed.

Next year? Don’t know, but if so probably not for more than $2 mil, maybe $2.5.

  110. Brandie says:

Any day I can wake up, feel good, and chat with my friends and loved ones is a good day. I hope all is well with you, Birdman!

  111. 21sthebest says:

I don’t think he’s on this team because of his contract one bit, and I don’t think he’s resigned next year unless he can be signed for about $1M, maybe $2M.

  112. Ghost says:

He’s a free agent next year, so I doubt he’ll ever see $5 mil per year again. I also doubt he expects to be anybody’s starting SS again — not at his age nor with his bat. He is a role player, from here on out and he knows it. I don’t know who the Bucs have in the system who might be ready to supplant him. If Barmes is cheap to re-up, I would sign him for another year.

  113. BDHumbert says:

NO! you are a team leader and ONLY here for you defense – if you choke on this kind of play in a regular season game why are you in the lineup – Jay Hay or Mercer are much better offensive options.

I have lived through the losses – and awful teams and seasons – jettisoning this piece of crap and bringing up DeJesus is smart – Jettisoning Tabata and bringing up Lambo is a no brainer.

We need someone – DK – to kick some front office ass!

  114. Bob Hasis says:

Why not? He is the fourth highest paid and not worth it.

Do you think NH and BN are that bad at business?

  115. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Lead off walk.

  116. Arriba Wilver says:

    Don’t get the question. Rhetorical?

  117. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    CLAP – CLAP – M – B – O
    CLAP – CLAP – M – B – O
    CLAP – CLAP – M – B – O

    And LAMBO is his name-o

  118. BDHumbert says:

    Pedro comes up big…

  119. Brandie says:

    Cialis or Viagra can help.

  120. theplanisworking says:

He shouldnt be back, for any price, including the league minimum.
He wiil be back, because neal cant admit he makes mistakes, and Clint H. luuuuuuuuuuvs him some veterans.

  121. theplanisworking says:

He shouldnt be back, for any price, including the league minimum.
He wiil be back, because neal cant admit he makes mistakes, and Clint H. luuuuuuuuuuvs him some veterans.

  122. Lad9 says:

    It is. :)

  123. Ghost says:

Chill out. Today’s error was Barmes first since June. If you can’t tolerate an error once in a while… Relax, pop open a cold one — it’s on me.

  124. theplanisworking says:

With our luck, his bat will grow, and he wont know what to do with it!

  125. Brandie says:

Perhaps he can be used to mentor an up and comer.

  126. BDHumbert says:

And I have already told the Pirates i will not be renewing my season tickets if he is on the roster – that is how strongly I feel about him being a total waste of money and a locker…

  127. Lad9 says:

LOL. Won’t affect the size of the sample though!

  128. BDHumbert says:

Sanchez makes that play – and should have been in…

  129. theplanisworking says:

    Thank You, Old McPlayoffs!

  130. 21sthebest says:

Well McLouth and Bedard were arguably two mistakes Neal admitted just last year.

  131. Brandie says:

Call a doctor if that bat growth lasts for 4 hours or more. It’s all about timing and sitting in an outside bath tub in a hillside.

  132. theplanisworking says:

Laddy, your mythical Eeyore made an appearance today. Thought you would appreciate it.

  133. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Would Lambo have made that play?

  134. Patrick(ri) says:

Clint will not repeat yesterday with this pitcher. Opening 4 pitch walk seemed familiar?

  135. Brandie says:

    Yes, yes it will.

  136. Ghost says:

Brandie is feeling down right randy today!

  137. Patrick(ri) says:

    Not til September

  138. BDHumbert says:

    Pedro make a bonehead play

  139. Bob Hasis says:

Somewhat awkward AW, you are right.
My first line related to 21’s question, “you think he’s still on this team because he’s paid 5 mill’?

I responded “absolutely yes”, to which you responded, “I don’t” then the part I didn’t understand from you was “I thought that excuse was put to bed” Can you explain that?

That’s the best I can do

  140. theplanisworking says:

    Is Randy enjoying it?

  141. Brandie says:

    Randy finds it quite handy.

  142. twentytwo22 says:

    2013: 3.88
    2012: 4.02

With Martin replacing Barajas/McKenry and a full season of Marte I don’t know how that is possible.

  143. theplanisworking says:

Game should be 3-0 Pirates right now.
    Instead its 2-2.

