  1. If they play as well as they last night they should win this one.

  2. Both Stolmy Pimental and Kris Johnson in Pirates clubhouse today. A little gamesmanship on naming a starter?

Cardinals have not fared well against LHP this season, Johnson seems like the appropriate choice to take tomorrow’s start.

  3. THANK YOU to Johnny Wisconsin for posting yesterday’s lines for me.
    I sincerely appreciate your help!

Makes my job a helluva lot easier when I don’t have to hunt to find everyone’s “wagers”

Max “wager” is 100 units on any single line.
All “wagers” must be in multiples of 5 units.
Play as few or as many lines as you’d like.
As always, this is for fun and entertainment purposes.

    Tonight’s Line
Total RUNS SCORED by the Pirates in tonight’s game
    Line is 4.5

    GOOD LUCK!!!

78 Down, only 4 more to go!!

Anything is possible if a person believes
    Mark 9:23

    KEEP CALM & BREAK .500

  4. Here is hoping we get 7 strong from AJ. And that we are happy with that!

  5. If you are going to miss Alex Presley, then you probably also miss rotary phones.

    • and travel agents. and rabbit ears. baffles me how many can hate on Tabata but love so much on lil Elvis.

as this franchise turns the corner from laughingstock to competing for championships, us fans will need to adjust our expectations for prospects — we must be critical and aware of all of their gaps and shortcomings, not #FREEANYONEELSE giddy when anyone does something good in the MINOR LEAGUES.

We need prospects like Cutch…and Marte…and Cole….and what Polanco and Taillon seem to have…. not to fixate on the ‘best can do’ on suspects like Presley and Lambo and Allie and Snider and Tabata and….. I don’t think I’ve ever heard NH talk up the prospect abilities…us fans seem to do that for our favorites…. doesn’t serve anyone to do that. We have turned a corner and time we act like it.

    • Miss? I still have one.

      Not really.

    • Meh, I’ll miss AP the same way I’ll miss the Fort when he moves on. They’re both scrappy, they both hustle, but they both have borderline talent to be playing at this level.

I’m sad to see them go because I liked the way they played the game, and I appreciate they gave their all while they were here.
I’m glad to see them go because they’re being replaced by better ballplayers. And, for that matter, sounds like Presley will get some ABs in Minnesota that he wasn’t good enough to get here.

  6. When Marte comes back this trade makes our bench alot stronger. It is a far cry from June when we had Inge, Fort, Barmes, Gabby and Snider as pinch hit options.

  7. To recap, picking up Morneau is a GREAT MOVE. Bucs 26-26 and needed a boost. Players, even NW, can’t complain that the FO needed to pick up reinforcements from the outside. Morneau, Byrd and Buck seem to be the type of veterans who will fit right in, so don’t think the chemistry will miss a beat.

But best part of Morneau move is they gave up almost nothing. Presley was gone anyway. $2.5M is in the bank (though I am aware it is more than budget, but so will revenues be based on increased attendance and postseason play). PTNL likely won’t be big name prospect. So why not roll the dice with Morneau. Great defense, smart hitter… until Marte comes back, you can still play Jones in RF and Morneau at 1B….when Marte is back they can mix and match Jones/Morneau depending on the hot hand. Big plus for the bench no matter who starts.

The postseason 25 may be kind-of interesting… positionally, would think we are looking at:

    C: Martin / Buck
    3B: Pedro
    SS: Mercer / Barmes
    2B: Neil
    1B: Morneau / Sanchez
    Util: Harrison
    LF: Marte
    CF: Cutch
    RF: Byrd
    OF: Jones

That may leave Tabata off if they go 13 players and 12 pitchers. Guess it really will depend on how Marte is doing health-wise and whether you need Tabby to be an option for OF defense/leadoff, etc.

Another option is going with 11 pitchers since you only need 3 starters and 13 position players.

Good things to think about…. pretty much means Lambo/Pie/Snyder/TSanchez are September helpers but that’s about it.

    • OK. We get it – you don’t care for Presley

      • sorry, like putting too much sugar in the iced tea, I should know when to stop and taste. lets go bucs :)

no personal issue with me and presley, he just isn’t to me any different than any of the other RF suspects the bucs have tried, but he seems to get more love than anyone else…. just no idea why.

