  1. kr70 says:

Hoping the streak ends against the cardinals.

  2. Bob Hasis says:

One lucky swing for a batter, and a very fortunate swing for we Pirate zanies, and we lose 60 BA points from our starting lineup tonight.

  3. JAL says:

Marte to DL retroactive to last Monday

  4. Ghost says:

A good chance for Lambo to get another round of AB’s during this call up. Problem tonight is, you never know which Tim Lincecum you’re getting. He has had a real up and down season with games as good as his n’o-no,’ to games like Jeff Locke’s last start in SD. Unfortunately, if there’s any kind of rhythm to Lincecum’s swings, he’s now due for a good one.

  5. Ghost says:

About Barmes getting another start at SS: even without the game-winning shot last night, I have no problem with this. Instead of Barmes getting his customary Sunday start, we’ll probably see Mercer be back for the finale, tomorrow. Hurdle will always give Barmes a couple of starts a week. Barmes’ stats may look lowly, but the guy punches over his weight for a .220’s hitter. Seems like he always uses the few hits he has in him for when it counts most.

  6. Bob Hasis says:

. . . .and another 60 BA points behind the plate. With our dynamic offense, why not, we afford it.

  7. Bob Hasis says:

Fortunately, Liriano is going tonight, so we may not need too much offense.

    We’ll see!

  8. Ghost says:

Well, Barmes is an integral part of the team; Hurdle has to find ways to get him in there during the course of a week. Same with guys like Harrison.

  9. Ghost says:

Yes, if we had to pick a night to not have all our bullets loaded, tonight with Liriano pitching would be that night.

  10. JohninOshkosh says:

Heard on radio that Lincecum might get shipped. Could he be auditioning for the Braves tonight, perhaps.

  11. Bob Hasis says:

Yes but there is far less sentiment for JHay to get some routine appearances, than there is for CB.
Must be all in the defense.

  12. Ghost says:

One really has to think that Lincecum and yes, Pence, are being shopped by the Giants. Zito has already been put out there for a while. The Giants still have some good core players, but this season has to be telling them that they need to do some reloading.

  13. Drew71 says:

    Take it back

  14. Thundercrack says:

Well any team watching this audition would have to take into account that Barmes is getting 4 at bats against Lincecum.

  15. Arriba Wilver says:

Forget about Barmes and Sanchez, not having a 1B is a new twist on defensive shifts.

Makes me a little uncomfortable, although it makes sense for RF.

  16. Ghost says:

The Pirates are the suitors and are trying to scare away others.

  17. JohninOshkosh says:

  18. Ghost says:

Good one! Kept re-reading your post, trying to get your meaning. :)

  19. Thundercrack says:

And last night I wanted to mention that Gabby is really good at first base. He’s the best fielding first baseman for the Pirates that I have seen in a long time.

I hope they keep him for 2014 – even if he platoons.

  20. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Tonight’s Line
Total Combined HITS + WALKS + RUNS SCORED by Andrew Lambo in tonight’s game
    Line is 1.5

    GOOD LUCK!!!

76 Down, only 6 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  21. Arriba Wilver says:

    It’s only Monopoly money. :-P

  22. Karen22 says:

50 on the OVER. What the hey.

    GO BUCS!!

  23. Bill Born says:

    100 on the over Please.

  24. Ghost says:

    Pedro’s goin’ to 1B in ’14, I keep telling you guys. ;)

If our roster stays essentially the same next year, Sanchez in roughly the same role he has now would be fine with me, with one stipulation: he has to get better when he pinch-hits.

And with that, Gang, I’m out until later tonight.
(Oh, and Hippo… today while you were out, Rhino tossed all your things into his drained pond, and he has taken over yours. He says, “Hippo can come and make me move if he don’t like it.” Then he crossed out “Hippo” on your “Hippo’s Pond” sign and hand-scrawled “Rhino’s” over it.”)

  25. Lad9 says:

Please count me in for 100 lamb(o) chops on the under and I will be glad to be wrong. Thank you. Go Buccos!!

  26. Lad9 says:

Those damn rhinos are pushy in addition to being permanently horny. Squash him hippo!