  144. BDHumbert says:

So now we need to have the line on what will the lead be coming out of St. Louis…

    That will be interesting…

Bucs play the Cards well – but I am really not feeling good about how things are going right now…

  145. BDHumbert says:

Well of Lambo was playing first – he would/should have been defensive replaced for the sixth – I am a firm believer in putting in your defensive specialists in the sixth if you have the lead.

  146. Ghost says:

Hate to sound like a broken record, but unless the team gets Pedro some Perry Hill-like tutelage, I really think you guys might want to get used to seeing Pedro at first after this season… He’s on pace for another 30+ E’s.

  147. Brandie says:

Getting a little tired of the mantra “We will have tines like these.” Such is the life if a Pirates fan. Pitching aplenty, but no fat bats!

  148. theplanisworking says:

  149. theplanisworking says:

    See my KFC commercial below!

  150. Ghost says:

Randy Brandie is melting me down!

  151. Brandie says:

Is JHay the Swiss Army knife of baseball players?

  152. Thundercrack says:

What about the outs he gets because of his strong arm, which at times is very accurate

  153. Brandie says:

I remember that commercial. I feel old now.

  154. Brandie says:

Are you saying Lambo is a dog?

  155. Arriba Wilver says:

    That is an interesting stat.

  156. Ghost says:

It’s not like we’ll never get another strong arm again. Anyway, at times his arm is very INaccurate. I’m not saying get rid of the guy, just put him in a position where he can do better. Jones should be a bench player.

  157. Bob Hasis says:

Didn’t you just say above it’s OK for Barmes to make an error. Why not Pedro?

You have to be more consistent.

  158. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Blowouts, Balks, and Bad Defense.
I’ll be happy when the Colorado excursion is finally over.

  159. BDHumbert says:

I am not a big Brian Morris fan

  160. Lad9 says:

Maybe my all time favorite exchange on here. Just dandy! ;)

  161. theplanisworking says:

Quit being so rational and logical. That isnt allowed here.

  162. Bob Hasis says:

Yeah you may have to change your name to 2014

  163. Brandie says:

    Dear Ghost,

I apologize for making the blog regress to its predetermined mean with all of mylewd and lascivious talk.

  164. theplanisworking says:

One of 2 things happened this weekend…………..

    1) The universe was against the Pirates, thats baseball, or

    2) This team highly underestimated Colorado, looked past them toward St. Louis this week.

    Or maybe both.

  165. BDHumbert says:

Maybe we could leave Barmes and Hurdle their – they seem to like it better than Pittsburgh

  166. Arriba Wilver says:

Ok. I was going to say my part about being put to bed was a little silly. Nothing about the Pirates and money gets put to bed. :-)

But in terms of “bad at business,” the $5 mil is spent if he’s on the team or not. He’s been replaced by Mercer, appropriately, as the starter. So the extra cost would be the difference between whoever would be brought up’s minor league salary and the major league minimum. That amount wouldn’t even get BN to twitch.

  167. Playoffs by 2012 says:

This series reminded me a lot of what the early 90’s teams would to do whenever they made a trip to LA to play the Dodgers.

No matter what time of year, and how well they had been playing prior to boarding that plane, it was ALWAYS a debacle out there.

If they lay an egg in St. Louis I’ll start worrying.
    But until then…

    STAY CALM & BREAK .500

  168. theplanisworking says:

    She isnt here today.

  169. Thundercrack says:

I think Friday’s game got the Pirates attention, regarding the Rockies

  170. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I’m thinking more along the lines of Playoffs?? by 2012

  171. Thundercrack says:

I think Bob Walk wants to tell Nevrett “will your lease quit complaining about that balk call?!”

  172. Brandie says:

I would agree with both. What the Pirates have to understand is that the landscape changes with winning. Teams are now gunning for them so they need to be prepared to ball every place and every time.

  173. Lad9 says:

+5,280. Lets get out of here without seeing the trainer on the field again.

  174. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Even we stopped complaining about it.

  175. Arriba Wilver says:

And Brandon Inge is still on the team if the part about Clint is true.

  176. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Bad three games in a venue we don’t have to see again until 2014.

  177. Thundercrack says:

    ‘please quit’

  178. Ghost says:

    Barmes first error since June.
    Pedro’s first error since… yesterday?
Petey has 23 or 24 this year and is on pace for 30+. Either we get him straightened out, or we move his bat to first.

  179. Arriba Wilver says:

    Well, for now maybe . . . . ;-)

  180. theplanisworking says:

    Very much agree Brandie.

I think Friday night, they definitely overlooked the Rockies.
Saturday, and today, there were breaks against them, but they still thought they could just roll the ball out there and make a comeback.