      • Agreed.

Presley is an ok player, but he really wasnt in the Pirates plans too far into the future.
I understand Morneau wont be here next year, but giving up a player that had multiple opportunities to shine — and didnt — isnt a big deal.

Now, we just need to win some games !!

  8. I’d say its a big game tonight….

    According to Richard Justice (@richardjustice)
    8/31/13, 3:27 PM

In the last 19 seasons, 17 teams leading NL Central on Sept. 1 won the division

  9. I always thought Presley was a good player who would be a perfect 4th outfielder at some point – but probably not more than that. Would be great if they could resign Byrd – 1 or two year deal while they give Polanco a full year at AAA…

A Martel – cutch – Byrd outfield would be awesome defensively.

  10. Can’t keep up with all these threads. Are we ALL IN now? As in … HERE?

    Beat Em Bucs

    Go like 60

  12. Where’s Morneau?

He Doesn’t Want To Be Here.

    Send him back.

  13. Pirates recall Stolmy Pimental and option Jared Hughes to AA Altoona.

  14. Just want to temper some of the expectations for Morneau, only because some here will be hanging him in effigy the first time he ever makes an out with runners on (and we all know who you are, even if you don’t have a clue, yourselves). Morneau’s hot streak may have passed. Even with a HR last night, he is in a 2-for-31 slump over the last ten days. This too, will too. But his BA for the season is .259. So expect a .260-ish or so hitter with occasional pop. Basically, Garrett Jones of last year. Which is better than Garrett Jones of this year. So stop let’s stop the b_tching before it even starts.

(BTW, the mention of a Jones/Morneau platoon is silly and pointless. Jones will now get playing time roughly the same way Clint Barmes does. Our first baseman is Morneau and our right fielder is Byrd.)

    • They still hang people in effigy?

What is there really to bitch about? Its now up to the players, and coaches to get it done.
I am just happy the team is in a better position for September/October.

      • What’s there to bitch about? You know — every time we lose a game, they come out of the wood work: “Oooooh, Collapse III has started!” “Don’t be surprised if we hit 21!” “Neil Walker is a bust!” “Tabby is a dog!” “Clint Hurdle is the worst!” “Nick Leyva is the worst!” “The Pirate Parrot is the worst!” etc., etc.
They’ll be ragging on Morneau the first time he fails to rally us.

        • Hey, pal, leave the Parrot out of this!! ;)

You are right, but I guess I was hoping for better. Silly me, huh?

          • Plan, you don’t dump on players just as soon as they have a bad at-bat, so I definitely was not making a preemptive strike at you. And there’s no crime in “hoping for better.” I know I am. But even if the averages play out, a .260′s-ish bat with not quite 20HR’s will give us more offense than we’ve been getting.

By the way, on mini-column thread, you said, “I thought the 2 words were “Plan Parade.”
What would a “Plan Parade” be? A cavalcade of jolly Hippos?
            I’ll be there!

            • Ghostie you should have made that pre-emptive strike. Sources tell me that the pond is now mined and defended by cannons. Even the rhino is lying low. Hippo has gone all in! Be careful :)

              • “Ghostie you should have made that pre-emptive strike.”
                ?? I don’t get it.

As for Hippo going all Rambo around his pond and everywhere else, yes, it’s true. The gentle, amiable, grass-eating Hippo we all know and love has been on a ‘roid rage or something, recently. Just the other day I saw him sauntering down the street, hitting on random girls, all while grabbing his junk and striking Johnny Bravo poses. Tsk, tsk…

              • Meant you should have made your strike on the pond before he beefed up the defenses….

              • Ahhh… Got it.
How true. Now I’ll have to outdo myself cooking up a way to get into that pond — without getting myself blown to smithereens. I think that’s how this all got started, by the way. Hippo shot me in the butt cheeks and the sight of blood triggered some change in him forever.

              • Just send in the drones

              • By Jove, Mad, that’s it!! Will be calling in the coordinates to the Pond, tonight! Can’t wait (rubs hands together with glee)!!

