Podcast: Cotchery calls Ben ‘as strong as ever’

By Dejan Kovacevic | Trib Total Media

Here’s today’s TribLIVE Radio show podcast featuring my special guests Jerricho Cotchery and Shamarko Thomas of the local football club.

Also on the show, I ask the Trib’s Alan Robinson who will now start at running back, outside linebacker and slot receiver. And the Pirates’ platoon gets panned by @suckmeter.

Here’s video of the opening segment taking calls regarding Justin Morneau

Thanks to all who called and emailed!

Could not agree MORE with the video portion, DK.

    +1

  4. Eric Bowser says:

The time is now to go get Morneau…

  5. Leo Walter says:

No Dejean, you can’t just claim him and he is your’s to sign. What would happen would be this : you notify MLB you are going to claim Morneau. They notify the Twins office, and immediately, they will revoke or pull back the waivers. They will then contact you as GM and ask you what you will give up for him. If you don’t meet their demands, you don’t get him ! Not too hard, try doing some research,or,don’t mislead your listeners.

DK: There was no shortage of research. I fully understand revocable waivers, just as I understand that Morneau told Fox Sports yesterday that the Twins informed him they aren’t getting offers because of his salary.

As Neal Huntington said, and I quote, last Sunday: “If you want a player off waivers, you can have him.”

OF COURSE that involves a trade. That’s how the entire segment was introduced.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

  6. Thundercrack says:

I think the time is now to get Morneau. And I am not defending why the FO has not done it, and I am not in favor of the last poster’s approach.

    But.

In the opening monologue DK, and I know that you fully understand revocable waivers, but you didn’t say that there needed to be a trading of player(s) when a team makes the waiver claim. You said “you basically just take the player”. Now you did use the terminology ” haven’t yet executed a transaction” But it was a bit confusing…even though you did introduce the segment that it was about the factors of a waiver trade.

  7. LetsGoBucs says:

How do you know the Twins aren’t asking for a good prospect for Morneau? You are assuming it’s all about cash, but the Twins don’t have to trade them and wouldn’t have had to trade him if the Pirates put in a waiver claim. For all you know, the Twins are asking for the acquiring team to pay all of Morneau’s salary plus include a prospect that’s a higher value than Huntington wants to trade for a 1-1/2 month rental.

DK: Never change. Please, just never change.

  8. Thundercrack says:

‘The FO will have done absolutely nothing to improve the product from the beginning of the season to the end’

    Very dramatic statement.

But I can contend that they haven’t needed to do anything until now. They are 22 games over .500. We waited for the players we have to improve (are you listening Garrett Jones?). You said that yourself. Now is the time to do something. But to me, the time before this month doesn’t really matter because they were good. So it pokes a bit of a hole in your statement. They haven’t had to make an improvement until now.

And I would say that the made two improvements from within the team: calling up Cole and keeping him here and letting him to continue to pitch, and calling up Bryan Morris -and canning Chris Leroux.

DK: What’s ‘dramatic’ about a hard, verifiable, adjective-free fact?

  9. Daquido_Bazzini says:

Let’s be clear here that whatever player a good amount of Pirate fans are seeking is NEVER the right guy.
    Soriano…Pence….Scherholtz….Rios…..Morneau….
They’re all bums unless Neal Huntington says otherwise.

This is how the Regime works.
If they don’t want to pay anyone, they silently send their attack dogs out to the blogs, radio shows, etc….And let everyone know they’re nuts for thinking of adding to a team in a pennant race.
On top of it….They don’t even have to pay these Regime-ites to back every move or non-move they make!

    Meanwhile….We get Pie.
Eat it!….Courtesy of the Nutting Regime.

  10. Leo Walter says:

” The regime ” ,” the regime “…are you talking about the Assad ” regime ” or are you talking about Major League Baseball ?

  11. Daquido_Bazzini says:

I think I clearly stated I’m talking about the Nutting Regime.

  12. Leo Walter says:

    SMFH….you are hysterical ! The ” Nutting Regime ” indeed !

  13. Jandy says:

Careful, you might mix your marbles ;)