  27. theplanisworking says:

    Poor Ghost,

all those injuries have made you hallucinate.

Rhino was able to re-fill his pond by using all the tears you cried.

Besides, we all know Rhinos cant write.

I do hope you have good insurance……….

  28. Dadtackular says:

100 Gene Alley’s on the under

  29. JohninOshkosh says:

50/Legalize it for Timmy on the UNDER

  30. theplanisworking says:

What the heck. If Barmes can hit a HR, I can bet

    100 Hippos on the OVER!

  31. Bob Hasis says:

There is no way the Pirates will closet that superb arm of Pedro, by putting him at 1B.

  32. radio wave says:

Did Dk post that lineup? He’s at that other game, do they use 2 qb’s?

  33. radio wave says:

    100 on the under.

  34. Patrick says:

    From Sawchik on Twitter

Also, Gerrit Cole’s next start has been moved back to Thursday. Locke on Tues, Morton on Wed

So we get Liriano and AJ to start out the two games against the Cards next weekend. But yuckkkk on Locke going Tuesday against the Brewers. Even without the Bug Eyed cheating liar Braun they still have a potent line up. I don’t like our chances with Locke going up against those guys. Unless he starts pitching like the Locke from the first half of the season.

  35. Jason81 says:

Runs scored makes this one much more interesting…

    100 on the OVER, please!

  36. bizrow says:

    100 on the over

    Thanks Playoffs

  37. bizrow says:

Anyone else think the Marte injury was a bit mishandled?

  39. bizrow says:

I do agree though that hand injuries are hard to diagnose

  40. Lad9 says:

Thanks for the invite. I signed up. Much appreciated

  41. Kevin says:

100 last second bigben TD throws on the UNDER please, mr. Playoffs, sir!!

  42. Lad9 says:

Yeah it seems like it. He was getting better, getting better, then boom – DL. It just chaps my butt that it happened on maybe our dumbest play of the year. Stealing third to make the final out with a lefty up.

  43. Irish says:

    50 on Under, Thanks!
    Hope I’m wrong…

  44. Patrick says:

Need him back ASAP – last I read, he was leading the NL in base hits by lead off guys. Not to mention he has a lot of stolen bases this season. Really sucks to lose him to the DL.

  45. theplanisworking says:

Hand injuries are tough to spot.
I have 100% confidence in TBMTIB to always do the correct thing, every single time.

    Its just baseball.

  46. bizrow says:

Thank you, much appreciated from this seat in the peanut gallery

    Reminds me

    Fantasy football

    Dejan’s Lunatics

    Open league, if interested

If you want an invite, and I will send you an invite

  47. Bob Hasis says:

I think it was mis-reported. I mentioned on that day it was dislocated or possibly broken, and it seemed the Pirates were trying to hide something – otherwise why the DL now?

  48. bizrow says:

Stuff happens, but the Wandy injury and this one

Well NH has to learn how to deal with this stuff as well

  49. bizrow says:

If the FO knew that, why did the bring Pie up?

  50. theplanisworking says:

    I bow to neal. ;)

  51. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Anyone remember the last time Liriano started on a Saturday night road game?

  52. bizrow says:

    As the venerable Playoffs posts

76 Down, only 6 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  53. theplanisworking says:

    Good Question.

maybe they just like Pie. ;)

  54. Kevin says:

    Um, free Morneau!?

  55. Playoffs by 2012 says:

  56. Steve J. Smith says:

We’re down 3-0, the cards are up 4-1, and the reds are up 4-2. Not looking good at this point to stay alone in first place.

  57. Steve J. Smith says:

30+ pitches in the first means he’s not going to distance tonight. Offense will need to pick him up tonight.

  58. Bob Hasis says:

Erase my fantasy entry above of possibly not needing too much offense tonight with Lariano on the mound.

  59. diehard says:

Earlier comments about Pedro and 1st base – boy I hope not. Bad hands (errors are mostly caused by his glove, not his arm), bad footwork – bad combination. He’s a DH.

  60. bizrow says:

    Nostrabizus predicts

The sun will come up tomorrow

May not be seen in the burgh, though

The PBC will be no worse than tied for the division lead

    Maybe 6 weeks to go?