              • You two are insane!!

But thanks for the laughs. :)

              • Ghost, my Pond is “under the dome”.

                Keep trying……………. :D

            • Oh Ghost, I know you weren’t sniping at me.

              A calvacade of jolly Hippos.
              Perish the thought.

    • It’s not uncommon to see a player switch leagues for the first time and do well because the pitchers don’t know him. Fingers crossed.

    • 2 for 27. Still bad.

      • Right you are. 2 for 27. Anyway, the guy is allowed to cool off and I hope we don’t put to much on his shoulders. Like I said above, if he can just give us what Jonesey gave us last year, it gives us a fighting chance and I’ll be happy.

    • The mention of a Jones/Morneau platoon is silly and pointless because they’re both LHB who struggle vs. LHP… Or at least it appears to me by looking at Morneau’s stats from the last 3 years.

I would not be surprised to see a Morneau/Gaby platoon, with Jones moving to a first PH/spot start against tough RHP in RF.

  15. well hubby scored tickets to the Curve game tonight!! Watched Grilled Cheese pitch the first inning. Looked GOOD! Sitting four rows up from the dugout and Jeff Locke is right in front of us :)

    • Bring home a W.

      Oops, wrong game…………. :)

      • Hey we want a W too!

        • Dont know if you read it yesterday, but
          Happy Anniversary.

          That is all.

          • Thanks friend! :*

          • Plan

Saw your post on the other thread. Doing ok tonight. Had to check out a while to cook dinner. Flat iron steaks with Stubbs Texas Steakhouse marinade. First time I tried it and it was a hit!

I refused to participate on the blog yesterday (other than to wish our girl Jandy the happiest of anniversaries) because I thought the whole ratings debate was inane.

Real excited about the Buccos going forward with the events of this week and very proud of our team going all in. Also excited for the Steelers to start up as I love BOTH teams. It is a great time of year to enjoy both squads and our Pitt Panthers. But tonight, Beat em Bucs. Go like 60!

            • + a whole bunch.

              Flatiron steaks are surprisingly good.
              Next time try this………….

Soak your steaks overnight in a marinate of steak sauce, and seasonings, then grill. YUM!

Look forward to the next 2 months more than ever. :)

    • Jeff is having an earnest conversation with Ricky White the strength coach

    • Jandy, I sat two rows behind home plate at an Erie Seawolves game once. I was surprised how much faster the game was when you are right on the field. Enjoy yourself.

  16. Morneau to wear #66 starting tomorrow.

  17. Want to add that I never believed that Morneau could have been had for simply picking up the remainder of his contract. Most likely, the Twins were holding out for more, and Neal Huntington shrewdly held off until the price dropped to being Alex Presley, a player on the bubble between being a 4th outfielder and a 4A player. That’s about right for a one-month rental in a pennant race.

    • Bromberg pitching. Looking good. Later Loonies!

    • Maybe the Twins were holding out for the Parrot? Or Leyva?

      Just kidding.

    • NH has outdone the other GMs, win or lose

Kudos to him, Kudos to Nutting

Not sold on Kudos to Coonelly, I will never like that guy, will always be Slick Frank

      Got this e-mail today

      Dear Pirates Fan,

Thank you for your continued support of Pirate Baseball. We are looking forward to an exciting postseason run. The payment for your 2013 postseason order has been received and posted to your account.

Any questions, please reach us at

Your postseason tickets will be arriving at the end of September.

      Who’d a thunk it???

      • Just sent mine in today. Very weird feeling.

      • With you, Biz. At some future time, DK will have to go into further detail how FC’s hand was so deftly applied/not applied in this magical year. Too much ill-will has been built up by FC in my book, for him to be so easily let off the hook. To this layman fan, NH’s great work this year speaks for itself. And Bob Nutting has both set a new tone and cut the checks. Whatever it is or isn’t that FC is doing, we can’t see it.

  18. Clint just said on his show that Morneau is in the air and will arrive during the game. I’m psyched!! Good job, BMTIB!! (NEVER thought I would say that!)

And let’s get this out of the way right now——if Morneau does well, that’s great!