Bottom line, you dont get swept by a bad team. Period.

  181. Brandie says:

Thank you for your voice of reason.

  182. 21sthebest says:

I think one thing happened this weekend: we played poorly.

  183. Arriba Wilver says:

Nice to see Tony come through.

  184. 21sthebest says:

I volunteer my pinch running services.

  185. Lad9 says:

He does not look out of place at all in the show, does he…

  186. Arriba Wilver says:

    Not really.

  187. Thundercrack says:

Guess those x-rays were really negative

  188. Lad9 says:

    C’mon AP!

  189. Ghost says:

    Dear Brandie,
Don’t you dare apologize for ever being lewd, lascivious, or even licentious! Now, I’m off to go skinny dipping in Hippo’s pond!

  190. florida steeler says:

How long to they keep Presley on this team?? They needed a right fielder and did NOTHING and play people like Presley.

  191. 21sthebest says:

Did you check with any former newspaper editors?

  192. tdb1977 says:

Let the ball hit you Presley! Bases are loaded and tieing run is 90 feet away! God, I hope they dont keep you around after this season. You are more worthless than anything I have seen.

  193. Ghost says:

So Coors Field became our new House of Horrors.

  194. theplanisworking says:

Bob Walk with yet another funny…………..

“we have to get this offense on track soon”.

Bobbie, we havent really done that all year.
You are 4 months behind on this topic.

    A 10-1 blowout Friday.
2 close games still result in a loss.

Against 2 of the worst teams in the NL the past 12 games, the Pirates went 6-6.
You have to regularly beat the bottom-feeders. The Pirates didnt.
Now, off to St. Louis. Only saving grace is that the Cardinals arent setting the world on fire either.

And, no, I dont have any answers for this offense, either.

  195. Playoffs by 2012 says:

I can not for the life of me understand why they don’t give Lambo a shot in right at this point.

Between Tabata, Presley, and Harrison all you really have are 3 pinch-runners/defensive replacements.

  196. theplanisworking says:

    HAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  197. Brandie says:

A day late and a dollar short. Time to lick the wounds and start again.

  198. twentytwo22 says:

It doesn’t matter where they go they take their offense with them. If you are facing Chad Bettis with a chance to avoid getting swept and can only get 2 runs, you stink.

  199. tdb1977 says:

Hopefully he doesnt have any of Paco fish that are over in Scandinavia that have a fancy for male parts as they look like berries that they can crush with their powerful jaws.

  200. theplanisworking says:

Get on the phone with TBMTIB, and voice your concerns.
    Forget Frank, he is drinking.

But someone should be able to help you.

  201. florida steeler says:

And, unless you hit the fly ball right at Tabata, he won’t make a play.

  202. Eric Bowser says:

Balk, walks, errors, and no offense = LOSS

  203. Brandie says:

The Pirates should know that better than any team as they were under the bottom feeders for so long.

  204. Ghost says:

I knew that would creep you out! But Brandie gave me the thumbs up, so off go the clothes! KER-SPLASHHHH!!

  205. Reading says:

Granted, I’m listening on radio and not watching, but when we finally get a clutch gap shot, you have to send Walker to try and tie the game. The extra hit needed to gwt Walker invariably never materializes.

  206. Eric Bowser says:

Before today, Rockies pitchers gave up 4.38 runs per game at home, their hitters scored 5.13 per game.

Pirates just scored 1, 4, and 2 runs in their three games.

    That sucks.

  207. Ghost says:

If he doesn’t, he’s probably ordering some right now so he can run me off.

  208. Brandie says:

You took this in another direction. You have my eternal gratitude!

  209. The Gunner says:

Yeah, that Tabata is really lazy

  210. Lad9 says:

I can’t believe he turned out of the way of that. Was screaming at the screen. No excuse.

  211. theplanisworking says:

And on goes the shotgun !!!! ;)
    Or Piranhas.

  212. theplanisworking says:

1000 Pacos for the win !!!

  213. Brandie says:

Cue the 70’s wa-wa guitar music and an Isaac Hayes/Barry White/Billy Dee Williams voice over.

  214. Eric Bowser says:

The problem is, Walker wasn’t running all that fast.

He’s breaking down faster than Lindsay Lohan’s acting career.

  215. The Gunner says:

Yeah, that Frank is a real character. Not only is he constantly pie-eyed, but he is a smug alkie

  216. Reading says:

Imagine if the Braves had held Bream at third because he might get thrown out.