    I’m all in

  61. Steve J. Smith says:

The Cy young version of lincecum has shown up tonight, and with the gift “phantom” double in the bottom of the first giving the giants several runs, this is going to be a long game.

  62. theplanisworking says:

As long as you dont predict like the way you are going in Playoffs’ pool, you will be ok. ;)

  63. 21sthebest says:

This comeback victory is going to be sweeeeeeet!

  64. Steve J. Smith says:

Liriano leaving things up tonight and getting hit hard at times. Replay clearly shows the phantom double was FOUL, so we got screwed again by umps.

  65. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Frankie’s leaving the ball up. Not good.

  66. Steve J. Smith says:

I seriously hope so, but nothing I am seeing from anyone tonight looks like that will happen tonight. I will be very happy if it does.

  67. theplanisworking says:

All Yinz guys are going to have to help the Bucs come back tonight.

Between still not feeling well, Frankie just not having it tonight, and not wanting to deal with the trolls that will show up later, I am off to bed. And, I really dont want to get down on the team.

    Good luck, guys.
    Go Bucs!

  68. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Ha ha. Had fun with that last night

  69. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

They can pick away at this lead. No big deal right now.

  70. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Timmy’s looking sick tonight. Might have to chalk this one up to him.

No lineup can crack this stuff tonight.

Question is: can he stay that way?

  71. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

The best thing about this game so far is watching the Giants ball dude try to field.

They said he’s a physics teacher. He may want to keep his day job.

  72. irishjim says:

Anyone that doesn’t worship the golden calf of Hurdle gets automatically labeled a troll by the blog cult. Hilarious.

  73. Steve J. Smith says:

72 pitches for Frankie through 3 innings. Luckily, chuck went deep last night. We are going to need the pen early in this one.

  74. florida steeler says:

Any time someone tells it like it is, the cult on here calls you a troll. Consider the source.

  75. bizrow says:

    Its not over yet

    A pennant race

Thank god I can’t bite my toe nails

  76. Jandy says:

    You sure? ;)

  77. bizrow says:

Hello, I can’t find my toe nails

  78. Jandy says:

Night Hipposter, watch the horny rhinos don’t get after you ;)

  79. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  80. Jandy says:

    Take your shoes off, silly!

  81. Jandy says:

  82. Jandy says:

Man our boys are making Lincecum look really, really good. :(

  83. Steve J. Smith says:

Night all. Get them tomorrow, but I hope to wake up and see they won 5-4.

  84. Kevin says:

    FREE MORNEAU (cut jones)

  85. Jandy says:

    night, Steve!

  86. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  87. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

He has really good stuff and has been on and off all year. Its not our guys, its him.

  88. Jandy says:

Maybe partly…but when they look at good stuff for the third strike, I just wanna hit somebody lol

  89. Lad9 says:

Good evening Jandy. How was the ride with the top down today?

  90. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Understand. The key to Tim is the movement he gets on his pitches.

Remember they only have a split second to pick up the ball, whether its rotation or location. Tough job they have tonight.

  91. Jandy says:

Ahhhh..heavenly, Rad Lad…thanks for asking….sun and breeze both felt goo :)

  92. Jandy says:

err good lol. I think the wine I’m drinking went to my head

  93. Patrick(ri) says:

Giants have shown what happens when you get the bat on the ball with RISP. The Pirates have shown what happens when you don’t. Pretty simple game sometimes.

  94. Jandy says:

What’s with Sanchez? Is he unable to get behind Liriano’s bad pitches? I wish Martin could catch every game lol

  95. Lad9 says:

Awesome. Beautiful day for it. Our boy Frankie doesn’t have it tonight but there is a lot of game left.

  96. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    What do you mean?

  97. Jandy says:

Wow, Sanchez heard me b*ching ;)

  98. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

That’s some power there by Tony. Geez that was hit far.

  99. Jandy says:

Sanchez is having tough time catching Liriano with all the dirt balls and such. I was picking on him.

  100. Jandy says:

Yeah Frankie is struggling. Bums me out. The west coast games i get to watch, these guys don’t do so well….bummer

  101. Patrick(ri) says:

Lincecum keeps trying to get us into the game — he has been wild all night.

