  1. Is Tabby hurt?

  2. Gaby against a righthander?

    Lets pull a
    Costanza on the West Coast!

  3. I see no reason why this “loaded” lineup doesn’t score about 8 runs tonight.

  4. Rajai Davis is 37 for 40 in the stolen base department this year. Yeah, he still plays.

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Tonight’s Line
Total STRIKEOUTS THROWN by the AJ Burnett in tonight’s game
    Line is 8.5

    GOOD LUCK!!!

73 Down, only 9 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  6. Playoffs, 100 on the OVER please..

  7. Marte scratched. Tabata leads off in LF.

  8. Heard an interesting baseball tidbit today.

In the first 51 years of its existence, the New York Mets never played in three different time zones on three consecutive days. They have done that feat twice this year.

Tonight, Atlanta at Citi (ET). Yesterday at Minnesota (CT). Sunday at San Diego (PT).

I feel bad for their beat writers.

  9. Tabata is rapidly becoming our second hottest hitter, after McCutchen.

I think that says something about everyone else, unfortunately.

  10. Marlins broadcast just did an interview with Mary Robinson, widow of former Pirate Bill Robinson. Classy lady

  11. 93.7 FM reporting…..Chase Headley placed on waivers?

  12. I like these Left Coast games. Out to dinner with my wife, no hurry, no checking of line ups required. It is amost like having a real life!

  14. Don’t like a lineup without Marte in it

  15. OK. I hope that everyone had a great dinner and cleaned their plates, and then chained the refrigerator shut. Because, remember, we have NO food for the trolls!

  16. Goldschmidt grand slam. 5-0.

  17. Goldschmidt just hit a grand slam for the Diamondbacks in the 8th to put them up 5-0 against Cincy.

  18. Final-

    Arizona 5
    Reds 2

  19. I still hate the Brewers – but yayyy to them tonight – now up 6-3 on Redbirds. Keep piling it on Crew.

  20. Garrett Jones and Gaby Sanchez in the same lineup… this should be offensive!

  21. Mariano Rivera just won his 80th career game to go along with 644 saves. Safe to say he’s had a hand in more wins than any other pitcher in bug league history ?

  22. On Goldschmidt, he’s a beast. The type of player where, after watching a few games and numerous at bats, you are looking for a hole in his swing or a small area of the plate he does not cover or cover well — and you don’t really find anything.

He’s the West’s version of Joey Votto.

  23. WALKER !!!!!!!

    1-0 good guys!

  24. He is really swinging the bat well from the left side. Great to see.

  25. McCutchen….

“Don’t you guys go anywhere. I plan to put on a hitting display.”

    ….or not

  26. 2 of the worst defensive teams………. SD and MIL.

We play them like 15 more times, right?

  27. Pedro needs some oxygen two nights in a row! Bucs up 2-0 early.

    • STEVE!!!

      • Hey Playoffs! Sorry to have missed you when the Bucs were in DC, but with getting back from a long trip and work, I didn’t have much time to read the blog much. We did get to see the three wins in DC in person, so that was great. How you been?

        • Doing well.

I only was able to get out to 2 games during the DC series.
Forgot how much of a debacle it is to get to that place from NOVA.

Had the family with me for both, so not much time to socialize, ya know?

  28. If Venable puts his hand up there and doesn’t pull the stuck ball out, is that a ground rule double?

  29. Team has given AJ some runs to work with of late, time for him to step up.

  30. Can tell you air is not as thick tonight as it was last evening, chance for balls to carry if hit well, the Pirates put on a show in BP.

  31. Amarista. Works at Starbuck’s doesn’t he ?

  32. 1 down
    8 to go

  33. Pirate absolutely squaring up an ripping the ball tonight, bullett by Gaby Sanchez. The sound off the bat very crisp early on.

  34. Is this San Diego air better for Pedro?????

He seems like he is 100 pounds lighter.

    3-0 good guys!!

  35. Ho hum just another RBI triple for Pedro, Mr. Offense this series.

  36. Pedro enjoying his trip to San Dog with a great triple to the left center gap. 3-0 Buccos!!

  37. Mercer shown on TV doing the Bull dance or something was classic.

  38. For Real…Who are these guys??

    • It sounds silly to say about the league’s leading home run hitter, but this is the first time I can recall, seeing him looking and acting like he belongs in the majors(of course here comes an error as I write this). He just seems to have a look about him — the deer seems to have escaped the headlights?

    • I hear ya on the DC traffic. I too had the family with me at each game, so not much time but to watch the Bucs kick some gnats behinds.

  39. Final

    Milwaukee 6
    St. Louis 3

  40. AJ tells Alonzo to STFD….needlessly throws extra pitches due to error, but buckled down when he had to, he has that look tonight.

  41. Big 0 there after the Pedro error.

  42. 53 pitches. Hopefully he settles down and gets some quick outs and goes 7.

  43. AJ escapes a big jam caused by himself, the shift, and maybe a bad call at first on a pickoff. He got helped out slightly by the home plate ump making up for a ball four on a ball that looked to be a high strike, by calling a high strike on the next guy. Come on bats – more runs!!!!