  217. Thundercrack says:

At first I thought the same thing. But they did get the ball in quick from the outfield. Plus Sanchez got to second so there wouldn’t be a game ending double play

  218. Eric Bowser says:

If Starling Marte was healthy enough to run, he’s healthy enough to hit.

  219. theplanisworking says:

I prefer Chef from South Park. :)

  220. The Gunner says:

And Walker can run much better than Bream could. There goes that freakin’ Leyva again. Frank Oceak would have sent him in 1960.

  221. Arriba Wilver says:

With a hand injury? Glad you’re not my doctor or trainer, Eric.

  222. Thundercrack says:

    Marte needs a personal trainer

  223. 21sthebest says:

You have got to be kidding.

  224. CWalton_67 says:

    Same. Old. Pirates.

  225. Eric Bowser says:

If there’s a problem with the hand that would be a concern, I’d be concerned with any play that Marte had to slide into base/plate.

  226. Eric Bowser says:

    nope… you dress, you play.

  227. Eric Bowser says:

Hopefully the competition in STL will bring better execution from everyone for the Pirates.

  228. Ghost says:

Am currently being handcuffed and put into squad car. Was picked up for streaking down Federal Street, dripping wet, and stark naked. Police are not believing my story about this Pond located inside the ballpark.
They’re telling me I get one phone call. Who should I call?

  229. tomp says:

There was no excuse for Walker to not score on that play.

I was watching the replay, and it was obvious that ball was not going to be caught.
As i looked at Walker, he was standing flat footed a few feet before 2nd base.

Sucks being a Pirate fan this weekend, and i am afraid its only going to get worse , over the next few days.

Now this team is coming out on the short end of 1 or 2 run games.

It’s going to be a LONG last 50 games.
They should make the Playoffs by default, but won’t last long.
Scoring 2 runs off a guy that was just in AA, not AAA, is pathetic.
It’s time to give someone else a shot in RF.
Presley, is a nice guy, but fails always in the clutch, or when he is given a chance to prove himself.
Tabata is just a plain old lazy DOG!.

Amazing this team has done so well , with such a black hole playing RF all season long.
At least 12 more wins SHOULD be attainable.

  230. 21sthebest says:

Tomp, where was Walker when the outfielder let go of the ball?

  231. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    Bring it!

  232. 21sthebest says:

I don’t think you understand the nature of contusions/bone bruises.

  233. tomp says:

He took 1 off the hand last night, for pete’s sake.

Just to be on the safe side, maybe 2 days off would get it back to normal size.
There should have been no reason to have him in this game, but since they could only score 2, and had a realistic chance at 3 or 4, his legs would have come in handy.
I am glad he didn’t play today.
They need him for the next 50 games, HEALTHY!.

  234. Brandie says:

    Geraldo Rivera!

  235. tomp says:

I don’t recall exactly. I do recall him standing BEFORE he rounded second base, flatfooted, making sure it would drop in.

No outfielder close to that ball, and no way anyone was catching it.
It was just a terrible read on his part.

  236. Thundercrack says:

Watching the replay of Tabata on that hit in the RF corner, I didn’t think he dogged it.

  237. Arriba Wilver says:

  238. Thundercrack says:

    you dress, you play.

I believe that is for over on the Penguins thread.

    sensitive Pirate fan

  239. The Gunner says:

I really think the Bucs took the Rockies lightly. They were looking ahead to St. Louis.

The Bucs will take 2 of 3 against the Cardinals.

  240. Eric Bowser says:

And if it is that bad, I’d love to see what the reaction is around here if Marte got into a collision or injured it worse sliding into a base.

  241. Thundercrack says:

They got beat 10-1 on Friday.

Doesn’t that get their attention that they shouldn’t take the Rockies lightly.

(btw, I don’t believe any MLB team takes another team lightly..especially one that has lost for 20 straight years)

  242. Arriba Wilver says:

You think they’re pretending he injured his hand?

If he got injured sliding there’d be plenty of criticism (that’s new?)

But that’s different than saying he should bat, too.

  243. Eric Bowser says:

It is ok, I know baseball players are soft.

  244. The Gunner says:

We gotta put this nightmare of a weekend behind us, there’s nothing we can do about what happened.

Of all the championship Pirate teams I have seen (1960, 1971 & 1979), this team has the lousiest offense of them all. Our pitching had made us successful so far in 2013. Unfortunately, the pitching staff needs to turn things up a notch or two cuz we can’t depend on this offense for much help!!

  245. Brandie says:

    I will bail you out!

  246. theplanisworking says:

    Ghostbusters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  247. tomp says:

Maybe not, but it looked like his main concern was not to turn it into a triple.