  102. Patrick(ri) says:

That is a fair ball on the other side!

  103. Jandy says:

But hey, it worked, he hit a homer!

  104. bizrow says:

    Too smelly

  105. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Ah OK. That’s more on Liriano. He has to keep the ball down and even in the dirt. All a catcher can do is block it.

  106. bizrow says:

I think I like this club

We’re losing, bottom of 5 but

    Never say die

  107. Jandy says:

well then I guess I was kinda right…Martin does a better job of that most nights ;)

  108. Lad9 says:

I was thinking last night Jandy that Martin was looking awful tired and it might not be a bad idea to give him Sunday off too. That would give him three days in a row off. Not sure i could do it if we lose this one though.

  109. Jandy says:

    dayum right, Biz!

  110. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Sanchez is doing a good job. Toughest job on the diamond. He’s blocking the ball well…

  111. Patrick(ri) says:

    Beat em Bucs!

  112. Jandy says:

If it’s possible, Lurch is doing even worse than Frankie sheesh!

  113. Karen22 says:

    Jared Hughes stinks.

  114. Jandy says:

you said it, not me! lol

  115. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

And nothing he can do to block that one. Its called a wild pitch for a reason.

  116. Lad9 says:

I hear ya Ryan. I actually like him a lot and feel better with him in there than the Fort. Nothing anyone could do there . This could get out of hand with Lurch in there.

  117. Jandy says:

Anyone see Brandie today? I miss her :/

  118. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Yup. Wasn’t a fan of bringing him in.

  119. Jandy says:

as you typed it, Laddie….it’s getting uglier…

  120. Jandy says:

    true dat

  121. Lad9 says:

He may have a ticket to Indy in his immediate future.

  122. JohninOshkosh says:

The Giants telecast has been entertaining. They’ve been talking about the third base ball dude a lot. Seems he is a physics teacher. Entertaining stuff and discussion about him.

Boy, if last night was baseball at its sublime, this game is a slog to get through. Both pitchers going through a lot of pitches. I’m glad Lincecum is not a Pirate. Dude is just frustrating to watch.

  123. Thundercrack says:

Just got back from a movie & dinner. What did I miss?

  124. JohninOshkosh says:

I bet the movie was better.

  125. Jandy says:

    we can hope

  126. Jandy says:

    ding ding ding you win!!

  127. Jandy says:

Nice, Gabby jumps on one and scores Cutch :)

  128. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Good I missed it.

They got to their BP. That’s key.

  129. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Whole new ball game folks.

  130. Jandy says:

    And Sanchez scores Pedro :)

  131. JohninOshkosh says:

    Interesting trivia question on CSN.

Last team to have 3 complete games by its pitchers in a playoff series.

Answer was 92 Pirates Wakefield had 2 and Walkie had 1.

This game is far from over, btw.

  132. Thundercrack says:

It was the new Woody Allen movie. Not bad…very good cast

  133. Jandy says:

    Yup I like it.

  134. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

John, I love listening to these guys. Except for the current Dave Fleming.

  135. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Tony Sanchez hitting the ball well tonight. He might be starting to figure it out up here. Good sight to see.

  136. JohninOshkosh says:

How was Andrew Dice Clay in a Woody Allen movie ? lol.

  137. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I would not complain if Hunter Pence played RF for the Pirates.

  138. Steelag70 says:

At least this game is better than the one was at Heinz Field tonight…lol.

  139. Thundercrack says:

He wasn’t bad. But he won’t have worry about writing / rehearsing an academy award acceptance speech.

  140. Steelag70 says:

Lurch and Vin not sharp tonight…

  141. Kevin says:

How many of the SF runs were because of our (noob) catcher? Seems like he let at least 7 get away so far.

  142. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  143. irishjim says:

Using Wilson that inning may have been useful against all those lefties. But who am I to criticize the almighty Hurdle. He only makes bad decisions about half the time.

  144. diehard says:

Honestly, none – maybe one. Pitchers are really all over the place. Pedro pretty much gave up two in the first inning with a bad throw and watching a broken bat instead of the ball (plus the foul double SF was given).