If Morneau does poorly, it’s because Bylsma played him on the wrong line!!!!

  19. Question for the field:

Do post season rosters have to be set tonight or tomorrow ?

p.s. Great line on the rotary phones, Playoffs. I had actually forgotten about those. My wife’s grandparents actually had a party phone, a la Andy Griffith, until the early 00′s!

  20. AJ with a quick 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning and we are off. Let’s Go Bucs.

  21. I can’t wait for the day baseball goes to automated strike zone, should easily have been ball 4 with two runners on.

  22. Clint Barmes has been phenomenal the past two days with the glove, big DP to get out of inning.

  23. Pirates flashing some mean leather this weekend

  24. I don’t want to jinx this team but I’m beginning to feel as though they have gotten past the grind of August, have caught their second wind, and are about to get on a good streak….

  25. Marlon Byrd goes LF corner for leadoff double, nicely turned on that Lynn pitch.

  26. AJ with the bat!

  27. Are you kidding me…AJ Burnett rips a single rf side for two out RBI and Buccos take early lead tonight.

  28. AJ helping himself!! Bucs 1-0 on a liner to right.

  29. AJ !!!

    1-0 good guys.

  30. Way to help yourself AJ!!!

  31. AJ tells Lynn to STFD!!!

  32. And Tabby continues to come through,RBI single, 2-0 Buccos!

  33. Tabby with a nice single himself for a 2-0 lead!! More please!!!

  34. Tabby! Nice approach there to go opposite field. Pour it on!

  35. Ta-Baaa-ta!!!!

  36. Nice to see the Bucs do all this damage with two outs and with RISP!

  37. Come on Neil….

  38. Who’d have thought we’d have gotten this kind of leadoff play from Tabby when Marte went down?

  39. AJ with the hustle on the bases.

  40. Come on Cutch….let’s do some damage…

  41. Cutch could blow mthis game wide open !!!!

  42. I usually don’t like when they swing for the fences, but it would be great for Cutch to hit his 100th for a granny!!

  43. The eagle has landed. Morneau’s flight is on the ground.

  44. Wished they could have scratched out a couple more, but will take 2….Lynn at 48 pitches through two, shaping up to be another short night for a Cards starter.

    • Agreed JRay…at the least we get two big 2 out hits and make Lynn work….I will cut Cutch some slack after the August he has had….

  45. I’m just happy that AJB did not get hurt.

  46. Third Eye Blind still exists. Who’d thunk it ?

    • I was a huge fan of How’s it Going to Be and semi-charmed life back in the day. I bet if I looked hard enough I may find that CD around here somewhere.

  47. Need to get the dangerous Matt Carpenter…

  48. 2-1 now and first and third and two out. Come on AJ!

  49. Big K of Holliday to limit the damage, need the bats to keep attacking.

  50. Nice pitch AJ….

  51. PEDRO!!!

    Just missed a HR!
    Woooooooo. ;)

  52. El Toro a double off center field wall to start Bucs half of third.

  53. Pedro! Pedro! Great lead off double. Get that run back now!!

  54. Payyyydroooo

  55. Byed is the word, Pitates answer and get run right back….3-1 good guys! Byrd making early and often contributions.

    • Byrd was a big part of the Rangers pennant drive in 2009…he was a good acquisition….

      • +++….really hope he enjoys his time in Pittsburgh and considers sticking another year to bridge to Polanco.

His veteran presence should help the younger guys like Marte, Tabby etc.

  56. The Byrrrdddd Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. A little Byrdie told me we just scored another run!!! 31- Bucs after the Byrd single up the middle.

  59. There may be no such thing as clutch-hitting, but whatever Byrd is doing is sure fun to anticipate and more fun to watch.

  60. This lineup has a lot better balance to it huh? And this is before inserting Morneau and getting Marte back.

  61. Come on Russell….

  62. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PLAN THE PARADE!!!!!!!!!!

    THANK YOU NEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. A very big bunt!

