  1. May I have some Pie?

  2. Anyone know what the corresponding move was?

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Today’s Pick ‘Em Line
Total HITS by Pirates Batters in today’s game
    0-3 (DOUBLE ODDS)
    4-7 (EVEN ODDS)
    8-11 (EVEN ODDS)
    12-15 (DOUBLE ODDS)
    16 or More (TRIP-TRIP-TRIPLE ODDS)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

74 Down, only 8 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  4. Great tweet from DK, who looks surprisingly like Tim Tebow now.

The inimitable @SuckMeter on Garrett Jones’ slump: “He looks as confused at the plate as Mike Zagurski does with a salad in front of him.”

Wish I could listen to that show at work. No can do.

  5. I’ll take 100 on the 8-11 Line please.

  6. McPherson will be taken off Triple-A DL, and be called up, then immediately moved to the Major League 60-Day DL.

    That is my prediction.

    • I think you hit that just right.

Plus I don’t think Presley has been down for 10 days yet, hence the move

      • Presley and Lambo can’t come up unless there is an injury.
Pie comes up for a few games.

        Then either Presley comes back,
They trade for another player and that person takes Pie’s 25-man and 40-man spot.

  7. To carry over my comment from the earlier thread in which I stated that there was no chance for the Pirates to gain ground on St. Louis today because it was already 7-0 Cardinals in the second. Well, it is now 7-5 Cardinals after 5. Shows what I know (but you folks had already figured that out.)

  8. With Pie in the lineup, I’m guessing we will score 3.14159265359 Runs.

  9. Someone brought up a good point in the Java thread about who should be our three pitchers in the playoffs.

#1 and 2 are obvious. For #3, I’d personally go with Morton at this point.

Cole and his 100 MPH fastball would be an excellent bullpen option.

    • That would be this guy…………

I had Cole at #3. No issue with CM filing that slot though, depending on which CM showed up.

  10. WTF? Why can’t they bring back Presley? I don’t want a sucky rancid vinegar Pie.

  11. Le’Veon Bell is out 6-8 weeks.

  12. Pecan Pie is the best pie.

  13. Felix Pie just got himself a playoff share

  14. Just saw Buster Olney tweet that Jack Z. in Seattle signed an extension through the 2014 season…way back during the offseason, during the winter meetings. We’re just finding out about it now.

I’m just glad the Pirates are now not the only team to do something that stupid.

  15. Juan D. to the 60 day. I believe I had that.

  16. Mythical outfield: Darryl Strawberry and Felix Pie so Strawberry Pie in the outfield.

If Mark Appel (Boo!) was pitching, the matchup would be Appel vs Pie

(All I could think of off the top of my head).

  17. Greetings from Detroit fellow lunatics. Wish it was actually greetings from San Deigo, but this will do. Going to the Twins/Tigers matchup this evening for stadium number 2. Great to see the Bucs get the victory last night against the Padres, and even happier to see the Cardinals and Reds both lost to help out in the standings. Really hope the Bucs can get the sweep this afternoon before heading up the coast to San Fran for the weekend.

Tonight, I get to witness former Bucco Kevin Correia go up against Anabil Sanchez in this AL Central matchup. Just miss seeing Verlander by a day. Former Bucco, Ryan Doumit will be behind the plate as well for the Twins. Hoping for a decent game tonight. Will be heading to the park shortly and will be scoreboard watching as the Bucs will be playing at the same time.

Have a great evening Bucco Fans. Will try to post a review of the game later tonight and my thoughts on Comerica Park. Until then, LETS GO BUCS! Get the sweep today.

  18. This home plate umpire in the Little league game on espn is ridiculous. He is absolutely ruining the game between two teams that match up quite well.

I know they volunteer, and are not paid. I think more skilled umpires ( an oxymoron for sure) are required.

  19. The Cardinals are going to fiddle around & blow this game.

  20. Correia, Bedard and Ohlendorf are all going tonight, in separate games. Do you think a win will occur for any of the three?

  21. Sucks I won’t be home in time for the game…..They do have that long flight up to SF ya know. Hope they packed long sleeves.

  22. Hanging out in the OF here at Petco, nice to see Jason Grilli throw a bit and he was bringing some velocity, definitely an encouraging sign.

  23. We don’t need him anymore! Maybe the Twins would like him for Morneau!

  24. Here is a sobering statistic….

Gerrit Cole gets a hit in his first at bat today,
He will have a better batting average than 7 of the other 8 starters playing today.

  25. AW, if you visit today, check your e-mail

  26. The 8 St. Louis runs today were scored off Tom Gorzelanny & Mike Gonzalez.

  27. If Felix hits well, could he be the next Felix Pie Traynor?

  28. I have watched Pie in Indy this year. He is a sound, fundamental player.

  29. WOW!!!!!

    Nice slide for a hit!!!

  30. Pie did have 38 SB in the IL, flashed his speed for infield hit not so much on swipe attempt.

  31. Jones 5 for 7 with a homer against Kennedy.

  32. Jones is way due to get at least a hit!

  33. Jones has a good lifetime average against the sky.

  34. Jones is finished. Get Morneau!

  35. Jones sucks… seriously….

  36. Couldn’t they have pinch hit for Jones immediately?

  37. Jones is so bad right now, I could strike him out.

  38. And there goes the No-No……..Send him down.

  39. Of course Pie getting picked off that inning also hurt since it may have lead to a run, or at least better pitches for Martin to hit. Clearly the way Jones has been not hitting, they probably pitched around Martin to get to Jones.