  145. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Nice break there. Thanks Scutaro.

  146. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Vin got the lefties out. Pablo Sandoval is a switch hitter.

  147. Lad9 says:

Lopez against Pedro could be truly ugly. He s the ultimate LOOGY.

  148. irishjim says:

    I stand corrected thanks

  149. Jandy says:

  150. Jay H says:

Statistically speaking, you knew that was coming

  151. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

  152. Jandy says:

    :sigh: yes i did lol

  153. Jandy says:

but ya know, I sure wouldn’t mind if he’d statistically surprise me!

  154. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Without a doubt.

  155. irishjim says:

He launched one of those doubles the other night off a lefty we hoped he could repeat

  156. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Since its a Pirates game, I’m enjoying this bottle of rum. Though its much weaker than my usual.

  157. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

But Javy is so filthy against lefties. Hope is all he had there.

  158. florida steeler says:

No one on that awful Pirate bench so you have to stick with Pedro in that situation.

  159. Jay H says:

He’s pretty much a no show in a clutch situation…..does well when there’s nothing on the line, early in the game, Bucs are ahead, etc….

  160. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Am I the only one that seems like this game has taken forever?

  161. Jandy says:

    Dirty Javy!

  162. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

I’m not pinch hitting for Pedro regardless of who’s on the bench.

  163. Jandy says:

eh..between this game and the wine, I’m ready for bed…shortly…

  164. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Up now is dirty Sanchez

  165. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    You mean the whine?

  166. Jandy says:

lol…not too much of it tonight…easy to ignore….but this peach wine is darn good :)

  167. florida steeler says:

With his average against lefties, you have to consider it if you have a quality bat on the bench. His average against lefties is not defensible.

  168. irishjim says:

Well played. Am I the only one not drinking?

  169. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Some of your comments would lead me to believe you were…

  170. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

That was funny right there….I don’t care who you are

  171. irishjim says:

  172. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

His average sucks, but what he can do makes up for the lack of average against.

    Unless you have???
Oh crap, they should’ve kept Inge

  173. JohninOshkosh says:

Not the only one. Seems like this game started 8 hours ago. Heck, the Steelers have played a whole game, OT and all, and TC went to dinner and a movie. Still not over in that time.

  174. diehard says:

His average outside of the month of June is not defensible.

  175. Jandy says:

actually, he set himself up lol

  176. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Almost over John. Thank goodness Jordy’s up to compensate for what Barmes.

    CB was robbed earlier BTW.

  177. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Was waaaaayyy too easy

  178. diehard says:

Outside of June, his average is .213. 1/3 of his home runs and almost 1/3 of his RBI’s came in three weeks during the month of June. He leads the league in HR’s yes – and strikeouts, and errors, and swings and misses.

  179. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

Ladies and Germs, I’ll be in the stands tomorrow down the 3rd base line with the wife and 2 of my boys.

Hoping to see AJ shut them down and win the series.

Cheap plug time: follow me on instagram and/or twitter for pictures.

I’ll do my best to check in tomorrow to add updates.

Can someone please repost this in tomorrow’s thread in case I don’t get back.

  180. Nor Cal Stlrfanrtc (Ryan) says:

    Rtcoul on both

  181. Lad9 says:

Ok AJ. Need ya tomorrow. The veteran leader of the staff needs to step up and I am very confident he will.

  182. Jandy says:

and that is that…good night all :)

  183. Lad9 says:

    Good night Jandy.

  184. florida steeler says:

Be careful–you are giving FACTS–the cult will get you. They don’t want FACTS and when you give them, you are a troll. Amusing.

  185. diehard says:

:-) I know – and I’m really, sincerely into this team, but I am NOT a Pedro fan. He’s got one skill, and pretty much only one. At some point, he will be a DH. I don’t like when people compare him to Aramis Ramirez. Pedro is nowhere near Aramis. At age 26, Ramirez was a Cub, hitting 36 HRs, 103 RBIs, .318 BA, .951 OPS, and struck out 62 times in over 600 AB’s. Anyone who think Pedro reminds them of Aramis needs to wake up a little.

  186. Daquido_Bazzini says:

    Thanks alot Atlanta!….As usual.