  64. GOOD BYE – clear the deck Martin blast coming….6-1 Buccos, and the OVER easily wins!

  65. Take that Lynn!!! Three run bomb by Martin! 6-1 Buccos!

  66. MARTIN!!! The place is going to explode!

  67. Something about that CF wall!!!!!!

  68. Light the Gulf Tower Bucco gold!

  69. That was not a G-Rated replay by ROOT. Lynn throwin’ down the F-bomb in frustration.

  70. First time I ever saw a 3 run bunt.

  71. This is un-freaking-believable!!!!! Another romp taking place on the Cardinals. I hope there are a few more runs left in the Bucs tank tomorrow! I need to end this personal 2 game slide, which happen to be the 2 games they lost to the Brewers this week.

  72. The Card fan shots are great!

  73. Hahahaha…. Beltran the loafer misplays ball, horrible defense, 7-1 Buccos as they turn this into a rout.

  74. Trip-trip-triple! Beltran wussed it. He was not all in!

  75. We gottem rattled. Beltran with the Holliday play of the series on that lazy flyball by Walker. Should have been third out, but Thank You!! 7-1 now. Come on Cutch get in the act.

  76. Awww Cutch…

  77. Let’s hope AJ can handle this prosperity…lol.

    • Yeah, now he can relax and toy with these guys. I hope Cutch can relax a bit, too — he has got lots of help now.

  78. Nice try Beltran.

I can’t help but think about all the games at PNC Park I’ve seen against the Cardinals. Lots of their fans there, lots of losses….and LaRussa

  79. McCutchen doesn’t HAVE to hit for the Pirates to score now. We’ll keep a seat on the bus for him across from Mike Tomlin though.

  80. Just awesome to think with the 3 new additions, how the platoons……. defensive substitutions………. PHitters……….. bench depth will improve this club.

Dont forget, Marte, Grilli, and possibly Jaun D. coming back.

    Wooooooooooooooooooo. :D

  81. Cutch is an automatic not a standard. Bad clutch in his ride tonight.

  82. you know…on a “skyblast” fireworks night this late in the season…this would be the only times we USED to see the park filled with people. oh, another sign that the times have changed.

  83. Reds up 2-0…Braves losing 3-1 and Nats losing 8-0….

    • Haren got roughed up by Mets tonight….not looking like the Nats are all that serious of making a run for playoff spot after all.

  84. Cutch is fine, whatever happens tonight. About all that’s left on the wish list for today is for A.J. to go about 7 strong innings, and for Jones to finish on a high note, on this, probably his last day as a regular.

  85. Austin Adams for Akron throwing 95 – 96 – 97 heaters

  86. Tabata just wonged that hitter

  87. Tabata continues to flash leather this series, enjoy watching this version of him.

  88. AJ is feeling it right now…

  89. Anyone else feel like the Byrd trade woke the team up?

Or am I just seeing my own change in hope where I want to?

  90. The Cardinals are playing as if the have the same record as the Cubs or Brewers

  91. Come on AJ.,…

  92. I cannot believe that the Cardinals are playing like little leaders all weekend.

  93. This is bizarro Cards/Pirates. Every bounce, every ball taking off and landing just a little beyond the fielder’s glove… This is the exact opposite of what I’m used to.

  94. This is it Cutch. Come on buddy, break out of it!

  95. Georgia 14 – Clemson 14

Only 28 offensive plays and 11 minutes.

  96. Wghat a great day!! Watched my beloved Aggies beat up on Rice and now my beloved Buccos beat up on more birds…haha…

  97. Thankfully we haven’t needed Cutch to carry the team the last two nights, but it would be nice for him to snap out of this mini-slump.

  98. Cutch looks like he has no confidence at the plate the last two days.

    • I think it is over confidence. Thinks he can and will hit anything thrown to him right now.

    • one thing though: cutch, this season, is NOT the only hitter on this team. he is an mvp for sure, but it is nice to see some other bats coming alive.

  99. Just saw Morneau in the dugout.

Somewhere, Tony LaRussa is punching a wall………..

  100. You all sound like you’re having a great time with this game. Wish I could see it in Ocean City. Go Bucs!

  101. how wierd is this to see the new guy’s arrival in the middle of a game? anyone ever see this before?