  44. Gaby Sanchez says I can hit righties too thank you.

  45. Leadoff double. Sanchez with 2 hits tonight.

  46. If Gobby can hit righties
    But Jones can’t

Then who plays against a lefty?

    Sonja Henie is out.

  47. Bad game so far from Mercer. 0-2 after those 2 Sanchez hits.

    • I’m not disagreeing but I have been really impressed with Mercer overall. His approach at the plate is much better then most on the team. I can’t remember the last time I thought to myself this guy is killing us. He has had very few prolonged slumps. I will be the first to admit I was wrong on him.

  48. Leave it to the WV guy to take AJ deep and quick too. That ball got out of there in a hurry.

  49. They are overthinking on these shifts at times. That is two balls tonight that if Mercer is in normal position it is a routine groundout. Come on AJ get out of this with a 3-1 lead.

  50. I am not a fan of AJ’s antics/expressions on the mound after bad plays from his teammates

  51. Night all! Keep the Bucs going while I catch some Zzzzzz. That alarm goes off way too early to be up this late anyway. Go Bucs!!!

  52. Pirates visit the Navy Seals. Wonder who won the telephone pole carrying contest?

  53. “Jones is in a little bit of a funk.” – Greg Brown. Really ?

  54. Almost hits are outs.

  55. Big inning here for Burnett.

  56. Pedro sticks with it and gets the first out.

  57. Burnett has 96 pitches. San Diego is at the 6th spot in their order. Time to go to the bullpen.

  58. Last night, and so far tonight, the starters have given the bullpen much needed rest.

  59. The Seattle Mariners apparently secretly extended the contract of GM Jack Zduriencik before the season. Hmm.

    Hi Frank.

  60. Thank God that ball dropped. Mercer gets ball 4 called strike 1. A single is better for the baseball card.

  61. Burnett is staying in for another inning. Walks on a full count. 1st and 2nd nobody out. Chance for insurance.

  62. Tabata with his first offensive contribution tonight, sacrifices the runners up.

  63. Last night 3-1.
    So far tonight, 3-1.

Is this a result of poor hitting, or good pitching?

    And nice hidden ball trick.

  64. This offense is an abomination.

  65. CUTCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. McCutchen got a 2-0 count and overswung on an outside fastball. Instead of poking it the other way. He works the count full and hits a high outside fastball the other way to the right CF gap for a 2 run triple. That’s a big-time hit right there.

Walker got a 3-2 breaking ball and rolled over it for an easy out. He didn’t stay inside the ball and failed. McCutchen did and succeeded.

  67. Cutch gets into the triple act tonight to give Bucs four run cushion, nice to see the 3, 4 hitters driving in runs. Much different trip to Petco this year compared to what I witnessed last season.

  68. I see why Black didn’t walk Cutch.

  69. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

Brown having another heart attack calling the action………………..

  70. I always liked JHay.

  71. Harrison shows the benefit of being a hacker. He hits an opposite field bases loaded triple on a high outside fastball. 8-1 Pirates.

  72. Josh Harrison pinch hitting for Jones? That’s gotta hurt, I don’t care who you’re married to.

  73. JHay with a bases clearing triple, Bucs third of night as Pirates blow game open, 8-1.

Bucs about to improve to 8-2 in games I’ve attended, this is as much fun as Anaheim was…Pirate fans here chanting Let’s Go Bucs, just awesome!

  74. Who the heck was that, up at the top of this thread , mentioned the Pirates would score 8 runs with this loaded lineup

  75. Clint knows what he’s doing.

    • I think he has navigated through and averted collapse III…team once again showing great resilency and bounce back, great start to last west coast swing of year.

  76. Probably selective perception, but it seems really odd to see a Pirate get a hit with bases loaded.

  77. Tip of the hat to AJ who goes seven strong and makes statement that he can pitch in August.

  78. Hopefully back to back wins and the two pitchers that we depend on the most showing they are not going anywhere will reduce some of the panic. It sounds like the team never paniced and that is more important then anything. I’m glad your getting to see some good games JRay. Have a good night everyone.

  79. Mazzaro improves his ERA. 3 outs to go.

  80. DK just announced a regular appearance on ESPN2 (Keith Obermans new show) on his morning blog. Make sure you give him congrats. Well deserved.

    DK: Thanks, Nate.

  81. After the 2-7 debacle, props to Clint for calming the clubhouse, and keeping the team focused. Along with the calmness, the starters have given 14 shutdown innings, saving the bullpen.

This is what the Bucs need to do.
It will overcome the offensive shortcomings, albeit they scored 8 tonight. :)

DK: Actually, Hurdle didn’t manage this game. He only manages the losses.

  82. Raise that Hippo!

    Lets get a sweep tomorrow!

  83. Behind seven dominant innings from AJ Burnett, a five run seventh and three triples from the bats, the Bucs dismantle SD 8-1 to win the series and there was noooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Bucs improve to 74-51 take a two game lea in the Central and remain 8.5 up for a playoff spot. The Pirates improve to 9-9 in August and are 2-0 on this seven game road swing.

The Bucs will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon with Gerritt Cole taking the mound for the Bucs!

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  84. Nice game from the Pirates!….Even nicer to see them get some clutch hits.