They really need to get this RF carousel over with, and either bring someone up from AAA, or find someone hanging off the waiver wire.

There has to be someone they can throw out their right?.

I have seen enough of Tabata, Presley, at least he tries most of the time, he is just not a full boned major league baseball player.
The swings these guys take, and the pitches they don’t swing at , are just mind boggling.

Hitting coach has done a terrible job.
Hope the plane ride to St louis puts them in a “good place”, but i am feeling more of the same crap is coming up over the next 3 games.

I will predict they get swept,
1 game they will get shut out in
1 game they will get pelted in
1 game they will lose thanks to their defensive lapses.

  248. 21sthebest says:

But that’s the key to knowing if Leyva made the right call from our perspective. Where Walker was when the outfielder threw the ball.

  249. 21sthebest says:

They took a risk by playing him today. But I bet the risk of him hurting it worse in the nature you described was extremely low.

  250. 21sthebest says:

Didn’t Cutch dress and pinch hit on Thursday?

  251. Thundercrack says:

Way out there as soon as it gets to the corner it is a double

  253. Thundercrack says:

I wonder how much worse our offense is than the 2012 Giants team that won the World Series. Their pitching carried them.

And yes I think our hitting has to get better

  254. Arriba Wilver says:

But they had Freddy. (C’mon, you didn’t think I was going to pass that up, did you?)

  255. Thundercrack says:

Freddie was on the other WS team. Not last year.

  256. Drew71 says:

    Interesting thread today.

    Reminds me of a quote…

“We have hands; we can stand on them if we want to.”
    ― Elizabeth Gilbert

She musta been talking about Starling Marte

  257. tomp says:

Yeah, when he first made his way onto the scene(that series in Toronto, where he hit a HR), i thought he might be a Brett Butler/Steve Finley type player.

2 years later, he seems to be overwhelmed at the plate, very shaky in the outfield, and a below average arm.

He had a chance to be a hero , and take one for the team, but he backed out of that inside pitch, that surely would have nicked him.

Amazing they just keep sending these guys out their.
    BTW- nice bunt Tabata!.
Signing him to an extension, has to rank right up their with some of NH’s worst moves ever.

They won’t cut him, nobody will trade for him, but that’s not a reason why he should be given this much playing time.
    He’s a 240 . hitter, has a career game 1x every 10, and is a terrible outfielder.

This Lambo guy may not be the next Mickey Mantle, but for Christ’s sake, give the guy a shot already!.

  258. tomp says:

Bob Walk is a babbling idiot.
Maybe he should address himself as Bobby Obvious.

He went on a little too long, on that phantom balk call also.

The Pirate’s color men are some of the worst in the game, no question!.

  259. Arriba Wilver says:

    He still counts. :-)

  260. tomp says:

He didn’t take a 90 mph fastball off his hand the previous evening.

  261. Thundercrack says:

    Worst offense
    Worst RISP
    Worst third base coach
    Worst owner
    Worst color men

    Worst losing streak

  262. Lad9 says:

No you rock! Thank you Playoffs.

  263. Thundercrack says:

He may not even be the next Jeff Clement

  264. Thundercrack says:

    Hi Drew!
    How’s the bacon beer?
    How’s the wife?
    How’s the weather?

    Btw, the Pirates stink.

  265. CWalton_67 says:

A very poor effort. Utterly lifeless with the exception of Alvarez homer. Locke battled and deserved a better fate. Runners on 2nd and 3rd in the ninth, one out. Can’t score a run. Bad baseball. I saw nothing today to turn me back into a fan of this team.

  266. 21sthebest says:

I’m not sure what your point is.

  267. 21sthebest says:

Eric, was Marte able to hold a bat today good enough to swing?

  268. Drew71 says:

    Hi, ThunderFrank.

    Crème Brûlée Stout tonight.

Wife is 160 miles away. So good.

  269. TJ says:

Which bridge are you going to jump from tonight? I’ll bring the popcorn.

God almighty these posts are absolutely silly.

    I predict:

I will have to pay taxes
    I will eventually die
The Pirates and every other team in baseball will lose at least 3 more games this season

  270. theplanisworking says:

If you are like 35% of Americans, you will not pay taxes. Tax attorneys and loopholes are wonderful things.

Yes, we all will eventually die.

If you listen to some on here, the Pirates will never lose another game, ever. And, they will call others Eeyores, and Chicken Littles at every opportunity.

    Quite sad.

  271. theplanisworking says:

    GO JANDY GO !!!!!!!