    • With the Pirates? No, just departures around this time of the year. We’re in unchartered territory for these last 20 years. (Though Shawon Dunston did show up earlier than required and hit some home runs for us out of the gate back in ’97. Recall the opposing manager jokingly complain that someone should have told Dunston he had 72 hours to report. )

  102. Cutch looks off in the batters box tonight

  103. Nothing against Jones but it would be nice to see what the fans would do if Morneau pitch hit for Jones this inning

  104. I just realized that since I am going tomorrow, I will see the Morneau debut. Awesome!

  105. Pretty dam cool the guy made it in time to be on the club.

    All in

  106. Gaby rips the LH Siegrest for a double, he is now hitting .251. Bics have 6 XBH out of their 13 hits tonight.

  107. 97 yard drive.

    SEC 21 – Clemson 14.

First play of the drive from their own three was a 37 yard burst by the unheralded fullback. So on first and goal, the Dawgs gave it to the FB to dive into the end zone.

    • Death Valley indeed

    • I take it you are a big fan of the

      Cheaters Conference?

And full disclaimer, I root for Pitt.
We will get our doors blown off, but hey.
      Its just football, right?

      • (Coughing)…Aggie fan here…lol

      • Yes. Seven years of cheating.

        Well. Eight now.

        • How has A&M cheated??

        • Actually, that brings up a great point.

Do you remember before Saban was hired that Alabama was almost the second school to be put on the “Death Penalty” for numerous violations? Just sayin its seems to be in their blood down there, thats all.

And, I have a friend who is a HUGE Alabama fan.
          His take on all this?
” I dont care if Saban personally kills all the opposing players and coaches. As long as we win, I dont care.”

          Just sayin.
And, Just giving you a hard time, Drew.
No matter how they do it, 7 straight championships is impressive.

      • Hey Plan I root for Pitt too, they just can’t compete with the economics of SEC football, recent story out has a WR that committed to A&M being offered 300,000 and 600,000 according to his kids father by two SEC schools.

        • JRay, todays SEC is yesterdays SWC.
          Thats not a compliment.

        • I would not be surprised if that story was true….the way heplayed today, I can see why someone would offer him that…lol. A 6’5″, 240 lb receiver with 4.5 speed….

  108. The “wall” inning for AJ…let’s see if he can break it down….

    • Lost in all the offensive fireworks tonight is the shutdown effort AJ has put together. He is going to close August on a bit of a roll, good to see.

      • Absolutely…back to back “ace” type starts this weekend….anything good from Johnson tomorrow is a huge bonus!!

  109. so what does kris johnson bring to the party tomorrow?

  110. The thing I like about Morneau is you know he approved the trade. Though not a 10 and 5 guy, the Twins are a class organization and Morneau was well liked here in the Upper Midwest. You know they would not have sent him somewhere he did not want to go

    • You wonder if Liriano had anything to do with that… :)

    • That and showing up hours after the deal was made… He wants to be there. He wants another run at the playoffs.

      • Very good point.

        • He was all smiles in that dugout too. He definitely wants to be here. I think Neal hit three out of the park from a personality standpoint as well as the on field abilities.

          • +3

          • Great observation. Byrd (and Buck) and now Morneau have to be on cloud nine with the way they’re being embraced by the club and the fans, and by parachuting into this Cinderella pennant race with the Pirates. And the rest of the clubhouse has to feel SO rejuvenated. The Cards must be looking at the Pirates’ dugout and shaking their heads at what they see taking place before their eyes, just across the diamond.

      • That is one big positive

He will get a swing tonight

    • good evening, john. good points. never had a reason to dislike the twins.

      • Evening, TJA! Nice to see you here on evening thread!

      • The Twins got Sano

        Good organization

My Dad was born in Albert Lea, MN

Will always be a Twins fan, had a few brews at the old stadium in 74

        • beautiful state minnesota is. been there on business a few times.

        • They’ve had 2 managers in my adult life. Loyal organization. That stadium is now the Mall of America. There is an amusement park in the middle of the mall where the field once stood. The home plate marker is near the Sponge Bob roller coaster entrance. Also there is the original seat Killebrew hit with the longest homer in the park’s history. It’s hanging on the wall in the exact spot it was in the stadium. You go by it on the log ride! Pretty neat.