  40. Sitting right behind home plate today next to the other teams scouts, and early observations on Cole- his fastball has such late life, gets on you quick hitting as high as 97, his curve does not have sharp or much downward movement but just based on speed differential can see where he can get batters out in front if placed well does not appear too have total command yet of that pitch.

Really mixed his pitches and speeds in first, maybe part of him making an adjustment.

  41. I’m curious. If Garrett Jones comes back and gets 2 hits tonight, will you all still freak out and say how bad he is and that he needs replaced?

I dont think that will happen, but NW has been coming on strong lately, Jones can too.

  42. For those that really care about where Bob Nutting’s money goes too, here’s a break down of Liriano’s contract.

  43. Cole splitting bats when he comes inside than goes 98, 99 to get Kennedy on strikes, just an electric power arm. He certainly makes it tough in the hitter.

  44. 4,000 hits for Ichiro, sort of.

  45. I’d take this Venable guy for the PIrates RF slot as well.

I was typing that before his double………J/S

  46. Of course, failure in the top of the first now leads to a deficit of 1-0 bad guys.

  47. Happy for Ian Kennedy that he’s gotten his ERA under FIVE.

  48. Hooray!!!
    A hit !!!!!!

    Lets wake up, please.

  49. Remember, every day is one day closer to the electronic strike zone.

  50. Did these guys spend too much time with the Navy Seals today or somethin’? All but Cutch are sleep walking to another loss. Horrible to see since the two teams behind them have won or are winning.

  51. What is Kennedy’s all-time srikeout record? Are we close to bedtime?

  52. Seems Cole is the new AJ. NO run support…or ANY support.

  53. Cole really needs to develop a great breaking ball. They are just sitting dead red on these fastballs.

    • The way they are drilling him, lucky to be in the game. Credit ti him for hanging in there.

    • Was just about to post the same thing. He’s frustrated after all of these hits. Maybe if he mixed up his pitches a little better, that wouldn’t be an issue. Hitters can turn around 95 mph+ heat if that’s all they see.

  54. I just saw where we got Liriano for next year for $6 million with $2 more in incentives.

  55. I hate to state the obvious, but, Dang, Martin is good. That caught stealing should make the highlight reel.

  56. I was afraid something like this could happen tonight.
8 runs last night, only 3 stinking hits for far tonight.

Really need to come back here, SF has always been a bad place for the Pirates to play.
Even when the Giants stunk, we couldnt get too many wins there.

Need to wake up and beat this bottom-feeding team.

  57. Let’s see what Barmie can generate

  58. In his last start, Ian Kennedy gave up 3 home runs in 4.2 innings. TO THE METS.

  59. Got one!!!

    Lets get more!

  60. These guys are killing me. Lol

  61. Cole needs to learn to throw a breaking ball, and Pedro needs to learn how to hit one. When teams go soft, low and away to Pedro he swings over it all day.

  62. Garrett Jones needs to sit for the next week. He has become pretty useless.he should have let the curve in the diet hit him. That’s the only way he would see first.

  63. Ugly loss tonight.
We did take 2 of 3 to this wretched team.

Now off to SF, where the Pirates have historically struggled.
Here is hoping for the best against the Giants.

  64. Since May 1st Garrett Jones has 27 RBI. Pedro has 27 home runs.

  65. Yes,
But Garrett Jones is killing this offense. Come on Neal–get Morneau tomorrow and send Garrett home. Morneau has to do better than Jones and Gaby.

  66. Kennedy’s had a tough year, but he’s a talented pitcher.

  67. Hard loss. Fun chatting with you all. Off to bed. Pleasant dreams.

  68. I remember back in the day if a player was in a bad slump he would burn all his bats and start with new ones. Uh Garret I have a lighter if you need one. Tell Gabby and a few other guys to join ya.

  69. David Dejesus (LH), Marlon Byrd (RH), Nate Schierholtz (LH), Justin Maxwell (RH), Alphonso Soriano (RH), Alex Rios (RH), Adam Dunn (LH), Jeff Francoeur (RH), Justin Morneau (LH), Delmon Young (RH), Mark Reynolds (RH) Roger Bernadina (LH)

Those players above either moved from one team to another, DFA’d or rumored to have been available.

The waiver wire is secret. If I was a betting man, and knowing the respective organizations’ dedication to rebuilding, I would bet Byrd and Schierholtz were placed on waivers. At any rate all of these players were presumably available for trade prior to the deadline. Some of them were actually moved. Young and Francoeur were recently DFA’d.

I find it interesting that the Yankees-fighting for a playoff spot-acquired Soriano and later Reynolds.

I think one or a combination of two of the players above might have helped the Bucs down the stretch. Some could have been got for next to nothing. Others would require money. A few may have costs minor leaguers.

Of course, goes without saying that any given player might not have amounted to a hill of beans. Then again, a change of scenery can do wonders for a ballplayer. Who knows ? But risk is a fact of life for all of us.

    • I think Delmon Young and Jeff Francoeur are less than a hill of beans. They wouldn’t help us.

And I am surprised the Yankees are still fighting for a playoff spot. But have you seen their lineup? That is why they are trading for Soriano and need Reynolds. And I don’t get the Dejesus move by the Nationals.

      • It was a very weird move, TC. But, the point was he was probably available prior to the deadline. Of course, I have no idea what the Cubs wanted. Byrd would probably be the Mets MVP if the vote was taken today (positional player MVP, that is). I’m not big on Francoeur but I’m not sure Delmon Young is finished yet (if he can stay off the sauce).