Spent a summer in Albert Lea interning.

  111. Dominating performance by AJ tonight…

  112. Largest crowd at PNC tonight, second largest in PNC history, 39,500+

  113. boy, when things are going your way…they really are going your way. nice play walker.

  114. What a diving stop by Walker, the Pirates team defense has put on a display this series.

  115. Great tweet from an old friend.

    Colin Dunlap:
Felt like @ROOTSPORTSPIT should have done all the Morneau handshakes with super slow-mo cam and “Chariots of Fire” theme in background.

Hard to make it through a day without a Chariots reference.

  116. 6 -0 red stockings vs. rockies. yikes. early though in denver…one never knows.

  117. Petey gets out, and so no Morneau until the morn.

  118. They just announced that Hines Ward holds the Georgia record for most passes thrown in one GA bowl game (59) and most passes caught (12) in another.

Too bad he never amounted to much in the NFL.

  119. Both BP’s have really taken control of the game…

  120. getting closer to the first major hurdle of breaking the streak/plus .500!! beat ‘em bucs! have a good night night all.

  121. Fear the 1st place Bones

  122. Behind seven dominant innings from AJ Burnett, and a five run third inning highlighted by Martin’s 3 run HR the Bucs move into sole possession of first place by taking the series from the Cards 7-1 and there was nooooooooooo doubt about it.

With the win the Pirates improve to 79-56, matching their win total from a year ago with a month still to play. The Pirates are now 10-5 this season against the Redbirds. The Bucs close out August with a .500 mark of 14-14 and have now won 7 of their past 12. The Bucs are now 1 game up in the NL Central and 10 games up for a playoff spot.

The Pirates will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon with Kris Johnson most likely making his first pro start and second appearance of the year.

    Let’s Go Bucs!

  124. RAISE IT! First place. And the Cardinals looked lost. Bring out the brooms for tomorrow. WOOOOO HOOOOO

  125. Raise the Jolly Roger,
and whatever else you want to raise.

This team now has the feel of a championship competitor for the rest of the year.
Good job to all. neal, you reading this?

This is going to be fun !!!

  126. The Pirates enter September in first place.

Lets hope the enter October the same.

  127. This just in. Manziel’s a punk.

  128. Still many miles to go before we sleep

Every advance will make us more nervous

You know, this one ride I’m gonna savor

And like Dejan said, in so many words

    About time

    All in

  129. Duke Welker is the PTBNL that Thundercrack’s boy gave up.

  130. ALL IN!! September 1st…alone in first!

    THIS is exciting!

  131. Thundercrack’s boy promotes Gregory Polanco to Indy.

    • Seriously, that makes two steps up for him in one season?

Who is this FO? What happened to the old one?

Thank goodness the old one is gone

      • Indy is going to the playoffs. Some of their players will be promoted up here so they’ll need the players

        • Its a real nice move for Polanco, and a good sign for his progress

Some pitchers will come up too.

If the system is flowering, which it seems to be

          Test em, bring em up

They seem to be taking the gloves off and challenging their talent

          All in

  132. Flowering …and flooded

  133. Great recap of the game…………………………

  134. Gotta play tomorrow

    Today was a sweet day

    See what happens tomorrow

  135. Yippee, to the third power!

  136. Wore my “Raise the Jolly Roger” shirt to a low-A game in Bowling Green, KY tonight. Got a few stares and reads, but no laughs or snide remarks.

    We’ve made great strides.

    • Good to see you here.
I was afraid after Friday’s blogs, we wouldnt see you.

Whenever I go out now, people see my Pirates hat, and actually come up to me , and wish the team well. It is refreshing.

    • I’ve never been a Raise the Jolly Roger fan in the past, but I’m considering getting one of the Jolly Roger flags and putting it out in my front yard.

  137. First game I made it to in the burgh this season. Great game great time. Am I the only one unfortunate enough to listen to that awful band afterwards? Not only is their third eye blind but all their ears are tone deaf!

    Go buccos!!!
